He is VERY theoretical when teaching physics, making it sometimes hard to understand. Often tends to derive formulae in class using math and techniques way beyond the scope of the course. Can be confusing at times.

incapable of explaining anything in useful terms. tests unnecessarily difficult content. too lazy to even write math out on the board - he clicks through a terribly formatted and convoluted powerpoint and lectures into discussion and lab periods.

He is a decent teacher who teaches a difficult class. His intro physics course isn't out of the ordinary; its just that physics is a hard subject that requires a lot of practice on the student's part. If you haven't done calc based physics before, his class will be challenging, but he always stays after class if you have questions and is very fair.

My advice to all: do not take this class with Professor Brown. He schedules meetings for four hours twice a week which is way too long. The homework problems are difficult. Additionally, Brown's lectures and textbook were not helpful in mastering the material: they were full of irrelevant information.

Physics is a hard subject. Don't confuse dislike for the subject with dislike for the professor. My suggestion, if you are lacking on sleep don't go to class, sleep in, and go thru the lecture notes yourself. Also, the textbook is pretty clear and the problem sets interesting. Quite a bit of work though, expect a quiz and a problem set every week.

he's a super nice dude but not a well-suited teacher for most people, especially if ur not comfortable w math and physics already.

Terrible teaching style-- sits & clicks through dense slides of calc & physics that is not conducive to learning. Class blocks were 4 hours long 2x a week which was exhausting & a waste of time. Didn't find team-based learning helpful as everyone was confused. Highly recommend reading through the textbook and going to office hours.

Terrible lecturer--just clicks through slides and doesn't even do math on the chalkboard. I found more value in sleeping. In class problems, lecture slides, and the textbook (which he wrote) were the most helpful. The lectures themselves--not as much. Easy class for those with previous physics experience, but the textbook was very well-written.

Professor Brown is an awesome great guy who really cares about his students; he's very personable, humorous, and easy to talk to. The course is very test/quiz heavy but as long as you review previous quiz material and use CramBetter you'll do great. Physics with Prof Brown is challenging but a really good time nonetheless!

Professor Brown is a very approachable professor who wants his students to succeed. I found the slides and textbooks (especially the textbooks full of practice problems) that he provides to be very helpful. Decently hard class but you will succeed if you put in the effort.

Prof. Brown has been teaching physics for a few decades now, and it shows. So many helpful resources he's developed: lecture slides, extremely detailed (maybe exceedingly verbose) textbooks, repositories of hundreds of practice problems, etc. Lectures themselves a bit dry. Gives extra credit. Really nice guy. Manageable if you put in the time.

He's such a nice guy. Unfortunately, I struggled with the material and found his explanations somewhat out of my grasp (he's very smart/experienced of course). I ended up learning a lot of the content independently but he gives you a lot of chances to succeed and is generally very fair. But for the love of god do not get behind in this class.

Absolute worst class I've taken at Duke. He sits there and clicks through the slides without explaining. Says things like "you should be able to solve this using common sense". Finished all of projectile motion in 2 slides (20 minutes). He also makes us solve questions using concepts we haven't learned in class, and expects us to just know things.

RBG is a great guy, but a horrible physics professor. Do not take this class if you don't have previous physics experience, save yourself pain and take it elsewhere. His slides are convoluted and his textbook is more philosophy than physics. Don't be fooled by the 122 rebranding, it's still calculus heavy and its 6 hours a day over the summer.

RGB is a nice guy who is passionate about teaching, which is more than can be said about many other professors. However, lectures are confusing and you will likely have to do a lot of learning outside of class. He also gives a lot of partial credit and drops lowest exam, HW, etc. Also, this class is always hard regardless of the professor.
