Barone is awesome! He may be an Ohio State fan but he's a great teacher. Very enthusiastic!
this guy is full of himself and boring!

Barone was well organized and his tests were representative of the material reviewed in class.
Very good teacher, I never feel bored in his class. He is very high strung but that adds to his ability to hold your attention. He can be very pompous but it seems that he does it to make fun of himself. Overall I am very happy in this class and recommend it very well.
Don't read the book, listen and look test materials up online
Very fun guy and very enthusiastic about his subject. Take good notes and you'll do well on his exams--he definitely appreciates DETAILS on your essays/IDs.

He's funny at times. His class was never boring, but I am quite the history buff.
Easygoing. Ask questions, poke fun at his baldness, laugh. You'll do just fine. If you don't like your grade, argue. He might make you dance or cry to change it, but he might just change it!
hes a very good teacher.
You gotta love Barone. The man is just amazing. His classes are 95% pure lecture, but it's ok cause he knows what he's doing and is hilarious. It might not be quite as much fun for republicans though.
I have had about 5 classes with Dr. Barone and he is brilliant. He is extremely intellegent and really a nice guy. The first couple of Barone exams you take are a bit difficult until you get the flow of the man. After that, his classes are smooth sailing. He lectures more than he allows for discussion but he's pretty easy to stay awake to on most days. I'd highly recommend him. I'd also highly recommend his British history classes because that is his**** and he's damn good at it!
he is a cool guy
He knows his stuff- and his class is really interesting. He's very helpful and a nice guy, but if you're a republican or a Christian and decide to say something, be ready to back it up. Every now & then he'll be sporadic- like do the splits or something... Make fun of his bald head, age, and listen to the things he emphasizes & u'll do fine.
Dr. Barone is an arrogant professor who likes the attention of teachers pets. I made an A in his class, but had to study the book to see through the misinformation in his lectures. Basically, I think he is an ignorant man who is way too full of himself.

This guy is so arrogant and you have to read the book to do well on the exams because of the misinformation in his lectures. If you're worried about your GPA, then don't take this class.

The class is completely based on lectures so take very good notes, and by the second test you will be able to figure out what's going to be on it. The test is completely essay, all you have to do is give as much detail as possible.
Dr. Barone was really good at keeping my attention. Though the class was kind of hard, I learned alot and usually enjoyed going to class.
Great guy, simply awosome for hons students
If you are a History major at UM, try to take Barone for senior seminar. We met for all of three classes, and he had us check in with him periodically. I only bought one book for one class, and I never used it. After that, any time I took a class of his, I did not purchase a book. He is really funny, and if you pay attention, you'll pass.
Dr. Barone is an awesome teacher who makes learning history fun. He's always coming up with ways to keep everyone's attention without disrupting the entire class period. If you can, you should definitely take Dr. Barone for a history class.
Dr. Barone is a good lecturer and makes history interesting, but I had trouble figuring out what he wanted on his tests, which were difficult.
Took several of Dr. Barone's classes. I enjoyed his lectures. I never read the textbooks. His tests come from the lectures.
Tests are essay format and he really, really likes detail (expects way too much though). He's very clear, funny and engaging but the difference between 101 and 103 is HUGE. If you want a easy, breeze through it history, take 101 not 103.
His class is so fun and interesting! Once you can figure out his testing style, learning the content is a breeze. This is not your average history class.
His class is so fun and interesting! Once you can figure out his testing style, learning the content is a breeze. This is not your average history class.
Great intellectual, can answer many questions you have related to the topic. Large stores of information, as well as funny anecdotes occasionally. Just don't be late for his class or he'll poke fun at you.
Awesome professor!! Dr. Barone is a very smart man and makes his class fun to be in. Don't buy the textbook, he NEVER uses it! Tests are all essay but he drops your lowest one and they're pretty easy to do with little studying. Take him if you can!!!!
Super fun class! Never used the book so don't buy it
Barone is a cool guy and his class is pretty easy. Not much to stress over. However, it is a horribly boring class at times because there will NEVER be a day where you aren't sitting and listening to him talk for 50 minutes straight. Be prepared to take notes on everything he says, and don't bother buying a book.
Love Dr. Barone!!! He doesn't use the book so save money and don't buy it. He is an awesome lecturer and tells you exactly what's on the test, which are all essay and he drops the lowest one. Take him if you can!!!
Did a special role-playing class with him, lots of textbook use for THAT. It was his first time teaching the class so it wasn't very clear what to expect and sometimes I was confused about when an assignment was due or if a paper was due at all! I'm sure he was working out the kinks. Great professor, I learned a LOT!
Dr. Barone is an arrogant and self centered man. He makes comments about women being second class. he can be funny at times. Buy the book, you'll need it for 102. His class is easy
Barone is AMAZING. I was very worried about taking History before this class, but he makes it fun and interesting. Love his funny stories. If you take good notes, you will NOT need to buy the textbook. Love Barone! Taking him again next semester!
Really enjoyed his class. His lectures great and not boring. He liked to play around with different accents when he quoted people. He never uses the book so don't bother buying. As long as you take good notes, come to class, and study them well you will do great. Tests are on what he says exactly. Willing to work with you as long as you are willing
Good professor, difficult in some ways, but you will learn a lot.
I could have done better, but he got off topic often. I'm not good at lectures, but I am a freshman and have some growing up to do with studying and note taking. His attendence isnt man. but you will need to go. Missing one day could cost you many questions of the test. btw.. take pics of the test as you go.. no study guide for final
Barone really is a good teacher. His classes are all lectures with the occasional video. Take good notes and study them and you will do fine. He has a tendency to say some arrogant or off-colored things but it is easy to get passed. Overall, not a difficult class. I would take him again if I needed to.
Barone was awesome. I've not had a good experience with history teachers, so I hated history. He made me love it. The lectures keep your attention, and as long as you take good notes and stay attentive, you'll do just fine on the test!
Test are pretty easy as long as you go to class
Dr. Barone was a great teacher. He really know his history. I would love to take his class again. He has 4 test but you get to drop the lowest. If you don't like going to class this is not the class for you.
Honestly, history is my worst subject and I hate it with a fiery passion, but Dr. Barone made history actually fun and interesting. I love his class and look forward to going to it, which is insane seeing as it's a history lecture class.
Not very kind towards religion
Mostly just talks all class. You don't have to take detailed notes but it is good to listen and write down key things. Don't bother buying the book because he won't use it. Really funny. His general ed is MUCH easier than his honors class.
I took the honors course and it really wasn't that bad, but you HAVE to study if you want an A or a B. Take detailed notes and record the lectures if you can. Don't buy the book, tests are all lecture-based and he drops the lowest test. The final is a ten page paper so be prepared for that. If you're willing to put in the work, it's a great class.
Barone is awesome. The most fun and entertaining teacher I have. Take him if at all possible!! He is a great teacher, and tells lots of stories. He is a total hoot. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you don't go you won't pass. No homework. The final is a take home paper.
Did not do too well on his first exam and then went and talked to him about it and he gave me a few extra points. Also told me he would help me figure out what the best way to study was. He met with me before every exam to make sure I understood everything. Also, he gives the class a chance to tell him if a question was unclear&gives back points
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!!
Dr. Barone is a very interesting character. He loves what he does and that is what makes his class enjoyable. As long as you go to class and take good notes you'll do fine. He also drops your lowest test grade out of the 4 tests you take. Oh and you only have 3 grades in the class, tests, which make up 20% of your grade and a final that is 40%.
Dr. Barone is my favorite professor at Montevallo. He's so smart, and very funny funny. He gives students the chance to earn test points, if a question is worded oddly. His class is very lecture heavy, but he makes it very interesting so don't worry.
Dr. Barone is a great teacher who really cares about what he's teaching. His tests come straight from his lectures so take good notes and you should easily pass. Class wasn't mandatory but if you miss a day you won't have those notes for the test. Don't bother buying the book.
I took Dr. Barone for HIST101 and enjoyed his class so much I'm taking him again for HIST102! You definitely have to go to class, pay attention, and take quality notes. But don't waste your money on the book. Your only grades in the class come from multiple choice tests and the final. But if you study your notes really well, you'll pass with an A!
Don't buy the book. This guy is crazy/awesome. Most engaging history class I've had. You will laugh, learn, and leave wanting more. Take him!
He's really the best teacher I've ever had. He made the course material fascinating. I managed to make an "A" in has class without reading the book and just taking notes; his lectures were really indepth and easy to follow. His teaching is almost like a stand-up comedy routine.
I didn't do good on his first exam and after it I went to his office and he offered to help me study before the next exam. He was a really great at helping me study, understand, and review the material he taught in class. However, if you don't read the book or take notes in class or do good with taking notes by listening to him talk you wont pass
He is really all over the place when he teaches and doesn't even teach out the textbooks. He didn't take attendance but if you don't go to class you won't know what actually rambled about. I just prefer my notes to clear so when I study them the information is efficient. His exams are multiple choice though.
Barone is great. He has an awesome personality and manages to make History not the most boring subject on the planet. The only grades you recieve in there are 4 tests and the final so definitely study.
Dr. Barone is a okay, he just talks a lot! You do not have study guides, or extra credit. 4 tests, and a final (he drops the lowest)!
Heavily lectured based, miss one day of class and youre behind. The tests are really hard. Dr Barone himself is kinda annoying and loud and has a northern accent.
Not too difficult if youre paying attention and making a real effort. He himself is pretty funny and makes the lectures enjoyable. Definitely would recommend.
If you show up, take detailed notes, re-write them, and study the class should be fairly easy. Great guy with a great sense of humor. Has lots of energy, especially in the morning. Knows content well, has taught for a long time.
He's the best teacher I've ever had. He managed to make a lecture-based course enthralling and stimulating at 9 am.
He class is based on lectures and tests but hes a great professor
I love his History class. The little tangents he gets off on weirdly have a way of relating back to the source material.
no homework. all grades are from exams. he drops lowest exam. dont need the book. all lecture, no powerpoint or study guide. pay attention (or dont honestly) & its pretty basic overview of history. no attendance grades. laugh at his dumb jokes & seem at least a little interested in his random stories & youll be good. 10/10
Dr. Barone is a wonderful professor. I took him for history 101, and I plan to take him again for 102. If you dislike homework and don't mind daily lectures, he's great! However, if you are a bad test taker, you may want to skip him. Almost every grade is from tests and exams. This was great for me, but might not be for you! Overall, amazing guy!
Doesn't use PowerPoints for upper level classes, talks super fast, and goes on rants about subject matter, so trying to grasp what he's teaching can be very difficult if you aren't CONSTANTLY at 100% full attention during class. He only had 3 grades: the midterm, giant paper, and the final. Both the midterm and the final are essay based.
Loved his grading policy. History has always been my least favorite class but this wasn't too hard because I attended all classes and studied for tests.
Dr. Barone is my absolute favorite professor! He is very interesting, he always made sure to interact with the class, and always made sure to be inclusive. His test are easy if you follow along and take notes. If you interact with him in class and be sure to speak, he will remember you, and you'll be his favorite student. 10/10 would recommend.
Dr. Barone is an amazing professor. As long as you show up to class and take notes you will be perfectly fine. Test comes straight from the lecture. There are four exams and he drops the lowest one.
Crazy old man that always talks about Chinese school children, the non-existence of aliens, and his ex wifes (plural) (one of them stole his dog in the divorce). Entire grade is three tests and a final, and lowest test gets dropped. Everyone bombed the first test in person so he moved all tests online so no one went to his class anymore.
He's funny but I literally don't learn fr. Tests are easy tho. Even though he made them go back to in person, you just study the quizlets online for his class
Absolutely insane, never had a better History professor. Some may find his rants hard to understand but I believe they serve an important role in his lectures for engaging students. I will never forget some of his stories for as long as I live. It's rare to find someone who can make their own history as interesting as real history.
Every single lecture was accompanied by at least two stories about something on mind, rambling about his past or some other event. Alongside with an improper 'slideshow', I didn't really learn anything. He also swaps between online and in-person with no warning, so be careful and study. Four exams and a final, the lowest grade gets dropped.
amazing prof, very funny and sweet. just listen to lectures and take notes. exams come straight from lectures. true or false and multiple choice 50 questions. love this guy
I hated and loved this class. Loved because it was an easy A. Hated because I learned zilch. It's only graded by 3 exams and a final. If you miss class, you'll have to ask for notes. The textbook app malfunctioned and was confusing. Dr. Barone never seemed happy to be there, only occasionally enjoyed teaching. He's strangely amusing.
He is an amazing professor, and I am taking him next semester. I have never really been a history person, hence the grade, but I absolutely loved going to his class. You only take 3 tests and your final. The lowest of the 3 gets dropped, and the final is kept. He is extremely lecture heavy, so get ready to write 20 pages of notes for each exam.
