This guy explains everything really well in class, and gives you questions from old tests. But when you get to the actual test, they're worded really tricky, and he is the most subjective grader I've ever seen, he'll dock you points cuz he feels like it.

Garnett is probably one of the best teachers in the econ department. His class is not difficult if you listen to him and show him that you care. Some test questions may be considered subjective.

This guy is an aweful professor. He pauses a lot when he speaks and he speaks to the board. He definitely plays favorites. If he doesnt like you, then you will not do well on his tests.

I had him for Micro and loved him, the class, b/c it was simple and relatively easy, so was expecting the same when I took him for Macro. But that wasn't the case. He was unorganized, unclear, and a significantly more critical grader

You have to try, but he will do anything to help. Pretty easy B, an A will take some work. Has gotten a little meaner since his divorce. Don't argue with him over questions in class wait till after and be respectfull.

This class is good for all of you with no short term memory, cause he goes over the same things for three class periods, one chapter takes you 2 weeks to do. If you go to every third class, you will miss nothing, but his tests are still hard.

I took Klopfenstein and then Quinn, and finally Garnett over the summer. Alright, I'm not good at econ, but I did well in this class and I recommend him for micro econ.

He is a tough grader on your research proposal but gives a lot of helpful tips and gives you 3 chances to improve upon it. If you give it effort you can make an A or at least a high B in his class.

I was surprised at the work that I had to put into this class. He had quizzes over reading every Tuesday(5 questions over 160 pages of reading or so) and had a lot of writing to do. It wasn't bad, I just had my expectations a little to high for a little simplicity. He's a great guy my fav prof @ TCU

I'm an education major, and have never taken an economics class before, and am not good at math...but Mr. Garnett did a great job explaining the material, and you can tell that he cares about his students and wants them to do well!! I would definately take him again, he's a great teacher!!

This is a MUST take class! It is set up as a class discussion class and you talk about contemporary topics and their relation to economics. This class gives you great tools in critical thinking and research and is a real eye opener. Going to class is fun...take this course!

This class was very well structured. It is a good upper level Econ class. The writing assignments required a lot of effort, but improved my writing and research skills. Dr. Garnett is an extremely approachable professor. The class helps with understanding the real world application of Economics.

He is a very nice man. He is a long-winded lecturer. He rarely lets class out early, mostly because he says everything at least twice. He works hard to help students do well. His tests are short answer and fairly hard. There are 5 reading quizes that are amazingly tough. Attendance counts for 10% of the grade. So go to class.

Dr. Garnett excels as a professor because he WANTS you to learn Macro. He relates the subject matter well, will help you anytime you are confused (which is rarely because he explains himself well), and prepares you for all of your exams. If you have the chance, don't pass up Dr. Garnett. If you are motivated, you will do well.

Dr. Garnett is the perfect example of a quality professor. He will challenge you, but does so in a way that will interest you in economics and he will be very clear and fair in doing so. I highly recommend Dr. Garnett for any class, for you will take a lot of out of his class and the work load will be very fair. Great Professor!

I liked the class and really liked Dr. Garnett most of the time. He became very difficult to contact and wasn't helpful with the final paper assignment. He would've been better if he hadn't been preoccupied about getting out for the summer and getting married. He never returned e-mails, so you have to catch him before/after class.

Dr. Garnett is such a nice man. He really loves economics and will make it as interesting as he can so you begin to like it too. Just attend class, pay attention, study about 2 hrs. for each exam and you will definitely get an A.

Dr. Garnett is a great asset to TCU. Not only does he make every class fun and interesting, but makes an already fascinating topic even more interesting by providing real-world examples to the learning process. Macroeconomics with Dr. Garnett is such a great class! He has a very clear, specific teaching style and that he never tries to "trick" anyone on tests. Dr. G gives you exactly the information the class needs to know, and teaches in a way that is understandable for all his students. Dr. G has even written his own workbook which is VERY helpful!

Dr. Garnett is a wonderful professor. He mostly teaches from his manual and if you keep up with that and class notes which are basically the answers for the manual. You will do just fine in his course. He also does not like final exams so you have to write an easy 4-6 page paper. Take this course.

Dr. Garnett is the NICEST and most intelligent professor at TCU... I took research methods with him (which isn't a fun class), but he made it very interesting. It was probably the class I've learned the most (and this is my 4th year). Don't think twice, take Dr. Garnett for ANY class, you won't regret it :)

Dr. Garnett was a fabulous professor...I really enjoyed going to class every day. I learned and retained tons of useful and applicable information from his class lectures alone. If you go to class, pay attention, and keep up with the homework,you will really enjoy this class and learn a lot!

Dr. Garnett is a great professor. Attendace is important but the lectures are interesting so it's not difficult to go to class. Test reviews and a work book prove to be extremely helpful. Definitely take him for macro. He's one of the best professors that I've had at TCU.

History of Economic Thought is a MUST for any econ student. Although, I recommend anyone take it. Dr. Garnett is absolutely wonderful. He does an incredible job at explaining the course material and getting students involved during class. This course was truly eye opening because it really illuminates how much more we have left to learn in econ.

For anyone having to take an economics course, History of Thought is highly recommended and gives you a whole new outlook on economics. Even if you do not have a love for economics, he makes his classes interesting and relevant.

Dr. Garnett is the man in economics. In his macro course he covers about 4 broad subjects and explains everyone very thoroughly. He makes sure the class really understands. He even holds an extra class before a test to answer any questions. He is a great teacher and I recommend him to everyone.

Took Intro to Microeconomics during the 5 weeks summer session and it was great. The workbook is awesome for preparing you for exams and he covers the material in a way that makes coming to class not boring. He is very approachable and willing to help with any Q's, you just have to ask. Dr. G's Intro to Micro class is highly recommended!

Dr. G is an awesome professor. He teaches economics in way that makes it easy to understand. He showed real world applications and examples that helped relate topics to how they will be used in life so you felt like you were really going to use what you learned. The lectures are very well structured and helpful. Class notes are the most important resource to study for the test. The tests are essay style and the best strategy is to just write everything you know about the question. He is helpful and cares about his students. He is one of the better econ professors at TCU. I recommend taking his classes.

One of the best professors Ive had so far. Makes class interesting and easy to understand. Lectures are easy to follow. Lets you know whats covered on each test and has a review session before each test, which really helps out a lot of people. Papers are graded fairly and usually help your grade. Dr. Garnett is an excellent professor. He clearly conveys economic concepts. He also works with students in and out of class to explain these classes further. He is flexible when it comes to rescheduling assignments if the concepts have not been clarified in class. The assignments are challenging but clearly relevant to the ideas being studied

Rob is a great professor. I was not looking to another econ class after my previous semester with a terrible teacher, but I ended up really enjoying his class. He explains concepts clearly and is willing to help if you have qeustions. He provides most of the material so if you study that you will make a good grade.

Dr. Garnett is a wonderful teacher. econ is a hard subject for me and Dr. G helped me so much! Teaches in a clear manner and relates subject matter to today's world. gives lots of handouts which is awesome and has a workbook that resembles a lot of the test questions. I highly recommend taking Dr. G!! easy to talk with and an awesome teacher!

Very nice and helpful guy. Not an easy class, but not super difficult either. Go to class, take notes and do the workbook. He doesn't give a final, just a 5 page paper at the end of the class which was very nice! I'd recommend him to anyone who has to take Macro.

I really liked Dr. Garnett's class. You can tell that he really has a passion for what he teaches and for teaching in general. Really cares about student's perceptions and input. Lectures can be long sometimes but I feel like I learned a lot from them especially since he relates it so much back to the real world. I'd recommend Dr. G!

Very good professor. Extremely helpful withs lots of office hours. Class is pretty easy if you do the workbook questions and take notes. But definitely do the workbook questions!!!! Tests are very similar to those. Plenty of office hours, and he has review sessions before tests. Essays aren't too bad either. I would definitely recommend this class.

It is clear that he LOVES economics but his lectures are SO boring it is very har to sit through the class. The only reason I went to class is because you can only miss one before he stats taking points away. His tests are all short essay format and it is difficult to answer exactly how he wants you to.

The summer course was surprisingly entertaining. Dr. Garnett moves at a pace that allows you to keep up with another class or a job and still gives plenty of grade opportunities. I would wholeheartedly recommend his summer class for anyone who has to take this.

As long as you attend class, and keep up with the workbook work you should be fine. Professor Garnett presents information in a way that is easily understood for non-economics majors. He is easy to talk to and willingly answers all your questions. He is a wonderful professor and you SHOULD take his class if given the opportunity!!

Very interesting because you learn economic theories that you mght otherwise never read on your own. Lots of reading and writing (no tests, just papers that are fairly short), but its manageable. Being a discussion leader is not as bad as it seems, and he helps you out. Class also allows you to comparevarious theories & "think like an economist"

Dr. G was awesome. I had him for summer school. If you are reading this review because your a seeing which teacher to take..take him. just make sure to do his workbook stuff and jot down some notes during class and its a for sure B. I hate micro and he made it easy to understand and interesting

He is a very nice guy, and obviously knows his stuff about economics, but he has absolutely NO business teaching. He doesn't know how to explain the material well and he will start to explain something then in the middle of his lecture he will stop and go on to a completely new topic. He makes it harder than it really should be.

Took intro to macro econ with him. Was my last class at TCU. Easy class, just know the workbook inside and out and your golden. He's a smart guy who knows his stuff and the class teaches you to look at how the economy works in a different way. Great class, take him.

I took History of Economic Thought with Garnett. The class calls for a lot of reading and involvement in class discussions. If you don't put in the effort you will do poorly but the class can be very engaging if you stay on top of the course work. You will be exposed to a lot of different economic ideas that make the class enjoyable.

I have taken Dr. G for intro macro and Contending Perspectives in Economics. As a graduating senior, I would say he is one of the most intelligent profs I've had at TCU and he truly makes an effort to relate current economic issues to his students' interest. This is a dynamic and rewarding course as long as students dedicate their time and effort.

One of the best professor at TCU! Extremely nice and open to all of your questions. Come talk to him if you have any problems. Respects his students and cares about your grades as well. Tests are not really hard - read the book and do all of the HW and assignments carefully, you'll get an A. He gives the best short answers I've ever seen!

Awesome professor! I dreaded waking up for my 8:00am's last semester, but this class really isn't that hard. Do your work or you wont pass. But you're guaranteed a high b/a if you do since it's so straightforward. (incoming freshman - go to class!)

Mr. Garnett is an AWESOME teacher. The material is hard, but if you go to class and take notes and really try to comprehend the concepts you will be alright. An A is hard to get, a B is definitely common and doable. GO TO CLASS and be prepared for all the quizzes (weekly reading). Great professor!

Dr. Garnett was, without a doubt, the best economics professor I had at TCU. His history of Economic Thought class is by no means easy, and is very writing intensive, but if you put in the effort you will learn a ton about the foundations of the economic discipline. Dr. G is very helpful and has his students best interests in mind.

Great Professor and the nicest one I think I've had at TCU. Dr. Garnett actually makes you think. You have to read because you spend class discussing the reading. I didn't have much interest entering the course but it turned out to be interesting because of Dr. Garnett. Take this class.

Dr. Garnett is one of the best professors at TCU by far. His class discussions are very stimulating. The class is very reading and writing intensive but Dr. G has it structured very well so that you can stay on top of everything. I highly recommend taking any class Dr. G has to offer!

Dr. Garnett is one of the best professors at TCU. HistEconThought is an extremely manageable class if you attend class and do the readings. Garnett knows you are not just taking his class and he assigns readings accordingly. I highly recommend this class if you want to learn and develop your ideas.

Contending Perspectives Summer Class - Class is very straightforward, daily quizzes over readings and papers over content. Much better class than the one taught by Harvey, focuses on understanding the different aspects of Economic thought instead of memorizing a book.

I was in Dr. Garnett's contending perspectives in economics during the summer and overall he was a very good teacher. Though the class was not mandatory we did have quizzes most everyday based on the readings. There was no textbook required so all the readings were given in class. All exams were take home and written. He is a reasonable grader.

Dr. Garnett's is the best Economics professor at TCU. I was in his summer Contending Perspectives course and there are daily quizzes so class attendance is a must. Readings are sometimes difficult to understand but Dr. Garnett is very clear and helpful. There is no textbook and he tries to keep the readings light.

Contending Perspectives in Economics. Dr. Garnett is passionate about his class and wants everyone to do well. He is available outside of class. We had reading quizzes everyday, which were very easy and helped my grade quite a bit. I did not find the class very interesting, but I strongly recommend him to anyone. He is a great teacher!

No test, only papers and quizzes. No textbook per say, Just some readings he assigns from a binder. Do the readings, there is at least 1 quiz a week. He notices if you miss, but attendance isn't mandatory... Easy B... read and try and should get an A

Extremely nice professor, very helpful during office hours. Sometimes is so smart he has trouble getting points across, but lectures are easy to follow. Mandatory readings followed by quizzes, generally once a week, but most are engaging. Highly recommend his class to all econ majors, I actually feel like i learned useful things.

Dr. Garnett is a great professor! You can tell that he is passionate about his subject and makes even "boring" topics interesting. He is very fair and straightforward about what to expect on the tests and quizzes, he wants his students to succeed. Readings aren't too bad and he prints handouts and tells you what you will be tested on. Take Dr. G!

The discussion nature of the class sometimes made it hard to follow along and contribute, as well as decide what notes are important to take if you have trouble understanding the readings. No tests, only quizzes and two papers, which are straight-forward. Dr. G was always available for questions on the papers. Would take him again if I could.

This class is actually pretty interesting. The professor is extremely helpful and understanding, and if you have questions, he is more than willing to answer them. Lectures are interesting, but do not really follow the book, so you really have to attend class.

This was my favorite class this semester because of Dr. G! He gives weekly quizzes which help to make sure you know the material, but they definitely aren't easy so they can bring down your grade. He is very helpful though and always available and does a great job making the class interesting. He is also quite possibly the sweetest professor here.

Excellent class! Dr. Garnett really made learning about different schools of thought interesting and easy to understand. NO TESTS! Only quizzes each day that aren't bad, and papers. If you can show you know what the topic is about on your paper you will be fine. The class exercises your mind each day. I highly recommend Dr. G and his class!

Two words: he cares. About economics, about his class, and about his students. Easily my best professor so far. He keeps readings short and will sometimes change them if he thinks they'll be boring for us. Rubric sounds intimidating, but it's awesome. Papers can be graded toughly, but the 50% weighted quizzes and participation cushion it fairly.

Dr. Garnett gives an extremely interesting class that provides different perspectives on economics matters. If students take serious the readings and put forth effort then Dr. Garnett will work with you. If students choose not to read assignments, it will hurt double-fold: once on the quizzes and then on the papers.

This class is a great take! An A takes effort, and you can't get by without reading, but Dr. G is a GREAT professor and if you have a chance to take him you should. If you aren't sure what he expects, he'll tell you. Don't take the class because it's easy, take it because you WILL learn if you put in the effort. I RECOMMEND

Didn't do as well as I had hoped on the first paper, but improved my grade to an A after going into talk to him. He puts a lot of work and thought into his teaching and if you take initiative, he will help you. The content is important, but more importantly he teaches you how to think. Highly recommend, one of my favorite teachers at TCU so far.

Dr. Garnett is a great teacher. He holds many class discussions and encourages participation. There is reading nearly every day but it is almost always interesting. The daily quizzes will help your average a lot if you do the readings. He grades the essays hard but tries to help. Not an easy A.

Find a different elective. Hist of Econ Thought requires a lot of work and reading. Quizzes were difficult and the papers were harder. Dr. G keeps instructions open on the papers, but grades them very hard. Open instructions made it harder. Personal Connection assignments are ineffective, we listened to students give their "feelings" on readings.

The class is focussed around 2 major essays, one at midterm and one at the final. There are no tests! However there are daily reading quizzes, These are easy and only worth 2 points, so even if you bomb it, you'll most likely get a 12. If you need to miss class you can just email him and he will let you take it next class. Participation also matte

Dr. Garnett is a very intelligent and thoughtful professor. He clearly cares about the quality of his classes and works to keep students engaged. Don't get excited about the "no tests" aspects of this course because the papers you write instead are long and graded pretty narrowly. Dr. G is always willing to help and emailing him is encouraged.

Best Econ class I've taken at TCU. Dr. G's lectures are interesting and easy to understand. The class was very organized. Only homework were typically short readings, and there were no surprises on the tests. Dr. G is a very fair grader and very helpful outside of the classroom. Dr. Garnett is one of the best professors at TCU. I have never had a teacher put forth so much effort on behalf of their students. He continually goes out of his way to help students succeed. He even allowed us to design our final paper so that we could apply our economic learning to something we actually cared about. Will take again if possible.

History of Economics is an interesting class overall and not over the top difficult. The class feels more like a combination of poli sci/econ so if you're into both you'll love this class. Although there is an in class quiz every day, it's really more of a participation point than anything that helps reduce the importance of the few tests.

Prof Garnett is the best! He's very invested in making sure his students succeed. His Contending Econ class was so interesting. There's a decent amount of reading and in class quizzes basically every day, but as long as you actually read and listen in class, you'll do great. I have taken 2 of Robs classes, and I love anything he teaches. He makes every class fun to attend even if the subject is a bit boring. The test are relatively easy, just make sure you attend every class. If you need any Econ electives make sure to take any of his classes if they are available!
