Happiest chemist I've ever seen! He's so good in teaching synthetic organic chemistry.
Definately the best prof I've had by far. Clear, patient, considerate, funny, easily approachable and tries his best to go at the pace of the class. His notes are amazing, and office hours are extremely helpful! Just an all around nice guy, and wicked prof.
Hard course.... but this proff is AMAZING! And he's cute.
This guy is the chem god
Awww ... omg! This prof is the best!!!! His notes rock and he's a really good prof! From his teaching style, to his personality, to his interest in the course, it all totally helps with learning organic chem. Trust me, you'll never find yourself bored in his class. He's really really friendly and helpful too.
Very nice and easy to understand. There were terror stories of organic chem from previous semesters, so it is definitely great that this semester isn't as bad. His notes are awesome, and is a nice person when you talk to him.
very good prof, but the lots of course material, and lots of copying notes, it gets pretty intense but only to cover as much as the material you need to know, cool guy and knows exactly what u need to know. take this course if he's teaching it!!! (nevertheless takes a lot of effort to ace this course)
Very clear in his teaching. His notes are a bit messy and kind of hard to read, but hemakes up for it my marking really easy.....nice guy
Very good prof, concise notes mainly taken from the textbook. Able to explain difficult concepts well and has high, but reasonable expectations for the class. If you study and stay on top of your readings/assignments, you should do well.
Nice prof, gives very engaging lectures and his exams are fair. His notes, on the other hand, are quite disorganized.
pretty nice prof.. easy marking... but goes way too fast during lecture.. hard to catch up
The best Prof Ever! Thank you sooooo much
Good prof. I have to use his notes for my chem 282 and just realized how disorganized they REALLY were... Other than that, his clarity and explanation of the concepts really helped me to understand.
wicked prof, fair exams and easy to approach if you have any questions. made organic chemistry about as unpainful as possible
very helpful, easiest marker in the world, but look out because his test questions don't represent the material learned in class very well.
Not bad at all.
he an awesome prof. clear to understand and midterms were fair. final was a little weird.. but i enjoyed him as a prof and don't fall behind in chem or you're screwed. only flaws that he had was only because it was his first semester teaching. don't pass on the chance to have him as a prof!
This class is extremely difficult. It's so hard to understand lectures. The rumours were definitely true!
lecture notes are all over the place and are not very clear. goes too fast in lecture. don't fall behind in readings or else you'll pay in your grade. midterms are fair if you study for it. do previous year's final and know it well cause they are similar!
Awesome proff, great personality, looked forward to going to class!
fair exams. text is very helpful for clairifying his notes. He's really helpful in person. plus he's hot which is a nice change from most old fat profs.
Nicest guy in the world! Best teacher ive had at SFU, if u get the chance to take his class, do ur self a favour and take it.
he's a great teacher, organic chem is just really hard!!
Funny and approachable but his lectures are a not very comprehensive and his final was WAY more difficult than the midterms
Dr Britton is a very approachable prof and encourages students to go office hours for extra help. His explanations are usually quite clear. His exams are fair, but not enough time is given. He makes jokes sometimes and is enthusiastic about the subject. Take this class if he's teaching!!!
Had him for Chem 281 and 282. He goes through lectures pretty quickly and unless you are at the front of the room, his writing and diagrams can be hard to decipher. The exams are pretty standard in terms of difficulty. He's a pretty nice guy though, so two thumbs up.
although organic chem is known for being a tough course for most people (and after expecting to have a "typical" chem prof)... he's far from that. such a charming prof. pretty handsome plus his lectures are very helpful i find. exams are fair and trust me he is just as worth coming to class for as the notes !! ;)
This teacher is amazing. He understands the speed at which the class should be taught and teaches it as such. Not only that, his tests are fair and he makes very difficult chemistry less complex by going step by step. Answered any weird questions that came up in class. Knowledgeable individual and very personable
I took both Chem 281 and 282 with Rob. And I really recommend everyone to take organic chem with him. i was very scared about organic since it is rated as a very hard course, but i think i did good only because of Rob. For 281 and 282, his notes were the only thing you had to know, i never studied from book, his exams were fair. and he is very nice
Organic II was hard, his notes were extremely clear, a he answered questions in and out of class. The mid term was a joke compared to the final, but the final was fair. Assignments easy at first way too hard there after. Good prof overall if you find organic chem to be hard take it with this guy.
highly recommended...goes quite quick with the lecturing and notes in class but explains the material really well..exams were alright...made organic chem as painless as possible =)
GREAT prof. he encourages students to go to his office hours, and if you go, go early! there's always lots of ppl waiting. he explains things very clearly and is always happy to answer questions. his finals are hard because his midterms are pretty easy. go to class and be prepared to write as he does notes on the overhead.
Great Guy, knows exactly what he's doig. Although, the class is a lot of work and very hard itself, Britton does everything he can to help the students get the concepts. Tip: Avoid skipping lectures as much as possible and make sure you go to the tutorials.
I had him for both 281 and 282 and he really is an awesome prof. You have to go to lecture as all notes are given on the overhead and not posted online. Very clear lecturer and took time to ask and answer questions. Made sure that mid terms and finals were close to practice exams except for the 282 final which came out of nowhere! Take his courses!
Great prof, good, clear and concise notes. exams fair although the memorizing of reactions is a bit tedious. Tip for exams: Make sure to know your proton acidity and molecule acidity (about 1/4 final exam around that). Bonus: provides practice questions before finals. Definitely recommended
What a nice guy. He explains everything, even stuff from 281 so even if u didn't learn anything from it, u wont be lost. The exams were quite tough, but it's stuff that he has covered. His notes were awesome!
WOOOW! one of the best prof i've ever had! fair tests, crystal clear notes, and reasonable office hrs, u just couldnt ask for more. two things u need to ace his courses: read his notes and do the practice in text and his tutorials. if most ppl screw on one test, big chance he will rescale the mark (what a nice person...)
ok so i came to this site before to see if i should register in this dude's class since sophie laveiri was a complete fail. and it looked like he was a good prof but hes really not. writes down notes and talks way too fast for one to absorb anything hes saying. and he acts like all this stuff is common knowledge when its so hard!
The best prof I have ever taken a class with. Yes the course material is alot of work but I'm not kidding when I say if u show interest in the course material, Britton will make sure u get everything u need to know. He had review sessions for Chem 281 material that he held aside from the office hours which were very helpful so yes, he is the best!
Extremely good prof! His lectures and notes were really useful! Very helpful during office hours; no question is stupid for him. Course overall is really hard; so was his final. A lot of reactions to understand.
An extremely helpful prof, his exams are very fair and he is always willing to help or give advice.
He is the man. He is very knowledgeable and tells you what you are suppose to know for exam. Highly recommended. I wish I had him for chem 286. Britton, you the best!
Loved this prof! Great notes; I liked that they were handwritten instead of powerpoint notes. Clear explanations, and cheerful all the time! I would really suggest taking this course with him.
Make sure you go to lectures. Also, he recycles his assignments, so if you can get a hold of his old assignments, you get a free 15%.
Interesting individual with a very relaxed personality and a sparkling sense of humor. Quite friendly and down to earth, absolutely hates textbooks and give crystal notes that can be comprehended by even politicians. Be sure to attend all lectures, work on all tutorials ahead of time and, most importantly, do his practice exams.
Great teacher, great notes, and great attitude. Go to tutorials because they are there to help reinforce the greatness too. His notes and problem sets help so much. Fair midterm and exam!! wanna take take his CHEM 455 class!!!
Dr. Britton is one of the best professors!! Lectures are really helpful. His notes are clear and organized. Do not need to use the textbook. With this prof, organic chem can be fun!
Personally, he is a really good prof than others. the midterm was fair, BUT the final was really hard. The practice final exam was not helpful than I expected. The updated final exam is way harder than previous final exam (practice final exam)
Amazing prof! Kept me awake during the lectures and managed to make the material learnable. I thought the midterm was very fair, BUT his final killed me (and i'm pretty sure most of the class, from the looks on people's faces):s
He is the man!!
He is amazing professor. Probably the best prof i ever seen so far. He is so helpful, funny and try to make the subject interesting. As much as he helps, he expect the student to understand really well so the exams are not that easy
Very clear and helpful prof. He can write an Organic chem book for dummies! he explains EVERY SINGLE thing with several examples in class and he write down on an overhead so you never get to fall asleep! exams are OK if you study and so his previous exams. I HIGHLY recommend him if you are interested in learning some O Chem!
where do i start off. At first he was a great prof at teaching but if u dont listen well, you wont get anything you write in your notebook cause he goes pretty fast. Heres how to study for his class: MAKE SURE YOU CAN DO THE SAMPLE MIDTERMS, always do the tut questions no matter what. and if u dont get his lecture just go for the textbook
He's a genius. If you can't get an A on his exams you never will get an A, ever. If you failed his class, choose another career path (seriously). All the exams were fair, and he prepares you thoroughly. His lectures are like khan academy for ochem.
Super nice guy, obviously loves what he teaches. Explained things pretty well, and was always willing to answer questions or explain in more depth when needed. His first midterm was relatively fair, but the final was super difficult, much harder than anything we had ever encountered in class or homework. Also, class isn't scaled/bell curved at all.
He's probably one of my favourite chem prof's ever. Really helpful, his notes are all you'll need to do well in his course so attend lectures! Not too much homework, but tutorials are mandatory. The midterms were fair, keep note on things he mentions in class but final was HARD! Awesome teacher regardless
I just finished CHEM 455 with Rob. He is the best ochem prof in SFU. Very passionate with the subject and wants his students to succeed. Very helpful and patient with questions. Mt was okay just study notes and old mt. Final was pretty good as long as you do lots and lots of practice questions. Overall a good class to take for ochem lovers.
Just got the results of the midterm back and failed it by A LOT, and I didn't even do that bad in 281. His midterm was long compared to his practice ones, and had a lot of tricky questions that weren't in the examples provided in his notes. If you are not naturally gifted in chem, DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS. Goes way too fast when teaching.
Whoever thinks he is easy must be joking i took this class because i thought i would get a good grade his midterm was so hard. Studied hard and still didn't do well!
Wasn't even close to passing his midterm. I studied hard for it, but for some reason he decides to put tricky questions and molecules that we haven't even seen before on the exam, COMPLETELY UNFAIR. I studied hard, and my efforts were a waste because the exam questions are way harder than anything we seen in class or his practice midterms.
Rob is an excellent professor, one of the best at SFU. Very clear in his teaching and genuinely interested. Always writes his own notes on the overhead so you're forced to keep up, which is wonderful. He's easy to talk to is more than happy to answer questions. Mid term was good but as expected, the final was tough. Take his class!
his notes are really clear and helpful but the midterms are way to hard. Studying off the notes for the exams will not help at all. Instead do practice questions as much as possible.
TESTS were WAY too hard
Great Guy!!! Need to keep on top of the material but exams were fair and lecture notes were awesome! Feel like the other comments were unfair, it is a tough course, but if you put in the work it's not bad.
Fantastic prof, tests were fair and you would do well if you studied. I wish I had taken 283
I put all my time and energy in this course, but I still found it extremely difficult. I find people rate him high just because he's funny/good looking. That doesn't help in terms of his exams, and his notes didn't either because they were scattered and his exam questions were so abstract. If you're not a chem major, you'll probably have trouble.
Midterm was fair ( from his notes). Final was hard... He scaled the midterm because no one got perfect. The course is tough .. I spent way too much time on it and just passed .. Read ahead and come to class .. You'll be fine .
Dr. Britton is a great prof but the course itself is very difficult. He does handwritten notes, but you really need to understand the concepts yourself, which I learned the hard way. The assignments and tutorial questions were okay but the midterm and final were quite difficult and unlike the practice tests.
Rob's totally awesome! He has good notes and explanations of all the concepts. If you don't understand something, he's really easy to approach too, super relaxed and chill; this is one cool guy :) The exams aren't bad either. There are quite a few reactions, but if you keep up, it shouldn't be too bad. One of the best profs I've had :D
midterm was fair (he scaled it because no one got perfect). Mostly concept questions from his notes. The final was hard and he did not scale the final.
Very nice professor. Explains things pretty well. The course itself was hard - there was a lot to memorize. His assignments were a bit difficult, but pay attention to the chemistry of the reactions! The midterms and final were fair, but not easy. Dr Britton seems to be very knowledgeable.
This course was ridiculously hard, but even when you think you're going to fail, keep going. I thought I was going to fail for sure, but I kept working hard until the very end and I passed! I didn't do well on the midterm and the final, but tutorial participation and assignments really help your mark. Be prepared for hard exams, but don't give up!
Robert is a very organized Prof who teaches really well. He has the entire course planned out and his notes are very clear and to the point. You don't need any textbook or any additional resources; his notes are enough and I love that. If you make the effort to attend you lecs, pay attention, do your tuts seriously then you will get an A.
Robert is an amazing prof. Explains things well in lecture, but notes are hand-written and not posted online. The material is difficult, and yes, you will have to pay attention in class to understand what's going on. For what the course is, I wouldn't want to take it with anyone else except him. Very approachable, fair exams, but study hard.
Rob is a great guy, and will go the extra mile to help you if you show you care. I'd highly recommend going to his office hours as his explanations were fantastic in a one on one setting. He does handwritten notes so make sure you pre-read the textbook before lecture so you understand what's going on. Everything on the tests is from his notes.
Dr. Britton is hilarious and very approachable. If you practice everyday and keep up with the work the material will be easier to understand moving forward in the course. His exams are tough but O chem in itself is hard to understand at first but once you get the basics the rest of it is just expansions of the same topic.
Really nice prof. Writes notes in class but it's hard to keep up with how fast he writes. Notes themselves are pretty good but imo you're better off using the textbook with the notes as supplementary material. Exams were hard but fair. Material gets much harder after the first midterm. It took a lot of effort but i would recommend this class
Rob is a great prof honestly. The material in this class is pretty difficult and he tries his absolute best to make it was simple as possible. The exams were a little difficult but all were fair. Attend his office hours if you can they were very helpful.
He doesn't post his notes, instead he writes them by hand so you have to follow along and copy them down. I found that this way was very helpful but you definitely need to copy notes from someone if you're going to be away. Notes were good enough for studying for the exams. Explains topics in good detail and will gladly answer any question in class
Britton is a charismatic prof who seems to genuinely care about teaching his students. I recommend focusing on taking his notes (as he makes them in lecture and doesn't post them) and studying them at home (practice is necessary!) He makes his tests passable, and often scales at least one midterm-- however, this is a difficult course so work hard.
Rob was a really great prof he makes a very hard class significantly easier as he explains concepts thoroughly and takes exam material directly from lecture. His class notes are very important to keep organised in order to do well. Rob is very approachable and creates a great environment in lecture and his office hours.
Overall great prof with good lectures/notes and fair exams. If you listen in class and do lots of practice you'll be fine
he is a great person, but not the best prof. I did not like the fact that he wrote notes while teaching and that he didnot post them.
Great prof, explains things very clearly, encourages questions. The course itself is super hard but he does a good job at teaching. He goes a bit fast, he doesn't post his notes so you should show up for lecture. Exams are fair, however very time constrained. No homework, so not a lot of practice material.
Britton is excellent. I doubt I would've passed this class if it wasn't for him. He writes out all his notes in class and doesn't post them, so you have to go, but it's definitely worth it. Amazing at answering student's questions as he understands their thought process. This man is a gift.
Made a relatively hard class pretty easy to understand
Robert is the best professor i've had at SFU so far. He is very good at explaining concepts and is very accessible for help. His notes are clear, although his handwriting isn't the best. If you work hard and are dedicated to doing well, it will be reflected in your grades. Lost of chances for partial marks.
Top lad!
Tries his best to make sure his students understand the material and very fair exams. I think he turned a hard course into a relatively okay to understand course but you also have to put in the work yourself. He writes his notes which is incredibly helpful and keeps you busy during lectures. Not a lot of practice material though
This was a hard course but Robert made it really easy to understand. His midterms were EXACTLY like his practice midterms, so if you learn the concepts and can do the practice midterms you can score really good on the tests (although he gives LOTS of questions to complete in 45 minutes). The final exam was a bit harder than the midterms.
If i took this course with a different prof, I would've failed and had to retake it. Robert Britton is a blessing, literally. He is generous in terms of marking and he simplifies the materials well. His notes are good and his writing can sometimes be illegible. Exams are fair except for the time limit.
Dr. Britton somehow was able to help me pass his course with his extremely simple, straightforward and clear teaching style. You have to attend every one of his lectures,or have some friends taking notes in the class, as he typically does not use handouts or slides but instead hand write everything on a projector slide.
This guy is a straight homie, like honestly saved my life in o-chem, Love him, super funny, and his hand written notes really help in understanding the course.
Robert is the best professor I have had at SFU so far, I can't reccomend him enough. He understands that this is a brutally hard class and he does his best to make it as simple as possible. You can tell he genuinely cares about his teaching and he wants his students to succeed and will do everything he can to help them pass.
Rob is such a great professor for me. He is extremely funny, and he makes class pass by extremely quickly! His notes are handwritten, so be sure to be there for lectures. He will not post them unless certain circumstances. However, his exams are fair. If you do tutorial questions and his practice exams, you will be able to do well! :)
An extremely passionate prof who cares about your learnings. He understands that this course is challenging but he will answer all your questions. He has a great sense of humour and his jokes make lectures much less dry. He doesnt post lecture notes so be sure to show up for all classes. Exams are brutal, but he will scale the grades heavily.
Robert is a great prof, he hand writes the notes in lecture which I like although his writing could be hard to read at times. He gives plenty of examples which are helpful to the material. Still unbelievable how I passed the course. He scales the midterms to the highest mark someone got on it.
I struggled a lot in this class because Robert handwrites all the notes and never posts them. If you don't take good and organized notes like me, when the exam comes, you will have nothing to study to. However, Dr. Brittons' lectures are good. The curve is also really lenient! I got 60 in lab and 1 midterm and still ended up with an A.
Robert is honestly the best chemistry prof Ive ever had! His notes are all written on an overhead so make sure to sit at the front, sometimes Iclicker questions for participation marks and he curves like a hero!! He is very nice and really approachable for help and is actually willing to help his students succeed and pass the class! RECOMMENDED!
I. love. this. man. He is so funny and approachable and really makes the course content interesting and enjoyable. If you are required to take organic chemistry, definitely take it with Rob. He understands his students and truly wants them to learn. He is relatable as he often uses his personal experiences to connect with students. He is amazing!
Amazing prof whose love and passion for ochem are visible during LEC. Gives chalk board notes and tutorials to reinforce reactions learned. Midterm and final was fair as long as you do old problem sets. Show him you want to be the best and he will reward you handsomely.
I have Robert this semester online, and his exams are clear and reasonable. He is very understanding and wants all his students to do well. I love Robert.
LOVE THIS INDIVIDUAL
Only good thing I can think about to say is that he is okay at explaining things one-to-one. Notes are messy and he doesn't post them so you have to watch the lectures (those are messy too) and he doesn't tell you anything about the exams until like two days before the exam. Do lots of practice to learn the material (of which he provides none) GL.
Dr. Britton is a great professor! I do truly love how he had handwritten the lecture notes and how concise they were. The best thing about how he handled CHEM 280 was that his midterms/final was actually LIKE the practice midterms/final he gave out, which was great. Also, he scales the exam grades up which can really help too.
Notes were unorganized which made it hard to review them. Didn't give us any information about the exams or give us any practice exams until a couple days before the exam. Midterms were way harder than any practice questions we were given but the final ended up being decent. Good thing was that the class was curved a lot.
Chem profs are a different breed. Lectures were captivating and he was good at explaining concepts. Very fast at responding to emails. Exams were like the problems in tutorial worksheets just harder.
The lectures themselves seemed decent with little confusions and the professor was nice. But it went downhill really quickly with the exams because they were a complete different level compared to the lectures. His lectures covered only the most basic tings of the topics, which would NEVER solely prepare you for the exams.
he is very nice and approachable but the exam is hard asf. the lectures are good, and he teaches very well with little confusion but you need to practice a lot to get a good mark on the exam because the examples he does in class are simple.
Dr. Britton is very approachable and knowledgable. His lectures are enjoyable and he posts multiple practice midterms that are very similar to the actual exam. I would hands-down take more courses with him. He made the intro to ochem enjoyable.
Super chill prof, teaches very well and is easy to follow along with. No homework. The midterms are a copy and paste of the practice midterms he provides - do those and you will do great in the class.
Great guy but I did struggle in this class super funny and great lectures
I must say this professor is really nice and funny as a person, he always makes the class laugh and keep us entertained! He also gives no homework so that there is no official in-class resources for us to practice what we have learned! More importantly, his midterms are so easy that we have such a high average of 51%! Recommended!
This professor is highly recommended, if you want to fail chemistry.
dear professor, i wanted to say that you made chem 281 bearable and interesting. i could tell that you're super passionate in chemistry. when you said that you almost failed this course back in your university days, it gave me hope. p.s. please teach chem 282, thank you.
One of the best professors I've had so far! Robert is a great professor and really helps you understand ochem. His lectures and examples are clear and he encourages questions for clarification throughout the lectures. Do the practice midterms and you're set for the exams. Highly highly recommend!!
I see he's gotten a lot of 5's for difficulty but its an ochem course so thats expected. I was really scared coming into this class, but Robert makes ochem not so scary. He's an amazing prof and have amazing lectures. If you want to actually understand ochem, he's the prof for you!
Robert makes an incredibly hard course manageable. Exams are challenging but the layout is identical to the practice exams.
MADE MY LIFE 100X EASIER. ochem is a breeze with him just put in a bit of effort and watch that gpa flourish. still waiting for the final but the 2 midterms were easy peasy with senor roberto. No homework, just tutorials, iclicker, 2 midterms, and a final. No notes are provided so he writes while he talks which is the only thing that sucks.
Rob makes lectures very interesting and makes complicated topics easy to understand. The exams are tough, but he gives practice exams which are similar in structure to the actual exams and were useful. This is a tough class, but Rob makes it bearable.
good prof
Dr. Britton is an absolute legend. He is extremely caring, charismatic and fun professor. Chem281 is very tough course but he made it so fun and engaging that I would definitely take another course with him. I know you gonna see this Dr. Britton. THANK YOU!
The prof made the exam way harder than expected.
Rob is a very approachable prof who has very clear and straightforward lectures. If you put the effort in the lectures and tutorials you won't have any problem passing ochem.
One of the best professors I've ever had. The topics covered were interesting (though may appear challenging at first). He is excellent at explaining principles and building an intuitive understanding of key concepts. Midterms and the final were fair and can be prepared for effectively. He was inspiring and helped me grow fond of Organic Chemistry
Dr. Britton is amazing. Organic chem is pretty challenging but he makes it very manageable. He is pleasant, knowledgeable, and well respected and he goes to lengths to ensure that his students are cared for. His practice exams are very helpful for exam prep. All his work is greatly appreciated.
Dr. Britton is a great professor. He doesn't have any lecture slides and writes all his notes in class so attending lectures is definitely encouraged. The material itself is difficult but Dr. Britton is extremely helpful when you go to him for help during his office hours.
One of the nicest professor but also the worst at teaching
Professor Britton is a very nice professor to have if you already understand the course materials and are only seeking for chill lectures. Otherwise, he is not recommended.
His classes okay and he is a chill prof. Exams are hard but he gives a lot of practice questions and the actual exams are a lot similar which makes it easier to study.
Everything was just easy at first, and I even got close to 80% in the first midterm. But materials later got ridiculously hard and exams were extremely different to the practice midterms he gave, leaving merely a 50% average. Also he put MANY iclickers on the same few lectures which I COINCIDENTLY missed, directly took almost 4% of my final score.
No offense but a very overrated prof
I truly despised the way he conducted his lectures as in did not post any notes. That was the most frustrating part and made my life way more difficult than needed. Otherwise yeah he is a mid prof. His exams aren't like that difficult he just puts ridiculous amount of questions and theres like no time to finish which was a pain
Overrated prof, he's mid-prof at best (which I think is highly flattering to call him that)
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Britton, he was clear in his explanations, always available outside class hours, and answered every question from the class during lectures. He provided the class with many practice midterms and finals which were very similar to our actual midterms and finals. He was also a nice guy in general, and funny
