If you take this class you'll learn a lot, exams are difficult if you're not willing to study a lot, overall a good class and cartier is a nice guy

Prof. Cartier is veryy cool and passionate about his field of topic. He really wants everyone to do well and get an A. He let us have open notes and tells us exactly what will be on the test. But you do have to read the book and go to class everyday.

Ok the class was kinda boreing, I couldnt help falling asleep. I never read the book so maybe that is why I barely got an A in the class. I'm sure if you read the book you guys will get an A for sure. He does know his material well though.

dr. cartier is AWESOME. he's funny and interesting.i got an A but you really have to listen to lectures and read the book.the tests are multiple choice and OPEN NOTES.i would copy down diagrams from the book.he's such a cool teacher i would take him again

He is awsome. He's like a kid in a candy store with his work, in that he loves it so much! It's near impossible to not share his entusiasm. I recomend him to everyone! He meshes well with all personalities. Totally nice guy, don't pass him up.

Great Teacher. Just come to class and take notes from the board. YOu can use these notes for the midterms and final and its soo ez and straight from the lecture. He tells you exam topics and such an interesting class bc he makes it interesting. No hw or reading necessary, and ez A.

Extreamly helpful with preparing the class for the midterm. Has open not tests and final. Gives you tim to get ready for the tests and tells you the test topics in addvance. A nice teacher overall.

An awesome teacher. Just don't come to class late or fall asleep (it's his pet peeve). Grades are based on 3 midterms and Final. It's open notebook so make sure you take good notes and come to class as often as possible! He's very loves the subject and still works in it. Not boring at all.

Very good class. I learned a lot and I got the best grade in the entire class. It's now several years later however and I don't remember a great deal of it. I wonder if a better approach to presenting the information would have helped with my retaining the facts.

Loves what he does and is very clear. He gives 4 tests through out the class that bases your entire grade. He does allow you to use your notes so make sure you take good ones inside and outside of class. He also gives you the test topics so make sure you look up the info before hand. Highly recommended!!!

Very helpful teacher, have a very good heart for his students, just need to take good notes, well organize them, open note midterms-4 total, no homework. However, STUDY AND PREPARE GOOD NOTE or you will do bad in the tests. Good luck guys.

really nice teacher, but i hate his grading system. b/c there r only 100 pts. u can get in the class, if u bomb a test its very hard 2 get ur grade up! i went to class EVERYDAY, took notes, studied EVERYDAY, studied for 7hrs the day b4 test & got a D (& im a 4.0 student)! after that test there was NO HOPE 4 a passing grade! GOOD LUCK!

I don't understand how anyone can get a bad grade in this class. Everything on the test is from his notes/lectures and it's open notebook, PLUS he reveals an exam question everyday as a reward for those who attend class. AND he gives out test topics so you know what to study for. His videos are interesting too =]

Real sweet guy, loves what he does and wants students to pass his class. His lectures are very ineresting as well as the videos, I actually had fun in a science class 4 the first time. Mr. Cartier rocks take an anth class w/him you'll like it!

REALLY nice! I loved his class. He made it really intersting. Just take good notes and review the chapters and there is no reason why you can't get an A. He is good about making things clear. I really enjoyed this class and plan on taking another from him! REALLY RECOMMEND HIM!

Okay to get an B or better <your grade is depended on 4 exams> 1) You have to come to class early (730am class good luck) to get questions thats on the test 2.) Take GOOD un-messy notes because u can use ur notes on all his exams 3) Dont sleep in his class he gets really mad! This teacher is great and has a great sense of humor

This guy is great. He's funny, positive and loves what he does. I learned a lot in this class. The only thing to be weary about is the fact he takes about 2 weeks in detail on explaining AIDS which scared the hell out of me. But Cartier is really a great teacher.

Exams are open note, but you still have to study. Tests are not easy regardless of open notes. He is nice and fair. Doesn't leave much room for classroom discussion (mostly lecture). Didn't like the use of some outdated videos.

EASY. attend class at the start of it EVERYDAY and you will get a question off of the next exam!! make sure you take down GOOD notes. NO HWs, 3 exams and 1 final. tells you test topics for EVERY question off of each exam, so do your research and prepare and you WILL get a good grade. videos/slides at least 2 out of 4 days a week! EXTREMELY EASY

Pr. Cartier is brilliant! His lectures are interesting, he shows good media, brings stuff to show to class. His lectures are clear and interesting. He writes important stuff on the board. Dr. Cartier is an excellent teacher. He is so nice and will make the class laugh. He has tons of stories from his life experiences. Everybody told me Anthro was a tough class, but I passed it! He makes in very easy, you can use notes, and he puts important notes on the board Midterms/Final open Notes, so take good notes!

Dr. Cartier is a great professor. He's energetic and he wants people to do well. He really knows his stuff, and tells lots of great stories about his own experiences. Lectures are organized, interesting, and easy to understand. Tests are open note, so if you take good notes you'll do well. I took his anthro 1 class and it was also great. Take him!

I took anthropology 1,2 and 4 with him, because he is the greatest and most interesting teacher. Definitely one of DeAnza's finest instructors. As long as you attend class and take good notes you will get an A. He allows you to use notes on the test, so write down everything he says and you're guaranteed to pass! Highly Recommended! Be on time to class, he gives exam hints to those who are early

Aw Mr. Cartier is such a great teacher. I got a B in his class though... I regret not taking enough notes for the 1st 2 midterms. He is very clear on his lectures and he knows his stuff. I am really sad leaving his class though, he was very friendly and I learned a lot in Physical Anthro. He's a cool guy and traveled A LOT. Take this class! :] :]

he said that he's not meant to make the tests trick, but the tests are quiet confusing. Even though I attended every class times and did everything that was required,I never got over 35/40points.(*3midterms and 1 final-worth twice as much points of a midterm) But overall I really really liked his teaching style-lectures,lectures,&lectures!+movies

He is one of the best teachers at De Anza!I'm not saying that because he allows notes on tests, but he makes the topic really interesting.His lectures are crystal clear and he talks in a slow tone for you to grasp what hes talking about.Anthropology is pretty complex and boring to some, but I love this subject along w/ history.

Even though the class was at 7:30am, I looked forward to it. He makes antrho incredibly interesting and he's quite funny. No homework, just tests which are open notes. As long as you attend class, pay attention during his lectures, and read a bit from the textbook, you'll get an A.

Dr Cartier is such a sweet heart!! He'll literally bend over backwards to help you understand the concepts & will actually help you on exam questions. All tests are open notes, so try to be attentive during lecture even though its a 7:30am class. Final IS cumulative but he recycles the q's from past midterms. I'm most def. taking anth 2 with him :)

Very professional professor. Don't sleep in his class though, or he will yell at you. Makes the class interesting with the artifacts he brings to class and the slides he has of his archaeological digs. There are four exams which are all multiple choice and open notes. As long as you keep your notes organized, you should do well in the course. Best

Cultural Anthropology was one of my favorite classes at De Anza. Cartier is one of the best professors here, not because of the content of the course, but how he teaches and his professionalism and good humor. He is encouraging and gets you very interested in the class. Take his ANTH 2 class if you can, he tries to add everyone. One of the Best.

He's a jolly man who never gets mad. His lectures are crystal clear. Open note tests, no quizzes, no hw. And tests are based on lectures. Extremely easy class, yet you still learn everything you need to. He adds EVERYONE. He makes class not boring and helps everyone understand confusing topics. TAKE HIM. CARTIER ROCKS!!

Although I am not particularly interested in archeology, it is still worth the time to learn new things from his lessons. He is really professional in his field, which is archeology, and shares a lot of his interesting projects and experience. Tests are rather easy, he gives a lot of hints about the tests beforehand. Easy class, GREAT TEACHER.

Professor Cartier makes this class a walk in the park. He gives you questions on the midterm at the beginning of class, so don't be late! He doesn't offer any extra credit, but you definitely do not need it if you attend lectures. I didn't really use the textbook, so unless you miss class a lot you don't need it. Take Cartier if you want an easy A!

I wish all professors were like him.I'm an"older"student and he made me right at home. I learned SO MUCH in his class and wish I had him when I was younger.I might have gone into the field-he's makes it that exciting.I hope he knows how much he is appreciated as a professor.He's motivating and makes sure we get it.What a novel idea for teaching!

He is a knowledgeable professor with a lot of passion for anthro. Nevertheless, his midterms are NOT EASY as others described. Even though it's open notes, you won't have enough time. No extra credit or other assignments; so if you mess up on ONE midterm, you're going to have a hard time getting an A. I've received a B and I only missed 1 class day

Dr Cartier is funny and knowledgeable. I attended the 7:30 am class but still I could stay 100% awake and enjoyed his lectures. Take good notes, ask him immediately when you have questions, screen through the textbook. That's how I got A+.

Cartier is extremely easy, open note multiple choice tests, and he gives you tests questions if you show up to class on time. Only reason why people ever do poorly in his class is because they skip his class thinking they'll do fine without his lectures. Also he lets you make up your tests, except the final. Take his class! His lectures are great!

His lectures are extremely interesting. No homework.He is a nice teacher and knows what he is talking about. The book is completely uneeded since everything you need to know for the test is in his lectures. Just take notes as he allows you to use as many notes as you want and take them with the test. I looked forward to attending his classes.

I really liked this teacher, he's extremely friendly and helpful. I would so take him again. but I dont really need anth several times for my GE. So that's a no go. But his class is really easy just take lots of notes and play attention. You get to use notes on the tests.3 midterms and a final. If you dont show up then you need the book.

Robert is an excellent professor. His lectures are thorough and informative. He is very passionate about the subject and frequently asks whether we had questions for him. Attendance is recommended because his lectures are extremely important and his midterms are based from the lectures. Easy A if you take good notes. Use of textbook is mild.

Very inspirtational and passionate teacher. Really cares, very clear. It was easy, but I learned a lot. He is an interesting man, with a lot experience and stories of his travels, and relations to subjects. I loved this class. Take if can, all you need to do is go to class; and there's you're A, well you need to pay attention but its hard not too.

His lectures are interesting, which is great, since writing down everything he talks about guarantees an A in the class. Just make sure your notes are clear and organized. Never miss class; come early--he gives away test questions. Tests are all open note, multiple choice, he gives away some answers if you come early. Take him. You won't regret it.

Mr. Cartier is probably the easiest teacher I have ever had. He gives good lectures, gives you a test question a day, & lets you use your notes on the tests. Not only that he's a great guy with a lot of knowledge in anthropology. He shared some pretty amusing stories of his experiences in field work, which really added something to his lectures :).

Forget Margaret Mead and Napoleon Chagnon. After this class, you will never forget the incredible stories of the anthropologist who studied the Tibetans across the Himalayas for two years. He provides great insightful lectures and interesting media that opened me to the world of anthropology. Anyone is lucky to have a professor like Dr. Cartier.

Great teacher! I have taken him for all 4 classes he teaches.. Easy but makes it very very interesting.. I actually decided to major in Anthropology because of him.. Definitely recommend him! PS.. make sure to take amazing notes.. he lets you use them on the tests..

I took Dr. Cartier's class in 1989. I have loved Archaeology ever since, I am glad to see that he is still teaching, he is truly an inspiring teacher and passionate about what he does. I never forgot the stories of Tibet! We did a lot of field work which really made it an unforgettable class. It made my day to find him still doing amazing work.

Really loves what he does! I took this class not knowing what to expect but he's great. Curves tests, lets you drop the lowest exam. Oh, and exams are all open note! I got a B 'cause I took studying for granted because of the notes.

Extremely clear and thorough professor who has great stories to tell about his experiences in the field. As long as you show up to class, take notes which he allows you to use during the tests there is no reason you will get lower than a B. Not a difficult class. I highly recommend the class, I have learned a lot and so will you.

I have taken both Archaeology and Phys. Anthro from Bob. He is very charismatic and interesting to listen to. His exams are open note (very easy in my opinion) but you still end up retaining the stuff he lectured, which to me is a success. I whole-heartedly recommend taking these classes.

Makes lectures real interesting and extremely straightforward tests. Gives sample test questions first 2 minutes of class, so be sure to come on time! Tests are open notes so as long as you takes notes in class and pay attention, you should be fine. Highly recommend if you're looking for an interesting Anthropology class to take.

very nice teacher. lets you USE NOTES ON THE TESTS!! including the final. Take good notes and you'll get an A simple as that. only need to read one chapter book for a few questions that will come up on test. He will also give a question to the upcoming test before each class, just make sure to remind him about it.

Dr. Cartier has a lot of knowledge in the field and you can see his passion when he lectures about it. If you go to class everyday, take notes, and pay attention you will do fine. There is no homework just 3 midterm exams and one final exam. Don't forget to get the long brown scantron. I def recommend taking his class.

Prof Cartier is great! Although some professors think his methods are ridiculous (ie, open notes, no homework, no project) I actually learned a lot from him than any other class. Despite his unconventional methods, he does let you work for it by having you take hella notes and attend class before the crack of dawn. TAKE HIM! SUCH FUN! MUCH LEARN!

Professor Cartier is amazing! By far one of the best professors at De Anza. I found Anth3 class interesting because of him. He has amazing lectures and you will never be bored! There are also times in which you get to watch videos and they are interesting as well! I would definitely take him again! Take him you won't regret it!

AWFUL. All you do is copy down his notes for the test, but they are so messy & disorganized. They are very unclear, contradictory, & only make sense to HIM, so you barley get a real grasp of the material & end up missing simple test questions. Better to just study on your own. Complete waste of time! I guess if you're lazy you'll like this class.

He's a good teacher. He gives you free test questions which is really awesome if you show up on time, and free answers before the exam. His class can be confusing sometimes but if you ask him for help he'll help you out.

One of the only classes that was an extremely easy A and also interesting and informative. I learned a lot in this class and Dr. Cartier was very interesting. There's no homework, and there's notes allowed for tests. Pretty much unheard of in college! Anth 1 with Cartier is a great, easy option to fulfill you life science requirement.

His stories about villages in remote places in Nepal are just so interesting. The class material itself is not an amazing thrill, but class is definitely not boring if you are into historical and archeological stuff. Take good notes, organize them prior to tests, don't be late to class because he tells you a test question as soon as class starts.

Professor Cartier is one of the BEST instructors at De Anza. His lectures are interesting and engaging for a 7:30 AM class. Highly recommend. He gives out test questions every morning and on the days of midterms if you arrive on time.

Professor Cartier is pretty cool. Three midterms and a final is the only thing that's counted in your grade. Notes are allowed on the test. NOTE TO SELF, that you really got to listen to his lecture for extra notes that could possibly be on the test or else test questions can get difficult. He does give out all the topics thats on the test before.

Cartier is my favorite teacher so far. He's not boring, he's very intelligent & knows his material very well. His notes are VERY helpful & clear. He gets straight to the point & doesn't waste any time. All exams are open notes & gives you all the answers. Attend every class, take notes, pay attention & you'll pass class easily with an A.

Dr. Robert Cartier is clearly an intelligent and very knowledgeable individual. His stories of his field world in Tibet were simply amazing that it made it easier to understand his lectures, notes, and videos. All exams including the final are open notes, but it's your job to make sure you take good notes. Skip class, and you mot likely won't pass.

Dr. Cartier is probably one of my favorite teachers yet. He gives awesome stories and lectures. Note taking, while not mandatory, is very much recommended because all of his tests (including the final) are open note. As well as this, he gives you a study guide of all the topics he will be testing you on, so you can make sure you have all the notes.

He's the best. We took a midterm today. He gave a question everyday to people who came on time, and today, he gave the class 4 more questions out of the test. We had almost 19/20 questions given to us for free. The rest were super elementary. If you didn't get dropped for missing too many classes, you should be getting an A in the class

Literally all you need to do is show up and take notes. He lets you use your notes on the midterm and final and e gives you so many test questions for free. If you need a life science HE IS YOUR GUY. The only thing is it's early in the morning and Monday through Thursday

You're grade depends entirely on 3 midterms and a final. None of these tests are that hard and he lets you use notes on them. But if you miss a couple days of class your chances of getting an A get a lot slimmer. I got B's on two of the midterms and an A on the other, but the final was easier than any of them. I just barely got an A. Praise God

Dr. Cartier is, w/o a doubt, an amazing professor. He genuinely cares about his students' success & wants everyone to get an A. He makes class a lot easier by giving away a midterm question at the beg. of each lecture (show up early/on time) and also 4-5 answers to each midterm and the final if you show up early. Take all the notes on the board.

Nice guy. Don't need the text book, that was 80 dollars!!!!You HAVE to take notes or you won't pass. Get there on time because he'll give test questions the 1st two minutes. Test are kind of difficult.

Awesome professor! Truly passionate about anthropology which makes the class enjoyable. There is a lecture every day so attendance is important. The tests are open note and as long as you take good notes and follow his advice on how to do well, you will definitely get a good grade in the class. Highly, highly reccomend!!

tests are open book! he also gives out some questions if you come on time on the test day. Honestly, if you put in minimal work for this class, it's an easy A. But if you don't it can be hard. I had a friend who complained tests aren't coming from the notes. Take a good note! It's all in the note.

Open note test. What more can I say. Show up and write down the posted information and you'll pass. His test are multiple choice and the questions and answer are usually pretty obvious. Besides that, he has had amazing career and his lectures include fascinating stories about his work. You will be entertained and learning.

Tests are open note and come directly from the lecture notes. So if you took the lecture notes, you'll get As. Arrive early each morning and he'll tell you a test question. Even more, he gives you like 5 test answers on the day of the test. Super easy A. If anyone thinks this class is hard, good luck surviving college.

Super easy! Tests are open notes. He gives you a test question everyday, and basically goes over the entire test the day before the test. And on the day of the test, he tells you like 5 answers. Just take notes, and you're set.

He's a really interesting and knowledgeable guy. This is one of the rare classes where everything is easy, and you actually learn. He tells you on the first day that everyone should get an A in his class, and that if you don't get an A, you slacked off - which is absolutely true.

I love the way he teaches, he is very caring and funny. He is willing to explain if you don't understand. He shares many interesting experiences with us in class, which is very memorable. There's no homework for this class. He gives a mid-term question every day if you are early to class. Mid-term and final are open notes.
