absolutely awesome teacher. Is straight to the point. Keeps you awake if you have an early class. do the homework!
He is a great teacher. His lectures are not mandatory but I recommend going to them. He makes the class interesting and he's funny. The class itself was extremely easy. Homework is optional but tests are easier when you do the homework.
he is an amazing teacher. makes class fun and worth while going. gives a practice exam before exams which helps. if you do your homework it's not too bad. it sucks he wont be able to teach at UB anymore because of the budget. this is the kinda guy they need to keep. if anyone else has a chance to take him..DO I, or you might suffer not understandin
Amazing professor! Funny, entertaining, and does an amazing job teaching a tedious subject. He will definitely make your day. He is definitely not here to make your life in college a living hell, I guarantee that. You will learn a lot and enjoy every bit of his lecture !
Awesome teacher! Probably the best math teacher I've ever had and ever will have. He explains all of the required material very well and keeps you awake by dropping hilarious jokes every few minutes. Go to lecture and do the optional homework problems for practice and you'll do great in this class.
Hilarious and also a great teacher mixed into one. It's hard to make math interesting but he is so funny that it makes the learning easier. Excellent teacher.
Probably the best professor i've ever had. He truly wants you to do well in his class. Lectures are very straight forward and easy to follow. He'll give you practice tests before every test that are the same type of questions on the real tests for the most part, with different numbers. Plus, he is hilarious! Take his class!!
Professor Busch is THE funniest guy ever. He start a problem with a story that he literally makes up off the top of his head and tells it for 20 minutes. You'll get so absorbed into the story, then he'll relate it to the problem! Not only is he hilarious but he really does do an excellent job of teaching.
HILARIOUS. Great teacher as well and will help you if you need it. Also provides many stories that will both entertain you and you will learn something new.
AMAZING. Never met someone as hilarious as this man! You'll love the class even if you hate math, like me :)
Without a doubt the best professor I've ever had. Always keeps you interested in class with jokes, hilarious stories, and somehow making the most boring problems interesting. Tests are not bad at all if you go to recitation and study. Can't say enough good things about him. TAKE HIM FOR CALC 121 IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!!!!
Honestly, he was by far my fav teacher in University! I believe math to be one of the most boring subjects but somehow this prof made it anything but. I swear he was a comedian in another life! He is absolutely amazing and if you have the opportunity to have him as a teacher, you're lucky!
I was dreading taking Calc 121 this semester, until the first day of class where I was almsot on the floor laughing. This guy is amazing, he teaches everything in detail and is flat out hilarious in class. Exams aren't bad, and he is extremely helpful in office hours. Take him, you won't be disappointed!!
Its really hard not to sound chiche but this guy somehow manages to make my gut hurt from laughing and teach us derivatives in 20 minutes. Greatest class ive ever been in, not just greatest math but greatest anything. As he would say "you go home sell ur house and live in a box if you can get that class"
This man's class is what caused me to change my major to math. He teaches a great class and is there to help. Keeps his lectures light to allow for people to not get bored and ask questions. If you get him as a teacher consider yourself lucky.
Great teacher! Made it worth getting up at 8am to go to class. A very funny guy which makes class entertaining and not boring. If you do the optional homework your guaranteed an A. The notes he gives though are good enough to get you an A. You need to take him if you can, will make math interesting.
Math 142 is a lot tougher than 141, but this guy made this class one of the best ever. His jokes are hilarious, AND he has great teaching methods. He hates white boards. Probably the best teacher I ever had.
As for a math teacher, he's your guy. Makes the class intersting with his conspiracy theories and jokes and welcomes questions outside of class. Teaches the material not only the formulas. Great guy overall, don't let the moustache put you off.
This is literally the only class that I didn't miss one lecture in the entire spring semester, and that says alot. One of the best math teachers I've ever had, and agreeing with other comments, this guy is HILARIOUS. If you can get into his class, thank whatever god or higher power you believe in, because they love you.
Professor Busch is an AWESOME Calculus instructor! Although i'm taking this class 8am in the morning, but every penny is worth the money. This professor makes the class very interest by using his sense of humor to explain problems therefore students can remember them well. 3 Exams and no final! Exams are short and VERY EASY! It's impossible to fail
He is one of the best math teachers i have even had. He is funny and his test are straight forward. The math im in isn't hard but he makes the class fun. I have him at 8 am and i actually can stay awake. I would highly recommend him!
Busch is that dude. He goes hard in the gym too! He is hilarious, but it can sometimes be difficult to alternate between his hilarious jokes and tales and calculus. He is clear and as long as you do the homework you should at least get a B.
He considers students first.
Absolutely excellent professor. Make sure to do all of the homework in preparation for the exam if you want an A, doing it multiple times over practically guarantees that you will. Class isn't mandatory, but is useful as he explains concepts relatively easy to understand. I wish there were more professors that were like him.
I didn't actually think he was that funny, but I didn't register for open mic night, I registered for a calculus class, and he is the George Carlin of calc instructors. Teaches in a clear, concise, and logical style. Exams aren't too hard, but there is no other grade "padding" (ie. HW/quizzes)- something to consider if you don't test well.
Literally, one of the best teachers at UB! He's super nice and funny and his exams are fair if you do all the homework. And he genuinely cares about his students doing well, which is a rare quality for UB professor. Take him if you can! He's the sweetest, funniest and nicest professor you'll ever get!
Really cool guy. Loves to joke around and is a genuine goof ball! He tells you the first day "If you can do the HW, you'll ace every exam" and hes right. Go to class, do the hw, get help from the excellent TA's and ace those exams!
He straight up tells you: Do the homework and you get an A, and he's absolutely correct. He's funny, with tons of stories that will entertain you. I actually managed to stay awake during a 1.5 hour 8AM class, which is an incredible achievement for a college student. MTH142 is known as being really hard, but he makes it easy. Take him if you can!
Rob Busch is the man, took a very difficult subject and made it seem so easy every time. easily best teacher ive had at UB
If you have the chance to take any of his classes, DO it. Best Calc teacher at UB, very down to earth, clear and eager to help. Extremely nice guy and absolutely hilarious.
TAKE THIS CLASS. Best Calc Professor I could have asked for. Very funny professor who keeps always keeps class interesting and is full of great stores. Tests are easy as long as you do the homework.
Best Calc teacher ever! He's funny and he will keep you awake. Ask him questions and he will answer them. Homework is not checked. No final. Four exams.
Amazing professor. Makes calc 2 easy. Teaches the material extremely well and allows a cheat sheet on exams. His exams are also very fair, if you do the problems he assigns you'll get an A
Had him for Calc 121 and 122. Wish I was taking more of his classes. He's really funny, Material is clearly taught, gives an old exam out before you have your exam. Very straight forward.
Busch is literally the man. He's hilarious and always has the entire room laughing throughout lectures. The recitation/lab is optional to go to. 4 tests make up the grade. Doesn't give homework or quizzes. If you don't take him for calc 121/141/122/142 please rethink your life. Such an easy class.
funniest and most clear math teacher I have ever had.
Keeps lectures interesting, makes sure everyone understands the material, lots of in-class examples of basic calculus problems. Favorite professor by far!
An awesome professor. I was scared to take Calculus 2 and he did scare me a little at the beginning but it turned out, this class was very easy. I wish he also taught me Calculus 3 and Intro to DQ
Rob Busch isn't a legend. He is THE legend. Rob can teach all the course material so that everyone understands it the first time and he does so in less than half the time any other professor could. That gives him enough time to tell hilarious jokes that consistently keep us dying laughing. I just got out of lecture he killed it today. Rob=God
His materials are very easy to understand just go to class and take good notes.
Best professor at UB! Do whatever you can to take him. I had this class at 8 a.m. and i did not even mind waking up for it. He made the class fun with all his jokes but still taught the material so clearly. The class consisted of 4 tests and that's all that is mandatory
Legend/saint
One of the Best Calc professors I have ever had he takes time to make sure you know the material and makes class interesting if you do the homework and show up then you will do well in his class.
Best. Professor. Ever. Period. Lectures are amazingly well done and funny, you will never want to miss them, even though they're not mandatory. Doing the homework will guarantee an A in the exams. If you have to sell your family to take a class with this God, DO IT!!
Greatest professor ever. Hands down. Funniest professor I've ever had and clearly explains the material, which makes it easy to understand and you want to be in class because you never know what crazy thing he might do that day. Grade is based off of 4 tests, minimum to no curve. If you have the chance TAKE AS MANY MATH CLASSES WITH ROB AS POSSIBLE
GREAT professor. Super helpful, hilarious, and very approachable. He teaches the material thoroughly and in a way that's easy to understand. You can tell he actually loves his job. If he's a choice for you, take him!!!
he's a nice professor. easy to understand and doesn't rush at all. best professor
DO NOT TAKE HIM, he is funny and the class is easy until his exams come and they are completely impossible and look nothing like the practice exams he gives.
Great at explaining. If you do the home works and practice exams his tests will be easy. They are almost identical. Great professor. Funny and engaging.
I did not click the register button fast enough so I couldn't get him, but what I do is I go to his lecture regularly and still learn from him. My official professor is HORRIBLE. I learn everything from Rob. He made me fell in love with math all over again lol. Take him, and you'll learn not just to pass your tests, but you'll learn MATH.
Like everyone else has said, you absolutely must take any class he teaches, you will never get an easier A AND finish the class completely understanding the material.
Very enthusiastic teacher, would recommend to anyone who has to take CalcII..
Busch is the man. I took his class thinking it would be a prof with an easy A. It's not an easy A but it's very possible. Even if you don't get an A, you'll actually learn the material quite well and on top of that you'll have the best experience in a math class possible here at UB. Busch is funny, kind, awesome, and just the best around.
Freaking legend. Fantastically clear and hilarious lectures, and I hate math. Goes on long tangents, but not at your education's expense. Sample exams very similar to actual exams. Listen to me. Take Rob Busch's class if you can. But don't text in his class. Just don't do it. Unless you like being publicly humiliated. Then yeah, text in his class.
he is the man, he is hilarious and actually makes me enjoy going to his class, he isnt on UB learns so if you miss a class have to get the notes from someone that was there, no quizzes, recitation optional, hw optional but is exactly what is on the exam so do it, practice exam same type and level as the actual exam, hilarious in class MUST TAKE
He is an awesome teacher, and I don't think I would have gotten through 141 without him. Wish I could have had him for 142 though. His classes fill up quick, so get him while you can!
Took mth 121 with him and I would definitely take 122 with him, if he was teaching. Funny lectures that keep you engaged, learning without realizing you actually are, and having optional homework as a back-up to help you study for quizzes that are hardly ever given. Along with optional attendance & no finals , just perfection :-)
Rob is the best professor I have ever had. He is extremely funny and great at explaining some complex topics. He is very approachable if you ever need help with homework questions. This is by no means an easy class but Rob makes this class significantly better. If I could take every math class at UB with Rob, I would.
Rob Busch is the man. He's really helpful and he actually remembered who I was after only approaching him a couple times. Take his class, you won't regret it.
I really liked this professor. I am not a big fan of math, but he made this class a lot more tolerable. He has a unique way of teaching and has strategies to solve problems that other teachers don't use. He is also very sarcastic and can keep you laughing, a nice break from the stresses of everyday college life.
He really knows how to make a tough course easy and if you show up to lecture he is a great help and makes the material actually entertaining with comedy and stories throughout. He is one of the best math professors you could ask for.
Best math professor at UB. Clearly explains everything and actually cares about you doing well in the class. HATES CELL PHONES- do not use it in class or he makes a fool out of you. However, he is super nice and really just wants everyone to do well. Makes math easy to understand.
Rob Busch is just really, really excellent. Presents ideas very clearly, tells hilarious stories, and assigns homework that correlates well to the tests. He makes lectures, recitation, and homework optional, which is great. Can't wait for Calc 2 with him next semester!
ROBERT BUSCH IS A SUPERSTAR. If you mess on one test, you can't get an A. No homework or anything to boost your grade up. However, funniest and clearest professor ever. If you do a lot of practice, you should be fine. Great story teller.
Amazing teacher! very reasonable and understanding. really knows how to explain everything.. practice tests are identical to real exams
HWs don't need to be handed in. Gives & goes over review sheets thoroughly. Exams Entire Grade. He is a very considerate and funny guy. Even on the snowy days when you couldn't attend class, he would sent out emails of examples he did on the board to all his students. Lectures straight to the point & are very entertaining.
Rob is one of the best teachers I've had. He's got a unique personality that might not be for everyone, a little abrasive, but he earns the respect of students by respecting the students themselves. Lectures are very clear, as well as amusing. I enjoyed this class even if it was 9am in the middle of winter
One of the best lecturers and professors to have at UB. Funny guy, makes math seem more entertaining, and he gives you an old exam to study off of. Take good notes from what he writes on the board. Also, he's got the sweater collection of a God.
This guy is awesome, Calc 2 is pretty complicated for me and this guy is able to explain and simplify things extremely well. This guy should teach teachers HOW to teach bc he has it figured out. Very personable and fun to listen to. I would take this class again just to attend his lectures. Do the work and you will get an A that simple.
Fantastically funny man. Keeps me going to class.
Awesome, this is one amazing teacher. Simplifies things really well especially considering he's teaching Calc2. I'm considering taking Calc3 just because he teaches it. Very understanding and witty. Very smart, the best teacher Ive had at UB.
Best teacher I've had in a long time. Very funny, makes the material easier to visualize. 4 tests, each worth 25% of your grade so the stakes are high. If you pound out the non-graded homeworks you'll build good foundation for your test grades. Answers questions thoroughly. Hates electronics in class. Don't try it -- you'll get caught. Guaranteed.
Absolute lad.
The man, the myth, the legend Rob Busch. Clear lecturer who knows his stuff. I feel the best way to describe him is a real life Ron Swanson. Also don't mess with his chalk. A kid took all his chalk one day and long story short that kid took his final test on the chalkboard in front of whoever wanted to watch. A must-have professor.
Funniest teacher i had my fresh year. Always keeps the class alive and will make you laugh. THERE ARE ONLY 4 TESTS THE WHOLE SEMESTER AND NONE GET DROPPED. So if you mess up on one your toast. I dropped from an A to a B because of one test, STUDY and do ALL the homework. His tests are really simple. Only 10 questions and just like the practice exam
The homework sets are long, but 34 questions from his tests are from the homework with a couple of changed numbers. If you get the homework problems you'll ace the tests (which is all your grade is based on). He is approachable, if you need help ask! He is an amazing teacher, the class is hard but not impossible and he is very entertaining.
ATTENDANCE MANDATORY FOR HE EXPLAINS THE LECTURE REALLY WELL
100% the absolute best professor I have ever had in my three years of school so far. Such a pleasure to have this man as my teacher. I had him for my summer MTH 121, 8 am class. I looked forward to an 8am calc class because he was honestly such an amazing lecturer. He makes things crystal clear, if you put any effort, you will do well. 1010!!!!!!!
Best prof at UB
Lectures are clear and put into terms students can understand (without being condescending). Hilarious, and makes class fly by. Gives homework out of the textbook frequently, though it was never required (though it is incredibly helpful). Happy to make time to help you out if you need it. one of the best teachers i've ever had in my entire life.
He is the funniest teacher ive ever had. And he is always able to make what were doing in class seem easy through analogies and examples
He's very clear and explains everything fully making sure everyone understands the material. He's also very funny and easygoing. It doesnt matter if you come in late as long as its not a test day. never take out your phone in his class. its the only thing hes not chill about.
Iv'e never met someone who can go from teaching calculus to telling the most outrageous/funny story ever(off the top of his head) and then miraculously go right back into calculus. Easily the funniest/best calculus teacher I've ever had.
teaches material better than any other teacher i had. lectures are not required but i attended anyway just because of the entertainment. 4 tests, non-cumulative. take this professor if you can, wont regret it. dont really need a textbook, i did well without it. if you do use it, easy A
He is such a great teacher. Absolutely hilarious and you can tell he really just wants his students to do well. Also, he's super understanding of the fact that most of the kids in this class are in a lot of other challenging classes, and he accommodates for exams in those other classes. Best teacher ever!
Rob is the man! He loves to tell jokes(which are actually funny) and made calc not seem like a chore. Recitation is optional, homework is optional and tests are like the optional homework. What ISN'T there to like about this guy. If you have the opportunity to take any calc class with him please do and (for me at least) the class was an easy A.
rob is absolutely the best math teacher there is. his lectures are both fun and easy to understand.
Rob Busch was by far the best professor I've had at UB. If you attend class and do the homework, you should be able to do well on the exams. Most test problems directly relate to the homework problems he assigns. Is one of the most hilarious professors and is completely skilled at teaching the material in a way that is easy to understand.
he is god. best lectures and he is just the best. did i mention that he was the best well if i didn't he is. oh yea and he's a god.
Great man, very clear and really seems to understand the student's perspective. The only problem is that all he grades are 4 tests worth 25% each, which is dangerous but if you are good at taking tests than he is the best.
I had Rob for MTH141 and MTH142, he is absolutely amazing. If you are able to get into one of his classes, you'd be stupid not to take him. Grade is based on 4 exams, homework is never checked but is the key to success on the exams!! Super willing to help and doesn't teach you things you don't need, his exams are not easy but are fair
Overrated on this website. Professor is comedic during lectures, but his class isn't easy. If you aren't a strong math person, you won't be learning any basics. New topic each day. Fast paced class.
Rob Busch is definitely everything that people has described as, a charismatic character, lovable, and funny. HOWEVER, his lectures and his class is another topic. Yes, he does assign homework and it's optional which is great (but you should do it for practice). His tests are UNFORGIVING, and harshly graded.
Rob Busch is the best professor I've had so far at UB. The course was difficult (Calc 2), but that's only because the course material isn't a cakewalk. However, Rob Busch is clear-cut and to the point when it comes to it. He makes things easy to understand, and always has a funny story to tell. If you're able to, take any math course with him!
Here my opinion on Rob. First of all, he is a amazing lecturer, he explains things crystal clear. But he makes me bit hesitant asking for help. Four exams, each 25%, sometime the questions are tricky. i wish he did more examples in class.
Exam questions are extremely unrelated to the homework questions; it's as if you're taking 2 classes. The grading TAs are harsh and inconsistent at best. He does not fix mistakes made by the graders because he says the class "doesn't prepare." I don't recommend taking.
I just finished my freshman year and Rob Busch was by far the best professor I had. Probably among the top 5 greatest teachers I've had. He communicates the material very well and grades fairly. Overall I had no problems with his class.
I took MTH 121 over the summer with him and he was amazing. He overheard me asking another student if I could take a picture of their textbook for the hw problems and he came over and handed me his copy of the text. He somehow made calculus fun and interesting. I wish all teachers had his passion. Best professor I've ever had.
Rob Busch is a true legend. I've never had a professor with so much personality. He constantly made jokes and told stories and still managed to teach everything thoroughly. Your grade is only based on tests. DO THE HOMEWORK, it's not mandatory but you will be lost on the tests if you don't. I failed the 1st test of 4, but worked hard and got an A.
By far one of the best professors at UB! He shocked me with his level of caring, not only about grades, but about the students themselves. Hilarious lectures, and a neverending array of great stories, yet he still managed to teach all the material thouroughly and clearly. Take him if you get the chance!
GREAT professor! He makes class interesting but also covers a lot of material. He is straight forward with his tests, all questions are very similar to homework questions, so surprises. They are tough, but fair tests. No quizzes in recitation and homework is ungraded but necessary to pass.
Even though I learned I hate math, Rob made this class great. Your grade is only test grades, but if you do the assigned (but not graded) homework and pay attention in lecture you will be fine.
Rob Busch is an great prof. He takes the time to go through all of the problems that you need to know, doesn't make them difficult, & he only teaches you what you need to know for the exam. Homework & attendance isn't mandatory, but it helps so much for the exam. Easy to talk to in office hours. Class is based on 4 exams, no final. Textbook for hw.
Rob is hilarious truly cares about his students. Explains everything clearly and is always willing to answer questions.
Awesome professors. I got nothing else to say.
Homework isn't necessary, but I highly recommend you do it. Took calc in high school, so most of course was review. Only thing you are graded on are the 4 tests, so make sure you don't screw up terribly on any. Lectures are as entertaining as they are helpful, so you should attend. Overall, great experience in this class. Rob is awesome.
Weird sense of humor. Do homework and you'll be fine for tests. Recitation not mandatory. Class moves very slowly
Rob Busch is probably the best professor at UB. He is absolutely hilarious and teaches the class very well. He will not skip over anything in class, if you have a question, he will fully address it. Some people don't like his sense of humor but most find it helps to keep the class from getting boring. Everyone should have Rob Busch once.
Rob is a great guy. Had him for 141 as well and 142 with him was the first class I signed up for. Makes a lot of jokes, some people take them too seriously, that's their own fault. He's funny but also serious and definitely knows what he's doing. Makes things really clear and easy to understand. Take as many classes with him as possible.
Great math professor! He's hilarious and makes class enjoyable!
Great professor. Teaches well. Funny guy. Beware of using cellphones in his class though. That triggers him. Most savage teacher ever and will roast you in front of the whole class. Only downside is that grades are solely dependent on exams. No curve. He gives HW but it's to help with the exam, not for credit. Major key to passing: do the homework!
He's so overhyped. I like when professors do many examples in class so that it would be easier for me to do the homework and understand. However, he would waste so much class time telling irrelevant stories, especially in the beginning of the semester. That's why the class average for the 1st exam was so low I'm guessing. Thankfully I studied hard.
Rob as a person is the best. Hilarious lectures, mostly clear in his teaching methods, just overall funny guy. However, as a professor, he's a little iffy. The only grades are 4 exams; no graded homework, no quizzes, etc, which seems nice but if you mess up one exam, you're kind of screwed. No curve. Do the homework, even though it's not required
You are only graded by 4 exams and thats it. I would not recommend this professor at all, the exams have 4 questions in total, 2 easy questions and 2 hard questions so getting an A is impossible. Rob doesn't post anything online so if you miss a lecture you have to get notes from someone in the class. He is only rated highly because of MTH141.
DON'T BE FOOLED. He's a phenomenal professor - you'll walk out of class confident in the topic you've learned due to the way he uses humor and a slow pace to help understand the material. But be prepared! His solely 4 graded exams are not like the classwork or homework. He'll make sure to throw trick questions in there to stumble you.
This is my 3rd semester taking Rob: Calc 1, 2 and 3. He doesn't go into deep detail about the theorems, he prefers to learn via practice problems. Great guy and as long as you give him undivided attention you won't have a problem. Gives 4 exams that are tough, but they mimic the style of problems he gives for homework. The exams are the only grade.
Rob Busch explains material in a really easy way while making lectures absolutely hilarious. Always willing to answer questions and meet with students individually to discuss math questions or otherwise. Tests are very reasonable and are very similar to homework questions. Very reasonable grader, will work with class to come up with test dates.
Just had my last class with Rob today. By far the best teacher for anything I have ever had. Hilarious, kind, and purely a genius. Always has an answer for your questions, and frequently uses anecdotes like "going down to Wegman's" to explain high level concepts. Wish I could take more of his classes, I could listen to his lectures for fun.
Funniest prof. I've ever had in 10 semesters that I have attended UB. That being said, his class is also one of the toughest that I have ever taken. Grade is based on 1 ez and 3 difficult exams. My only complaint is that I felt his exams ask questions not suited for the time given. His ability to teach the final chapter however, is phenomenal.
Class was a blast. Rob Busch makes calculus 3 enjoyable and easy to understand. Lots of in-class examples to avoid getting too heavy on the theorems. Definitely recommend.
Took his calc 2 for engineers class. He is an amazing professor, and definitely knows what he is talking about. I would definitely suggest going to class. Your grade is based on the grade you receive on your tests only and there are only 4 tests. He keeps the mood light in class and gives you formula sheets and practice exams for tests.
took him for mth 141 and it was the hardest class I ever took in my life. I studied for 10 hours every day and I still was unable to pass with a good grade. His grading is extremely hash with it being 100% exams which is difficult for test takers.
I feel like people rate him highly due to his jokes. Gives homeworks, but doesn't check. All I can say is that if you do take him, tackle the problems ASAP before exam comes. He loves to roast. He encourages students to ask him questions, but you're gonna get roasted anyways and may or may not get your answers.
A terrific professor, one of the best. His lectures are priceless so even though you don't have to show up to a single one, it's in your best interest, and he usually makes it well worth your while. A very intelligent man, but parses through the material at a fair and understandable level for all students. Excellent and straight forward test prep.
An amazing prof. There are 4 exams each weighing 25% of the total grade. The exam are very easy as long as you do the homework problems. They are very useful while studying the exams. There are no quizzes as well. He makes the class interesting unlike other professor. I will be taking him for MTH241 as well.
"I get paid to answer questions." -R. Busch himself And this kind prof. does a good job of it. 4 tests are your entire grade, but do the HW and get help, he'll definitely make it worthwhile with some of the best math jokes and stories you will ever hear, all while being able to teach the explain the content really well and answering the questions.
Highly recommend him as a professor for intro level calculus (I'm taking MTH 141 and I just signed up for MTH 142 with him). His lecture are the jam, always a laugh and a great means to the learn the material (the energy keeps you awake through the actual calculus). Lecture based, only 4 okay test to be graded on, no homework or quizzes.
Amazingg I just had him for 141 this man is a legend
Best teacher I have ever had. The grade is determined by 4 test grades, but the tests are all reasonable and much easier than the problems he gives in class and practice. There is no mandatory HW.
Rob is great! his lectures are quick but clear, he is very fair on when test dates are and he really prepares you for the test, if you dont understand something all you have to do is a couple homework questions to review and you should be fine!
Rob is super funny, kept me interested and engaged the whole time. For me personally, the class was far too difficult because i wasn't at that level, but it had nothing to do with him. Great teacher, very helpful, answers questions in detail, easy to talk to after class. I hate math but still liked going to his classes so that says something!
I enjoyed taking Rob's class, however, beware of a few things. First, unless you know the material, attending class is a must or you will be completely lost. Second, he does not use UBlearns or recorded lectures. Lastly, test are 100% of your grade. If you attend class and pay attention, you will do fine. Rob is hilarious and a great person.
Rob is one of the best professors. His lectures are so fun that you just don't want to skip class. Attendance and homework not mandatory. If you show up to the class and do the hw, you will surely do well on his exams. Your final grade is based on 4 exams that you take throughout the semester and those exams are fairly easy. He is a legend.
Robert Busch is an excellent professor. If you show up to class and pay attention there's no way you shouldn't be able to pass the class with B or higher. Explanation is top notch.
Great professor gives great lectures which helps make 8am classes tolerable
Rob is a god
This man is a legend.
His class is graded by 4 exams that are fairly easy. I hate math but he made the topic tolerable. I love Rob Busch
Rob was overall a good professor, not a great one. It seemed like he was more concerned with making jokes than teaching the material. The lectures seemed very disjointed, as he would sometimes take 5 minute breaks just to tell a joke or story. Also, he would talk during tests which made it very hard to focus. However, he did care for his students.
Teaches relatively well. However, there are no graded homeworks or quizzes. Your grade is solely based on 4 exam scores which I is why I would not personally take him again. A real character. Class is always entertaining. If you're a good test taker you will do fine. The hardest class I've taken. Just pass the class and get out of there.
Real easy-going, down-to-earth professor. Made topics very clear. Homeworks aren't graded but keep up on them anyways. Grade is dependent on 4 exams so I wouldn't recommend him if you're a bad test-taker. His 9 am classes were worth getting up early for.
I failed his class miserably, but Rob is an amazing teacher and person, I just was not ready for calc 2.
Rob Busch is very funny and gives amazing lectures. However you are only graded by 4 tests, and his grading criteria is not very clear. He is willing to help, and his lectures are more practical than theoretical. That said he can be sarcastic and occasionally rude. Be prepared to do a lot of work outside class if you want to do well.
Professor Busch is absolutely one of my all time favorite professors; he explains the material in the simplest way possible and is easy to follow. He hands out practice/past exams a week or two before every exam and makes sure to go over them and the tests are not far much different. The text books give excellent practice problems similar to test
ROB THE GOD. BEST CALC PROFESSOR WORLD.
Rob is the best teacher I have had throughout my acedemic career. He makes material very easy to understand and his proccess for the class is very nice. He gives very little homeowrk and it is not mandaory but I highyly rcommend you do it. His test are very straight forward and homework based. He is the best teacher at UB and a great guy.
Rob is the best. He makes lecture entertaining with his humor, but he also does a great job of covering the material and will answer any questions. He gives homework (that I suggest you do because it helps with tests) and practice tests which he goes over to help for actual tests (which aren't too difficult). I highly recommend him. Rob is the GOAT
His class is funny. He always has jokes that actually make you laugh. Your grade is based on 4 tests, and he wouldn't drop your lowest grade. But he always asks in class if you have any questions, and he explains very well. So, go to class, and ask questions, and you will pass this class with a high grade.
rob was an ICON! i felt like i actually knew calculus this semester which is very surprising!
Hilarious and weird at the same time in a good way, however he takes the class materials very seriously. No graded homework and 4 exams in total, no 'final'. Also, don't use your phone in class, trust me
Overall pretty great professor with entertaining lectures, but you are only graded on a few tests. Although attendance is not mandatory by the professor you will not do well if you do not attend.
He's really funny. I loved his class as a freshman. I think if you just go to lecture and do HW on time, you'll easily get an A. Just don't get lazy as attendance and HW are optional.
Your grade consists of the four exams given and nothing else. He does not use UBLearns, so attend class from time to time to find out when the test dates are. There is homework but he doesn't check it. He knows the material but can't teach it well and goes off topic quite often so be prepared to teach yourself. Tests are 10x harder than review.
Ver bad professor for teaching, he loves to make jokes when you pay attention to his lecture, he loves to scratch the blackboard, and loves to yelling on the classroom. In his course, you will feel more than 2 times harder than other professor's. No hw credit, No quiz credit, which means you are only wighted by exams. BTW, he is a tough grader.
No graded hw, which seems great until 2 tests in when your grade is lower than you want & it's impossible to raise it (4 tests total, no other grades). If you procrastinate a little like me, don't take this class because if you think you'll keep up with hw, you won't. Tests also MUCH harder than hw/ practice exams. Never struggled this much w math.
The best professor I have ever had. He makes the material so easy to understand. He tells a lot of jokes and keeps the class involved in the lectures. The best professor at UB hands down.
If I could give this guy a 6 I would
Good guy, I feel that I learned Calc 3 very well, but my exam grades told me otherwise. No homework grade, which sucks, since after exam 2 you are either in a good spot or a bad spot and-usually-staying there. I personally wouldnt take him again, since he is into explaining theory and derivation, when I learn more from grinding examples not theory
I think this man is good for the lower level courses, but he is certainty not good for this class. For the most part he joked around in the front of the class room and was mostly example based in his lectures. He really did not explain any of the theory behind the math. The class is grade just with 4 tests so if you fail 2, you will fail the class
A very down-to-earth person. You are only graded by 4 exams, so your GPA will take a huge hit if you do poorly on one. Other than that, his lectures mostly consist of example, so he makes sure you understand how to do the problems. Some of the theories come with an analogy to help you understand it. If you're a bad test-taker, avoid this class.
Really nice guy. Class is based on only 4 tests, so it will be rough if you are a bad test taker. I don't really like his style of grading based on 4 tests with no drops, but that's my two cents.
Rob is hands down most arrogant and condescending math professor I ever had in UB. He graded the class by exam because he thinks that it would give limited people an unfair advantage over another when they were another. He do make the test impossible.
Rob is good for higher level students, He is just trying to make calculus absurdly harder that what it needs to be. His tests tends to be more subjective is the only component that you are graded by, stopped coming to his class after first two and switch my professors in order to save my GPA.
Great professor, but it is still Calculus so it's pretty hard. Graded by 4 exams, the material is clear; attend class every day and you will do well. I never showed up and managed a C.
Rob is an extremely funny instructor. He is clear about his grading policies. If you pay attention in class and take extensive notes, you should be fine. If you don't understand something, just ask him.
He was very funny and a good professor, the class is still very hard but there is no getting around that.
He is a great professor and if you literally do the homework even though it isnt due, you will do good on the tests and get an A.
Wouldnt recommend he only grades you based on four test and hw is mandatory but didnt get factored into your grade unless you dont do it and the test are much harder then anything in lecture or practice you will get third test back and panic
Prof Busch is definitely the best prof ever in Mth. His lectures are super easy to understand and he is willing to answer even stupidest questions. U should have textbook to do hw but attendance isnt mandatory and the hw doesnt count for credits. Grading based on 4 test, each counted for equal points. Hilarious. Does not post lecture online. Easy A
Rob is a great professor. Never been able to understand calculus so well. Tests are super fair and hell never give you something you havent seen before. If you have the option to have him, definitely do. 10/10
People thinks that Rob is a cool process of bc he likes to make jokes, but it is not a case for people that speaks out about his grading policy, & demands to drop one test. Rob is too strict. He calls out people for using cell phone. Online hw and text books are scam as he don't grade those and tell you to give them after finals.
Took with Bush while ago for my business math and I end up failing it. His tactic of grading the class is absolutely horrible. He graded only a test and there is nothing is graded beside that. Btw he dont offer extra credits, bonus points, or curve to improve the exam score if almost everyone fails
Do not waste your time taking the class with him. He only teach for 15-20 min and spend the rest of the time making jokes and telling irrelevant stories. a lot of mistakes happen when exams are graded and he will never fix your grade.
Overall a great professor, however because the class is graded with FOUR test so it is very easy to get a low grade because of one test. Lectures were very engaging.
Don't test well - don't take him. I love Rob because I found his tests to be fairly written and properly reflect the homework. If you do the homework problems hw gives you, you will pass. If you slack off, don't attend class, or don't do the HW (which isn't graded) you won't do well. 10/10 would take again. Problems can come in if you goof up once
Easy Class but I feel that it wasn't at that level of other professors. Damn Easy homeworks and all However I was bored with his jokes. Many times he just went out of class to make fun of someone but ehhhhh.... Early you love his class but as time passes you get bored.
ROB IS THE G.O.A.T. He always made class enjoyable, especially at 9 am. His jokes and stories, believe it or not, actually help teach concepts; so you get a comedy show and lesson all in one. You need to do the hw, which isn't mandatory, or you will not pass. Same with attendance, you need to show up. Class is only based on 4 tests. Good luck!
Been seeing a lot of low scores on here for one of UB's best professors. People who do the homework and pay attention in class do well. Go to his office hours and you'll pass.
Dont take Calculus with Busch if you actually want to learn something. He never focuses on teaching. Instead he focuses on making jokes on class, and calling out people that uses laptops, or cellphones. He dont grade hw and quizzes which sucks, and is solely grades you by tests. Please change your professor if Busch is teaching
Rob Busch is hands down the BEST math professor/teacher I've ever had. His lectures are clear and to the point, with jokes mixed in to help keep the mood light when he goes over harder material. The only downside is your grade is dependent on four equally weighed exams, but they're not too difficult as he makes it clear on what you should know.
Don't practice Calculus around Rob Busch. He is one of the worst professors I ever had in UB. He tends to call out students consistently for using cellphones and makes jokes when students were paying attention. Also, he tends to make simple Calc 1 harder than what it needs and only grades you by 4 exams. Avoid him at any expense.
Rob Busch is the best math professor ever. His grading is tough but all you need is to do decent on every test and you should get a passing grade. Loves to tell stories about his past and cares for his students you just have to go up and talk to the guy. Very understanding if you're sick or anything. Homework isn't collected.
He really doesn't teach at all, you have learn it by yourself . exam is really hard
Rob Busch is one of the worst professors I ever had in UB. The reason why other people like him because of his jokes. He focus more on making jokes rather than teaching. He calls out people for using cellphone, calculators, and notes in the class. Drop Calculus and please switch to different professors ASAP if lecture is involved with Busch
Everybody talks well of Busch because of his personality. And I'll admit it: he's a funny, nice guy, but he cannot teach. Also, he only grades you on a few tests. I am a terrible test taker, and there is no help from graded homeworks or quizzes because of this way of grading.
Rob Busch is the reason why I left Mechanical Engineering. He is a great professor if you like someone that is running a comedy show in class rather than making sure we understood and learn the material. He solely grades you by 4 tests, and if you fail 1 test you fail. That's what happened to me. Btw he does not offer any quiz, hw, or extra credit
He is the best math teacher I ever had, I took his MTH 121 during my freshman year, and his class was the only reason I can wake up at 5am in the winter and be in NSC at 8. Just don't use your phone in the class unless taking picture of the note. And you will do fine.
Reasons you should take this class: He will give you a good foundation in calculus and make you actually understand, not just memorize. His lectures are interesting and funny, it's hard to NOT pay attention. He makes it clear what could possibly be on his exams. Cons: You are only graded on 4 exams. If you are a bad test taker don't take it.
I'm gonna admit it: Rob Busch is the reason why I left pre-med program. I had him for Mth 142. Rob Busch does not care about students that are struggling in his class. If students ask for help, or bring concerns about his grading policy he laugh at them in front and shows them condescending attitude. Not recommend anyone to take him.
Ive had Rob for MTH121 and MTH142. I told him I was concerned with my lack of knowledge coming into 142 from 121, and he was VERY helpful. He can take a bit to adjust to, but he is literally an icon, and he cares! He will help you at office hours if you are willing to learn. Only graded on 4 exams, though, so go to class and do the homework!
COVID really shows you what professors genuinely care about their students. This man is at the top of that list. Hes been extremely understanding and helpful during these tough times and Im grateful to have him as my professor. His lectures are amazing and if youre a good test taker, hes the man! This semester wouldve sucked had I not had him.
Rob is such a great professor! However, do NOT use your phones in his class, he is not afraid to call you out. Although he assigns homework and does not check it, the homework definitely helps with the exams. Tests are basically the only thing that is graded in his class. He is very respectful and is always willing to help.
If you ever have the opportunity to enroll in a math class taught by Robert Busch, take it. To keep it simple: he's great at keeping your attention, assigns useful homework (non-mandatory) that helps prepare you for his tests (do/understand the homework and you'll definitely do well), and (most importantly) is passionate about his job.
Rob Busch is the worst professor I ever had in UB. The reason why people likes him because he likes to make jokes in classroom rather than teaching. He does not teach at all, and made Calc 2 way harder that what it was needed to be. Avoid him like a plague.
Prepare to read the textbook for your grade. Just listening to his lecture will not help. Youtube and textbooks helped if you're lost in class. He gives good review before the test but the review will be totally different from the test. DON'T RELY ON THE REVIEW AS THE ONLY PART OF STUDYING. It will be a bad mistake.
He is a very nice guy. He cares for his students' feelings. If you take his class, you will enjoy it. He is verrrrry funny. There is only 4 exam include the final exam. Each is 25%. If you study, you can pass. He is a perfect professor for students who don't need too much help from their professor.
Avoid this course if you are a bad test taker. The reason why he was rated high because he likes making jokes rather than teaching. Please follow my advice and take Calculus with different instructors if you actually want to learn.
People think that Rob is a cool professor bc he likes to make jokes, but it is not a case for people that speaks out about his grading policy, & demands to drop one test. Rob is too strict. He calls out people for using cell phones. Online hw and textbooks are a scam as he doesn't grade those and tell you that he factors them for final grades.
Rob Busch genuinely cares for the success of each student. This being said, you will not get a free A in this course, if the grades show a need for all students to get an F, he will do so. He makes the very abstract ideas of calc 3 very clear, and holds your attention very clearly. Don't listen to the negative reviews, hes a great professor.
I had trouble accessing the class lectures and assignments and kept emailing him and he never answered now its 4 weeks into school and I have to change my major because without calculus I can't take another class on my schedule so now I have to go down to being a part time student. Sorry but genuinely HATE this man!!!
Rob Busch goated. I had a page of lore in my notebook from the beginning of Spring semester to covid kicking us out.
Although I had him for online classes, I could honestly say he is one of the most fun and hilarious people I did not get to meet. I actually looked forward to his lectures, and he explains concepts very well. However grades are based off exams solely, so make sure you do your homework, they help a lot.
If you are not good test taker do not take class with Rob Busch. He doesnt curve, or allows calculator and formula sheets during exams. Exam are 100% of your final grades. Avoid this class at any costs.
The class itself is not bad, but Rob Busch makes it bad. Examples are bad lecturing, boring, and irrelevant homework meaning not matching anything from the lecture. His grading techniques are terrible as you are solely graded by exams. So I don't recommend taking class with him.
Isnt the most caring or empathic towards his students but he is an amazing lecturer. You wont get bored. His tests are very straightforward and fair. If you do the homework you wont be surprised.
Funny guy. Teaching style was very good and kept me engaged. Solid choice for MTH141
Made learning calculus fun. Effective teacher. Not the best online communicator. Gets frustrated but that's to be expected with remote learning. 100% would want again.
Amazing Professor and funny too. I hated Math throughout high school but the way he teaches is so clear. As long as you pay attention to the lectures you will do amazing. He even posts reviews before the tests with example problems and goes step by step so you understand it well. Homework is optional but definitely helps and the TA's go over the hw
Professor B.'s online lectures were great. He did every problem STEP BY STEP, even included trivial things in the solutions like substracting a negative number so you knew exactly what was going on and where each term in a solution came from. Excellent professor. Please don't listen to negative reviews for this guy. He can be hard to reach though.
Amazing professor, I took him for calc 1 and his lectures were hilarious as well as informative. I actually enjoyed and looked forward to watching his lectures. Don't take the class if you're bad with exams as the only grades you get are from exams. There was no graded homework or extra credit.
He is probably one of the best teachers Ive ever had. He explains material really well and as long as you watch or participate in lectures you should do well in his class.
Amazing lectures. 10/10 would take his courses again.
Busch is a really funny guy and he tells it like it is. The only thing iffy ab this course is that youre graded only on the exams and quizzes, if that's not your thing neither is this class. Recitation is pretty pointless bc every week we have a quiz leading to the exam so there's really no time for questions. He also shows up late and ends early
Take with Busch ONLY if you want to learn. If you try to get by Calc1 you will have difficult time with Busch. He grades only by exams, so there is no homework or extra credit available. Also, he loves to laugh, and yell, when students uses cellphones in his class, or sleeping.
Take it with Rob Busch if u r a math major and wanna learn some math. If u r an engineering major, and don't want ur grades drop, seek for Casper, or Corey. Rob has a policy where ur grades drop by a letter if u either don't show up for quizzes or fail quizzes even though it's ungraded. He count ungraded quizzes against you and lowers ur test avg.
Your grade for the class will only consist of 4 exams and the final exam as he does not grade the homework he assigns, but does not mean you should not do your homework-do not fall behind on HW! He posts practice exams online for every exam, which you should closely look at and fully understand as you might see similar questions on your actual exam
Rob was a great professor. He explained concepts well and went over problems step-by-step in class. As long as you practice the practice exams he gives and not skip his HW, you should expect to do great in his class. Calculus is all about the work you put in hammering down the various techniques you learn in class. Pay attention and you'll be fine.
Rob is the best professor I've ever met in this college. He teaches well and his lectures aren't boring to listen to. Very test heavy as the only grades for his class were exams. He assigns optional homework, but if you don't do them you will fail. Just pay attention and do the questions he recommends.
Rob is regarded as one of the best profs at this school and for good reason. He makes lectures very easy to understand and pay attention to, while letting you know what is testable and non-testable. Many who dislike him take him too seriously, but that isn't a problem with him. He is a breath of fresh air in a mediocre math dept.
Made Calc 1 course more like a six credit course. Assign way too many core problems before exams. Eventhough core problems are not mandatory, you can't able to finish single questions without practicing them. The practice exams that are being provided are not previous years exams, they are more like problems in the book.
Don't take Calc classes with Busch if you value your GPA. Eventhough you think attendance is not mandatory for lectures and recitation, he gives pop quizzes (which is unweighted), which can lower your grades regardless of what you got especially if you miss class or get them incorrect. On top that, your entire class grade is based on exams.
Although attendance is not mandatory, you still have to attend every class or you will miss the exam. All grades for this course are determined by just four exams. If you miss the exam you can't make it up, even if you learn everything.
Although attendance in Robert's class is not compulsory, you still have to attend every class or you will miss the exam. All grades for this course are determined by just four exams. If you miss the exam you can't make it up.
Rob Busch is my favorite professor at UB. Homework isn't graded, but the couple of tests he gives aren't hard, and there are only 4-5 questions per test. He does a great job at helping students truly understand the subject, and doesn't just talk at you. Hilarious guy, there wasn't a day where the class wasn't laughing at his jokes.
My favorite Professor so far here!
Don't take this class if u value ur GPA. His class is 100% based on 4 tests, and those tests average around 60% with no curve. He is very high on curve grade being anticipated as C- range.
Rob is my favorite professor at UB. I taken him now for two semesters, MTH 142 and MTH 241, both of which have been pleasant experiences. His lectures are very entertaining and straight forward. Rob assigns homework problems that are not graded, but it is imperative that you keep up with them as the material is taught. The exam questions are fair.
Robert Busch teaching methods are old fashioned as he only grades on exams. He spends more time trying to make students laugh rather than teaching. He doesn't care if students pass or fail and does very little to help those who struggle. I strongly recommend you take someone else if you honestly want to pass the course with ease.
Please only take this class if you are 100% solid on your fundamentals. If you make even the slightest slip up on the exams, it will cost you considerably in terms of your grade. The whole grade is based on 4 exams, and nothing else. Partial credit is a hit or miss. You could lose quite a bit for even the smallest errors.
I loved this professor he really made my day and was hilarious. He always cracked jokes and told great stories. Great guy all around. Beware though your grade for the year is going to be based on 4 tests each rated at 25%. He and his TA's try to be nice graders but if you fail 3 pretty badly you're fresh out of luck. No graded HW. No recorded vids.
I don't recommend him. He can't teach. people say he is a good professor because he's good at telling funny stories (unrelated to the lectures at all!). But he's actually not funny. He dismisses class early every day and you don't learn much. Math department should recognize this issue!
quizzes in recitation every week & you lose points easily on quizzes. ends class early. makes jokes instead of actually teaching. don't take him if you don't have calc background. don't buy textbook since you don't actually use it. use a "online" website for textbook instead.
grades are based on exams, His teaching strategies are outdated. Instead of lecturing, he spends more time attempting to make the pupils laugh. He doesn't give much assistance to those who are struggling and doesn't care if students pass or fail. If you truly want to breeze through the course, I strongly advise taking someone else.
People from the Busch cult love him because he is good at telling funny stories and he just spends way too much time in making students laugh. Always these stories/jokes have nothing to do with cal 3 AT ALL. He actually cannot teach the course materials! If you want to learn something this is not the place for you but if you want comedy here it is!
If you struggle with calculus or need a lot of "hand-holding" to understand material, Busch is not your guy. Learning the material is strictly dependent on you, and you alone, by doing the homework. Lectures are kinda useless, because he only does a few examples from the homework. He tends to arrive to class to late, ends class early.
He spends tons of time on telling funny stories and thus making lectures kinda useless. Would usually be late to the class and dismiss the class early always! I learn nothing from him at all but rather relies on self-study and the Math Help Center!
I only had him for Calc 3, so I can only recommend you avoid him for Calc 3. Had a hard time learning as he is a very "rant-y" lecturer, and while that may be fine for Calc 1 & 2, Calc 3 is too abstract and had a very hard time grasping at the concepts he was trying to explain. Do the homework religiously and you should be well prepared for exams.
Only exams are counted towards grades but he gives a great lecture. He does go a little fast at times but overall I leave the classroom feeling like I retained most of the new content from that day.
he doesn't give hw
Personally, I did not enjoy his class since I expected to learn things and not listen to anecdotes that makes the class laugh. He teaches his material but he doesn't give enough examples to back up the concept. When doing his homework, there were simply some problems that I couldn't tackle because it was vastly different from the in-class examples.
PLEASE READ THIS!!! If you are taking Calculus 3 with this professor for the first time, RUN! There are no homework, quizzes, tests, or attendance you can depend on. There are only 4 exams that make up your entire grade and only a limited amount of textbook questions. Please pick another professor for your own mental health.
Robert Busch is one of the worst math teachers that you could take for a course like this. He gives little grades and does not teach the materials well enough. If you take this course get ready to read the textbook because it'll be the only way you can pass.
He's your guy if you like his style (no HW credit, only 4 tests determines overall grade), he is a very smart professor however, for me personally I'd have to say I wouldn't recommend him to anyone who struggles in Math. Having no HW credit to fall back on is tough, make sure you know what you're getting yourself into before enrolling.
Rob Busch is by far one of the better professors that I've had at UB but be careful to do the HWs that are not required. He only gave us 4 graded HWs all semester so the class is very heavily weighted on tests. The two midterms and the final make up for 70% and if you do not show up to lectures or do the optional assignments, you wont pass
Hands down one of the best professors at UB, if you get a chance, take him, hes hilarious and keeps you engaged in even the most boring material. Exams have no surprises and everything is straight forward. He goes over a lot of examples in class and makes this class a breeze.
Calculus 3 is hard but this professor made it very easy to understand, he makes jokes and explains everything in simple terms to keep you engaged and interested. Homeworks are not graded but if you follow his lectures, they are very easy to do and make exams a breeze.
This class was reasonable as long as you put in the work. He gives a solid overview of topics and good examples during class, but it is mainly up to you to practice each topic to truly understand it. Exams are very fair. He is helpful in office hours and keeps lectures highly engaging. Overall, I highly recommend him for calc 2!
Busch has a way of explaining things that allow you to not only understand but allow you to see the underlying math. when I took calc 1 under a different prof I was spending 9-12 hours a week going over practice problems, with busch that 3 hours at best.
Busch is a professor that I would simply like to hang out with outside of the classroom. Very funny and easygoing. Some students complain that he teaches too fast but I think he explains everything very clearly and multiple times for everyone. Take him if you can, made learning calculus actually somewhat fun.
For calculus 1 he's pretty solid but I would recommend avoiding his calc 3 class. I took him for both, Calc 3 material is much more abstract, and his lecture style wasn't a great fit. The exams + grading scheme can be pretty brutal. Don't be fooled by the ungraded hw, you'll probably fail if you never do it
Rob used to teach his own curriculum, but now is forced to do what UB's general math department wants. This clearly affects his teaching style, for example, he had no clue what would be on our final exam. Whether this is his fault or not, beware that this professor is unfamiliar with what is tested on the exams.
People who complains about Rob took Calc 1 2019 or earlier. His class is bit easier now since he was forced to change his math curriculum. His class is now graded by 4 hw, weekly quizzes, and 3 exams + departmental final. So there is plenty of opportunity to bring up your grade because of hw weighted 30%. His exams are not too hard either
Only 4 evenly weighted exams of 3-5 questions each. Gives good examples and will tell you what is likely to show up and how to show that work explicitly. Ungraded hw but you have to do it or you'll be lost. Requires a lot of self-work/studying with the textbook. Exam questions are right from hw but u can get unlucky with the chosen problems. Funny.
It is clear that Busch uses his extensive teaching experience to understand students. A lot of these reviews will talk about how funny he is in class, but he is also incredibly caring! If you have questions or want him to go more in-depth, he will always answer to the best of his incredible ability. He knows how to teach the course efficiently.
Such a cool professor to have. Definitely brightens up my day with his jokes, even if it's a 9 am class.
Great guy. Made math extremely easy.
I love this dude
He's fantastic, that's all I gotta say
he's cool, he's basically just an old white guy that you would think is off a perc. he's very smart, and caring and he tries to make class entertaining. I would honestly not miss any lectures unless ur mad good at calc, I missed a few lectures and spent mad long in the math tutoring thing for the midterms
Very funny and taught the course very well. No complaints. 10/10 professor.
He's a great proffesor but honestly his way didnt work for me, classes are not mandatory but there are not recordings or notes of the class. He goes pretty fast on the lectures. 85% of your grade are quizes/Midterm/Final exam so if you fail those it will be definetely hard to get a good grade on the course.
I took AP Calc BC beforehand, so take this with a grain of salt. Funniest guy ever. Every lecture was amazing and hilarious, especially the optional ones. He prepared us well for the tests, and I think I'll get an A. He cares about his students, and if you have the chance to take him, DO IT! My favorite professor at UB so far.
For me, it was hard to focus in lectures unless I sat at the very front. It might be because he preferred to use the black board over the white board and it's kinda hard to read it from the back. He also goes super fast and that did not help my focus, but it is a course with lots to cover. i mostly relied on hw to understand the material.
He gives a decent amount of homework but would make a large section available all at once and told us at least a month before the due dates. The classes usually went by quickly so you should pay attention and write notes as he goes through them. The textbook was only needed for some integration rules in the back but can be used for practice.
Rob is an great instructor for Calc 1. He mixes lecture material with occasional comedy to keep the class engaging. That said, don't ask stupid questions and do NOT to use your electronic devices for anything other notetaking in his class. Other than that, Rob is amazing and I really felt I he explained the material in a way I could understand it.
Busch is not a bad professor, he does a great job breaking up monotonous calculus with a story or joke, and (usually) conveys concepts sufficiently. This makes him great if you are coming in with background knowledge in calculus, but his tendency to end lectures early (10-20min) and to spend a lot of time joking instead of lecturing can be hard.
I had to self-teach to do a little better, but his lectures do help a lot. They can be hard to follow though if you focus too heavily on taking notes. He doesn't assign much homework, and his lectures were kept fairly entertaining, but he does jab at random students a lot for the sake of his joke. One of the better professors you could take though.
Rob is a great person but I wouldn't choose him as a professor again. I took Calc 2 and 3 with him, but ended up retaking both. He speeds through material, its hard to follow him and explain a lot of theory but 1 or 2 examples, and his chalkboard notes are tough to read. He's disorganized, no notes or recordings and grades posted till last min.
Busch is a dream come true if you're self reliant and/or already decent at calculus, but if you're looking for someone to help guide a struggling soul to the promise lands, he may only make things worse especially if you don't have thick skin. Hilarious, great guy and is one of the few example based profs rather than droning on about theory forever
Professor Busch is a solid lecturer, but the material can be challenging. Attend classes, take notes, and use resources like the textbook and unstuckstudy ai to stay on top of the concepts. Overall, a worthwhile course if you're willing to put in the effort.
Super funny, teaches math in a very simple way with a lot of practice problems
Easiest Calc 2 experience ever. Calc 2 is widely regarded as the hardest course but with Rob it's the easiest. All you need to do is go to lecture and this class will be a breeze.
Great guy. If you actually try in his course you will do well he is hilarious and makes the learning in lecture easy. It's just how much you choose to retain for the tests that matters.
Funniest dude ever and has incredible lectures. Going to class is genuinely worth it because he explains things really well and will make you laugh. Tests are sometimes a little hard but as long as you do a good amount of studying, overall not bad. Would highly recommend
This guy always comes in with shorts, gives the funniest lectures, & you need to watch out for the almighty "Calc Czar" with their standardized curriculum. If you go to lecture you learn the lesson of the day. If not, you could skip all the lectures and learn it online and it would be the same. However, rob is the goat, well worth going to class.
He's good and all but he doesn't teach. He just goes on rants about his personal life and we're just there, forced to listen. Don't get me wrong, he is a very nice guy and he is easy to approach to. But he can't teach in a way where students could understand.
I took Rob for Calc1, and he was a great teacher for that course. That was because calc1 is easier than calc3, and calc1's curriculum is standardized at UB. Rob has more control over this class than calc1, so expect tough tests and to be graded largely by test performance. Consider another professor if you don't have the best grip on calc material.
Doesn't really teach well you mostly get all your info from the homeworks and textbooks. Does not give practice exams so be prepared to just do a whole lot of textbook questions to study. Also remember derivatives of inverse trig functions because he apparently loves putting them on exams.
i had busch for calc 1 and he was great but for calc 3 I greatly struggled because there are no practice exams and you are expected to know every little thing about each topic (like inverse trig derivatives). i would recommend taking someone else for calc 3 but idk if there are better professors at UB. almost dropped the course.
It is no secret this guy is funny and engaging. That may take away from his ability to convey information at times. Make sure to actually try on the homework even though it's easy to finesse. The tests were for the most part easier than what the homework required you to do. Test make up %70 of the grade so make sure you know what you're doing.
Rob is an excellent professor! I would highly recommend him for any math/calc classes at UB! His lectures are great, but I would still highly recommend attending recitations to get a deeper understanding since lectures are fast-paced. Gives plenty of time to complete homework (usually 2 weeks). Rob was my favorite professor in my 2 years at UB!
Overall a good professor and I really can't complain. His lectures almost always end early. However, the practice problems in class are significantly easier than the problems in the homework so I recommend going to TA office hours or ask questions in recitation. There's a homework assigned after every lecture. Exams are easy if you study and try
He's the goat
He's somewhat funny and very engaging but at the expense of quality teaching. Busch cares more about being liked than anything. He also teaches entirely through examples, and shies away from more conceptual and pure math. He's decent but if you care about math and don't just want this class to fulfill a requirement, chose a different professor.
He's a good professor, but don't miss a lecture. He flys through the material which makes his lectures almost always end early. Also the homework is just awful.
Funny guy, if you put in the work easy grade. I got a C because I did not put the work in.
Amazing professor. Lectures were full of helpful example problems and course was incredibly structured. Calc 2 is definitely Rob's element. Expect funny shirts and laughter . Class almost always ended early. He teaches fast but will stop to let you catch up and answers all questions. Easily my favorite prof. His class fills up fast for a reason!
Rob is my GOAT. It is very clear he tries his best to teach in such a way that the students can get an intuitive grasp on the material, and he's very entertaining also. My only problem is that the TAs handle the quizzes, which can be a hit or miss depending on the TA (for Calc 2 this was a nightmare, for Calc 3 the TA was very reasonable)
His a great professor but goes a bit fast. So for me it was hard to keep up but you have to attend lectures as he doesn't upload anything to ub learns. Also the room suckkkks nsc 216. It's super cramped and hard to see the board depending on where you are sitting and if you don't come early good luck. I would avoid him mainly because of the room
Don't listen to others. He's not funny, and his lectures are horrible. He uses a blackboard in a flat classroom where it's hard for most people to see. He goes too fast in lectures with no clear explanations. Prepare to teach yourself. I stopped going to lecture and use YT instead. Also no practice exams and the exams are brutally hard.
Took Busch for calc 2, was a valid professor for that class, but for calc 3 it was straight up suffering. I like him as a person but his exams are DIFFICULT! If you're taking the infamous 18 credit MAE 3rd semester you should consider Javor or Zhang as professors, otherwise get ready to use neuralink to try and pass with something above a C.
The class is difficult but you can tell he enjoys teaching. He does a great job at making sure you understand the concepts.
Obviously very knowledgeable/nothing he cannot answer for you. His lectures definitely do end early because he is very fast. He writes down every word he says which is fine, but if you also write every word you may fall behind, so take notes only of what you need. Very funny aswell.
If you are taking him for calc 3 please spare yourself and switch to a different professor, I have never had such a terrible professor, very hard to keep up with what hes saying as he goes very fast during lecture. Exams are difficult and provides no practice exams
lowkey the goat. lectures are insterseting, he his very funny. notes are on the chalkboard and arent posted online thought. Wears funny shirts and aura farms during class but does it well and authenticly. his actual teaching style is good aswell.
Calc1/Calc2 is fine (A's in both). Calc 3, he runs the course...He writes on the chalkboard, doesn't provide any notes, no practice exams or examples of exam questions, doesn't get back to you when you email, and overall just a terrible prof. Heard he was trash from upperclassman, didn't listen and I got fried. Do Casper, Javor, Or Zhang instead :)
I don't understand why the math department let the math professors run the calculus 3 course but Busch is the worst of them all. He is a funny guy but the corny jokes will not get you a passing grade. GOODLUCK HAVE FUN!
Rob is an alright professor. He is old fashion so he only uses the chalkboard and does not post much on UBLearns. His lectures are useful, however to do well you need to self teach yourself the material. His lectures are entertaining, but he does not teach the material the best. Make sure to do the HW and use the book and you will be fine.
Lectures are actually okay, but avoid for Calc 3. Unlike Calc 1/2, there are no practice exams. The "prog checks" don't match the actual tests at all. The equation sheets were disorganized, listing irrelevant formulas while missing the ones we actually needed. If there was test transparency, he'd be a 4/5, but the exam prep is totally inadequate.
Took Rob for Calc 1, then took Javor for 2. Went back to Rob for 3...should have stayed with Javor. He is a funny guy, and tries to make the classes somewhat interesting, but in terms of test prep, good luck. EIGHTY percent of your grade relies on the midterms and final, so if one of those goes wrong, you're screwed. Study early and go to lecture.
