He's done it all. He teaches, he practices, and he used to teach kindergarten!!
Great teacher!! He gives interesting and informative lectures.

The absolute BEST teacher every. He can make even boring things interesting. I've had him 3 semesters now (200, 285, 380) and I'm going to miss him next semester. If you can take any class with him, DO IT!
awesome guy!!practicing clinician that brings his street smartness into the class.sometimes a talking Hallmark card, but you leave the classroom with the feeling that you learnt something about human psychology + stays with you after taking the class
Great lectures! Make sure you do the readings for the exams though. He sometimes asks specific questions from the readings- but overall, if you do the reading and go to class you can learn a lot and do well in the class.
He is not an easy teacher, you need to take notes in class and pay attention as well as read the book in order to do well on the exams. But he's got a good humour and most of the time, interresting lectures. He takes atendance every day (10% of grade)
Dr. Anderson is the best psyc teacher I have taken. His lectures are interesting and he makes class fun. If you take notes and skim the book you should have no problem. The only thing bad is he replies to emails very slow if not at all.
great teacher, loved him!!
Great teacher. He's what got me into psych. Really easy to follow, and knows what he's talking about.
If you must take PSYC 100, take it with Dr. Anderson. He's a fun guy, but is very disorganized. We went most of the semester without syllabi. Exams are usually straight forward, but expect to put in a tiny bit more than minimal amount of studying. Good class.
Dr. Anderson is the best professor I have ever had! Very understanding, laid back. Exams are straight-forward as long as you go to class.. definately would recommend! :)
You have to take a class with him, he is fun and laid back and straight to the point. All you need is class notes and he gives examples from his work that help out a lot. Easy on the eyes too ;-)
I took psych 285 as a gfr, therefore I am a non-majour attempting to finish the elective to graduate. He makes the material clear and interesting. His exams are not overly difficult, usually quite fair, however make sure you read the text. Overall one of the better professors that I have had.
i loved his class. its a must for anyone even if your not a psych major. ill be taking more from him i enjoyed it so much.
Dr. Anderson is a great professor. He brings his job as a clinician into the classroom while describing mental disorders. His tests are very straight-forward from book and lecture. Must take notes during lecture and go to class in order to pass test, and also because he takes attendance. Overall, easy A if you go to class and read.
I would not take another class with him. He is funny and nice however his tests are hard and a good portion of your grade counts on your test scores. He is not leanent and is also picky on attendance.
Dr. Anderson is a excellent teacher. He makes lectures interesting. His tests are mostly multiple choice and straight from the lecture and partly from the book. I took two classes with him and had no complaints.
Cool guy, good teacher, a bit picky on attendance but attendance helps get better grades. Flexible with handing in assignments late, but DO NOT forget to sign in each day.

he's one of the good ones. take a class of his if you can. make sure you go attendance is a must but you won't mind sitting through his lectures. plus if he knows your name and face your good.

I actually mean to give him a poor rating, but he saitsfies the criteria for this website. If you want to take his class, REMEBER TO BRING WORK FROM OTHER CLASSES. Class is worthless and easy. It's like kindergarten. I felt like my brain was going to melt in that class. Once we learnt what the word "affect" meant, and he spent 15 mintes on it.
He's a terrific teacher. He interacts with students well and always asks for student input. He does his best to make the material understandable and does it well. He knows what he is talking about and is quite funny. If you go to lectures, you should be fine, and the readings are not that bad. Negative? Giving grades back on time, but good overall.
i loved taking Dr. Anderson's class! the material is very interesting and he lectures really well. just take notes and read the text a bit before exams and you'll do fine. if you ever need any help with the material, he is very helpful and approachable. overall a great class and great prof!! * he has been really late with exam grades this semester.
This class is obscenely easy. He hasn't told us any of our grades so far this year, and he's always really really late to class, especially on exam days (15- 20 mins late). But the exams are easy, and even if you barely read the book you should get an A. Take him if you have a heavy course load.
He basically reads the book to you so most of the time you don't have to listen. He is terrible on giving back grades. It is almost the end of the semester now and he hasn't told us our grades yet. He's nice as a person, but as a professor he's not so hot. He needs to get with Blackboard.
Most people on this page right, tests not extremely easy with short answers you must study some, but it is by far my easiest class. Dr. Anderson very nice but where are our grades and why he always late?
Easier than a middle school health class. He is unknowledgeable, and tells you stuff you knew since age 2 (in fancy words). ALWAYS LATE TO CLASS (at least 15 mins daily). The class is at 1 pm, so I have no idea what makes him so late. Bring work from other classes, and take him if you have a heavy load, because you can ignore his class easily.
This is the best professor I ever had!! Lots of fun, lectures are very interesting and his exam are not that hard! Make sure you go to his lectures and take notes. One downside is he is always late to class. But thats the only one.
I've taken Anderson twice now, and both times he has been nothing short of amazing. He's brings his experience to the course and shares stories instead of blindly reading from the text. It is important to go to class because the lecture info is featured on the test, but it is usually worth your while since he is interesting.
Science majors: don't take his classes, they are boring as heck. By brain was about to melt, I wouldn't have survived if I didn't have novels to secretly read during class. Takes attendance so have to come to class. No one found out ANYTHING about their grade till the report card. I think he never grades anything, just rolls a dice.

This was honestly the biggest waste of time in my life. He takes attendence which is the only reason I even came to class. Seriously, bring a book. You'll learn more from the computer labs and text than you will from him. Just write down what he puts on the board and study. His tests aren't too easy, but easy enough.

If you read the chapters and show up to class half of the time, you'd have to be brain dead to get less than a C. I barely put any time into this class, and I got an easy A. Also the professor is interesting, uses his experience to guide lecture, and he lets the discussion take tangents if people show an interest.
Would not help when you need it. Does not respond back to emails if they require him to do any work at all. Does not do his own grading and will not review when asked. Not a good instructor.
Attendence was required and he was always late to class even though the class use to start at 2:30. Does not response to e-mails. His teaching style was okay but the tests were really hard. If you are taking psycology for the first time i would suggest avoid him. Take someone else
good teacher. i took abnormal psych with this guy and he knows what he's talking about and he makes the class very fun, interactive, and interesting. he might be little bit hard to get in touch with but he's very kind and nice.
really really really interesting teacher. he kept the class awake even later in the evening. i have taken 2 classes with him and i plan on taking another before i graduate because he can make any class interesting.
Ha, cannot believe this guy. He thinks everyone he is teaching is an idiot, and goes over the most basic things. Secondly, there are blaring gaps in scientific logic in his lectures. A specially shocking moment was when he acutually suggested that the conscience might be located on the shoulder (seriously). He also promoted Jungian theories. Omg...
Good teacher, nice guy. Class attendance is not mandatory, but he does send around a sign in sheet. Funny, down to earth, answers each and every hand. There are three-four exams (including final), all go over basic stuff.
Nice teacher. Lectures didn't really help with the exams. Exams weren't very hard. Class was not really mandatory, passed around a sign in sheet. Understanding and not difficult person. I missed the online tests, and he let me take them after the due date. I thought I got a D on most of the exams, but I got a B in the class...didn't really make sen
attendence is mandatory but easy class and boring lectures. exams are somewhat hard. prof arrives late to almost every class and is not helpful he didn't even posted anything on blackboard until end of the semester and doesn't reply to e-mails
Good professor. Sometimes really boring. Came late to every class. I did really bad on some of the exams but got a B in the class. Passes around a sign in sheet but you really don't need to be there. As long as you read the book your set. Online exams are EASY.
No matter what the lecture is about he always finds a way to come back to the point that size doesn't matter b/c of blah blah blah... This dude really needs quit speaking about how he's anatomically challenged!
Nice, funny occasionally. Gave "pop" quizzes randomly. They were 3 questions, you could use your notes and even if you got them wrong you still got points for being in class. Going to class is worth it.
He is a very intelligent man and quite capable teacher. I really enjoyed his class and his fun sense of humor.
Great professor--keeps it interesting and engages you which you'll like if you're a psyc major. However he feeds off the classes energy so a boring class can make it less fun. Speak up in his class!! Took abnormal with him too and it was great.
Ok professor...told me I had one of the best grades in the class but i ended up with a C. Fun lectures though!
Anderson is funny and interesting. Class Attendance is counted as part of the grade. His labs and quizes are all on Blackboard, very easy to do. His tests are somewhat hard, most importantly he put stuff that he talked about or graphs that he drew in class on the test. So go to class! Besides that it was a fun class!
Anderson is a Really good teacher. Class was fun and notes that he gives you in class ARE seen and used in his exams. He is also cute ..you know ..for his age and being a professor.
Online exams are easy. Doesn't grade you're exams until the very end of semester so you won't know your grade until it shows on your transcript. Makes attendance mandatory and covers everything the book does.
Irresponsible in terms of giving back papers, always seems to be talking about sex no matter *what* class he's teaching. How does sex relate to our aggression class? Heard you have to flirt to get an A- not sure what I'll end up with then, since I haven't even talked to the guy. Mandatory attendence, avoid if you like to keep track of grades.
Very easy teacher, all you have to do is take the online quizzes show up for class and take your exams. I barely went to the class and still got a B.
Exams were fair and relatively easy, as long as you take good notes and briefly scan the chapters. However, he's rather bad with telling you what grade you have in class. Still, I enjoy him enough that I will be taking his aggression class next semester.
Lectures were fun, but the tests are ridiculoulsy hard! does not curve the grade at all. i actually read the bookk and barely made C's. but the online labs help boost your grade. pay attention during lectures and take good notes. thats the key.
Dr. Anderson is the best! I had no interest in PSYC prior to attending this course and now I plan on minoring in it! Contrary to other's comments, I never felt like he talked down to the class. He really brings the subject matter to life and is a genuine and courteous person. Do the online labs, take good notes, read the book and you'll get an A.
Lots of experience teaching and practicing psychology, he's definitely worth taking. The material is very interesting, and the tests aren't difficult if you paid attention in class. However, he often teaches out of the textbook, and you won't see your grade until grade reports are out. He's also sometimes disorganized, but overall good.
His classes are VERY interesting and fun.It is sufficient to only study the notes. But PLEASE make sure you check your grades and keep track of it. I got an A in the class, but he gave me an F. He was a big procastinator in changing it (it took him 9 months). And I wasn't the first person to experience this
I had him for psychology of aggression and antisocial behavior, he is really animated and interested in what he teaches, so it is a great class to take. He also tries to involve everyone, and has a lot of real life stories and is really funny too, I highly recommend him.
Will definetely hit on you if you are at least a semi-attractive female. Very Sleezy
he is a creeper, nice though. his tests are pretty easy and the 1 page papers are just give away points. he isnt that good about getting grades back for exams, but i would suggest this class for an easy A. the subject is pretty interesting too
You should take all is classes if you are interested in psychology.
I have taken PSYC 342, 385, 380 with him. Great Professor! He is very enthusiastic and a great lecturer. He really cares about what he does! I am trying to take another class he teaches next semester!
Very engaging professor, I'm an engineer auditing the class because my wife is in it. He is very interested in his topic and has a lot of clinical experience. He's very interested in training students to go out and fix the problems of society. Easy to get in touch with if you just drop by his office. Very considerate of students' situations.
THis teacher is awesome. He is totally passionate about his classes and will go out of his way to help you out. His classes are not hard you just have to pay attention and take good notes. He will have items from lecture on the test. I will def be taking him again.
Definitely one of the BEST professors I've had--the guy is GREAT! He has a very large knowledge base and seems to know a lot about everything--meaning, you can learn a lot from him. This class did not require much studying and exams were moderately easy. I HIGHLY recommend taking any course taught by Anderson!
Great professor! He is clearly interested in what he is teachng and keeps the students interested.
Awesome, cute professor for an older guy. Charismatic, wants everyone to do well, and answers questions well. Usually late for class and often ends early. Would absolutely take again.
Prof Anderson is a very interesting and enjoyable lecturer....however, and this is a huge HOWEVER, he is horrible at getting grades back. tried to go see him to get my grades and he always has an excuse as to why they aren't done or why he can't see me at that moment....great professor but this makes me give him a B-
He was some what interesting at times he is NOT a teacher I recommend. He was late to class, only gave us 1 grade back ALL semester (which was our 1st exam), he got off topic very easily by students, this class had similar content to his others, & he said he would give study guides before exams, did once and the others times were day/hours before
I have taken 385, 380, and 345 with Dr. Anderson and have thoroughly enjoyed all of these classes. His weakness is in organization and grading promptly, but if you go in during his office hours, he'll let you know how you're doing. He is helpful, enthusiastic and takes a genuine interest in his students' success. Definitely recommend Dr. A.
Good teacher but very disorganized and cannot seem to get grades back and doesn't seem like he cares at all. I'm afraid I won't ever be told what my grade is though I'm positive I will do well because I'm intelligent. Shows up late sometimes and doesn't give a crap lol.
So far my absolute favorite professor. He makes you actually care about the topic, and the lectures are always interesting. Class discussions are consistently insightful. My one problem, however; he's not good with giving back grades. But the good absolutely outweighs the bad.
Very interesting class, definitely knows what he's talking about and is extremely clear on what subjects he'll test you on. However, he does not hand back grades. After exams he does allow you to see an answer key, but you can only get an estimate to your grade. If you attend lectures and/or read the book, you will get no lower than a B.
Late to EVERY class inc. exams. Does not hand back ANY grades OR calculate grades before the end of the semester.
DOES NOT GIVE BACK A SINGLE GRADE!!!! U WILL HAVE TO GUESS WHAT YOUR GRADE IS. On another note I thought he was very interesting. Lectures outline info to study in the book. Easy Tests. Always makes up excuses was to why he doesnt have the grades. I WENT TO HIS OFFICE 3 TIMES AND STILL HE HAD NO GRADES JUST EXCUSES. NO MORALITY OR ETHICS FOR STUDEN
He is one of the gems that UMBC has been keeping since long who wants students to learn and to enjoy the course. Yes, he doesn't give grades back but he gives answers right after the exam to see how you have done. I'd say please be little more organized so you won't have to run back and forth. Also, I found it very rude to be late for every lecture
Amazing teacher. Highly recommended. He makes the class interesting and fun. He has a few downfalls, he is late to class, never graded anything, and was rarely around during his office hours. He is very insightful and helped me decide on my major. Read the book and split up the chapters. You'll definitely get an A or a B.
Fantastic instructor in regards to teaching the criteria of Abnormal Psychology. However, he failed to return grades, though you can attend his office hours and ask, though he may not have all the grades. I got an A easily and never knew my grade until finding out I got an A when official grades were released. TRUE!
He is fascinating and makes the class interesting. We even discussed Charlie Sheen and whether or not he was bi polar! Great class, but he is late and does not give out grades. Currently, there is only one grade up when there should be three.
It is incredibly annoying and insulting to show up for a class, and the professor does not show up until 15 minutes after class starts, and this happens every time including exams. Anderson does not post grades and does not respond to e-mails and shows up late for everything. The class is an interesting subject, which is the one reason I liked it.
He's a really passionate about the subject, but he doesn't care about returning grades unless you personally approach him either through email or see him at his office... but even then it's a hit or miss. He posted up one exam grade throughout the whole semester (out of 4) and he's ALWAYS late to class. His lectures were interesting though.
This professor is one of the worse I have ever had. He showed up for class late every class and far as I can remember he never apologized. He even showed up late for exams. He never post grades so you never know how you are doing in the course. Many students complained about how they would try to email him they would never get a response.
he's the best teacher if you really want to know about psychology. he always gives you the correct answers at the end of the exams so stick up at the end with your answer sheet. BUT don't ask him for recomendations or anything like this because he's too disorganised to fit you into his schedule and you will miss on your post grad education.
My absolute favorite professor thus far at UMBC. He really cares about his students, and is very approachable about any questions concerning the class or psychology in general. His exams were fairly easy- just a combo of class notes and things from the book. Go to class! It'll be worth it.
I read other reviews on here saying how great of a teacher he was and was shocked by that. He never returns your tests, doesn't utilize Blackboard so you never know what your grade is. He will give you a study guide but prints it out 3 hrs before the exam. It's July and he still hasn't given me my final grade for his class that ended two months ago
Wonderful professor! He is very passionate about the course. Half of the stuff is from his lecture notes and half is from the book. Make sure you read the book. So exams are fair game once you attend the class and read book.
Always late, does not give you test results, no bb, exams are sometimes not what was covered in lecture or book, gives incorrect chapters for book, terrible communicator- no email responses. stalk him to get what you need. beware
He never handed back exams. Never used blackboard. He was always late. Even showed up 30 mins late on an exam day and still held the exam.
FIVE STARS!!! Professor Anderson is a superb teacher and a wonderful man. I plan to take every course he teaches. Simply the best!
Awesome professor. Funny and keeps the class interesting!
One of the very best courses I've ever taken! Dr. Anderson has a wealth of knowledge and compassion, and he knows how to share it! I wish other Psych professors would/could teach the way he does.
great teacher.. very helpful and he always makes his class interesting.. never used blackboard but just read the chapter before class, write the papers, participate in class and you got an A
Really engaging professor, encourages critical thinking. I looked forward to going to class because the lectures were so much fun.
One of the best teacher at UMBC. Puts his heart into teaching. Late sometimes for a few minutes, but still manages very well to cover everything on time . I would rather have a professor who is a few mins late but gives great/interesting lectures than to have a prof. whose always on time but gives boring, worthless lectures. He is amazing.
late for class, didn't have test papers for test, waited half hour.study guide isn't posted until day before exam.Projector is hard to see. occasionally goes fast.He is entertaining and the subject is very interesting.Recommend reading the book for better details. Not much extra credit.Doesn't give tests back until after you already took the next one.
Easily one of the best professors I've had. Very engaging and often brings up actual cases of his in reference to the material.
The best psych professor I've had at UMBC. It's a shame it's my last semester or I'd take more classes with him. He's easy to listen to, interesting, clear, helpful... sometimes he's late to class but no big deal. His exams are easy if you use his study guide. And for 2 of our exams he let us make cheat sheets. Great professor!
I've had a few classes with Dr. Anderson- He's a nice guy, just don't take psych assessment with him (or anyone). He's disorganized, but helpful, and an engaging lecturer.
He's a nice guy, but his very unorganized. Lets you have a cheat sheet for 1 exam and you can view the exam answers after the exam out in the hall. It was a horribly boring class for me and he mostly goes by the book. He assigned a paper to us due on study day and we had class the day before thanksgiving. Not a huge fan.
Robert Anderson is a phenomenal teacher. He makes all subject matters interesting and prepares and grades exams fairly. Highly reccomended.
Didn't get syllabus until month after start of class with dates messed up.Don't leave class after 15 especially for exam.Never posts grades or anything on BB.After test check the key with your exam to know your own grade. One easy paper.he will basically use old slides from other classes,it can be repetitive.Book not used though, but helpful 4 exams.
Class consists of mostly lecture without any visual aids. Can get very boring and repetitive. Tests have absurd questions you would only know by writing down every word he says. Doesn't tell you your grade, doesn't respond to emails. Very disorganized. Class itself was easy as long as you attend lecture and read textbook.
Dr. Anderson makes class really interesting. In my honest opinion, the class is super easy, but some people feel like its hard. All I do is read the book and go to lectures. Make sure you go to class because a lot of what he says will be on it. Just read and go to lectures, and you'll get an A.
Dr. Anderson never uploaded BlackBoard or a syllabus. If you are the kind of person that likes professors that are organized, this is NOT the professor for you. He is overall a decent professor, except for his disorganization.
Grades are usually based off of a few exams and attendance. Exams are by the book and lecture. He has issues with grading the exams and posting grades. He is generally an okay guy but seems to take on too much.
Easy class. Good and clear instructor; if you attend class you'll always do fine on the tests. As others have said, kind of disorganized and showed up late pretty often.
Good professor that's passionate about the topics he teaches. Comes from a metacognitive perspective, and tells you like it is in real life. Not always the most organized, but if you attend class then you should be fine. Wants his students to succeed and learn.
So disorganized, which was annoying. Prof. Anderson himself seems very interesting. Physically reminded me of Dr. House, but much nicer, but not as fit. If you're into older and intelligent, slightly off men you'll enjoy this class (;
Loved this class. He can be a bit disorganized, but it's not overwhelming or to the point where it interferes with your school work or grade. Very interesting person and class. Really cares about his students. If you're into older men, take his class: he's not too bad to watch and listen to for a few hrs ;)
Yes, he is a little disorganized like some of the others have stated, but he is an overall great professor. Really cares about his students and the class was fun! He is also easy on the eyes:~)
Dr. Anderson is the best professor that I have had in my college experience. He is passionate, knows something about everything and is always available to help. While he doesn't have a syllabus or blackboard, he is very clear of his expectations. He is an amazing professor and I would recommend that everyone should take a class with him.
Phenom prof!!
Anderson is seriously disorganized. This class lacked structure and on exams he asked specific questions about things he went over vaguely. He makes little sense sometimes. He really knows his stuff, he is just super disorganized--no syllabus, never opened blackboard, never told us our grades.
Doesn't use blackboard, but he doesn't need it. Doesn't update grades, but he gives you the exam answer key after the exam, so it's easy to keep track, and you can go to his office anytime to get your grade. Exam questions are fair, pay attention, and read the chapter, and you'll get an A. Great teach overall, learned a lot more than I expected.
A little goofy
good class for easy grade
strange guy but easy
Good Professor. Very knowledgeable about material, and will take time to explain concepts. He really enjoys getting to know his students. Going to class is mandatory though, as he doesn't give a syllabus and doesn't use blackboard. He is very funny, and makes his lectures interesting so I enjoyed going to class.
OMG boring and thinks he's cool.
He is an amazing teacher. Does not give a lot of readings. His lectures are interesting and I love attending his class. The exams are are fair. As long as you pay attention, take notes, and ask questions if you're not sure about something, you'll get a good to great grade. He doesn't go over unnecessary information like some teachers.
Dr. Anderson is a great professor. He knows his stuff. He is a little disorganized, so don't every plan on getting that syllabus or blackboard site he promises. Other than that he will make you super interested in psychology. Class goes by super quick and he is always up for talking after class. He really tries to get you to think for yourself
Really great guy that cares a lot of about his students. He doesn't use blackboard, though, and grades were entirely on tests and attendance. Tends to be a bit disorganized.
LOL he is always so disorganized.
This class was honestly the only class I really enjoyed attending. Dr. Anderson is so far the best teacher at UMBC. The lectures are fun! and included the stories from his experiences. All I did was attend his lectures and listened and an Easy A. I wished more teachers were like him. Easy tests. No homework.
Not sure I learned but had a good time
Took his Health Psych course during summer session - really interesting and intelligent professor! He gives a lot of information that you won't be tested on just because he's knowledgeable, but he's a great lecturer. Highly recommend taking his class. As long as you pay attention and read the book, you'll definitely get an A.
Yeah, he's very disorganized. He'll promise you a syllabus week after week but will never deliver one. He still uses transparencies from the 90's. And his grading criteria is a mystery. No Bb. BUT you will find him to be a very knowledgeable, funny, and highly respected lecturer who deeply cares about his students. You will not regret taking him!
Attendance is mandatory as he brings his exams from what he says in class. I read the chapters but still didnt do so well on exams, his exams can be tricky. He is not helpful outside the classroom and barely responds to emails.
The tests are based manly on the lectures an they're pretty interesting. He is very helpful but technologically challenged.
Disorganized. Will say he's open minded, but really isn't. No blackboard. Grading criteria is a complete mystery.
He is very intersting, no homework assignments, his exams are based mostly on lectures but there is a lot of book stuff too. He have to either email him or go to his office hours if you want to know your exam grades though, I don't think he knows how to use blackboard.
The class is not simply on personality. You basically get a taste of each psych theory and the tests are based on the group of theories that were studied: Psychoanalysis, Behaviorism, etc. He's very available at office hours. Your Grade Showing up actively taking notes + Reading Multiple choice tests; Final Old questions + Last topic
He was passionate about the material, but not organized, clear, or had good communication. Tests were hard no matter how much I reviewed my lecture notes or read the textbook. Random questions on the test that most students were stumped on. His grading criteria is awful. Barely passed with a C. Interested in the class, but never taking him again :/
The class was amazing, lectures were wonderful and I learned so much. I never received any grades even though I asked over and over again. I studied my butt off and in the end, without receiving any grades, I get a final official grade of a B. I guess the tests were hard? Didn't feel like it. Great professor, horrible grading criteria.
Dr. Anderson is an excellent professor. But he is also disorganized. We did not receive the syllabus until a month into the semester. Very knowledgeable and uses his clinical skills to teach the course material.
Dr. Anderson was one of the best professors I have ever had. He is more than qualified and he utilizes his clinical experience as a psychologist to enrich his lectures. As long as you thoroughly read your book and take good notes in class, you will excel in this course. He genuinely cares about the success of his students and it shows.
He is one of the most supportive professors I've ever had. Very knowledgeable and cares about his student. Amazing lecturer. He is disorganized and gets things out late or not at all. If you wanna immediate feedback he is not for you, otherwise he is absolutely awesome.
Super disorganized and terrible at responding to emails. He got the syllabus to us so late in the semester that the first exam had to be a take-home because he didn't give us enough warning.
I thought this would be an interesting class to take. It is a bunch of theories. Dr Anderson is very disorganized and is scatterbrained. I had to write my own notes. If you do not need this class, I would highly suggest not too. We did not get our syllabus for the class until about a month in the semester. He takes a long time to grade things.
I would not recommend Dr. Anderson. If you can, avoid him. He is very disorganized and tests on things that are not covered in class or in the book. We did not receive a syllabus until after our first exam. Not good.
He is a fantastic and hilarious lecturer. The only issue is he is SO disorganized, he doesnt use BB or respond to emails and tracking him down (EVEN during office hours) is very hard. Also puts things on exams that were not covered in class so READ THE TEXTBOOK, every chapter. I will be taking another class with him because he is an amazing person.
Do not take his class. Our class did not receive a syllabus until after the second exam. His lectures were ok, but they were all over the place. He is very disorganized and does not post on Blackboard. He does not respond to emails. He seems passionate about the subject but does not know how to teach that information to others. Just avoid him.
grading criteria arbitrary, says class is discussion-based but lectures the whole time, inaccessible outside of class, not helpful. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
This class has no real structure which will have you questioning for each exam what will be on it. He gives no assistance at all & do not bother sending emails because he will not answer them. My suggestion is to just avoid taking Anderson by any means possible! It will save you soo much time.
We NEVER got a syllabus so grading was a COMPLETE mystery. Exams were announced less than a week in advance. If you care about your grade, your sanity, and your schoolwork, do NOT take this professor!!!!!
Says there will be extra credit on exams but unclear whether or not it is actually factored into the grade. Tests heavy on things from readings and random things said in lecture. Have to go to class and participate a LOT to get an A, but he will cut you off halfway through whatever you're saying. Not a good professor. Take someone else.
DR. ANDERSON IS AWESOME!! I love him! He's my prof. for two classes this semester. I learn a lot in class. He's a really amazing professor and you really get the vibe that he's awesome as a person too. Really makes you wanna actually "buy him that beer" and listen to his stories lol. He's a gem
Really one on the best PSYC professors and a genuine person. Treats you like smart capable adults so don't ask for a study guide. Read and take notes during lecture and you will be fine.
Your grade will be based off of 4 exams and the final, that's it. No classwork, homework, or anything else that could possibly boost your grade. Those exams are based off of the textbook, but are also heavily lecture based so if you miss a class, your grade will suffer. So be prepared to study A LOT and be frustrated when he never posts your grades
Dr. Anderson was an amazing professor. Do not think you can just go to class and not read the textbook or vice versa because you will not do well on the tests. If you take notes during lecture and read the textbook chapters assigned in the syllabus, you will do fine! I went to him a few times with extenuating circumstances and he was caring/helpful
Some really good students love this professor, while others do not. I personally find his lectures amazing (take notes!) and the emphasis taken off the grading/hw/exams to be a good thing so I can focus on really learning and digesting the wealth of knowledge he presents. If you are intellectually present in class and reading you'll be fine on exam
This is the second class I have taken with Anderson, and as long as you know how he works, it's not that bad. You will never get a syllabus. He will never post grades on Blackboard. His lectures are AMAZING, but do not expect him to hold your hand. If you need organization, do not take his classes.
Professor Anderson is a really amazing person. His classes are fun and very insightful. He teaches what isn't in any textbooks to prepare us to be clinical psychologists if that's what we want to do. He is very explicit about criteria and what he expects from us and gives us everything we need to pass the test. Show up, participate and you're good.
Your grade is comprised of 4 exams and a final. He does not give a syllabus, doesn't use Blackboard, give out study guides, or give any information about exams or course work. He really knows what he is talking about and is very interesting to listen to, but if you're like me and need some level of organization, do not ever take a class with him
Professor do not provide extra credit opportunity. For Psyc 345 there are just 4 exams and 1 finals paper. Attendance grade is also counted. His exams are mostly based on his own lectures so if you will skip any lecture then chances are that you might get some questions wrong on exams. Exam questions are not straightforward. You need to study hard!
Make sure you buy the textbook. You do not need it for a while in the beginning for the 1st exam but every other exam you will need the book. Go to class and pay attention to the lectures too. He does repeat the same stories over and over, but he does give amazing and important lectures. This class has been my favorite psychology class at UMBC.
He's a great lecturer, but your grade is comprised of 3 exams and attendance. The exams are based on lectures and the textbook. He never once posted grades on Blackboard, so you'll have to go to his office hours if you want to know your grade. Overall, he's a good professor and his lectures are very engaging.
Dr. Anderson is the most unorganized professor at UMBC. We're supposed to have 4 exams in his classes, but we are more than halfway through and only had one. We still don't know our grade for that one either. With that said, I love his lectures. He gives amazing life advice and he is so inspirational. If you like organization, don't take his class
no homework. few tests. DOES NOT USE BLACKBOARD. You won't know your grade unless you go to office hours and ask about it. No clear syllabus too. Despite this annoyance, he's an amazing professor you should take at least once. His teaching style is very collaborative, leaving space in lectures to talk about what students are curious about.
I wanted to give him a higher rating, but I have to be honest about his disorganization. What should have been a very straightforward class was complicated by lack of a syllabus & a refusal to use Blackboard. He asks things on the test that we never went over in class. He's a great colleague or mentor, but I wouldn't want him as a professor again.
Very caring professor. Class was graded by only 4 exams. One was take-home, two were open note/book. Although attendance isn't mandatory, you have to attend class to do well. He overs material that isn't in the book. Great guy, hilarious. Only bad thing is he doesn't use Blackboard and you have to go to his office to see your exam grades.
Dr. Anderson was very disorganized. He doesn't use Blackboard at all so you never know your grade unless you go to office hours. He rarely emails back, and there are so many people that go to his office hours, that he can't spend as much time on you either. He is a good mentor and cares, yet his classes were all over the place & was constantly late
As a person Anderson is great, as a lecturer, he is captivating. As the runner of a class however, he is poor. 5 exams and a final for grade. Is not got with technology and basically went AWOL for 6 weeks on the middle of the semester. In person lectures are enjoyable but you have no idea what the important parts are which make exams difficult.
Dr. Anderson is amazing! You can tell he knows what he is talking about and is super passionate about what he does. Since the class I took with him was fully online, it was not too difficult. As long as you take really god lecture notes and have the textbook, you'll pass. He's also just a really cool and inspiring guy.
Dr. Anderson is a great lecturer. He won't be everyone's cup of tea because he doesn't have much of a class structure and at least in person classes weren't powerpoint heavy, more pictures than bulleted points. If you go through the study guide, sometimes he gives them only the day before, you should be fine. Online exams were open note.
This is my second time taking Anderson, except this time through a winter session. Once again, he did not disappoint. His enthusiasm for the subjects he teaches is incredible. Grade consisted of 3 exams, 1 group project, two discussions. Piece of cake. His exams are heavily based on lecture and mostly common sense.
He's tech inept, but one of the most interesting professors in the Psychology department. Because he's such a mess (late to class, tech difficulties), he's very lax with students. However, he's a genuinely kind and funny person and creates a very open participation environment during lectures.
Dr. Anderson is by far one of the (if not the) best professors I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Anderson's class can be overwhelming at first but is worth it in the end. His teaching style is unique and you will learn a lot. He's always willing to meet students after class. I can not recommend him enough! Trust me he is worth the chance.
Assigned a surprise final paper (also had an exam) at 5:30PM 1 day before the end of finals week. I missed the email (so did 10 other students who didn't turn it in) so I got a B. Literally no mention of the assignment in the syllabus. What kind of professor assigns a surprise extra final w/ less than 24hrs to do it? Felt disrespected in his class.
the syllabus had no dates on it whatsoever besides the final exam. go to class or you won't know when the exams are (he doesn't notify students). he repeatedly told us how great his class was/how many students loved it, but due to his tangents, we didn't start discussing aggression and violence (actual course topic) until 2 months in the semester.
Professor Anderson is one of the most inspiring people I have ever met. His lectures were mind-blowing to me as he offers an insight into a variety of domains beyond Psychology, which has helped me self-reflect and grow tremendously as an individual. Attend all lectures, take notes on everything he says and ask any questions, he'll appreciate it!
One of the best psych professors at UMBC, couldn't recommend him enough. Taken during COVID, classes were online and synchronous. Your entire grade is dependent on exams and attendance/participation, but the exams are very straightforward. As long as you pay attention to lectures, you should be good to go! A very understanding and caring professor.
I loved attending Professor Anderson's lectures. They were fascinating and made me learn a lot about myself. Although you do need to take notes ALWAYS because his exams were not that easy, the wording in a few questions may throw you off as well. In addition, he is a bit unorganized, and he only grades exams in the grade book.
this man was the most unorganized professor i have ever had, and he was also impossible to reach. will be steering clear from him in the future
Dr. Andson is interesting- he's really nice and loves what he does, but do not count on him to grade discussion posts or anything that is not the graded automatically exams. 5 exams (including the final-which is cumulative) 4 exams (unit exams) are 70%, exams are worded weird he uploads exams late- many got mad. Pros: exams are open note * thread
Con: can only view one question at a time and can go back (but that's better than lockdown browser. Plus: he uploads recorded sessions. TAKES LOTS OF NOTES, we had a GroupMe so we made a shared study guide, and sometimes even that wasn't good enough even if we typed word for word. For exams, you don't know if he uses the textbook- for the * thread
for the first two exams, textbook was needed but for the others, it was not- but I still read it for elaboration. we made study guides for yourself bc he doesn't give. he once gave class on an exam day. each exam (the 4 unit ones, 70% was on 2 or 3 chapters/ his lecture)- refers a lot more to his discussion. His emails are kinda confusing *thread
he doesn't respond back so you would have to call him. on the final, the department had trouble getting ahold of him. People told me he is the complete opposite in his other classes (helpful and more organized). final is 20% worth 50 points (on everything) unit exams 70% worth 40 points. Attendance and participation is 10% but confusing *thread
5 discussion posts that are based on opinion but don't have points or grades yet. kind sounds bothered by us at times- doesn't apologize. exams are a mix of multiple-choice and matching. Good luck taking him, apparently you don't know what kind of professor he is in which of his classes
* Thread, a few people dropped out. timing and wording on exams need to be improved. BUT he means well and is so nice when you talk to him, just his delivery's not good and we all thought ourselves more and helped each other out
Taught* ourselves more
I like the professor and class, I do not want to seem hard on him because he's a good guy and can tell he has good intentions but he needs to change some things so that we are not frustrated *end of thread
*Summer class* Professor Anderson was a good professor. He would get a bit annoyed at ppl for not participating. There were 4 exams, a final exam, 6 discussion board posts, and a participation grade. You can pass by listening and taking notes on his PowerPoint, some exam questions did ask about the book we had to read. Easy, if you put the work in.
Intense and informative, probably one of the best psychology professors I've ever had. I took Dr. Anderson's summer course and honestly, the best way to pass this course was to actively participate (or else he'll call on you). I'd love to take another course with him tbh.
I've taken multiple classes w/ him I enjoyed his teaching so much. Hes very knowledgeable in the field and has lots of experience that help explain course concepts. Inspirational and very understanding as long as you put in effort. Make sure you pay attention in class. If you love to learn and want diverse takes on psychopathology, take him.
I really struggled to enjoy this class. He never gave out a syllabus or explained clearly what we will be graded on. He claimed that this was going to be "experiential" but then just lectured every class, we only covered psychotherapy models in the last few weeks of class and it all felt very rushed. If you like structure don't take this class.
I love Dr. Anderson, one of my favorite professors I have ever had. He is so knowledgeable in the field and will do everything he can to help you reach your goals. The personal stories that he shared throughout the semester allowed us to get a first hand perspective on psychological terms and treatment types. Overall an amazing person!
He's a great professor, and he's really good at keeping you engaged by having stimulating lectures. Will take him again soon.
Intense but fascinating class with Prof. Anderson. Take diligent notes and use resources like Unstuck ai for exam prep - the wording can be tricky. Engaging lectures, but be ready to participate actively.
Professor Anderson is so awesome. He is one of the best Professors I've taken at UMBC so far. Class requires your attention but he keeps the students engaged and the material is incredibly interesting. Very few graded assignments so make sure to do well on the exams. I'd absolutely take another class with Anderson. &Very approachable for questions
Dr. Anderson is a great psych professor! He is lecture-heavy, but extremely in touch with his students in a way that is engaging, and teaches me more than any other class. I truly feel Dr. Anderson is setting me up for success in the field of psychology. Definitely would take again.
very lecture heavy, strict to following the slides. although professor anderson is strictly attached to the slides, the lecture does not feel clear, as he likes to ramble a little. he is very caring and will allow lots of wiggle room. makes personal relationships with students and tries to improve.
Dr. Anderson is an amazing professor! I genuinely enjoyed his course and would definitely take him again. Only thing I would say that is a downfall for him is that he is a slow grader and does not post his slides, so make sure to take good notes! Other than that great professor that is funny and caring! I recommend everyone take one of his classes
Anderson is a wonderful professor with a rare and valuable attitude about teaching. No content on blackboard throughout the semester, nor any grades but the only thing you really need to worry about is showing up to class, which is very doable because his lectures are truly worth coming to. I highly recommend everyone take a class with him!
Professor Anderson makes lectures enjoyable which is helpful. There are a few discussion posts throughout the semester, and he keeps track of attendance. But other than that, the grade is based on exams, but the exams aren't too hard! And they are open note/ open textbook. Professor Anderson was great!
I passed this class with flying colors and rarely ever showed up. All he does is lecture, and it's hard to follow because it isn't entertaining. No assignments, quizzes, projects, there wasn't even a syllabus. Can also be a bit touchy physically which is super weird...
He is one of the best professors in the Psychology department. He is very caring and understands that things happen. He had 4-5 discussion posts and 3 midterms. Attendance was mandatory, but his lectures were fun to go to. He is also a great mentor to ask about psychology. Highly recommended!!!
An amazing professor who goes above and beyond to make the course as simple and understandable as possible, so everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Grading is clear & straightforward always respectful and professional. His advanced knowledge makes the course engaging, and his teaching style shows his expertise. Truly an outstanding professor!
This class is truly phenomenal. The professor makes the material as straightforward as possible. His lectures are clear, and the exams reflect what is taught almost word for word. He is not only an exceptional instructor but also an inspiring individual. He is clearly knowledgeable, personable, and with a great sense of humor. Amazing professor!!!
Dr. Anderson is such a nice and chill professor; I 100% recommend taking him! This class is lecture-heavy, so participate and write down notes on what he says (it'll help you for the exams). There are a few discussion posts (I believe at max 5), and the exams are open-note on Blackboard; you can take them anywhere.
I understand why Dr. Anderson has high ratings—his classes are easy and interesting—but there are several issues that seem to get overlooked. He is unreliable, physically touchy, disorganized, repetitive, irresponsible, etc. We didn't even have a course syllabus for the first week of class.
Great, engaging lectures. A bit disorganized and a little unclear on grades-- we didn't get a syllabus until approximately 2 weeks into the semester. Also said we would have discussion posts throughout the semester but we only had 1. Overall, in terms of learning the material itself, great professor albeit a little disorganized.
