This class is verry easy because theres no test or quizzes but there tons of homework and projects that are easy but are annoying to complete and take way to much time. I would rather take a test than do these projects.
Dont ever take this class unless you want to waste a whole semester. I did not learn anything about political science. He dosent teach from the 2 textbooks that he makes you buy and assigns stupid projects like interview a federal judge, federal congressman and cabinet memberDont ever take his class
Bruhl is the best teacher ive ever had at UIC, his class is fun and he is very understanding.
Dude lost all of our finals. He had us turn them in in some ratty cardboard box in the polisci dept and somebody swiped them. I wound up getting an A somehow.
im regreting taking his class. he knows a lot about the subject of political science, but fails to show it to the class. i didnt learn anything really, but the class was easy as hell. 6 mini project that you could easily ****. no tests, which is a rarity at UIC, so if thats what you like, do
Great teacher and very helpful
very easy class.. won't learn anything.. projects are pointless but easy to do.. should go to lecture sometimes or have people take turns.. no exams or quizzes... this class is an easy A
Dont ever take this class it is the biggest waste of time. I didnt learn a thing this semester and th congresman that he made me intervies said why are people like this teaching and wasting the time an money of students
easy class, but he loses papers easily so be careful. No tests!!
Bruhl is the best...those who complain want their courses force-fed to them. He doesn't do that...he simply expects initiative on your part. He rules. Just don't ever buy the books, you won't need them.
Easy class, no tests, not term papers, just simple projects that could be done in groups.
It's an ok class. You really won't learn much except for the crap you read on your own. All the work can really be split up so you never really need to complete an assignment on your own. It's all group work and hands on activites. The work is relativly easy, but it takes a long time to complete assignments because it is all reading and recording. Good luck have fun.
EASY!!! I went in thinking that this would be about pols sci, instead its more of a history class, u read "brief history to western civilization" & then u do a big proj. on the book, lotsa group projects simple quizes in discussion most time u go to class & he lets you out 30 min ahead or cancels class easy class to keep up GPA
really boring... i learned more in the discussion one day a week than any lecture i went to. no tests/quizzes/papers... lots of little projects and tables. the only reason to go to lecture is to get the assignment. after that- he lets you go. easy: very. mentally stimulating: not at all.
Very VERY professor...most of the time you stay in class to get the project and leave early...no tests...papers...or final exam....all easy projects... very easy A
no tests, based on attendance and projects, a lot of busy work work but easy work
The class is easy enough. There are no tests, but he assigns tons of time-consuming projects. Don't expect to learn much.
TOO MANY PROJECTS, BUT VEY EASY!!! TOO MUCH READING!!!
okay, its an easy a, but if ur a poly-sci major like me, its useless!
VERY EASY A
He was a joke, but he is easy from what I heard.
He really is not a bad professor its just that he assign stupid projects the bottom line is he does not want to take it hard on students... if you want to learn take mckenzie and fail if you don't take bruhl and get a A.
awesome teacher!! easiest A i ever received!!
I like the atmosphere he presennts to his students. Not attending lectures wont harm your grade but, if you attend lectures you will learn something. He gives you freedom in that sense. Not a bad guy
Class is easy and fun... just make sure your TA is cool. About 90% got As.
Easy class but if you have a cool TA and a good discussion group it will be great! Its all projects and no tests and the projects are quite easy. Its great if you need a boost for your GPA since its an easy A and if you need a class that you dont need to concentrate on and give your attention to other classes. This class is great! Yay Jamie! :)
This is an awsome class to take. I had an awsome TA and she gave us extentions on the projects and even some days off from discussions. The class is based only on projects so that can either be good or bad for you. To me it was awsome. Easy A. NO TESTS NO FINALS...highly recommended.
didnt think i'd do well but i learned some interesting info about our government. lectures r easy, i recommend switching off days with friends just gto get assignments. TA's are great, relaxed. projects may be time consuming (like 2 hr max) but will earn you the easiest A of your UIC career. very worth the effort! he isvery dedicated and smart.
The class is prolly the easiest one you will take at UIC and I reccomend you take it for a gpa booster. The other guy mckenzie really sucks
Please listen... Bruhl has changed his curriculum. Nothing is the same as these people say. He now assigns like 4 text books that he expects you to read FULLY by the third week of class... I'm NOT kidding. I mean the exams are pretty easy, but the reading is just unbelievable! There is also an article every week for discussion you have to do.
i took him for 101, 200 and 201. So, he assigns those readings but really just go to lecture and pay attention in discussion first exam IS open notes and you don't have to read the western civ book! The second exam requires the reading since its multiple choice, but its not that bad at all. He is a great teacher, very helpful. I wish he was teachin
Great class, very little work... as long as you complete the few assignmetns assinged you will get an A
As a class its the easiest one ive taken in college but as a professor he is aweful but you should get an A no matter what
He now has test in his class, they didn't have them before. A lot of reading is assigned but nobody does it and ended up with As and Bs.
people that dont do well in his classes are the ones that really put no effort into it..if you do the work. its an easy A. hes such an awesome teacher, very linient and understanding.
Dr. Bruhl is a very nice person. I am taking his class now and THERE ARE EXAMS AND QUIZES. We had one quiz which counted as our midterm and one exam so far. we will have final exam as well. There are lots of projects that are time consuming, but if you do those it is an easy A.He is very helpful and understanding as well. Take his class!!!
Que horrible!
He is a good professor-he really cares.
The Wise One... very well read on social and political philosophy and knowledgeable on most areas of poly sci. Very opinionated but always open and never condescending. Reading assignments include philosophical classics such as Machiavelli, Aristotle, and Hume, all of which shouldn't be painful for any poly sci student. Has funny dry sense of humor
I had Bruhl few years back. The class was very easy, however it was extremely time consuming. The projects would take me about 8 hours to complete(not because they were hard, but took much of my time). I heard he changed his grading scheme now though, if this is the case I feel sorry for everyone, I used to go to like every lecture(I was a freshman
Great teacher, took him because of his feedback on here and I was not disappointed. Although attendance was not taken I always went to class, he was very helpful, didnt even have to open the book. Projects were simple, they were prepared for months in advance, I didnt start them until a few days before and still received exceptional grades on them.
Very easy, but interesting class. You will spend some all nighters in this class since there are projects which take up a lot of time, but other than that, go to lectures, and you will do fine on the tests. Complete the projects in full, and its a good class, and I actually learned a lot too. He made the class fun and interesting .
not fun, too many projects...final's easy, just study review.
He teaches you what you need to know. He understands that this class is not tuned for mathy people and makes changes accordingly. He makes the tests like his study guides so make you sure you study them. He does not want to trick you or anything, he just wants to make sure you know enough to pass the test. Projects are very easy.
The absolute worst teacher I have ever had. Every single lecture was a complete waste of time. Projects were pointless and expected to be done without guidance. He has students read very important texts then neglects to actually TEACH them. Considering he never actually teaches anything he is a hard grader.
I had Bruhl for 201 and 200 and he was a very helpful teacher. Since I'm a POLS major, a lot of his teachings carried on to my other classes which also made those classes clearer. I really enjoyed him and his personality. I think if you show up to class everyday and engage in conversation, he will recognize you are interested.
Great teacher. Easy class as long as you do the assignments. Really laid back guy and truly cares about his students. Take him if you can!
Easiest political science class I have ever taken. You just need to do the homework which is extremely easy. There are a couple of group projects and he has some extra credit to. class is a bit boring, but he is a cool guy.
He is a really cool guy. The class isn't hard just do the assignments.
Class is rather easy. He assigns projects and homework and doesnt really care when they're due, as along as its by the end of the semester. No tests or final.
He is a very good professor. He can make hard courses easy. He is also very helpful and kind. I like the book he assigns to us because it is very interesting although they are long. I love this professor!
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR!! If you're looking for an easy A, this is it! He's a sweet guy with corny jokes, he tries to make you laugh, there are no exams just "projects". In the summer we had a total of 11 projects, all were easy, in an 8 week period, I wasn't there for 2 weeks because of family vacation in the summer, BUT he really helps you out! <3
My Favorite Teacher!!! DO the Homework attend the lectures, and there it's virtually impossible not to get an A. He is a very easy grader, and is a good-down to earth lecturer. His HW, exams, and Projects are not very hard. He actually like class participation. Take every class you can with him, get easy A's, and actually learn something.
Most boring lectures I have ever attended. TA was arrogant, and tried to put a "fresh" spin on material to no avail. Also unprofessional with replying to email, and following up with students. I was disappointed as PS is an interest of mine.
He puts all his lectures on BBL but the discussions are mandatory and you have to turn in 2 chapters of "Reading Reflections" every week,,, write the 10 most important thing from each chapter and why its important.
Lectures are VERY dull, he posts all PP to Bb and only his discussion sections are mandatory. Pretty easy but you have to study for the 3 quizzes he gives out.
Such an easy A. If you are not a math major you will be FINE. No tests and easy hw assignments. We did not use textbook at all! Quirky guy too. Take his course if you want to get an A!
this class is so easy. I never went to lecture or read the book and got A's and B's on the quizzes (3 of them). you do write 2 papers..but they are easy...the weekly assignments are also a piece of cake...all you gotta do is summarize the chapters but I just wrote definitions of certain words from the end of each chapter. Easy A or B
This is the easiest class ever. No exams, no papers. Just some homework assignments that you can turn in WHENEVER you want, and three projects (beware though, one of them is a group project). He's a nice professor but the lecture is dry. He takes a long time to answer emails and he isn't very clear with directions.
Easy class. easy A or B. really easy class 3 quiz's no final and the last quiz was a take home. 2 papers. pretty simple course. though i have to warn you if you attend lecture, you will be board out of your mind. this guy is so dry. but overall he seems like a good guy
This class is NOT a pushover; however Bruhl tries very hard to help you understand the material. There are 11 homework assignments, 1 midterm and 1 final. The assignments can be redone for full credit once turned in and graded the first time, this allowed me to receive an A in the class because the mistakes I made were noted with feedback.
Class is super easy. Three midterms, the last one of which is a take home exam,a group project and really easy weekly homework which you can do by reading the chapter summary. Great class for Gen Ed requirements. The tests can be sort of hard if you don't read through the powerpoint notes, all of which are online.
awesome professor! take this class with him because it is so easy. if you dont get an a please withdraw from this university. he allows late assignments which is awesome! overall i recommend you take him with all the classes he teaches for easy A and gpa booster!
AMAZING teacher!!! beyond helpful and actually wants you to learn. The class is great. 2 tests and a few HW assignments. Knows his material. One of my favorite professors at UIC. I would highly recommend taking him.
Easiest POLS class at UIC. 1 homework each week, 1 exam, and a couple of class projects to boost your grade + EC worth 30 points! Professor Bruhl is absolutely awesome! He's the uncle you wish you had. So nice, funny, and made the material a breeze. (Don't need the book). Hand in work and you'll get an A.
will go over material to no end, accepts late work with no penalty, asks you do the work completely and correctly, but is flexible with deadlines, very cool guy, looked forward to his class, actually learned statistical analysis in the process.
I don't understand how people said this class was an easy A. I guess my TA was just super hard. I studied so hard and got D's and C's on the tests. It's not intensely difficult, but definitely NOT an easy A.
Lecture is extremely boring. You don't really need to attend it to pass. There are 4 quizzes, chapter reflections every week, 2 big projects, and most importantly NO FINAL! :) Overall, if you turn in all your work and put in some effort this class is easy.
Dr. Bruhl is really nice professor. The lectures are extremely boring and honestly I only went the first day to lecture. The TA is super helpful. He believes in quizzes, no exams which is awesome. Two projects that are fairly easy. If you read up with the chapters and study off slides, no need for lectures. Just go to discussions :)
Attending class is not mandatory but it is helpful. There are chapter reflections and quizzes regarding those chapters. Quizzes are hard if you don't really read or study. There are projects which your grade really revolves around but no tests. Take the class
This class was an easy statistics course. As long as you took notes and came to class everyday you will be fine. There are many hw assignments that you have to do and you can resumbit them for a 100.
Professor Bruhl is great! He keeps class light-hearted, and gives you every opportunity to succeed. The class involves a series of readings and short papers on the readings, a group project, and an individual survey project. Highly recommended.
Prof. Bruhl is very calm and clear. He is a smart man and is very patient with students. Really enjoyed his class, most of which you spend on a large group project.
There were about five books to read for the course. The material was really interesting, though. The assignments related to the readings are manageable. There is also a group survey project along with an individual survey project, both of which are manageable if you put in the effort. The professor really tries to make you think, which is great.
Awesome professor, may be my favorite at UIC. No tests but occasional homework assignments which he is super leanient about late work. I didn't buy the textbook and got by just fine
Simply awesome! I learned more in his class than any other college course. He does not overwhelm you with the workload and you actually have time to focus and learn everything very well. I would take any class that he is teaching again.
Very easy class. Just do the work which is mostly available online. Whole semester is spent doing a group project so get it done soon. Easy A. Only buy the big textbook.
says "okie doke" so you know he's a good guy doesnt take attendance but expects you to participate in class if you do show up presentations instead of tests and there was no final reading reflections due for every chapter but easy and he clearly outlines what you need for every assignment
There are 5, 8-10 page essays you have to write in the class on top of weekly homework assignment that you need the book for. There is so much unnecessary work he makes you do, and if you thought this class would be easy and you're taking much harder classes DO NOT TAKE! There is hours of homework every single week and you have to earn that A
Lectures are based on power points (uploaded to blackboard). There aren't any exams or quizzes, so lecture attendance is not mandatory. Discussion attendance is mandatory because each discussion is worth 5 points to your overall grade. Very simple reading reflections (5 important facts from lecture, and 5 from chapter) & three 8-10 page papers.
Amazing Professor. Just go talk to him if you need anything. This was my first A at UIC. So you can take from me that getting an A in this class is very attainable.
He's a good professor, a tad dry sometimes but he enjoys feedback. If you're in his class, be sure to nod. Also PLEASE laugh at his jokes, otherwise he just looks at you. There's a lot of assignments theres no real due date, there will be but he'll take it anytime. Try to make it the last class of the day, you'll get out early a lot.
I loved Bruhl, he's one of my favorite professors ever. Took attendance every day, but you could probs get away with skipping sometimes. Our class was from 3:30-4:45 and he let us out super early every time. Easy assignments throughout the semester, not strict with grades or due dates. Very helpful and nice. Laugh at his jokes and he'll be happy.
He's a difficult professor. Despite this, I really enjoyed my time in his lectures. While it was one of the most difficult classes, he's great. If you can work at it he's a fair grader.
grade consisted of 3 projects, reading assignments (which can be redone if you get a bad grade) and attendance. very well educated and understanding. be friends with him, you won't regret it.
God Bless Professor Bruhl! He is one of the best Professors I've had in UIC. The class relies on three important assignments that are not that hard. If there is any confusion Professor Bruhl always makes sure to ask if the assignment was clear enough. I honestly wish I could take his course again. He is the best!
Bruhl is awesome! He's such a chill teacher, and there are no tests and quizzes. There are 3 eight papers you have to write and you have to attend a town hall council meeting. I know it sounds a lot of work, but trust me, it is a very easy class. If you are a bad essay writer, then no worries. Most TAs allow redos. Absolutely recommend him
He's a great teacher. He does give a lot of hw but it's worth it. Super funny, carrying and fair grader. I'd totally take this class again
He is an awesome professor who truly is interesting and fun to be around. He does have many assignments over the semester but he gives you ample time to turn each one in. His TA's grade pretty harshly just as a heads up.
! He's super chill and super lenient. In Pols 101, there are no tests, quizzes, or final exam. 3 big papers and 2 town hall meetings. A lot of work, but so easy! T.A grades us, and they allow redoes and accept late works on all assignments. The class is perfect for bad test takers. ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND. I got a 101% in the class. #thatshoweasyitis
A lot of homework
Going to the lectures is not mandatory. I stopped going as he mainly repeats everything and reads off slides. All the work is on the syllabus . There are four main papers. Three of them are 8-10 pages with cited notations. I did them all a few days before the due date and got an A. Easy class, weekly summary on chapters. Don't procrastinate easyA
Awesome guy, and Easy A class. There are a lot of one or two page assignments based off of readings but you don't really have to read them to answer the questions. "Late work" is accepted until the last week with no penalty and you can re-do assignments you did poorly on. One semester-long group project and 2 smaller individual projects
POLS 101 WAS A JOKE! This class was so unorganized, which in my opinion I didn't mind because I was okay with skipping lecture. To pass the class all you have to do is show up to the discussion, get a good grade on the 4 papers that you get assigned on and do the chapter reflections, which I did not do but got a good grade considering I did nothing
Bruhl is awesome, POLS 101 is definitely a boring intro class. Grade is based on 4 papers and light reading Lectures are VERY optional for grading but interesting if you care and he'll give lots of extra credit to those who do. Bruhl is better in POLS 200 when he can discuss, I went to lectures for his insights. He cares about students who care.
Bruhl has the best attitude of any professor in the political science department. He cares about the subject and is always extremely attentive to student concerns on any assignment.
He is a very chill professor, does not really care about deadlines. Three projects and lots of readings. Lets you correct work to earn back points. Offers a few extra credit opportunities, make sure you take advantage of those. Attendance is a big part of your grade. Make sure you stay on top of your work to pass.
Overall is a nice guy but a very disorganized professor. Claims he doesn't assign due dates then days later sends you 3 assignments due the following week. Randomly will lecture in the most boring ways. He's flexible on turning in assignments, that's the only pro. This course is wayyyyy to much work. Also, you don't rarely homework back
Overall is a nice guy but a very disorganized professor. Claims he doesn't assign due dates then days later sends you 3 assignments due the following week. Randomly will lecture in the most boring ways. He's flexible on turning in assignments, that's the only pro. This course is wayyyyy to much work. Also, you rarely get homework back
It was a true honor to have taken Professor Bruhl. Professor Bruhl cares about his students and is flexible with the assignments he assigns. Professor Bruhl assigned a total of two projects and two extra credit opportunities. I recommend him and to take advantage of the extra credit opportunities. The midterm was short essays on topics covered.
He was an okay professor, nothing special. He wouldn't round my final grade of 89.46% to a 90%. I would have had straight A's.
The lectures are not mandatory. The discussion that is held once a week is mandatory though. I stopped going to the lectures after week 2 and was fine. The assignments that we were doing had nothing to do with the lecture, and you turned everything in at the discussion so you don't really need to go to lecture after week 2.
Failed the class but Bruhl is truly a god among men. 10/10 professor that teaches well.
One of the nicest and most helpful professors I've ever had. If your a poly-sci major and a freshman his pols 101 class is an easy transition from high school. He loves to crack corny jokes and has very good tips for your paper and assignments. He is always free to talk in his office about anything.
Great professor, super chill with homework policy. Only 3 projects one being a group project. Not too hard for the first half of the semester.
Really chill professor. Lectures aren't mandatory and the stuff you get graded on isn't really related to the lectures. if you do go to lecture though, he is very helpful if you need clarification on anything and cracks a few jokes here and there.
I thoroughly enjoyed Bruhl's class. His lectures were engaging and he fostered an excellent learning environment. While the homework is not difficult, there are a decent amount of assignments, as well as three projects, one being a group project.
Professor Bruhls class is really good. You learn a lot without the pressure of deadlines, and many of the assignments are very easy to understand. I recommend everyone takes his course, its a good one to balance out a more intense or stressful course. You will learn a lot about research and the methods used in studies as well.
Prof Bruhl is really sweet and keeps lectures short. My only problem with this class was the grading and textbook. If you got a few things wrong on an assignment he would give a zero but he allows resubmissions! The textbook didnt make much sense to me but everything else was okay.
This was an online gen-ed course for me, and somehow had more work assigned over my calculus 2 course. It was honestly ridiculous. I don't believe any of the 4 papers I completed were even read by the professor, but instead the TA. Textbook required, and Bruhl was easy to reach but there wasn't any reason to because he didn't teach anything.
The professor does care about the material he is teaching. He is willing to accept recorrected or late work at no cost. Attendance is also not graded. However, he is very particular about what he is looking for in his homework, and he is slow in grading. He is an ok teacher for a specific POLS requirement.
It wasn't my favorite class, but the assignments were straightforward. If you're majoring in political science, you'll likely need to take him. A few books and assignments to go along with them. Worth the time and effort!
he doesn't take attendance and does not care about due dates, which was really nice. He is a tough grader and has specific things he is looking for. even tho this is a political science class you will be doing math as some of the assignment have calculations. overall an easy class with no tests.
He is a tough grader, and he will lower your grade if you don't include some very specific details that he thought of (in open-ended questions). I also found him very opinionated, and he expects you to follow his opinions. Overall, I wasn't impressed with his lectures. He is very caring though.
He is very harsh grader. I got all my calculations correct and when I did spss which is drag and drop excel I had to use another function instead of the normal one because spss does not let you use < less than 10 hours as an example and he gave me 12/15 then 5/10. Because it did not match spss results. I even check with YouTube and google. HORRIBLE
Professor Bruhl is amazing. Such kind, gentle demeanor and genuinely wants us to learn. May God protect him
Listen, he is a tough grader, but he will let you redo assignments as many times as you want until you pass. Use his office hours; they're a godsend. Attendance is taken, but communicate with him if you're missing class; he is typically very generous with it. Also, listen to his random rambles; they are very insightful. also get ready to print!!!!!
