Very poor prof overall, extremely unfair at marking.

Very hard and unfair in marking. I enjoyed his lectures though.

something is wrong with the teaching when 1/3 of the class fails a PAPER
Terrible prof., should be evaluated, Over 1/3 of class failed term paper! Bad !

BRUTAL EXAMS all essays. Would be good if in another form. KNOWS HIS STUFF 100%

worst prof ever
Ever heard of a water bottle? The hawaiian cup has got to go!
very bad class, not a hard class but he made it hard.bad marker
He is a good prof!!

he knows his stuff but he's a hard marker. His lectures make me smile

This guy is an extremely intelligent man who knows what he is talking about.

His lecture is interesting...but it is hard to get a good mark in his class
Fantastic lecturer, very interesting class.
This left winger really knows his stuff, is good at it, extremely hard tests tho
Good prof-very knowlegable-easy to listen to, although he paces back and forth!!
What's wrong with the Hawaiian cup? Water bottles have been done to death.

I'd rather chop off my own legs than force myself to walk to another one of his lectures. The tests stink too.
Excellent lectures, very smart, if you take good notes you will recieve a good mark.
Very good lecturer, always interesting and interested in subject matter. Good notes are key. Offered an interesting range of subjects for research paper.
Super interesting prof, learned so many things i wouldnt mind taking the same class again. Be ready to take lots of notes and write some tough tests.

yikes
He is a very good speaker, sometimes boring. This is not the best class to take in the morning. Your wrist will be sore after the notes for this class. Glad I am done with it!!

Interesting enough. The class is easy if you write all the notes, so many notes, yet everything seems to relate to marxism....hmmmm...
Loves to hear himself speak...he'll suck dry every minute of available class time. Will torture you till the end. Hope you love taking insane amounts of notes.
Interesting, but come on it is not capitalisms fault for everything you know? Take notes and read...have fun.
An insane amount of notes - your hand will ache by the end. All evaluations are based on essays...so if you don't know all the details you're screwed
I loved this class! it was interesting and I rarely found it boring. I would definitly take another class by him.

One of the best profs I've had at the U of R. Interesting material covered and good lectures. Most of mid-term and final material based on course lectures. Barely looked at the text.
Rob is a great prof. He gives lots of notes and his tests are essays. You get the topics ahead of time, but they require a lot of info in them. Awsome prof thoe, even if my mark wasn't the greatest.
STAY AWAY from this class. If you insist on taking it, be prepared to present your Communist party membership card at the door. Should you develop carpal tunnel syndrome and/or post-traumatic stress disorder because of it, don't say I didn't warn you.
If you're good at writing essays take this class. If not then DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!! Ok class overal, he's very Marxist though so be prepared to learn all about Marx!! (yuck!)
Very good prof!!.. Be prepared for lots of notes, if ya can get every detail than you are laughing... this guy is real intelligent and one of the best profs for sociology! (LOVE THE HAWAIIAN CUP)
He is probably one of the most intelligent prof's I've had at the U of R so far. I love to hear him speak, he has a very soothing voice.
BE PREPARED TO TAKE A TON OF NOTES!!! wow WRITE YOUR HAND OFF!!! He is very smart and can be intimidating at times.

Don't take his class, avoid at all cost, waste of $$. Hard marker for essays.
Worst class ever. He failed 11/38 people on the term paper. Very arrogant and narrow minded.
Do not take this class from him, wait for a better prof...TRUST ME!
makes expectations very clear, and has a way to make his lectures stick in your head = excellent prof if your in SCHOOL to LEARN!!
also had him for SOST 110... amazing prof... hawaiian cup is a nice touch... lots of charisma - will keep you listening
Too many notes!! Grades very hard and is not open minded when it comes to grading.
Lots of notes, and he does mark kind of hard on the essay. Other than that, I really enjoy the class - very interesting. He also gives you the exam questions before hand which is helpful. Exams are all essay questions.
I love Rob's classes. He presents all material in a very clear and concise manor. He has a good sense of humor and is very candid at times. I highly recomend him for any and all Soc classes!
Good prof: you actually feel like you're learning something, instead of just memorizing. lectures flow well and are interesting. if you work hard on essays and exams you'll do well.
well, if you're cynical in nature, you'll do great in this class. you have to hold robert's viewpoints to get good grades, so be as pessimistic as possible. if you have no problem with this, take the class! very interesting!
He never ever ever stops talking, and he expects you to write down every word he says. And you'd better do just that, because he expects every word regurgitated back to him on the exams. He's a hard marker, hands out quite a few 20%s.
Is interesting when answering questions, but lectures can get a bit dry. Take his view on issues for assignments and tests, even if you don't like it, you'll do better. Likes lots of details and facts on exams, but theres not much time so write fast!
Awesome prof. Absolutely loved him. He is very good at what he does. Its very refreshing to find a teacher that is so passionate about what he teaches. He made class interesting.
He's got good insights that really come out during Q & A - the rest of the class is straight lecture with LOTS of notes. The exams are all essays and you have to write fast and write a lot to do well. The "theory" part of the course is fascina
Robert is a very smart proff. He knows what he wants, and you better be prepared to write ALOT every day in his lectures. Very tuff marker..and you better be a quick writer because when it comes to exams you have to write exactly what he says!
Probably, he is the best prof. I ever know. he teaches with passion and know his staff. I recomend him to every one.
Lost my midterm, lost my paper....need I say more?
If you're going to take this class, DO NOT SKIP! He is a very smart man but tries to put way too much into each class and expects you to memorize it. Make sure you only give information that was asked for in the essay or you're in for a 20%!
Good class, fair marker, fast talker, long tests, not enough hands in the world to take the notes HE wants you to have but enough time to get sufficient info, very clear, very smart, knows his stuff, funny, focused, biased. Out of 10: 8
Funny little voice that tends to change to an english accent at times. He knows what he wants from his papers and exams, so just listen carefully and do it. Always come to class. Always. (exams are long, but theyre AWESOME!)
He is my absolute favorite prof! He tells youexactly what he wants on his exams and his essay. Definatly use his points of view even if you do not always agree with them, and also expect to take alot of notes in his class.
Excellent prof as long as you agree with his point of view. Very enthusiastic (hence the lengthy notes) and yes, I believe he does allow recorders in class. Specific about what he expects to see on exams. Loved his classes.
Robert is the absolute faviorite prof! He teaches with passion. he knows what is talking about. very Excellent and he does allow recorders in class. be on class on time ready to take notes. Listen to what he ask for exams very specific. take it from me I am sociolgy major and all my class are from h
This class was my single best experience at university. I have never heard anyone teach Marx’s so clear before. The man communicates theories in a way that is very easy to understand. Before you know it you’ll begin to see examples in everyday life. Talk about useful knowledge.
He is very clear, and very easy to take notes from. However, he is an extremely harsh marker, and practically wants you to memorize the hoards of notes he gives you.
he was pompous, and hard to take during his lectures. He rambles and expects you to get everything! I called to meet to speak with him and he blew me off. Drop this class immediately. I did after a month.
Nice guy, knows his stuff inside and out very clear and ocnsise on his notes, however dont miss class because you will miss alot of notes. also helpful by giving essay topics two weeks before the test, but you better know your stuff
Definetely a great prof. His teaching manners are excellent and he allows you to easily get a grasp on the subject. You have to go to class in order to do good and take a few notes, and if you do then your mark should reflect that. I would recommend him as a prof.
i have a pretty bad attitude toward school and professors, but he's actually a really good prof. his lectures are always interesting and he gives good topics for papers. on exams, he wants you to repeat what he says in lectures. luckily it's mostly pretty interesting stuff.
You can tell this guy loves his subject, which makes him very helpful - he knows his stuff back to front. VERY tough marker, but it is possible to quite well (my highest mark in his class - 88, lowest -80). Super interesting class and great as long as you pay attention and take good notes - I reccomend retyping them at home. It helps a LOT.
He lost my paper AND my midterm. Need I say more? Avoid at all costs!
The best prof. I ever cross in my life. he knows the staff very well and well have I mention he is the best of all.
Worst prof I have ever had! You'll need ear plugs because he lectures in a screaming voice. His paper is very time consuming. His tests are all essay questions. Final was easily 3 booklets of writing!! Beware... class average is always very low, and he'll belittle you if he gets the chance, so don't bother asking for help from him in this class!!
Wow! So hard! I actually ended up dropping this class 2 weeks before the final day. He talks so fast and its soo hard to get everything down and the term paper... yikes! I dont reccomend taking a class from him unless you can remember absolutely everything someone tells you!
in four years of university i have never had a teacher as bad as him. he does not actually know how to teach, and he marks as though he not only wants you to fail, but that he gets great pleasure out of it as well. i suggest avoiding him at all costs.
I think he is a great teacher. Not only does he teach you stuff you need to know, BUT he also gives you the topis of the tests. If you study for his test, it is easy to get 75%+.
he does give you the questions for the exam but he expects too much, marks you on clarity, proper use of sentencing on your tests etc(the things that you shouldnt be marked on b/c it's a test). He looks for specific important topics in test and if you dont think that they are important, bye bye mark. class avg. is 60% and thats what he wants.
What ever you do avoid this class, I can't even tell you how bad it is. He thinks his students are stupid and will treat you this way, except that he or his T.A mark harder than enyone else I have ever had. This was the last class I needed to finish my degree, what a mistake taking it.
Robert is the greatest prof.ever he give out the test topic and u better be in class every day to take notes and pain attention. because everything he said in class is important. he is hard marker he expect too much but he teaches you good and study really hard. he knows the topic he teaches very well. only essay question for midterm, final exam.
great prof. Very helpful. Has a sense of humor. GO TO CLASS AND WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING HE SAYS. Text book was useless...never used it.
Worst prof ever. He makes thing harder than they need to be. I think he does this to make himself feel smarter. Its to bad there has to be profs like this. Really, try to avoid Robert at all costs.
He gives you the Midterm Questions and Final Questions. They're all essay questions. Simple. Easy. Straight to the point. I've taken 5 classes from him and I continue to get 85% and higher by simply doing the work and going to class. It can't get any easier than that peoples.
very good teacher. hard marker but worth putting in the effort. Not much reading of the textbook, just went to class and took a lot of notes......
Tough prof for sure, midterms are too long for what is required. To his credit he is very clear as to his expectations on the assignment (start early!!!) and does give the questions before the mid term and exam. He is also helpful one on one if you come to the meeting prepared. Very intelligent and opinionated. Not ready to work? Then avoid him

Intresting proff, able to make material understandable.
Very loud talker, hard marker. Arrogant and not very helpful. Not interested in giving students clear direction in writing papers or preparing for the exams, though is pretty good at simplifying the mat'l compared to the text. In 6 years of university, one of my least favourite profs. If you want a good mark, look elsewhere.
Great professor, he is a hard prof but he is open to helping students, gives very detailed instructions on assignments and exams, will take the time to help students, very knowledgable
Horrible Horrible proff!!! Dont take this class!! He is pretty much out to fail his students. I would never take another class from him!
Very nice, easy going man, as long as you are prepared to earn your marks
Not done his class yet, but I would say it is the worst class I have ever taken. Hard marker YES. He failed half the class on our essay. He is giving us a chance to re-write though. I would not recommend him. He gives no direction or help. Unless of course you fail. Then he says he will help. Generally nice, but as a prof he is a not.
WORST PROF EVER!! I never ever had such a bad prof in all my years. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!! He should be fired!!
TERRIBLE CLASS! He is a VERY hard marker when it comes to essays on midterms and hand-ins. I also find him to be quite **** and ****. I DO NOT recommend any class from him! Unfortunately he's the only one who teaches soc 280 & 290 so you may get stuck with him. Sorry :(
whoever reads the bad comments, dont get scared. robert is good because he is clear, he outlines exactly how he wants things..follow that, and you will be fine. he may not seem approachable, but he is so nice if you go up to him. plus, half the class failed the essay because most of them didnt do the requirments that he had simply laid out.
most of the time when students do bad it seems to be from a bad teacher. But Robert gives the students plenty of oppurtunity for questions, explains the material very well, and tells you EXACTLY how to do the essay. if you do bad, its your own damn fault. very imformative and brilliant man
Straight to the point. He makes it imposible for you to not understand the material. He tells you what is on the tests and gives you a guideline for the essay. I agree with the last comment-if you do bad its your own fault. He gives you plenty of oppurtunities for questions and its up to you to ask.
Don't even know where to begin. He's biased and thinks very highly of himself. If you don't do well, it may be your fault, and it may not be. He expects WAY to much out of a beginner-level class... and p.s. he reads his own notes and basically wants you to memorize them... he does not TEACH! He reads.
This guy is ridiculous! He lectures at you.Way to high of expectations 2 essays in 50 minutes for the midterm, 5 essays in 3 hours for the final. He looks for quantity not quality, and his assignment is time consuming (start early)and he doesn't explain little things which you will loose major marks on. One of the Worst Profs at the U of R. Horribl
A good professor , but is hard to write term papers for. He knows the answers to students questions. The course is an eye opener as to what problems exist in our and what the issues are.In lectures he is critical of our society but does not push his opinion on to you. Students develop well informed opinions having heard both sides of the issue.
For a theory class I thought it was terrible; simply having someone spout theory at you for 50 min doesn't do anything. I believe theory is best learned in application and Biezinski didn't take that route. The questions he gives you prior to the tests are outlines as he narrows the questions on the test (got raped on the first midterm, watch out)
if your goal is to learn about the mass media in our society, than this class is amazing. Robert is a great lecturer and i found myself completly engaged. but he expects a lot out of you, i recomend you come to class and TAKING NOTES is a must. if you are studious, then you will be fine. if you are looking for a cake walk, you will fail.
This class is hard! The assignment is ridiculous. It took over ten hours to do the assignment and I only got a 50% on it. He is a good prof but he is too hard. It is impossible to get a good mark with him. The essays are hard and the project is next to impossible. Do not take this class from him!
You had to attend class beacuse he went over so much information. Take notes on your labtop or your hand wlil be sore. Very interesting though and knows his stuff.
He lectures & u take notes entire class (u can't fall asleep since his voice is loud & crisp but your hand will hurt). For all of his classes: midterm is 3 essays, final is 5 essays, term paper is 10 pg. For all 3 parts of course you have choice and he gives you info on what sections to study for midterm & final. Very organized & good marker.
He is a horrible prof. Yes he explains exactly what he wants BUT in his Social Studies 110 class and his Sociology 200-level class he makes you write an unreasonable amount of essays in a short period of time. Also, for Social Studies you have to do a huge project worth only 30% of your mark that took me over 50 hours to complete!
I love love LOVE his teaching style. I have never learned so much in class before his lectures. Yes, a little stale for most people, but if you're one who tends to drift off in class, this prof is ideal. You literally do NOT have time to daydream.
Very interesting. Must attend every class or else you will miss ALOT of information, as he lectures through the entire period. Mid terms you receive 3 essays. Although you have your choice as to what to write about, he does not give enough time to comple. 50%- Huge Project 25%- Midterm 25% - Final
Have to go to class as the final and midterm are from his lectures. midterm is 3 essays, final is 5, ended up writing 25 pages! Very easy to get a high mark though since he gives the questions before hand. You can easily make test essays and just memorize them. Project was stupid long and not to interesting. Follow the layout instructions!!
In the class I took, it was all lectures but the mid term and final require you to give additional info about the text book so make sure you do the reading assignments! Attendance is not mandatory but if you miss a class get the notes or else. There is only one project so start early! good proff, keeps you interested the whole class
Was nervous to take this class but he is a really good prof. Textbook is a must as 3/4 final is directly from text, but he tells you exactly what the questions on the final and midterm are going to be so you know what to study, paper seems big but he marks easy as long as you answer the questions exactly, accent makes class interesting and fun
If you want to really learn some things take a class from DR.B. If not his class is not for you. you won't get by with mediocre work in his class but at the end of the semester you will feel as though you have learned a lot. He is very approachable and is willing to put in extra time to help a student succeed. Great Proff for serious students.
If it weren't for his incrediably adndrocentric/secist (wont let me spell it right) views I would have liked him. When I challenged his deterministic views of nursing he was rude and, quite frankly, wrong. For a sociologist he is really closed minded. Research is outdated too.
Very hard, but I don't think it was b/c of Dr. B but rather his marker. I routinely had to go back to him to get my mark raised. His lectures are very clear and run the full 50 min. I averaged 6 pages of notes each class. Assignment took me almost a month to finish, midterm is 2 essays in 50 min and final is 5 essays in 3 hours. Avoid if necessary
Good Prof, not great but knows his stuff
AMAZING PROF!! My fav prof I have had since I started University. Knows his stuff really well and has lots of stats and research to back it up. Write a lot of notes so never miss a class! Very passionate and makes things very clear and easy to understand. Would take many more classes from him
Great Prof, Felt instinctual to applaud after each lecture as he is very passionate to the point of near sweatiness. Be prepared for lots of writing and never miss a lecture. I mean, who would want to miss one of Biezenski's rants, they are very informative and very entertaining.
Alright prof. It depends on how you learn though. He lectures the ENTIRE course. I averaged about 4 typed pages(singlespace), for one 50 minute class, and 11-15 pages for a 3 hr class. MUST study the notes AND text for midterm, otherwise you will get a very low grade. Good about extensions. Very opinionated. An ok prof but I won't take him again
Loved listening to his lectures. They were super interesting. Important to never miss a class since he lectures the whole time. He was very passionate about the subject matter. Outlines and expectations were very clear. Make sure you buy the textbook!
He lectures all class.
Final el brutal
This class was excellent!! Everyday you felt like you were learning something new. Definitely recommend Robert!
He only does flat out lecturing but does it in an interesting way that is easy to understand for a pretty hard subject. Be prepared for non-stop note-taking. His tests are all essay questions and the final was worth 50%. If you take good notes it's easy to get a good grade, hard to get a great one.
He is a very knowledgeable prof but lectures are awful.... non stop writing. He talks and talks and talks there is literally no time to write everything down. I do like the fact that he repeats the important parts of the lectures and writes down dates and names on the board so you can get them right. Exams are fair and not overly hard.
Its a 200 level class with a bulls*** 10 page paper where the topic is so broad you have no idea what to write about esp when you have to have 6 academic references. You write for the entire 50 minutes and the midterm even worse trying to cram all of that information he wants into the 50 minutes
talks and talks. no discussion
Fav. Prof. be prepared to take notes.1 midterm 1 final 1 paper. gives you the Q's for midterm & final 2 weeks ahead. Don't know why he has such a bad rating, I got 90% on midterm & my essay. not that difficult if u pay attention and are good at memorizing facts. his lectures are like listening to a story. doesn't give notes. buy textbook 4 final.
The prof definitely knows his material but maybe too well? He lectures straight through the class with little time for students to write and ask questions. The book is very important for exams but it's dated and somewhat irrelevant to today's culture. He's a tough grader but if you're good at memorizing, you should be fine. Pay attention in class!
Starting off by saying I would not take this class again. Lectures were decently interesting although get ready to take constant notes the whole time. His midterm and final were both essay questions. You could have gotten by without the textbook up to the midterm but NEED it for the final. Not to mention the 10 page research paper.
He has no slides so you absolutely have to come to class for the information. and be prepared to write. He knows what he's talking about and is always willing to answer questions. The exams are just writing essays (body paragraphs). But you learn a lot if you come to class, listen, take notes and study.
In his class we took notes all class long. He is a really good speaker so it's not bad. He assigned 10 p. paper but did not tell exactly what format he wants. I used Chicago one and got a great mark. Tests consisted of essays. He gave topics in advance but it's still hard to prepare because u never know what he wants in those essays. Overall 7/10
His lectures were good and he was clear with relevant examples to present and past to support point being made. loved his class. too much writing, never minded it at all.
Super great at lectures. Speaks slowly and clearly. Easy to take notes. He is repetetive which helps with remembering
This class is one of my favourites, and prof Biezenski taught very well. He repeats himself which helps when taking notes and his lectures are definitely interesting!
He's good in that he really knows his stuff, and I found his lectures really interesting BUT keeping up with his lecture is difficult and he's a ridiculously tough marker - unless you say WORD FOR WORD what he wants you to say on the midterm/final/paper you're screwed. He's right, you're wrong, period. The essay outline is also extremely vague .
Love his lectures, talks slow and repeats himself for the important stuff and writes key words on the board. Gives a good outline for the midterms and final
If you like challenge you love him. His midterms and Finals are essay based. Meaning he does not do multiple choice, short answer etc. Only essays. But he gives a clear outline on the topics of the questions so you have a more directed time studying. Lectures are interesting and heavy. Pay attention and show up! Hes a great prof.
Robert for sure knows his stuff. But if you want to pass you will have to go and actually write down everything he says as it is quite lecture-heavy. Also be prepared to read as his essay based tests may contain topics not covered in class that you will have to read. Overal he is a great prof that I would take another class from again.
Robert is an awesome prof! This class is so interesting and super worth taking. Take lots of notes and study hard for the exams and you'll do well!
Be ready to write in his class, but he is very easy to listen to because he knows his stuff. Very theory based. He is really good for repeating his sentences in lecture to make sure you get down the information
Easy to take notes in class because he repeats what he said. Textbook is definitely necessary for the final. Overall, decent class.
Show up for half the lectures, or if you really want, just the ones the week before the exams to get the exam q's. Regurgitate what you read in the textbook and what he says in class and you'll be fine. He grades the term paper harder than the exams. If this is what an average sociology class is like, majoring in it must be a joke. Steer clear.
Pretty hard to do good in. Not enough things graded to increase your mark so it's almost all or nothing. Midterm/final should be marked on how well u understand material but instead was marked on how similar it was to his sample key which is pretty hard when its long answer and on a VERY broad topic. Hard to do well, not worth it. I'd avoid!!!!!!
Don't take Robert's class if you're looking for an easy elective. It's difficult to do well because so few things are graded, the midterm and final require you to regurgitate all the lecture notes and readings in a history timeline fashion. The first two thirds of the class was good but he has outdated research, especially on exercise + vaccines.
get ready for writing in class, easy lectures,
He is the worst professor. If you are taking sociology as an elective and you desire to better your gpa score then i must say he would be the wrong choice for you unless you like the old fashioned method of teaching because he would never post any materials on u r courses and would make it more difficult for you. i am regretting
This class was terrible. Would definitely not recommend this class as an elective. You have to regurgitate all the information he says in class (on broad topics) or you will not do well. The midterms and finals are only essay questions and it is almost impossible to bring your grade up if you do bad on the first midterm. 10/10 do not recommend!
Doesn't use UR courses, and the lectures are super heavy. It's an interesting class, but not one you want to pick to be your last class on a long day. It's very intense. He's a tougher grader, and the assignments are weighed heavy. But he's interesting to listen to, and explains things really well. There's a 10 page research paper, so plan well.
Robert's lectures are very interesting and he is passionate about what he teaches, but you have to be ready to write down everything he says word for word. He only uses essay question tests and he doesn't even mark them the TA does and they have a master copy of what he's looking for and if you don't basically have it the exact same, you will fail
-he tells you the subject of exam questions (which are all essays, so try not to take the M/W/F 50 min class, because you will run out of time and it's a tough grade scale) -DO NOT SKIP or you will fail because it is mostly lecture based and he doesn't use slides or URcourses, also i would suggest taking notes on a computer because he goes quickly
Not a terribly hard class but the midterm is sort of ridiculous. There is simply not enough time to properly answer his questions. There's also a 10 page paper but isn't that hard to do well on. He's also probably the most arrogant professor I've encountered in university yet.
His lectures were good and he clearly know what he is talking about but Roberts weird way of grading exams makes it incredibly hard to get a good mark. You must attend class, he does not accommodate if you miss and he is no help if you ask questions via email. Refused to put text on reserve at library because he believes we should have to buy it.
Always made class interesting. He did his lectures almost like he was performing on a stage which I enjoyed. 1 paper, 1 midterm and a final exam. He makes sure you are prepared for exams - tells you exactly whats on it and no surprises. He gives specific instructions for the paper and exams. Easy credit. Would recommend.
Here's some insight about his online classes: His lectures are heavy but very detailed -straight to the point. He puts in the important keywords in the chat box, so we can all follow. Can't tell you how helpful that is. Exams are a different story. His exams are always essays, but just study and get familiarized with the key terms, &you'll be fine.
amazing
The lectures are very heavy and you have to be ready to write but it is worth it! Most knowledge I have gotten out of a soc course and he is a very interesting prof. Midterms are essay but if you pay attention to buzzwords and show you know what the mean you will get a good grade. Amazing prof overall!
Extremely knowledgable and passionate. Great lecturer. Mark is based on performance on two midterms and a final composed of essay questions. Heavy on the note taking. But overall, a fascinating course to take.
It's a very heavy class, All the midterms and finals are straight essays. No MC whatsoever. Be prepared to write a lot if you take this class. Lots of reading from textbook and note taking during lectures needed. He is a very tough marker and his lectures are very monotone and boring. I found the content interesting but lectures are horrible.
seems like good person, if you try you will do fine
Robert was hands down the worst professor I have ever had. If you have accommodations, don't bother taking his class; you will get 0 extra help. I tried to challenge a mid-term, and he didn't get back to me until I contacted his faculty. I dropped the class and got half my money back because the deans agreed how condescending and rude he was. AWFUL
I took 121 pages (28 000 words) of notes for his class. If you enjoy writing notes for hours on end, then you'll love his class. If you miss ONE class, you risk failing. Would not take again.
The lectures are very information-heavy, but he is very clear on the key terms and concepts to understand. He's a great lecturer and regardless of what we were covering, he communicated it in a way that I found everything really interesting and didn't have trouble following along. Expect to pay attention and follow along on lectures.
ideological and hate-filled, questionable academic career
Horrible, I tried my absolute best by watching all lectures and taking lots of notes while also reading the chapters he assigned and I got a 13% and was told that it seemed as though I watched one of his lectures and did not do any of the readings, he said the grade that I got is what I deserved and gave me no help when asking how I could raise it.
Robert got me passionate about Sociology and the reason why I took it on as a double major. Pay attention the the "buzz" words and make sure to elaborate on them in exams. He is a great and passionate professor, but if you're against Marxism or any other politically charged theory, you might find him unbearable. I am sad to see him retire.
I absolutely loved this class and it's because of this professor. He made the material interesting, connected to the students, and he made the reading worth it!
I showed up to every class, he doesn't post or use UR Courses. I felt confident in what I knew and still ended up with a 50 in his class. We had a paper, and the class average was so low that everyone was given the option to make corrections or redo. I made all the corrections he had suggested and he did not change my grade given for it.
The only good thing this man ever did in his career is retire. Completely disrespectful and an absolute pig. Dude came to our final with the flu and was burping, making excessive noises throughout the entire 3 hour period. He has unreasonable expectations for a 200 level class, especially in such a milquetoast subject as sociology. Good riddance.
Grading is tough to get. The professor was nice, his teaching was great too but the lack of reading materials available to the students made this course a lot difficult. Also the grading is very tight. Be prepared to write 10 page essay.
No material beyond the lectures was ever given, and after filling a notebook with lecture notes and studying all the material multiple times, I still got poor marks on the most open ended midterm and exam questions. The grading seems ridiculous. He is also a vehement marxist and skims over anything that did not have to do with it. Happy retirement!
Amazing professor, cares about what he is teaching and is alway open to answer or debate topics in class. You will not be grade on much: midterm (20%), Essay - 10 pages in length which is on a self study novel (30%) and a final (50%). He tells you in class and via the syllabus what will be on exams so there are no surprises. Easy pass!!
