so far, so good.

dr.b is a really nice guy. the class lecs are boring only bc the content itself is boring, but he makes the class interesting w/ his jokes. he goes way too fast when explaining things, so u prob have to go to office hrs to ask for a reexplnation on some things. he offers a curve & chances to bring ur grade up. the tests are not as easy as he
the tests are not at all as easy as he makes everyone think, but they're also not impossible. overall, he is very fair, helpful in office hrs, reasonable, and a great professor!the actual class material will prob not help u in the future unless u go into research or something. the lab notes & lab really help as far as understanding material, good luck.
Dr. B is an amazing Science prof, the material is boring but if your m&m you have to do it. Study and do better than the rest of the class, Yeh for cutthroat science majors.
Dr. Borgon is a really down to earth professor. The material for this class is pretty boring, but his enthusiasm makes it a little bit more bearable. He is really helpful in his office and his curve saves you. I have about an 80 average and still received an A. PS-There is no book for this class and there is extra credit.
Dr. Borgon has put together a valuable course in biochemical labortory.
The best part about this class was how organized this instructor was. Tests aren't easy, but do well in the labs to balance your grade. I hated doing the lab reports - don't procrastinate doing them! Research-lovers will like this class; I found the lab material to be much more interesting than the lecture. Over all, fantastic professor!
Prof. Borgon is amazing! The tests are very hard, but if you do the extra credit, come to class, and show him that you truly care (and mean it!) about the class, you'll be fine! He is very easy going and friendly, and really cares about his students. Just go to his office hours and ask for help and he will gladly help you!
This professor is horrible, I study really hard for this class and for QBM and I could't make higher than a C,Tests are really hard and the question are very tricky. He does not curvelike her say he is going to do, DON'T take him unless you have to!!!
After the first exam I had a D. He told me no one had dropped and I should stay in it. Around 80 failed the first test. I stayed in the class-failed the second exam and now it is too late to drop. He told me "It's ok, it the hardest class in the major." I study very hard for this class. Since Chai left, they want people to fail. No curves.
There is no textbook other than the lab manual. His notes are horrible. You must print the slides and translate the pictures into words during the lectures. The tests ask very specific information and there is just way too much info. There is some HW and attendance points. Overall, if you are taking any other hard classes dont expect to do well.
Dr. Borgon is a excellent teacher. He uses also of slides and tests from his notes rather than the book. Read the book and attend every class. The tests are not impossible but you will need to study, this is a science major class. The test questions are tricky. He did curve the class 5 points like they do in physics. Overall nice guy good teache
He's a great guy, but not that great a teacher. He's very nice which explains the positive ratings, but he teaches fast and the ppt slides lack a lot of information. Very hard and tricky tests. I studied hard and got a "C."
Great professor - but he's much harder for this class than for QBM. It's probably one of the hardest classes in the M&M major. To do well on his tests - take good notes and attend class! There's so much stuff he says in class that shows up on the tests. You'll have to study very hard to make an A or a B. Oh, and he's obsessive about proteins.
What I like most about this class is that Dr. Borgon and Dr. White challenge you. If this class was my only class this semester, I would have enjoyed the ride a little more. Instead it was a bit stressful. Overall, I would recommend this class. I wish Dr. Borgon taught Molec2 for next semester...I enjoy his enthusiasm and humor!
QBM with Dr. Borgon was a lot easier than Molec. I took this class simultaneously with Biochem and found myself studying for Molec about twice as much as I did for Biochem. And as mentioned, take your own notes -looking at the notes isn't enough. A lot of people brought recorders, and in retrospect, I wish I would have.
You must record the lectures and listen to them before the tests. This class has no textbook so the only way to get an A is to re-listen. It is very time consuming, but that's only right before a test. Borgon's funny and nice, but the material is not common sense and he goes fast. Record the lectures!
If your going to be taking Molecular Biology I you should already know that it DOES NOT have the reputation of being an easy class so be ready to work-Dr. Borgon is an AMAZING prof. he really cares about how you do in his class (as long as you care about yourself as well!) If you keep up with the pace and study hard you will be FINE! Tests are hard
Do not be fooled--dr.b is hard in molec. def go to class bc he drops a lot of hints during lecs about test material that is VerY helpful. i rec reading the sections in the book that are relevant to whats in the ppt IT HELPS A LOT. you must study extremely hard, and the tests are difficult and tricky.he does curve some in the end. good luck =)
i had dr.b for QBM, & again for molec1.QBM was pretty easy for me, but molec was another story. this class is very difficult, i think bc he doesnt want ppl to think just bc dr.chai isnt teaching, that he (dr.b) will be easy. howv, dr.b is really nice and a fair prof.study extremely hard, and look over old tests.he curves a lil at the end. goodluck!
Honestly, his slide packets are ridiculous and a lot of material. Attending class is mandatory - he takes attendance for extra pts and his NOTES are CRUCIAL for the tests, so LISTEN. As long as you recite the powerpoints and you fairly understand what ur reading..u will be fine. His curve for Molec 1 is not big but he does curve at the end
Dr. Borgon might be a nice guy, but he's sure a horrible teacher. He makes tests extremely hard and he's disorganized. I took him for Molec I, it was his first time teaching the class and over 80% of the class failed the first 2 tests. He does not curve. I would have preferred it if Dr. White had taught the class. She's hard but she teaches.
Mole I: Memorizers beware! Borgon tests are geared towards comprehension and your ability to analyze. He teaches CONCEPTS in class, and gives you application/practicality-type questions on the exams. If you can't handle this, check out the Arts and Humanities College, I hear they have a nice theater program. Amazing INSTRUCTOR. ;)
I love this professor. The class is very hard. It took a lot of my time. He's better than Chai though. Go and listen to his lectures. Study with the book. Understand the material, so that you can apply it on new situations. Good Luck to all taking Chai in the Fall!!! you'll need it. (Should've done it with Borgon)
Absolutely loved him. Yes he is extremely hard as far as test questions, but he is willing to help you if you just take the time to go to his office. He loves what he does (proteins are his baby!)and it shows. Record lectures, read the book, & study hard. He was my favorite professor & I'm sad I won't have another class with him!
I recorded his lecture, becuz he would talk for hours on a picture on a slide. you NEED good notes. No books, so go to class. He give random attendance points that can boosts your grade in the end. Its not an easy A, but do able. His exams are very detailed. RECORD HIS LECTURE !
Dr. Borgon is a very good teacher. His tests are really easy if you are a good memorizer. He is funny and nice in class, but mean and condescending in his office. That is my biggest complaint with this class.
QBM course, they changed the course numbers. He's a great teacher, though he's kinda absent in lab. Gotta go to lecture, b/c he gives "bonus questions" on the test which you only find out in lecture. I knew nothing about this course or content going in, but it was interesting, he made it "neat", if you will. He's a big webcomic fan too.
To the person below that said Dr. Borgon is funny and nice in class, then when he is in his office, he is mean and condescending...lol! He's not that bad. I think he works hard to be a good professor, but at times he tends to be on the defense, ready to stand his ground. Overall, I believe he is a very fair professor, and he has a lot to offer.
Lectures extremely fast, just shows pictures and then talks about them for the majority of class; homework is option but either his obsessiveness or his pedestal makes it angering to hand in; tests are very specific, if pictures are on exam they are in black and white, no curves; thankfully I'll never have to take another class with him again!
Excellent teacher. Clear, and he knows what he's talking about. Had him for QBM too. Some advice: record his lectures, take GOOD notes, and KNOW THE PICTURES. He curves at the end - I had ~82 at the end, got an A! People who complain it's hard aren't cut out for the major, or aren't studying enough.
He is a great teacher, very clear, nice, has good explanations, and is pretty lenient. He has 5% extracredit that you can do throughout the semester, your lab grade counts as 30% and lecture 70%. The lecture tests definitely werent easy but they were alright. Read the book before class, print out slides, take good notes, and study a week b4 tests
I do not recommend this professor. He pretends to be very helpful and nice in class, but going to his office he is mean, especially when you are not A student. I got B, but I did not enjoy this class at all. I hate it. If you go to his office and complained about your grade on the lab reports, instead of to help you actually he took more points fro
Go to every lecture and read the book. Don't bother going to his office hours for help; he is full of himself, not helpful what so ever, and will not schedule an appointment so that you can meet with him without 4-6 other students being present. Lab is a whole other story...be prepared to have points taken off for nothing.
This professor looks very nice, but he is rude and grades hard! I do not recommend taking his class. He took a lot of points on the lab reports for nothing. Do not go to his office for help because he is going to make you feel very miserable. Not help at all! Horrible class.
Do not recommend this professor. Avoid his class. Useless.A lot of empty spot in his teaching. He does not respect the students at all.I had 83.56% according to his calculation and some how I got A, but I still do not recommend him.
Dr. Borgon is not a bad professor at all. I can see how someone who has no interest in research and is only taking this course as a requirement for med school would be annoyed by it, but how do you think they make medical advancements? Research! Hate the class and be ignorant to science; just don't hate the professor who calls you out for it.
People complaining about this professor are simply not studying enough - you have to really learn and understand the information - which means spending time on it. He is one of the rare professors who wants you not only memorizing but also thinking critically about it and being able to apply it - and I think that is how a science class should be
I would NEVER recommend him. never available, has more time invested in his own research and 40+ TA's wellbeing than his students. he reads off his slides. the one time i made an appt with him he showed up 25 mins late. read the negative comments on this site to get a good impression of him. anyone who says he's a good teacher is in his pocket
I would ALWAYS recommend him. Always available; office hours every day of the week. He has not conducted research since 06. Relies on his volunteer TAs so that the students may learn from students who have taken the class. Ignore the negative comments on this site to get a good impression of him. Anyone who says he is a good teacher is correct.
Not the best professor. Wants you to overthink everything and expects you to know the book inside and out, word for word. Class isn't worth it if you're trying to enter med school. Might as well try Biology 2 before taking this class, especially with him.
Great professor, important material. He uses powerpoint correctly: minimal slides, which he explains with enthusiasm and humor. Tests are fair, tons of extra credit. Highly recommended.
Foe molec which is a boring topic, he makes it interesting. He is very funny and is an extremely helpful teacher. He is a teacher that really cares how well his students do, so he is always in his office to help. HW is helpful foe tests. His tests are really hard. Memorize book and ppts and you MUST go to class.
His section is harder than Dr. Whites but it's doable. His tests required more critical thinking than just straight up memorization. Go to class and take good notes because a lot of what he explains is relevant to tested material and most slides are just pictures. Dr. Borgon is a great lecturer and you'll learn a lot if you pay attention.
Great lecturer. He has an attitude which suggests he's not happy with teaching. Some of his TA's are not well organized. Must study conceptually not just memorizing slides. Don't be fooled by homework, project and lab grades as they will not raise your grade significantly unless you do well in lecture exams. He does not curve much.
Dr. Borgon is a great instructor. Does seem to have a bit of an attitude but helpful if seek his help. Must study and know the materials. He does not curve much. Probably 2 points total so don't count on it. Must pass lecture exams as they count for 70% of total grade.Lab is easy, Prof Verity is awesome! She should teach this class.
Dr. Borgon is a really nice guy, his exams are extremely fair, and he really doesn't try to trick you. He is well organized, and his lectures are really interesting. The lab reports and homework take a long time, but I studied for all of the exams the night before (not really by choice, I don't recommend it) and still got an A or B (not out yet).
Class is interesting, labs are fun but lab report grading is rough. Exams are worth about 70% of the course, study powerpoints and read the book to do well. Homework isn't worth much but helps with exams, be sure and do it. Working with peers is prohibited, which is sad since it sets a bad precedence for those wanting to get into medicine.
Dr. Borgon is a great lecturer and makes the material very understandable if you attend lectures. He throws in gimme questions on his exams that aren't related to the material and are based on random/funny things he said in class.
Borgon explains all the material clearly and in depth. There's a lot to know for the tests, but all the questions are very straightforward, no trickery. I just read the chapters before the test, got an A. The lab reports took me ~3 hours UGH. The homework helps understanding and is easy points. The lab quizzes are mostly on the previous lab. Enjoy!
He explains the materials very well. Don't have to attend class, just listen to his lecture then you are set. His tests are kinda practical, the questions require you to memorize, and most important is to THINK. Lab reports are tedious, and some lab graders are just brutal (like hendrick D:. He doesn't curve much, so you better learn.
Took QBM twice, but pulled off an A the second time over summer easily. Re-listen to the lectures after class, and don't just memorize the material, get a good understanding of everything and you'll be golden. DON'T GET BEHIND!!! And don't slack off on the lab reports. He's a nice guy, so go talk to him if you have any questions. Good Luck!
BEST PROFESSOR EVA!!!!!! Paying attention to the lectures and reading the textbook really helped. Don't hesitate asking him for help. He's really friendly and does his best to help everyone out.
He explains everything very well and makes an effort to not be boring. He is helpful in his office and even records his own lectures so that you can relisten later. Tests are hard because of the nature of the material but they are fair. He is super organized and has exam grades posted the day you take it. I wish more professors were like him.
Most difficult class I've taken so far. He seems friendly in lectures, but he's kinda rude.
Molecular Bio I is VERY difficult. His tests are 50 questions, and you have 50 minutes. With the complexity of the material, that's way too many questions for the time given. Very difficult class. Many of his slides are just pictures of random proteins with no information. Ehh.
A hard class, but as of now I don't know I don't know a better professor for molec 1, so this is your best option. To get an A you need to go to class, actively take notes on powerpoints as his slides are vague and mostly pictures. Homework was time consuming, and he is obsessed with evolution so you will get annoyed.
Interesting course. Not easy, but completely doable. He and Professor Verity wrote the text and it is probably the best textbook I've ever used.
I've taken both classes Borgon teaches. They are hard because it's detailed but he's an amazing professor and genuinely wants his students to be interested and engaged in science. If you enjoy learning you'll like his class. If you're just trying to get by you wont like it
Took Molec I over the summer with Borgon. I got a high A in this class by studying the Powerpoints, and only read the book if there was something I wanted to understand more fully. He basically explains everything in class so make sure you go! He records lectures but has multiple items on each slide so it's hard to follow him with just recordings.
Dr. Borgon is a great professor. He understands and truly enjoys the material he is teaching. I'm someone who finds Biology related classes to be very difficult due to the large amount of material that is required to be memorized. However, I LOVED this class. His book is VERY well written and easy to understand. Test Qs come directly from the book.
Thought I was going to hate this class but ended up loving it. The info is actually useful and interesting. You actually feel like you're learning and doing something in lab. Tests are straightforward - just know how to apply the concepts. Very fair and finally a prof that doesn't curve a lot so people actually get the grades they deserve!
Seems nice enough during lecture, but very mean and rude when you try to ask him a question outside of the classroom. I appreciated that he records the lectures and that his course and grading were well organized. I got a high B, might have been an A if he was more helpful.
I went to this class expecting a really rude professor based on his rate my professor but was pleased to find a very ok professor. He wasn't necessarily someone I would like to have a friendship with but he wasn't rude. Make your own judgement. The key to passing his class would be to read the book. The lab was tough. TAs are picky.
Great professor! Study his power points well and take good notes during lecture, and you will be prepared for the tests. He is fair in his questions and grading, and is one of the most helpful and approachable professors at UCF! Don't hesitate to go to discussion or office hours; he is always there to help and truly wants his students to succeed!
Seems to try to make simple material a lot more tedious then it should be. He likes to ask questions on really random points he makes during class, rather then on your depth of understanding of the material. As someone who is more of an analyzer then a memorizer, getting a B in both of these classes was pretty much the best I could do.
Honestly, Molec Bio I is hard but he does good job of getting the info to you in a way you're not horribly confused. Took it in the summer, he records all lectures & posts them, is very organized. MAKE SURE YOU STUDY! He will not GIVE you a grade but will make you earn what you want. Listen to lectures 3x each & pay attention. One of the best!
Very helpful course that prepares you for other required courses. He seems like someone that was picked on when he went to school. You're better off asking questions in class than during office hours. The only reason that I didn't make an A was that I had a horrible lab grader. My lab partner didn't lose the points I did with the same errors!
I think Professor Borgon is a great professor and plan on taking molec bio with him in the fall. He understands the content really isn't all that exciting so he always adds memes and gifs to his powerpoints to add comic relief. He has tons of resources so you can be successful in the course. DO HIS PRACTICE EXAMS - those questions are on the exams!
Dr. Borgon and Dr. Verity (lab) are extremely helpful and clear. A lot of lab reports and there are different graders so pray you get an good one. Homework that relates to each test, not too bad. lab quizzes are tough read the chapter beforehand. read the book understand the material and then connect it to the lecture power points. REQUIRES EFFORT.
Dr. Borgon is a good lecturer and really tries to make the material interesting. Attending class is a must since his slides can be very vague. Homework can be time consuming but its not really graded for competency as much as completeness. He record all his lectures and I would recommend listening to those before tests.
He is an excellent lecturer and covers everything you need to know in class. This is NOT an easy course so be ready to study! My advise is to listen to the lectures online and make notes in case you missed anything during class. Give yourself time to do the HW and study! (You don't need the book, he covers everything in his ppt)
In the powerpoint, he posts videos, memorize which videos he plays in class. Know what comic he talks about in class, and know which journal articles are important. He knows his classes are hard, and he doesn't curve in QBM, so make sure you study. The classes are boring, but you must pay attention. Ralston to lectures, do homework, and go to class
The class is hard and gets harder in summer since there's only 6 weeks. Four tests and one final. The only thing bothers me is that the professor doesn't seem like he cares whether you succeed or not. No extra credit assignment or curves.
Borgon does not seem to care whether students do well or even understand the material. Knowing the material does not help to do well on his tests. I wish there was a class that taught how to take his tests. Questions are made specifically as a mental game with the students. Education is about understanding and learning, not tricks and deception.
I took QBM and Molec 1 with Borgon and got an A in both. You have to know the material, but the tests are fair. He always responded to my emails within a day, but usually with in an hour of me sending them. I would not skip class, especially for Molec 1
Not sure how to succeed in this class. You can study power points for hours and still do poor. Borgon doesn't show genuine concern for student. He rather be tricky and deceptive rather than helpful and informative. No curves. Test are misleading. Stay away if possible.
One of the best professors I've had at UCF by far, he does a great job of making a dull class interesting. The QBM book and practice questions at the end of each chapter give all the information needed for the tests. The online practice even tests contain actual test questions.
Borgon is a great lecturer and is SUPER helpful. Every class I've taken with him has had adequate opportunities for assistance. He records his lectures which is a life saver and he is pretty clear on what is expected of students throughout his courses. His tests are fair and he also gives HW and practice exams to help with them. Honors Molec 1
Medical Biochem is a very difficult course (it IS a biochem course after all) but it has been incredibly useful for studying for the MCAT. Material is made relevant for biology-based majors and he is very receptive to student feedback and adjusts the course so that students are successful IF they put in the requisite effort. A great professor!
Medical Biochemistry was one of the best classes I've taken in college. Instead of other biochem 1 courses, med biochem actually focused on health professions and it made sense as to why I was learning it. I took the MCAT during my time in this course and I can tell you, Dr. Borgon does a fantastic job and following the MCAT biochem rubric EXACTLY.
Borgon is a good teacher ... DONT read the book since its not needed only refer to it if you need some clearance from his lectures which are key to doing well on his tests. If you dont listen to his lectures you wont do well on the tests. He will pull 80% of his questions from his lectures/ppts (Not the book) so know what he is talking about
He pretends to care about the students but he really doesn't. He just cares about his insignificant grad thesis about some protein called p53. Would not take again solely due to his cavalier attitude.
I like Bobby. Hes a cool guy who doesnt afraid of anything
I take borgon class and enjoy berry much. he has good teaching and funny beard!
Dr. Borgon is without a doubt one of the BEST professors at UCF. If he's teaching a course, take the chance to take it with him. I've learned more in his courses than any other course in college so far. He's also an amazing person outside of class. We definitely need more professors like him in the world!
He's serious when he says there is no curve. Exams are pretty straightforward but there's so much material in such little time (6 exams covering 28 chapters). Could've taken regular biochem and probably have gotten an A, but I decided to take this class because it would help on the MCAT. I take it Spring 2017 so we'll see if this class was worth it
Super helpful class to take before the MCAT. I'm studying for the MCAT now and referring back to the HW/slides as a supplement. If you want a good grade in the class don't devote all your time completing the HWs (they are stupid long), but instead know each powerpoint and read the book. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE OVER SUMMER!!
Borgon is pretty entertaining in class but as far as outside of that if you are not one of his 'favorites' he actually has a condescending demeanor and is quite rude. This class material is interesting and it is very possible to pass, I just will never go to him if I need any help at all, don't you dare inconvenience him.
Ridiculous with amount of hw's that he gives and how detailed they are. There're close to 90 questions per hw, 5 of them total. Each hw is at least 16 pages worth of answers. No curve, no extra credit. Takes attendance. 5 tests+final(cumulative). Minimum of 5 chapters per test. Multiple professors teach the class he is least favorite. Too much..
Required course for me. Mostly busy work. The worst lab reports I've ever had to write - really long and it's easy to lose points for leaving out a detail. Textbook is written by the Professor but not very helpful. This was the worst class of my entire biomedical program. Good info if you're going into research - otherwise, spare yourself.
Instead of making you learn useful stuff for your further education, memorize this research paper I added to the slides. This class was a complete waste of time, besides the fact that he's a complete ass he's very unhelpful and doesn't really care about students unless you're his favorite. You could study weeks for his test and still do poorly
You are better off taking Biochem I, this course is insane. 28 CHAPTERS. I think he curved one of the tests ONCE (2%?). HW is insane, it's usually 75 questions, but they have multiple parts (Part A through I). I wish I would have taken regular biochem, this class was crazy and drains your time (got a B, NO curve. Final is cumulative. Rude professor
Honestly, I didn't like him as a person, but he knows the field. Doesn't give any extra credit or extra points, but a mixture of exams, homework, quizzes, lab reports, and clicker points contribute to your grade. Read a lot, go to class, keep on top of everything. His exam questions are 80% memorization, 20% critical thinking. No dropped grades :(
Okay so this class is a lot of 411 but I think it helps integrate different science topics before medical school or pa school. The class has a ridiculous amount of hwk the tests are not hard just specific. The powerpoints are useful. Hwk useful for final. The class was curved a cumulative 4% when I took it. Work hard and you should be fine.
Alright here's the thing, Borgon is a VERY knowledgeable professor. However, he makes this class way harder than it has to be. I missed one lecture all semester, studied my eyes out, did all the homework, re listened to the lectures and still did not receive an A. Test are straightforward but so much info. HE DOESN'T CURVE AT ALL
The course is nice, I wish another professor tought this course.
this professor is easily one of the most accessible profs i've ever had. he uses this message board for the students to ask questions on and he will sometimes answer questions the night before the test like at 11pm. answers emails on weekends. on campus seriously from 7am-7pm it's insane. he's amazing and really cares if you do too
Took professor Borgon over the summer A period . Speaking up till the final exam ptofessor borgon is a really smart man, he really knows a lot about the material. He expects you to work so come in with that mentality. It's honestly not a difficult class if you really stay atop your stuff and make sure you watch his recordings if you skip class! lol
He is a fair grader honestly. His tests come from the material and test both your understanding and basic knowledge of things in molecular bio. The homework is long but good at solidifying concepts. The best part of this course was it had many interesting examples about biology in general, actually made learning just a tad more fun and engaging.
Hw is ridiculous. Super specific test questions w/ tests being 5-7 chpts worth of material. Some hw questions can't be answered w/ PP. Book is drawn out/redundant. Games/practice tests are useless cause test questions seem to be everything they didn't ask you on those. Short window to review tests/only 3 words per question. Unnecessarily difficult.
He's by far the best Professor I've had while at UCF. He's extremely knowledgeable on the subject & is available often. He adds in a lot of memes to break up content heavy Powerpoints. If you take good notes, do all the HW and practice exams you'll be fine. There's a quiz before each lab but if you read the lab manual the quizzes are quite easy.
Borgon is a great professor and I had a great experience in both QBM and Molec I. He is known for giving alot of homework and the classes do need work put in but he more than makes up for that in his teaching style. I feel very prepared being taught by him for graduate school and wish he taught all my classes!
exams are not based on the ppts makes questions up in absurd way when u answer based on ppt he does not give u credit for ur correct answer he says his answer is the best even if its a mistake on his end or lack of clarity u will lose points homeworks are ridiculously long and u get points off for using the ppts . worse grader in UCF
The course is heavy on exams, no drop test, and has a lab component. Need the book. (NO CURVE final grade 69%) The lab quizzes are very difficult and the reports take a long time. As the semester goes on, the graders will get harder and harder on the grading and the exams will become much more challenging. Practice tests are much easier, though.
Took Med Biochem, QBM, Molec 1 with Dr. Borgon. He does give a lot of HW and you have to absolutely study, but I did learn a lot. He seems intimidating but he's actually quite nice. Do not disregarding your lab quizzes, they can make the difference between a B+ and an A (my case). I actually enjoyed QBM a lot, but get ready to study from day 1!
Best Lecturer at UCF. If youre NOT LAZY & work hard youll get your desired grade. If youre looking for an easy class this is not it. My fave teacher so far.
None of Borgon's classes are easy. The amount I had to study for just a B is ridiculous. However, I feel like I did learn from him, and I would take his classes again if I could. The hw are lengthy, but it makes you study the material. The tests have specific questions so memorizing the slides are essential. Go to discussion if you can.
Dr. Borgon is one of the best professors I've had at UCF. He is professional, organized, and makes the lectures entertaining. He is clear about what he wants and quick to respond to questions. He is a tough grader though and the tests difficult. You really need to study if you want a decent grade.
QBM and Molec 1 are totally different monsters. Same instructor, similar grading/organization. if you're more biology focused, molec will be easier. If you're more math/application focused, QBM will be easier. Both have ridiculous amount of HW. Tricky wording on exams. Subjective grading on lab reports. Attendance 5% of grade, but mostly exams
QBM made me reconsider the career I was pursuing. The material was dry, that's coming from a student who took biochem, orgo2 and got As in both before taking his class. This class is work. He tries to seem fair but its a lie. his syllabus says -/+ grades could be given to help. I ended close to a B, used to always go to him, still did nothing.
Exams are multiple choice and come directly from the lecture, study guide and practice exams. Be sure to attend class as iClickers count towards 5% of your total grade. Homework questions come from lecture, study guide and practice exams, so be sure to pay attention. Pay attention in class so you don't have to review as much. Lecture heavy.
Borgon is super friendly and funny. QBM is just so boring and dry. The class requires a ton of time with lab and class. The lab reports are awful. Homework is tedious. If you keep up with the reading and study over time, listen to his recordings, avoid procrastinating on assignments, you should be able to get an A. Just work for it as always.
The hardest part of this class for me was the time spent on lab reports and assignments and trying to balance it with harder classes like organic chemistry. Lab reports took up to 14 hours for me and I got above 92% on all but one. My biggest help was going to discussion every week. Don't wait until you need help, just go and you'll be so glad.
QBM is basically a made up course (he had to write the textbook). Its a mix of bio 1 and chem 2. Very boring and dry. Lab reports are insane. I would not recommend this class or him to any student. The labs are totally worthless and are of no value. UCF should drop the course since it is the only university that offers this course. VERY Boring!
I've had a few classes with Dr. Borgon, but QBM was the first one. He's honestly one of the best professors I've had at UCF. He's very approachable too. I think there are bad reviews because of the difficulty of the classes he teaches, but that's just the nature of those classes. Science is complicated, but he explains it very well.
Borgon is an alright guy, but his class is run poorly. Homework can take up to 8 hours to complete and the answers can not be found in the material given to us. The tests are composed of questions that were not taught to us. Apparently it is a requirement to go to TA discussions or you will never find the information that will pop up on the test.
Test questions are very specific and unforgiving. Test questions are drawn from single sentences from 250+ slides or the questions are not even found in the powerpoints. My advice is to seek out a different professor if you would like to get a fair grade.
The lab reports in this class are harshly graded and unfair. Tests can be near impossible unless you can manage to memorize walls of text coming from his unrealistic number of powerpoint slides. Most of his questions are designed to trick you and not determine what knowledge you have learned. The single worst class in biomed and my only C. Thanks!
He gives 50 question free response homework assignments that total out to be 3000 words each if you want to get an A on them. This class will consume your time and directly impact your grades in other classes. Test questions are prepared to trip you up and are derived from thin air. Avoid this class if possible.
As others have stated, lots of homework, very specific test questions, lots of material to cover, especially close to finals. However -- Did learn a lot looking back. Listening to lectures online again helps you learn versus going to class. Really good lecturer when you listen and pay attention, no fluff and ties in everything together.
The amount of effort I poured into this class only to receive a B is ridiculous. His lectures only cover the topics on the powerpoints, and yet the test questions dont even cover the topics you will see on the test. There were questions on concepts I could literally not find in any material given to us or mentioned in lecture.
Impractical.
One of the hardest classes i've ever endured but I think it helped me grow and challenge myself as a student. The class offers resources such as office and discussion hours when one can go to get help on homework and test material, take advantage! Homework can take a while so start early! Recordings and powerpoints for test material! Start early!
This man has single handedly made the last 2 years of college miserable. His tests are highly unfair, his HW takes up to 10 hours to complete, and office hours are useless. Took this class at the same time as Molec 2, and Biochem and got a B in both courses, but had to retake Molec 1, what does that say about his teaching?
Dr. Borgon is a good guy, funny, smart, caring. His teaching on the other hand is dry and boring. His tests tend to have questions he didn't cover or is too in-depth. I wish he gave a larger curve. This was one of my last classes and I've never worked so hard, just for a B.
Unfortunately hes just not excited to be teaching. He seems very dull when giving his lectures. I got an A in the class by just listening to the PowerPoints. But if you can avoid going to class or making any social interaction with him its probably to your best advantage .
get ready for 50 Q homework with up to half of the questions having A-H
Dr. Borgon is easily one of my favorite professors at UCF. He genuinely cares about his students and their performance in his classes. If you don't understand a concept, he is more than willing to help you out. My advice: get a head start on hw and do it in discussion hours where the TAs can help you. You get what you put in to this class.
Dr. Borgon is absolutely one of my favorite professors at UCF. It shows that he truly cares about his students grades as well as them actually learning the material. He gives students multiples chances a week, with review sessions, to ask him or the TAs any questions. Very interesting class as well. :) Highly recommend
Im about to graduate and he gave me my one and only C here at UCF. Does this make me a bad student or him an unfair professor? hmmmm. Be prepared for test questions which were never discussed and the most homework I have ever had in a class. Good luck!
Took him for molec and QBM. He is a really nice person BUT he gives an INSANE amount of work. His test questions are so specific! You have to memorize everything on his slides. No drop tests, little to no curves. He lowkey evil under the Dad jokes and memes. I've never worked so hard for a B in my life.
His QBM has fantastic lectures, but he covers a ton of content in the course. Be prepared for lots of long lab reports, a few intense homework assignments. This course is time intensive but the content and labs can be interesting. Easy to get in touch with, and a pretty caring and very passionate professor. Would take again for other courses.
The lab reports are annoying, but put the work in to make them good + do them early. Study hard for lab quizzes, don't slack on any because none are dropped (but there's an ec quiz at the end). No tests are dropped, sometimes curves but not much, final is straightforward. Focus on the book more than the powerpoints. Tests are HW question heavy.
Teacher isn't that good. Explains the topics just fine but does not teach the way they test. My big take away from this professor is how they treated me when I came to them with a personal problem. I had an issue with the way one of the lab assistants spoke with me and he pretty much found reason to get me in trouble. Not very personable
I graduated and I am still in shock at how difficult this class was made for no reason. Even after getting through undergrad I still had to come back and warn my fellow premeds to steer clear unless you have hours and hours of extra time to camp out in his class discussions. He also gives out homework which will consume hours and hours of your time
He seems nice. Many Dad jokes and vibes. In reality, he is actually high key evil. Theres no way around him you have to take one of his classes if youre biomed. Proceed with caution.
I'm a junior in college and this was my first B, I hated so much this class that I'm so happy I finished it. This was during the COVID-19 situation and he wasn't even able to help us with some E.C or any type of curve. I'm honestly very upset that my only B is due to a class that is useless for medical school and that only UCF offers.
One of the best professors I have had at UCF. His lectures are amazing and entertaining, His tests are not bad and he gives practice tests for each exam. The only annoying thing is the lab reports but they are honestly not as horrible as everyone makes them out to be, just follow their format and don't procrastinate. I also love his dad jokes.
Great lecturer, I love his dad jokes. Don't bother buying the book, his powerpoints are enough for the class. The homeworks are annoying (50 questions) but they are a study guide for the exam. There is a practice test for each exam that gives you an idea of what the test is like. The topic was boring for me but I enjoyed his class.
Sweetest guy on the face of this earth! SO willing to help you learn -- will go to discussion sessions, office hours, etc. and continually offer them to you. He teaches hard content, but he makes sure to provide some humor and cool real-life facts. Love him, just wish that his homework was more relevant to his exams.
So many good things to say about Dr. Borgon. Had him for QBM, PILOT, and Molec 1. He gives LOTS of busy work (HW / lab reports) but they serve their purpose. After attending lecture, doing HW, lab reports, etc. I found that I actually didn't have to study much more. The tests are just like the practice exams and HW. He is also very organized!
I love Dr. Borgo. He's one of few professors at UCF who are passionate about what they teach and really wants to see his students succeed. Molec 1 wasn't too hard. Lots of powerpoints and HW but its very doable if you put the work in. Would def take again if I had too.
Though right now with COVID, you don't have to attend, doing a lectures are a must as many of the reactions happening need to be explained since a bare-bones picture is provided. Mr. Borgon's tests are extremely challenging. This class is very time consuming, and you should honestly expect in a summer section to study about 15 hours a week.
For my sanity, I accepted early on that I would strive for a B rather than an A. The class was way more enjoyable that way lol . Homework can feel never-ending, but it helps big time for the exams. You will need to WORK for your grade; study daily if possible, review the powerpoints, HW, attendance quizzes, practice exams, etc. Use every resource.
Borgon is a genius in the feild of molec bio. you'll have to work for an A, but if you study the powerpoint thouroughly, youll do fine. Didnt use the textbook as he covers all the material in powerpoints. Homeworks are tedious but exams are straigh forward. gives curves every now and then.
Dr. Borgon is hands down the best professor Ive ever had. The material is difficult, but you get what you put into this class. The homework is long & involved, but helps you learn the material. He truly cares about his students and does everything he can to help you. This class changed my life. Hes the absolute BEST.
Great professor! His lectures can be confusing if you don't read the ppt/book before class but he's always available in office hours/email. The homeworks & tests aren't bad at all if you read the book. He's goofy and makes the lectures enjoyable. He also provides some helpful out-of-class resources (discussions, lecture recordings, practice exams).
Borgon smoothly transitioned this class into a great online format. Exams were very straightforward from the powerpoints, with a small added curve. His TAs were amazing and involved. I liked how passionate & knowledgeable he is about Molec, plus he talked to us outside of class a bit too. I disliked the long, superfluous homework though.
His lab reports are tedious. His class is tedious. His homework is difficult. But the concepts run together like Lego blocks. It was not my favorite course, but the teacher is AMAZING! He's funny, smart, knows his material, and just an enjoyable person! Course is difficult but can be done, DO NOT fall behind and you'll be fine!
Borgon and this class was my source of joy this year, the man is a saint. His lectures are informative and concise, I would recommend reading the textbook before class for the most benefit. The tests are super fair, the homework actually helpful, and he even provided practice tests. He's just so nice, it was refreshing.
He is very strict with his class. You and classmates are not allowed to work together. You have to pay attention to a lot of details. He isn't as understanding as people make him to be. He will easily give you a zero if he feels you have not done something to his liking. Honestly hated the class and it gave me the worst anxiety ever. DON'T TAKE IT.
You have to earn your grade- heavy material. If you use ALL of the resources he provides, you will do well. I found utilizing the book questions helps reinforce concepts.
This class was unnecessarily difficult. The professor is not as understanding as he is made out to be. The concepts themselves are not difficult, it just a lot of information at once. Practice exams are not really helpful, and it's impossible to get A's on lab reports and homework which eventually tank your grade. AVOID!!!
Made lab easier than past sem. Lab reports but go to optional lab meeting. He's fair, easy to understand. Serious about cheating. Don't get bogged down by misc. examples in ppts. Focus on the main facts. Practice exams are key. Realistic to get A. No curve. 1 EC quiz. TA review sessions are helpful for the slightly hard hw but doable. He's good.
He seems like a nice guy but the amount of work that he gives is unreal. Homework with 50 questions but 5+ parts to each questions so youre really doing 100+ questions. He thinks that his course load is reasonable so dont think that it will get better in future semesters. He actually told us that he lightened the course load this semester LOL.
I took QBM and Molec I with Dr. Borgon in different summer sessions. I would recommend his classes if they are the only ones you take (preferably in the summer). They are pretty dense and time-consuming so be prepared. QBM with lab reports, and molec I with homework. But if you put in the large work effort needed, you can get an A/B.
Hes one of the most unreasonable professors that Ive taken during my time at UCF.
tough grader and gives you resources to study with, but when test time comes, nothing that he gives really helps you out. Tons of homework and quizzes due in a short amount of time and you will be up all night trying to finish. Tests are harder than they should be so I would avoid this professor if you can because this is my second time taking
Assignments are not helpful for the exam. The exams are tough. The homework is hard to finish completing in addition to having to prepare for an exam almost every week. He wants you to read extra articles in addition to the book.
I had a 3.9 GPA prior to entering his class... the funeral will be hosted in 3 weeks please come. I completed his tedious workload and studied hard only to find out his powerpoints and lectures are IRRELEVANT to the test. It is sad I have had to go through the first 2 tests to find this out, I will not quit! I purchased the book. Make lemonade!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS OVER THE SUMMER. I took it for summer A and it is ridiculous. Exams everyweek, covering 6 chapters. Lab reports (sometimes 2) due everyweek as well. Expect 40hrs/week just on this class. Do not take it if you have any other class that might even be somewhat hard. This class drains your soul
The class average on tests is 30/50. If you dedicate time to watching all the lecturers (6-9hrs average), reading all 140+ slides per chapter, answer all the 50+ questions (really 100 because each have abcd), and go to SI like I did, your test grade will be 30ish/50! It's insane how this class makes you work in vain. Low test is not even dropped.
I enjoyed the course. He curves exams based on class performance, but don't rely on the curve to make your grade; it's just a boost. This class is hard work for the 6 weeks with 30ish hours of work a week. READ THE TEXTBOOK, take notes on the objectives, work on the practice exams, turn in all your assignments and you'll be fine. DON'T CHEAT!!!!!
In some god given miracle I was able to get an A. I pulled 40 hour weekly sessions at the library and still couldnt pull an A on most of his tests. There are 50 question homeworks before each test but many of them are a-j. This class is ridiculous. The only thing that saved me was the final. Tests are EXTREMELY hard. He loves tricks question.
Great professor, class gets a bit repetitive is overall interesting and prepares you to work in the lab. Lab reports are not fun but IMO help a lot when you actually need to work in a lab. Posts his lectures online so you can watch them later. Gives practice exams that are very similar to the exams.
Dr. Borgon is very intelligent and he cares much about his students. The class was structure in a way that you can go to class if you wanted or watch online from zoom. The class itself has heavy material, but Dr. Borgon does a good job in preparing you for it with recorded lectures and homework. The homework is a bit tedious but is very helpful.
This class is horrible. There is a lot of work given but impossible to get an A on any of it. Both him and the TAs are strict graders and dont budge on anything and takes off points for little mistakes. Missed a quiz because it was over thanksgiving break and they wouldnt let me retake it. Not a course to make mistakes or slack off in.
His tests are incredibly hard and weighs them 60% of your grade and he gave us only 10 points additional for a curve for all 4 exams, the averages for each exam were 50-60%. He sent out an email that so many students asked him for EC and if you did ask him, he has the right to take the curve points away he added. People are just trying to pass.
Borgon is a king. His powerpoints are a bit cluttered but tell you exactly what you need for the exams. He's a clear lecturer and will answer any questions you have. Exams are fair about 95% of the time with the occasional question out of left field. But he is so nice and kind that it makes up for it. HW is similar to QBM with lots of questions.
Nice guy overall but his notes are way too scattered no straight way to study for the exams. PowerPoint's are basically useless homework it tedious which he would straighten out his course just a little bit.
This course material is tough, but Professor Borgon is so passionate about what he teaches it made me want to try even harder. He wants you to do well and if you put in the time with the material you can. He's literally adorable and a genius. Lots of science memes and jokes in his lectures which makes it more interesting.
He seems like a nice guy, but he isn't as he comes off. He literally just reads off his slides. His exams are so hard and his homework is so tedious, but there's no straight way of doing it because his course is all over the place. I wish there was another professor that was available besides him.
Textbook not really useful imo. You have to watch the lectures for the powerpoints to make sense. If you watch the recordings while working on the HW, and you study the HW + the practice tests, that's enough to get a B on tests. If you want As, take notes on the objectives in addition to HW and practice test.
This goes for QBM as a course, not so much the professors. He states that the amount of lab reports are required for accreditation. Depending on the semester you will probably have ~ 9 lab reports which take hours to complete, & 2 quizzes/week + hw. The class is weighted pretty fairly, and the content isn't super tough. However it is a lot of work.
5 exams are 80% of your grade. Hw (6) are 25-50 Qs with a,b,c,d amounting to more questions than you think which are only 2% each. Pretty much grading is extremely test heavy. 60% I would totally understand but 2% for the hw is waaay to less for all the time, detail and it graded on correctness to be 2%. Got mostly Cs and Bs on the exams.
Nice man w cute jokes. Good professor. Lectures didn't help much. Must read the book and powerpoints. Very time consuming lab reports/hw/practice exams. I got low C's every exam but high grades in everything else. Ended with an A-. The challenge in this class is spending enough time on the assignments. VERY time consuming material, but helpful.
Unfortunately, this is the only professor that teaches QBM. My strongest suggestion is to take one less class this semester. The content isn't too difficult, but the shear amount of work that's due every week leaves you little time to study for the exams. The Final is cumulative and no grades are dropped. You can take his course online or in person
Dr. Borgon is truly an incredible professor and definitely cares to see his students excel! Molecular Biology I with him was no joke. 80% exams (fair yet tricky), 12% HW (VERY tedious but helpful), 8% attendance quizzes and practice exams. Getting an A will take work as preparing for his exams will take a lot of time. Small curve each exam too!
Not as hard as people make it to be, just watch the lectures, read the book, combine the info, do the post chapter questions, do the practice test, start the HW and lab reports early, and you'll get an A. The final is also very easy compared to the 3 other exams, minimal studying got me a 94% on the final. I finished with a 97, very good professor.
Professor Borgon is a great professor. HW is long and tedious but discussions help answer a lot of the questions. He adds curves more towards the begining and less towards the end. Also curves at the end depending on varying circumstances i.e i had a 87 and ended with an A. Tests are specific so know the ppts, no need for textbook, know the slides.
You absolutely need the textbook, it helps you out a lot, especially with the reports. The class itself isn't hard, there's just a crazy amount of work due at all times. The TAs definitely don't make things easier so good luck with them. It's a heavy course so get ready to set a lot of time aside. You can definitely do well if you try!
It's hard to fail his class if you read the material. Also a great review of previous biomed courses. He focuses more on understanding the big topics than memorizing tiny details. Super personable, too!
I retook this class because I was not ready, but after taking it a 2nd time I can give a better review.the material is hard, you must understand it well to succeed because the exams are apply what you know.He gives alot of great resources, textbook is easy to read, his canvas is organized.Just keep up & study and ask questions in the discussion w TAs
Dr. B is the best. Lectures line up with homework, practice tests, study guides, objectives list, exams. You couldn't ask for more resources. There were a million (okay, maybe like 40) discrete graded items in the course, but by the time I was done with HW, quizzes, practice tests (unlimited attempts), I was ready for the exams.
Dr. Borgon is one of the best professors I have ever had at UCF. His classes are difficult -- but that's just the subject matter. The class is very doable if you utilize the many resources he gives to you. Between him and Professor Weigel, he made my experience at UCF one of the best!
Words cannot describe how grateful I am to have had him as a professor. Experienced personal as well as technological issues during the semester & he was very understanding. You can tell he loves what he does which is refreshing. A lot of info but i liked that he showed vids to help bring everything together. REWATCH LECTURES + write summary notes
Really great professor! Dr. Borgon really cares about his students and will take concerns into consideration. Throughout the semester he made changes to exams/hw based on student feedback. this isn't to say the course is easy-its not. The class is test heavy, doing well on the first exam helps you later so don't slack. Hefty HW but he curves exams
Borgon is a treasure. I love his enthusiasm for the material, and he is very genuine. Honestly I found the workload to be overwhelming. I found his exams impossible to do well on, despite keeping up with the homeworks, lecture quizzes, and practice exams. Homeworks will take a lot of time. He does curve.
As always- the best professor at UCF BSBS. Class is simple- read over the powerpoints and answer the objectives. I highly recommend writing down all the homework questions for your cheat sheets on the exams. He also curves A LOT (added about 6-7% to the exam grade over the course of the semester). Also do not ever ask for a curve or he revokes it.
Professor Borgon is one of the best professors at UCF. He cares for us and adapts to our needs. Make sure to study the homework and practice exams for the midterm exams and final. Can use cheat sheets during the exam and gives extra credit depending on the average of the class. He really wants his students to pass.
Dr. Borgon is the best. This was my first time with him & I look forward to the other classes he teaches. Lots of cushion grades, curved a good bit on every exam, even bumped by 88.7 to an A. Allows unlimited cheat sheets for exams, basically gives you everything to succeed. Highly recommend
Good professor, basically everything is off the powerpoints which are uploaded on webcourses. Weekly attendance quizzes, practice exams, homework, and exams make up your grade. Exams are a mix of multiple choice and pull down menu fill in the blank questions. Some questions from practice exam and homework are on the exam's which is nice.
Amazing and caring professor with clear expectations. EVERYTHING IS IN THE LECTURES. Open note exams, with curves (sometimes), and lots of practice material. Truly one of the best I've ever taken at UCF. It's a hard subject, but he makes it doable and interesting!
This guy is great. Lecture-heavy, but the lectures are boring and he talks slowly. Watch the lectures at home at 1.5x speed. QBM is hard but the key is to do the practice exams multiple times. Open note exams but you can only use handwritten notes. If you want to use iPad notes, you have to take the exam in person. Otherwise, you can do it at home.
It's refreshing to see a prof. that truly cares about their students/listens to their feedback. Has assignments for the purpose of reinforcing info for the exam (redoing them helped). Generating my own q's and putting them on flashcards helped me a lot too. It's a hard class but Dr. Borgon goes above & beyond to try to make things easier. Take him!
You can tell he cares about his students. The class is difficult and requires a lot of review on your end, but it just the material itself. Dr. Borgon makes it very manageable with open handwritten notes on exams. Homework takes a while but it acts as a good summary for exams. He always has a great attitude and is willing to help.
Class was alright just a lot of work to complete. Would recommend him as he is very engaging and loves what he teaches.
Dr.Borgon is amazing! you can tell he truly enjoys teaching the information. Overall the class isn't too difficult but its very test heavy. You have 4 exams+final with attendance quizzes and 4 homework assignments. Tests are crazy difficult he allows note sheets on exams. Getting an A is doable you just gotta put in the time.
Dr. Borgon made this class fun. He is socially awkward, you can tell, but he dearly respects his students. QBM lab was so fun. The lectures had a lot of details to understand, but it was doable. His exams are online. He does have a textbook available to purchase, but posts his ppts on canvas. Overall, I would have done better if I wasn't so busy.
Robert Borgon is the best professor I have ever had. His classes are difficult so you really have to study and take really good notes, but he is extremely fair and transparent about what his exams include. You can tell he really enjoys his job, which is pretty rare for professors.
Robert Borgon is the best professor I have ever had. His classes are difficult so you really have to study and take really good notes, but he is extremely fair and transparent about what his exams include. You can tell he really enjoys his job, which is pretty rare for professors. Labs were a really great experience, and the TAs are very kind.
Borgon is a definitely one of the best professors I've ever had, however his classes are by no means easy. Exams are completely, however they are proctored and you aren't allowed to use anything else (though based off class averages it seems like people did). The exams are honestly really difficult and cover specific details so definitely study.
The best option for QBM, Medical Biochem, and Honors Molec 1. Honestly, loved Dr. Borgon and wished he taught Molec 2 as well.
He is really chill and he posts his lectures online so you can review it for later. Exams are also online with video recording. You can have notes on the exam, but it has to be hand written and varies if you are taking online or in person. He is funny and can go on tangents during lectures but it adds some character.
Best professor I've ever had. Every single aspect of the class is sensible and fair. Tests are straightforward and follow the book questions, homework, and practice exams as he preaches. He's very genuine and I enjoyed learning the material because of him. Model example of what a professor should be.
i have a high B, might get an A depending on the final. dr. borgon is an incredible professor! his lectures are clear and easy to understand, his ppts organized very well and he gives so many resources for exam prep. exams are very fair. he also allows unlimited cheat sheets on exams! you can tell he enjoys teaching this course. take him!!!
Nice presenter, otherwise 40 assignments here you come. If you have to take Medical Biochemistry, good luck. If you don't have to then don't. Just avoid this class overall. Too much work for a little reward. The test has 50 questions but surprise each question has subquestions, you only get 50min in class and an hour online.
I had a great time in his class. He's understanding, funny, and down-to-earth. It can be alot to complete (practice exams, attendance quizzes, hwk, exams) but they do prepare you well for the exams. The lab also changed their syllabus from previous semesters-you have to do 3 lab reports in total, which is more manageable in my opinion.
In academia's sway, Borgon leads the song, Guiding with care, we all belong. His passion ignites, amidst tasks and strife, With Borgon's wisdom, we embrace life.
Incredible lecturer. Organized course well. Seems like an amazing person too, and it shows that he cares through his lectures. He truly does want his students to succeed, but only if they work for it. Never ever email him about changing your grade......
Dr. Borgon is easily the best prof I've had, lectures were super helpful he really knows what he's teaching and it shows. I did online but you could go in person too, extra credit given on every exam. Open notes but don't slack you have to really really know the material he asks very specific questions but he was still very fair with everything.
Dr. Borgon is hands down the best professor in the department. The sole complaint I have for Molec 1 is that it is DIFFICULT, but Dr. B sets up his classes in a way that ensures you come out of it completely knowledgeable in the subject. Everything is very organized, lectures are recorded, and Dr. B responds to emails very quick. He's the best!
If you don't put in the effort to take notes and look over the material and memorize what he is teaching it would be hard to pass. He does give unlimited cheat sheets but there isn't enough time to go over them without knowing the material. His practice test and hw are not helpful but they help as a grade cushion.
Very heavy memorization/short-term memory class due to the amount of material required to know. If you wish to get an "A", and never think about biochem again, this is the class for you. A lot of busy (but useful for the exams) work and the tests are deliberately specific. Borgon is cool, but his lectures are meh and his powerpoints are poor.
Exams are the bulk of the class and are very specific. But, they are open-note and online with proctoring and timed. Questions are very specific. Lectures are useful for quizzing yourself.
He is the protein man. Makes his lectures engaging with mid-lecture attendance quizzes and relatable comics. Lab section was very fun.
Dr. Borgon is an amazing lecturer and is insanely fair on what he expects from us when taking this course. The homeworks can be a bit tedious but they will definitely help you prepare for the exams. The content is on the heavier side, especially during Summer A, but if you utilize the practice exams, homework, and powerpoints, you will do great!
Professor Borgon is an incredible professor. He is kind, caring, and has a clear understanding of the material being taught. I took this class first, but didn't know it was not recommended til some of the others were taken first. Took this class outside of my degree. He is approachable, kind, and funny! I look forward to taking all of his classes.
professor Borgon is an amazing professor, his test can be a little tricky but doable if you follow his objectives, redo the h.w (unlimited times), and watch lecture videos (from current + past semesters), must put time into his class to pass with a high grade, is available quickly through emails or office hours, will take him again in the future.
Prof. Borgon's class can be challenging, but if you engage with the material through homeworks, practice exams, and lecture videos, you'll succeed. For study prep, I found Unstuck ai and the free textbook really helpful alongside the usual resources.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. I got A's in all my science classes except for this one. If you like biology this class Is for you; if you prefer chemistry, choose regular biochemistry and not this class!!!
He's kind + a cool professor but his material is so dry. He mostly reads off his dense PowerPoints. I took him for Molec 1 and it was the same thing. He's knowledgeable and willing to help but learning from him was like swallowing a big dry pill. His tests are pretty detailed. Lots of work- helpful for tests but rough to get thru. Not my style.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE just take regular biochem. Very test heavy with slight buffer with homework.
I've taken all of Borgon's classes. Easiest to hardest in order: QBM, Med Biochem, Molec Bio I. Everything for the classes are super organized on webcourses. Every test is based on the objectives he creates for each exam; just do objectives using ppt, review them, and you'll be fine. Same thing for all 3 of his classes. Gives exam bonuses.
Professor Borogn makes this class very easy to pass as long as you put in some effort. All exams are open notes with unlimited note sheets, and there are a couple of homework and practice tests to help cushion your grade. Professor Borgon was a great professor who knows what he's teaching and cares about his students.
good guy but his grading system isn't the best. test heavy but allows hand-written notes on exams. 3 lecture exams + 1 cumulative final. curved the 3 exams by 4 points. responds quickly to emails, dry lecturer. lab reports arent hard but have no rubric so you never know if you're doing them right until you get the grade. don't bank on the +/- curve
This class starts out easy, then gets harder as the semester progresses. Exams are fair and come straight from the lecture notes. Labs are understandable, with fair grading, and do not take the entire allotted time period.
Dr. Borgon was very knowledgeable about molecular biology and encouraged students to explore the course further. Lectures were engaging and extra credit was given at the end of the semester for test grades.
He's a great professor! Gives curve on every exam minus the final. The exams are not hard at all and the study guide helps a lot. I found the subject boring, so it was hard to study sometimes. His teaching style wasn't much engaging either, but totally doable! Assignments are easy and can help boost the grade.
Tests are specific but not extremely hard. His finals are always a breeze and the highest exam. Does not drop exams. Very passionate and well versed prof. I loved the lab section of this class and it was by far my favorite class taken at UCF. Tests are open notes but use the objectives sheets. TAs are AMAZING. 10/10 would take again.
This class material is probably one of the most boring ever to me but Borgon teaches it well and the course is organized extremely well. Grades come almost entirely from 4 midterms and a final, but notes are allowed on exams and there are practice exams with a similar style to the real exam. This does NOT mean that the class will be easy.
I was scared going into this class as I had heard mixed reviews in the past, but it was great! The material for QBM is a lot, so I can't say it is easy, but Dr. Borgon's lectures were very helpful and he tries to make class as entertaining as possible. He is very passionate about this field!
Overall not a bad class. Everything is online if you want it to be. All the attendance, hw, quizzes for the module are due when the test is due. It's not hard just a lot of material. You can bring your notebook for the tests so you're pretty much set if you stay ontop of it and take good notes
Dr. Borgon is great! The course consists of attendance quizzes, homeworks, practice exams, and 5 total exams that allow handwritten notes. Assignments are online and easy since you have many attempts. He provides a lot of resources and lecture recordings. One practice exam is dropped and some bonus points are given but only for the first exam.
nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
I took this class and micro at the same time. I learned a lot more in molecular biology than microbiology and didn't lose my mind like I did in micro having to memorize minute details for no reason. He does ask some really specific questions on exams but it's open note (nuff said). The material isn't easy but he gives you opportunities to succeed.
Borgon is awesome! He really cares for his students and you'll see this when you see how his course is set up. The only complaint I have is that he talks way too fast during his lectures and it's hard to keep up and write every single thing. Otherwise, I would recommend and this was an interesting course and will help me for the MCAT tremendously.
I have taken Professor Borgon for both QBM and now Molecular Biology. He is one of the best teachers on campus. His lectures are very important to attend, or else you will fail the exams. Has homework with unlimited attempts and provides many practice tests. His exams are open note, but they are quick, so be wary of your time limit.
Borgon is the bes and truly cares. QBM has lots of info but follow the exam objectives and you'll do fine. I didn't discover these until the end of the semester and my grade went from a C to a high B. Unlimited notes for exams. Recorded lectures. I did online lab and did poor on the lab reports. I really wish I did in person lab for the experience.
Molec 1 can be a lot but Borgon makes it manageable. Follow exam objectives as they mirror the exams. No textbook so all info comes from the slides but he breaks it down and explains the content well in the lectures, so watch them!! Aim to understand, not memorize. Open note exams. I also took him for QBM and will be taking him for med biochem too.
Lectures are recorded and "attendance" is a 5 question quiz that he gives answers to, tests are open note, HW and assignments to boost grade (open note and unlimited attempts) very kind and passionate, cares about his students, BEST professor at UCF, taking again for QBM
The tests are a great majority of the grade, so you HAVE to do well on them. However, they are pretty straightforward. There's just a ton of information, but he allows you to utilize handwritten notes on exams. He always records his lectures, and he links videos for every section to help students understand. Textbook is there but not required.
Dr. Borgon is a great professor and isn't boring when he is teaching his material. Class was pretty challenging with 75% of the grade coming from exams which are very in depth.
I've taken Borgon for QBM and Medical Biochemistry, and I'm taking him again for Molec 1. Attendance isn't mandatory and he allows notes on exams, which can be taken in person or online, though the questions can be detailed and the exams are timed, so if you're flipping through your notes for every single question you won't finish on time.
Borgon. He's a decent professor, not super duper awesome, but not horrendous. Reads off the PowerPoint but added more detail for certain topics. He has prerecorded lectures for the chapters. He gives out online practice exams/exam guides to help with the exams. But the exams are 60% of the grade, so you can't slack off on them. 7/10
This class was difficult for me solely because I was taking this and three other courses, so I didn't learn this material as well as I should have. He allows notes on the exams and also adds exam bonuses, but don't rely only on those things to pass the class. Actually watch the lectures, don't just CtrlF the answers to the attendance quizzes...
Awesome professor as always, makes learning biochemistry fun and not tedious
Just started the semester will update later. Hard material (not an easy class so don't expect a light load when taking it), amazing professor. I feel like I'm in a bill nye video every time I'm in class. So funny, very thorough, answers questions throughout the lecture. Best professor at UCF hands down.
He was a great professor but lectures were a LOT. There was a lot of content covered but he recorded it all. You got a handwritten cheat sheet with as much info as you want every exam. He curved every exam with about 5 points per exam so 20 point curve overall. Final wasn't curved but wasn't too bad either (got an A with cramming).
dont take this professor.
Hard class but he made it doable. A is very achievable, online exams that are open note however questions are EXTREMELY specific, you wont have time to flip through notes so know them inside out. Nice guy, only curved our first exam, said he would curve final grades if you're at a 79.5 or anything of the sort. Put in the work and the A is yours.
Dr. Borgon's Lectures are jam packed with information in the form of PowerPoints. His exams are open note and in most cases he will give curves, just don't ask him for it or he will SLIME YOU OUT. He is very approachable and knowledgeable in his field and has given me guidance for many research projects of mine.
Nice person, but not a very good lecturer. Exams are extremly specific and there is too much information to learn for each exam plus the cumulative 100 question final that took yrs off of my life. This is a class that should be taken with a lighter course load and it would be doable to get an A or a B. Struggled in this class more than in orgo...
Biochem is inherently a difficult subject, and his tests were extremely detailed. The practice exams were easier than the actual exams. I found the listed objectives to be the most helpful. There were very few assignments in the course and your grade is mostly based off of exams.
