Great! Very easy to understand.
Professor Anderson is a very good teacher. Who cares about his student and wants to see all his student suceed. He teachs with such enthusiam that it make going to the class fun. He tries to liven things up by cracking up silly jokes that are funny because he trying so hard to make them funny. I would definitely recommend him
Great teacher. The material is very thorough and he tries to make the class as entertaining as possible. Very helpful and always wants students to do better. I would recommend to students that are above average in math.
Awsome prof, he really knows how to make math understandable for students. I would Totally recommend him1!
He made everything crystal clear. This was my first math class at Stony Brook and he created a solid foundation for classes to come. If you take 122, take it with him.
A great professor who knows what he's doing. If you understand the concepts on the review sheets he gives before each midterm, you're crystal. They're basically the same material and format, but different numbers.
GREAT professor....He makes everything so much easier...totally recommend him..
One of the best classes I have taken at Stony Brook. He's is dedicated to his work and students and more than willing to help you if you don't understand ANYTHING. Tests are easy as long as you do the review sheets that he posts. I would highly recommend taking a class with this professor. He's one of the best!
Good Teacher. He jokes alot although some are not funny. Cool Guy. Teaches material easy class is not mandatory just make sure you go to recitation. Overall easy class. I hated math but pulled an A-
Great teacher. He moves at a good pace and really wants to see his students do the best.
It took me a second to find him here (his name's spelled Andersen with an e not an o) but I'm glad I did because I highly recommend him to EVERYBODY. The man is intelligent, knows his stuff, moves at a great pace and really cares about the students. he's also funny in a cute and corny way and is nice like a grandfatherly type. He made calc great
Best math teacher I've ever had. Very clear and review sheets resemble the exams. Nice guy too.
great teacher, jokes a lot and is committed to his students. the review sheets resemble the tests and he knows what he's talking about and helps you through it if you don't understand. GREAT MATH TEACHER! i suggest you take him.
he is an amazing professor and he is really nice. he is very helpful and goes out of his way to explain things further than what they need to be. you don't need your textbook in lecture if you choose to go, he just puts the problems on the board. tests are extremely easy.
This professor could very well be the best, and the kindest professor that one could expect to see at the university level, if you go to every lecture and recitation you may not need to do the homeworks which means you also might not need the textbook either, it depends on your proficiency in Math/calc.
AWESOME! has clear lectures and helps students understand anything they need to brush up on. review sheets resemble tests. gave us a boost on our final. his jokes are somewhat funny. overall, take this class!
Very perceptive about the class, easily catches texters and ipod listerners. He is funny in the kind of way that his jokes are so terrible you can't help but cringe and laugh with your friends. Very helpful though, when you ask a question, and he tries hard to erase any confusion. In the front, I slept all the time, he never said anything.
awesome. explains thoroughly and helps whenever you need him too. sets up review sessions for tests.
Hell of a lot better than some other calc professors here, I give you that. He does have some corny jokes that make you laugh 'cuz they're bad, but if you ask questions & stuff he will do his best to help you understand. My only problem though is that he talks madd low so sitting in the back of the lecture hall makes it hard for you to hear him.
helpful and nice
i LOVED his class. He explained everything so clearly and he was extremely likeable. definitely one of the best teachers i've ever had.
Great professor! I personally suck at math so I still struggle, but he is one of the best math professors I've had. He is very clear, and will repeat anything if a student asks. Extremely helpful, tries to lighten the class with little jokes..I definitely recommend this professor!
He is a great professor and his care is for the students and really helping them learn and get ready for the next level of math. He is understanding of situations and wants to see you suceed. One of the best professors I've had at Stony Brook
Professor Andersen and his silly jokes haaha whoever entered him in here spelled his last name wrong but someone mentioned his corny jokes and i knew it was him. He's a really sweet guy and teaches pretty well, but because I'm in proficiency he has to take the long way to do things. Overall he's great.
He is a good teacher BUT he rushed through the entire semester. Each 80 minute class consisted of one or two problems/proofs, and then suddenly moving on to the next topic. My TA did not speak English and the textbook is horrible. I taught myself the whole semester. Did review sheets & tons of extra problems and still had a 77 average on midterms.
To be in his class is to be blessed. He is the best Math Professor, he wants to see all His students succeed and he take his time and teaches. I personally did not know anything thing in math and this guy has made me love math and I'm doing very well. I Strongly and Highly Recommend you to take him as a professor you will gain so much knowledge
Hes so adorable haha, makes cute jokes throughout class to keep you on your toes. Give tricks and rhymes to help remember things for the exams. He writes the exams so it's definitley a plus to be in his lecture over others. Grade is based on 3 exams & online HWs. Class is too big to take attendance, but go to Rec- they grade quizzes & attendance.
very good professor, the only problem is that he gives short pop-quizes every week so you have to go to class even if attendance is not mandatory...
Professor Andersen is one of the math Professor in the entire world hands down. He know how to teach and teaches well. He give students and make them feel confident rather than let then down like other Professors. I would Strongly to TAKE HIS Class for what ever course he teaches. To have him as a teacher is to be blessed. Great personality as well
Excellent math professor!Uses great analogies for complex calculus concepts. For example he calls the chain rule the onion rule because "you peal your way inside."Also makes funny jokes during class. However he waist time graphing on the calculator which we are not even allowed to use during a test. There wasn't a curve in the class which surprised
He is the best teacher at stony brook! Math is not my top subject and I was scared to take this class. But he has been so helpful- he is clear in class- he cares about the students- and funny! (in a corny way haha!)
Hands down this is the best math professor at SBU! Extremely helpful during office hours and willing to answer questions in lecture too. He tells corny jokes through lecture, he's so cute in a grandpa kind of way. Homeworks are hard, but easier than the exam questions. Strongly recommended!
Do not take MAT 126 with Andersen. He always gets stuck with the harder concepts of calculus. Also, the class had a horrible curve, so make sure you get 90s and everything if you want an A. BUT if you take him for MAT 123 or MAT 125 you will do great! He is an excellent professor when it comes to easier Calculus concepts. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IF SO
Anderson is the most helpful math teacher I've ever had. He's super clear on concepts and really cares about his students. His office hours are extremely helpful, he basically re-teaches the lesson if you ask him to. Overall a great professor, highly recommend him.
Professor Anderson is funny and a bit ditzy sometimes, he tells jokes sometimes to try to make people smile, he gives students hope! He's an awesome man that will give you any extensions if needed! Don't even need the textbook, there's a pdf online going around! Go to reviews and do the homework even though he doesn't check it!
Great professor. Clear in lectures and makes good jokes. Office hours are always helpful. Probably the most redpilled college professor I've had. 10/10, would take class with again.
If you're taking MAT 126, take this class with Professor Andersen. His jokes are funny at times, but he definitely knows how to teach the material and is really helpful. Office hours also do come in handy, too.
I'm terrible at math and Professor Andersen made it easier to understand. He tries to make this class enjoyable, he makes corny jokes and remarks and is pretty energetic. The online homework is absolutely horrible (web assign)! However, there's no reason to buy the textbook since all of your hw is online.
decent professor nothing to complain. but he wont ever help you outside lectures. never replied to my emails
Tries to keep class entertaining which is a good thing but the way he explains things is complicated so if you can, try and take Khan's class instead. If you cant avoid taking his class then make sure you pay attention, if you miss something you might be a little confused
Great professor. Goes in depth when solving calculus problems. Lecture was 1 hr and 20 mins and we usually only went over 2 problems in that time. Goes over textbook problems in class and great during office hours.
Wonderful professor. Funny, engaging, and overall a very charismatic guy.
He's a really great guy, but not always the best at explaining things.
It has been a pleasure learning from Bob. He's the best professor for MAT 123 and MAT 126, if you see him teaching these (or any math class for that matter) register now!
Professor Andersen is the best professor I've had at Stony Brook so far. I went into 126 hating calculus and thinking I'd do badly but he explains things so clearly. He goes really in depth to help you understand exactly what's going on. His tests are very fair and doable. He made me actually enjoy calculus!
MAT131 lecture is 1hr 20mins long, but Prof Andersen makes it enjoyable. I like how he conduct the class and how he go over problems step by step. Although attendance is not mandatory, I still recommend attending the lecture. As long as you study and practice, homework and tests are easy.
Professor Andersen is one of the best math professors at Stony Brook. He tends to make a few dumb mistakes like forgetting a minus sign or two, but he's very intelligent and easy to understand. Take his class and you will do well. He might even tell a few corny jokes that will make you laugh.
Robert Anderson was definitely one of my favorite professors my first semester. He was very helpful each time I went to his office hours and I very much enjoyed his lectures. Because I loved him so much, I'm actually taking his other class MAT211 next semester! :)
He's a legit bae. My favorite professor at SBU. Hilarious too and he tries really hard to be there for you. Take his class and you'll never regret it. Tests are the same as the practice tests.
Its fun being in his class.
Pretty basic class if you don't mind algebra. He is funny and often makes jokes during class, and makes even more jokes if you go to office hours. Very nice and genuinely cares about if you understand the material and how you progress. Forms a good relationship with students and would definitely recommend taking him.
I had Andersen for both MAT 126 and MAT 131 and I loved him thoroughly. He is like if your grandpa was your professor (very heavy on dad jokes). If you ask him to go over something he will happily do so and spends more than enough time on each topic. Homework is easy, and the practice tests are reflections of what you will get on the actual test.
Amazing professor! Hes nice and hilarious. Really goes at a good pace for everyone to learn. Loved him!
HE is an amazing lecturer. Exams are easy if you attend his lectures. Cracks jokes all the time, can be like a grandpa to students.
This is probably the single best professor at this school. Really clear lecturer, and made the subject bearable and easy. He tends to make a lot of mistakes in arithmetic but otherwise is very passionate about his subject and effective in teaching. I barely had to study outside of class and his exams are pretty easy!
Great guy, super knowledgable, loves to make jokes. He takes notes on a chalkboard which makes it impossible to review notes after class. Attendance is not mandatory since lectures are ECHO recorded. Overall, take this class with Professor Andersen, you won't regret it!
Literally reported students without contacting anyone beforehand, ((during a pandemic)) of academic dishonesty. For an open notes test. Open. Notes. Andersen simply does not care about his students. He is not effective in teaching material. Lectures are absolutely painful. He never accepts fault. Never take him, especially during a pandemic.
Do urself a favor. Dont take this prof
Absolute disgrace to SBU. Is not understanding or approachable. Takes years to go through one problem- after erasing everything five times. Dont think he even knows what hes doing
This online class things not for him. Doesnt care about students. Thinks hes funny. Will email you to not email him whenever you ask for help
DO NOT TAKE!!
Andersen is amazing! His lectures are really easy to follow and he makes the material super comprehensive. His exams are really easy and super fair. The hw is assigns is thick but you do learn a lot if take the time to do the assignment.
such an amazing professor! lectures are super easy to follow and his tests are extremely easy.
An embarrassment to this university. Went out of his way to make his students lives more stressful. Very two sided here, people that have taken him in the past have not experienced his online class. He was very smug when he said he reported many students and hes that hes not open to discussing anything. Avoid at all costs.
Clearly does not care about students. Please reconsider a different professor :(
This guy is being petty during this coronavirus chaos. He is being crazy, where other professors have been trying to be so helpful. Do not let him alter your perception of SBU, but watch out for professors like this. Try to find the good ones, they are rare but they are out there.
I cant even express how stressful it is to have such a bad professor rn. Andersen is the worst. Plz choose khan or someone with a heart
if andersonn was last prof on eath id drop out
Dont let the positive reviews fool u cause he doesnt care about students!!!!! During corona times he got worse
Professor did not adequately prepare students for final exam. Stated it would be "easier than the review sheet," when they were both equal in terms of difficulty. Review sheet simply had questions copied from the textbook, which did not give students a good idea as to how the final would look like. Professor was also poor in communication.
Professor does not realize the hard moment we are facing during this time period. All his lecture are a complete mess, and takes him a long time to elaborate one question in which he struggle. I wonder if it takes a professor an hour and 14 min to answer one question, how is it possible for a student to answer it on a exam?
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR PERIOD, YOU WILL REGRET TAKING HIS CLASSS
Plz srsly reconsider esp if classes r online. not worth it!!!!!!!
Did not prepare student for the finals, really inconsiderate teacher. One of the worst experience and classes
He is one of the best Professor I ever had. Please take his class and do the homework. All the midterm and final questions comes from review problem.
Agree with not being prepared for final. Wish the class adjusted better to online but very disappointing after spring break!
This man bragged about reporting 25+ students to the academic judiciary during a pandemic
Nothing positive to say. Not great at teaching and not very nice person. Reconsider taking his class at all costs
Save yourself take another prof. Inefficient instructor and personality doesnt make up for it
A professor who abuses his power and likes to see his students not do well. When his class was in person he was much better, but even when it was he would take the whole class time to explain one question. He was often times not nice and called us "babies" when everything got moved online.
the only two words that describes his course: Cannot teach. Mumbles over his own words, lectures are all over the place and he is rude beyond belief. Avoid at all costs.
Such a great Professor!
He cares, that much is evident. However, he has two big flaws as a professor: He loses track in class and often gets his own problems wrong. Students tend to have to correct him on a mistake he made, which he wouldn't have caught otherwise. This happened throughout the semester, all the way up until final review. So just pay attention, be careful.
Calc is always a hard class, but Andersen is funny, kind, and really wants his students to succeed, which is reflected in the grading policy. You have to work hard, but he's always happy to answer questions and make things as easy as possible.
you could tell he has a very sweet heart. I took his class last spring semester and although he messed up a couple times, he took the time to fix his wrongs and make sure everybody else knew what happened. He can be tricky sometimes because he doesnt get through the whole lecture but he is very sweet. He showed lots of tricks to help aswell.
He is a very boring lecturer, however if you ever need help , just talk to him in office hours and he is very helpful and explains the content to your understanding.
Doesn't teach the stuff on the tests. Hated having him as a professor someone should fire him
Professor Andersen really isn't that bad but it also depends on how good you are with math, if you are someone who struggles with math then I don't recommend him. We were behind in his class compared to other professors so i had to teach myself the stuff on the HW's. he also doesn't break down everything completely he expects you to know things.
Most of the time I was pretty lost in his class but that's on me, I don't think his teaching style is helpful to me. Even so, what I DO understand sticks by me and his ways of memorizing formulas is silly and definitely helps me remember what they are. 5 quizzes worth 40% and final worth 50%, literally review every homework before the test!
