He brings real life examples to class and makes the class pretty interesting but he marks his exams very hard. He is a little snotty and talks down to you as well.
He makes the class very interesting with his comments and examples. He explains well and clearly but his midterm is very hard.
Great teacher. Tries to bring practical, real life examples and situations into class to better explain material. He may be a hard marker, but you'll learn a lot.
the course requires u to remember lots material, but exam are pretty staight foward...just have to remember what he said in class, go to calss, be ware of what he is talking about, then u'll be fine....
great guy, amazing teacher! Makes the material very easy, yet for some reason.. the grades suck!!! brutal marker. I did learn a lot, and the examples he brings helps me retain the theories even after the class is long over.

Listen to what he has to say, and when writing the exams try to bring in examples he uses and you will do fine!!!

His classes are nice to attend. You will realize that going to classes was a waste of time when you get to see the final exam.
His instructions are vague his class discussions are usless - i think that he uses the class to talk about himself ( he is very conceited). He is an unessesarily tough marker.

a bit of a show off, but knows his****. very helpful and narrows so much for you for the final. very entertaining but sometimes overdoes his jokes... he raised our mid-term marks by 16%!! i would take another class with him if he taught more..
Can you say "self-promoter"?! If bragging annoys you, and you can't stand feeling annoyed, don't take him. On the plus side, his English is very good (unlike many others) and his classes pass fairly quick.

he knows his****, but he cant go over everythin in class and on his slides , so i highly recommend u read the book along the way as it provides u with very intresting real life examples to make u remember the marketing concepts. he does brag a lot and repeats his jokes and stories but hes a gr8 prof all in all.

You are in love with yourself and you have your own business and bla bla bla...is one of those people who pretends that he doesnt brag but in reality just lives off the thrill of being "superior". Tried to talk to him one on one and it was a waste. But I did alright on the project considering the 3 other members did only 1 page/20, ug

Class notes are great and helps a lot for exams.
Uses his own personal life as examples...as if that helps! He will tell a story about his mother in Law and say "Just remember my MIL if you get a question like that on the exam..." Also his jokes suck, btw sir keep track of which stories you tell, because you keep changing them everytime you tell them... Definately needs to come back down to Earth
I don't think there could be a more down to earth professor. This guy is the funniest. Prepare to work though cause he's no walk over. Be polite and your good. Always willing to help and clarify stuff. Great guy.
I permit!--Not fair for the students .(1)the professor just consider the short answer questions but not the multiple choice questions.we worked hard on reading textbook and we did well on multiple choice. (2)He gave credits to everyone before evaluating him, but gave low marks to everyone in the project and final exam.
This guy is down to earth!!!? He takes up alot of class time to brag about his company, and about all the stuff that he can afford... I dont find it interesting listening to him talk about all these "cool" gadgets he owns, big f-ing deal! Im not there to listen to him talk about his ipod or his great car or... im there to learn marketing!
I can't understand how anyone could have a bad thing to say about this guy. He is well-versed in marketing and provides concrete examples to backup academic theories which he presents in his lectures. He is entertaining, interesting and above all: fair. He class is based on understanding concepts not memorizing. Learn and don't regurgitate.
Very good teacher. He explains the theories based on life examples that "may or may not be true". Very funny and the classes aren't boring. I enjoyed going to class and listening to him. I would recommend him. Dont let him trick you in to thinking the stuff is easy, he's a salesman. You need to do work on your own and read the book.

Great Teacher, Great Guy, very straight forward, explains exactly what to study for mid-term and final, group project with specific outlines, if you do what he says, you will do really well, very approachable, a serious teacher, real life examples used in every class, no complaints, take his class!
This is the best marketing professor, make sure to try to write down every words he said(hints) for short answers questions on exam(no kidding) he is fare and helpful, his notes are very important, take this prof, you may get A if you pay attention in his class, good luck! (ps. he is nice to ESL students)

Knows marketing, but does a bad job at teaching it. Tells unrelated stories and tries to tie it in with the subject at hand. He wastes class time with them, and doesn't end up REALLY teaching the subject. Will skip through powerpoint slides that are important and then say we need them later. Asks for one thing, expects another. Don't take him.
I agree. I got an A with him but i didn't learn much except his funny jokes. we're here to learn. not play. all of you slackers will like this teachers. but if you want to learn something useful, avoid him.
overall, he's a nice guy, but the course material and knowledge are not really apparent in his teachings. He lets you know what's on the final and tries to help, but the class often seemed like a waste of time.
Like other people I think he jokes around too much instead of teaching the subject. I find he doesn't explain clearly at all. I think he uses the bell curve a lot, because I was honestly afraid of failing and ended up with an A-. Class average must have been really LOW. My thoughts - it's the teacher's fault, not the students.
Funny guy, and loves to Bell Curve which is always good, I ended up with a B and I thought I was going to get a C- or so
He was alright...classes were not too boring, even though they were long. It was really hard to know what he wanted in terms of the group project, though...he would just reject stuff without giving any real feedback...

Amazing teacher! Highly recommended. Makes learning interesting by integrating real life situations and applying it to theory. Has ppt presentations, no need to take notes, just listen to him and you will understand the material. Tells you ahead of time what to expect on exams. Study what he tells you and you will be fine! He is great!
He is an OK teacher ...hard grading...the whole class had a bad grade for the project highest grade was 20/30...his note are not good for finals ..u have to read the book or else u fail...but he is a funny guy and his class are fun ....But if u can avoid just do it
As a person, he is fantastic! His stories are humourous and make the information easy to comprehend. Grading on the other hand is hardly appreciated. Midterm is very easy, final exam is a killer with much more detail then he claims you need to know and he never tells you specifically how to ace the project, highest mark was a 24/30.
ah He's not great.Lot of personal stories, lot of bragging of his posessions. He's fun in class, you can tell he enjoys what he's doing which is nice. But you have fun for a semester then he's like Alright then! Final exam memorize 20 chapters on first class, 30 slides per chapter anything is game on the exam good riddance!
Overall, a pretty good prof. He's got a bit of an ego and can make snobby remarks; but he does keep class interesting and interactive. Nice guy and tells lots of stories. Willing to accodomate students/their needs. Easy midterm, but know your material WELL for the final. A rather hard marker but he curves grades. Overall; I'd take him again.
He is great! He is very considerate and helpful, his notes on the other hands arent that great. But if you read the book and attend all his classes you will be more than fine! Talk to him, email him, anything he'll be there to help you for sure! I recommend his strongly!
He does not really teach, he shares anecdotal stories, which may be amusing but do not prepare you for exams. I felt unprepared for the final exam based on the information he taught us and told us to review. I think he should do more teaching and less story telling and maybe he would not have to bell curve so much.

At the beginnig all was good in his class. He told us a lot of story to understand the class. Easy midterm. BUT... I dont understand why but in the project he gived low grades to everyone and is Final exam is a KILLERRR. The final its about things he never said in class. Use the book!!
Lectures are entertaining, but that's about all the value you will get. His midterm is really hard and the people he has correcting it do not know what they are doing. He does not justify his grading for the project. He does not prepare you well enough for the final exam which he doesn't write. He refuses to help you. Never take him, useless prof.

he's funny makes classes fun to attend but he doesnt teach enough to get you that A or that B grade. If you take him make sure you study from the book that's a must. Mid term is tough final exam you better study from the book but the good thing is he bumps the grades up becasue the class average is always so low!!
Prof will have you laughing the entire time! He is a bit arrogant but he knows what he's talking about. The midterm (25%) is doable (all based on his slides alone which he posts+tells you exactly what to study) the final(41%) is a bit scary (book+slides). The only project(30%) is in groups and he's not very clear about it at all. Bell-curves marks.
The guy is hilarious, he makes the subject interesting and fun. He could have been a bit clearer on the project, but all around he is a great teacher.
oh boy man oh man this guy has one big ego! he loves talking and talking about his accomplishments he's pretty funny but dont count on him to pass the semester study from the book and his notes are helpful the toughest thing about the course is getting him to agree on the topic of your group oproject make sure you pick the right group and work hard

I disliked marketing before going to this class and disliked it even more after. He spent 30 minutes on 60 slides and explained irrelevant, minor things. Plus his grading was ridiculously hard. The highest mark on the project was 73%. There are some bad profs at JMSB but he's among the worst, no doubt. Funny, but a hard grader and poor explainer.

Wow this guy is absolutely terrible. Very low marks on group project (highest 73%) and poor teaching skills. Tells a lot of stories but doesn't explain concepts. Midterm was detailed but doable. Final..... goodluck. Dont take him unless you can memorize everything straight from the book (19 chapters).

mr saks!! wow does he love himself and his accomplishments in life!!! i found him funny but i knew the day i went to class i wouldnt count on him to get a good grade so i became friends with next best thing; the book. i also got lucky and picked the right group and the final was tough but doable he tells u what he expects from u from the get go!
All i can say is that he is two faced. I told him that I study better alone because i have ADD and that i would be using his notes. He agreed and said that he understands and that i should do whats best for me. But in class he tells the whole class im too ashamed to come to class. All i can say is he was horrible to me. Never again.

There is a common exam written by all MARK 201 and COMM223 sections that he does not prepare you properly for. Like others have said, study the book. He marks very hard on the projects. His lectures are entertaining though, and his midterm is easy if you study his slides. Be warned: this is a weed out class to get into JMSB!
His midterm has nothing to do with the final and is a creation of what he wants marketing to be about. Hes arrogant although his lectures are somewhat interesting. He tells you exactly whats on the final which is great because the textbook is huge. Don't talk to him if you have a short temper.
The most rude and arrogant teacher I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Openly mocks students for asking questions during his lecture. Do not take any of his courses if you can help it. This man should not be a teacher, period.

He's a decent teacher and MARK201 is quite interesting, but I wouldn't recommend it as an elective, unless you plan on switching to JMSB. He tells you the midterm questions in class, so it requires only a brief knowledge of the textbook, but the final is all book. The group project is never explained, though he uploads past projects to help you.
He says he teaches due to his passion for the material but you quickly find out he is doing it more for himself than any of his students. He gives no indication of how he is going to grade the project and was very unprofessional with his corrections. Avoid if you can but you can still pull off a B range mark with minimal involvement.

Please do not take him. He's actually the worst teacher i've had. Sure he'll make you laugh during class, but theres no way you can pass the final if you just listen to him. USE THE BOOK and also CHOOSE A GOOD GROUP. He doesn't care if you did all the work alone the night before.

One of the best marketing classes you will ever attend. The guy is super charismatic and a good lecturer. Listening this guy talk will be more useful for your careers than any marketing textbook. Downside - He is a hard marker, highest grade on the projects will be in the 70s range.

The worst class ever. Arrogant and not at all enjoyable. He is more interested in telling you jokes then making sure you understand the material. He explains marketing in the most basic term which is not at all helpful for the exams. Avoid!
Super sketchy Prof. Grades over 100 essay and short answer based essay in 2 days. Very annoying, class is useless no point going nor buying the book. One of the only teacher that has to use Bell Curve because hes too lazy to make the exam of appropriate level
Like everyone else is saying, he's a very sketchy teacher. Corrects really half-ass and doesn't really care. The only thing he did well was answering quickly to emails. Exams are never of appropriate level and the final project is corrected very harshly the avg is about 60% on it. Would not recommend nor take him ever again
i dont understand how i received such a horrible grade... super hard marker i have to retake this class because it ruined my gpa group project highest grade was in the low 70s and the final had almost nothing to do with his slides
Tough marker, did not even explain all the material that was on the midterm. Tells us no need to study the theory or definitions since he won't be asking that on the midterm but did. Does not explain the material properly. Took this as an elective and was the hardest class I've had. Do not recommend. AVOID!!!!!!!!
Honestly, this is a fairly easy class. He's not a hard marker, he's a fair marker. Write down every last term, definition, reproduce every sketches. Go through his mock exam questions said in class. Go at the end of each chapter in the textbook and take notes on the essential things. This should do it.
Got a B in his class, not much work. went to class, read the book, sorta ran out of time for the final but i guess i did okay in the end. he's hilarious. i would take him again.

I LOVED HIM!! For the final exam, you'll have to rely on the book and not his lectures. But he's absolutely hilarious, his lectures are interesting and he genuinely cares about his students. If you have questions, you can call him. He provides clear and helpful explanations when you do so. His midterm was very easy! Overall awesome teacherperson!!

Good teacher. Extremely hilarious. His slides are detailed and a quick review of the book should be fine to get an average grade. If you listen in class, you'll definitely be fine. The one problem is that he runs on the assumption that all students learn the same way: through examples. So, if you learn this way, then he'll be great.
Full 2 and a half hour class, no break. Tells stories about his personal life for the full 2.5 hours, which leaves students quite lost. Extreme lack of clarity expects we are at his level of marketing knowledge, therefore, really low class averages on exams. Do not take if you are looking for easy elective. Draining course.

2 1/2 hours of marketing lectures could make for a boring time, but Prof. Saks really engages the class. He uses a lot of real-world examples, instead of dully reading off the PP. Tough grader, especially on the group projects. Overall, would take again, but perhaps not if you are looking for easy A. Cool guy tho, and ask about his magic tricks
Horrible teacher. I would NEVER take him again. He isn't helpful at all. He can't explain why your answer is wrong without making things blurry. He doesn't not provide feedback nor review sessions. Im so unhappy that I choose him as a teacher. His powerpoint are not helpful at all. Too redundant not short, sweet and "to the point". RUNNNN!
He relies on examples a lot rather than explaining concepts thoroughly which can be quite confusing. He's funny and keeps the students entertained and you might think that the class is easy and you don't need to do much, well, FALSE! Memorize the concepts and retain his examples or else it'll be a bumpy ride. He was tough on the group project!
Got an A! You need to work hard for good marks, thats life... Awesome Prof. because he is very prompt with responding to your inquiries. Makes a 3 hour lecture feel like a 1 hour lecture. Hilarious and will get you laughing and smiling for sure!!! Definitely would recommend taking him.
I like the teacher's personality, the classes are fun to attend. The problem is the dissonance between the class content and the exams. He gives a lot of examples in class and barely goes over the theoretical concepts, but the exams are detail oriented, theoretical and I'm not talking about the major concepts, but about small details within them :(
Gives a lot of examples rather than going into the conceptual details. Useful for the group project, but not for the exams. If you want to pass, you need to read the book and memorize all the small details... if it's an elective you're thinking of taking, take something else
Excellent Teacher! uses real life examples, and has a great sense of humour. He uses the slides which simplifies a lot. gives all the hints to do well through out the semester.
A good teacher who's very hands on. He will give examples but pay attention and make sure you study outside of his class, be it through studying his slides or reading the textbook. Do MRP, get ready for a project that will be graded very severely but other than that, I'd take him again.

This professor is a bully. He looks open minded and his class is entertaining. But when it gets to talk to him, he will intimidate you and be rude. He continuously says sexist jokes in class, and randomly starts doing magic tricks. When it comes to feedback, he won't give you any other than "this is terrible."
By far the most unnecessarily difficult prof. I've had so far. His grading is extremely harsh and he gives no meaningful feedback. Some lectures can be entertaining but they lack substance. I would avoid him at all costs. Seriously.
He is always super available and his lectures are interesting. Many people in my class had a hard time getting a high mark ( one person got an A and five people got an A-) but I found his class to be both entertaining and insightful. He is an excellent lecturer who really makes his students work for their marks, but if you listen to him you'll pass
Rambles on and on and on about random examples, they are funny untill everyone does very bad on the exams!
His lectures were most often just him rambling about aspects that interested him in the slides. His feedback on the group project was very condescending. I wouldn't say avoid him at all costs but if you take him, listen to what he says and follow his instructions EXACTLY. If he doesn't see what he wants to see then he will grade you harshly.
Very tough grader!! Midterm class average was 53 and the best group project was 80!! He bell curves tho.
Class was hilarious but at the end of the day we didnt learn much, and realized that during the final exam! Our class midterm grade was so bad that he gave us all 27% more and he told us specific things to study for the final, that were not necessarily useful for that exam. Our group got the best project and got an 80%, average was around 65%.

If you go to office hours he always seems to enjoy talking down to you without really answering your question. He does not prepare you for the final what so ever. I would avoid him and just read the textbook.

The class was fun to attend and gained lots of knowledge that only helped me in the midterm. The group project was brutal and he was very discouraging about any idea we come up with. The final exam was very hard compared to how easy he made it seem. HOWEVER, he does curve up the marks and apparently always does.

Let me get right to the point: TRY AND AVOID Professor Saks if you can. He is not an easy grader and I would go as far as to say he goes out of his way to look for faults in your writings/answers. I know very few who respond well to his teaching style. Sure he does magic tricks in attempt to keep the class entertained, but please try & avoid!
Avoid at any cost. Class material is not bad but he doesn't explain it well in class, keeps on cracking up some jokes and magic tricks but at the end of the day, you don't learn much. Final was really tough compared to how he described it. If you have the option to choose another professor then do.
Finding the comments on here really misleading. Not such a "tough" grader, he grades accurately, you just have to work for this course. His lectures are interesting and fun.
Dont go to lectures. study all the slides on your own. Exams are based on that. There is a group project (pray you dont get a lazy group). The directions of the project are not clear so get ready to speculate your way Through it.

He is a perfect example of a bad teacher. Attending lectures is useless. Read the book and the powerpoint slides on your own to prepare for the exam. Do not rely on him to help you prepare for the final. Try to avoid him.
He doesn't care about students at all and is also a bully looking down on students who didn't get the material (or try to ask him questions after class). Group project is a nightmare. Thanks to Robby, I truly hate marketing now.

A traumatizing experience that tainted me for life. A hypocrite and a condescending person.He implied that I am not aggressive enough, and convinced me to let a teamate know that she is wrong with what she suggests I should put in my part. Then he met with her and the team and told them that I seemed to him confused and clueless. He is racist.
