very interesting guy, mostly discussion in class. grades are tests and notes. easy, but i still learned.
Goes beyond just facts and really made me think just how important this stuff is to my life! Showed real concern for my progress when I asked for help. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to get something real out of school!!!
Very informative class discussions, very open minded, accepting teacher. Gives good opertunity for extra credit, you'll probably want to take him up on them too.
I was very excited! I learned more tan I expected and he made it so interesting. he puts his heart into it! Really! Take this class.
I had him for three classes: political science, comparative government, and U.S. Constitution. Excellent teacher. He punctuates the material with interesting tidbits about the world at large. I highly recommend him.
Mr. Brem is a very good teacher and he goes above and beyond with the explanations. He has no problem with repeating himself and is very confident with the topic. He is hands down one of the best teachers I have ever had and I would highly recommend him. He made me interested in the subject of history and political science.
He's a very boring teacher. I feel as if he's class is a waste of time. I am not learning anything from him. He expects us to read the text but doesnt teach from it. What a waste of my time.
He makes you think. He shows you how everything is connected and how it makes sense. The book is great and not that expensive (cool). He is probably the most interesting teacher I have had in all of my classes. He doesn't bore you with just facts -- between his lectures and the book, I am learning a lot of great stuff! Take this class!
Most annoying teacher. Also the most intelligent. Makes the topics so interesting and so complex. You WILL learn in his classes whether you like it or not. Would reccomend this guy to anyone who wants to learn.
Robert is awesome! I probobly have learned more in his class about the world then in any other class. I think his classes should be mandatory for living life. LOL! He makes you think wheather you want to think or not. His philisophical topics are very deep, especially his lecture on 'flat land.' his unique approach to politics is very real and points out the reality of the world today. Robert's Abnormal Psychology class is probobly the most facinating class I've taken.I recomend him for the heavy thinkers.
Brem knows a lot political science. His class is very easy and you get to learn a lot. He gives students a study guide and he expects his students to find the answers for the exam. Most of the exam questions are given in his study guides. The only way you can fail Brem's exam is by not finding the answers to his study guides. If you put some effort
Bring a tape-recorder if you can't write fast. This guy is full of info and is VERy helpful. His test ... are a bit hard if you don't understand the materials. His classes are designed so that you can still pass if you get all Fs on your tests.
Brilliant, erudite, teaches at college level. Fun, stimulating class that will challenge you to think outside the box.
Mr. Brem is a nice and funny person, BUT his teaching style to me isn't great. THE WHOLE ENTIRE time, it is just him talking, talking, talking, talking, talking, about whatever he's talking about (nothing to do with the book). His exams are very hard, BUT if you have PERFECT attendance, and do the one paper, and still fail 3 exams, youcanstillgetaC
His testing system is way too easy to be true, just be ready to dive into the book and look up the answers to the study guide. Questions are likely to be the same. However, the lecture plays an important part because at least 1/3 of the test are based on stuff he said IN CLASS-TAKE NOTES! And TYPE THEM UP, because you'll have no turn them in. Easy!
Take notes... you will need them at the end of the semester. Get a book, I had a hard time without one because you need it for the exam study guides. Overall, good teacher. He knows his stuff.
This is the best professor for politics (and he teaches psychology too!). He uses the book a great deal for tests (so read them -- but lectures on how to use the material). If you have questions he will custom tailor the lecture to your needs and if not, he will lecture about how to think about poltics in a way that is useful to you. Great guy!
I took his class over the summer, and it was a piece of cake. Not only was the class easy, you take a lot from it. Professor Brem is hilarious and keeps lectures very interesting. I was not bored at all. Just keep taking notes and look over the study guide, and it'll be an easy A.
I never imagined that a class in politics could be so helpful to me in finding my major and career! We talked about things I never imagined before! I can't stop thinking aobut the stuff we looked at in thsi class!!! The work may be hard but if you do it you can't fail and you'll be glad you did! All I can say is Brem rocks!
Brem is SO COOL. I loved his class.!!! he teaches like no other professors. he knwos his stuff.. He can argue with you till death! and he stills knows what is he talking about. if you question him he questions you back with a good question that makes you think hard!!. his test are easyy!!!! he gives you a study guide! MAD GOOD PROFESSOR!! A+++
good teacher
Brilliant, funny, engaging, teaches at the COLLEGE level. Pay attention, keep a good portfolio, take notes, learn and listen. He will change your life.
Awesome political science teacher!!! Always talks about the most interesting subjects that are happening in the news and relates it to the class. The best teacher I've ever had.
Professor Brem is such as good teacher, he is more than willing to help you out with anything. His lectures are interesting because they deal with what's happening in the world today. The only thing you need to do in this class is come to class everyday, keep your profolio updated with all your lecture notes that are neatly written or typed, annota
A good professor. Has SO MUCH passion for political science and physiology!!! I love it when he combines the two together and you get the psychology of politics! Even if you are an anti political person like I was you will love the class!
He makes the class very interesting. Gives a study guide for each exam, make sure you DO IT and remember what answers you chose. The ?'s on the exam will appear the same. The rest of the exam is made up of things he said in lecture. There's also a notes project at the end. Just type your notes, put a few articles in it as well = A
He's such a great teacher! I wasn't really into political science until I took his cl****. He's also very funny.
Wow!!!! If you have not taken this class Political Theory you'll have your mind blown! You will look at stuff you couldn't have imagined.... and it is so much more interesting than Poltical theory at SFSU!!! (the guy there is as tedious as it could possibly be). Anyway, take Brem -- he is funny and knows a lot that is helpful.
psychologist incorporates psychology into politics, very interesting, points out things you never notice, 3 tests, hands out study guild that has half the questions thats gonna b on the test, have to make portfolio base on class lectures, one paper, doesnt really read the stuff you hand in just gives you full credit for it.
i miss this class! it should be held in a coffee shop. that would be the more suitable place for the exchange of the ideas we discussed. brem is funny, fair, and almost wise. he gave us the choice of writing about our own/someone else's pol. ideology or answering several questions that reflect our ideology. the portfolio was mandatory. take it!
Hands down, the best professor from whom I've ever had the privilege to take a class. At the end of each evening class, even though it was 10:00, nobody got up to leave - it was that interesting. Brem teaches not just information, but rather a new way of thinking about the world. It's not just politics, it's how people work. I miss this class!
Comparative with Brem is like incredible!!! I took it last year and I really understand how the world works so much.... like, the news is actlly fun to read and get because of Brems class! Ya got to take this guy!
He's an extremely teacher to take, since he's also a psychological therapist,he mixes a lot of psychology into his lectures. He tends to repeat himself in lecture, and he doesn't really refer back to the textbook, which doesn't help you if you want to confirm answers to the study guides he gives you, but he's still a very interesting and funny teacher.
Very, very liberal. Very animated. His political theory class changed my life. He's by far the best teacher at college of alameda. If you're a political science major he'll definitely prepare you for the next level. Make sure you read his handout, there's a lot of good stuff worth knowing that you'll need at a 4year. Highly recommended.
His class was pretty easy. just come to class and take down the notes because in the end you'll have to do a portfolio consisting of notes, articles and journal writing. Whatever you do dont procrastinate on the portfolio! Its too much work in the end. You only use the textbook for the study guide and about 3/4 of his test come exactly from the s.g
I took Professor Brem's Political Theory class for my MPA program at CSU East Bay. He was one of a handful of teachers I would LOVE to have again. Although his lectures are liberally biased, he is extremely knowledgeable and respectful to alternate points of view. If you have the opportunity, do yourself a favor and take his course.
He is one of the greatest teachers I've had. Liberal yes, but also stresses how every side of the argument is important. I looked forward to his class every time. I even started recording the lectures for myself because I loved the class that much. Just make sure to type your notes regularly or you will be missing a lot of sleep for a few days.
Professor Brem is ONE OF THE BEST political science instructor ever! Just take notes, Do your articles, term paper, reflections, and go to class everyday and you will get a good grade. You will learn a lot from this class. Thanks to Professor brem I am now into politics. This class is worth your time and money. Recommended for anyone.
Brem is the best prof in College of Alameda. He knows his stuff very well. A lot of work but all worth it. He is very helpful. I highly recommend him.
he is a very fair teacher will help you as long as your helping yourself
HELL YEAH, BREM's WASSUP. <br><br> MUN REPRESENT DAWG, US DELEGATION YEEEEEEE!!!!#!112!!!1.
I love him ! His lessons are so inspiring. He combines psychology and philosophy to teach politics. Seriously take him. Do the work, it can be a lot but in the end it's worth it. He looks hard but it's quite easy. Love his class :)
Great teacher. Knows his stuff and is able to relate everything to real life. Don't bother taking it if you can't stand liberals, as he is well on the left.
Brem is by far one of the best Professors that I have ever had. Taking his class will completely open your mind and explain everything there is to know about various thought processes in politics. He is also an incredible lecturer and can be very inspiring. If you don't enjoy government and politics, you definately will when you leave.
Wow, he's great! He's the best teacher i have had so far. his lecture is very inspiring and interesting. I didnt like politics, but i didnt feel boring at all in his class. Take his class, you will enjoy, 100% sure. ^^
Do yourself a favor and take this class. Even if you do not like politics you will enjoy Brem. He is entertaining, enlightening, and will keep you motivated to learn what he is actually teaching. I wish all of my teachers used the style of teaching that he uses. GREAT TEACHER
I love Professor Brem, he is one of the best teachers ive had! (i had him i PSYCH24 last semester) He make you interested about what ur learning. He is clear about what he wants you to learn and if you do what he asks of you, you cant fail his class. Portfolios are crucial for his classes, so make sure you start early on those! GREAT TEACHER
GREAT TEACHER! If you need PSYCH 24 or POSCI make sure to take him! I love professor Brem! Do what he asks of you and you cant fail! You will learn a lot even if it is not a subject of interest! Portfolios are crucial, so make sure u start those on time! DEFINITELY TAKE HIS CLASS
Brem is the best professor i had so far, he is very clear on what he teaches, he's also very open to questions and comments that student have and he never makes you feel stupid about it. His lectures are very entertaining and i actually look forward to his class. all you really have to do is keep up with his portfolio, attend class,an essay
great class. I had no interest and now i want to run for PREZ! lol jk, but you get the point. Keep up with the portfolio and ull be fine. He is extremely helpful, but it is truly up to you to keep up and get an A. Love this class, its the highlight of my Tuesdays and Thursdays. GOOOO BREM!
Really Great Professor...You take about 3 exams, one 1-2 page paper on a public meeting, and a portfolio project in which you work on throughout the whole semester which includes an annotation on a article, re-written notes that you took in class, and a questionnaire that you fill out every week..so you would be doing around 12-15 of these.Easy A!!
Inspiring professor, he used to be a psychotherapist and incorporates in into the lecture. Awesome lecturer. Be sure to read the book as you will need it for the test.
he is THE G8888st teacher eva!i always thought politics is boring, but after taking this class i've learned a lot.every single of his lecture has made me think of something inspiring! go take his class! thank you professor Brem! O_O
Prof Brem is a good teacher, he has immense amount of knowledge on the subject matter and is willing to discuss so much. There is a lot of work so make sure to stay on track, don?t leave it to the last minute. His lectures can be confusing since he?s all over the place, but overall he has shown polsci in a new way to me.
This teacher give very interesting lectures. He throws in current knowledge with old. He's kinda funny too. He tells jokes and will make a loud noise if people are falling asleep. As for the workload, its average. He collects it all at once so do it in stages. He's a great teacher. He will make you interested in politics.
I am still a newbie in this class, but after week two, I feel pumped up and ready to digest ALL that this course entails. Mr. Brem brings out the logically and realistic reasoning behind 'politics'. The way the course is approached stirs up the excitement and interest needed in a class as such. I look forward to an exceptional semester!
If you have the chance to take a class with Prof. Brem, TAKE IT. The lectures are interesting and often evolve into discussions so interesting you forget it's time to go. He really cares about the students and the subject matter, and will spend the time to help you understand. Don't try to B.S. him! You will get so much out of this class.
This is the most inspiring teacher imaginable at a junior college. He makes every lecture interesting and unique and is always more than happy to be available to the students for extra help if needed. He shines at what he does and his passion for what he is teaching is unmistakable. If you have the chance to take him do it! You will learn a lot/
I had Brem for abnormal psych. Even if I missed my other classes, I very rarely ever missed his. This man is smart and passionate about what he teaches. He's quirky, animated and funny. That said, you do have to work for your grade in his class. Attendance is very important & exam questions were taken from textbook AND lectures.
GREAT teacher. I learned so much from him. Before, I was not interested in polictical at all. After taking this class, it makes me think deeper into every situation. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Very easy, just have to do what he wants and you'll get an A.
I took his posci 1A class and it was one of the best classes i've taken at COA thus far. Brem is super sarcastic and I love the fact that he can argue a point from any side. He likes people who contribute to the discussion and make sure you work on your portfolio daily!!! if you don't be ready to stress out bcuz the portfolio is worth 100pts.
He is a character. Classes are pretty fun, if you're lazy you can still pass. Very helpful. Make sure you keep your notes in good shape for the portfolio. Use the reader he hands out, very informative on ideology. Good overall professor.
Mr. Brem changed the way I look at things, he is an amazing teacher and his classes are fun: debates and talks about current events, he is always there for his students.
Study guide is very helpful. If you study the study guide, you will easily get an A. He tends to reiterate himself A LOT! And espouses other's philosophies and quotes as if they were his own. If you read the news, you won't take away much. Wasn't the "amazing" teacher I expected from reading other reviews.
Professor Brem suprisingly made the class really fun. I had him over the summer and although the classes were 2 hours long, Brem kept them interesting. He related the topics in class to the outside world and joked around to make the class more fun, yet easy to follow. His tests were only hard if you didn't study. But overall, he was a fun class.
One of the very few GREAT professors in the Peralta District. You will learn, and be prepared for transfer. I never miss a class. Dynamic lectures, which open your eyes to the world. Makes the subject fascinating. Portofolio project needs to be worked on weekly, and 1 paper. A few tests directly from study guide & lectures. You will learn!
HE'S AMAZING! Dont ever doubt for a second whether or not to take his class. you won't regret it!
his good
his class sessions were great but the work he had us doing had very little to do with what we were discussing in class we often wrote papers on things we had yet to discuss in class
He is a nice guy but honestly not much of a teacher, he is totally unorganized and not ready for the class. His lesson usually consists of him talking beginning with a subject then spiraling off into space. And if you're someone who likes to take notes in class, it's impossible! Scribbles on the board and rambling is hard material to take notes on.
Brem makes you think in ways you never thought you could. He takes simple ideas and plays with them in crazy ways and then just as you thought it did not make sense, he connects it to your life and then you understand politics better too. Great teacher and you know he cares about you.
I enjoyed his class and found his lectures interesting. His exams are very easy, and he is generous with grading, as long as you follow his instructions. The only thing is that he assigns a lot of work for a 3-unit course. It is not difficult work, but is time consuming.
The ways in which this class helped me develop as a person were intense. Every assignment helped me understand both t subject and myself so well, I want to change my major. Brem is intense and makes you think he's teaching just to you!
The Brem is so cool! If you take political theory (or any of the courses he teaches) from anyone else yer whacked! He is so incredibly helpful and apllies everything to the world I live in! What others say bout him bein helpful to you in yer own life is true! I am thinking of changing majors because of Brem.
Ignored following own syllabus. Rambling lectures. Taking coherent notes near impossible. Even though a psychologist does not appear to know how to engage students with neuro-cognitive differences. Class more philosophical than practical application. Talks too much about his personal problems. Class should be Sociology 4, not Political Theory 4.
Out of the 13 professors I've had throughout my scholastic career, Dr. Brem is by far the best. The best in the sense that he is knowledgeable, passionate, and skilled. Truly engaged and expanded my critical thinking skills.
He is a great teacher. He is a bit goofy in class (bumped into objects and almost tripped in class once)he grades fairly & looks a bit like family guy but mr.brem is no dummy he knows politics and will be happy to answer and questions and engage in conversation. i recommend everyone to take his class. he made politics an intriguing subject.
One of the very few, and i mean few professors who teaches at the college level. Class discussions and assignments helped me learn the concepts of how personality is formed... it helped me know me better and helped me clarify my major better and showed me how psychology and understanding personality tied into other subjects I am studying.
Brem is an incredible professor, easily one of the best at Peralta. He wants you to challenge yourself and to leave the class knowing more about yourself relative to the subject matter at hand than when you came in, but that takes work! This class changed my perspective on how I relate to politics. He is very helpful. Well worth your time!
This class was awesome. I took it while also taking Amir Sabzevary's philosophy 2, social and political philosophy, class and the two paralleled seamlessly. Don't miss out on one of the few great professor's both in college and in life.
Brem is fantastic! This is a professor who believes in drawing from life experience and from multiple disiplines to teach - which led me to a deeper and more nuanced understanding of the subjects. I changed my major to PoliSci because of him! He does demand a lot of work, but it pushes you to be a better student. You must take his classes!
Brem has a lose structure to his course, but it is one that prepares you to think in the real world. He challenges you, but never beyond the capacity that a college level student should be at. One of the best professors at College of Alameda.
As just a introductory class it was good. He introduced different political viewpoints how they coincide with others and what their roll or effect is in our society. If you are the type of student who expects the teacher to manically do all the work for you Brem is not for you. The more you engage him the more you learn. He knows stuff just ask.
He was really interesting, I wasn't even expecting anything like what he taught us. It was so incredible. Work load is fairly easy, you just have to know the method to the madness.
Worst instructor I ever had. Avoid.
If you want is someone who is crazy with ideas that makes you think beyond what you expect and who pushes you at the transfer level and beyond; Brem's your guy. If you need help he'll clarify whatever you ask him to - if you're willing to do what he asks you get a lot; as much as YOU give YOU get. He shapes class on what the students ask.
Robert Brem was a wonderful professor! He really made you think and re-evaluate your life. I would definitely take him again. His tests were not really fair but if you show up everyday and do your portfolio you are pretty much guaranteed an A!
Easy test study guides for book; your notes are study guide for lecture test questions; great test curve. If you know how to write APA you're good; if not, you'll struggle. If you do your portfolio every week, you're OK; if you,re not good at discipline, you're gonna have a hard time. If you need structure, it's hard; if not, you're good.
Brem is a wonderful teacher, he really strives to teach above and beyond. The course is easy if you pay attention and read between the lines. DO NOT WAIT last minute to do the portfolio. If you are looking for an enrichment course that you can really take something from, i suggest Brem!
He does not follow the syllabus. He does not teach from the text. His lectures are not structural. But he is well acknowledged professor.I found out that after I ransfer to univ that University professors covers similar lectures and concepts with him.
Lets just say i changed my major to political science & taken two more of his classes. Hes an amazing teacher who gets you to truly "think about the things youre thinking about"
His lectures are great. He does not have a technical standpoint, so if you are a practical individual you need to turn away. Innovation and creative minds will only understand the viewpoints of Abnormal Psychology. Brem helps pinpoint the major issues of abnormal disorders. You will not go home without learning anything.
His class is super easy. When I took him in Spring 2013 he had it to wear you could fail all the exams as long as you did his binder. I failed both exams with a 50% (because it was on the book which he never uses except for the tests) and did the binder and received an A. He is a very interesting professor. Never a dull moment.
I took him for Psych 3 and Poli Sci 4. He doesn't teach in a standard fashion, and is unlike any other teacher that I've had. If you are able to learn in an abstract way and environment then you will be fine. Classes were always very interesting, and there were always great discussions. He is an awesome teacher and very funny, and I learned a lot
Brem is super enthusiastic and committed to helping students become critical thinkers and engaged citizens. His class is very free form, so if you like a very structured experience, you may struggle (I did at first.) DO NOT PUT OFF DOING THE PORTFOLIO. The tests are mostly from lecture notes and the textbook study guides are crucial. Fun class!
He's a great professor. Love how he actually "knock" some sense into your head during the lecture. Besides, he actually very inspiring. Will definitely take his class again. Take his class and you will be addicted.
Introduction was great! But..2nd day of class comes...I had no idea what he was talking about. He kept talking and talking. His lectures were everywhere!!! I couldn't follow. Plus he has us reading a whole bunch of stuff that isn't clear. Syllabus was a WHOLE HUGE packet.
At the 1st day of class, he presented a great introduction. Then after that, yeah. NO. His lectures jumped to another topic to the next. Some of the things he say seems harsh and he apologizes but he's much of a psychologist than a teacher. Attendance is extra credit and keep up with weekly homework!
A rare teacher who cares about making study relevant to life. He is unconventional and interdisciplinary; makes you think in multiple subjects: real college class. Opportunities for extra credit(perfect attendance). Journal weekly applying what you learn to yourself as a citizen and person. and to ask clarifying questions he answers in class.
Political Theory, Stress Management, and now Comparative Government. Only have positive things to say about him, best at COA!. In stress management (take it!) learned incredible stuff there - and it was easy to use it all even in political theory (Great!!!!) and in comparative Govt (wonderful!). Prepares you for the University; easily. :-)
You Must take this guy!!!!!! Great. Work on your portfolio every week though. and dont forget about the extra credit.
A great teacher of theory. Using practical modern associations that are relevant and advance the learning process.
Do not take political theory (or personality theory) from anyone else !!! Incredible experience will make so much clear about the world and your life.... he tells you like it is and he does not waste time on useless stuff; makes it all relate to you life. Do the work consistently and you'll pass; put ot off and you won't.
Amazing communicator. You can listen to him the whole day. He know his stuff; hands down, great teacher!!!!
He's the most real PoSci you'll ever take. Licensed therapist, he'll say many things that might go off track from the course, still it will make so much sense. Strong opinions on many things but he'll ALWAYS say why. Popular quotes, "Always think about the things you think about" otherwise you're stupid. Weekly assignments, 2-4 writeups.
Teaching style is more like a psychotherapy session for the students. If you are interested in hearing your peers' life issues and the professor labeling you and your peers, then this class is for you. Also, very unorganized when it comes to due dates. Communication is poor, will not respond to e-mails, and explains assignments poorly.
Easily the most helpful professor I have had at COA. I felt he genuinely cared about me and me being able to learn what I needed to learn. And he IS a psychotherapist! LOL He uses "our personal stories" to teach material through our questions asking us to think about the things we think about :-) to make more sense of it all.
Take his class, it's worth it. He is teaching how to be a CRITICAL THINKER , and how to be more effective in the world. It's about psychology and philosophy as much as political science. He makes you a promise that you will grow from his class, and you will, if you allow your beliefs to be challenged. Take him for psych too. :)
Robert is an amazing teacher! I took him for POSC001, and I learned alot about myself as well as politically. He makes you think in a way of which you analyze every little decision you make. I definitely recommend him to everyone!
Brem is officially one of my favorite teachers. The lectures will make you think twice about every choice you make, how it effects not only you but the world. His course is philosophy and political science rolled into a mind blowing course. Brem is hilarious, down to earth, and very intelligent. Be prepared to work hard on your portfolio!!
I took Mr. Brem's online course and it was amazing. His class is divided into units. You finish usually 3 chapters worth of reading in 2-3 weeks. If you finish early by a week you get extra credit. He is a grader with clear criteria. There is a course reader that you need for the forum posts as well. Quizzes based off of the reading
AVOID HIS ONLINE CLASSES, don't listen to the people below me. TOO MUCH READING & TOO MUCH WORK. 1st week, lesson unit & 2-3 quizzes. 2nd week, reading notes (3 chapters 100+ pages, 2 articles 50-150 pages), respond paper & forum post. 3rd week, essay & journal (500+ words each), forum reply. I READ MORE IN THIS CLASS THAN HISTORY CLASSES.
Truly a quality college course and instructor. Challenges you to think and learn and apply what you learn to your life. You have to do your part. He grades fair; if you do your work it is worth it and you'll do well. If you don't stay caught up he can't grade what you don't do. Well worth the effort. Very inspiring
While this class was amazingly detail specific and organized very thoroughly, it was hard asf! DO NOT take this class if you know you'll be doing heavy reading for other classes. You will have to turn in pages of notes on each chapter, video posted and lecture given.. so get ready to type your fingers to the bone. Tests each unit... good luck
This class wasn't one of my favorites but hey it's mandatory and since it's mandatory Prof Brem is the best prof to take for this class. You will pass the course if you participate, do your reading and prepare for your quizzes.
All of Brem's classes are deep and require work. That said he is an engaging teacher and adjusts his courses to the student's interests and needs. POSCI32 is designed for student leaders and should be scheduled more often.
Online summer course required: Writing, 5,000-8,000 words a week, Reading, 250-400pgs a week, spent bout 15hrs per week on assignments. Easy grader, follow the rubric, meet minimum requirements and you will pass.
Simple class premise, lots of reading and writing. Excessively easy grader, however he gives little to no feedback on ideas written about which made me feel disconnected. Highly recommend overall if you can handle heavy reading and writing and are prone to philosophical ideas.
He's VERY different! In a good way. He took over class from instructor who went on leave; and after adjusting to differences in style: he's great! He found free textbooks! He is flexible and responds to concerns and redesigned course to meet our needs and fit his material; gives a lots of good information and answers all questions..
Took the online Posci1 class and it was a lot of reading and writing, but it was a great class. The textbook was provided as a PDF so that was great, you could print it out or not, I opted to print it out and make notes because thats how I work. The class itself is great, I learned so much. I think everyone should take this course. Hard, but great.
All readings are provided at no cost! I've had him for both lecture (POSCI-2 Comparative) and Online. He is completely amazing in person! Online is clear and fair! If you do the work with good faith and you do come to class(!) and don't BS; you'll do well. He gives so much more than you expected in person; ties it all into your life and beyond.
Nice guy! Easy grader. Intersession course is a fair bit of writing, but nothing unmanageable. The assignments follow the same format for each unit. You get used to it quickly. Just follow the instructions. Don't skip anything. It's not worth it. Took this class with multiple intersession courses and part time job, and it was fine. You'll learn.
Definitely a lot of reading/writing for an intersession course, but he'll give you 100% as long as you follow criteria and turn something in. Wasn't a fan of his "textbook," felt more like lecture notes and was hard to follow at first, but the other supplemental readings were great. Be prepared to write 25k words in 3 weeks for intersession.
Took online polisci 1 and as many have mentioned, theres a lot of reading. However, its not as bad as it seems because for me at least the reading was quite interesting. Also, the writing assignments were either opinions or summary so its nothing too specific. Id like to add however theres not gonna be much feedback so good luck.
Brem is very wise and knoweledgable in this subject. Some of the things he says can be controversal and upsetting to some. It's a pretty easy class if you stay ontop of your work. Doesn't offer the best support but it's a pretty easy class either way. Heavily lecture based and a lot of psych/sociology mixed into the basics of American politics
Information isnt current, and lecture is all over the place. Theres a lot of reading and writing, and mainly self guided.
Amazing lectures and tons of homework (3-6 hours each week). Accessible outside of class and accepts late work. Attendace is mandatory, will drop people who don't attend (and homework is impossible w/o) Only one, small group project. Overall, easy if you do not fall behind in work, but it is very easy for that to happen. Textbook is mandatory.
In this class you will have a decent work load. This is good as it will prepare you for your graduate classes. The professor is amazing and understanding. I always looked forward to this class and the lectures. He makes the lectures and material easy to understand as he makes it relatable. I enjoyed his class so much and would take again.
Brem is a wild guy. He's got lots of stories, and a flair for drama. He can be emphatic, but if you question him, or push for more information, he's delighted. He understands nuance. Like therapy, with his class what you get out of it will match what you put into it. He's created a clear structure. It's up to you to push yourself!
I took this class in intersession 2020, fully online (self-guided), 18 days to do a full semester (150 hours). So you have to treat it like a full time job! Prof Brem has organized the course extremely well, so it's super easy to know what you have to do and when. You'll learn sooo much, and what you learn really matters in the real world!
Professor Brem is a top notch instructor. There is a ton of reading and even more writing. A ton of very format-oriented essays due every class session. It was difficult to get the hang of the different formats he wanted for each different assignment. For example, 3 essays due/class. One would be 600 +words , one would be 300+, one would be 150+.
Just an FYI, he is a teacher about your homework. TBH he was one of the only teachers that were available to complete letters of recommendation. In other instances, you would not believe the amount of work he is ready to parse. Therefore, I do not recommend job+17 credits+ sports. Any other lingo in there is just an addition to your personal.
Professor Brem was supportive, encouraging, and communicative. Assignments were graded in a timely fashion. The syllabus and expectations were clear. He sent reminder emails that helped me stay on track with the homework and tests. Excellent instructor all around.
Robert is a great guy. The class is easy as long as you do the work. He can be disorganized when it comes to his lectures, but overall, I would take him again. He is willing to help anyway he can.
Great professor. There is a lot of reading and work (compared to my other classes) but everything is very interesting. Great class if you actually want to learn about political science.
Torn on Prof Brem. Nice guy. You will not learn from his lectures but they are certainly not boring. Talks a lot about his pseudoscientific beliefs. He does engage the class and it's appreciated, but his spiritual monologues can be obnoxious. The assignments are easy; he grades on effort. He loves structure and you have to follow a specific format.
There's a lot of homework, but he's always willing to work with you to make sure that you have every available chance to pass the class. He comes from a place of honestly wanting to teach and educate, which is sadly rare among professors in GE lecture classes. Would definitely recommend
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR. Took his Psych 34, stress mgmt class, it was very inspiring. A brilliant Professor; knows psychology inside & out. Do the work, read the literature & you'll excel in any of his classes. Very structured, no exams/quizzes. Stay current & you'll do fine. If you can take his stress management class do it! It is truly life changing!
Professor Brem is an amazing teacher that cares about his students. He's very passionate about his lectures and wants the best for his students. The work he gives is not hard, it's just a lot of writing.
Professor Brem has had an immeasurable impact on me. His raw honesty and tenacity as an educator have inspired me to continue down the path of psychology as a career. You absolutely will not regret taking his class. You'll not only grow as a student but as a whole person. Very few professors can match his enthusiasm. Do yourself a favor & sign up!
His class was homework-heavy and paper-heavy. 3500 words of written words plus heavy reading a week. He often said that he understands what students are going through and is helpful but is not helpful AT ALL. I don’t recommend.
Professor Brem is very understanding and accommodating about assignments. Generous office hours and assignment grace periods are frequently given. Lectures are recorded. Assignments and discussions are mostly based on the free course readers and modules, and students have the flexibility to choose the topics to write about for assignments!
He's very passionate and you'll learn but don't expect its to be easy. LOTS of writing - multiple papers every week, with minimal feedback (which I really don't do well with). Do the work and you'll do well, but be ready to read and write a lot.
Last summer, I took POSCI 1 with professor Brem. He provided good hints and time to finish the work. I started the readings early to finish the assignments; do not wait on the final essay. Keep up with the materials provided and the class is doable. I appreciated his hints and instructions. I will take classes with him again, if my schedule allows.
Prof. Brem is a kind sweet soul. Very very smart guy. He's on to something about theses politicians! I enjoyed the infromation obtained from his videos and the reading book. AMAAAAZING! Highly rec this class! He also helped write the book given for instruction. Great guy! Wow!!!
Robert is such an inspiration. He taught me so much about myself in personality theory. I love how the class has an agenda but also abstract at the same time. His class is very structured and organized. He is very caring and kind to his students. He is also very understanding. He is very knowledgeable.
I recommend this class.
If you're taking him for an intersession its basically 28 Essays in 18 days.
This was the worst professor in my entire undergraduate career. 95% of what he talks about in lecture is improvised life advice and personal opinions relating nothing to the material. He assigns his own book for reading too so there is no escape. He is assignment heavy but an easy grader up until the final essay, which is suddenly graduate level.
Incredibly intriguing! All writing is used to help write final paper! He's a psychotherapist using cutting edge ideas from therapy to help learn personality theory by applying it to understanding yourself. Grading is based on following the structure, but free to write about yourself. THAT is the point! Do that, and you pass! And learn really lot!
Con: 25 days long(fast-paced/time consuming). Each assignment requires A LOT of reading and writing (500+ words for 3 writing assignments, 250+ for discussion, 1400+ for reading notes) due within a span of 3 days between each unit. Pro: Learn a lot about myself, different worldviews, history of politics Advice: READ THE SYLLABUS AND START AHEAD
It was a pleasure having Mr. Brem this summer semester. Very enlightening course and provides his own written textbook with great knowledge to apply to further studies. This course prepares you for upper division work including grad school. A wonderful Professor that is helpful in consultation and especially understanding in academic achievement.
Professor Brem was one of my favorite teachers I have taken at any Peralta college. He warned us that intersession would be a lot of work and it was, but it was manageable if you planned ahead. He is a very kind, empathetic teacher who really wants his students to get the most possible out of his class. I would absolutely take more of his classes!
If you want to read 50-100+ pages a week on top of five different confusing formatting assignments he assigns every week, then sign up. For each assignment each week you'll need to write 500-1000+ words on it and it is honestly exhausting on top of other classes you may have. I do not recommend it.
Professor Brem brings a unique approach to personality theory, using his background in therapy to help students understand themselves. While the class is structured, he allows for free self-reflection in writing assignments. unstuck study was a helpful study aid alongside the textbook.
I almost dropped this class because the textbook written by him was near impossible to understand. This isn't a class that simply describes how government works but instead you hear his own opinions on it too. There was a lot of reading for each module. There is one 1400 word assignment and about three 500 word assignments for each module.
I love Robert he is one best professors I have had. As for the class if you do the work to the best of you ability you will most likely get 100%. As he says " it is very hard to flunk a Brem class".
Dr. Brem (rather, "Robert", as he prefers to be called) is an incredible professor in that he really wants you to succeed in his class. As said by others, there is a lot of reading/writing in this class. However, he is not a tough grader. As long as you follow the instructions for the writing assignments, you'll get an A. Must attend lectures!
I took Robert Brem's course as an 8 week course. It very well might have been the most writing I have ever done in a condensed period of time but the material was deeply engaging albeit very difficult. Great professor who cares about what he is teaching and would absolutely recommend his course.
I would say, this class is extremely workload. You would have to read/watch the assigned stuff and integrate it into the reading notes assignment for one week and then the week after, there's like 4 other papers and repeat. It's easy to pass as long as you write over the minimum word count and complete every assignment.
quiet nice ,easy score
