I feel sorry for him because the class he teaches has quite a few students who complain about everything because they are too lazy to do the work required to get through the class.
Teacher does not follow text. Class is more comparable to DS 3810, only you have no textbook to follow and horrible examples from class. I had to borrow a 3810 book to pass the class.
Finegan is hard to hear, he tends to whine in front of the classroom. But his class isn't so hard if you just follow the assignments. He isn't too easy, because he prefers specific computer jargon and methods that aren't really standard.

He isn't that hard, but he tends to belittle you if you do not understand a concept. Do the homework and go to class and you should do fine.
Finegan will help you if you go to him. Sometimes he's hard to hear and understand in class, but the classwork is not hard if you just do the homework projects on computer. Just ask him if you need help, and he helps you in or out of the classroom.
You would have to be an idiot to have problems in this class. The class is composed of simple computer knowlege that everybody should already know. I made an A and I finished all assignments in less than 20 minutes each(which left a lot of time to play)
This professor was very nice to me and he helped me very much. If your not a computer nerd then you are going to need some extra help and Finegan gave me that. He is a little harder than most other DS2810 teachers but he'll help you out in the long run.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FROM FINEGAN!!! Unless you are a computer freak, you will have problems. He does not speak up very well either. If you have a problem with something, he will make you feel like an idiot. If you have to take this, God be with you

I hated this teacher. DO NOT TAKE DS 2810 FROM HIM!!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE IT. VERY HARD GRADER. MUST DO EVERYTHING TO A T. Unless you are a nerd he will not like you and will not help out if you go talk to him. Thinks people should know all about computers.

Well if you didn't go see all of the matrixs the first night, you won't like him. You have to be the biggest computer geek to do well in this class. If you don't know anything about computers don't take him! He will belittle you if you ask a question.
If you want to fail a class or have to drop a class take him. He is a horrible teacher, and he doesn't help his studetns at all.
This teacher grades everything really hard! He will help you, but he will make you feel stupid while you ask him the question. Try not to take him for 2810, and if you do have to take him, you better have a good god to pray to!

Had him last semester. Great teacher! Nice looking :) Lot's of morons around that won't do the work, fail, and blame prof. Everyhting is shown. People are just really stupid these days. Maybe they don't belong in college.

Easy material, completely inept teacher. His instructions are flawed and incomprehensible on a regular basis. Don't bother telling him, he'll argue and argue that he's right and then tell the class about the problem as though he figured it out himself.
Great instructor. Do a little of the homework and pay some attention and you'll get a good grade. You'll learn more with him than the other instructors.
man....if you can avoid this guy, at all costs, do so. i took his class and got an 80, which is a B, then he wanted to have the tests weigh differently so that i would get a C instead. Definitely do not take this guy, so boring, just wants you to fail
If you know anything about Microsoft Office, then you shouldn't have a problem. You do have to do the homework and actually pay attention in class though. Finegan is a little rough, but just try to buddy up to him and he will help you.
This cat thinks the first DS class is suppose to be really challengeing and a hard class. Grade distrupution is a joke. I made above a 90 on 9 of 11 assignments and made a C in the class.

Stay away! He's weird and I believe his main goal in life is to see how many people he could fail or see how many people actually LAUGH at his jokes! Worst teacher i've had at Tech!
If you want to learn computer basics and are willing to put forth the required effort, take this class. You'll use most everything you learn in DS2810 again in your college career. Drawback-- TOO MANY QUIZZES.
People who do bad in this class just don't study. This stuff is easy. Maybe he /isn't/ very clear on his lecture, but if you just study, it's NOT hard.
Harder than other 2810 classes...don't take him if possible. He is very knowledgeable, but he acts as if everyone in the class wants to be a computer major. Class is boring, so is he. If you study for quizzes and do the homework, you should do fine.
he is ocd, he failed one of my friends for not capitalizing a m in his file name for a test. If you don't mind wasting 3 hours, or failing then have at it.
he was very rude and called me a liar when I got snowed in. A terse unhappy little man. I dropped the class.

Mr. Finegan is very intelligent when it comes to computers. However, he is assumes too much when it comes to his teaching methods. Also, he is very rude and makes the students feel stupid if they dont understand a concept immediately.

He was the worst teacher ever ! he expected you to look at his examples and be able to test on it in two classes later ! he never cancels class - he is really old school and never changes his mind about anything ! half our class dropped and went to wells ! GET MRS. WellS! she was amazing !
As a person he's a jerk. I actually felt sorry for him cuz his life must be miserable. His assignments are monkey-see monkey-do. He shows you how and do it exactly as he does!! Do this and it's an easy A. Try to do anything creative and he will count off big time. Lays out assignments well. Follow them to a T w/ nothing extra.
Rob expects you to be able to follow directions so grow up. If you don't know how to do something you had better ask. He's treats us like the world will when we get out - no pity. Do your job (as a student) and you'll do well. So his homework assignments cut into your party time, boo hoo.
Mr. Fineagan knows what he's talking about but like many others in his situation, he cannot teach the material. He makes it out to be your fault. "Monkey See Monkey Do" If we could learn everything from books, we wouldn't need teachers. You can do okay if you have a tutor and do the homework.
You better be all over the class. He seems like you already know the material and pretty much runs through the whole lesson really fast. You need to make sure you know all the formulas in Excel because you can't type in the cell row and column. Not a good choice for this class.

Class is easy, but you need to know the basics of computers and applications for his teaching. He expects you to know atleast something about computers. He can come across as a jerk but if you talk to him after class or in his office he's pretty personable... have to do the work or you wont pass the tests but easy class for the computer literate

Absolutely awful!!! Do NOT take this class. He does not care whether you pass or fail. Finegan goes through Excel super fast and his tests in Excel do NOT follow what he teaches in class. He also makes you feel so dumb when you make a minor mistake and as for help. He is extremely opinionated and your opinion is always wrong to him!
He told us on the first day of class "This is basic stuff and if you can't already do it, you shouldn't be in college." I will give him credit to say that he is willing to help outside class, but it never did me any help. There are better DS professors at Tech, and I would hightly recommend taking one of them instead and you will get a better grade

Horrible. This class is normally an easy A. I had to work my butt off to get a B. Very arrogant, expects you to know everything. We started out with about 40 people at the beginning of the semester, we had about 14 at the final.

He is very vague and the class is hard. If you don't have a background in this already then you will have to scrape for everything. Tests are hard! Especially the ones over the information systems book. Lectures are boring and he gets sidetracked really easy. Also he's very blunt and sometimes extremely rude.

Let me start off by saying hes isn't a doctor. He is a man showing students how to use Microsoft software(as if it's difficult). He is anal about his "classdrops folder." He gives Quizzes over material he doesn't cover in class, and are cryptic in the textbook. He dwells on trivial things in class,(ie."I bought this really awesome thumb drive!")
Mr. Finegan- most unapproachable teacher i've ever had. He is excessively rude, has no interest in helping students, loves himself too much, and goes out of his way to make you feel stupid if you ask a question. He also tends to put things on the tests that he fails to teach. WARNING: teacher may lead to psychotic breakdown.
Might I say someone should write Dr. Bell and TBoR a letter describing how pompous Finegan is. The Janitors have a better attitude. He acts as if he is GOD of Johnson Hall. If you do the homework like he says to do, then the tests and quizzes are easy. He is funny, but makes sure that what you need to know is covered. If you are a baby, and need to be walked through everything because you dont want to do the tutorials then dont waste his time by taking his section.
My class started out with 45...by the end of the semester there were 14. Very Rude! Do not ask questions unless you want to be embarrassed. He made an easy class way too hard. I admit to being computer retarded but isn't that why the teacher is there?....To help you?? One word for this class... Nightmare!!
Finegan tends to teach his material way to fast. He says if you do the tutorials you'll do fine however its hard to do the the tutorials if he only goes over them one time. If I had to take this class again I would take another professor.

Very hard teacher doesnt explain well and to drop because of low grades. However i did study alot and nothing helped because he assumes you know just as much as he does about computers. do not recommend.
Not a bad teacher. Just do the tutorials and practice what he teaches again and again to review for his tests and you'll make an A. Be sure though to think before you ask a question, he will make fun of you if it's a stupid question. Which is funny to see him on his rants just be sure your not the person getting made fun of.
This class is very easy to do well in if you come to class and pay attention to his lectures. He also will help you if you are having trouble. He is also funny in class so the lectures arent that boring. He does not give out free A's like some other teachers in the department but you will learn more from his class than the others. Take him.

He's actually a great teacher if you pay attention in class, i barely had to study and got an A even though i got low C's on my exams, he divided the grades out quiet well so that you don't have to only depend on the exams to do well in class. if u depend on homework and quizzes more than exams and tests take his class!
This instructor is great. he is very firm on how he wants things. It is his class so it is his way. do your work and ASK QUESTIONS. Cant learn if you do ask what you dont know. Is very helpful to all of his students unless you are not willing to ask for it. Would take him again with out a second thought.
He is teaching excel and expects the students to already know how to do everything even though it is introductory course. He would not teach the material instead he would just do the work, not explain what he did, and would get mad when we would ask a question. I dropped the class because you can't pass the class unless you already know excel

One of the worst professors I've had in my three semesters at Tech. He wouldn't answer my question before a test because he 'didn't have time'. Does not care if you pass/fail. Very inconsiderate person in general. I suggest anyone else before him.
He's not going to hold your hand, but if u want to learn this stuff he's the Guy. Your gonna work in this class but nothing unreasonable. Always had 2 weeks or more to complete assignments. Will answer any questions just not DURING TESTS! Exams are right from the homework and he gave a 30 point curve. If you cant pass this class your just lazy!
The class is not interesting at all but is required for basic business degrees. He is not a very nice person UNLESS you show up to class willing to learn and put in the extra time to study. He uses the book and it is very useful for preparing for tests. The class is difficult but a B is achievable. Try to take a different professor if possible.
If you get offended easily don't take Rob. His jokes are absolutely hilarious. The class is pretty easy and i am someone who hates working with computers. He takes attendance everyday and tests are all on your own time. Overall a great teacher and i would definitely take him again.
Rob is the funniest guy I have ever met. If you get offended easily don't take this class... He will make you feel like an idiot, but you just have to laugh. If you laugh at all his jokes, he will love you. (that is what I did). His tests are on your own and not that hard. have fun!!
I have mixed feelings about this professor. On one hand he is hilarious as a person. Though his actual teaching skills leave something to be desired. He spends the first half of class telling you all sorts of stories that aren't relevant to anything you're doing. But once he actually does start teaching the material he explains it quite well.
Professor Finegan is a great professor in that he knows what he's talking about. Can be somewhat harsh at times, but if you are respectful you won't have any trouble. Participate in class, he doesn't like speaking to a quiet room with no feedback. Pretty much gives you the majority of your grade through the applications that you can redo until 100.
Finegan is a great professor and will definitely help if a student takes it upon themselves to make sure they get the help. Have to have the book, have to go to class. Although his sense of humor is a bit questionable, it's still hard not to laugh every time you're in class.
DO NOT take this class with this instructor! Rude, insulting, and changes the syllabus after work has been completed. Read a book about Excel from the book store and learned more in twenty minutes than I did in an entire semester from Mr. Finegan.

Well he is very intellectual but can't always explain it in an understandable way. Interesting class with his humor but can be annoying at times. First 30 minutes of class is a story about his life the rest is running through material quickly. He uses 100% attendance to round up your grade. If you can learn at a fast pace take him. A lot of info.
Funny guy, can be rude to students who ask stupid question, but they usually deserve it. His class consists of random stories for 20 minutes, going over a practice problem, and getting out 45 minutes early. One easy final straight out of the book, every other assignment can be redone as many times as you need until you get an A. Takes Attendance.
Class always got let out 45 minutes early. You can submit homework as many times as you want until you get a 100. Might change up how he did the class so don't go in banking on that. 1 test all year, exactly like a problem from the book. Would go up, work a problem, and let you out, basically teach yourself. Easy A.
Expect to teach yourself in this class. His lectures are not helpful and if he didn't take attendance I wouldn't have gone. You learn from online simulations, which are super easy. Tests are simple. Finegan in general is extremely rude, and not helpful.

He can be sarcastic/rude in class, but is much nicer if you go to office hours. He takes attendance so you have to go to class. Weekly homework online, 3 tests, and a final.
Mr. Finegan knows the subject but does not go over it in great detail. He expects you to read the book and learn on your own. Talk to him during office hours and build a relationship with him. He will be more willing to work with you and give you a better grade if you do. If you have perfect attendance, he adds 2 points to your final grade.
Honestly, I hated this professor. He wasn't the best teacher, but the book is helpful. Worst part was his 40 minute rant about something random at the beginning of class. Talked about stuff that honestly could get him fired. Stuff that goes against school policy in the worst way. Sounds pissed when you ask for help in class.

get ready to teach yourself and have to deal with a nasty, rude old man all semester. if you want to feel bad about yourself and be talked down to all semester then this is the perfect class for you.
I have never been in a class where the professor was so extremely unprofessional and rude. He's quite prone to mood swings and sends constant angry e-mails to the entire class, even if you're not the person making him angry. The course content is basic Excel, and you will do it entirely yourself in SimNet while trying to avoid incurring his wrath.
