I really like his lectures and he keeps me very intersted. GO BLUE!!!!
He's awesome. Not boring, keeps you interested, lets the students talk. Gives random free points for attendance, quizzes are from the readings, tests are easy with a lil bit of studying. Usually get out at least 5 mins early. Great professor, ill def. try and take him for 102!!
Van Egen is one of the best GNED teachers at LU. He is extremely funny and loves when we get involved with his lectures during class. Come 2 class get an A simple as that. Im just glad that he doesnt teach the way his teams plays...lol Go Blue! You will love this class I recommend him to everyone!
van engen is my favorite teacher byfar. his class is easy and very enjoyable.
This dud is excellent. I look forward to going to his class every MWF after convo. He is so funny and Christ-centered. Take his class. You'll enjoy it!
Easiest Gned teacher. Great sense of humor and has lots of stories to tell.
This prof is wonderful. Great sense of humor, loves his family and does a great job explaining everything we go over. I can't say GO Blue I prefer the BUCKS baby!!!! But he knows I still love his class.
This guy is amazing!!!
Great teacher. Actually said hi to me by name when i'd see him in the hallways. and FINALLY a teacher who knows that NO ONE wants to be in GNED, and tries to make it as painless as possible.
I love Professor Rob!!! His classes are interesting and entertaining. Easy class, as long as you keep up with the work, which is minimal. I had talked to him briefly only perhaps once and he recognized me in the hall. Very friendly and cares about his students. Highly recommended.
Professor Van Engen is pretty much one of the greatest professors at liberty. NO LIE! I mean considering everyone HAS to take GNED and the majority of the people dont' want to HE MADE IT FUNNN!! His tests weren't the easiest but low grades on them don't hurt u. and the final was OPEN BOOOOOK!
I recommend him over Gibson. Even tho I agree w/ most of what he taught, I think his arguements were really weak. The class is pretty easy but he didn't teach me very much. Over all his class is entertaining but if u are interested in really learning how to give solid answers to non-believers about "contemporary issues" then consider someone else.
he's the man. easy class. need to go to class because of attendence quizes, but class is fun. best gned prof hands down
Nice guy. I personally liked him. He tends to let you out of class early. He likes open book tests, which is great.
Best teacher I had my entire first year at LU and that kid that said he didnt learn much is full of it you learn a ton in Van Engens class. He is a funny guy and really tries to talk to his students and get to know them and for a class that size that a pretty big act to do, TAKE HIM!
van Engen is a great teacher! He's a lot of fun and full of energy! I enjoyed his class!
gned is a pretty boring class but there is really no way to get out of it so take van engen. he makes it funny at least by the random weird things he does. its not too bad i just think the class is pointless. i would definitely recommend him though.
he's a really good speaker
He made class really fun and it was an easy class. He would joke around and was not strict on attendance. I would recommend that everyone take him for both GNEDs.
Easy class...I liked Professor Van Engen. He realizes that it's just GNED so there's not really any work outside of class which is nice. He's one of the best and easiest for the class, I'm definitely taking him again next semester.
TAKE VAN ENGEN!! He's awesome, hilarious, and pretty much one of the coolest teachers I've taken at this University. He made us think, we learned a lot, and he cracked us up every single class. He's fun and fairly easy. There's hardly any outside class work, and he works really hard to make sure everyone passes. AMAZING!!
He's the best!
Van Engen is hands down the funniest prof I've ever had. He has no control over the class and is not very strict. I have not learned much at all in his class so far since I already was familiar with a lot of the material. He gives the answers for the quizzes and the tests are a joke. However, if you want an easy A, take him. He is very entertaining
He is a great teacher. His class is a lot of fun, and you really learn important information that will help you make decisions later on in life! If you get a chance you should take him.
Annoying as crap. He stretches all of his s's out on purpose like he's hissing or something and talks like he's teaching a bunch of little kids. And then there's all of the dumb videos and telling us about his wife and current diet. Easy class though, you don't really have to do the reading to do well. This class was a waste of time.
This teacher is fun and loves to joke. He grades and tests hard, so study! There are pop quizes and also he gives away quizes...its pretty funny how he does it but hey free grade. He also allows extra credit. Take him!
The best GNED guy to get. His classes fill up quick because he is the one you want to take. Mad easy, funny, and lots of extra credit oppotunity.
Mr. Van Engen keeps the class entertained, but also helps us develop a Christian worldview.
Best GNED teacher at Liberty!!! He makes class really interesting, especially when he walks on the student's desks and calls someone's Mom in class! Very funny! Take the Monday night class. Its only 2 hours instead of 3. Show up to class for attendance quizzes! Sometimes the reading quiz can be tricky, but easy A! Very Godly man, cares for students
He is awesome he gives away some quizes, but the tests are based completly on what you know. Also, he ends class early at night. So commuters can go home. His style is funny, wears suits, cool hair, easy going, not argumentative, treats you like a president, and is always loving. He likes to hear about students lives. Take him - extra credit opps
Van Engen Is Rocking!! He is Hilarious, makes class fun, and you also learn alot.
GNED is a worthless class. Van Engen only makes it worse. He understands nothing of what he is saying and his words disgrace philosophy. He does make lots of poor jokes, so if you are looking for some cheap laughs and an easy A, sure, take him. If you want to learn take someone whose actually read one of the books they reference.
i loathe this class with a passion. i understand the importance of developing critical thinking in students, however a thinker should eventually be able to formulate educated responses. which is something he cannot do. you ask him an actual question and he calls it irrelevant or illogical.
Best GNED teacher at liberty, super easy and so many extra credit or free quizes its crazy. Take him for your GNED.
He is a very good teacher for GNED. He keeps every class entertaining. The quizzes are not that hard as long as you read the articles and he gives a lot of extra credit to eliminate your lowest quiz grades and sometimes he just throws some of the quizzes out. The tests are easy and the final he gave the test and you only had to find the answers.
A very funny and engaging professor, I highly recommend him! His quizzes are all True & False and if you've read the article you should be fine. (He also throws in lots of extra credit and sometimes just gives you the answers) Do some studying for his exams (which are cumulative) and you'll pass with an easy A.
Great Prof! Take him for GNED, he is super easy and all of his quizes are true and false. Super nice guy and cares about you...2 thumbs wayyyyyy up
Professor Rob is the BEST teacher ever! he's hilarious and definitely keeps you interested! im glad i took his class and wishes he would teach more than GNED! if you're wondering wether you should take his class or not... DO IT! you won't regret it.. unless, you despise laughing, learning things, and talking about food...
He's GREAT! Professor Rob is so much fun in class. He's very intelligent and knowledgeable too. Very easy to get a good grade as well, which is always good.
Professor Rob loves Michigan Football, Oreo`s, Meatloaf Sandwiches and his class
He is hilarious, and unpredictable. Everyone should take him for a class at least once.
Great teaching and fun class!
I actually did not like Van Engen. I thought he was very unprofessional at times and did not make the class that interesting. Its a very simple course but class was boring because all he did was read articles to us, which I could do on my own without paying him to do it for me. Tries too hard to be the "cool" "fun" teacher.
He's okay. Wastes a fair amount of time talking about subjects when he could move on and let class out a little early.
Van Engen is a wonderful professor. He knows how to keep your attention. The class is extremely easy. Just use the study guide he gives you and the test will be easy. Make sure you also do the online reading, b/c there is usually a quiz every class on it. He also gives extra credit quizzes.
great teacher very interesting
Rob is easily my favorite prof at LU. It isn't just because we have a lot of the same interests (Michigan football), but his class is so interactive. He gets off topic easily, but in a way that you are still learning about something at least. If you can, take his monday night class. It is supposed to be 3 hours, you get out after 2. best class ever
He was the best teacher for GNED 101. Please take, really. Not hard at all. You will really enjoy his style. Plus, he has been a pastor before, so you know he's got to be cool!
Van Engen is one of the best GNED profs. you will find at LU. Clear, helpful, and even humorous at times. He's not the easiest GNED teacher, but you could do worse for yourself. Highly rec.
This guy is awesome. The course is rather boring, but he makes class fun. Lots of interaction with the class, very funny, very thought-provoking and is not close-minded like most of the GNED profs. His class is actually rather easy, but you will learn so much. I highly recommend taking him, one of my best profs last semester.
great teacher. Makes the class as interesting as it can be. He is very entertaining and is extremely easy.
Consider yourself retarded if you can't get an A in the course. Very funny and also very intelligent. Bit of a sleeper though 0_o
It is a super easy class but not worth my money. Don't take this class if you actually want to learn anything. He gets to invloved in his "demonsrtations".
Mr. Rob is an awesome man. He clearly presents facts in a way that is understandable to students. He also is an amazing runner so make sure you take the class in Towns Auditorium so you can see him run up and down the isles.
the crazy GNED professor. Easy A
Van Engen is the best GNED professor there is. He interacts amazingly with the students and keeps them engaged. He is reasonable when it comes to absences and missed homework, and knows many of the students by name. Take him. He's not very hard, but you still learn and find yourself engaged with the topic.
He has to be the easiest GNED professor in the school. Because I've been learning about worldview all my life, I can't say that I learned anything in his class. I think he's too chaotic and dramatic, but that's GNED, I suppose.
Awesome professor! Very funny and very good at his job. Probably the best GNED teacher on campus.
Apart from this class being the biggest waste of time in the WORLD - this teacher was beyond horrible! He tries SO very hard to be "cool" and fails miserably! What's the most pathetic though is that so many students think he is just great. Typical of Liberty kids though.
Robert Van Engen runs easy courses, but do NOT attempt to wing the tests! Its very tempting, considering the fact that you memorize the information by osmosis, but with Van Engen it is likely to be the difference between a letter grade. (Warning: Finals are his most difficult tests!!!)
This professor is a goofball. He makes illogical comments in class and if anyone questions what he says he will simply tell them that they are wrong. Many of his theories about the Bible are just ridiculous, but he tells them to his class like they are fact. This class is not hard, but it's very boring and pointless.
I would suggest taking him because he is the most interesting GNED professor, however, the person who said that he always says that your argument is wrong is completely right! You can not fight against this guy because he always wants to be right and sometimes it is annoying. But he is easy and the most fun so I would suggest him
His class is never boring! Hes a fun guy and he likes to keep things interesting as much as he can. The answer to everytihng is "Jesus"! I recommend him to everyone!
He is great professor. This is a very relaxed class and he does a great job interacting with his students and keeping them entertained! Its not possible to fail this class, NOT AT ALL! There is a lot of extra credit opportunities so there is no reason why EVERYONE shouldnt get an A! He is absolutely awesome. GO BLUE!!!!! Goroma
If you are an intelligent college student, do NOT take Van Engen. My friends recommended me to him because he's easy, but I honestly didn't learn anything new this whole semester. The class was once a week and 2 hours long and I DREADED it. Incredibly boring. If you like stimulating your mind, DON'T take Van Engen.
Mr. Van Engen never taught that a microphone was invented so people didn't have to yell in order to be heard. Prepare your ears for two hours of non-stop yelling. If you want an A, take this class and make sure you have someone to suffer with or something else to do. His G.A. teaches better than him.
Prof Van Engen is the best GNED professor. He is fun and tries to keep the class lively. I took him once a week on Thursday nights for 2 hours and he did an excellent job! I'd recommend him to anyone. If you read for the quizzes and study for the exams, you WILL get an A.
Great professor! I take a once a week night class which is supposed to last for 3 hours but usually only like an hour and a half with him. Its never ever boring and always funny!
Nothing against Van Engen, but I absolutely hated this class. The whole concept of GNED is terrible...What's a worldview? How to be a critical thinker? C'mon now...I don't need to waste my time "learning" that. But it's mandatory, so I'd recommend taking him b/c you just gotta pick ur poison, so Id recommend him b/c he's actually entertaining.
Give him oreos,,,, LOTS OF OREOS, I guarantee you will pass,, or at least be worshipped by VanEngen for about 5 seconds. He is an awesome teacher, take him, and Im serious about the Oreos,
He is such a funny professor and made our long late-night class fly by. I've heard all the GNED profs are good, but I will only ever take Van Engen!
Take him!!!!!!!! You will never be 1) bored, 2) over-worked. It's hard not to pass this class, but you still need to do the reading assignments b/c he gives you a quiz on them every week. Easy if you read. He always gives study guides b/4 tests, so fill them out & you will do well. Taking 102 with him next semester & looking forward to it.
Great Professor! Makes the class time very enjoyable.
Easiest class ever! Funny and Crazzy. had friends sit in class even though they wern't in it!
The material is a bit offensive so brace yourself for that. Also you should take this with some friends you can sit with to make it bearable.
Ridiculously easy class, so much so that it's almost insulting. Van Engen is an awesome professor though - very funny and engaging. From what I've heard and experienced, he is the best of the GNED professors.
This class is incredibly easy, but beware, if you slack off or miss enough attendance what was easy at first can quickly become difficult (at least, if you were going for an A, which, for this class you have a very easy shot at). Professor Van Engen is fantastic, and out of all the GNED professors he's the best. Great discussion and adores Oreos.
Dr. Van Engen is by far my favorite professor! He is absolutely hilarious! And he keeps you very interested. His tests aren't super hard, but he is very strict on attendance. The only down side is that there are quite a few quizzes, but if you read what you're supposed to then they arent that bad. I highly recommend him!
You have to take this class....and i know "worldview" is a boring topic- but TAKE VANENGAN! He's funny and makes class bearable. Easy easy quizzes- but the tests are kinda hard, so study alot. But otherwise, he's super funny and entertaining.
He is the funniest teacher I've ever had! All of my classmates (about 400 students) signed up for the 102 course with him.
He's a hilarious guy, always joking around, really personable. He even memorized everyone's names based off our pictures :) his quiz questions are worded a little weirdly sometimes, and his tests get harder as you go along. However, I'd definitely recommend him as a teacher.
This teacher was highly illogical. Numerous times in every class I would catch logical fallacies, which is very bad for this course since the 101 of this course teaches about logical fallacies. I've been to the other BWVW teacher's classes, and if you want a great teacher then take Matthews or maybe weider.
Van Engen is a great professor. He is really clear in teaching, and as long as you take notes, you will get an A.
5/5 Professor
He's a great professor
He is a wonderful teacher that engages the class and makes the matirial intersting and easy to remember for tests.
Obnoxiously loud. He made me very uncomfortable because I felt like he dwelt on topics that did not need further development. Very easy class, but I did not care for it.
Best professor. Definitely recommend. GO BLUE :)
Funny professor who knows when to get serious. Best choice for BWVW in my opinion. Quizzes for 102 can be a little hard.
BEST PROF EVER! I love Van Engen! He's so kind and so funny. He always remembers my name and always talks to me when I need someone to talk to. He gives great lectures and will sometimes give you the answers to the entire quiz! AWESOME! Great class!
He is the greatest and coolest prof ever!!
Van Engen is an amazing teacher. He is active in his lectures, he is enthusiastic, and he is wise and knows what he's talking about. It is not hard to pay attention. I have talked to him after class several times.
Van Engen is a great prof! His lectures are great, and they keep you interested. If you have the chance to take a class from him, do it.
Dr. Van Engen is a great professor. He is great at giving his lectures, and he is pretty funny as well. He makes the class very enjoyable and I would definitely recommend him for the biblical worldview classes.
Dr. VanEngen is VERY funny. This class is SO easy, and he teaches the subject well. The one complaint would be the time it takes him to grade and return assignments, though this is probably a fault of the graders.
Wonderful teacher!
Van Engen is the best ever. He is so kind (and generous). He brought bagels and coffee for the final and he once took our class to Starbucks and paid for everything.
He's the best professor!
This professor is one of the most absent minded people you will ever meet. He can't seem to stay on topic for more than 10 minutes. He is loud and immature. If you just want to pass, this is the guy for you. I barely did anything and passed with literally a grade of 127%. I used class time as a study hall it was so boring.
awesome
One of the best I have had. He's nice, caring, and super funny! I am taking him again!
He is one of the funniest professors out there and the class doesn't have much work at all. Two papers, 3 tests, a one quiz question each class, and online easy quizzes. He does announcements for the majority of class, but if you listen you can learn some valuable things and he keeps it entertaining! He gets off topic a lot but you still learn.
Extremely funny and caring
Favorite professor at Liberty hands down!! He makes lectures fun and interesting. He obviously cares about his students and teaches material well.
The most boring class I've ever taken. The guy thinks he is funny but he is not at all and it takes him all day to go through one page of notes because he is constantly being sidetracked.
He was all over the place and it was hard to focus when the professor himself is distracted.
Hes one of the easiest/funny and easy going professors you will meet! So glad I had him as my professor.
Dr. VanEngen is hilarious and he really cares about his students individually.
suuuuuppper easy class like you have to be dumb to fail no need for reading just go over the workbook and you'll be fine. Very round about teaching though, if you don't leave notes for yourself in your workbook it won't make sense bc he elaborates very poorly. Easily distracted will ramble about oreos for 30% at least of the semester but too easy.
good sense of humor and very compassionate. fair grader and an entertaining teacher.
Van Engen does not demonstrate control over the class. He entertains and encourages rabbit trails and waste a lot of class time. He uses a lot of TopHat. I would have rather taken this class online. He loves the Lord and some people may find him funny, but I did not.
Great guy, but the lectures will bore you especially if you don't have the same humor as him. Gets off topic A LOT and yells so don't sit next to the speaker. Only showed up to class for attendance credit but lectures are useless since all the notes are online. Honestly don't think the workbook is required, but the books are for quizzes.
I enjoyed taking Biblical Worldview and Dr. Van Engen was one of my favorite professors last semester
Dr. Van Engen is a great guy. Impossible to get bored in class with his larger-than-life personality. Also, he loves Oreos too much. Bring him a pack of Oreos and he'll probably give you an A+
Prof Van Engen is a great person and I really respect him. I loved how he taught on controversial topics and told us his biases so we would be prepared. He encourages his students to form their own thoughts based upon the bible and to not just adopt the beliefs of their professors. If you want to learn about Oreology also, this class is it!
Evangelism 101 was great, it certainly pushes you out of your comfort zone. It is important to get all of the notes because he has an end of year note check for a grade and both the midterm and final (for my class anyways) was open book open notes. Overall great class. He was very friendly and always in a good mood.
Van Engen was a great professor that made Gen Ed Religion really fun! He did repeat a lot of concepts, so it got boring at times, though. However, if you miss class, either have someone give you the notes or be okay with not doing well on the exams. Also, the supplemental articles he provides are what the quizzes are based on so be sure to read!
Van Engen was not a horrible professor but he went off on tangents way too often and I felt it ate into our learning of the key information. He is way too obsessed over Oreos and talks about them way too often.
The only homework we ever get is quizzes. His class is very easy. Just take notes during the lecture. He is really funny and entertaining. He gives out lots of extra credit activities.
Super fun teacher and a great guy. You won't regret taking his class.
Van Engen did an excellent job of taking a boring subject and making it fun. The course really doesn't pick up until 8-9 weeks in when you start discussing contemporary moral issues as opposed to the Bible. Van Engen is a cool guy with a great sense of humor who really, really cares about his students and does his best to personalize.
He cracks a lot of jokes and likes to go on long tangents. Found him a little obnoxious as he wasted lots of time with his shenanigans. Little bit of reading in the class. Quizzes are easy and based off of reading. Tests are not hard as well if one properly studies for them. Not a bad prof by any means, but he is definitely not for everyone.
Van Engen is one of my favorite professors at Liberty. He is guaranteed to brighten your day and make you feel welcomed. I took RLGN 105 as honors and we had three papers to write based on books we read. I was stressed out about them, but he is a very easy grader, and I learned quickly that if you do the work, you have nothing to worry about.
Dr. Van Engen is a hilarious professor who also clearly knows what he is talking about. We usually wasted half of the class time making jokes and talking, but it did not prevent us from covering all of the necessary material. He assigned very few assignments, other than an easy quiz each week. Love Dr Van Engen, or as he will let you call him, Rob.
Great professor!
Dr. Van Engen is a hilarious lecturer, a wise teacher, and a man who cares. Get to know him. Talk to him after class, answer questions, volunteer to read, whatever it takes - he's an incredible resource for anything theology and a genuinely great person. Plus, his class is so easy, you barely have to study for his exams.
Mr.Rob was very funni man with Beetle car and Galf.
"GAULFFFFFFFF"
Van Engen is literally the best! He keeps the class lively and fun. He also gives out a lot of extra credit during the course.
Van Engen is a hilarious professor and keeps the class lively and engaged. His class is also very easy to follow and he gives you tons of extra credit. I would def take this professor again.
Van Engen is one of the most hilarious professors I have had. Participation is not really mandatory to pass, but you will want to go to his lectures because they are so enjoyable. The class is also very easy, if you have a basic understanding of Christianity you would have to try to not get an A.
Professor Van Engen is very funny and makes class entertaining. Because of this, we got very behind in the lecture material, but I still learned a lot from this class. He is very easygoing, and as long as you do your work you will pass.
Dr. Van Engen is a great professor. He has an exciting personality that will definitely keep you engaged! There's a reason why everybody wants him as a professor. The only con that I have is that his textbook is fill-in-the-blank notes off a PowerPoint he reads off of, so if you like writing your own notes, I would not buy it for RLGN 105
Dr. Van Engen is an awesome professor. He is so fun and engaging, and I really feel like I've learned something coming out of the class despite the class's relative lack of difficulty. Take Van Engen for 105, especially if you're in an Honors section, and I PROMISE you won't regret it.
Van Engen is THE BEST professor. His lectures are hilarious and keep you awake. The class wasn't hard you'll get an easy A if you know the basics. He also gives you loads of extra credit. He can get sidetracked which caused us to get slightly behind, but I would take him again. He is also very understanding if you have to miss class.
I took BWVW 101 & 102 from him. Both were great and would recommend his classes to any new students. 12/10.
Van Engen is an engaging and gregarious professor. My primary frustration with his class was the weekly quizzes: they were super nit-picky and hard to do well on if you actually followed the closed note/closed article instructions. This was my only gen ed last semester and it was not as easy as I expected it to be.
This is kind of a silly class, you learn more in Sunday school. Van Engen is certainly passionate, but he desperately needs his microphone taken away. Dude screams. But while he is very passionate about God, he seems to be shallow in the nuance of his biblical knowledge, and has said a few things that don't line up with the Bible.
he doesn't know how to pace himself, we didnt even get through half the book. the good thing (imo) is that he spotlights people in the class that have done well in sports or the community, but i know some people were embarrassed by that. he has an oreo religion and the homeschoolers eat this up - but tbh it's cringy. theres no workbook checks!!
Van Engen is the most caring professor I have had at Liberty. I had his honors section and by the 2nd class he knew every person's name. He got to know our passions and celebrated our accomplishments outside of the classroom. He was engaging but would go down rabbit trails and I wish more material was covered. Easy class but had many book reports.
Professor Van Engen is a passionate and engaging lecturer. While the class can be a bit disorganized at times, his teaching style keeps things lively. unstuck study proved helpful for study prep alongside the textbook.
Had him for Honors. Definitely a lot of reading for papers. He is careful to differentiate between things that the Bible says and things that are his own opinion. He wants you to think more critically about your worldview, and he definitely tells you what he believes and what he thinks you should believe but also lets you make your own decisions.
Love Dr. Van Engen, will meet with you even after you have finished his class which speaks to how amazing of a professor he is. Definitely take him if you have the opportunity
I was so happy to have Professor Van Engen. He is such a nice professor that makes the class fun and interactive, he was also intentional getting to know us. He knew everyone by name! The work wasn't hard, the only major assignments were book reports which I only had difficulty with because I was bad at staying on top of reading but got it done
