After 5 years, still the best class I've taken

Prediction: People will tell you to take his class. You will and you will find him amusing. Then, you will need to talk to him at somepoint and you will find out how awful he is. You will regret taking his class if you ever have to deal with him 1 on 1.

I've read other comments and need to add that most people note that Altemeyer has problems when he is asked questions. 1) He is unable to think unconventionally. 2) He always seems to submit to the outside authority of his notes or the clock.

I had 3 appoiments set with Dr. Bob. He missed all of them. More than once he made fun of my Christianity. He called it a religion for bigots.

I think it was the most ineffective learning experience of my life. Like many are saying here it was a waste of time. Ok. Bob. We get it. You're an agnostic and a Marxist. Anyone who isn't is to be made fun of in class. College is expensive. This class was a waste of the money.

It was a common joke for us students. Dr. Bob didn't show to his office hours. And if you had a question in class he always made fun of you.

The first time he was late by 15 minutes I was leaving and he was coming. He grabbed my and paraded me back onto class. He told the entire class that he would make an example of me since I was impatient.

My mistake was wearing my letter jacket to class. For the rest of the semester he referred to me as someone who's muscles are bigger than his cerebellum. I wish I could post the graded final. He graded with alot of bias. My roommate got a much higher score for the same answer.

Why all the negative comments? Sure he was barely capable of operating a projector, but it made it really easy to copy answers off my "notes". I should of gotten an A.

Never seemed prepared. Never seemed approachable. Many complained about his lack of office hours.

Very arrogant and not helpful. Why do I need to know what clothes you wore on what day as a test answer? Is this your authoritarian way of exerting control?

I feel compelled to leave review as I must communicate that dr. Bobs class was the #1 worst of my education. Manitoba was a great value in education.

Just go to the lectures and do the reading. It's an easy class.

Remember that some questions are tricky. When he asks "when the lecturer says..." it may be only his opinion and not proven psychology. The lectures were childish expressions of immaturity.

It is my opinion that it was never a good idea to ask a question in class. Tests were too easy.

I tried to connect after class, and never received a reply so I rate the helpfulness very low. The lectures were all about the lecturer and not about teaching the students so I rate the clarity very low. On a positive note, the class was super easy to get extremely high grades. The joke on campus was to take this class for an easy schedule.

I'm sure he's retired. Too bad for the next students. This was such an easy class. My roommate even got 100%. And he flunked out of university. I aced the class! I can't tell you what I "learned" but appreciate the simple tests.

Easier than high school Psych! Prof. seemed to find a new way to waste about 1/3 of the lecture every day... Problems with this... Questions about that... Just to waste time?

Intro psych. That was a simple class. The prof. was a bit off-the-wall. Didn't explain his thoughts clearly. Too many jokes. Amatuerish lectures. Avoid asking questions. Nonexistent office interaction.

Ask yourself if you want to be challenged to be a better person. If you do then look elsewhere. If not Dr. Bobs class is perfect for you. It's completely unchallenging.

Commonly known as easiest class on campus. Fills up fast with the anti-intellectuals who think that getting an A without doing work equals an education.

If you want an easy A take this. If you want to learn about psychology take another.

For someone who makes fun of the typical, Dr. Bob ends up being...typical. Easiest class in the University.

The class is a breeze. Not hard at all. I appreciate simple classes to pad my GPA.

As most peoples say here, I takes the class to get an easy high grades. Doctors Bob was good to score easy high.

People take classes to learn and people take classes to get good grades. This class was for the latter. Perfect for my needs.

I vividly remember the professors antics. It was unnecessary and turned most students away from the class. The class was all about him, not about the students. A completely wrong focus.

This is the class you want to take to get a high grade. Take another if you want to be a Psych major.

I wanted to leave my comments also. The class was full of antics and didn't provide a atmosphere conducive to learning. In this respect the classroom experiment failed.

Did this guy act like a comedian in all his classes or just Intro? What does it say about a person who is compelled to act like a goof to teach university?

Overall the class was geared for low level students. I'm pretty sure the average class grade is an A. The prof. was not challenging and generally more confusing than anything.

Took this to learn mire about the social sciences. After a week or two, I quickly realized that social scientists are generally full of garbage and bias. The class went on like an improv show with Dr. Bob seeming to make up the entirity of the lectures. Very unprofessional.

Dr. Bob. You're class was mine favorite!!!  You ROCK!!  Its nice too have a easy class!!!  Its kinda hard to folo all ur lectares. Ooo I lurned sooooo much.  

As I recall, the class and professor were very substandard in it's level of academic rigor. It turned out to be too easy and graded very easily.

I agree with most commentors. We need to question the administration as to why they would have employed someone as incapable of professional teaching as Altemeyer.

I didn't dislike the class; I just think it was too easy. There should be some intellectual discourse in classes in university. This class lacked all general attributes of a great class. It was just a one-sided discussion from a leftist point of view.

My thoughts are similar to others. The class was way too easy. Many students will like the ease. Myself, I would like to actually learn something.

Summary: Unchallenging, weird lectures, don't ask questions.

I liked all my great proffessirs at Manitoba. Dr. Bob was one who was unconventional just for trying to be unconventional. It was an akward act to make him appear unique. His lectures bordered on incomprehesional babble.

I also need to agree. Dr. Altemeyer should have been much more "involved" with the class and not so "devolved" acting like a comedian. It was a total waste of valuable resources.

Pretty similar to my experience in the class. It's easy to get an A. It's difficult to learn psychology. Dr. Bob was confusing (I think intentionally) and offered no assistance. My apprehensions disappeared after the first test. It was so easy. I think everyone gets 95%+ on the tests.

This is a fantastically easy class. Dr. Bob literally gives out As. Easy cheesy.

When you weigh the good an bad, you quickly realize there is little reason why the university would employ such a person. I don't blame Altemeyet as much as I blame a poor administration.

My opinion is that prof. Altemeyer should have prepared more and been more accessable. His accent was difficult to understand - more US than Canadian - and he should have spoken mire clearly. He was easily distracted in class. If someone asked a question it was generally ignored or ridiculed.

The most memorable part of the class was that it was so easy.

The things that were written were pretty good. The book, tests were all fine. The spoken lectures were a mess of disassociated bramble.

I can't imagine an easier class!! The teaching is very poor but the grades are fantastic. Hold your nose and take the class.

It's not that the class was taught at a simplistic level so freashmen could comprehend the subject, it was that any of the freshmen could have actually taught the class. Altemeyer was poorly prepared and and a general sense of he didn't care about teaching. I guess he had tenure.

I had a few classes by Dr. Bob. I regret them all. I cannot imagine how someone as incopetent as he could ever get tenure. It is a very sound example of what is wrong with the Canadian educational system. We should demand excellence not liberalism.

When I took the class, it was considered to be among the easiest classes to take. Very poorly taught. Everyone gets an A just for showing up.
