Prof. Brown is a good teacher if you get past some of his quirks, like circling a staple because it is vertical and not horizontal. He gives alot of homework just do not get too far behind; You wont be able to catch up with a full class load.
Overall Prof. Brown is a good teacher. IF you can get past all the HOMEWORK!!! He is very smart and seems to have an understanding for the subject matter. WOULD NOT RECOMEND THIS CLASS OVER THE SUMMER!!! TOO MUCH MATERIAL COVERED!!!

Prof. Brown is a good communicator and gives students a chance to correct their mistakes for assignments by asking you to re-submit it. Make sure you ask questions if any. He Gives lots of homework (especially for online course) The exams are book length.
Professor Brown did OK for a course that had never been taught before. He had to throw the class together week by week. This forced him to give a lot of useless work.
good professor, understands that our jobs come first then class so helpful and flexible in that manner
Prof. Brown is an excellent teacher. He really seems to care. Very well prepared, good lectures. There is a big emphasis on homework, and you can't do well without keeping up with the work. (13 assignments). His tests are not too difficult either, 25Q short answer. The key is to go to class!!!!!!
The professor is very good at letting you make changes to your homework to receive a better grade. The work load is some what heavy for the type of class.

Professor Brown is a good professor, he knows the subject, and his grading is fair. Two problems with his class are: the amount of homework (too much) and his lectures (boring).
Too much work for such a short class. I spent more time doing his work than any other class I took in all of my years at this school. Although I still made an 'A' in his class, I would not recommend anybody else take this class if they are taking any other classes.
I found Prof. Brown to be very knowlegable and very clear in his requirments
If you ever thgouht a 2 Credit Class would be a breeze, wake up! You'll spend more time completing the assignments for this class than you would for all others you are taking this semester and the next and the next after that etc... I would have signed up only for this class this semester if I knew.
Very smart person. Knows what he is talking about. His classes aren't easy, but you learn a great deal and he is willing to help you all the way through.
He is a good teacher.
I enjoyed Prof. Brown class. I really like when we ventured off into real world discussions. It keep me interested and knowledable of current issues. The class did entail a lot of work and he also grades hard, but overall I am glad I took his class.
Good class, no slack
Good. No surprises. Lot of critical thinking needed.
Good Professor. Too much work for a 2 credits hour class. You would spend more time completing homework for this class than any other classes. Be aware if you are taking many courses.
Not as bad as i thought it would be. Tests are easy and i finally got to know what an algorithm is.
Deliver what he asks for and on time and attend most classes and you will make an A in that class.
This professor is an excellent teacher and you will really gain learning in his classes.
As above poster stated, the time required to take this 2 hour course is far beyond any 3 or 4 hour course at SPSU, Journal(go to library for about 2 hours a week)/Reading(about 1.5 hours a week on ave)/ Assignment that are on top of all this and discussion that you are supposed to take part in
Had an odd style of teaching at first, but by the end of the first test I understood what he wanted and he was easy from there. Did an excellent job presenting the material. Very structured in his approach. EXCELLENT database teacher. I learned alot in that class.
Great teacher. Very casual style of conversation. Kept a constant and even pace all semester long. Very mindful of time utilization and taylored presentations to fit within the bounds of classtime alotted. Said enough to get students to think, but not so much to dictate a viewpoint.
Lots and lots of homework assignments. But good teaching skills. You will learn alot!!
Mr. Brown was helpful, and material mostly relevent. This was a 2 credit hour on-line class. If you you can read and write papers fast, then the load for this class is only slightly more than a typical 2hr class. Otherwise, you may find yourself spending more time on this class than on Calculus II.
Excellent Professor. Prepare to put some effort in. Fair tests. I have used every skill learned in IT 4232
tRIED TO FIND A WAY TO FAIL STUDENTS HE DOESNT GET ALONG WITH. IF YOU DON'T LIKE KISSING TAIL, THEN BE PREPARED TO LOSE POINTS ON IRRELEVANT THINGS. DID MORE ON MYGROUP PROJECT THAN ANYONE ELSE, BUT ARGUED WITH HIM AND GOT A LOWER GRADE THAN ANYONE ON IT. BAD TEACHER.
Excellent teacher. Had one assignment each week, with a week to do it. Very dedicated to helping his students. You will definitely learn alot. Highly recomended, enjoyeed his class alot. A+
this class has no hands on which makes it harder to understand. he puts thing on the board and that's it. if you make a mistake, it's like no turning back. if you need help after class time, you have to e-mail him. if you don't write it his way, he will not answer it, leaving you clue-less.
This is the way IT needs to be approached. The labs helped students who have never looked at the inside of a computer or other operating systems. Class was long, but good.
This class is probably one of the harddest classes you can take because of the workload. It is a lot of work, but the skills developed will only help you in your career. Fair and flexible, but you must put forth effort or else you will have trouble. Welcome to college people!
Professor Brown is the ideal college professor. He is dedicated to students and goes out of his way to help students learn. Be prepared to work in this class. It will not be easy but the skills will be useful for any future employment.
Great teacher. Seperates those that "Get from those that dont" leaving absolutely no intermediate. Get in there work hard, (yes hard!) you get A. Slack little bit, (a little bit) you are in F grade. Teacher was straight forward, strict from the word go! Too much work for the class especially in summer. Would take hime again, he is straight forward.
If you take this class, be prepared to work. Prof. Brown has rather high expectations of his students, as any good professor should, but you'll learn a lot (and probably earn a good grade) if you put forth the effort. I wouldn't recommend taking this class during the summer unless it's your only class. It's a lot of work to cram into 10 weeks.
He assigns a lot of work. But it is vital to learning the material. He makes you like your getting your money's worth when you go to his class. No BS with him
Very difficult teacher. For 2 hour class he assigns work and assignments that could suit a 4 hour class better. Not very lenient, if you make any mistakes or ask for an extension he won't give you any mercy, even becomes condescending in emails. Not typing an essay the way he "outlines" means he won't even read it.Take another teacher if possible.
Very good professor and very challenging. Sometimes difficult to get his help in the class but all in all a good experience. Another thing, lots, and I mean lots of homework, difficult homework, but relative to the course and to possible job skills for each student that takes the course. I took the webct course, this may have skewed my experience.
I avoided Prof Brown for 2 years because of the rumors, but I wish I had taken him earlier - he's now one of my favorites. He's always willing to help you in anyway he can. He's a hard ass and he doesnt tolerate cell phones in class but if you want to learn it and learn it well, this is the best professor for the job. Be prepared for lots of hmwk.
Do avoid him. Full of knowledge, but a horrible teacher.
Lots of homework, fair teacher,he's up front about grading and his expectation of students. Do the homework and review the lectures, you will do fine.
Good and informative class. Relatively easy tests if you do the readings and the homework. Too much of the homework though. Seems to act as if students aren't taking other classes. 70% of the homework was relavent, while 30% seemed like just something to keep you busy.
Enough work for one 2 hour class to cover four 3 hours classes...waste of time.
Very knowledgeable and easy teacher. I learned a lot while making my A. He is very helpful when you need it. I'd highly recommend him as a teacher in this course. We just had 3 tests and a few very easy assignments. He helps a lot in preparing you for the tests.
Great teacher. Emphasis on homework. ALWAYS willing to help if needed. You just have to put forth the effort to go to him. I had 3 of 4 classes this fall with him and enjoyed the entire semester!!
Took both Hardware Software and Web Development with Prof. Brown. Excellent teacher, he makes his own lectures (nothing straight from the book), and like mentioned is always willing to help. Pay Attention,do all your homework, and you wont loose! HE can move alittle fast but there is alot to learn A+++
All material pertained to the real world. All valuable information. Worked very hard so that everyone understood the material and expectations.
Great Professor, wants student to learn, helpful, the best
VERY VERY Easy if you do you work it is hard to fail
Excellent prof. Puts lots of hard work in checking assignments, giving feedback. Very helpful.
Great teacher, helpful, wants students to learn. Gives homework to reinforce material covered in class.
He is an enjoyable lecturer; fortunate because you'll need notes to do well on tests. The tests are fair though, and almost everything he asks will have been covered in class. My only complaint is the homework assignments were tedious and sometimes difficult, and grades were slow in coming. Overall, a very good professor.
Hands down the best professor I have had during college. He has the knowledge and experience in the IT field which makes the lessons realistic, not theoretical.
Has an amazing grasp of the subject matter, incredibly fair in grading and interesting to listen to.
Great command of the subject matter. Keeps classes interesting. However, he has a reputation for not being "the easiest teacher", but he definitely makes sure you know your stuff. Very fair in grading. Would highly recommend
You'll either love his classes or hate them. He provides a lot of material to help you out with the class, including voice recordings of the class. There is a participation grade, so don't think you can just skip and listen to the voice recordings. As long as you pay attention in class, do your readings, and do your assignments, you'll be okay.
Like someone already said, you will love him or hate him. I enjoyed the heck out of him & his class, got a good grade I deserved and honestly wish I had him for more classes.
Had him for web dev and hardware/software. lectures are a little boring. h/s is boring and he was very disorganized with the assignments and grading but easy. webdev lectures are mildly interesting and the assignments are great for helping you understand the material. webdev is a good class to take with him and you will learn a lot.
Great Guy. Always listen to him and try as much as you can to understand his material. Easy to make an A. Good teacher.
Bob Brown is the best teacher i ever had. I have learned a lot from IT 3123 course.
He is a good teacher but watch out for his squirt gun and his solid state cell phone silencer
One of the best professors at SPSU. Had him for multiple classes. The homework requires some effort and the tests require you pay attention in class and study, but they are not unfair or very difficult. He also records all of his lectures and uploads them as podcasts so you can review them if you were absent or are studying.
He is a really good person and a very knowledgeable guy. He tries to crack some jokes and keep it loose and interesting. With this said he is a boring professor. Good, but boring. All classes consisted of an hour and fifteen minutes of powerpoint slides and him talking. Nothing hands on or interactive. Takes FOREVER to receive grades back, literally
He seems full of himself. He does know his stuff, but his lectures are boring. His jokes are sometimes funny but can also be repetitive. He can be nice when he wants to be, but don't count on leniency. If you do not give him the answer he is looking for on a test, he will not accept your answer, period. He wants you to know your stuff. You better.
The class itself isn't too hard. You do need to study for the class to do well, however. For the first test, look at the Sample Examination. For the second test, review the first test and material covered since then. Lastly, for the final, just study the two tests he gave you and study the last few PowerPoints after Test 2. Best of luck!
I enjoyed taking this class with Dr. Brown. He goes through the slides quickly and expects you to read the textbook outside of class, but he will help you if you struggle. Tests are 25+ questions and short-answer, so you definitely have to learn the material. I would definitely recommend taking a class with him, though.
Probably one the best professors I have ever taken at SPSU, his Assignments are acutally informative and his knowledge of the material in comparison to real world applications is top notch. His Tests are fill in the blank usually 25 questions but I had a 33 question test cause of summer. Overall if you take this class you will learn stuff.
Best & favorite instructor at SPSU & I just graduated. We need more Dr. Browns in the education system. He tells you exactly what he expects & what you expect. He has a real understanding and passion for technology & I enjoyed hearing him lecture on the topic.
AVOID. Hardest class I've ever taken when it didn't have to be. Homework counts more than tests. Homework grade is 100 or 0. Has to be EXACTLY what he wants. No leniency. He does give an opportunity to resubmit homework once, but it takes him so long to grade it you forget the assignment by the time you get it back. Lectures are EXTREMELY boring.
One of the hardest classes I have taken in college. The professor wants everything verbatim from how he taught it. He expected the answer to be identical to how he taught on the homework and tests. There is no leniency & homework is either a 100 or a 0. It took 3 months to get any assignments back. Avoid at all costs.
Very difficult. No leniency at all. I think the average for the first two tests were in the 60s. He is very intelligent so you will learn a lot. If there is a different option I would recommend taking that. My advisor even told me not to punish myself by taking two classes with him simultaneously. If you work hard, study harder, you will pass.
I believe professor brown was pretty straight forward, but there is no leniency in this course. We have to learn exactly as he teaches and he doesn't give partial credit. grading TAKES FOREVER and i mean FOREVER because I didn't have my lab grades or average to the course until AFTER my final. yes. AFTER MY FINAL. material is easy, tests are brutal
Unprofessional and condescending best describes this professor. You can have an answer 910 correct and he will mark the question completely wrong with a surly condescending comment. Even when you ask for feedback or guidance. Don't bother with a f2f he is completely evasive and doesn't pull answers from the class book but from an unrelated book.
Awful professor. Don't even know how is he able to find a job. He knows how awful of a teacher he is that he sees everyone in his class failing and he has to do dirty work by bumping up quiz and homework grades so he does't look bad to the school system.
If another instructor is offered take it. If not you must be taking "IT 4823 Information Security Administration". Expect 3 proctored test (including the final). All proctored tests are hand written, have multiple sentence or paragraph answers, and are very detailed. Expect 8-10 week delay on grades.
Dr. Brown was the worst teacher I've ever taken. Majority of people barely pass his class and a lot of people either fail or drop him. He doesn't tell whats on a test so you have to study all the slides. He makes Intro classes extremely difficult. Don't take too many classes with his or just take hardware or web development somewhere else.
If there's another instructor offered take them or wait and take this class somewhere else because you do not want to take his class. Not sure why he still has a job, he doesn't like to give second chances on any homework. If your computer shuts off during a quiz and you didn't finish he won't allow you to retake it. He takes forever to grade.
Be sure to listen to all lectures and take notes. Tests cover a lot of content, but are passable if you listen to and read over lectures. The class was hard, but now knowing what to expect I would take Professor Brown in the future. Assignments are short essay, and all tests are not multiple choice. The key to passing is listening 2 lectures.
Dr. Brown is a very good professor with many years of experience in the Information Technology field which gives him valued insight in teaching the information that students need. Dr. Brown is very knowledgeable and challenges the students with homework that requires more than just reading to find a textbook answer, it requires research.
Lectures are long & boring about stuffs which are like the old technologies. Be careful with his tests. You can answer what the questions ask but you wont get full credit for it. You cant use common sense in tests bc he wants the answers from his lectures. Textbook doesn't have the answers you're looking for. He said textbook is wrong & he's right
Dr. Brown isn't a very good teacher. He teaches old technology and he doesn't allow any makeups and even if he did he waits until finals to even give back grades. You can get a question correct in homework or a test and he'll still mark it wrong if he doesn't like your answer. He is also rather rude at times, I'd advise you not to take him.
Don't take him if you like clarity and transparency. Don't expect any hints as to what will be on his tests. Lectures and powerpoint slides are essential as the textbook material does not show up on any assignments. He won't grant retakes ever, even if you have something as serious as a death in the family (as I witnessed with another student).
Dr. Brown is very knowledgeable and respected. Class shrunk down a lot due to lectures are long (monotone). HWs have awful instructions (careful of his questions). He waited until 3 days before final to grade them. Tests are unpredictable. Just study 1000 slides of PPT. You will pass if you can memorize them all. Not sure why he became a professor?
People need to relax. He tells you what you should do to pass, just know the material well. - The first test is the hardest because of the new concepts - The assignments are harder than the tests - You can study just using the powerpoints - He gives partial credit and extra credit Q's on tests . There you go.
Dr. Brown is very organized in his class. His assignments require effort but really solidify the material being taught. I learned a lot in this class. If you want to do well, you must put forth an effort. Read the book, turn in the assignments early (and refresh on citations APA style), and study the slides presented and you will have an A.
I understand why people are complaining about Dr. Browns classes but this isn't the way to fix anything. If you really think he's not a good professor then go to the head of his department and file a complaint or take it to the dean. Truthfully that is the only way to have some change because Dr. Brown isn't going to change the way he teaches.
I wish I had chosen a different professor for this class. Dr. Brown has the potential to be a good teacher, but throws that away by not actually teaching you anything. In class, he goes over the PowerPoint presentation, but it contains none of the information he REALLY wants you to know. The quizzes and homework are ambiguous and pointless.
Bob Brown knows his stuff; if you are not willing to work, and expect an easy A, do not bother taking him. He wants you to actually learn the material, yes memorize the McCumber model in Information Security Administration. As a college professor he expects you to memorize some information, but he is willing to help you understand the material.
Very good lecturer that keeps things interesting with personal stories from the industry. Lots of funny sayings that will stick in your head long after taking the class. You will learn a lot in his class.
If you don't want to do college level coursework, or if you don't want to put forth the effort required to actually learn something, don't take this class. You will have to read the textbook, listen to his lectures, do the assignments, and actually study for tests (oh, the horror!) I learned a lot from this professor and would choose him again.
Out of all my college professors I dislike this guy the most!!!!!!!
Expect to spend 5 to 6 hours on homework only for him to chip points off of every answer right or partially worng. Then you end up with a 69's, 70's, & 73's on like 5 assignments.
The lectures are boring and I didnt learn anything. He wants everything verbatim to how he taught the course. Takes points off and insist I show my work (which I did in previous questions of a particular assignment). The quizzes and assignments are ambiguous. Must submit documents as .doc and not PDF or points will be taken off (possibly receive 0)
Take this class if you want to learn. He is a smart guy and you need to pay attention to his lectures. I was able to retain a lot of information by doing the homework asap and asking for questions if I didn't understand something. He is quick to help if you need it.
I have taken every class that Dr. Brown has taught in my time at SPSUKSU. He does post the lectures online as narrated slides, but I found that I learned more by going to the class. Do the readings; they help immensely. He bases tests on the hw and the quizzes, so study those. I loved all of his classes because I actually learned the material.
Took him online and the class wasn't hard but be prepared to study. You need to watch his lectures and make study guides from his ppoints. He won't tell you whats on the exams so have fun studying 200+ slides. He will say you need the book, but I got an A without it just using the lectures and slides. You learn but its too much reading.
I don't expect college to be easy but, this Prof. makes it damn near impossible to pass. He says read the book but, then says he's right and the books wrong. He lectures and doesn't even test you on most of the stuff he lectures. He doesn't emphasize material. You're pretty much on your own. I'm glad he's gone. Hopefully a diff Prof. will do better
Honestly Brown must be going on here giving himself good reviews lol. This guy graded our homework for the entire class at the end of the semester. We spent the entire semester not knowing what was correct or incorrect. I haven't found a student yet that is happy about taking this guy. Good luck!
Brown isn't that bad. He is definitely a tough grader, but it isn't anything you shouldn't be prepared for by now. Hardware Software Concepts is a tough course, but Bob Brown is an amazing lecturer; he's nice enough to post the recorded lectures online. He's a grumpy old man that despises plagiarism and poor grammar, but he's not a bad teacher.
Took the whole semester to grade assignments. Doesn't even provide you with the correct answer or any feedback. Class is boring because he doesn't stop talking. Stay away from him if you're looking for a more interactive class.
Doesn't return assignments. Grades assignments with a blow torch. Easily the worst professor I've had in college. He's only looking for what he thinks is right on the tests and will take points off for variations on words from "matching" versus "pairing". Avoid at all costs. Thinks he's Bill Gates but he teaches college. You won't learn anything.
Bob Brown aka Bobby Biscuits is very knowledge in IT, he records his lectures so you can go review them later. His exams are written and extremely difficult. He doesnt give a study guide. His homework assignments take an average of 5 - 10 hours to complete. He didnt grade most of our homework until the last week of class and chip away points.
Bob Brown was the worst teacher I ever had in college. When a student ask a simple question about the class he always has a smart remark. His test are very hard. The test are written answers and he will take off points if you dont answer the question like how he wants it to be answered. If you can take another teacher DO THAT. DO NOT TAKE BOB BROWN
Take his class if you want to learn something, not because you want an easy A. You will have to work to do well.
Be prepared to study A LOT. Attendance not mandatory, but if you want to pass, go to class. He grades very critically, and a large portion of his assignments and quizzes come from information from his textbook/slides. He does written exams, so simply memorizing information isn't enough. You need to actually know what he's talking about.
