The material is really boring, but he is very intelligent. You have to study for the exams to do well and must always go to class! He tries his best to make things clear, but some stuff is just way over everyone's head. Not too much hw, boring lectures, but you do learn if you really pay attention!

The material itself is interesting, although at times he can show it at a boring pace. Digresses alot from course material. Doesn't want to help the student out (ie. copy sheets handed out, get notes, etc). His review sessions are broad and not acute. Comes off as a snob. There are some "writings" (very short) and maybe a quiz here and there, but he doesn't make this class as difficult as the description reads so don't worry! This is the second time I have taken Prof. Allison and I definitely do not regret it! He is quite funny and keeps your attention in the lectures! Class likely ends early as well ;)

Graded by quizzes, final exam, and reading/marking essays. He said that he was no longer taking roll, but would make important announcements in class without mentioning them on BS or email. He also only gave the final study guide in person. Made iffy comments about pronouns/trans people so avoid if that makes you uncomfortable. MAKE SURE TO READ!

My name is Sinde' Tantua and I had the pleasure of taking professor Allison's ethics course last semester. He is truly one of my favorites. He is a true genius who's course is worth your while. His homework may be a bit challenging but he is open to hearing feedback. He is caring and beautiful person overall. Do not hesitate to take him courses.

Extremely smart and down to earth professor. Tells you exactly what to do to get the grade you're aiming for. Discussions in his class are very interesting. There are a few short papers and online quizzes, but none of the work is too strenous. As long as you pay attention to instructions and read, you'll do well. Super cool guy, I def recommend!

I'm not sure why Professor Allison has such a good score on Rate My Prof. He's an okay professor and the work is fairly easy, but he is not accessible or communicative outside class, posts nothing on the syllabus and just doesn't really care about any of his students. Didn't even bother to ask for anyone's name at the beginning of the semester.

This class very much failed to deliver interesting matierial. Basically a watered down ethics class that rarely talked about love or marriage. Graded off of multiple choice brightspace take home quizzes, which are easy enough. Lectures are odd and anecdotal. I recommend a general ethics class over this.

he was a nice guy but his lectures were all over the place and he would go on long tangents. We had quizzes every sunday on the reading and lectures from the week but his lectures did not always go over the quiz questions so it would be impossible to answer them. He started class 15 mins late & ended early. Lectures had no slides just him talking

Super long tangents in lectures you HAVE to pay attention to to pass the quizzes that are worth a huge chunk of your grade. One of my only B's all of LMU because the quiz questions are so confusing.

Professor Allison is one of the most intelligent and inspirational professors I've had at LMU. He's super smart and an amazing lecturer. This class was also extremely interesting, and Professor Allison knows how to lecture in a way in which we apply the course material to our personal lives. Take him if you can, he's an absolute genius. LOVE HIM!

He doesn't know how to teach ethics. I know more about his life and views than the class material. He didn't properly explain the argument forms, analyze examples, or discuss the types of fallacies. He doesn't use slides or the whiteboard and grades based on a few online quizzes with misleading questions.

I really gave him a fair chance. He thinks way too highly of himself, pretends he's fair (he's not) and gets passive aggressive when you point out inconsistencies. Quizzes are full of trick questions although he denies it, doing the readings and putting in effort will still get you 2-4 "wrong" answers when they're actually based on interpretation.

Teaches well. But goes on very long tangents defending himself of his previous run-ins with students claiming he's racist and homophobic. Quizzes and work are online and pretty straight forward. Class is normally just lecture, but can include short worksheets that are only used to count participation/attendance. The final is in person but online.

Topics in Applied Ethics with Prof Allison, I enjoyed his class. The quizzes were hard in the way he worded them but if you study they're fine. TAKE PICTURES OF HIS NOTES. He's helpful in explaining questions and concepts after class. I see why people might not like him, but he's just a straight up logic professor with a backbone. No papers

Rob Allison is a very funny and engaging lecturer, but when it comes to grading, he grades based off a few quizzes. When making quizzes he treats it like the LSAT, meaning even if you know the answer, the wording might trip you up and you get it wrong anyway. I liked going to class, but the way the grading worked made it unnecessarily difficult.

He goes on so many tangents and tells way too much of his personal life to us. Also, he has this crazy republican agenda that he constantly tries to sneak at us. He comes off as full of himself with the way he talks. He needs to become way more aware of what he says and how he says it.

Professor Allison goes off on too many tangents, does not take criticism, and does not allow for debate or interpretation of material other than his own. There's no room for the student's opinions as he rarely accepts questions. He also has very clear right leaning opinions that he "subtly" tries to push on us. This is a not an Ethics class.

I wouldn't recommend taking this class for core, there's easier options. As for the class, its fairly difficult conceptually. Weekly quizzes based on his notes and assigned readings (worth a lot). It's not that hard, but if you can't handle trick questions, this class ain't for you. Lectures and assigned readings are very interesting.

Great professor! Attend lecture because he gives a lot of guidance on the answers to the weekly quizzes. Attend class and you will be fine. He provides anecdotes for the lectures that make the material easier to understand. The first half of the semester is focused on the foundations of ethics then love/marriage. Take this class for ethics core!

Robert Allison is an earnest and strong professor who is very in touch with his teaching values. His lectures are engaging, and he shares a myriad of personal anecdotes that are entertaining and enlightening. The content is challenging, but is very graspable if you're concentrated in class. He despises grade inflation, so don't expect an easy A.
