Not a a fair teacher, if your grade comes out to a c-. which is passing, he will drop it down to a D+. He is an evil human being, who likes to see students fail.
listen, this guy got the university's great teaching award. demanding class, but fair.
Tough teacher, but knows his stuff.
Hard class but he is a great teacher. If you go to class you will learn.
He got a good personality but his class is soo hard I studied and studied for his exams and i got a C as my final grade his tests are a joke because they are unbelievably hard i didnt even finish the first exam i ran out of time
Great Teacher, very very smart
Although he knows his stuff, he makes an 001 class as demanding as any of my 200 level classes. Unnecessarily difficult, unless you're a RMI major.
Yes, Dr. Drennan is a demanding professor. No matter if you are a RMI major or not, this class is very useful. I learned more in this 100 level class than any other class at Temple.(and I am about to graduate!)
Hard class, take it seriously, but he isn't evil and he wont screw you. Go to class and work hard, and you wont get a D+ lol.
Tough but fair. RMI program is probably the best within the TU business school
Tough teacher, but I learned so much. Best class at temple I think, you get what you pay for with drennan. If you are a slacker do not take drennan you will not make it.
I once actually answered a question correctly that was graded wrong and when I took it to him he walked away and made a T.A. deal with me. The T.A. told me I lost half credit because I didn't phrase it the way he liked. It was a homework question.
Hated it. It was a Intro class and he tried to teach it like it was everyones major. The test was the worst. Mult. Choice Essay question that were about a page long. I don't think anyone really had a chance to finish the damn test. He sucked.
Exams are very deceptive....Grades extremely hard on HW
Drennan is a demanding professor but if you study, you'll be fine. You'll learn a lot in his classes. If you're a slacker, don't even think about taking him. He's tenured too (as he reminds his students often) so too bad for those who are out for revenge
Dr. Drennan as well as all the other risk teachers are tough, however we are in college to learn. The risk program at Temple is ranked seventh in the nation and it is the highest ranked program at Temple. These are the reasons these classes are so difficu
Boring subject... acts like everyone wants to eat and breathe this stuff. Has a group of "brown nosers" that kiss his butt.
Very Hard. His classese kicked my butt. You end up spending more time on his class and end up doing bad in your other classes. He doesn't realize that we have other classe...and he doesn't care either! Good Luck!
EXTREMELY tough grader, but you learn so much! He teaches everything really well, you just have to put a little extra effort in.
Vera Hard Grader; Teaches at an MBA or PhD level.
This guy is the best teacher at Temple. Thank your lucky stars, or your tea leaves, or your materialist treasures, or assorted other idols if you are fortunate enough to take a class with this man. Oh, and if you do, make sure to try hard. Children in China don't have your opportunities!!
he is SCARY as hell - as a person and as a teacher! hate him!
he is a great teacher and leader. he brings opportunities to hard-working students. he is diligent himself, e.g. he writes notes by hand on the projector. its a lot of work. his notes is very well structured and informational. he might be a little biased, but it doesn't affects too much his value.
HARD AS HELL. puts way too much detailed material on tests
Class material is not difficult (a lot of notes), however the exams are difficult. Multiple choice is extremely challenging. A lot of work, but if you talk to the teacher about concerns he is nice and helpful.
Yes there are a lot of notes, but i took it in the summer time, so six weeks for the same amount of material as a regular semester would be alot. All in all I thought the class was pretty ok. one of the better teachers i've had at temple. As long as you do what needs to be done you should get a good grade.
Smart professor who teaches very well, dedicated in enhancing the reputation of the department. Could be very biased, tends to label students, like most of the leaders he definitely loves ass kissers and people who dress nicely and always brag about materialistic stuff. Be a little profound, professor!! You are disappointing me by being superficial
hard as hell...and ****y
Yes he is "hard" if you dont do the readings and review you notes constantly. But if you do what he says and READ and STUDY you will be fine. He takes things serious, but aren't we supposed to? This is our future.
You will learn a lot if you take Drennan. He is amazing... as a person and a professor (theres a reason why hes in charge of the dept). Very professional, very helpful, entertaining. Just be sure you actually put effort in. Most people bombed the first exam and homework. Just study a lot AND YOUR NOTES ARE EVERYTHING... DO NOT MISS CLASS!
Unless you have a hard-on for Risk Management, avoid this professor at all costs. You'll have: 5-6 pgs of notes daily assigned seats w/ attendance taken(classes of 90+ people) HW and exams NOT graded in a timely fasion (which is also graded by incompetent TA's)
stay away!! terrible class, terrible! Not everyone in this world wants to be in risk management..try telling that to Dictator Drennan
He's a great teacher. You will study very hard to pass this class, but if you're already an RMI major, you should be expecting this kind of work anyway.
By far the most challenging class ever! But Drennan is the RMI GOD!
Drennan is one of the best professors in the whole school. If you dont do well in this class its because you didnt work hard enough. He pushes you and the tests are not easy at all, but because of him i want to double major in RMI now
Drennan spends more time on school and students than any other teacher i've encountered. He is tough, he knows he's tough, and he gets a sort of pride out of being tough. That being said, his class is straightforward and anyone can do well if they study. The group project is pretty intense.
RUN!!! dont take... does not prepare u for tests at all. if u want to hurt your gpa take him other wise take another teacher.
Great teacher, His homework is very hard and a small mistake will cost you dearly, but he is fair. His tests are not that hard, just take notes and do his mathematical exercises. I got a B+ in his class, and I didn't really study that hard.
Great teacher:)
He is a hard teacher. He takes a lot of points of Hw for little mistakes. Do good in the HW and the class will be easier. You will need to study for the test to pass. Also, he gives endless notes and teaches until the last second of the class. You never leave early
CLASS IS TOO HARD
Very tough teacher. The concepts in the course aren't that hard to comprehend but he's very strict. Small mistakes WILL cost you. He's not a bad teacher. Take him if you want a challenge.
Dr. Drennan takes pride in his department. He is the most dedicated, helpful professors I've ever had. While he teaches tough material and is a busy man, his program (including Gamma) prepares students for the working world in a way that the business school core could never hope to.
I wish Temple would offer more classes like that. I agree it is a challenging class. I learned a lot and now I can understand any articles in regard to Employee benefits. Even though I am not pursuing this track, I liked this class a lot. People saying that this class is hard did not study systematically or did not understand concepts in depth.
BOOOOO!!!!!
Act Sci majors please don't take it for fun. The materials are too much and the essays are hard because there are no answers that Dr. Drennan will give. You will definitely spend a lot of time in preparing his exams but probably won't get scores for efforts.
Professor Drennan is the best teacher I ever had, even though I'm an acturial sci maj. He makes you work, but when ur finished, u will master the material enough to teach it. Love u Dr. Drennan.
Professor Drennan is an excellent teacher, even more so if you are interested in employee benefits. Gives quizzes roughly once a week and his tests cover a lot of material, but nothing covered is all that dfficult to master.
The man is scary but he cares about learning therefore makes everything hard to challenge students I guess... If you want to be challenged take him, however if you are someone like me who is only taking the class to meet core requirements and have not special interest in Risk save yourself the trauma and take someone else
wordless to this professor... just stay away if u r not a RMI major...
he's the kind of professors that loves to see student fail... don't take him if u don't want to fail !!
PLEASE stay away from this EVIL man!!!He doesnt know how to teach at all!!His Exams and Assignments are tought!! And he sometimes doesnt check the homework..while u had spent the whole night on doing it!!!!!!!!! :(..overall~~NOT GOOD!!!SCARY!!!
He is a hard teacher, but this should not scare you. YOU MUST ATTEND CLASS! His test are based strictly from his lecture notes. You must go to every class and arrive in time. He can come off a bit harsh but he is a good teacher. Homeworks are time consuming but not that difficult. Keep up with readings but this is not as important as going to class
Challenging course, but easy if you show up to class and take good notes. He hand writes all his notes and hates power point. He's very strict about attendance, but offers 20 bonus points if you only miss 2 classes.
Oh God!! Please do not take this professor because you will regret it! YOU MUST ATTEND EVERY CLASSS.. His exams are difficult, and he does like a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i.. he's insane and his homeworks are long.. You'll be up for hours trying to figure out the problems.. And once you hand the homework in, you'll pray that you did it the right way!!
not for the lazy. go to every class. note taking is key..even what he doesnt write down is important. join gamma. go to every meeting. read over your notes every night. you'll be miserable and regret taking him but you'll apprecieate it later. good luck.
There's no question Drennan is a very hard. If you're only taking the class to meet the core requirement, Drennan is not for you. However, if this is the field you'd like to pursue, TRUST me he's making it easy for you to enter the real world.
Dr.Drennan is the man, his class is very difficult but risk management wasnt made to be easy. You must read every single page assigned in the text book and study for about a week prior to the exam and then you will be okay...as for the paper assigned, bring your sleeping bag to the tech center! great professor and cares about his students.
Good but hard
Hmm what to say...Drennan is a very challenging teacher, and probably one of the best teachers I've ever had. He will challenge you constantly, the course will not be easy. Show up to class every day, and study the hell out of his notes and you'll do fine. Read the articles, and keep up on the material.
Not for slackers. Drennan will make you work hard for your grade, but you will learn A TON. Overall a great prof; there should be more that care about their students' success so much.
HARD! but fair. You don't really need to read the book except for what he specifically tells you to do. Know your notes backward and forward, and go to his office hours. He really cares about the students, and it is fun seeing him at Gamma events outside of class.
Drennan is the best professor I have had in my college career. His class is challenging, but you will learn a ton. Study a little bit everyday. Do not cram, you will fail. Do the assignments and come to every class awake and alert. His lectures and your notes are key to your success. Highly recommend for RMI majors.
HE PURPOSLY TRIES TO MAKE THE CLASS HARD. HIS HOMEWORKS ARE CONFUSING; HE'S NOT HELPFUL AND EXTREMELY RUDE AND IGNORANT. HE GIVES POP UP QUIZES; I WOULDN'T SUGGEST HIM TO MY WORST ENEMY. I HONESTLY THINK HE GETS A THRILL OUT OF SEEING STUDENTS FAIL. DON'T TAKE HIM.
Rediculousy and unnecessarily difficult. If you sit beyond row 2, please get a magazine or your ipod to pass your time cuz you won't be able to understand a syllable. Pop quizzes are fine cuz he is quite lenient on those but the exams are insane. Take him and curse yourself for the entire semester.
One of the best teachers Temple has to offer. Expect to work hard in any of his classes, or you will fail. Attendence is a must, you get extra points for missing less than 4 classes. Tests are based on class notes, if you miss a day, make sure you have a friend take notes. You really don't need to read book, but for god's sake, read articles.
The best professor the business school has to offer, very dedicated to the students who put forth the effort necessary to be an RMI major. If you don't have the time or the dedication to your school work do not to attempt to take him because you will fail miserably and blame it on Drennan because he tried to test you
He was pretty good for in my intro class, but if you take his upper level class and have very little interest in employee benefits then good luck. His class stressed me to the point where I did not even want to go to school anymore. It seems his primarily goal is to prep you for a professional world, but he makes your life miserable in the process.
I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE ARE PRAISING THIS GUY, HE IS THE WORST TEACHER AT TEMPLE. VERY RUDE NASTY, AND HIS HOMEWORKS AND TEST DO NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. IF YOU WANT TO FAIL RISK MANAGEMENT TAKE HIM. BUT IF YOU WANT TO PASS TAKE SOMEONE ELSE TRUST ME!
He loves EE benefits and this comes across in his teaching. HARD,challenging but chooses favs. Writing w/ Rob is tough but so are all RMI courses
he is the worest teacher i ever had, i hate the way he grade the homework, even thought you know the answer, but if you write down the steps, he will mark you wrong beause he doesn't want the step? rediculous,he didn't menetion it at all. most students are unhappy with his class and the grade received from him, the lowest grade a student get is 24!
Hard teacher, but gives you every opportunity to pass his class and gives very clear and concise. you either love him or hate him.
Not only he makes you look up and write the down the notes, but at the same time you have to understand what he saying. He also don't post notes on the Blackboard, or nor does he review the previous tests in the class. I don't recommend him: no syllabus available. Plus, you have to wait for him to tell you what happens. His handwriting is terrible!
Best teacher Temple has to offer. Yes he challenges you and some don't like that, but that's what real life is about. He's a no nonsense kind of guy and really nice once you get to know him.
I do not understand why SO many people like him so much! He is really TOUGH (the toughest teacher I have ever had). I am a good student though. He grades very tough and he is not generous at all. He is challenging though and really passionate in what he is doing. The good thing is that when you get an A = u REALLY deserve it. He does not curve
The worse professor in Temple ever Cause he is so hard to communicate also hard to pass his class...Not resonable at all... Looks down on you and make you feel stupid..and so proud of it too.. hated his class...he makes u dont wanna take rmi...
this teacher is the WORST!! If you have him DROP him right away! Very hard and doesn't explain how he grades. He picks what he wants to be right and wrong. Makes you feel stupid when you ask him questions.
Yes he is a tough professor. However the class is not impossible. If you take the notes exactly how he writes them and have excellent attendance then you will do well in the class. Also homework does take a lot of time so do NOT wait until 20 minutes before class to do it. I recommend him!
Fellow students, you have to use all your senses effectively to score in this class. He explains very well, so LISTEN to his every word. What he teaches is what he asks in exams. At the end of the semester, you will learn a lot about risk management and insurance.
HE IS BY FAR THE WORST PROFESSOR AT TEMPLE. HE MAKES THE CLASS FEEL LIKE AN GRADUATE CLASS FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT RISK MANAGEMENT MAJORS. HE THINKS BY MAKING THE CLASS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT WILL MAKE STUDENTS LEARN, WE'LL THAT'S THE OPPOSITE. MAKING THE CLASS UNDERSTANDABLE IS WHAT MAKES STUDENTS LEARN. TERRIBLE TEACHING STYLE, NO SUPPORT WITH HOME
by far the best prof i've had at temple, anyone who says he is hard or a bad teacher is crazy, you probably didnt try at all in this class, i loved it
I've never met a professor in my life who seemed to get enjoyment out of failing students.
It's evident that the Risk Management Department at Temple has the worst group of professors. Dr. Drennan who runs the department is the worst of the bunch. Most of the material covered in class is not complicated, so to make the students feel as though we're learning something he applies these ridicules norms for the class to follow. Don't take!
Don't be fooled by the other posts on this site. If you go to class every day and actually pay attention you should not have a problem in his class. The material may be a little hard but he explains it fully and will clear up any questions you might have. Also, he's not all business; he will joke around and lighten up periodically.
He is a great teacher but the class isnt a joke-He has no prob failing anyone n doesnt take crap. If u want an A u will have to work for it but that doesnt mean it is impossible. The class is hard but u get what u put into it. The program is one of the best in the US if not the best now n one of the reasons is because of him. The class is not easy
Wow... it doesn't get any worse than this. Run from this class. Run so far, run so hard.
His class requires hard work, but it's very rewarding. I can't remember the last time I walked away from a class having learned so much about something I initially knew zero about. If you pay attention and read assignments, there's no reason to not get B's and A's on his exams. His grading policy is pretty fair, too.
One of the hardest classes ever.
The hardest part about this class is just attending every single one. Other than that Drennan gives you everything you need to know for the exams. All of the exam questions just come directly from the notes and if you know them, you'll do fine. I came away from this class learning a lot about a subject I previously knew nothing about.
Probably the best teacher I've ever had. Its a lot of work compared to other teachers (1.5 hours of work a week) but gives you everything you need in class. He makes the class interesting too.
Everyone who hates on this class, are all the Temple Students who are the reason why temple's business school is rated so low. If it wasn't for the risk department, fox business school wouldn't be ranked. This class is easy if you study. I read over notes twice for each exam and got B+s on exams.
Drennan is not the most friendly professor and can be outright mean at times. However he may be the best teacher I ever had at Temple. His expectations are very high therefore students are pushed to work harder. This pays off for people looking for careers in risk. Stay on top of the notes/articles to pass quizzes
to get an "A" a reasonably intelligent person has to do a reasonable amount of work. a lazy dummy is prolly gonna fail. oh, and drennan is politically conservative which means he isn't a dummy like the rest of the temple faculty.
The reviews cover it pretty accurately. He is strict, he demands a lot but gives you the tools to succeed. He will joke around a bit but rest assured, the class comes first and the work is required. Cram and fail, that simple. Take notes, pay attention, and trust yourself. The multiple choices are the hardest part of the exams, which are analytical
Dr. Drennan is an excellent professor. You will have to do A LOT of work, but you will learn much about risk management. His test are long, and his hwks are mostly long essays. Also, he's politically conservative so if you are looking for a break from liberal professors, his class is rather refreshing. If you have any questions about the hw,ASK!
Dr. Drennan is one of the best (if not the best) professors at Temple. He is clearly one of the reasons that Temple has the best Risk Management undergrad programs in the nation and is one of the best in the world. He WILL make you work, but he will also make you learn. Any time you don't understand a concept, he will help you until you learn it
Dr. Drennan is a great professor. He is clearly one of the best professors in the entire university. Dr. Drennan is one of the only positive things Temple is currently offering to its students. If they hired more professors like Dr. Drennan in other departments, Temple might be known for something other than RMI and being in the ghetto.
GOOD LUCK! THIS GUY SUCKS!
I would avoid taking this guy for Risk Management!
Ill be very blunt - he pushes you, and he is not always kind about it. However, if you show him respect, he will respect you and will be willing to help you. He does everything he can to teach you RMI. YOU WILL LEARN ALOT, CONSIDERING THIS IS AN INTRO CLASS!
Ok, this class is not easy, but Dr. Drennan is DEFINITELY one of the best professors at Temple. Yes, he is strict. Yes,he can be a jerk. But, out of all the subject I only took one class in, I know the most about Risk Management, thanks to Drennan
FIRST THING IS FIRST! IF YOU ARE A LAZY PERSON WHO CAN CARE LESS ABOUT THE AMOUNT YOU SPEND ON TUITION, DONT TAKE DRENNAN. However, I honestly recommend taking him for the intro course. I promise you will learn more in this course than ever before. But most importantly, you learn worth ethic and discipline. Because of him, I am a Risk major.
He is a hard teacher but only because he cares so much about the success of his students. He dedicates so much of his time to helping his students get on track to be the best they can be. HE does out of his way to help you to succeed. He is a hard teacher, but he really prepares you for the real world and treats you like you work for him.
cranky prof with cranky TA's
He is a cool dude on a personal level but as your professor very hard. I never worked so hard for a class in my life. Learned allot about RMI and business, love his teaching style but hate how he makes his test so tricky. You really need to study to get an A in his class. I suggest taking him in the summer and with no other classes.
He is a good teacher, but very cold shoulderish when you meet with him during his office hours. He makes the notes very simple and to the point, but his exams are in very much detail so make sure you understand the concepts very well. I had to work very hard in this class just to get a B+. He has many little quizzes. Reading the articles is not nec
Drennan's class was incredibly difficult due to the amount of material we had to read. The articles consisted of usually at least 6 pages and we had to read at least 25 a week, so it was a lot to remember and pinpoint one sentence that would be on a quiz. He was very nice however, and I learned a lot. Be prepared to study.
Great teacher. Does not use powerpoint. Writes down notes in an outline style making it extremely easy to follow though you will write a lot.He is demanding as his Tests and Quizzes are extremely detailed. Quizzes are prolly harder than tests cuz they are only a few questions. Be prepared to STUDY HARD and you will be fine.
The class in general is hard no matter who you take it with, but take Drennan. He is the best professor in the department. He doesn't use power points and writes the notes out in a way that is easy to understand. The exams are pretty difficult because he has up to "g" options on multiple choice. But take Drennan.
This may be the hardest class I have taken and taking it in a summer course I am sure made it more intense. If you want an A in this class all you have to do is write every single thing he writes and study it over and over also review class clapture for the classes that it is available. Also be sure to put full effort into the homework assignments
Great Class! course I took was into. His lectures are very fluid & work on an outline basis. Very useful for organizing necessary study topics. Felt he did not go into enough detail and left that up to the student to read the book. Very easy professor!! everything discussed is on the test so no suprises! Makes risk mgmt fun!
The RMI2101 is going to make you excrete blood sweat and tears. It is incredibly difficult no matter who you take it with but if you want to get the most out of this course take Drennan. He is extremely strict but he cares for you. He WILL make sure you understand the materials back and forth. Take Drennan!
he is so hard in his grating and so tricky in his exams and quises. he doent give u enough time, abt 2 mn to answer a question that take abt 5 to prossess. not an easy class he made me changed my mind abt being a risk major. dont take him try someone else.
Dr. Drennan is extremely intelligent and wants his students to do well. However, he will not hold your hand, especially in this class. It is a lot of material and the project/exams is/are difficult. He makes himself available for any assistance. Expect to work very hard in this class.
MEMORIZE THE NOTES HE GIVES YOU IN CLASS!!! Read the articles and study every day. This is how you get an A in any Temple RMI class. Tests are 50 VERY hard MC questions and you only get 50 minutes to answer. So know the material and MEMORIZE the NOTES!!!
This class is hard. Drennan is a great professor, maybe the best I've had at Temple so far. You need to have a very thorough understanding of the material to do well in the class. 50 questions in 50 minutes, but it is easy if you have memorized all of the notes. Lecture/notes directly relates to tests.
Dr. Drennan is the best professor I've had at temple thus far... the people who complain that he is too hard have no concept of hard work. Study your notes over and over and over again and read the articles... this class is about understanding... I got an A with a lot of work, but i enjoyed what I was learning.
Best professor at Temple. The class is hard but if you study an A is very possible. I'm a 3.0 student and managed an A. It is possible. Guy is a phenomenal teacher and I consider myself lucky to have had him.
Prof Drennan is amazing!! This class was interesting and Prof Drennan is more than happy to help students with whatever they need! 10 Thumbs up!
One of the best teacher at Temple. very clear, organized and knowledgeable. All you have to do is to pay attention in class, read your assigned notes (even once) prior to the quiz, and prepare for the exam. that's it. nothing unnatural. He also gives a very explicit study guide.
Absolutely a hard but great professor. Lots of reading work to do. When I was in the boot camp last semester, I dont know what weekend is.
Loved taking his class. It was a hard class but I think he made it enjoyable. Take good notes and study them hard! It was easy at first so I started slacking off but regretted it immediately!
He is an excellent teacher! But this is a tough course. You have to work you're butt off. Take good notes and read a lot of articles. There is no textbook. I learned a lot about risk and even considered switching majors. His TAs on the other hand are kinda crazzy!
Drennan is a good teacher, but the course was hard. I liked the way he taught the material, there's no power points so you have to come to class and take notes to do well. The quizzes were the hardest for me. He has a lot of TAs though just to catch people texting, which made me feel like i was in jail during class. Good professor though.
Learned more in this class than any other class at Temple
Great teacher, he knows alot about this subject. However, very hard and has 8 TAs to make sure your not sleeping or on ur phone. Definitely would recommend taking him. Be ready for the hardest semester of your life though.
This class was soooo hard! He grades the exam extremely tough. He gives you a lot of information so you have to figure out what is actually important enough to study. He gave us study guides only a few days before the exam which made them really useless. If you slack off even a little you will fall so far behind.
Knowledgable guy, but man this class was hard. He'll trip you up on the exams and ask a question that has literally 7 multiple answers to choose from. And if you take him in the fall, he'll assign a group project right during Thanksgiving week and expects you to find an employer who's willing to work with you on such short notice. Horrible.
a. three rough exams b. 20 LONG articles a week c. nine tedious quizzes d. one 10+ page project e. one exhausting course f. you'll learn a lot g. a or b h. c or d i. all of the above Answer is I. Like the intro of Goosebumps, "Beware, you're in for a scare!"
Dr. Drennan is honestly an amazing professor, he expects his students to do A level work though. Like he says, you have to understand the material not memorize it. Risk as a subject is incredibly difficult itself, but I wouldn't want anyone except Drennan as a professor for it, he really is the man with this stuff. One of the best profs at temple.
His class is like hell!!! dont take him!
RMI 2101 is not as hard as people say it is. Dr. Drennan is the best teacher i've had at Temple so far. The key to doing well in his class is taking good notes and understanding the material he goes over in class. If you can do that, the hw, quizzes, and tests should be easy.
Drennan is honestly the man. The class is tough, but as long as you STUDY you should not have a problem. He doesn't curve anything, but throughout the course there are 46 extra points available. I enjoyed RMI 2101
Does not have a heart. Thinks every student is the same and all should do well on his exams but they are really hard & for those who do not test well stay away, your just a body in his classroom, his slaves do everything for him (ta's) he just stands up there and talks. Heard there are better professors at temple!
Dr. Drennan is the best professor! He is always there for his students, he is available when ever you need him. Plus, he is an amazing teacher! Best teacher I've ever had! He makes RMI the most interesting and easy to understand material!
People on here can be ridiculous. Drennan is a remarkable teacher. He's tough on his students and challenges them, which works inversely with students who seek easy As. His job is to get you to understand the material, and there is no easier way to understand this material than having a clear, well-spoken professor like Dr. Drennan.
You need to separate his work outside the class(Gamma),which is great. He cares so much but is just boring and has no touch on the real world. Most I learned wasn't relevant to my benefits internship. I didn't gel with his teaching style as much as McCloskey. Who is more dynamic. I think 02 is by far the better boot camp class and I choose benefits
Risk Management is one of the harder Fox classes at Temple so you aren't going to find an "easy" class. Dr. Drennan is the best teacher for this class. He's so knowledgeable even though the material is tough, fun to listen to some stories too. Attendance is necessary if you want to pass, let alone for a good grade. One of my favorite teachers at TU
He knows his stuff. Just boring to me. The lesser of the two boot camp classes in my opinion. He also does not like seeing you in office hours - delegates it all to his TA. Seems like a nice guy though
His class is extremely difficult. If you need extra attention in class to help you understand material I would not take him especially because you are just another body in his class. His homework's are tedious and he is a difficult grader. His tests are very hard and I barely completed them in the time I was given. I have to retake this course.
Very hard class, but he makes sure his students learn and pay attention. Amazingly, you actually learn in his class. Do the homeworks with people and you'll do fine. He is one of the best teachers I've ever had, I would strongly recommend anyone who has to take Risk take Drennan.
EXTREMELY HARD class, you think you understand the information but the tests are so tricky that it makes you feel as if you know nothing. he himself seems like a great person but the class is insane. study the material daily
Drennan is brilliant. Took him for intro and actually LEARNED SOMETHING. The man restored my faith completely in getting an education at Temple. I even changed my major! Listen - study a couple nights before the tests and don't mothball the homework. You'll be fine. He is not a bad guy, he wants you to do well.
extremely hard. make sure you thoroughly understand the material because exams are more conceptual than straightforward. Multiple choice master. he is extremely knowledgeable and you could learn a lot, just have to put in effort. Exams are directly from the notes, barely read the articles or textbook and got an A-.
It isn't that hard from a difficulty perspective - but more like hard cause it is so boring. The material, articles, and him - just too much volume and not interesting - at all!!. Who in their right mind would want to do benefits?
He will teach you about risk management, it's just that he doesn't care that you have other classes to worry about as well. The homework is super detailed and specific and not only does he lecture in class, but he makes you watch online lectures too. He said he wants to make sure we're "not just memorizing facts but understanding them."
Constantly says condescending things about being a RMI major (i.e. "you shouldn't be in this major if you don't attend this meeting"), good teacher though I've learned a lot from him
Terrible class. One of the worst professors I've ever had.
His lectures are you basically copying off his notes as he writes and explains them. LOTS of notes. Homeworks have very strict guidelines and are worth a good chunk. Tests are very tough, feel like an SAT. Otherwise he teaches very well and he's all business. Lectures can drag on though and get very boring. Lots of promoting for his major.
Almost half the class failed the test. Group project is insane.
The reviews from other 3501 students are hilarious. They obviously did NOT study. Drennan is a brilliant professor, one of the best I have had at Temple. Interesting, contemporary topics are discussed in lecture ACA and have reassured my decision as a risk major. Do not study your notes but comprehend them. Articles are posted to HELP. Take him.
smug, can't teach, and extremely boring
This is intended for people about to take 3501. I did very well and am not a 4.0 student. When he posts the class captures watch every single one before the test. Don't just listen, pause it and understand it deeply. Start studying at least 4 days prior to test. I had to study about 25 hours for each exam(3), if you cant handle that dont register.
Terrible class. The worst professor of Temple.
He's very hard, but lectures are of the highest quality and Fox's reputation owes much to his Risk program. While I'm not a Risk major, most Finance majors even admit we'd be better off if he took over our department and managed it like he does the Risk and ActSci programs.
It is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken in my life. I've gone to Drennan several times and he is hardly available to provide the help I needed. I was always told to see his TA's. His tests are extremely hard if you don't prepare for them properly and even then your grade is let up to chance. Do your best to avoid taking his class.
Awesome Professor. Awesome Class. Study exactly how he tells you to and you'll not only pass but you'll learn some important topics.. Best teacher ive had at Temple so far
He is a Great teacher. those who complain came to just skate through it. i knew it was a ruff class and knew i was gonna do some work. i laugh at the wimps complaining saying it was so hard. get it together and learn something. he has great real world examples and tells you exactly what needs to be done in order to understand the material.
Great professor. Does class sometimes turn into a Gamma commercial? Sure, but you won't get a better introductory education on employee benefits. It would be nice if he made his notes clearer and more accessible with powerpoints, but if you take good notes, you will get a ton of great information. Make sure you get a good partner for the paper!
His class isn't impossible but it's not far from it either. Very clear & experienced, with a good amount of humor. However if you don't fully understand Risk the class is going to be hell. Very conceptual style exams. Great professor but extremely difficult.
This is probably the most educational class I've ever taken. You will learn a ton about how insurance works but it is hard. The key to doing well in this class is taking the homeworks extremely seriously. If you get very good grades on all of the homeworks and ALWAYS show up to class you will get a B.
He's an extremely hard grader. If you need help with something you won't get it from him. You'll have to email or visit one of his many teaching assistants. His lectures are pretty good but even if you show up to class and take notes (if Risk isn't your major) you'll probably still need outside help.
Considering all RMI classes are hard, he's strict but not jerky. He's not very accessible but his TAs are. Grading is very particular. Quizzes are hard, a lot of articles to read. Exams are even harder, but you will get better with time and effort. A lot of critical thinking and studying, but you will learn a great deal and not just memorizing.
Expect a plethora of long articles to read on a short notice. I recommend taking notes on all the articles to prepare for his quizzes and exams. Also, be aware that the articles will contradict each other, so study key details. Most of the exam are from the thousand articles he post so I don't skip them. His exams are tough so study very hard.
really nice professor. go to EVERY class and finish hws.
Rob was one of the best teachers I have had at Fox. He makes it impossible not to learn the material. Lots of notes, but they are directly from the book. Very demanding, but if you go to every class, study, and do all your homework it is close to impossible to fail. 20 points extra credit for going to every class.
it was a fun class and make you learn a lot of stuff about risk. make sure you read all the articles he post and think while you doing the homework.
This is a tough and rigerous class but should not be avoided because it seems hard. Drennan expects everyone to get an A and he will tell you exactly how to do it. If you show up for class, take good notes, read over those notes the next day, and do homework you will have no problem with achieving a good grade.
Drennan is definitely an intimidating guy, there just isn't a way around it. His lectures are long, but personally I found them interesting. He incorporates good stories and funny jokes about drinking and spending money on cowboys games. All in all the class was hard, but the grade I got felt well deserved.
Prof. Drennan is very knowledgeable about his teaching classes. Do not expect him to answer all your questions (in and out of class). I really enjoy his topics and class lectures. But it disappointing me his carelessness of helping students. He also does not respond to emails when you have a question abut a homework, quiz or exam.
Dr. Drennan is easily one of the best and is the most dedicated teachers I have ever met. His class is definitely not easy, but the guy will not let you leave his class without gaining knowledge on the subject, whether you fail or pass. Tests are very hard, so study up!
Dr. Drennan is probably the smartest professor at Fox. He knows you have the aptitude to succeed and expects you to do great work. I learned more in this one class than I did in all lower level fox classes combined. Homework is easy if you take good notes, tests are hard but are doable if you study. Also, DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE DURING CLASS.
Great guy, really explains subject well, read articles and youll be fine. quizes are multiple choice. tests are similar to quizzes but also have a few short answer questions. Highly recommend for intro.
Dr. Drennan has become my favorite professor at Temple. A lot of people talk him down and say don't take him for intro to Risk but I have nothing but great things to say about him. HE IS NOT THAT HARD. His teaching style is the best at Temple, read the textbook, do the homework. I am a Finance student with a 3.2 and I will be getting an A-
No doubt the best professor I've had at Temple. He expects a lot from his students, but tells you exactly how to get an A. Go to class, take good notes, and make sure you read the articles. if your an RMI major, you should enjoy doing those things anyways. His lectures are entertaining and he always has funny stories to tell. Great guy and prof.
He does not help his students. He does not respect students, he calls students stupid and expects them to read 50 articles by next class so he can test you on them. He expects professional emails but will reply with no grammar and punctuation. Worst professor at Temple University. Highly recommended you take someone else.
Laughing at the 2101 kids complaining about how intro to risk is hard, just IMAGINE having him for an upper level risk course! In 3501 you need to dedicate at least 6 hours a week to studying, readying articles, and outlining. Rewatch class capture as much as you can. Quizzes are extremely tricky.
Don't take. He's the chair of the department so his expectations are unreasonable. He makes an already hard topic even more challenging. His lectures are boring and he just takes notes without really explaining topics. His tests are hard and he grades them incredibly harsh without any chance to talk to him about getting any points back. AVOID
Most ignorant professor I have ever had in my life. The only students who like him are the ones who are risk majors and enjoy the content. He is arrogant, belittling, opinionated, and unapproachable. I got 5 points subtracted from my grade for being 30 seconds late to class and he wouldn't even hear why. I would not take him again if i was paid.
Dr. Drennan expects a great deal from his students, as most major-specific professors should. The class requires a lot of article reading. Drennan may be difficult sometimes and very particular, but it is because he wants you to succeed, and if you listen to what he says, you will succeed. Personally I think he is pretty funny sometimes too.
you will get nothing before the 3 heavy exams. When you wanna check the mistakes of your answer sheet, "Okay, just 5 mins, otherwise give you zero!" Also, another interesting thing. When u just finished the final text, you will get the poor grade in 3 hrs. However, if u wanna talk about the grade with him. sry, he already leaved the school
I just finish the course this semester, after the final exam. anyone i knew has already got a F. Everbody know that the final exam of this course is everything, no matter you have the great attendance, the high point for homework or quizzes, great participation in class, you still have the great chance to fail this course.
DO NOT REGISTER HIS CLASS!!! LISTEN TO ME!! he will teach u nothing, except making u in trouble
international students have to avoid his class, ugly handwriting, speak quickly and in a low voice, heavy readings. you just look and listen his ugly handwriting during the class. if you want check some strange words by ur phone or laptop, 10 tutors will let u out
Great teacher. Great and necessary material for anyone who plans to ever have insurance or handle risk in their lives. If you listen to what he tells you to do, you will do well. Not a hard class, but one where effort is required. It's the way a college class should be, one of the most rewarding classes I've taken at Temple.
Drennan was one of the most eye opening professors I've had at Temple so far. Don't stray away from taking him because you heard he was hard. Newsflash, we're in college and upper level classes should be hard. Very easy to achieve a good grade if you do everything he tells you to do. Very straightforward and interesting topics to learn.
He likes things done a very particular way- it can be a shock at first. However, he is very clear on what you need to do to get an A and will give you multiple chances for extra credit. You will want to re-watch every lecture on class capture and you don't necessarily need to read the textbook. Lots of work but his tests are fair if you study.
Prof. Drennan expected all of his students to be an A student, follow his instructions, review and understand your notes, and read your book carefully, then it is not difficult for you to get an A.
Drennan is amazing, no doubt about it. Tests are pretty insane (3501) so know the material intuitively, don't just study definitions. The group project screws a lot of people, so find a company in advance because he gives about 3 seconds of the semesters to do an 8 page paper. Welcome to Bootcamp.
Drennan is one of the best professors at Temple. He treats everybody in a strict, and professional way which can come as a shock at first, but he teaches you discipline and how to succeed. I got an A in the class, and what a lot of people fail to realize is that you have to work hard in the class to succeed.
I just finished this course in the summer and I failed. It is horrible! He is very tough. You will have no chance to get a good grade if you are not doing well in just one of the exams. His poor handwriting will get you in trouble.
Tedious hw; be ready to debate with TAs for points, because you'll want all you can get. Drenann's a good lecturer and very interesting. Review class capture because everything he writes down is on the test & hw. Tests are too long for the time allotted. Textbook defines some things more clearly. I'll probably have an A- for the semester.
One of my favorite professors at Temple. Read all the articles and you'll do well on the quizzes. Make flashcards from your notes for the exams and you'll do well. Sit in the first row right in front of him.
Drennan can definitely teach, and he KNOWS what he is talking about. However, he wants 6hrs /week of work. Weekly its: read 2 articles, write a 2 pg paper on it IN HIS FORMATTING. If you don't have IRONCLAD prove that your answers are right you'll get penalized significantly. NO SET DATE FOR EXAMS. If you 1 minute late you are counted as skipping
All assignments must be given physically to him, and electronically. There is NO curve, and less than 3 students get his 30 points of extra credit per semester. He recommends studying 6hrs/ week, and you will need it.
This professor is strict for every student that take his course. U need to focus during his class and don't play electronic devices because he will kick u out. The quiz and exam are harder than I thought. Don't skip the class, attendance is important (20 credit). keep reviewing ur note (his handwriting is hard to recognize). Good luck
I thought this lad was Christopher Walken
ONE OF MY FAVIROTE PROFESSORS at Temple University!!!! His lecture is good with a great class atmosphere, he always use many examples to help us understand the concept. Many students think he is serious and not easy to get along with, but actually he is a very good professor, he is willing to help studets solve their problems, so does his TAs.
Drennan is the best professor I have ever had at Temple. I have never learned more about a topic before this class and that is all credited to Drennan's teaching style. This class takes an immense amount of work and hours of studying, but that's to be expected. The quizzes are tough, but he gives extra credit on exams plus 20 points for attendance
Drennan is the best professor I've had at Temple. He makes you work for your grade, but his no-excuses style of teaching makes it all worthwhile because you learn so much from him not just about the material, but about being a professional and a good person in general. Be careful - if you blow off class or don't study, you WILL fail!!
RMI2101 is a very hard class at Temple. From what Ive heard, even after taking this class there is not a "best" professor. Take Drennan if you really want to learn. He makes the class hard but you learn a lot. He's extremely respected at Fox and definitely worth taking even though the class is tough. He's a great resource if you want to network too
Drennan is the best! Get ready to ready (3501). Make flash cards and you will do well on the exams, read the articles and take notes and you will ace the quizzes. If you fail 3501 it is simply because you werent willing to put in the time to succeed. Be prepared to spend a minimum of 10 hours a week on the class. Drennan is the best !!!!
He is an amazing professor and he knows what he is talking about. I really did not know what to expect going into this class, but I have to say I am really glad that I chose Drennan.
Professor Drennan is a great professor who really cares about his students and is very dedicated to the risk department. The course is tough but if you take good notes in class and on the assigned articles, you should be able to secure an A.
Great lectures. Takes notes along with you so you know exactly what to write down and on what to focus. Engaging, asks lots of questions and answers them well. Get your group partner early, and start contacting companies early. Highly knowledgeable about the subject and, if you try, he makes it so you are, too.
Drennan is the man. Hardest professor you'll have at Temple, but he's worth taking because you learn so much. Be ready to read 10-15 articles a week, many about dry material and study for at least 10 hours a week if you want to pass. This class caught me off-guard with how much work I actually had to put in to get a B, but I'm glad I took him.
The class captures were very useful for me to understand topics from class lectures
Prof. Drennan is probably the best teacher I've had at Temple. He makes the class absurdly difficult, but you learn a tremendous amount in the process. If you think you will be interested in risk management, take his class as it's your best option. For anyone trying to pass RMI2101 with a solid grade and without trying, please do not take him.
Drennan is the best professor I've ever had. The course is difficult but he keeps the lectures super interesting and worth while. Don't let the negative comments scare you off, I've learned more in this class than I have in any other. Drennan truly makes you work for your grades so if I could give any advice, S T U D Y!!!
One of the best professors Ive ever had. In top top 3 list. He takes his job very seriously, he knows what hes talking and can definitely challenge your intelligence. Ill miss having him as a professor. I dont know if I passed but I have to give him credit for his greatness. Thanks Prof Drennan
I have never been as miserable as I have in my life than I was the semester I took Drennan's class. One time we had to teach the rest of a topic to ourselves because he threw a temper tantrum when a student went to the bathroom. He will assign fifty articles for one topic, textbook readings, and give you a quiz, as if you don't have other classes.
Overall, I genuinely enjoyed Drennan's class. Gives way more articles than MMC and they are repetitive, but they help you maintain the material. Quizzes aren't difficult per say but you need to study a lot to do well. You get 3 weeks to do the final project at the end of class so I'd pick your candidate EARLY + do the interview ASAP. Welcome to BC
Drennan thinks he is the coolest dude in town. In truth, his class is like any other. I was not a huge fan of his 'no technology' rule, as I much prefer to type my notes. I probably would have learned more about the subject, but it might have been a hit to his pride to see people not paying attention
Be prepared to read a TON of articles. I recommend taking hand written notes for all the articles in order to remember the material better. Spread them out and do them early enough so you can later review for quizzes/exams. Take the project seriously its worth 20% of your grade. Hard course but quizzes are announced at least.
Grades by a point system, says he doesn't give extra credit but does. if you attend every class you receive 20 extra credit points added to your total. Lectures are long and boring, notes must be hand written no computers. tests are very conceptual and hard, gives a lot of material to study. barely passed this class.
Dr. Drennan makes me not want to come to class. He forces students to take hand written notes, and refuses to take advantage of modern learning tools. He scratches sloppy notes onto his computer screen while explaining subjects in a dry, monotone, unenthusiastic, matter of fact manner. He knows a lot... but that doesn't make him a great teacher
Grading is all based off pretentious semantics. Even though you know the concept, he will take grades off if not written a certain way. Same way with exams, where all several choices can be applicable. Won't review exam or change grade even if your right. Incredibly conceited. Coming from the professional work environment, do not recommend.
People hate this guy, and I can see why. Do not take RMI2101 with Dr. Drennan if you are an English Second Language Student. His test's and quiz's are very conceptual and require very concise answers. You will work very hard to do well in this class, getting an A is not impossible. Take him if you are not scared to work hard to learn a lot.
Doesn't allow technology during class, and forces class to take tons of handwritten notes, about 5-7 pages per class on average. Sloppy handwriting makes it hard to tell what he is writing. Very difficult exams, so you have to understand the concepts well to do well on them. Not terrible, but be ready to study a lot if you take Drennan.
Nightmare of a class. However, you will learn more in this class than any other class at Temple. I hated my life while taking this class, but I would do it all over again. There are 300 assigned articles for supplemental reading throughout this course. Be prepared to spend 10 hours a week devoted to this class if you want to pass.
Everyone talks about how hard this class is but you just have to do the work. 3 non cumulative exams. a couple hmwk assignments that do make you work hard but helps you learn. we had 3 announced quizzes. Gives 20 ex credit points for going to class. He basically lectures by taking notes with you. Much better than powerpoints. Also, No electronics.
Prof Drennan is a good guy and he is respected. RMI2101 with Drennan is no walk in the park, be prepared to do a LOT of studying, and also be prepared to learn a lot. If you do all the homework and study for your exams you should at least pass.
Drennan's class is no easy task. There are a lot of article readings that you have to stay on top of to do well in the class. Take extremely good notes on Topic 3; it is the bulk of the course and also the basis of the group project. Watch class captures and take notes on his line of questioning during lectures.
Dr. Drennan's class will be the hardest course youve taken so far at Temple. However, Drennan is a absolute master at what he is teaching and goes through the entire course, slowly and clearly on a handwritten notesheet. Every class at Temple should be taught like this. You will have to work for your grade unlike other classes. TAKE HIM FOR RMI2101
He gets a hard on for being condescending to his students acting like being disagreeable and disrespectful is to prepare me for professional business environment. He acts all proud of the fact that his course is the mostly highly failed class at Fox as if it isn't a reflection of him being a bad professor and we don't pay thousands in tuition.
Drennan is the toughest grader I have ever had. People that say otherwise are lying. Got to study atleast 4 hours for the quizzes. Exams arent easy either. No technology in class. Hand written notes only. If you show up 1 min late your absent. Would not recommend and if he is your only option I would wait another semester. Do not take.
This is more than an analysis of RB Drennans class. If youre not an officer, dont expect any help getting a job. Drennan pushes his cult that is Gamma Iota Sigma, unless youre willing to devote all of your time getting on your hands and knees for the him and GIS, dont be a risk major at Temple University. Its a ploy.
Okay heres the run down on this guy. People talk about how strict he is but in reality the class is pretty easy, he just makes it as hard as he can. Scribbles notes on board using hand writing from a 5th grader, has ridiculous attendance policies and overall he isnt approachable at all. The content is pretty easy, but the class ss is boring. Avoid
Horrible professor. Horrible handwriting, but likes to blame it on getting his Master's @ Penn. Good excuse, professor. Currently in his class for the COVID-19 pandemic and he told us "for exams, we are going to use proctorial (camera for online exams), fox advises us not to use it but i'm not listening". Must I say more about this guy?
Everyone gives Drennan a hard time for being a stickler, but it's a successful way of teaching. I was so nervous for this class with him, but I've genuinely learned more than I have in any other Fox class. U do have to read and study hard to do well. He is lecture heavy and does handwritten notes which are hard to read but follow along and ur good.
Super strict professor who cares more about students following his class procedures than their actual learning. Has ridiculous rules like not allowing students to be a minute late, no use of laptops, no talking, and assigned seats for a lecture class. Has a very strong ego and often just wants to show his power over students.
Thinks he is the godfather and living legend of risk management at Temple meanwhile has never been in the industry and does not know how to teach. He also has all his little cronies do his dirty work for him. I had better professors at the community college I went to because they knew how to teach.
I'm currently in his intro class and it isn't that bad. You need to watch class captures again and study a lot for the exams, they are 3 at 20% each which is 60% of your grade. The homework is worth about 32% of your grade so take it seriously, and the rest is a couple of quizzes that are hard but don't affect your grade much. 4% bonus, work hard!
Has a massive ego, anyone with some emotional intelligence can see this. Class is not hard to pass of you follow his rules, arrogant, haughty, name drops to bolster his status. Tries to preach risk like it's the most important thing ever, when in reality hes more like a salesman selling his major. Should of got a b but got a c, avoid him
Professor Drennan is the worst teacher i have ever taken. Intro to risk is a very hard subject which makes sense but it seems like he makes it harder for students. He has ridiculous policies in place because he gets a kick out of being a hard ass. He says he cares about his students but clearly doesn't. Do not take him you will regret! it!!!
I do not believe you should take this prof. and here is why... You need to UNDERSTAND every single minor detail of the lecture notes he gives you in order to pass his quizzes/exams. You will not get by with general ideas and details. You need to spend hours upon hours of studying in order to understand his notes...
Dr. Drennan definitely has a reputation for being a tough professor, and while it's true that he is no-nonsense, he also clearly loves teaching and wants his students to succeed. Taking him online in the summer right now, the class moves QUICK, but if you put in the effort there's no reason you can't do well.
Professor Drennan is the real deal. He goes above and beyond to help his students learn and has high expectations for everyone. His TAs are literal geniuses and will also help you understand the content when confused. That being said its one of those classes that you can fail by not showing up or not putting in enough effort but an A if you do
If you attend every class and pay attention at a minimum there is no reason to get below a B. Lectures are long and boring but easy to understand. Apply yourself outside of class and the content becomes much less difficult.
RMI 2101 is not an easy class, and you probably know that already from what your friends have told you. Drennan is not going to lie to you when he tells you that it is hard, but if you put in the work you will do well. Do not expect to do the minimum because you will probably fail.
Get ready to read a lot of articles on health insurance. Drennan's dry humor added flavor to the class and he is an extremely genuine person (which I believe is rare in the upper echelons of business). I really enjoyed him as a professor and he truly wants to help others succeed professionally. RMI 3501 is a great learning experience with him.
Dr. Drennan is an extremely intelligent professor who not only knows course material in & out, but also genuinely loves what he does for a living. I have never worked so hard in my life so it was definitely rewarding. It is NOT easy, but if you show up, take thorough notes, study daily & actually understand concepts, NOT just memorize you will pass
A person, who has experience in the insurance industry aka real world. This instructor grades your exam essays to be poor & unconstructive. Despite to take notes & read textbook (irrelevant practice of the profession). Visited office hrs for q & a on exam grade essays to provide explanation & evidence. He replied, "I will fail the course."
His class is somewhat difficult, but if you do the extra credit and pay attention in class it shouldn't be hard to get a good grade. However, Drennan is extremely disrespectful towards his students and doesn't answer many questions. Most of the work in class he passes to his TA. He is very arrogant which makes each class hard to sit through.
The man, the myth, the legend, Drennan. It's a hard class so get over it. He's been teaching this for a long time and isn't going to change for you. Don't take both boot camps the same sem but take them the same year! PUT IN THE WORK. You need to study and read and put in so much work. GO TO LECTURES OR YOU WONT PASS! STUDY GROUPS! FLASH CARDS!
First class where I was actually interested in the topic. Gives well detailed notes and as long as you study the notes you will pass.
Get ready to take A LOT of notes. He gave us a lot of extra credit so honestly he is a good person. Not the best professor. For the exams online, it is proctored and you can't go back to questions which sucks because you can in person. he also leaves short answer questions at the end and I never had time to do them. homework are helpful. good luck!
While the class was genuinely interesting, not being able to go back and forth on test questions caused some serious stress. This was only worsened by having the short answer questions at the very end of the exam and praying you had enough time to get to them and finish as they were worth the most points. In person this class may have been ok.
Dont do it. Takes pride in being a hard ass and thinks it makes his class superior. Doesnt let you go back on tests or quizzes because he thinks that prevents people from cheating but really it just stresses everyone out. Especially because they are all open ended questions. Lectures are boring and consist of him typing notes. Just dont do it.
Dr. Drennan is an amazing guy. But, only take his class if you are able to comprehend book loads of information. He is very passionate about what he teaches, but he is too short-tempered when it comes to class. You can learn a lot of helpful information from him but beware of the heavy loads of work. Also, his exams and quizzes are unfair.
Do not take this class. Professor Drennan claims he can teach "unlike others" and this his class is superior to others, but just writes on a word document the whole time. Very narcissistic and makes class more difficult than it needs to be. Long homework assignments on top of quizzes that are only short answers and graded extremely harshly. Avoid.
Where do I start, he thinks he knows everything since he's the head of the department. BUT only take him if you want to fail. Save yourself and take a different professor pls.
Enjoyed his way of teaching. It is a difficult class no matter what, but if you enjoy the subject, it takes the same amount of effort as any other class. Usually, those who complain are ones who don't put in the time.
Class is really hard, he makes it harder than it has to be. Points dont come easy. If you dont read the articles you wont pass the quizzes, and there are a lot of articles. If you have to take this class, you probably have to take Drennan. He thinks this class is the most important thing ever and that your life depends on it. It doesnt. Good luck.
Definately the hardest class I have ever taken and probably ever will take. Not like it needs to be that way. The class is actually quite interesting, but the way it is taught turned me off completely from the subject. The homework is literally impossible to do perfectly and so are the tests/quizzes no matter how much you prep. SUPER HARSH GRADING
When I tell you do not take this class. Take my word for it. By far the worst professor Ive ever taken in my life. Exams are unfair and very difficult. If I could rate him a 0.. I would. Save yourself by taking this class with any other professor. Drennan has favorites and is rude. The worst of the worst. Hated this class and hes too fast paced.
Drennan isn't bad, but isn't the best. He thinks he knows everything, but he talks about some interesting things in the class. The point system for his grades is actually nice because he gives tons of extra credit!!!. This class is not easy. Be prepared to put in the work. All of these bad ratings probably didn't show effort in the class.
Dr Drennan gets the most out of his students. He holds everyone accountable. You cant just glide through this class. You have to work for everything. Drennan wants the best for his students. Take Drennan and no one else for RMI 2101. I failed Mccloskey but had no issues with Drennan.
Attendance not mandatory, but it would be foolish to skip. You MUST write down his notes and study from them, all of his assignment material is predominantly from his lecture notes, followed by posted readings. Very clear assignments, both HW and Quizzes, only if you pay attention to the lecture and take notes.
Professor Drennan is a SME. He takes time to go into detail and really teach the ins and outs of RMI. Its a tough subject that requires critical thinking. That makes the class tough but hes a great instructor. I took the course in the summer and was able to keep up. Its doable, just give it your best.
The lectures were always interesting and pretty straightforward. I wish all professors prepared notes in the way Drennan does, they make the class easy to follow. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should always go. You have to work for your grade but you have ample opportunities to do well in the class. College isn't supposed to be easy.
he's so impatient, he doesn't let you ask questions during class. you want to stay away from TA's and peer teachers in this class. they're not good at all. prof himself is so strict, he control everything on zoom class even chat and mute/unmute. he changes his zoom meeting id every day so just think how strict he is.
He is the meanest man you'll ever meet, makes class so much harder than it has to be.
Very difficult course to understand. The material itself is interesting, but Drennan is such a tough grader/makes the course more difficult than it needs to be that you end up feeling confused and defeated. The structure of the class itself is very strict too, asking questions feels forbidden & the chat is disabled for students to help one another.
Bad professor. Absolutely dreaded going to class. Weekly quizzes are 10 questions and contain content from 20-30 articles from outside sources. Unnecessarily hard way to teaching content. Probably the worst experience Ive had in an educational setting. Class is demoralizing. No doubt in my mind he enjoys destroying peoples GPA's.
Drennan's class is certainly not easy, but he a very knowledgable professor who gives great lectures. For his quizzes, just read all the articles and vaguely know the notes. For exams, don't just memorize the notes but truly understand the material. Do all the bonus and you will do well in his class and learn a lot.
Lots and lots of articles. Kinda sucked bc ur gonna have to stay in some weekends to read them. You won't pass the quizzes unless you read the articles. Exams are not that bad in my opinion they're only on the notes but he loves to trick you on questions so you can know everything inside and out and still get a 70. Extra credit really saved me.
Drennan was the first professor to make me shed tears over school, but was also the very first professor to actually challenge me and force me to apply myself to school. His classes are difficult, but they're rewarding and make you feel like you earned your grade/pass. He genuinely wants to see you succeed too, truly the GOAT.
Dr. Drennan was one of the best professors that I have ever had. He thoroughly explains all concepts and even gives extra credit for asking good questions and participating.
Drennan is the man. Super funny. Lectures get dry, but he manages to keep the class engaged. This guy is a total master at his craft.
All of the people on here complaining are the people that would like the grade handed to them. Not everything in life will be handed to you. Dr. Drennan is a phenomenal professor! If you do what you are supposed to do and ask questions instead of complaining about being confused, and then doing nothing about it, you will do great.
This is by far without a DOUBT in mind, the worst class i have ever taken growing up in my life. This teacher absolutely cares about no-one but himself. Disregard every single good review of this professor on here this is the worst one of them all. Save yourself the time and pass on this course. Just know i saved you.
Professor Drennan teaching is kind of aggressive & arrogant . He expect student to take note while he is teaching, and to pass his class you must answer questions exactly the way he explained it during class. No Textbook, he uses PowerPoint slide not available for student. The worse class I have taken so far at Temple. Just stay away from him.
Professor Drennan is a great professor. This class is going to be hard and he knows it. We did not have homework, only one group project which we did with one other person in the class. Make sure to keep up with his articles posted on Canvas.
He is super strict about coming late especially if its one or two minutes late....and every class is super boring, he definitely makes you work for your grade. I would never take this professor again.
Drennan isn't bad. Just show up and do the work and participate and you'll do fine!
I recommend taking Drennan because he will make you a better student. He has a strict set of rules, and the most important thing is showing up to class and taking good notes--which he gives you. All in all, this is a weed-out class so no matter who you take it is not going to be easy. So who ever you take, you have to study and put in some effort.
I recommend Drennan over McCloskey because you will come out of his class as a better student. His rules are strict, and you have to go to class and take notes--which he gives you. All in all, this is a weed-out class so whoever you get it's going to be tough, and you are going to have to study.
Dr. Drennan is arguably one of the best professors @ Temple. His class is hard, that's never going to change. People only complain because they aren't willing to put in the work and get by without trying like every other class in Fox. He truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He has changed so many student's lives for the better.
Professor Drennan is very knowledgable in his field. However, how he runs his class is despicable. He says he wants you to learn and succeed but his grading system is horrendous. Things aren't graded on time to be used to study off of. Peer teachers grade differently so you never know what you're going to get and some are VERY picky. DONT TAKE HIM
Dr. Drennan's intro class is in my opinion the hardest lower level class at Temple. It very intimidating because there are no phones and sometimes no laptops allowed, but it actually does help as frustrating as it is. He is a tough grader, but he you can tell how passionate he is about the career and the opportunities it provides.
Dr. Drennan's class is not easy, but if you follow his advice and study you will do well in his class. To do well on the quizzes and exams you have to study the articles as well as his lectures. Dr. Drennan is also excellent at helping you understand topics that you are confused about. There are multiple opportunities for extra credit.
Dr. Drennan's class is challenging, but his lectures and feedback are invaluable. Consistent study, including using resources like ChatGPT and unstuckstudy ai, can really pay off. Tough but rewarding.
knows his stuff and is dedicated to his job but is so unlikeable. Feels the need to give a sales pitch every class about why RMI is the only good major at Temple and will talk smack about every other major @TU. His comments about his religious beliefs or waiting till marriage are inappropriate. Def a trumper. Useful resource but guy is insufferable
Does everything to make the most miserable learning environment in the 50 minutes he has you. Has stared down a student for opening their water bottle and called another one lazy for using the bathroom. Currently reviewing one of the 26 articles in the unit that our next weekly pop quiz may touch on. Best of luck.
I'm not sure why he is held to very high standards when he is just rude. Not helpful. Told me my internship won't get me anywhere in the future, told some girl in my class that she didn't deserve the scholarship she got. He is a mean man, rude. Also, his quizzes involve writing; he takes away points for too much detail and not enough detail.
If you're not religious then pick a religion and pray
Great guy.
He's an interesting guy... you gotta get through him so just really lock in one semester and get it done
Very good at explaining tough topics. The class material is honestly easy. The hard part is the amount of work he gives you to prepare for exams and quizzes. Expect some pop quizzes as well.
