Pretty kick ass teacher. Tests are not too difficult but they usually have a couple of tricky questions on them. If you take good notes then you don't really need to read much less buy the book. One paper that is pretty easy if you follow the guideline
cool guy, easy to get a good grade in his class
Cool ass guy. Very fair and down to earth. He shows that he wants his students to do well. Take good notes and the class is a breeze.
SO cool. One of my favorite professors. Don't miss class or you'll for sure not do well on his exams. So chill. So down to earth. Take him!
Extremely laid back. Take good notes and you'll do well! Excellent professor. I highly recommend him for History!

Love love love. Very cool guy. Take notes and you'll make A's. He makes class fun to go to.

Mr. Brennan was awesome...the only History class I ever actually understood & enjoyed going to.
Awesome teacher! Go to class and take very good notes. His test come straight from his notes, I never even opened my book and still made an A. I actually understand and follow his lectures. This class is NOT an easy A, but if you study, take notes, and go to class you will do well.
This class was awesome. Totally not looking forward to history, but he made the class very interesting. Good note taking is VITAL!!! The tests come straight from the notes and can be pretty difficult. But if your notes are good, and you come to class, you should make A's
we never used a textbook...but he knows his history to the point of not needing one...go to class and take good notes though...he can make you love history regardless of how you feel about it going into his class
One of the best teachers there is! He shares my cynical outlook on history and life, and I found it very easy to get along with him. I would not recommend him for people who look at the world through rose-colored glasses. The experience can be eye-opening. If you keep up with what's going on in the world, definately take his classes.
ive had him 2 times..first..if you come to every class during the semester he grades you on a 10 point scale, not 7!! Which is completely awesome..and when i say come to class, all you have to do is put one foot in the door- acknowledge him, and leave....Tests Are DIRECTLY from things he emphasises when he lectures--u take good notes, you make A+!!
Best history teacher I've had. Take notes, study 2-3 hours for each test, attend every class. You will get an A. His lectures are very interesting.
Did not like the teacher at all! Advice drop his class
He was a very nice teacher. Interesting, yes. I have had worse history teachers. I would not have minded this class if we didn't have to write some god awful long boring paper. Overall if you study for the tests you should do well.
He is an easy teacher all you have to do is pay attention during class and study for his test and you will get a good grade. He knows is material.
Brennan has an excellent sense of humor. Just take notes and attend class to get decent grades on his tests. Instead of the 10 page paper opt for the VFW interview assignment.
He was a great teacher. I already had a love of history but he just increased it ten fold. I'm now a history major and preparing to start working on my Masters and after that my doctorate. Take his class and you won't regret it.
I love his class! As long as you come to class and take notes you are fine. He makes history come alive by using the class as examples. He tells the background stories so you understand why things happen and why we have traditions now. I will take his class ONLY for history at this school!
if he had more classes to take I would be in all of them
I took this course online. I think I would have done better if I had Mr. Brennan in person. I hope to take another of his classes before I leave CFCC. The class was fast-paced and covered 2 chapters per test. I enjoyed the material though.
I had him for Western Civ. I dreaded taking history classes. He made it so interesting. He talked about everything as if it were going on today. I loved it and never got sleepy! Highly recommend him!
Brennan is HILARIOUS. he turns american history into a story. as long as you pay attention, youll do good. i highly recommend him!
Where's the chili pepper!? Ridiculous
Greatest teacher at CFCC, hands down.
I wasn't happy to have to take a history class but Mr. Brennan made the class fun. He is a great teacher and his sense of humor is fantastic. I actually looked forward to going to this class. The tests aren't too hard as long as you take good notes in class and study.
Awesome teacher, great class. I didn't care about history at all before this class, now I get excited anytime someone mentions Ancient Rome.
awesome story teller. everything makes sense. like as if im watching a movie. its great.
He's so dreamy
Took his on-line class- all tests are straight from the text. We had to write about 5 papers, which were all pretty interesting, but plenty of time to do them- all assignments could be done at your own pace, no actual due dates, just in before the end of the semester. No weekly discussion boards either!
Awesome guy. His lecture style is really note-friendly but also interesting. He tries to keep the class involved and is really funny. Tests are easy since his study guides and review sessions pretty much cover everything. Speak up in class. He likes it a lot. Unless you're an idiot.
If you don't talk in this class he will hate you and fail you. The end.
Awesome teacher! I had so much fun in his class. Whether you are into history or not you will definetly leave his class loving it!
Probably one of the coolest guys I ever met. he makes you really enjoy the material. I tell everyone to try out his classes!
Took on-line mini-session and did great. He did not have due dates for assignments so you can work at your own pace. I really enjoyed this class.
My favorite teacher ever. His lectures are EXTREMELY interesting, and you can tell he loves the subject. My only disappointment in the class is that I'm very shy, and he places a lot of importance onthe discussion. He's so abrasive though that I'm afraid to speak up! And when I want to talk, I feel like I'm bugging him. Still love coming though.
Awesome teacher, tried to study for another class during his lecture one time and did the exact opposite..very interesting TAKE BRENNAN!
Mr. Brennan is one of the best professors at CFCC. Many professors make history as dry as a dirt sandwich but not Mr. Brennan--he is an excellent professor that makes history come alive with passion and humor. If a history class is a prerequisite for your major, register for a class with Mr. Brennan. You won't be disappointed.
Mr. Brennan as an online professor is awful. He is not responsive, unorganized, and lazy (none of the material was his own he went straight from the text with ever quiz).
extemely cocky but has every right to be. Brennan is laid back and relaxed
I had bob for american history and as long as you take notes from his lecture and study them and don't miss too many days there is NO reason why you can't pass his class with a decent grades!
Mr. Bob is a great History instructure. Keeps the class entertaining! He wants students to think that he is a hard teacher that likes to fail them, but if you come to class, pay attention, take notes, and don't annoy him, you'll have no trouble passing his class. Plus for his class you don't need the book! Just write down what he says.
The BEST teacher I have ever had. History is not my favorite subject but Mr. Brennan made this class the most fun and interesting of any of my classes. If you show that you care about the class and answer questions when he asks them, he will make it SO much easier and more fun. By far the coolest teacher I have ever encountered.
Mr. B is an awesome teacher. He gives you every opportunity to make an A in his class. He taught me a lot!
Took the class online, and loved how it was totally self-paced! Bunch of tests, 1 per chapter, but just read thoroughly and the tests are cake. 4 essays, but really easy as well. Very easy A if you try at all.
Great lectures. Rewards for attendance. Excellent mid-term options and extra credit available. Zero use of the text needed. Multiple choice exams can be tricky.
Took this as an online mini session. The course is self paced. Quizes are multiple choice and came from the study guide site listed in the book. He also responds quickly to any emails and addresses any concerns
Took his class online and as long as you keep up with the assignments on Blackboard, very easy A. He lectured one of my other classes and he is very personable and friendly, made me with I had taken this class in person.
I really enjoyed taking this class. It is at your own pace and the quizzes aren't difficult. I recommend this class if you want an easy A.
I would recommend Mr. Brennan for individuals who do well with pacing themselves. His online class consists of 19 multiple choice exams, and all of the exams' information can be found at the book's online study site.
Mr. Brennan is extremely entertaining and has a sharp, dry sense of humor. You don't need the book, take notes during his awesome lectures - he'll tell you when you need to remember a date, interact (if you're shy or lazy, don't take him,)& sit back &enjoy the most fun History class ever! Wish I could afford to take ALL his classes!
You do not need the book for this class, which is a big plus! I put the tag, "Skip class, you won't pass," because EVERYTHING he goes over in lecture is going to show up on the test. He gives a study guide for each test online and it is your job to fill it out. If you attend class, write down everything he says, and particpate, it's an easy A.
I took the online version of this class which is essentially just 21 tests. That's it, no homework, no quizzes. It's entirely self-taught. Emailed the Professor multiple times and never heard back from him. Finally just went to his office and he was polite and happy to help. The tests come from a packet which is online so studying is easy.
Cool teacher, very dry and sarcastic sense of humor. Half the class we watched movies and then wrote essays, the other half he lectured and we took notes for our test. I would say definitely show up to class because if you miss the lecture you won't do well on the tests. The textbook was not necessary at all.
Mr. Brennan is one of the best teachers I've had at Cape Fear. I took him twice just for fun. His lectures are fascinating and he's a great storyteller. He doesn't put up with any crap, though. Be in class, take notes on his lectures, memorize the important dates that he writes on the board. Pay attention and everything should go smoothly.
Took this for summer mini session. Could be taken with other classes easily. If you read the chapters the tests are cake. For a mini session you'll read about 2 chapters, which are about 40-50 pages each, a week and have a test for each chapter. If you don't have a true interest in history the class will be better taken on campus.
This class was a summer mini session. The tests are pretty easy and straight from the book. There's about 100 pages a week to read and then 1-3 quizzes per chapter. When I encountered issues Mr. Brennan was quick to respond. Unless you have a true interest in History the reading can get old real quick. Probably better at school.
TAKE HIS132 ONLINE WITH HIM! Lets you do all of the assignments, which are just multiple choice and matching quizzes, at your own pace. No due dates, just get it done sometime in the semester. If you get stuck on a question, it's very easy to figure it out (HINT: Every answer is somewhere online or written word for word in your textbook). SO EASY.
Phenomenal professor. Classes feel like story time instead of lectures. Write down the words he puts on the board so you know what they are, and you'll be fine. Was genuinely excited to show up to class.
Always made me laugh!
Took the class online. He made this class very convenient for working adults. I am a working parent and some online classes require too much and aren't aimed towards the working adult when they should be. Mr. Brennan always replied to emails and I would definitely take another class of his.
He is seriously so hilarious and cares about his students. I love him and would take his class again no doubt. A+ for him :)
I've taken three online history courses with Brennan and they've all been great. They are a on your own pace course which is convenient when you have other courses that are work heavy. HIS132 consists of two quizzes per chapter, a map quiz for a few, and seven (one paragraph) discussion boards.
Took HIS132 online. Fairly straight forward. More than enough time on tests and quizzes. Discussion boards straight forward. Great online class
If you show up and participate in class discussion you will do well. He likes people who ask questions and contribute to class conversation.
Professor Brennan was an excellent online instructor. This course is very organized, which is key for an online course. If you do the work and turn it in on time, this is a great course.
He is literally the best teacher I have had at Cape Fear, with respect to the other teachers I had, its really a great school and I liked them too, however, part of why I liked him so much is he makes his lectures and his class so interesting. One day (halloween) he dressed up as a cockroach because he said "hey it gets your attention"
Mr. Brennan is one of the best instructors I have been taught by, his lectures are so engaging that I occasionally forgot to take notes because I was so entertained. Class attendance is essentially mandatory, he won't fail you if you miss class but all the tests are based on what he says in his lectures. Know he takes a while to grade assignments.
Mr. Brennan was the best history instructor I have ever had. He really gets into lectures (his lectures are all verbal with no slides so be prepared to take good notes). This is the first time I enjoyed a history class; I learned a lot. He is really easy going with tests, if you ask him for it to be open note he will usually say yes.
I have never used rate my professor to write a negative review, until now. I took his class online, so your experience in person may be different. For a class I was so excited to take, I am extremely dissatisfied.
I wish I took his class in person! When emailing and asking questions, he was always really kind. He also provided great feedback on the assignments. His question prompts on the assignments are also really good and help you grasp the material more. Being a history enjoyer, this definitely made the class even better. I definitely recommend him
young ladies please don't take his class. creepy and has no boundaries with students, plz take my advice. dr kimberly sherman is the much better option.
This class was organized very well. You are provided with many materials that will help you succeed in the course.
Brennan was a fantastic professor. Quickly after the first month, our class became very close and Brennan was very open and friendly with us. He is comfortable being flexible and would repeat anything. You can work ahead on the coursework and he was kind about late work. I looked forward to his class everyday.
he was a great teacher. i really enjoyed taking his class, very understanding and willing to help you if you actually put in the effort. he makes sure youre prepared for the tests and quizzes also. it was a really great first semester class to take.
Loves to joke, have side conversation. Really just important you pay attention and take notes.
Straightforward online class consisting of 2 quizzes and one discussion each week. Timely grading and excellent feedback. I learned a lot even as a history buff. My only gripe is not being able to see the questions I got wrong on the quizzes. A few times I was shocked to have missed so many, Overall a well-organized, enjoyable class.
I took HIS 121 and 122 several years ago with him and he was one of best professors I've ever had at CFCC. His lectures were amazing and captivating. He was funny, chill, understanding, and gave you every opportunity to get an A+. Just show up to class, listen, and take notes. I highly recommend taking his classes in person. Man I miss his classes.
