Rob is hilarious! He makes lectures very entertaining and they are beneficial to attend for exam purposes. I would recommend taking Intro to Marketing with him. He is truly a great professor! One of the best at Iowa.
Rob is amazing. Best professor I have ever had here. Makes class extremely fun. Not afraid to make a fool of himself/his students. Tests are easy if you read his twitter.
Rob is one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes lectures fun and interesting, which makes coming to class easy. One of the best classes I have ever been in, and I hope I get to take another from him in the future.
The best professor I had at Iowa. He's entertaining, engaging, and passionate about the material and teaching. Lectures are worthwhile and never boring.
He is an all around funny and charismatic guy. Definitely take this class with Rob if you can
Rob was an excellent professor, I would recommend him to anyone taking marketing. I was completely uninterested in marketing before this class, now i love it
Came into this class with no interest in marketing, came out as an excited marketing major all because of Rob. Lecture is FUN and interesting. He uses relevant/interesting examples that draw everyone in, and keeps your attention. Rob gives you life advice, and emphasizes growing as a person from this class more than the material or even your grade.
Rob's one of the best (if not THEE best) professor I have had at Iowa. Take his class and you won't be disappointed. Cares more about personal growth and inspiration rather than marketing itself. Great professor and great guy.
Rob is a great teacher. I was a finance major tell I took his class and now I am a marketing major. He is hands down the best professor I have ever had and he is pretty funny in class too. Take any of his classes he is great.
So funny. Relates class material with personal stories that are extremely entertaining. Jokes around in class alot and cares more about personal growth than memorizing his slides. If you go to lecture and listen you can get As-Bs on Tests easily.
Best professor I've had. Fun, engaging, intelligent.
Rob is one of the best professors I've had. His lectures are hilarious and interesting and he gives great examples. His tests aren't too tough at all -- if you go to class and study a little, you'll probably get an A. He's always willing to help if you have any questions. Would definitely take again! PS - he's also strangely attractive.
Great teacher, took the time to make lectures interesting and fun as well as helpful for exams. Also cares a lot about the students and the processes of learning as opposed to just the grade they receive. Would recommend any class taught by him.
This guy is the best! I aced literally everything there is a midterm a final, you have to complete 3 out of 4 Harvard business case studies, and also participate in online discussion. His lectures are great! you need to take a class from this guy, and if you fail you have no one to blame but yourself.
Best teacher at the University of Iowa HANDS DOWN. Cares about his students and is a real down to Earth guy. Knows what he is talking about and gives excellent examples and stories in class. Show up to class and you will do well. Class is fun and engaging especially with the group project. Best class I have taken at Iowa is Marketing Research.
This guy is the kind of professor i wouldnt mind running into @ a bar downtown. If you don't take a class with this guy you are truly missing out. Funny, yet his material is presented in a way that makes it easy to remeber. One big group project, have to submit 5 out of 7 weekly responses a midterm and a final, this guy is an asset to the U of I!!
I'm a 4th year student who has had a ton of great teachers at Iowa. But Rob is HANDS DOWN the best teacher I've ever had. The man is legitimately hilarious and made night class something I actually looked forward to. The class is easy, with little homework & no exams; but he teaches in a way that actually works and helps you remember the material.
An absolute legend. He makes each class worth it and genuinely cares about what he is teaching so it shows how much effort he actually puts in for his students to learn and take something powerful away from class. He is probably one of the best professors I've had, hands down. Makes class fun and he is super funny. He is real & he is down to Earth.
Rob is probably my favorite professor I've had at Iowa. He genuinely cares about the students and he is passionate about the topic he is teaching. He also gives great, real-life advice on topics that aren't required, like financial advice and health insurance advice. His assignments are useful and I learned a lot from his class.
Rob is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about his students. He gives real-world advice, encourages us to achieve good habits, and is available outside of class. This class is very easy as long as you complete the work on time. HIGHLY recommend taking a course with him!
Rob is hands down the best professor I have ever had in my entire college career. He is caring and passionate. He really care about his students and gives great life advise. Rob honestly changed my life. Take his class! You won't regret it.
10/10 experience. Best professor at Tippie. Not only cares about what he teaches, but genuinely cares about his students. Provides real life advice - financial tips, medical insurance 101s, 401k's, etc. Great, interesting, and useful lectures.
Rob is the BEST Professor to take if you are in Business
There are readings and small assignments but it is doable and as long as you do the work and show up to class it's an easy A. I really enjoyed being in Rob's class, he always came in enthusiastically to class and you can clearly tell he's passionate about teaching.
Rob is an excellent professor and by far my favorite at the University of Iowa. His brain wanders, but I find almost everything he rants about to be useful or at least interesting. Also, he tells a great life story and really pushes students to be their best. If I could go back I would take as many classes from Rob as possible. I'm gonna miss him:(
Honestly of my favorite professors at tippie! Provided great financial/ personal advice at well.
He was absolutely amazing, now I will admit he was a tad bit boring, but the main part of his class was to learn and you will do just that. He makes everything easy to understand and his tests/quizzes are straight from the readings.
No midterms/exams. Weekly discussion posts and quizzes (not proctored). Super easy but informational. He is hilarious in his lectures and weekly update videos. He is super smart and I highly recommend everyone to take this class if they have the option to / for electives - super easy class for senior year.
Rob is truthfully a phenomenal professor who deeply cares about the personal development of his students, if you have the option to take his class, do it. The group project in this class was very experiential, however Rob is vague with most of his instructions (on purpose), and I felt like I didn't learn much new material in this course
Rob rocks!!!! I absolutely love his class! His lectures are super engaging and he has a ton of business experience which shows in his teaching. His exams are really hard for no reason but he does curve. Rob makes the class, would def take again
I took Rob's sales & promotion course this spring (2023). I absolutely loved him. I laugh at the fact somebody gave him a 4, as he deserves all the 5 star ratings he has. If you show up to class, try, and motivate yourself to do well...YOU WILL! He is motivated to help everyone learn. Definitely a great & INSPIRING professor.
Great professor with super entertaining lectures!
Just wanted to give a shout out to Rob's 12 year old daughter who reads these reviews. But in all seriousness, Rob is a great professor who cares about your learning and success in your life.
Great professor! Class is super fun! He saved me from a burning building! My hero!
To Rob's 12 year old daughter reading these, he really is awesome... and kinda attractive.
Rob is my favorite professor I have ever had at Iowa, he not only made me want to go to class but he also made me want to learn the material. Although his tests are really hard, I would take this class again in a heartbeat just because of how good he is as a professor and just a great guy.
Rob absolutely ROCKS!! His class & tests were definitely very hard, but he makes it very fun with entertaining lectures and anecdotes about his own life (hi to Rob's 12 year old daughter:)). He cares about students outside the classroom as much as in, and wants to help us grow in every possible way. Take any class with him, you will NOT regret it!
Rob is the only professor that has actually made me WANT to get out of bed for an 8am class. He keeps it entertaining and has awesome stories. The exams are not that bad (use the Connect questions to study and you'll be fine!) and he gives a generous curve. Definitely one of the best professors I've had throughout college. 12/10 would recommend!
Easily the best professor I have ever had. Guaranteed to make you laugh during every lecture and it is easy to tell that he genuinely cares about his students. Not just about our grades but our overall goals in life and wellbeing. Rob is the best there is.
Rob is the best professor I've ever had. His passion for business is contagious- intro to marketing quickly became my favorite class. He teaches the material well and gives you the resources you need to study for the exams, which are randomly really hard compared to his lax teaching style. He does curve. This class is well worth taking.
Easily the best professor at Iowa. Very few professors show that they care about their students as much as Rob does. He never failed to make the whole class laugh with his personal stories and jokes and I always left his class feeling inspired. He also talks exactly like Owen Wilson which is hilarious once you hear it.
Rob is really funny and engaging. The class itself has a putrid layout, and there is way too much grading criteria. This class is not very difficult to get a good grade in. I got a B- putting in minimal effort and skipping lectures, though I would not recommend this.
Super nice guy, he just gets it. The exams just contained so much information so just get ready to study a lot and work for your grade. If you take marketing with anyone though make sure its with this man.
He is a great professor and makes class very exciting, the exams were pretty hard but there was other ways to bring up your grade.
He is horrendously bad at class management. There is no structure to the class. Some teams get 2 weeks to prepare a presentation and some teams get double that time. He clearly doesn't care and has admitted to look for other jobs.
Rob is such an amazing professor- super funny and engaging. His tests are somewhat hard, but if you go to lectures, take notes (not just from the slides), and do the Pressbooks, you will do well on the tests (I also made quizlets, which definitely helped). I actually look forward to going to his class.
Rob is not a very good professor. I think people like him because he makes jokes? He talks about nonsense and lectures are all over the place. Definitely use the Smartbooks to study for exams and hope you are assigned a good group for the project. There are definitely better professors in Tippie not sure how he has a 5/5 rating lol
Great lecturer, agree with the other comments though not sure how he has 5/5. Only gives out A+s to a few, without clear criteria, and does not use the distribution. The group presentation is setup poorly, and doing very well on it does not get you much of anything other than free labor for the company they are working with.
Rob kept students engaged by telling jokes and hilarious stories. Overall, he is not a great professor. The group project timelines are set up very horrible and my group had to present the week of the exam. Which was very unfair as we had already ha
Rob is a good guy who tells good jokes but he is a terrible professor. He should be teaching a high school class not college.
I thought Rob was one of the more favorable professors that i've had. He's one of the few professors that doesn't shove their liberal views down your throat and actually has a passion for teaching.
Rob is great, but exams are brutal. I wouldn't have gotten an A if he didn't allow cheat-sheets for 2nd and final exam. Exam questions are often pulled word-for-word from the textbook so make sure you read the chapters before the exam. Group project was an easy A, don't know why people complain abt it here.
Rob is bald!
Rob is one of the best professors I've had at Iowa. He cares for his students and always asks how I am coming into class. I actually remember content from his lectures because he incorporates funny stories and examples. I wish I could have Rob for every marketing class!
If you've ever wondered what taking a class with a guy who looks like Uncle Ian from alvin and the chipmunks is like, Rob will give you that experience, and it was pretty great.
Inspired us to be the best version of ourselves everyday.
Looks like Mr. Sark
he is indeed bald
Don't try to hard because he practically gives everyone the same grade- trying hard isn't really encouraged. You can half ass any assignment and will probably get an A or B. He's insanely subjective in his grading and makes no sense, but everyone is within like 2% of each other. Just show up to class and you'll be fine- he just yaps anyways.
Rob thinks he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Very condescending if you ask him about something you don't understand. He tells stories and jokes during class but exams are completely unrelated to lecture and all about the textbooks minus a couple details he pulls from his storis and makes them questions. Take it in the fall not spring.
Easily the best professor I have ever had. Great storyteller and funny too. It is easy to tell that he genuinely cares about his students and pushes us to be better versions of ourselves. Rob is the best!
BALD BALD BALD BALD BALD BALD BALD BALD BALD
bro is INSANELY BALD
Rob is a fantastic lecturer who clearly cares for his students. The concepts are simple but the exams can be tricky(he brags about low exam averages). Lecture/discussion attendance is counted towards grade so if you don't go, your grade will tank. Discussion section is pretty pointless and based on group projects that are completed outside of class
Rob is a professor who not only wants to keep you amused during lecture but also cares about your success. He is a wonderful person and a great teacher. I did however find some of his exam questions to be really difficult, but not necessarily unfair.
He is a horrible professor who is unaware of how to teach. Forced to buy the $55 book, which, if not purchased, costs you 15% of your grade. Also, make you buy Tophat. He should stick to research because just giving students busy work doesn't teach them. Would rather drag my body miles through broken glass than take another one of his classes.
Pay attention in lecture, he WILL ask random questions on exams. Exams are all application. There's a lot of material covered but it isn't necessarily hard. Memorize everything on the study guide, read the book, take notes, DO THE SMARTBOOKS, and make practice quizzes with AI for each chapter. Doing so, exams will not be hard but study early!!!!!!
Rob was great. Do not be intimidated by the other ratings, if you put in the work you will be fine. Group case studies are fairly easy. Exams are hard, but only if you don't know the material. I studied 1 week in advance, memorized the terms, did the smartbooks(which are almost identical to the exams) and made practice exams, and I had no trouble.
It's like if Larry David were a Professor
Very funny guy, great professor. He makes lecture engaging and interesting. The tests however are difficult if you do not pay attention or study. There are smartbooks due for every chapter but not til the exam and a group project within discussion.
Rob is the coolest. Going to his lecture is the highlight of my Tuesdays and Thursdays
Very fun professor, tells engaging stories to help simplify topics in the smartbooks and relate them to real-world events. As long as you show up to the lectures and somewhat pay attention, you'll do fine
Hard class great teacher
Very lecture-heavy. Goes off on tangents about silly stories that aren't relevant to the course. Exams aren't bad, homework is moderate, discussions are chill, and lectures feel like they take forever. Be prepared for questions on the exam that are completely off topic from the marketing subject.
Rob is funny and makes lectures engaging through stories. If you show up and pay the slightest bit of attention to his lectures an A or B is easy to get.
Rob is a great professor who's clearly passionate about what he teaches. He has a no-phone policy, but it's easy to follow—only those glued to their phones will struggle with it and complain. The exams can be tough, but once you find a good study method, you'll be fine. Overall, I really enjoyed the class and his lecture style.
It's no secret Rob is one of the most well loved and respected professors at Iowa, and for good reason! The content is interesting, the lectures engaging, and overall the man is just a genuinely hilarious guy who really loves his students. Would take this class again and again!!
Best professor at Iowa
Rob is BY FAR the best professor you will have at Iowa. He truly cares about his students- it is the only lecture that I am excited to attend and learn from. The exams are hard, but if you show up in lecture, pay attention, and give it your best you should have no problem passing and succeeding in his course. I could not recommend enough!
Amazing guy. Lecture was engaging, need to go to lecture exams are all lecture based. Would recommend to study rewatch lectures does a great job emphasizing what will be on exam. Cares about his students. By far my favorite business class I have taken at Iowa. Group projects were engaging. Overall go to lecture and you will do fine in this class
This is a tough class. Rob did his best to make it not as such. Lectures are very engaging and he is clearly very knowledgable and passionate about what he does. The group you are paired with is essential in your grade for the class. Lots of studying needed for the exams. Overall, good guy and solid class.
I loved Rob's class! I looked forward to lectures and sometimes was the only reason why I got up to go my classes that day. He's incredibly funny and it's clear he cares about his students a lot. He brought in successful guess speakers, gave a lecture on his tips for success, and always tries to keep lectures engaging.
Attendance is required even though the lectures are just him telling random stories that don't connect to the exams. I learned more from the McGraw Hill smartbooks, which are required, than I did from the lectures except for the random facts that aren't related to marketing that he puts on the exam and you have to be in class to get.
Among the best professors you can find in Tippie. I rarely pay attention in my other lectures, but Rob is hilarious, and he always finds new ways to grab your attention while actually teaching about the course content. The exams are difficult. Only professor I've seen the class give a standing ovation on the last day. Highly recommend. Top 3.
Yea so Rob decided to tell everyone they would get a 4% curve and on the last day changed it to 5%
Rob is a bit of a dbag, but he is a great lecturer and cares very much about the material he teaches and the students he's lecturing. So long as you can get past his persona he puts on during class, you will find his assignments and exams straightforward and easy to do well on. Anyone claiming this class is difficult did not study or pay attention.
