Brilliant teacher. His classes are interesting and fun. You will learn a lot the easy way.
Brill is hilarious and unprecedented. His class is interesting, and he never fails to be polite--even when cracking on a student.
too cynical. cracks on students too much and can be offensive. great teacher though. he's a great conversationalist out of class if its just you and him and maybe one other person. can be majorly funny. shows videos relating to lesson which is great.
Brill is a great teacher...his cracks on students are funny, because the students usually deserve it. I like to see people shot down who try to prove to professor wrong, or just make stupid comments. I will surely take another of his classes.
This was one of the most enlightening classes I have taken. He always held my attention and opened my eyes to a new way of thinking. Always answers questions and is a great speaker. I'd take any class of his!
All bark and no bite. A good professor. It takes a while to warm to his personality, but he's a good teacher. Really easy tests.
Although not a bad teacher when it comes to the actual subject matter,he can be quite pompous and makes offensive comments about race and religion. He shoots down students too much to be productive.
This teacher is very cynical and sarcastic..but he is a great teacher..he tought me a diffrent way to look at art, i learned alot from him, if you pay attention in class to everything he says you already have a B on the test. Take notes!!Excellent teacher
Brilliant teacher! Very interesting class! I would recommend him any day!
He'll crack on you if he thinks you're an idiot--otherwise you're safe. Extremely intelligent, introverted, but compassionate. Will definitely help you if he sees that you're really trying or in a tough spot. Highly recommended. Brill rocks.
He is one of the best.
great teacher. hard, but worth the effort. Very helpful out of class and will give you another chance if you really screw up on something. One of the smartest teachers Ive ever had, knew something about everything!
very boring, does give enough student activities, talks entirly too much, puts down students, love to put students on the spot and does have a good sence of humor and privacy when it comes to other students personal academic needs.
THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. he is awesome and his class is super fun. take him if you have the chance. hes smart, funny, and his class is easy if you go but you learn so much you dont want to miss a class.
good teacher, but very full of himself, and tends to put his students down. I know sometimes he made me feel kind of stupid for asking a question. Easy class though
brill is an excellent teacher. if you dont want him to crack on you just keep your mouth shut and let the man teach.shopw up for class bc he puts parts of his lectures on the tests. tests are cake and the 1500 word requirement is fullfilled through movies. hes not hard just take the class.
He is a great teacher. I found him to be stand-offish, but he's very sweet, and knows exactly what he's talking about. He just wants you to learn, and if you do your work you should do well. You will not get an A if you don't work very very hard. Really, he's great, if you're debating, TAKE HIS CLASS. I hear Dr. Buckner is horrible.
Best teacher ever. He is a jerk, but that's because he is there to teach and meet new interesting people--not be subject to your phone going off or you jittering around. He does have a bit of a problem making students feel comfortable, but it's just part of his charm, albeit strange. Highly recommended.
AWESOME!!!!I love his class he is GREAT....
Awesome teacher. Gives a lot of information for such short tests, but very into his work. He almost gets into character while he is teaching and interacts with his students well. Sort of picks favorites, but nothing too harsh.
Great proffessor, is really into his work, y take tons of notes, so be ready to write. he gets into character and does a great job of explaning the material
Great teacher, keeps you very interested in everyhting you do. Muliple choice test though they are somewhat challenging are worded easy.
He is an awesome teacher. He really inspires you to want to learn. He is knowledgeable on so many subjects. I highly recommend him!
Mr Brill is an excellent humanities teacher. Exams are directly from book material or lectures. In other words -- go to class, give him 50% of your attention, skim the book, and you'll get an A.
Don't miss a single class and get an A on every test. Has been all over the world and an extremely interesting teacher. Somewhat focuses on history more than humanities, so you'll be going over material that you've probably heard before. The only homework is watching movies that you'll be tested on.
He's really strange, but incredibly informative. He speaks his mind and actually knows what hes talking about. I would reccomend him.
Prof. Brill's class is great. It's pretty interesting and as long as you take notes and read the occassional chapter for a test you have an A. I would definetly recommend this class. ca
Very knowledgable, but extremely rude. Don't answer or ask any questions, even if you are correct he will make you feel like an idiot. He thinks too highly of himself and will laugh at you infront of class. Interesting lectures though.
Well your in college to learn. Take Brill and you will learn something I promise. best teacher I've had so far.
He is a well educated man, who has as much worldly knowledge, as he does acedemic knowledge. He does think very highly of himself, to the point of being obnoxious, but you can't help but laugh at him for it. Don't bother trying to agrue or outwit him, you won't win; He will laugh at you, and they whole class will laugh with him. But he is Good!
Very intellegent sense of humor. Don't try to out-witt him, it's totally useless and just makes the rest of the class laugh at you. I love him because he doesn't let smart-alic kids push him around. He is an excellent lecturer and is great at making the material stay with you. Great class.
Mr. Brill is by far the best teacher at SFCC. You will never be bored. He is what the college experience is about. He is also willing to help if you ever have a problem. I will be taking a third class with him in fall.
Very interesting teacher, but rude to students. I liked the class but would not take him again.
Tons of interesting facts with a vivid explanation!
Rude professor. Asking a question makes me feel like Im bothering him. Very unpleasent. Makes you feel stupid.
Jerk! He is a good teacher but he is a really condescending and very rude. He explains stuff very well right after ripping apart any student that tries to answer is ridiculously open-ended questions. He doesnt review for any tests or quizzes. If I could give any advice, either agree qith everything he says or stand your ground.
he is kinda a diva. thinks our whole generation is full of arrogance, which makes him seem arrongant. picks on students, and likes the ones who feed into his vanity. his lectures are somewhat irrelavant but kept me up to date on current events. i learned to laugh at him, which made the 50 min all that more amusing. the tests are basic.
He is a crazy ****
Great Teacher! Makes the Class interesting.. Class is not Hard. Its SIMPLE, If you fail his class your an idiot. Take notes, study before the tests, and your get an A or B.... SIMPLE
Mr. Brill is an interesting character. He can be an ass and ripe you a new one, but he's funny about it. As far as his tests goes take NOTES and read the frigging book. The class can be easy if you do your part.
rude teacher
I've taken Brill twice, will take him again in another semester. He is thought of as rude, and condesending towards students, but he isn't. He wants his students to either prove their point or admit they're wrong. Don't debate him, you will not win. But he will respect you all the more, for your willingness to try. Take him, he's great. Really
class is borng. must take good notes. minimal book usage. seems to think he is better than everyone else b/c he has traveled everywhere. puts students down. RUDE!!! tests are so-so...take GOOD notes. lecture class. rather boring at times.
I have take several of Mr.Brill's classes. He really knows what he is talking about and if you come to class and watch the videos he assigns you will do well. He can seem a bit pretentious but all in all he loves the subject he teaches.
this professor is a good, as long as you dont ask stupid questions.
Great Teacher. A lot of people mistake his sense of humor for rudeness, but he is just as willing to laugh at him self.
Worst teacher ever, he acts like his notes are of importance and pulls the test from the textbook. His lecture focus isn't guided at all by what we need to know, he just rants about whatever he pleases. He is knowledgeable, but not reasonable, with a poor teaching style. I wouldn't take Brill again, I think he means well, but he fails miserably.
Brillant man, really knows what he is talking about. Thinks too highly of himself and looks down on students.
Excellent teacher. I had no interest in Humanities before this class. It is inspiring to see a teacher who really enjoys teaching. I've learned a lot in his class and would definitely take him again. Highly recommend!!!
This professor is very arrogant, kind of scary, but he knows his stuff. He has a dry sense of humor, but once you get used to it, it's smooth sailing. His tests are straight from lecture so attendance is MANDATORY. If you want to learn, you will take him.
I LOVE MR. BRILL!!!!! So much fun. He really helps you understand the material and gives a really good sense of understanding with everything that is dicussed in class. His test are both on notes and book. He just likes to mix it up. Some tests might be just notes, just the book, or both. You just have to study. Over all super easy.
Great Professor. Very knowledgable and the class is fairly laid back as long as you pay attention. Nothing wrong with dry humor. He's not rude at all, unless you're rude yourself or thin-skinned. Don't text-message or eat cookies and you'll succeed at life.
I just finished my third class with Mr. Brill, and I loved it. He is an awesome person and a wonderful instructor. My two little girls loved going to Brill?s class with me, when they had to. I think that it was our mutual respect for each other, as adults, that made our friendly and jovial interaction possible. Brill is worth taking, trust me.
At first, you may be a little intimidated by his humor, but I promise you'll grow to love it. We would always have an off topic discussion at the beginning of every class to see what was going on in the world. HE KNOWS HIS STUFF! He is a great teacher! BUT DON'T TEXT IN HIS CLASS..ONE GIRL GOT IN TROUBLE EVERYDAY!HE WILL CALL YOU OUT..NO MERCY..HAH
Professor Brill is a brilliant teacher. If you ATTEND CLASS and take good notes during his lectures you will pass the class with ease. By attending class everyday and looking up the terms he gives before each test, the lowest test grade i got was an 85. His humor is fantastic just don't take it personally. I learned a lot and really enjoyed it.
I was going to major in Humanities until this guy. He's such a snob, he acts like he knows it all, while you know nothing. This man has "friends" (with no names) in every subject he talks about. I have no idea how many times this semester i've heard "Well I have friends who say..." who's teaching us him or his friends? he really bugs me
AWESOMMMME teacher. a little intimadating, but tests/quizzes are super easy, just take notes in class! oh & pay attention to current events!
Very highly educated. He knows his stuff! As someone said before, don't take his humor personally. If you attend class regularly and watch the movies you'll get at least a B. I'd take him again.
MUST SHOW UP TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES TO PASS.
Cultured educated man who knows a lot about a lot. Is very particular and has a short fuse but has a genuine compassion for groups of people who have been mistreated. Only debate him if you know your stuff. His loathing of ignorance is mistaken by some as snobbery. Enjoyed his class. Tests mostly from note, 20-percent from book. Got a B+
Mr. Brill is not for everyone but I liked him a lot. If you write down the very few notes he gives, skim the book before the test, and watch the movies he assigns, you will do great in this class. Definitely refrain from texting and go to class, he notices these things and he HATES them.
Brill is a great teacher. He mostly lectures , students must have the motivation to read the book on their own.He treats you like an adult , and expects you to be know whats going on in the world.I always found him to be polite . Keep in mind that this professor has traveled and is more cultured than most professors ,leave expectations at the door.
NOT a hard class at all. Attendance is mandatory because 95% of the test are from class notes. You are required to read the text on your own time, very few test questions regarding the text though. He gives you movie quizes that are SUPER easy. I've taken him twice and would again.
Brill is a wonderful Professor. He is often misunderstood and considered arrogant and anal. He is neither. He is a remarkable man and has great compassion for teaching. He does expect you to be able to defend yourself in a debate, which is only right. I believe him to be among Santa Fe's finest add will defend his teaching while he is there.
I have never had a professor who was so...rude. He is absolutly the most frustrating teacher ever. Theres no point in answering his questions 1.youre wrong no matter what 2. 1/2 time you dont even get to finish saying what you want. I would not recommend Brill to anyone.
Although the class is really easy, Dr. Brill is very arrogant. He doesn't allow you to have an opinion because it's wrong. Most test questions are taken from lectures so it's important to be in class but sometimes it's hard to focus on what he's saying.
not the worst or best professor..we spent the first 2 months talking about stuff that happened before the renaissance,so that was weird. also,we didnt take the first exam until 2 months into the class and then we ran out of time after the 2nd exam and he only got to lecture 2 classes before the next exam and also we took the last 2 exams at once.
Mr. Brill isn't a bad teacher. This the 2nd time i've taken one of his class and he was much more tolerable this time. He has great stories and you have to understand his sense of humor to get his jokes. He gives Study sheets (which is new) and questions are from lectures... I never looked at the textbook.
The entire class is based on tests. nothing else. If you're a bad test taker, dont even bother taking this class with him. He gives study guides, but most of the questions on the test arent even from the study guide so it's useless. He doesn't try helping his students, he pretty much doesn't care.
Great teacher, rubs some ppl the wrong way. But he knows what he's talking about, follow the study guides and you'll pass no prob
I appreciated Professor Brill's teaching style and personality. To someone who does not understand dry humor he may seem very rude or arrogant. I found him funny. His class was very easy for me because I take tests fairly well. The class is based entirely on test grades however. He gives study guides that cover what you should know very well.
I like Professor Brill. He's well read and well traveled and funny. If he talks about it, odds are he's seen it in person. Go to class, pay attention, take notes and you'll be fine. He doesn't have a lot of patience for either stupidity or laziness (I don't either) so if you don't plan on putting the time in - don't bother taking his class.
Mr. Brill is an amazing teacher his class was my favorite you learn alot & makes you want to learn more.
Great teacher who loves what he teaches. Very laid back teaching style. He is VERY slow to give work. However, he sees this and will cut assignments from the syllabus (making assignments worth more). However, he is a fair/slightly generous grader who gives easy, scantron tests. I used wikipedia to define the necessary terms (instead of the book).
Did a great job teaching. Easy on grading.
Professor Brill is an outstanding professor. His 3 exams are all multiple choice and the questions are easy to understand. He assigns 2 or 3 movies to watch and quizzes you on them. I bought the textbook but never opened it. Go to class, listen to the lecture, take notes. Easy A. I highly recommend Professor Brill.
Prof. Brill is my favorite prof at SF, he knows practically everything about his subject matter (in each of his classes). His test's are easy I just made a flash card for each item on the study guide and never got lower than a 94 (I took him for 3 diff classes). Do not buy the text books you do not need them at all.
Not the greatest professor I have had. Your grade is based completely on tests which makes it very hard to improve in the course. The material is also extremely open-ended and it is hard to know what to study for if it is not gone over in class.
Brill is the kind of Professor that you love or hate. I personally think he is one of the best professors at Santa Fe. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the material he teaches, and is open to hear opinions from his students. I find him rather humorous as well, but it's more a a dry British humor which I like. I'll be taking more of his classes.
He is a very nice and very smart person. However, all of his classes are just lectures and he only takes grades on tests. This makes it hard for me to show improvement on my grade but if you are good with taking note and getting tested on what you learn then you will do fine in his class.
Professor Brill is NOT the professor for everyone. He is very knowledgeable and very funny but I could definitely see how some people would find him arrogant. I think that it's the students who makes the exams difficult. He'll answer any question you have. He gives ample time for movie assignments. Nothing is required of students till test time.
Class with Professor Brill was at times funny, but overall was off topic and arrogant. The study guide he gives is extremely vague and is barely covered in class. Also, if you are taking this class to learn about the arts, DON'T! All he "teaches" is history. Although I pulled out an A, I do not recommend.
I enjoyed the class and was very interested in the material. I highly recommend this teacher.
He is a seemingly arrogant teacher. Thinks he knows everything. A girl in my class missed an exam because her mom died. He did not let her retake the exam. She DIED! I was completely put off by him. Didn't learn much of anything in class.
Prof. Brill was ignorant and pretty rude. He did not take into account other's feelings and beliefs and thought he was right the entire time. If you are not patient, do not take his class. We used our book only once and gets off topic often.
He is by far the most enlightened, cultured, awesome teacher I have had the honor of having at Santa Fe. He has been everywhere. He knows what he is talking about and has been to most of the places he's mentioned. He has a passion for culture, art, and music. He has surely enlightened me. Take this class if you're not an ignorant moron.
Honestly I took this class as a filler. There are only 4 Exams and there are study guides for each. The only other assignment is a 4 page paper that is so simple almost everyone did it the night before. Attendance is not mandatory and the don't even bother with the book.
Prof. Brill is really awesome to take. I loved this class and he is really friendly and you can easily talk to him!
VERY GOOD TEACHER ALL AROUND . WORKS WITH YOU AND EXPLAINS THINGS EASILY . TAKING NOTES IS ESSENTIAL IN THIS CLASS AND PAYING ATTENTION TO THE CURRENT WORLD NEWS. ONE OF THE BEST CLASSES I'VE EVER TAKEN . Gave me great advice on a personal matter
There aren't a lot of tests. We ended up scrapping one exam entirely and combining it with the final because we ran out of time. Professor Brill is a very cultured man and I looked forward to his lectures and stories. He's one of those guys who seems to know something about everything. His study guides were very helpful for exams.
Easy class, however the classes have almost nothing to do with what is on the exam, but they were still fairly interesting none the less. He gives you a study guide and if you study for like an hour and with a little luck you have a good chance at an A. There is not a lot of work.
Brill gets off topic very easily, then blames it on the students. He has spent entire classes talking about non-class related things. Tests are minimal, but he did assign us one 5 page paper which I got a pretty good grade on. He's a smart and funny guy, but not my kind of teacher. Dry and arrogant.
Professor Brill came across as kind of arrogant to me at first, but he grows on you. He is actually a really funny guy and makes lecture interesting. There are not many tests (2 test, 1 essay, 1 final) or homework. You do have to study a bit but a lot of it is easily retained in class. I would definitely recommend!
Mr. Brill is pretty calm and laid back, but will give you the grade you deserve. I liked him.
Professor Brill is a cool calm person and his class is primarily lectures. He gives you a study guide but taking quality notes during his lectures will prepare you for the 3 tests far better than the study guide will. Only 3 tests, 2 quizzes, and 1 paper. Would recommend if you are interested in the material otherwise you will be bored
He has a strange personality that I didn't think I'd be able to handle for the whole semester, but he kind of grows on you. The class is easy, his lectures are hard to forget & easy to understand, so studying is easy. Not many tests and he gives a pretty thorough study guide, but you have to be there for lectures and watch the videos to pass.
You can tell he truly cares about what he's talking about, and I admire that. However: he is an ass to everyone who isn't as enthusiastic as him. He likes me, because I enjoy/understand the class, but he's a bit snarky to other students. And he expects you to comprehend information the first time it's given, so be aware of that.
Brill is a very passionate professor. He isn't too clear about what is going to be on the exams, but does give an exam review. He mostly has vocabulary on his exam. He shows up late to every class exactly 15 minutes, so you don't need to get there on time.
I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED IN THIS TEACHER. I took this class and absolutely loved it. I got good grades on everything. I took the final and left knowing I had aced it (which I did). His lectures are enthusiastic and funny, so it really should be an easy A. I received a D. He NEVER got back with me about what happened, and I even went to the dept. head.
His class is fun and interactive and he likes putting up visuals on different topics. Don't talk that much between his lectures because he can be a little controversial at times. In-class notes are crucial; if you want to pass, please take notes. He hands out study guides on vocab which are super helpful and ensure a good grade. Good professor.
Mr. Brill is obviously very educated in humanities material, however his ability to relay that information to students is lacking. We have done very little besides talk about random stuff that has nothing to do with the tests/exam, he talks to us like we are idiots and doesn't use his time wisely. Do not take if you want to enjoy your HUM class.
I took Professor Brill for Intro to Western Humanities. Most boring class of my life. Easy class if you show up the days he decides to lecture, the test are easy enough. He gives a sheet with "study alerts" which is essentially vocab you need to know. However if he doesn't go over everything he expects you to figure it out on your own.
Great teacher who gives you all the resources you need to pass this class. If you show up, take notes, and listen there's no reason you shouldn't do well. As with most things in life the effort you put in is equal to what you get out. I learned so much from his lectures. Very interesting and cultured guy. One of the most enjoyable classes I've had.
Prof. Brill was really nice and cultivated. He didn't hesitate to ask for my French experience and knowledge to illustrate his lectures. Very interesting and fairly easy if you pay close attention in class. I recommend him and even more if you are an International Student. He'll be happy to have multicultural students. Merci!
The professor was extremely rude. He didn't hand you a paper? You get lectured in front of the whole class for not saying something to him. He shows up late, and keeps you past the time class should be over. He rambles about things that have nothing to do with the material and he doesn't explain the material well. I learned nothing in this class
Did not like his class at all, he was a very arrogant professor and lectures were very boring. Had like 3 assignments and a couple tests so if you miss one get ready to fail
The class itself was very easy and the tests were common sense. The professor on the other hand, was terrible. Although he is very educated on various topics, he is arrogant and makes students feel stupid when they ask a question. He is very strict on cell phone usage and says that attendance is mandatory even though he doesnt take attendance.
Prof Brill is great. Sit in the front row, interact with him and you'll be fine. If you skip, he acts like he doesn't take attendance, he does. But, If you are a serious student he is an easy A.
Brill was a great teacher. Participate and show up and you WILL pass. He acts like he doesnt take a attendance everyday but he definitely does. Sit up front and interact during class, youll pass. I had absolutely NO prior knowledge of humanities and went to a Christian school that did not teach anything we learned in this class. I got an A.
He got off topic all the time and was more of a history teacher than a humanities teacher. You never know your grade during the semester which makes it hard to know what you're doing right and wrong. Some of the things we learned I did not understand the point of.
very attitude driven. Pay attention in class and should be fine. Test were not bad at all. Only had like two assignments and two test and still don't know my final grade due to him not having a canvas page.
Awful. simple class if you take notes, but he gets on tangents so you have no clue what is test material. proffesor is a complete jerk. does not use canvas so hard to keep track of grades. very opiniated. always thinks he is right, and you are wrong. would never reccomend brill. always comes late but berates you if you are late. gets in ur business
Brill is an awful professor. He is very inconsiderate and can't stay on a specific lecture so you never know what is test material. Very rude and opinionated but can't speak your opinion. He's always late to his classes but will talk behind your back to the other students if you are. He's all in your business and hard to reach outside of class.
Brill was interesting to me, but i could tell my classmates thought he was boring. The majority of the class information is told during lecture. I missed one class and got a whole letter grade down on the midterm because i was missing information. He doesn't put his material on canvas, and you probably wont know your grade till the very end.
I have never met a more God awful professor in my life. How can a person talk for more than an hour with no real point to what he's saying? He mumbles and speaks slowly. I'd look at his vocabulary study alerts and we had not learned any bit of it a month into the class. Do yourself a favor and take a different teacher.
Theres not enough words in any language to describe how awful his class is. Im begging you dont make the mistake I did and take a different teacher
Professor Brill was horrible, the class is already a class that sounds boring and he makes his lectures so boring, he does not sound motivated at all. You should really do not take his class. There are two tests and like two papers and one quiz and he takes so much in giving you the grade of the papers. He is the worst professor I have taken.
Do NOT take him! I signed up for a different teacher and ended up getting him on the 1st day of class idk why. He was rude to some of the students in my class and only gives a couple of grades throughout the semester. During his 2 hour lectures, he rambles on and on about nothing that is important for the class. Take anyone else!!
He can lecture about absolutely nothing for the full hour and will send you through the entire semester with a list of terms that you have to learn yourself while he has taught you nothing. I had to learn most of the material alone, at home, because he provided so little information and no resources.
Would always be late to class but if you were late he would know and give you points off. Lectures about absolutely nothing and then gives you a vocal list and says to study them and they are not on the test. Pay attention and watch the movies he puts on and you will pass.
Mr. Brill has been of one the rudest professors I have ever had. He would often pick on his students and made it difficult for anyone to ask a question. His class was very boring, he would ramble and mumble on about various things often getting sidetracked from his lesson. I could go on and on about him. Please do not take his class.
This class is an easy pass, but if you expect to learn anything of value you're sadly mistaken. I couldn't tell you what humanities is at this point. Jesus and Shakespeare? Only days you really need to show up to class are the test and the movies (If you don't want to buy them). Also don't expect your essay grades to come in a timely manner.
He lectures a lot in class. Bad thing is there are only 3 tests and 2 papers as grades. Try not to get anything less than a C on the papers. As far as textbook material, he sends videos and websites as supplements.
Get on his good side! Lectures may seem boring, but that's more to do with the topic than the professor. Stay after class and get to know him! He is very good with one on ones and understands that life happens. Attendance is optional, but missing class heavily affects the grade. There are only 5 papers that count towards your grade, so be wary!!
I can understand why many people might not like Brill, but if you are genuinely interested in humanities you will like him. Im an anthropology major so I loved his lectures and passion about what he was teaching and didnt mind his tangents at all.
very unorganized, lots of material on exams are not even discussed in class. do not take this class.
never answers his email, hardly anything to grade so you can really boost your grade up, terrible teaching skills.
This class was very easy. Professor Brill is very knowledgeable and worldly. He is passionate about his job. I enjoyed the class.
His class mainly lectures and we were only given two projects throughout the whole semester. If you have to take Intro to Humanities, this is a simple but very boring class. He can be too quiet and talks with a bit of a monotone voice. This is the first class I fell asleep in. Midterm is like the final.
The class was not hard itself but it was a bit boring. He is a nice guy but deviates a lot during his lectures and doesn't focus on the class content. The videos he leaves for HW are very long and boring. We had few graded assignments and he takes forever to grade. You will pass the class easily if you read/watch all the material provided.
Prof Brill is a nice person, however his course is not engaging and difficult to keep up with. I need assignments and things to do in order to understand topics. All he does is play videos and lecture.
Always late
Brill is honestly a great professor if you pay attention to most of his lectures and review what he puts out on canvas (especially vocabulary). He is lecture heavy and he speaks in a monotone voice but he seems very passionate about what he teaches. There are only roughly 4-5 assignments in the class which includes 3 essays and the exams.
He's very lecture heavy and goes off topic constantly. He doesn't take attendance or know anybody in the class names. Only had 2 papers, a midterm, a film quiz, and a final. He doesn't respond to emails quickly. I would not recommend taking this class and if you have to take it, take it online .
AMAZING PROFESOR. AMAZING LECTURES. Such a nice person. Life changing class. 100% recommended. Tests are a little hard though, but not if you study with anticipation. i was very lazy but amazing class.
Lecture heavy, goes off topic most of the time and you can never really figure out what he is trying to teach you. Very few assignments and final is many questions. Not a great professor, do not take.
Amazing professor and an amazing class. I learned so much I wish I could take this class again!
Insanely intelligent, covers every topic and more without book. Awesome guy had great conversations with him and other students for hours after class sometimes. You must act intelligently or you will get embarrassed. Making jokes is welcome as long as they're good. Couldn't be more reasonable! Cares a lot about your grade.
To be completely honest, his class is very difficult. However, if you're truly passionate about European history, you'll probably enjoy the course. Just a word of caution: don't take it if you're sensitive
doesn't accommodate well for students that need them.
This course is by no means fun, but is interesting. You really can miss a couple days here and there and be fine, but make sure to check any announcements he puts out. You really need to make sure you're in class for the days you watch the films he shows because you have multiple tests about them, and they were actually quite good films.
Professor Brill was amazing! He assigns videos to watch and does 2 in class essays, a midterm, film quiz, and a final! He is extremely knowledgable. As long as you watch the videos and put in a little effort to study, you will pass!
Professor Brill is very lecture heavy. He truly is a very intellectual man and honestly he just wants you to pay attention half of the time in his class. Tests are very straightforward and he gives you a study guide. Few assignments so things are weighted heavy, but nothing is difficult or unattainable. Very knowledgeable about history. Great class
Teacher is very heavy on lectures. very few notes to take. no assignments in class other than essays. does not answer emails. very hard to conversate with.
His class is really easy. Just take notes on whatever he talks about in class. Also, watch the videos he posts on canvas. Those will honestly over-prepare you for the tests. His tests aren't too hard either. Just pay attention to the vids and you should be fine. The ones who struggled never came to class or did anything he asked them to in Canvas
I loved this class. Professor Brill is a great storyteller, to the point where I would go home and tell my partner exactly what I learned down to the minute details. There were plenty of online videos to watch, the professor provided study guides as well. If you failed this class, it's probably because you chose not to attend class or take notes.
You can tell that he cares about what he teaches. He does give out a lot of reading/videos/vocab, but as long as you view those and takes notes during class you should be fine. Only down falls are that there isn't any Hw to turn in to build up your grade, and most of the semester (including the first day) he was 15+ minutes late to his own class.
He knew everything about what he taught. He had visited almost every place that he taught about. The only viewpoint he wouldn't entertain is one that shut every other viewpoint out. The best professor I have had at this college by far.
Professor Brill is a passionate lecturer who really knows his stuff. While his class is lecture-heavy, the content is engaging if you stay on top of the videos and readings. Unstuck ai proved invaluable for prepping for tests. Overall, a rewarding class if you put in the effort.
Professor Brill was kind and funny, he was just an older guy who is clearly excited to teach and loves it. I ended up skipping almost every class and just doing the work at home (watching movies/videos), I ended the class with a 98%, so it is definitely possible. There are like 4 or 5 assignments all semester, multiple choice and writing.
All of his lectures are just him taking and showing pictures of Rome and google earth. Very boring but not a hard class at all, we only had 4 assignments all year, they were all test and then the final. Attendance isn't mandatory at all he doesn't even know anyones names honestly just check canvas and come to class when there are test.
only thing he grades are tests and quizzes, no textbook but he provides tons of videos and online articles to supplement. does not reply to email or canvas however he gives you a google text number that he replies to. wouldn't recommend if you want interesting lectures, and to be taught sometimes I did fall asleep while he was lecturing.
There's only 4 grades for the whole semester so there's not much room for error. No PowerPoints during class, just professor speaking. Independent readings and documentaries are assigned on canvas and that's what you're actually tested on so I wouldn't recommend if you don't have much time outside of class.
He was not a strong teacher. We had two in-class writing quizzes, two multiple choice quizzes, and a final. There is not much information to pull from on tests and there is little to no actual test prep. The class uses hard-to-watch videos to learn information but they are useless for actually doing well in the class.
He was a good professor. Very understanding and knowledgeable. The only downside I would say is that I can count the number of grades I had in the class on one hand. We had a 4 tests then the final. We didn't have any homework or classwork. He also didn't count attendance. Also, he was also late everyday. Some days, it would be 20 minutes even.
This humanities class was an easy A if you attended and paid attention. Quizzes are based on lectures, with no PowerPoints or textbook, and nothing is posted on Canvas. Attendance is mandatory, especially on movie days since those quizzes are easy points. His later lectures are interesting, filled with personal stories from his travels.
He mostly talked and lectured, and the tests were either multiple choice or paragraph style. He was not the most welcoming.
He wasn't bad, he was always late to class, it started at 9:30 and everyday he showed up at 9:45. He says a few slick remarks, no assignment, like 3 in total including the midterm and final so you have to do good./he doesn't really teach, he just rambles abut the information because he loves it. We watched 2 movies also. Not the best, but not bad.
Professor Brill is a kind of professor where everything he says in his lectures is important. Even when it seems like he's rambling, he's not. Not many graded assignments on Canvas, but read those articles! The course is art heavy. Tests are based on vocab and movies watched in class. If you pay attention, the class should be pretty easy, and fun.
I thought he wasn't good for the first three months or so then he was caring towards me.
Honestly, your average college course structure but he actually made it interesting. He has been to where he talks about and is very interested in what he teaches too. He also aint always on time for the first class but honestly can you blame him? I loved his lecture structures and he also always gave out a study guide making tests sooooo easy.
Professor Brill is an overall awesome guy. He has so many stories to tell and does a great job at lecturing. I will say there are little to no assignments in the course so your grade is very test heavy. The tests are easy and he basically gives you a study guide with everything you need to know to pass.
He was TERRIBLE towards me. He picks students in every class and makes their life a living hell when it comes to grading. He once accused me of cheating for being the last one in the class taking the exam. I finished 20 minutes before class ended.
Very smart guy, loves his subject. Kinda random lectures though, very rambly but still good information. No homework, he gives resources as "assignments" to study and you really should watch and read them if you want a good grade. I think there's four graded assignments total.
He's a nice guy but his lectures lost their points a lot of the time and made it hard to really take anything out of it. Nothing taught related much to tests, you have to watch all the videos/articles to be able to know whats going on. Always 10-15 mins late. Clear on what would be on the test though and told you where to find it so you could prep.
Not quite sure where to begin with Professor Brill; however, I'll remain respectful. Zero normal assignments given to buffer your grade, his lectures go from A to Z, and you'll leave class often feeling more confused from when you arrived. EXTREMELY passive aggressive and dare not ask him a question in an attempt to gain more clarity. I do NOT rec!
