This is my second class with him. He is fun in class, his assignments are not too bad and he makes English as interresting as possible, which is an accomplishment. He is a great guy and a great teacher.

Professor Arend... is one of the best english teachers I had so far at Miramar. He is easy and makes the doing the essay's and quiz's/tests fun. You'll get a good grade in the class as long as you keep up... and dont slack off.

A pretty easy A as long as you keep up. Teaches the fundamentals of writing poetry & short stories but seemed to lack any real substantial development. A good beginners course !!!

Dr. Arend is an awesome teacher. His grammar lectures are helpful, and he assigns interesting readings. Just read what you are assigned and you will do great. He is very understanding and will help you if you have ANY concerns. GREAT CLASS!!

Dr. Arand was an EXELLENT teacher he makes learning English a great learning experiance. He will help you in anyway he can. He is very organized and motivates you unlike other teachers that stress you out more.

really fun class. definitely think about topics before giving speech because it'll make you less nervous. really cool guy and the grades really is a reflection on how well you do in his class. very clear on his objectives so make sure you have everything he asks for (outline, videotape, notes, etc...)

GREAT TEACHER! He was a very helpful and understanding instructor. He always made class very interesting. His lessons are easy to follow. He made time for any questions I had during or after class. He even worked with me on my scheduling conflict regarding childcare and class attendance.

Great Teacher. If you want to get an A take his English 101 Class. Class is laid back. Not that many essay to write. Not much reading either. His teaching method is sometimes boring but that doesn't matter he's easy.

Not boring at all. In fact, he is the most dynamic teacher I have had at Miramar. And he knows his subject well. Tests are hard, but listen in class and you will be fine. Best English teacher I have ever had

If you want an A take his class. The students do the teaching. You can't get a grade lower than an C. No homework beside preparing your speech. Couple of easy quizes. Helpful teach and easy.

You have to keep up with your reading of essays which he quizzes on in order to get an A. He does require you to turn in a final paper, but he gives small assignments that assist with it's completion throughout the course. Eventhough some of the lectures can seem monotonous, you have to pay attention in order to take good notes on punctuation and what not.

hes a very good teacher. have to be ready to put some work in, but its not too bad. hes funny and he knows what hes teaching.

One of my favorite teachers. He knows his stuff, and he is kind, patient, and helpful, even after class is over. He is one of the best I have ever had.

Make sure you read the book. He grades fair, but not easy. He grades by decimals. A 5 point speech where 5 points is A+, 4.8 points is an A and so forth. I got A's on every single speech and still got a B in the class due to all of the decimals points adding up. Do the xtra credit cuz it'll help.

Excellent teacher! He made english fun. I highly recommentd him. He is funny and makes you laugh. If you do the assignments and read the articles he assigns, you will do well. He is very encouraging and is one of the best teachers and Miramar.

Prof. Arend is awesome in this subject. If you have ever wanted to take a Creative Writing class take it with him. I give him an A+

Prof. Arrend is very nice, but he requires you to do several speech. You won't have problem with his class as long as you prepare you speeches and practiced them before delivery.

Nice, and wants students to do well. I would have liked him better in any English class except for Creative Writing, because he often bored me. But other than that, the class was okay. You learn the basics, and do A LOT of writing activities. There are 3 poems, 2 short stories, and a journal. Sounds easier than it is, so don't procrastinate!

Speech is fun with Dr. Arend. He teaches well, and he is gentle with his comments on our speeches. It's a lot of work, but the class is organized well.

Bob is a great teacher! I was one of the many people who did not look forward to signing up, but I am so glad I did. He is a nice guy, somewhat grandfather-ly, yet hip and fun. He explains things well and does want you to become better speakers. You give about ten or so speeches. It may seem like a lot, but it's all worth it.

Engl/Spring - There is a lot of writing in this class. Lots of essays, journal entries and a research paper. He has a dry sense of humor and tells jokes but no one ever laughed at them during the entire semester. He quizzes after every assigned reading. Don't miss much class because you will fall behind with the essays and journals. He was ok

Professor Arend is on the schedule of classes for next semester again. I wanted to take him before he retired, so I'm definitely enrolling in his class. I had him before and he is awesome!

I took his class last year. It was the best review of English I have ever had. He knows his stuff. Tough grader at times, but fair. I got an A but I had to write a lot of paragraphs. Very proffessional teacher.

Very helpful whenever I wanted to talk to him. Our class was almost all non-native speakers, and he made English understandable for us. He is funny and likes his students.

Good professor, he gives lots of opportunities for the students to speak and improve their ability to prepare and deliver speeches. He assigns a lot of speeches, but the practice alone makes it worth it. His assignments are easy and I got an A in the class without having to really put forth much effort (except for preparing my speeches).

Dr. Arend is a very reasonable instructor. HE grades fair and makes him self available to his students. He has a great way of making this class an enjoyable experience. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

He is a very kind professor and wants you to succeed. There is quite a bit of reading so don't get behind or it will affect your quiz scores. There are many speeches, with 3 major speeches. The class is fun and becomes a safe environment for those who have a fear of public speaking. Many chances for extra credit. He's tough but fair. Take his class

He was a great professor! I highly recommend Eng 101 with him! Makes class interesting and enjoyable. Very helpful, but you just need to ask. Does take concern for his students and shows interest. Always starts class with passing around fun little comic strips . He has a fun sarcastic humor.

He was a great teacher for this course! I took this class previously with a different teacher and dropped out. His energy and love for teaching is great and makes you want to attend class. Always very helpful. Only problem was grading points was strange. If you get all A's on your speeches you still might not get an A in the class.

Overall a good professor and a fun class. Speech is not for everyone but he made it easy. He seems to grade cute girls with a little more ease so if you are cute, take his class! He also teaches English and I would take that class if available.
