he's very helpful and keeps the class light but telling really corny jokes. always there when you need help. he makes sure you understand the material before you move on. he breaks down math to make it easier.

I had him for both and highly recommend him! The 0098 class was during the summer semester which was hard but he will take the extra step to help. It is too bad that he does not teach regular credit classes.

I had this guy in my freshmen year. he is awesome n kewl. He luvs to tell jokes and hear jokes. He is willing to work out with you about grades. He even drops one low test grade. Less homework but u better do homework in able to pass his class. I give him 5*.

Really enjoyed this class. I was so out of practice, but Prof Birrell really made it easy. He has a ton of experience teaching this stuff, so his delivery is very effective. I will take his class again for 0098.

I was really nervous starting class because it was my first college class and I missed the first 2 weeks. Prof. Birrell let me make up all my work and I still ended up getting a B!! He's awesome, just don't write down all his stories.....

He explained very well and so far his grading was very lienent. you can defiantly make an A or B in the class

very funny guy,most of work was done on eduspace for hw cept for the easy 20 question tests done on the comp in the lab,u basically dont have to go to class just as long as u go the day before the test bc he does awesome reviews

Awesome! Math never clicked for me until this class. Mr Birrell explains everything and you don't feel stupid when you have a question. His jokes are awful but you can't help but laugh. He makes math so much less intimidating and he always reviews the day before a test. He tends to digress when he's talking but he's easy to get back on track.

Prof. Birrell is an awesome math teacher! I had such math phobia that it kept me from going back to school for years. Thanks to this professor, I think I may even LIKE math-haha! He gives you only as much as you can handle, is always congenial and fair, and willing to go to great lengths to explain things. I will take him for Math 098!

Mr. Birrell is a good teacher and a sweet guy but my total lack of knowledge of Algebra made it very difficult. If you love Algebra and have the fundamentals down, Mr. Birrell's class will be perfect for you. I would suggest for those who may have always had a tough time in Algebra to take either Mrs. Jones or Mrs. Naidu.

I like this professor a lot. I think he is a good math/algebra teacher but I never learned any of these concepts in high school almost 3 decades ago and need a professor that will go much slower. That said he is a good teacher and he is very personable/fun.

Prof. Birrell will change your mind about math-guaranteed. I was so afraid of math and he made me come to love it and I went on to make an A in calculus! He continued to help me after I left his classes. I attribute my further A grades all to him. He is the best and if you want a good, solid math foundation-take him.

Ok, if Prof. Birrell taught every math class at KSU-I would seriously think about being a math major. However, he doesn't. But he gave me a love of math I will never forget and I adore him for it!

Great teacher! Extends Homework. Goes over practice test in class before the actual test.He uses My Mathlab so everything is onthe computer.You can redo homework questions untill you get 100.Class is easy and professor is FUN! I would recommed you show up to class although he doesn't care. math 099 is very fast notes on Monday and test Wednesday

THE BEST! Will go over something time and time again for you until you get it. He even helped me when I was out of his class and in Math 1101...he took his own time in the evening at his office to help. Class is fun and he actually helped me to like algebra. For the most part :)

Prof. Birrell is one of the shining stars in the University Dept. He is a instructor who has a passion for what he does. He wants everyone to understand math and makes every attempt to assist the students. He definitely helps offset the marginal teachers in the department. Wish I could take him for more advanced math classes!

I had settled for just not being a "math person" & thinking it'd just never get it. --Mr. Birrell changed all that! For the first time ever, I enjoyed math. This was due to this incredible professor. I loved going to his math class more than any other class. He really cares that you understand, keeps things upbeat & is always available. Love him!

EASY class and attendance NOT mandatory! I did everything online and only went to class on test days! 2nd time taking him and got an A both times!

Great teacher! Do the homework, but most importantly do the practice tests over and over again. The tests are based on the practice test. Pretty funny jokes to break up the monotony.

He was by far my favorite professor this semester!! He is very helpful and he always tells these jokes that barely anyone gets, but its still hilarious. He teaches great and usually explains it once and evryone understands!!

Prof Rob really is the greatest professor ever! Everyone in class passed the exit Compass the first time. Also, his record with previous students and taking the Compass is excellent. I believe he has had two failures in his ten years. Class moves fast, but it is supposed too

If you've ever had trouble with math you NEED to take this prof!!! He sincerely wants you to succeed and is a very nice person. The class is fast paced but he can find 50 ways of explaining the same thing so you really get it. I never understood math yet I got an A in this class and actually get it.

Birrell is an AMAZING teacher! I have never been good in math, but I received a high A in his class. He takes his time to make sure you understand what is going on and he gives practice tests before every exam. The practice tests are EXACTLY like the real test, do those and you'll get an A.TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!

I have been out of school for 22 years. Math has always been my worst subject. This teacher has made coming back to Math enjoyable which I never though could be possible. He is a wonderful teacher and I highly recommend him.

mr birrel was perfect for this course. he explains things at a slower pace and takes time to answer all questions. show up to class, do your homework, and participate in test reviews and you will pass. great teacher!

this is the best math teacher ive ever had. he is super layed back, easy going, loves to interact with students, and is an overall nice guy. he actually cares for his students, and tried to make them pass, even if u mess up some. it is such an easy class. Professor Birrell was awesome, he was very patient, and understanding, worked at a pretty good pace that was sufficient for the entire class. He covers his test and the compass material if taking 099. You will do great just as long as you take notes and complete your homework assignments.. two thumbs up!

I suck at Math but he made it so easy. Best math teacher I've ever had! He's always happy to answer as many questions as you want. Helps you go through practice tests and the practice tests are always harder than the actual test. Plan to take him for all my math classes.

I really couldn't stand math before I took his class, but now can say that I actually enjoy it. If you have a problem with anything he'll help you directly until you understand it, his presentations are clear, concise and succinct. He is more than fair with homework grades and even points missed on a test due to syntax error. STRONGLY RECOMMEND!!!

I am currently taking precalc as a dual enrollment student with Birrell, and so far I have loved his class. He is a very engaging teacher, and I felt well prepared for the tests. He posts a 50 question pre-test on mymathlab, and the format of the questions from the pre-test are extremely similar to the actual test. He wants his students to succeed

I looked at the reviews before attending his class, and I must say - they are so correct. Mr. Birrell truly cares about you passing the class and will take the time to explain something in as many different ways as he needs to. So excited to take him again next semester for 0098.

Absolutely wonderful teacher. He's nice, funny (a little corny at times), and actually cares about his students. He'll help you pass the class. He grades very leniently and will give you half-credit where possible. You don't always have to show up, but if you do, he basically tells you what will be on the test. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!

Absolutely LOVED professor Birrell. I am awful at math & managed to get an A in 0097 & now have maintained an A this semester in 0098. I wish I could take him for 1111. Great professor, easy on tests and gives points for showing your work on scratch paper. Reviews everything, but you have to pay attention. He doesn't "lecture" with writing stuff out, mainly uses lots of examples. If you are good at math then it will be an easy A.

Loved this teacher and his class! Birrell is super helpful and awesome at what he does. His class isn't boring and he works through every type of problem that you might see on a test. Homework is due once a week online. Go to the reviews and take practice quizzes online and you'll make an A. Don't buy the book though!!! Just get the online access!

I'm in this class now and he really helps you understand everything! I suck at math and it takes me longer than others to grasp everything but he answers all your questions and will work with you because he TRULY cares about his students. Just pay attention, ask questions, take notes, and do the homework you'll be fine. I'm taking him for 098 next.

Good professor. It's not an easy A, but if you pay attention in class, do all the homework, and study for the test you will do fine in his class. He puts out test reviews for each test and the questions are almost identical to the test questions. If you do good on the test review you will do fine on the test.

He goes over what's on a test before hand. If you read the book the homework is easy. Super helpful. Offers extra credit as needed. Goes the extra mile for students who ask. But allows you to fail if you are just plain lazy. Class attendance not mandatory but really helpful.

I really enjoyed Professor Birrell. His expectation is for you to care enough to come to class, participate, do the homework and be willing to apply yourself. His is pretty funny and does a good job at making math interesting. You will only get out of the class what YOU put into it. I would definitely take him again!

Birrell puts forth an effort to take as much pain out of math as possible. Excellent professor that actually cares about his students. He even will invite students to office hours on weekends to try and help them. Course is software based utilizing MyMathLab - which isn't the greatest - and the textbook is vague - so lean heavy on attending class.

Birrell is an amazing teacher! Math has always been a little hard for me, but he makes it easy to understand. There are weekly homework assignments, but nothing hard and you can use examples on mymathlab. He gives practice tests that are almost identical to the actual tests. Attendance is important. Beware of his corny math jokes! Great professor.

Patient, instructional, willingly gives ample class time opportunities to clarify any lack of understanding and comprehension, but you must speak up asking the questions. He's a Professor, not a class warden on attendance but he does take roll and if you show up and pay attention, do the practice homework you'll learn the material and pass.

Mr. Birrell is an older man that's getting ready to retire soon. He can be a little scatter-brained and makes errors here and there, but he's always quick to catch his mistakes and own up to them. He covers a lot of material and is always great at answering questions. Makes a lot of dad jokes, nice man, solid instructor. Physical book not required.

Professor Birrell is funny and keeps you engaged in class while still teaching the material and making sure everyone understands it. He genuinely cares about his students and will help you, it is really difficult to fail as long as you make an effort. If math isn't your strong point don't miss too many classes though. Grade is from tests and hw.

I'm not a huge math person, but he makes class fun. He does use an online program for hw and tests (ALEKS). Homework on ALEKS takes forever, and there is a lot of homework, but the homework will help your grade dramatically. Professor Birrell is hilarious during class and keeps it interesting. If you're fairly good at math, you should be fine.

This class was very good for me since I struggle with math but he helps and you can pass his class if you do the work. Theres four tests and he uses aleks but he gives you the option of taking it in on paper which I would recommend since aleks grades harsh over little details. Overall good math class

Professor Birrell was a caring guy. Although his teaching style was boring, he made jokes to keep everyone awake. He uses Aleks, well tries to because he was not very good at it, but does care about his students. He was a good algebra professor.

Really great math 1111 choice. Lectures are fairly straight forward, there were only a few concepts that I did not understand. Do all the HW and show up to class and you'll get an A easily. Also, he tries to be funny, and it fails most of the time, but at least he tries.
