I'm guessing he's new this year but overall made the class great. He's very chill and easy to understand. No tests but 3 major critical thinking papers and he doesn't even grade them until finals week but he'll talk you through your papers to help you get better! Really funny too. Skipping class isn't recommended; you'll just get lost

He is absolutly my favorite teacher up to this point. He is really helpful, and makes class enjoyable to attend. I recomend him to everyone!

He is a very helpful teacher. He is young and felt like a student. It was his first semester when he taught me and we got to watch The Wire half the semester. He chose good topics and was willing to help.

He is the BEST Professor!!! I am glad to be in another one of his classes next semester. He was very helpful on anything you needed. Also, he liked everyone. Mr. Mawyer would make a great professor for anyone of any age!

Rob was an amazing teacher. He was so down to earth and very easy going. I loved him as a teacher; his classes were always a blast to go to. He choses topics that aren't of the norm but always brings it back to you someway. Great teacher. Everyone should take him.

Yes only 3 papers and in class assignments, but has unreal expectations for a first year english class. Makes you interview 4 people for one of your papers. I wouldn't recommend him.

i loved this class. rob was an unconventional teacher but the stuff he brought to the students attention had real world significance. hes totally nice and totally cute, and its a good class to take.

Rob is one of my favorite teacher at RVC! He is not your regular english teacher and there are only 3 papers. He is a great guy but a very very hard grader. Do not take him if you are looking to take an easy class or get a easy A. He excepts a lot out of you as a student but on the other hand he is willing to help any student that comes to him.

One of the best teachers RVC has to offer. Yeah! might be some lazy people like the others that write nothing but bad comments about him because probably didn't go to class in time or they expect the teacher to do the homework for them. He goes the extra mile to help you, gives you more than enough time to turn in your homework. He is the best!!!

I went into this class expecting it to be easy as pie. Little did I know! Professor Mawyer has an amazing teaching style, and will help you if you ask! His class taught me so much about writing... take this class if you want to LEARN- not get an "easy A".

Really great guy and super adorable. I loved the class and the discussions. I especially liked how he was very upfront and didn't try to make it seem like he knew something when he didn't. His use of a television series was very refreshing and gave a lot of insight in how literature doesn't just have to be written text. Would take him again.

Very relaxed teaching style but challenging class work. Easy to approach with questions (either in his office or email) He admits that the papers are not easy so he never talks down to you if you don't understand something.

Good teacher, some times he needs to have a tad bit more of a back bone to students.

Great variety of texts and writting styles. Who would have expected a tv show in a college lit class? The papers and class discussions make it so you have to read the books (or at least part of them). Rob gives great constructive.

He is a great teacher ! The thing like most about his class is that when you write a paper and turn it in. He looks at it and then will give you a lot of feed back on things you need to change to improve your paper before you turn it in as a final copy.

Great english teacher, however he is extremely biased when it comes to the readings assigned throughout class. You will be forced to read the drivel of radical leftists throughout class void of any objectivity. Despite it being easy to dismantle these leftist arguments, he will never acknowledge the fallacies strewn throughout the readings.

I absolutely love this teacher. He was very helpful to me and alwaysgave me plenty of feed back. I learned alot in his class. He also has a great personality and it doesn't hurt that he's extremely attractive :)

I enjoyed this professor a lot. I tried a different Professor a semester ago and dropped it because they were terrible. I was pleasantly surprised he made the class a pleasurable learning experience. Don't be lazy and do you work. This is college, you do have to read. ALSO English was my worst subject. I learned a lot.

Rob was very helpful and very personable. He is just a regular everyday person who knows how to let loose even though he's a teacher. I enjoyed taking his class even though I do not enjoy english. I am going to take him again for ENG-101. It does not hurt at all that he is very attractive :)

Mr. Mawyer is awesome. He makes the class enjoyable, and is always available to help. The papers can be difficult, but he will thoroughly explain until you get it. I would definitely recommend taking Rob!!

I took English 101 this summer, in summer session two. It was my first college class and I loved Rob Mawyer. He is one of the most helpful, laid back professor/teacher I have dealt with. Definitely recommend him! We write quite a few essays, I thought we were easy, but some others did not. I ended up with a 96% in his class, take this course!

I took him last semester. He was very helpful and he explained the assignment very clearly.

Professor Rob is the best. I loved his class and he makes the class always fun to be in but he calls out people name to talk.. of course, i get panic.. but it's all good. I recommend to take him.

Prof. Mawyer is the real deal. Treats students as adults & expects college level study and application. Not easy to get an A but well worth the effort. Teaches a step by step analysis & writing method that really works. If you're open to it and try hard, he can help set you on the road to writing really well. One of the best teachers at RVC!

The very first instructor I ever had, and by far one of the best! Mr. Mawyer makes sure all instructions are given clearly before submiting every assignment. Very positive at all times, and cares about his students. Very good guy.

Rob is definitely one of my favorite instructors so far. Took the 8 wk summer course and it was pretty easy. Just have to put the work in. Had response papers every week but nothing too major, and NO exams or quizzes. He's super nice and funny. I highly recommend him!

had him about a year ago. but definitely hoping to have him for eng 101. super funny and laid back in a good way. gave me awesome feedback on all of my papers. one of those professors that pushes you for college effort, but gives feedback like a middle school teacher. (good thing) likes people who get involved or else he'll call on you. very funny.

He is a teacher that makes you work for your grade. He expects you to do your best all the time & more. If he tells you to write 4 pages long you better write 4 pages long from top to bottom. If you don't write as mush as expected you get a zero & if no one does the work he will kick the whole class out and no class for that day.

He's a tough grader but he tells you everything you need to know about what is expected. You definitely won't pass if you slack off, he is not naive in any way but he is really funny. Despite his good looks, I barely passed his class because he's a tough grader and knows what he is looking for in a paper. But I'd still take him again.

I had him my first semester of college and I am very glad I did. He does like it when everyone participates and you lose points if you don't. Go to class as much as possible, he has helpful advice for assignments, all you have to do is ask. He is really funny and easy going. Not a very tough grader but you have to put in the work.

He's definitely my favorite teacher so far. He actually cares that we learn something so we can apply it later when we need to. The work is really challenging, but he is so helpful with the information he supplies that you will be capable of writing at a college level and get an A if you work hard for it. Plus, he's just a cool guy all around.

Professor Mawyer is dedicated to his job and wants all his students to succeed. Ask for help and you will get as much as you need. A few papers throughout the semester, but if you come to class and pay attention you will easily come out of this class with an A. Awesome professor who is laid back but also respected by students. Take this class!!!

Just finished a summer class of his- had a portfolio of papers due at the very end which almost snuck up on me. You get the final grade you deserve. I loved him a ton, and I got excited to come to his class. He likes participation and is a great speaker. He said something cool everyday that I wanted to write down.

It's my first semester & I had Mawyer, really great guy. Would reccomend him to anyone who loves english, his class will be easy for you.

He is a very intelligent man, very interesting, and funny during his lectures. He gives a lot of class discussions and those were the only points he gave out other than the 6 papers we had. I think he's an easy grader, very understanding, and gives out knowledgable information. He dresses very stylish and he's very attractive!

DO NOT take him over the summer. I always get A's in English but not with him. You don't know your grade until the end of the semester because your portfolio is worth so much. His lectures were SO BORING and were online AFTER class. He won't help you with your paper via email even though it's a hybrid (HALF ONLINE) course. He's cute & funny though.

A lot of papers which he doesn't grade until end of semester for your portfolio. Only two actual tests, which are mid-term and final. Very funny and gives a lot of class time to work on papers.

Loved this professor, he is a great guy and knows his stuff. Stay on schedule when writing your papers because they are 70% of your grade. He gives great feedback on papers if you ask him. Be open with him and get to know him and you will not be disappointed at all. Participate in the class discussions and it will make the class better for every1.

I think he is an awesome professor! He gave me very specific feedback on all the papers I handed in and was very approachable throughout the whole semester. He does expect student to read and do homework outside of class.

If you get the chance, take Professor Mawyer for this course! He is extremely knowledgable but he's also a really cool person. As long as you stay on top of your work , you will be fine. Do not wait till the last minute to write all of your papers. When you present him with your work, he is willing to help improve your paper

Incredible at giving lectures. You learn so much from real life while having a good amount of laughs. He is very specific on what he wants from you. Continue to ask him questions! You will learn to understand his requirements once he gives his feedback. Don't wait till the last minute!

AMAZING teacher! Would definitely take another class with him. Past all of his papers, fairly easy when it comes to grading. He's always willing to help you during office hours if you ever need extra help.

Maywer is a great professor. Not a lot of homework, mostly assessments and a few big papers.

Hands down the best professor I've ever had. He is a genuine human being and is extremely wise. He encourages real and organic writing, and I've learned how to be a better writer because of him.

Professor Mawyer is, by far, the best professor I've had at Rock Valley. He does have high expectations, but they are reasonable and truly in your best interest as a writer. If you love English and writing about deeply meaningful things, take this class. If you don't love English, take this class anyway because Mawyer will change your mind.

Mawyer is very nice & open minded. I wouldnt say his expectations are high, but he does expect improvement. Use his feedback. He is not a harsh grader at all. His only downfall is that he likes a lot of discussion and repeats himself a lot. Thats a small price to pay though. Take him, youll get a better grade than you would with someone else.

Truly an amazing professor. Lectures are not only interesting, but relevant to everyday life. This is not your average English class. Mawyers lectures almost remind me more of a philosophical class, they really make you think. Hes laid a laid back, funny, and wise professor. Provides great feedback and is always willing to help/ work with you.

If you do your homework you will be fine. Trust me, he is the best professor.

Great professor that truly care about students

This was by far one of the best English classes that I have taken. He does make everybody participate in discussions and lectures but nothing over the top. He topics are interesting and it makes it easier to write your paper. He will go over the paper and help you as much as possible.

He was on of the best professors I ever had. He had some papers to do, but they were easy for English 101. He is funny. I loved his class, and I have him again for English.

Prof. Mawyer is an awesome professor. He is funny and out going. He starts class off with a good attitude. He is a tough grader, but if he knows you can do better than he expects it out of you. Highly recommend!

Professor Mawyer is super friendly and hilarious. He expects his students to improve and does it so we can become better scholars. You participate in a class discussion every time you go over a podcast or an article, and your participation matters but its not like you will fail if you do not participate. Overall highly recommend taking him!

I had Prof. Mawyer over the summer and it was one of the easiest classes I've taken. Of course, I am somewhat of a good writer, but he went very easy on papers I didn't put a ton of effort into. He is also quite funny and I appreciated that.

Professor Mawyer was great and the class was not difficult. Although, in this specific course there was only 5 assignments the whole semester which bothered me. If you messed up on one, you were screwed which I think is unfair. But other then that Professor Mawyer was fun and I learned a lot.

I have had Professor Mawyer for both my ENG 101 and 103 class and I can say that he is a real top tear teacher. I have had both of his classes online but he makes it clear on what you need to do and how to do it. He is very helpful and very willing to give you help. I would recommend for both classes since he really gets you involved in your work.

Hes a very good English teacher. I believe the teacher makes or breaks the course and he was very helpful and made sure I knew what I was doing on the assignments. I wish I couldve had him for my other English classes. Id recommend taking his class. Hes there to help!

Professor Mawyer was great for ENG 101 and 103. I took the classes that took place online in the same semester and he provided lectures online in which you could tell he cared. A great way to knock out your English classes. He provided great feedback on all 3 of my essays for 101 and gives clear instructions and grading material for each essay.

ENG 103 online half-semester with Mawyer consisted on 3 short tests and a research project that I ended up not having to write. Mawyer found just the research portion sufficient and the writing of the essay unnecessary. Got to watch a few movies in the class and overall quick grader with caring feedback.

Professor Mawyer is the best English teacher I've ever had. I took English 103 online with him. He is very willing to help and he really cares about his students. I had very few assignments, the whole semester was pretty much prepping for the final research paper due at the end of the semester. He explains things very well.

He is a professor with a lot of valuable things to teach, so listen to his lectures even if you are usually a person who tunes out. I learned a lot of new things from him that I would not usually expect from a typical English class. He is a pretty easy grader if you try your best and he definitely changed my outlook on many different subjects.

A great English teacher. I wrote the papers and got full points on them even though there were some major errors. Come for workshop and revise then let him proofread he points out what he'd like fixed and will reread as many times as it takes. Optional attendance based on if you need to or not. Assignments are worth 20% and portfolio is worth 80%.

He was suppperrrrr laid back and really easy to approach. I had him for English 101 and 103 and he was great for both.
