Boring teacher....dont get caught sleeping!

i have more respect for a piece of dog crap. i would rather have a root canal than listen to him lecture. he makes up material. take him if you like pain.
Most unjustifiably arrogant professor I have encountered. He always feels that he should be teaching at a more renown institution. Worst of all, he looks down on his students. To say that he cant teach is an understatement. Take Mike Old's class instead
very boring lectures, takes roll. but a word of advice, study off his notes that he hands out. although he is so unpopular, i still got an A because of the curve. not too shabby.
He is a excellent professor. Even though he is no too friendly, he teaches so well that you will do well in all other Econ. classes if you have to take some later on. I strongly recommend him, but it's not an easy class. If you study, you can get an A!
Hard class, but if you study his handouts, you should pass. Don't waste your time asking him for help though. Thanks to the curve, I got a B.
Probably once a good teacher, but know makes everything easy on himself. Lectures as if he is in a room full of economist.
HAHAHA this guy is classic. He is like 90 and still teaches econ as though it were the 60's. Dont bother buying the book. His lectures are worse than jail BUT it is easy. The guy has the most screwed up grading scale so take it for the grade.
Tried best, but I'm not good at economics period. Dropped the class cuz I couldn't catch on to his teaching style and did horribly on tests (because they were waaaay too hard no matter how much I studied).
I think he is smart, but not good at teaching. In his class you can't be asleep because you have to write down everything he wrote. Notes are very important, ant quizes are helpful. Grades based on other people's grade, I got an A of 84 or 82.
HE'S SMART BUT THE CLASS IS HARD, THE PROBLEM SETS WILL HELP YOUR GRADE HE ALSO CURVES THE TEST, NICE MAN BUT YOU BETTER BE A ECONOMICS NERD TO LEARN EVERTHING HE TEACHES!

He gives you most of the questions that will be on the test but you still get a bad grade but then he comes along with his curve and I don't know what to think. I wouldn't want to have him again. DON'T BUY A BOOK

This class is easy. Like someone mentioned earlier, do not buy a book! I slept everyday in that class except for the first day and I went into the final with a B, almost an A. His tests were MOSTLY true/false questions. This class is easy!
So boring.Teaches about farms!I dunno. Thanx to the curve I got a B.His tests r brutal.Keep up on the problems sets and take lots of notes.Prob sets help ur grade alot.Book didn't help.Good Luck!
Intimidatin at first and annoying all the way to the end. I got a B for not learning anything because of his curves. His hw are problem sets. Try to get them from a previous class bc he uses the same ones.
Dose yourself w/ coffee before class,you'll need it. Lecture bases on study guide so listen well & understand or else you'll get behind. Problem sets is a must or it'll take off a chunk of your grade. Beware, his curve is not curvy at all. No book needed.

smart man, talks fast so be alert in class, problem sets are big part of grade, i havent opened book yet. if you take notes thats all you should need.
I have no idea what he say but i hae an A in the class... p. sets are based on his notes, so jus copy everything he writes and no need for a book at all. Recommended for lazy ppl that are good test takers.

Well i would say the book helps either way cuz hes not the best communicator, some dry sinical humor and doesnt like being asked dumb questions, very boring but if your IQ is over 100 i think ull be fine i got an A with plenty of cushion.
dont buy the book, its a waste of money, he's got a curve that helps, know the study guide and you'll do fine, but thats easier said than done, his lectures suck, he thinks were all economists like him for some reason.
Definately don't by the book. He recommends the wallstreet and its not needed either. The key is to do all the Problem set homework assignments and on the tests if any question says "only, Always" the answer is false! 90% of the T/F Questions ar
Basics in taking his class: Dont buy the book, pay attention in class, dont slack on the problem sets, take notes and if you dont understand jack ask him. O yea, and dont annoy him.
This teacher must be the worse at OCC. He makes up his own theory called the "bise theory," and makes up his own equations on how to graph the slope on the supply and demand graph. TURN BACK AND RUN DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!!
Bise is extremely boring. He rattles on and on about meaningless analogies. It's like your grandpa telling war stories. He is not very clear on his explainations or his notes. The supplement is all hand scribbled and hard to follow.

Do not suggest this class--take Mike Olds instead! Has some inbalance that makes him cranky and has ZERO patience for questions--which you'll have lots of when he gets mad at you for taking too long to understand something.
eh... good teacher, knows what he's talking about but explains it in terms that can be easy for non-experts to understand. can be a tough class if you slack on attendence (which is pretty tempting in this class)

Microeconomics is by no means an easy class. I squeaked by with an A in the class due to the ridiculous curve (82% = A). He gives out problem sets each week, make sure you do them and understand them completely because the tests are based off of them. If you are a slacker, you will do poorly.
Grades are on a curve. Tests are pretty hard. Make sure you understand the concepts
This is an easy class. Eventhough I don't know what the instructor was saying doing lectures. I bs the tests and i got a relatively good grade
mr. bise is a very smart man and that is the reason why he expect the same from you. Make sure that if you tak this class, to pay attention in class, read the assinged reading and actaully STUDY.... It is very hard to get an "A" in this class, but if you just want a "B," its not imposible..........

This is the worst class I think I have ever taken. Mr. Bise has the most unclear topics and the worst way of teaching. Dont take this class, you will sleep throught the whole thing and not learn anything about Macro. He is the reason we should not pay teachers more.
Very hard and unclear. He does not assign any reading from text so don't bother buying it. If it was not for his gigantic curve i would have failed. 58% is a C-. If you have to take him bing a pillow b/c I slept through the whole class and know you will too.
Once you get used to Mr. Bise he really isn't so bad. I think the problem is that he doesn't make the topic very interesting, so if you don't like playing with numbers and thinking, you'll hate this class. I actually enjoyed it and got an "A"
All of you guys are whinning just because you actually need to study to do well in the class. I admit, his test are extreamly hard, but not imposible. Dr. Bise is a very intelegent person and that is why he expects the same from his students. Study hard for his exams and do all of the homework that he assigns. WIth is curvee, you'll do fine.
Bise can be a little boring and he can come off a bit harsh but once you get used to his style, he's not bad. His tests are difficult so take notes and study. You also need to do all the problem sets, these can make or break your grade. You hardly even crack open the text.
TERRIBLE...honors classes were easier. Terrible teacher...really boring...not interesting at all!
This dude sux. The only way I got a B is because the tests are mostly T and F. If you want to learn something dont take this guy. He will confuse the hell out of you.
Class draaaags. Boring and dry teacher. He knows what he is doing, but its sometimes hard to stay awake. His exams aren't TERRIBLE as long as you pay attention and study a little bit. If you cant find a better teacher, its not a bad class...
terrible terrible teacher, he doesnt teach he just talks, never goes straight to the point, you dont know where the hell are you 10 minutes after the class has started, impossible to understand him.

Take my advice, don't take him if your a white, take him if your an asian that's good at understanding equation. Mostly based on remembering graph and equation. He's very rude when you ask him for help. I thought he was cool at the 1st 4 week. Then he start to become all azzholish and say****off.

I don't know how I passed his class but at least the girl next to me was hot haha. but anyways he is boring and the tests are hard. You just really have to listen to his stuffs .

Very straight forward, do the problem sets, don't buy the book, just study off the supplement and notes. 4 tests, graded on curve. Final grade is curved. Great teacher if you want to become an Econ major. Easy A's.
Easy!!! but BOOOORING. Attendance is not Mandotory, but necessary if you want to get 15pts on the problem sets. Here's how it goes lecture + break where you pick problem set + he does the problem set with you on the second half = 15pts. test hard but can easily be BS'd True or false 50/50 chance.

I'll be dead honest. I've always been a good student and I know good teachers from not so good and this guy is worse. Avoid and take someone else like Olds or Thomas. Don't make the mistake like so many and be forced to retake this another semester!
Ok, this guy is very smart but he doesn't know how to teach the subject. His tests are curved a lot so that helps because otherwise it would be a near impossible class. He is willing to help you if you go see him. Seven problem sets and four tests were the whole class. Do the problem sets and study for the tests a little and you'll be fine.
If you do study the supplement and his lecture in a correct way, it is an easy A. Unless you're in a class with bunch of smarta$$. If you aren't, then you're in a for a good grade, because he curves it very well.
do not procrastinate on the problem sets. just pay attention to what he's saying even tho its pretty boring (come on, its econ, its supposed to) I didn't buy the supplement, nor the book, didn't do 3/7 problem sets...but i passed the class.
he isnt helpful what so ever. one guy asked a question and bise got all "you are over analysing the question, now blah blah blah" and the guy was about to answer him when bise goes "no dont answer, i dont think you no the answer"
Ok so...he's the worst actual "teacher" I've probably ever had. His lectures are a joke, he just rambles on and on and makes little sense. I never went and just read the chapters and always rocked on the tests. Avoid if you can unless you're down with reading the book
well, let me point out that the class was not that difficult to pass. If you accomplish the problem set you would get an b in the class. I got a b+ for practically doin nothing in his class.

Sweet guy, mostly boring, but with some high points, if you care about the material at all. Easy, easy easy.
pretty boring lectures, but he's a nice guy and tries to help people understand with analogies. if you ask a question he usually will talk until you are even more confused or until he's confused himself. class was pretty easy.. do the problem sets and try to keep up with the economic lingo.
He's a really nice teacher...kind of reminds me of a grandpa. He's had alot of life experience which makes for interesting but completely irrelevent stories. If your going to take Econ 177 I highly HIGHLY recomend you take an intro to econ course first. I didnt so I had no idea what the heck he was talking about most of the time.
Hm..it was pretty easy at first.. until he hit you with a BIG take-home final.. his lectures are boring, but sometimes interesting. You have to read a lot in order to understand what he is talking about and it's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you take a BASIC econ class before taking this class. I was lost the whole way.
I liked him. He was tuff as nails and didn't take no mess! I think he was a grand fatherly figure, but had some good examples. All in all I got some good from his class, but I got a tutor at the same time. He will help you after class, but he aint gonna be sweet about it.
I honestly can not stand him. He's not clear and if you ask questions, he makes you feel stupid. Tells you when the homework is due during the class before so attendance is mandatory. He is just a jerk and thinks he is the smartest guy ever.

worst teacher ever. he's a jerk. doesnt answer your questions and his lectures dont make any sense. he thinks he is the smartest guy ever. the only good thing is that he grades on a very good scale which is the only way i passed his class with a C.
Opinionated, yes. Knowledgeable, yes. He does not teach to "test points" He aims to instill concepts and tests accordingly. If you just want to pass a class, skip this professor. If you want to gain insight into MacroEconomics, he is your best bet at OCC.
Have had Prof Bise for both 180 and 185 and I liked him a lot. Maybe not the most interesting class every, but it is Econ so don't expect a party. Tests are only hard if you don't study, and his grading scale helps a lot. Take his class, pay attention, show up, read the supplement and do the problem sets and you will get an A.
not a bad teacher. he is very nice and willing to clarify anything u dont understand. he mumbles a lot but usually what hes mumbling is insignificant anyway. do the work and youll get an A. overall, hes a good teacher. =)

Nice guy. He gave me an A-I had a low B(I got As on the tests but did almost no coursework). He took a bit of a personal interest in me. I will admit I fell asleep in his class a lot, told him it was from working night shifts heh(I was)I took AP micro econ in highschool and passed the AP. Most of econ180 is common sense. Also econ is my major.
He is a really nice, kind, and helpful professor, but I just couldn't keep up. The class isn't very interesting. He?s not good at lecturing (which is all he does) and he has trouble breaking down the material to make it simple.
Very passionate about the subject. Although this class isn't interesting. This class is difficult if you don't study. Grading scale is weird, sort of like on a curve but better. Do all the problem sets and show up to class. You will fall behind if you don't attend. Exams are hard. Don't take him, if you plan to slack off.
He really knows his stuff and tries to give students not only the information but a understanding of how and why things are the way they are. He is not easy but he does grade on a pretty forgiving curve. If you are looking for an easy class do not take him.
He is an easy and nice prof. His exams are not; they are difficult. Remember to study his suplements before the exam; it really helps. Do all problem sets; the answers come from supplement also. He grades on a curve which helps a lot. Overall, fair class.
he is very hard to understand. the way he speaks makes you fall asleep. his tests are hard. and his problem sets are time consuming. However i still got a B (missed half of his class and didnt understand anything. he does curve tests like crazy
i hope that if you choose his class, you read all the precautions on ratemyprofessor. he's very knowledge-able with what he's teaching, but dang is he horrible at making you understand. he's somewhat monotone so it's sometimes hard to stay awake. i advise to NEVER be late when you have to turn in your problem. he'll take points off. good luck!

did not learn ONE THING.the first couple weeks tried reading the book bc he is VERY unclear and hesay "this isnt in your book" "your book explains it completey different than i do and my way is better". cant understand him at all.ppl are just f ing around on laptops the whol time.. hedosnt care about students at all either

I really hope the school board fired him soon. he is just such a disgrace and a useless and a killer teacher that is not needed in the modern world. all he do is nothing and collect his pay check.

I read all the comments about him before taking his class and i thought "yeah i guess if i read the supplements and take notes in his class, i'll do fine." The best thing to do in this class is read the book. got to really understand the material otherwise you're as lost as a FOB in LA.
Dull angry instructor. He'll put pressure and yell at you when you come to his office because he expect you to know everything before you come o_O. Boring sleepy lecture. Super hard tricky tests. HOWEVER, he super curve his grading scale: B=A C=B D=C. You'll pass his class but won't learn craps. Be sure do all HW well & study Supplement for test.
As a child did you ever watch the Snoopy cartoon. This professor's lectures sound exactly like the adults voices. Wah Wah Wah Wah Wah Wah. You can see what he is writing but you cannot comprehend a thing. All he does is write notes and you copy. This class is very hard to get interested in and is not easy with such a boring professor.

He was a nice guy but his lectures were sooooooo boring! i say in the front and felt bad because i kept falling asleep. pretty okay class though, do the study guides and just study those for the test and you should be fine! also LOVE THAT HE CURVES THE CLASS!
Easiest prof ever. If you took econ in HS this should be an easy A for you... then again econ came naturally to me in HS(5 on the AP without trying in class)SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME HE WAS THE PROF TO TAKE. I concur. Easiest As I ever had in any of my 90 units at OCC. Sad he retired. Those who say otherwise might be that bright...
