nice guy. good photographer. does not have mullet. math majors are creepy.
Good Teacher. Had him for calc I, II, III Does makes you work! Willing to help
BEST calc teacher i've had yet
Excellent! Extremely organized, clear, fair.
confusing, a lot of work, i think he's going through a mid life crisis
He was a pretty good teacher. Extremely clear and pretty helpful... ignoring me when i see him on campus, the jerk :)
clear and helpful. You have to work hard in his class. I think he's sexy.
Very good professor. Very easy to understand. If you are having problems with statistics and he's teaching the course I highly recommend him. The class is easy as long as you do the work and pay attention because he explains it so well!
Great guy. Teaches proff really really well. Not so good with aplication. I would recomend him to anyone taking Calc I, II, or III
GREAT TEACHER, fair grader, his notes are clear and understandable. Vary willing to give as much help as you need. I was in his office almost every other day for help. Great prof, I would recomend him for any math class :)
I thought he was great and he grades fair and is reasonably easy.
I couldn't pass calc with other math profs, but this one is great. Easy to understand and very helpful! Just do the homework.
Great guy. Even though I fail Calc 2 with him he held no grude and was an amazing help in calc 3. I think he does better with the higher level calcs but overall I would recomend him. Don't ever be afraid to ask him a question he is very helpful and fun
His test are hard but fair. His teaching style is clear and concise, doesn't make many mistakes which is definitely a plus! I recommend him but he is no cakewalk either.
Great professor. Just as long as you do and understand the homework the tests are easy. All material from tests comes strait from homework problems; he doesn't throw any curveballs. I would highly recommend him
a great professor. he always is willing to help during office hours, and is very good at explaining things if you don't understand. a great guy and funny too!
Who puts 10 points for a multiple choice question? 6 multiple choice questions on a test, and 4 problems. The dick doesn't even give credit if you get it wrong. Decent teaching, bad grading system, test materials are horrible.
Terrible teacher. And gives the hardest tests possible.
nice guy, hard tests
its math 365...expect it to be challenging. but Buchanan will help if you have questions...class consists of graded hw and tests...not to bad tho
explains everything, but goes fast. do the homework and ask him for help if you need it. He seems to comment on the repeat takers in a positive way, so if I had to take it again, I know he's be fair and patient.
Do not take this class unless you are willing to spend 5 hours a night on 10 stats problems. Absolutely ridiculous. The textbook is a piece of**** and is a terrible resource. Although I got good grades, it wasn't worth the anger and frustration that I felt.
He's a good guy. If you have any questions he will answer them. But be prepared to go VERY fast. If you can't keep up, def. get a tutor!!
Great guy. Clear, explains material very well in class, and if you need extra help just ask him. Keep up with the homework and study for exams. Math is not easy - I had to study a great deal for this class but at the same time enjoyed the challenge.
Terrible professor. Graded homeworks and test questions often had nothing to do with what we covered in class. Goes too fast, grades too hard. Made me reconsider being a math major.
Examples are of letters only, not numerical. His test questions were on things we never covered in class and his make up tests are 15 pages long. He picks the hardest problems to give on graded homework. Goes too fast, grades very hard. If something isnt right with the way he did a problem, he refuses to say its wrong. Nice guy, but horrible prof.
bob is no good. period. Tests are extremely long and he usually ends up taking the exam from half the class before they're done. has no mercy on grading. barely passing, and i'm a math major
Buchanan is a professor who enjoys challenging his students. He is always willing to help out. His tests are rather hard, however.
very tough tests....nice guy, but he strives to superior to his students. homework papers are impossible. if you want to be challenged, take him. otherwise, if you want to just get through the class, look somewhere else
Horrible professor, he finished the book, unlike all of the other calc 3 profs.Homework was impossile and 3/4 of the class wen't finished the test by the time the class was over. He is on double probation because he failed way to many students. DO NOT TAKE HIM! He thinks you are as smart as him and he thinks his class is easy when its the opposite.
Horrible prof. Tests and homeworks were impossible and never covered any material covered in class (often taken from physics books). Finished the whole calc book and didn't spend enough time teaching any of the concepts. Avoid this man at all costs.
do not take him unless you are an applied mathematics genius
Very hard class! The last couple tests were extremely difficult (I went from a B+ to an F in a couple of weeks.) He is a nice guy though, and was able to help me bring my grade up. He's the kind of prof. you need to communicate with in order to be helped.
His tests are really hard, and he doesn't always answer questions correctly.
I actually thought his class was pretty easy. I have NEVER gotten a B or let alone a C in any math class, EVER! I ended up with an A on the final... I would recommend taking it in the summer if you can, I am assuming it is more laid-back, has less students and you have more access to him.
good guy, but HORRIABLE professor. His lectures really aren't all that bad, but his exams are TRUE pain, even if you are excellent in math. He needs to understand that his exams are just too HARD!!! i have to retake this class after getting A's in Cal I and II. And i knew excatly what to do. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
This professor had it half right. His presentations for his lectures were amazing and easily viewable on the web if I were to miss a piece of the notes. Sadly his exams are unacceptable. One exam, nobody finished in the 55 minutes allotted. If you are stuck with this professor, fear the exams. I should've listened to others and not taken this prof!
I took Buchanan for Calc 1,2,3 and also a Mathematica class (MATH 312). The book is really good and he teaches pretty well. DO HOMEWORK! Study hard for his test- some of them were not bad, but he had at least one very hard/unfair test each year. He is friendly when you approach him to talk about how to solve a problem. Work hard for a B.
If i was not a transfer student and knew this professors rep i would have avoided him with all costs...his tests are crazy and very little graded homework.....avoid if you can
Buchanan is pretty good. Some of his tests would seem unfair, except that he archives his old tests, and has the answer keys posted - how often do you have this luxury? Take advantage, and you'll do well. Also, he's very organized, has his lectures in PDF form on his website, and will always clarify a problem if you ask him.
He is the typical over-excited math guy, but he is a good teacher. he basically holds your hand through everything, making the class either good or borring, but if you try you won't fail. he doesn't really collect homework, but what he assigns is reasonable and helpful if you choose to do it.
After all the horror stories I heard about his calc classes, I was amazed at how clear and easy this class was. However, grades need to rely on more than four godawful tests.
If you're not good at math you won't do well in his class. His test really are impossible to finish in the allotted time and you can guarantee to see the hardest problems from the book show up on his test. He's a nice guy, but I'd rather have an a*hole professor and actually pass the class. Dont take!!
Buchanan is truly a nice man. He reminds me of a cross between Al Gore and The Agent (Smith) from "The Matrix!" ONE PROBLEM: The weekly quizzes are "all or none" meaning if you get 1 thing wrong, you get a ZERO. NO credit for work done or partials. Fair Guy tho. Likes to wear Black on Friday! Go figure!
Fair but extremely hard. He teaches you the concepts but on the tests, has all the hardest questions. For example he will teach derivatives but instead of having regular derivative problems on the test they will have 4 trig function a natural log and 2 exponents.
Hard professor but he knows his stuff. Study, go to class, and ask questions and you will ace the course... If your good at math and slack off you will get at least a B. Gives great example tests (previous tests) to study before a test. A+ Guy!
He is easy to understand, but is hard. He teaches principles in class and does maybe 5 examples for each principle in class. The rest is up to you to apply the principles to actual problems in homework. His tests are straight up HARD. He chooses the absolute hardest questions he can find. Even if you understand most concepts it's hard to ace tests.
I dont understand why he is getting so many smiley faces. I have always recieved good grades in math... till him. I don't think he is clear in explaining things, and his tests are hard. I definitly say aviod him at all costs!!!
The rumors are true. Dr. Buchanan is a very hard professor, but he is one of the best I've had (and a really nice guy). He explains things very clearly, posts (his own) detailed solutions to ALL the homework online, and is ALWAYS available. I even emailed him after 9 one night before a test and he got back to me with a detailed and helpful answer.
Do the old tests! hes a great professor but it will be worl
Ive taken 3 math classes with him the first one i was forced then i started to choose him if you do his old tests youll be fine!! he is wonderful will always help! and do the homework even if it seems like alot but youll be happy when the test rolls around!
Does not compute. I swear this guy was a robot from his monotonous voice. He taught Calc 3 via power. Let me repeat that he attempted to teach Calc 3 via power point. How do you do teach math with power point. He skipped many steps in examples and took 30 minutes solving a problem while skipping steps.
Work smart, work hard. Robert Buchanan is a machine. If you can handle a tough workload, take him, and you will learn more then any other class that doesn't have Robert Buchanan. If you can't handle it, stay far, far away. You will not be graded on effort, only on results. Contrary to popular belief, he has a sense of humor.
do not take him if you have never taken calc before!! he teaches off of a powerpoint, so if you are more traditional do not take him! does not give extra credit or anything of the sort! puts the hardest questions possible on the exams! if you want to take him goodluck, but DON'T!
Dr. Buchanan was a nice professor, but thats about the only good thing I can say here. 90% of our grade came from tests, including the final. The third test he gave us was SUCKISH and the final was a DOOZY. I was lucky enough to get an A in his class, but BEWARE!
Extremely tough prof; the lowest grade on my transcript I have ever gotten, and i'm an honor student. extremely difficult tests, ppt lectures, and endless homework assignments that may or may not contain problems relevent to what happens in class. He definitely challenges how you think, but he is merciless when he grades. Good luck if you have him.
A few negatives: Teaches from powerpoint, friendliness very low, exam problems are sometimes harder than ones from the book. I feel he knows his stuff but does a poor job of being a teacher. He's one of those teachers that does not seem to be on your side, if you know what I mean. Do not take him unless absolutely necessary!
For a 100 level class this was a ridiculously hard teacher. His work load is do-able if it's the only class you're taking. DO THE HW. His tests are impossible. For lessons, he speaks in math terms, making it difficult to follow. His class stats show that 50% of his students fail. He is perfectly okay with everyone failing. STAY FAR AWAY.
He is never at his office hours and does not explain things well. He also does not show you step by step how to do problems he just does them and expects you to know how to do it
Power point galore. Do the homework, show up to class, and study for at least 3 days and you should do fine on the tests as well as pass with a good grade.
Amazing teacher. I've taken him multiple times. He is so clear and well organized it's great. Do the old tests and don't be afraid to go to his office hours. He is very helpful and really cool.
ANALYSIS; Dr Buchanan is a phenomenal professor; very clear, concise and helpful. Just dont fall behind on the mymathlab homework because it will come back to haunt you. He is always at his office hours and will once a week stay an hour after class to help out anyone who is falling behind and wants extra practice. Very approachable & understanding.
Buchanan does not adequately prepare you for tests in class. He ignored my attempt to offer him advice on teaching to improve the class and basically blew me off. Does not seem to care much about his students or the grades they get in class, no curves or extra credit. teaches purely on power point and goes really fast. Do not take him as a prof
Although he might be an okay professor for financial classes, DO NOT take him for Calc 1. The practice tests do not prepare you for the test, and the tests are very challenging. Gives you the google definition for all terms, and does not go into any more detail than that. Worried I will not end up passing the class.
If you want to learn math on PowerPoint, he is your guy. I personally don't want to because I feel some stuff is rushed through. The examples he gives are long and hard to copy down and look at while he is lecturing. The pace is a bit much for me and there is a fair amount of homework. The tests are fair. The textbook is horrible.
One of the best professors at Millersville!! his power point lectures can be hard to get. But, if you go to his office hours, everything will start to make sense. I went to his office every other day (sometimes outside of his office hours ) and he did't mind at all. he is very nice and caring professor. He always had smile on his face. DO TAKE HIM
This guy is a real homie. One of the nicest, smartest dudes I've ever met, but his class is the hardest class that I've ever taken. I hate statistics with a burning passion but Prof. Buchanan made it bearable. The tests were also absolutely dreadful, but the way this G grades them is that if you show effort he'll slide you potty points.
Very nice and caring guy. Not so much a great professor. He teaches on power points and doesn't do many hands on work like worksheets and such. The tests are nothing like the homework. His examples he gives in class are what you need to pay attention to. Minitab assignments are pointless for learning but good grade boosters.
By far the worst math professor/teacher I have EVER had. Grades very harshly, gives no extra credit, and grades homework based on correctness NOT completeness. Oh, by the way the homework is multiple choice. Expect to spend 2+ hours per homework assignment, which are due 2-3 times per week.
Dr. Buchanan is a very intelligent man and it shows. If you pay attention, listen, do your homework, and ask questions you will do fine. A lot of people dislike his heavy use of slides, which can make the class dry at times. Don't be afraid to ask questions or to ask for clarification, he is a very understanding and fair professor.
I was warned that Dr. Buchanan is very tough; I found him to be reasonable. His example problems in class and review questions are great practice for his exams. The workload is very manageable, and I thought he was forgiving with the homework. He even explained the real-world applications of the material, which is often missing from math lectures.
I've had him for two semesters now. He is a very intelligent man and does expect you to know more theories and ideas than usual but he is reasonable. While they were very difficult classes with how they were set up, he is very helpful when you reach out and appreciates effort.
This class isn't as difficult as another class I had with Buchanan in the past. Overall pay attention and do the homeworks and you'll do fine. Also ask questions if you get stuck on things he is happy to answer them. Only not so great thing is the material got kind of boring and repetitive towards the end, and it became harder to pay attention.
Took this class online and it's probably the easiest class I've ever had to take. Weekly homework which wasn't too hard and the tests had multiple attempts so it was pretty much impossible to fail. His lectures can be slow but he really just wants you to understand the material.
After talking with peers who took different professors for the same course, Dr. Buchanan is tougher with exam problems and info students are expected to learn. He is a fair grader on tests and is good with partial credit, and the homework is not excessive. Will answer questions/go over problems if there's confusion so ask questions in class!
I liked Dr. Buchanan. He was a bit dry during lectures, but very nice and fashionable too! I think his exams were fairly understandable, but I can understand why others would have difficulty with the exams. Sometimes he would have trouble "dumbing" down concepts for those who didn't understand. It's not hard to pass his class, just do the homework.
This professor creates boring PowerPoints and reads off of them in a completely monitone voice. Do not come to class if you're tired because you will fall asleep. However, he is willing to meet outside of class to help with any questions you have. But if you miss a class, you will fall so far behind, because he never reviews the material.
All grades are based on the homework (graded by correctness not completion), the three tests, and the final exam is worth 25% of your grade. If you don't already know how to do stats, this class WILL NOT teach you. Willing to meet outside of class but feels unapproachable.
