I don't care for the appearance thing...think what you will. But his one on one teaching approach is really cool. He's got a good way to make sure you remember things for class.

I did not have him as a professor but he helped out with a lab for 1106 and was so much more helpful than Dr. Erickson. I wish I would have taken my class with Dr. Barni!

I cannot sing his praises enough. It was only Field Bio but he really went in depth. It was also the best Biology class I had since I was a kid. A couple of the field trips could have been brutal but were always enjoyable. He is enthusiastic and love questions and discussions. He's gotta be the best prof in the Sciences here.

He is a good, helpful and enthusiatic teacher for anyone who studies hard. His tests just base on what he lecture in class. If u try to read the book before coming to class and listen his lecture carefully, you will easily get A without any extra points.

Very laid back and helpful. Get to know him in his office hours and show him you truly want to learn and he will reward you by fairly grading you - he takes into account the effort you put into his class! He is generally very prepared for classes as well!

Barni is great if you decide to apply yourself. I've gotten A's on 2 of 3 tests and expect to finish with an A. Study your notes for each test and you will do fine. Should you not get an A, you have yourself only to blame. He is really straight forward.

Barni is a very knowledgeable teacher. He is a kind and understanding teacher. Although he will help when asked, it is all on you to do well in this course. STUDY and do the LABS. Barni will go over terms and concepts in class but will not necessarily provide you with a clear picture of how they all come together. This is important for his exams.

Barni has got to be one of the best profs there. He's almost always happy and totally stoked for the subject. Exams heavily referenced notes, he writes very good notes on the overhead so use them. Barni will also hammer on important topics with abreviations ie IPMAT (Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telephase), use them and you'll succeed

He's a great teacher. Mr. Barni knows the material very well. If take good notes and read the text, 98% you will get an A. Also attend the lab weekly and spend two to three hours per week because it is required. Other than that the only to blame is yourself if you don't pass the class. Fantastic, encouraging, charismatic teacher!!! I actually looked forward to going to his class.(I know... crazy huh?!) Don't underestimate the tests- very tough! (I'm an A student and I thought the tests were tough!) If you study and go to class, you can do well! Though taking notes was most important, it helped to read the book for understanding.

Wonderful professor, but his exams are very difficult. You must understand not only terms and vocab, but the way each topic relates to everything else. Very helpful in lab. This man made me want to be a biology major.

This teacher is the best biology teacher! His explanations are very clear and he makes the class very fun to attend. If you attend all lectures and stay on top the reading, and try your best, i think you can get an A. Its not impossible. I recommend him among other biology teachers at normandale.

Having a biology class with Robert is like getting taught by a friendly but exacting specialist in the subject. If he offers the class a possibility of extra credit, take it. It is very hard to get an A in his class but if you stay on top of the material and assignments, it's also hard to fail.

Professor Barni is the best teacher I have ever had period. I had a family emergency in the middle of the semester and was gone for a month. He helped me with the material I missed, and let me finish the class. Biology is not walk in the park but if you work for it you can get a satisfactory grade. I highly recommend him.

Very good professor if you attend each class, it is very possible to get an A. I was studying from his notes for each tests went over the labs carefully to perfect them and that was my way for an intermediate A. (by the way we had lab practicals at that time which was harder than the lab test they currently require).

Barni is an amazing teacher! I'm honestly not even in his class and he helps me more than my actual professor. He goes out of his way to make sure you understand, and is friendly and humorous! I highly recommend biology with Barni!!! :)

Bob was a great professor. His quizzes and tests were self-explanatory and the questions were all from the notes taken during class. If you show up to class and do the labs,you will do just fine in his class. Very helpful during office hours and during labs too. I would highly recommend him!

He is an awesome teacher. He knows every single thing you could ever want to know about biology. I have to admit, I am not a big fan of the way he teaches. He knows the subject so well, he kinda makes up the notes as he goes along and therefore they are not online. However if you write down what he puts on the board, you will do well. BTW test=hard

Professor Barni is a wonderful teacher. I missed a lot of school and he helped me make sure I got caught up and not only passed the class but did well. His tests and quizzes can be hard but if you read the book, attend class, and take notes you will do just fine. :)

Barni for sure knows his stuff. Thought the class was difficult but lectures are super interesting. Tests are tricky, so that's why its important to remember things he says by taking good notes and listening. Always there for office hours and responds fast to emails. Take him if you're a serious learner. This is college! :-)

Biology is NOT an easy subject, period!! Bob Barni made the lectures interesting and fun. I would NEVER want to retake this class but if I did, I would take Barni again in a heart-beat!! He is a great instructor teaching a difficult course and he does his job extremely well!

Material is very complicated, but Barni does a very good job making sure you understand everything. He is very helpful! Always answers questions. Tests and quizzes are not very easy, but if you do well on labs you'll be fine. ATTENDANCE IS CRUCIAL. He lectures a lot, so if you miss class it's hard to completely understand the material. Great class, I learned a lot. Come to class with your ears tuned in. Lecture is packed with info, take good notes. Read the book- and book's website has helpful animations and practice quizes. Barni's personal biological tales really color the class fun. I love Barni- but be prepared to run in his class- he will squeeze you for what you're worth.

He is so great. Discusses nearly all material that is covered on exams in lecture. The class is material is really touch but Barni explains very well. He posts helpful study guides on D2L. Gives really life examples and analogies to help remember the information. His teaching style is wonderful. Best teacher I've had at Normandale so far.

Barni is a great teacher, very approachable; his door is always open, during and after office hours. I took this class fall 2012; the exams require understanding of material. Exam 3 was more demanding (laid out in the finals format). I missed 2 points on that exam - I STUDIED! You will do well in this class, without much difficulty IF YOU STUDY!

Barni is very helpful and explains clearly. The problem with him is that he makes the class WAY harder than its supposed to be. His exams are impossible, and his quizzes are just as hard. Bob Barni has been one of my favorite teachers at Normandale! He makes the class really interesting and is able to relate the material to life situations to help you understand. He does expect grown up behavior, so once he starts lecturing, pay attention! I found his quizzes and tests straight forward and directly based on the lecture material.

Just completed the summer "Biology Boot-Camp". ALOT of material crammed into short time, but Barni is awesome at teaching it! Labs were great,teacher directed instead of "free-lab". Barni is a wonderful teacher and his classes are fun! Highly recommend! Oh, and if you take summer session,make sure you can devote ALL of your time to it to do well!

Amazing professor. I highly recommend him. Not the most difficult class as long as you pay attention, take notes in lecture and study a bit. Labs were very interesting. Bob is one of the better Bio teachers. 90% of the time he is very clear, the only things that he is not clear on is due dates for labs and online quizzes are due each week but not stated syllabus. Tests are very hard, wording is a little weird, and pay attention to the details in the questions. Study, get a tutor. Would recommend.

Very helpful and dedicated to his students. This is a course for bio majors; it's not supposed to be easy - scientists need to really think. I thought the material was somewhat elementary and found his expectations to be clear & consistent while minimally demanding. Still gives you a good foundation. Text is garbage but covers the essentials.

Very interesting lectures and overall a good professor. Be prepared for many lab exams in addition to regular exams. He likes to trick people, so be weary of the wording of his exams.

Barni is a great teacher. He's enthusiastic, knowledgeable, open to pretty much any type of student and clearly likes what he does. I would love to take his classes again. Mr. Barni is a great teacher, he knows his material very well and loves to talk more about Biology if prompted. He's energetic, respectful and is open to pretty much any type of student. Very accomodating. Without reservations, I would recommend him for any Bio class.

One of my favorite professors ever. Engaging, helpful, and funny. Not an easy class, but Bob did a great job explaining the material. I barely opened my textbook. Labs were great. Bob was funny and he seems to take a real interest in his students' lives. I wish he taught all of my science classes! Take if you can!

Barni is textbook. He loves teaching and is good at it. His class isn't necessarily easy but Bob is willing to help and wants you to succeed. The key to his class, like many sciences classes, is to ask questions. Barni loves to help and is passionate with what he does. Take the necessary time in Bio labs. Also Bob is very flexible.

Barni's alright. He's a good guy and will help if you ask for it, he will make jokes and try to make the lectures more fun and engaging. But he is a very specific grader and if you don't do something a certain way it will most likely be points docked. The tests are very hard and I advice to study for them weeks in advance.

Do not take this class if you don't love Biology. There are out of class labs every week, you are also quizzed on these labs in class so you have to do them. Read all of the chapters even though they are super long, do the self quizzes at the end too. Complete chapter concepts and terms, go to tutoring. Just work really hard and utilize resources.

Mr. Barni is a fantastic professor! He gives great lectures which are easy to follow. The material is difficult but if you are prepared to put the time and effort into this majors course you'll be fine. Ask questions and visit him in his office!

Barni is a great teacher but there are labs every week and lab quizzes on those. Make sure you don't miss a lab. The lectures are fun and I would definitely take a class with him again. Very willing to answer any questions that you may have.

Barni is a great guy and great professor. But his tests are extremely hard and specific. 50 mc questions 1.5 points per mc question and then 25 points of discussion and matching questions. Be ready for lots of lab quizzes and lots of lab assignments. It's a very tough course

Barni is always willing to help and is passionate about the material he teaches. Easy to talk to, and especially loves discussing cool stuff related to biology. Tests are tough but if you STUDY you will be just fine! I recommend making notecards from lecture notes, but you gotta really UNDERSTAND the material to do well. Dont just memorize.

Barni really cares about what he teaches, but as a PSEO student and having this be my first biology course taken, I struggled. There are certain ways to prepare for tests and small details that need to be remembered. I worked extremely hard (the hardest I've ever worked in a class) to get a B and Im a straight A student. Be prepared to work.

Barni is good at what he does. Very nice guy, but when it comes to his exams god help you. His exams were very hard and very very very specific. Take this class only if you love biology or believe you could do good. Labs were fun. Lab quizes were ok some easy some hard. other than his exams the course went well. If there are topics you're unsure about, go to his office!! He is always there and willing to help. Put in the work and he will notice. He does not like people who slack!!

he said only around 10 students get A's in the class and I believe him. Barni is a great professor and keeps you engaged by applying the information to the real world. Study everything on the handouts he gives you for lab exams and reg exams. Focus on exam 2 alot of people fail it and its really hard to get an A if you do. labs are easy.

I took BIO1105 over the summer so it was an intense but good class. You MUST show up if you're taking over the summer or you won't pass. Tests were based on lecture. Professor was awesome about answering questions - even on weekends over email. Grading criteria clear and test subjects covered well in lecture.

Bob is an excellent teacher, and is overall a very nice guy. But, his tests are VERY difficult if you don't study your buns off. Definitely one of the hardest classes I've taken. Be sure to take very good note during lecture, as the tests are very much based off of that. Take this course if you're really interested in biology/ majoring in it.

Text book is very informative, but he tests ONLY on what he talks about in lecture. Text book is not needed for the class, but it is a very good book. Gives good lectures, get ready to take GOOD notes and STUDY YOUR NOTES. Tests are extensive and his wording on questions can be confusing.

I took 1105 this past fall and Professor Barni is an awesome teacher. If I could choose him for the remainder of my required biology courses, I definitely would. Don't get me wrong, the class is VERY hard; but he explains material extremely well and you can tell he's very passionate about the subject. Show up to class, take good notes, study hard!

Great professor. He really got me interested in Biology and has a way of connecting things to our daily lives. Very understanding of student lives and knows the material is hard. His tests are difficult and he expects you to know a lot about the subject matter, which isn't a bad thing. Make sure you have a good amount of time to study if taking!

Absolutely loved being in Bob's class. Definitely makes you work for your grade, as any professor should! He is my favorite professor that I've EVER had!

This was one of the most intensive science classes I've ever had. We had labs every week due, oral quizzes (terrible) and there was an unreasonable amount covered. I LOVED BARNI! I wish I could carry him around with me everywhere. He knows just about everything and the class material was interesting just very hard.
