Great prof!
Extremely nice and easy to talk to. Lectures can be boring, but get invovled and make it fun. Has a good sense of humour. Exams are case studies, and are easy. Know the main concepts, don't study definitions.
Of the five courses I was taking he was the most down to earth person. 1/5 of class time was talking and socializing. Enjoyable aspect for a long night class.
rob is one of the best teachers i have ever had
Awsome awsome teacher. He knows his stuff, has a very dry sense of humour but is more than willing to help you through the rough spots. I'm taking six classes and this has to be one of my favourites. I considered switching from accounting to finance major just b/c of rob.
Really nice guy, very helpful, and really knows his stuff. Always trys to make things easier for everyone.
I would definately recommend Rob. His lectures are clear and tests directly relate to material covered in class and homework. He gives clear notes and is avaliable to help when needed. Good sence of humor which keeps the class interested.
Great teacher! He definitely made difficult finance concepts clear. I would highly recommend him to anyone!
Rob has been the best prof i've had. His lectures are interesting, he makes class fun and he's a fair marker. If you need help he's the one to go to, even if it's not for his class. Highly recommend him, and wish he could teach all my classes.

His lectures are boring as hell.. talks so quietly that sometimes hard follow. Use lot of power point slides. Besides teaching, he is a nice guy.
Rob is a very good teacher. He knows his stuff, is helpful, and is always willing to chat or answer questions. I would have preferred if he could keep everyone a little more on task because people would talk over him which made it difficult to follow the class. Overall: A little quiet, but goes out of his way to make the information relevant.
Your have to learn yourself. His style of teaching is DULL.
Rob is a great guy! I never knew that finance could be so much fun until I met him! Keep up the good work Rob!
Great guy, too bad this class was awful; he really enjoyed the material but it was hard for him to keep the class interested in such a boring topic. Rob is super quiet and way too nice to get at people for not paying attention; people were incredibly rude and distracting with all of their emailing/surfing during class and Rob rarely said anything.
Really good instructor - really makes things clear and cares about the students.
Rob is one of the best profs I've ever had. He has an amazing sense of humor and actually makes class interesting. I never even knew what Finance was about before I took his class and now I'm majoring in it.
I did not do very well in his class, but I think he is a fantastic teacher. Totally recommended.
Is a great teacher and a genuine person
Rob is so funny and entertaining. He makes statistics class fun. He knows his stuff and is an excellent teacher. Exams are fair, and you get to bring a formula sheet! Great guy, and I would love to take more of his classes.
Very helpful teacher. He takes his time to make sure everybody understands and if you are still having trouble he is willing to stick around and help you out. The only problem that I found with him is that his teaching style is boring and I constantly found myself falling asleep
Rob is a terrific teacher for BUS 141. Very Helpful, fair marker and makes this course entertaining. There are a lot assignments however he takes the best 5, same with quizes. Only downside is the final is worth 40%.
nice guy great teacher the top make on the final was 75% which is a bit much i thought he marked the final far to hard.
Very helpful and keeps the class entertaining by cracking jokes. He will go out of his way to help you and make sure you understand the course material.
I don't know how anyone could find him boring. He is one of the most entertaining, funny professors I have had. I wish he taught Bus231 as well - because my Bus231 teacher sucked compared to Rob, who I had for BUS230.
One of my favorite professors ever. He was great at teaching Finance. If you get a chance to get him, you'll like him. Always will answer any questions you have and try and give you support in an area you having trouble in. Really enjoyed the semester with him and looking forward to his Bus 141 class next semester.
Rob is fantastic. He truly cares about the welfare of his students, and their understanding of finance. He checks along the way to see who is struggling with the material. He lets students catch up in note taking without embarassment by chatting about random topics with the rest of the class. There's no rushing in his classes! Rob = a class act!
Rob is a great teacher. He will give you all the help you request from him in order for you to be successful in a course that is not the most popular. He breaks up the dry class material by cracking jokes and telling stories. As long as you put the time into the class you will do ok. Unfortunately, almost all of your marks are allocated from exams.
Awesome dry wit - endless supply of funny stories from past jobs. Amazing guy. I've heard that other teachers teach you how to do the work on the calculator, but Rob makes sure that you know how to actually do it without the financial calculator functions which I found helpful (and meant I didn't have to buy a new calculator). Definitely recommend!
Rob was the best teacher I have ever had. Funny, smart, and very helpful.
Truly one of the best instructors I have ever had. Takes the time to teach and ensure all of the students are understanding the material. Cracks jokes to keep the class interesting. If you have to take Finance choose Rob.
Really great, helpful teacher... had a fun time!
You need to put the effort in, though one of the best teachers I've had. Always helpful.
Rob is extremely helpful and he wants you to succeed. Some of the material was tough and there was a lot to cover but overall a great class.
most overated teacher at the school
One of the best teachers that I have ever had. He takes time to explain complicated concepts and makes them easy to understand. If you have problems he takes the time to explain things. He wants you to do well. If you put effort into the class you will do well.
ROB IS THE MAN, best teacher ive ever had.
Statistics...a very challenging course for many. I had Rob for FIN 110 as well and jumped at the opportunity to take another class with him. It doesn't matter how complicated the subject material is, he can always explain it in a way that makes it seem simple. Through in the dry wit and you have a great instructor. Exams are not full of tricks.
Rob is an excellent instructor. He is very organized and always prepared. One of my favorites.
Rob is a very talented teacher capable of making the fundamentals of finance very easy to understand. His approach to teaching is quite laid back but is constantly on beat with his lessons. If you have a chance take any of his courses!
Rob is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He makes sure everyone in the rooom understands the material before moving along, and graciously accepts questions and usually explains them in a way the student can understand. I'm very lucky to have him and hope I can get a couple classes with him next semester!
This was my second attempt at this class but Rob's clear explanations not only got me through, they got me a really good mark. He'll help you rearrange formulas and is always available for extra help. He even let us redo our quizzes near the end of the course to improve our marks. Exam wasn't super easy but both questions and marking were fair.
WOW! What a guy! So humble, so kind, fair, logic explanations and breaks down a quite complex subject to an easy to understand way of dealing and solving the problems. I would love to take more of Rob's classes!
Too embarrassed to tell him that I rearranged my entire schedule this semester just to have him teach one of my classes again. He's amazing, understanding, funny and makes class so interesting! He really tries to make sure you understand the content, and he sincerely wants to see everyone succeed. I am inclined to believe he's the best at camosun.
Belittled students in front of the class. Myself and others felt uncomfortable asking him questions as we were not the "Favorites" in his class and thus he was rude to us. I do not recommend and do not see how how anyone would recommend him. Talks too quiet and does not have clear lectures.
Really great teacher. Finance is not all that interesting and Rob makes this manditory course easy to grasp and enjoyable to attend lectures. Bravo.
Great teacher funny, keeps the class interesting and offers lots of out of class help for students in need. Does talk a little on the quiet side sometimes but just sit at the front.
Great teacher! Would definitely recommend him to anyone. He makes Finance easy to learn and an hour and fifty minutes just fly by. Anyone that wants to do well he will most certainly put the time in to help you out. Fantastic man.
Great teacher! Would definitely recommend him to anyone. He makes Finance easy to learn and an hour and fifty minutes just fly by. Anyone that wants to do well he will most certainly put the time in to help you out. Fantastic man.
Rob is very good at explaining things. He knows exactly what he is talking about and is more than willing to help anyone if they are stuck on something. I would definitely recommend him to anyone thinking about taking a finance course.
Absolutely fantastic man. He is extremely personable, funny, and interesting. I looked forward to my Finance classes and learning from him. He uses the projector which makes everything very clear and understandable. I will take classes simply because he is teaching them in the future. Favourite teacher by far.
Great instructor, very helpful, but not enough preparation for exams, showing up for the review day is a waste of time unless you have questions prepared, he has no review sessions planned. Also final is worth 40% and no marks for attendance.
he is very unhelpful, hard marker and he never tried to communicate with his students.
First of all, disregard any bad comments about Rob. He is one of the most amazing teachers you will ever have. Here's the catch though, show up to class. Unbelievable I know. He breaks down all course material, he takes his time ensuring you understand the material before moving on, giving you plenty time to grasp it. I wish he taught more classes!
Don't believe the hype. Good class for slow people. Goes off topic. If your time is valued stay away. If your parents pay for college, enjoy.
Rob is an amazing teacher! The catch is though (like with most classes) you need attend class! What a surprise! He is so helpful and really takes the time to help you understand. I did not do any homework in this class and received an A+. He really knows what he's doing! Best FIN 110 teacher by far!
Rob is amazing. He is extremely well-versed in everything he teaches, and has further knowledge from personal experience. He takes the time for students to understand and is extremely helpful. He teaches a very clear and concise course and I highly recommend taking his classes. He is hilarious and intelligent. One of the BEST teachers at Camosun!
Overrated. low tone makes class sleepy and boring. A completely different style of teaching makes it confusing. He prefers teaching the harder stuff. However, He's a very nice guy on the communication level.
Rob is an awesome teacher, a finance genius, and a very kind man. He lays everything out very clearly along the way and gives students PLENTY of opportunity to ask for help. D2L quizzes DO help! He genuinely cares about his students and it shows. He makes a tough subject a lot easier and more enjoyable to get through. Great sense of humor too!
Rob is fantastic. Has probably the best sense of humor of any prof I've had. Makes Finance fun and easy to learn, and it's not an easy subject. He has great stories, and relates material and concepts to real life concepts students can relate to. Its just too bad he doesn't teach higher level courses. I'd like to have him again. Get Rob for 110.
Rob was probably the best teacher i have ever had. while doing finance i was intimidated because i struggle in math but Rob was 100% there for me. would answer my emails when i had questions doing homework right away so i knew what i was doing wrong and would always stay after class to help
Attending class is pretty important to keep up. Doesn't try to trick you on exams although you might be crunched for time if like to double-check your work. Makes himself extremely available to help students out during class, in office hours and pretty much anytime. Pretty funny guy too, would take again.
He is so boring. So annoying. Gives stupid marks. Horrible time.
Rob knows his stuff. For me, his style was perfect for how I learn. Clear lectures, fair tests/exams. Uses his own examples, so the text was only useful for learning your financial calculator, (which he shows you anyway,) and practise problems, but his online quizzes were great practice. I'm baffled at the negative comments. Highly recommend!
Awesome teacher with good skills :)
Rob is a great teacher and although the course work may seem tough, he's eager to help and really does want you to get a good grade. He always kept the students interested and made jokes along the way. Pretty nice marker and tests are well laid out and only stick to what he taught in class.
Noone can be better that Rob in FIN 110. Overall grade : Best of the bestest
Rob is a great guy and tries his best to make sure everyone is following along in class. He's a fair marker and really wants his students to do well. I've never gone to see him for extra help although he makes a point of reminding students of his availability if they need any help. I've had him for several classes and he's great
I was terrified for Stats and Rob made it seam so simple! Take advantage of office hours as hes more then willing to help. His exams are tough but are based completely on what we covered in class. He gives a lot of exam hints in class as well. Overall a great professor who truly cares if you understand the material.. a refreshing change
Always very happy, and making jokes. He knows a lot about finance. always has test/assignments marked quickly, usually by the next class. Cares about the success of his students and is very clear about what material will be on test.
This was my second class with Rob. I went out of my way to make sure I had him again. He is helpful, understanding and overall a great teacher. His lectures and powerpoints are clear. He keeps the class engaged. Really great guy.
I don't have so many words to say about this Professor. He is the BEST of the Best. I have never met a Professor like him in my entire life. He is very helpful and positive. He is not just the Perfect Professor but also a great person.
hands down, best instructor at Camosun. he genuinely cares about you learning the material properly, and makes sure to be available if you need any help. he's very thorough with his test and final preparations. I absolutely loved him and his class. I would definitely recommend taking any class required, taught by him. you won't regret it.
Rob was super helpful throughout the whole course. You can tell he really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He was approachable and always ready to answer emails. Tests were not meant to trick you and if your studied were pretty easy.
This class is a lot of work for what it's worth. Only taking because it is a prereq. for CPA. There are tons of long assignments which don't always pertain to the course. Some take 2-3 hours, and I didn't learn a thing. Also he randomly selects a few for marks because marking them all would probably take too long. Waste of time, avoid if you can.
Really good teacher, very calm and guiding, really recommended...
Ive had Rob before for FIN110, he was great, so I opted for him again for Bus241. This course was more demanding and time consuming than core courses. It was infuriating to produce assignments for every class only to have them randomly marked and to receive no credit/feedback on other assignments of equal or greater effort. NOT WORTH THE WORK!
Rob seems like a nice guy, but he was pretty bad at teaching this course. Not helpful during office hours, and very heavy on homework, with only a random amount (at his discretion) getting marked. Find someone else if you are going to take this course. Spends a lot of the class talking about himself.
Rob is awesome, he is such a nice guy, cracks jokes that lighten up class time and great teacher. Best teacher at Camosun. His lectures are good and exams/quizzes are clear. Highly recommend his FIN110 class, great introduction to finance. 100% take his class.
I really enjoyed Fin110 with Rob, I would happily take a Fin course with him again which says a lot considering I am a Marketing Major. He is always just an email away if you need help, & is always more than happy to have you stop by his office for extra help as well. I failed Acct. 110 but did very well in this course & would credit it to robs lec
Rob really takes the time to make sure students understand the material. Make sure you have a solid understanding of the material early on as it carries on throughout the course and final exam.
"Rob seems like a nice guy, but he was pretty bad at teaching this course. Not helpful during office hours, and very heavy on homework, with only a random amount (at his discretion) getting marked. Find someone else if you are going to take this course. Spends a lot of the class talking about himself. " I am totally agree with this common.
Super friendly, thoroughly explains material and prepares you for midterms well
As someone who didn't really enjoy math in high school I wasn't excited for Finance, however Rob soon made it my favourite class. Rob's subtle humour and great lectures made the class great. He can move a little quickly at times but is more than willing to help you understand after class or during breaks etc. 10/10 instructor.
SUCH a nice teacher! He really cares about his students. He also teaches in a very consistent and clear manner. Every week is set up the same, you check d2l for the weekly content, attend the lecture if you want (theyre not mandatory), and take the weekly quiz. Very straight forward and hes always open to meeting with you outside class hours.
Organized and gives you all the tools you need to succeed. Like any math heavy course, don't expect to do well if you don't bother to do any practice work. But if you watch his video lectures and try all the practice work he points you to (the textbook is excellent for this course) you'll be fine. Weekly quizzes help you make sure you understand
His lectures posted on D2L were well organized and consistent. He was available to provide feedbacks and help when needed. Would take another class with him again!
Great professor. He has YouTube videos which are very clear and easy to follow. His content is also very clear and easy to go through. If you are taking FIN-110 I would definitely recommend taking his class.
Great professor, awesome easy to understand lectures. Will definitely take again for future finance courses.
Rob created very easy lectures on Youtube. You should buy a calculator for this course, but it will ease your learning process so much, so dont refuse to buy it. The first part of the course is the hardest one, after the midterm you will use the TI calculator and things will become easy :) You should know math and have good logic for this course.
Rob is very friendly guy and seems to genuinely want his students to succeed. His online content is great and he always sets clear expectations for assignments and deadlines. One of the best instructors at Camosun for sure.
This course has a pretty heavy workload for a 2nd year course. The material was boring and his lectures were very dull and dry. Easy enough class with some effort but wouldn't recommend. Rob takes a long time to grade his weekly assignments.
Wasn't the most interesting class for me, but easy enough. Just follow the directions and you will do fine. Exams are closed book so require decent studying but pretty straightforward. Weekly short assignments, but they aren't too difficult, and I found he was a fair and easy grader.
Rob was a great instructor! You could tell he cared about he students, and wanted them to succeed. He was great at responding to questions via email, he was fast to reply and would help you figure it out by getting to the root of your questions so that you had a full understanding. His lectures were short and got right to the point.
Final is worth 40%, the other 2 midterms combined are worth 40%, and the last 20% is purely based on weekly exercises that do not help with the exams. Memorize the etext quizzes and Quizlet. I don't think he actually understands this course, which explains the use of the etext question bank for exams.
I have taken 2 courses with Rob, and I absolutely love his classes. He is a great teacher, so knowledgeable, has lots of real world experience and is very kind. He is also very quick to respond to emails and make himself available to students when they need extra support. I would recommend him as a teacher.
If you see Rob Sorenson is teaching a class you need to take then don't hesitate. He is a great teacher. He answers emails right away and will keep emailing you until you understand. His videos have a Bob Ross quality to them that I greatly appreciated!
Rob is so wonderful. I am very much not a math person, and struggled with this course, but Rob is so caring, and helpful. If you put the work into this class you will do well. His lectures were a pleasure to watch, and Rob has a calming presence. I would take more of his classes if my degree plan requires it! Highly recommend Rob
Rob is by far one of the best professors I've had. He is charismatic & energetic making every class enjoyable even when the content might be confusing. Open to questions, never makes you feel stupid for not understanding, and overall is the prime example of what a professor should be. If I could copy and paste him for every subject I would. 10/10.
As a student who has taken this particular course three times and had a difficult time understanding the concepts.Rob makes it clear.I also practiced a lot and hired a tutor so it definitely helped.Great sense of humour in a dry topic for most.I would highly recommend to anyone who struggles in math.
I loved taking Rob's class! His lectures are super clear and he's so patient with questions and reviewing materials; as long as you pay attention and do the work it would be difficult to fail this course. You can really tell he cares about his students and their success in his class.
Robert takes this mickey mouse course way more seriously than what it is to the point it becomes infuriating. Video lectures are painful to watch. The assignments are extremely lengthy - usually consisting of multiple parts, tedious and SO boring to do, and you will have one every single week. Said assignments also have nothing to do with business
As a lecturer, I find Rob is quite good- he is very clear and has good examples to back up concepts that he discusses. However, homework expectations are an issue. Imagine my frustration when I'm taking several hours to complete certain assignments, only to receive a short response for feedback and then a piddly 4% completion mark for my trouble.
I chose this class as an elective, little did I know that it would end up being more work than any of my 4th year accounting courses. Arguably one of the worst classes I have ever taken at Camosun, the first weekly assignment is a 5-page paper worth 4%. He doesn't even mark them, just tosses a grade down. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COURSE.
I heard that he was a great finance prof but, he is a terrible prof for 241. His homework takes FOREVER to take and you have to look up the answers because he doesn't go over it in his lectures. His exams are confusing and they're from the textbook. You really have to read the textbook if you want to pass his exams since he wont go over it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS TEACHER! The weekly assignments are extremely lengthy (3-5 pages!) and the material provided is not nearly enough to complete them properly. This is one of the worst classes I have taken at Camosun and I have been here for 4 years. Not worth your time or money.
Rob was the reason I enjoyed this class.
As a student, I expect exams to reflect the content and skills that were taught and practiced in class. the exams are too difficult as compare to the teaching material. I will never advise to take his class. as in my finals, I asked my friend for the material from the other instructor and that's how I was able too pass final.
One of the driest classes ever with unbelievably painful assignments. He goes through everything in the slides extremely slow (although in very little detail) and then expects you to do in-depth, multi-page assignments every week. Take any other course
Rob really cares about his students. He really wants everyone to succeed and tries his best to encourage you. Class can be boring sometimes but he makes a lot of math jokes and has some good stories. Attendance wasn't mandatory but he goes through a lot more examples in class than what is posted online.
