Very hard grader
Ridiculous. He gives no partial credit for work on tests. Wrong answer, no credit, and all the problems are worth 10-30 points. Avoid this guy at all costs.
Syllabus was crystal clear, handouts covered all the test material, and the tests mimiced the homework and problems. Easy to understand and easy to execute.
Avoid this man. That is all I can say.
I learned a lot in his class, but I had to work very hard. It helps if you talk to him during office hours. He can be intimidating, but is really a fair guy.

ask questions in class. if you do the homework you shouldn't have a problem. hw is optional so do it and you will be fine. 3 tests, 10 quizzes, and a final. sarcastic, but funny.
The mana 28 class is hard as hell, the tests are only on his notes and the book is essentially worthless because it doesn't contain anything thats on the tests. Avoid him if possible!!
Hard class but learned a lot. MUST keep up with homework and ask questions on it if you don't understand. I am an absolute math****and managed a B. He is sarcastic but humerous and fair.
It's not an easy class, but Collins goes through all of the information very thoroughly. Do all of the homework and you'll have most everything done for the tests. His dry humor keeps class interesting. If you go in for help during his office hours, you'll be golden, and find out that he's an awesome guy.
Classes might be tough, but he will help you through it.
Not the easiest class in the world, but if you keep up with the homework, it shouldn't be a problem. Your grade is a mixture of quizzes, attendance, and tests, so if you really screw up on something it won't kill you.
His voice is kind of annoying and he makes random weird comments all of the time throughout class. It's mostly annoying. The class is doable but you have to care a lot! d2L quizzes every Monday and Wednesday are easy. Use excel a lot for quizzes but not on the tests.
Knows his stuff, awesome teacher.
great and weirdly funny professor, he is very clear and thorough and really cares about the class. quiz and attendance grades really help and the quizzes arent hard (most are take home). tests can be challenging but doable, just be sure to know vocab and concepts too. overall hes a great guy and really knows his stuff and wants you to do well.
Mr. Collins, your theories intrigue me. I wish to subscribe to your journal.
Good teacher. His quirks grow on you. Tests were tough but fair. Had him for two classes and enjoyed both of them. Well organized and knowledgeable.
A really good teacher. Gets the material across in a humorous way. I think although the class may seem long, he's a good teacher for it.
He knows what hes talking about, but is the most boring person i have ever met... ever. He takes 5 second pauses in between every sentence... and its harder to stay awake in class than it is to do the class... avoid at all costs
He is a terrific professor. He is such a nice guy, and he will help you whenever you need it. I would definitely recommend him. The course work isn't too bad, and there a lot of quizzes that help raise your grade.
most boring class of my life. unless you dedicate your life to the class, you won't get a good grade.
Extremely difficult class covering a lot of
Extremely demanding but at the same time fair. Very helpful, extremely smart on both subjects of math and stats. He tells you early you must bust your butt to get a good grade and he means it. Overall great professor
Terribly BORING, he will tell you to be happy to get a C in the class which he is very serious about. He is a nice guy outside of class but is very sarcastic and not funny at all. Tests are hard and his notes are impossible to follow.
very helpful class. If you do the homework, you will get a great grade. nice teacher.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Collins is unnecessarily difficult compared to other teachers. His lectures are tortuously boring, his tests span over more chapters, the online homework is harder, and he rarely gives any partial credit. This class is a GPA killer unless you want to devote an extensive amount of time to it. He enjoys when students fail.
Don't get me wrong, the class is hard, but the material is hard so it's not so much his fault. He's a good teacher who explains everything really well. Can get boring at times but overall he's helpful. Three tests, six in class quizzes, six take home quizzes and some online quizzes and a final. It sounds a lot worse than it actually is.
Avoid at all costs. This class will ruin your semester and hurt your gpa. Funny guy but this class is terrible. Online homework is terrible and so are the take home quizs.
Great professor! Taught stats in an easy and understandable way. just do the homework every night (even though it's not mandatory) and you'll do fine on the tests. Also if you do better on the final than another test it replaces that test score. take if you can!
Funny guy, bad teacher. His lectures were boring, his tests were very difficult, and his grading is almost unfairly harsh. If possible, take a different professor
A lot of people say his lectures are boring, but I loved prof. Collins dry sense of humor. Business Stats is much harder than normal stats, but he breaks it down in a reasonably understandable way. He gives you all the class notes on the first day, and you work through them throughout the semester. Don't miss the first online quiz!
I found him to be a great teacher. By the end of the semester, I actually enjoyed his humor. I ended up taking another math class he taught the following semester. If you do the homework, you will get a good grade. If you don't understand something, he will spend as much time with you as you need to get it right. Tests = tough, not impossible.
Avoid this class if possible. It made my tuesdays and thursdays so much longer. His tests were hard and so were the quizzes. The lectures were boring.
He is an incredibly challenging teacher. Avoid him at all costs. If you have him you MUST do the daily homework or else you will be lucky to receive a C. He is helpful but boring. Do anything you can to avoid this teacher.
BORING but if you do the homework and go to class then it isnt too bad. It is difficult but not impossible
Great guy, lots of dry humor which keeps the class worth attending. Attendance is not mandatory but he is a BIG believer in rewarding those who do the work so he gives attendance points which eventually count for a test grade. DO THE HOMEWORK, hw questions will appear on the test. Best way to succeed, find previous tests and do not fall behind.
I have taken both Ennis and Collins for stats, I learned way more with Collins. Through his style of using tables and formulas you will understand the logic compared to memorizing what buttons to push on your calculator. Taking Collins will make you more successful in future upper level business classes where stats is the basis for everything.
Funny guy! As long as you study for the tests this class is easy. He gives you all the notes for the entire semester which is helpful because you can just add to them during class. He teaches everything so that it makes sense. (Unlike Ennis who just teaches you how to use a calculator.)
If you do every single homework problem you will be ok for the class. The actual class portion is so boring. Its hard to keep focus.
His class certainly isn't easy, but as long as you do all of the homework and make sure you understand everything before the tests, it's not bad. I feel like I am much more prepared for upper level business classes. If you're willing to put the necessary effort in, I would take Collins over Ennis.
This was a difficult course but I really enjoyed Dr. Collins as a professor. He answered all questions in class and stayed late after class if anyone needed any more direction. Great guy,
legend in the making
Bob Collins is a legend. This is Bob Collin's world and we are all just living in it.
Tough professor but you learn a lot and he really cares about his students. Would recommend if you're willing to work hard.
It is not that hard, but class is boring.
reviewed problems on a board didn't actually teach
Legend
Hardest professor I've taken at MU. I haven't known anyone to get an A in his class. Be prepared to work hard. Even though the class is graded tough, you come out of that class learning a lot. Extremely great professor, just really tough on the grading.
WORST teach I have ever had in my life. I studied and did all the homework that took 4 hours plus the online assignments. Honestly avoid him at cost do not make the same mistake I did. My GPA is a 3.8 and I got a D in his class....
If put in work you may pass...
He is the toughest teacher I have ever had, I spent at least 3 hours doing the work for this class, everyday review and preview the class, but I still got D, which dont make any sense. His exams are tough that you could never imagine.
Hardest math class I have ever taken. I've never had any issue with math until this course. His tests are hard, and lectures are boring. There are quizzes pretty much every week, sometimes multiple quizzes a week. Avoid taking this class with this professor
Collins' is only MathStats prof in MBA program. Class is too much for one semester. Take these courses at another school. I did home work 15-20 hours per week and still had to drop twice. I wasted so much money on this MBA program, got A's in all other classes, but couldn't pass these. MU should offer another prof, I just don't connect with him.
Extremely difficult class. He brags about only giving 2 As in the prior semester. Expectations are way too high for undergrads not majoring in stats. Students should expect 2-3 hours of homework each night. Alright guy but I would avoid taking his class at all costs.
great guy, horrible teacher. does NOT curve. test averages were usually low 60s and still no curve or extra credit. worked extremely hard for a mediocre grade.
Bob Collins was the man. I hated the class the first half of the semester, but once I figured out his class structure and teaching style tests became much easier to study for. He lets you drop one test if your final is better than your lowest test. It saved my grade.
If you've ever wanted to learn statistics in the most convoluted way possible, this is your professor. If you've ever wanted to learn long complex formulas and take forever to do things, when you could just plug it into your calculator and be done in 5 seconds, this is the professor for you. He's a great guy, just not the best stats professor.
Breaks down concepts so that you can understand and takes time to make sure he answers all questions. Grade is based on weekly quizzes and two tests which are difficult.
Very nice guy who really breaks down the concepts. His tests are difficult but if you do the homework you should do okay. He will meet with you out of class even outside of his office hours.
Avoid Him! Makes very uncomfortable jokes and does not teach the class! If you don't sit in the front he assumes you don't care about the class. Teaches differently from the book but makes you do homework using the books way. Very confusing, tests are difficult. Very boring class. Most ppl end up dropping his class. Dont waste your time, TAKE ENNIS
Professor Collins is the best professor I've had at Marquette. He continuously makes an effort to meet with students and is a super nice guy. He even had time on Sunday nights to meet with him and ask questions. He assigns a lot of work but you don't have to do a lot of it. He's actually really funny and would take his class again
A really nice professor with great teaching skills. I took BUAD1560 (I don't find the right code), a 4-credit course, there may be a lot of homework, but there are helpful and the homework on the textbook will not be collected and graded. As long as you pay enough efforts to his class, and finish quizzes on time, it will not be a tough class.
He's got a great sense of humor and excellent teaching skills. If you don't go to class and half a$$ the work, you will fail.
I took BUAD 1560 with Collins. He is a nice guy but has a lot of forced jokes. if you don't show up to class or participate get ready for a sucky semester. You need to do the homework in this class or you will not pass. The class is not hard but you need to apply yourself for a good grade.
This class is definitely a tough class. However, Collins is a great professor and definitely cares about his students. He seems intimidating but he is really nice if you go into office hours. Make sure to do all of the homework and you will get a good grade in this class.
Class is a lot of work. First 2 tests are hard but the last 2 are a lot easier and none of the tests are cumulative. You also get a note sheet for the tests. Attendance is 50 points. Just do the homework/take home quizzes and bring the book to class.
I took him for BUAD 1560. He's a great teacher and really cares about students doing well. His class is hard, but if you put in the work and don't slack, you'll easily get an A. I would take him again.
Good guy, not the best teacher. Chooses to explain material in a difficult way. Group work everyday, so make sure you're doing the homework. First test is online, and the next three are pretty tough. It's a pretty boring class especially since it's so long.
Hardest class i have ever taken in 4 years of school. also lowest grade i have gotten. He throws the sink at you right from the begiining. So much material and get ready for non-stop HW. i am talking at least two hours a night every night. Tedious hw problems that will drive you crazy. Extremly boring and long lectures which also do nothing. AVOID
You need to work hard to get a good grade in this class. If you do not work, then you will fail his class. he is not a bad teacher, but he makes you do a lot of tedious work.
He talks for almost the full 1-hour 45-minute class, every class. We just go over the notes and he provides a few examples with each lecture. Must do all of the homework, MindTap assignments which are every Monday and take a fairly long time to complete. Get to drop one grade out of 7 total categories. Tough class and fairly boring class.
It's not an option but I had BUAD 1560 with Collins. First off I would say take any other prof for this class. I've maintained a 3.9 to this point and am still doing alright in this class, but it's ridiculous. Almost every point I've had taken off were for reasons even he can't explain, even when you have evidence against it. AVOID AVOID AVOID
STATS 1560 -WARNING- Students across the class will routinely loose points because, "It isn' the way I wanted it." It will not matter if you show that you understand the material. His grading criteria is whimsical, entire problems can be wrong for a 2 point loss, but not detrimental errors can cost 4 points, on 10 point quizzes. TAKE ANOTHER PROF.
do not take his class, bad from the second you walk in. as everyone else has been saying AVOID AVOID AVOID (at all costs)
Collins is the worst professor I have had at Marquette be far. Though he goes over problems in class, he does not explain them and expects students to just know what to do. Students with other teachers in the same class have a different curriculum and actually understand the material. WORK LOAD IS CRAZY. TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER!!! FIRE HIM MARQUETTE!
This class has been a horrible experience. Collins spends most of the class making jokes that leave the average listener uncomfortable and mildly offended. He's on the integrity board and brags about catching students. He makes fun of students who score poorly on tests. Worst grade I've ever gotten because I had to teach myself EVERYTHING!
Collins is a very interesting man. This class has an insane amount of homework so you have to be able to decide what's gonna help you the most. The grading is clear however he is very stingy on tests and takes points off for ridiculous things. First test online, last 3 in class aren't too hard if you study. Definitely have to work for your grade.
I took Professor Collins stats class last semester and found it to be my most challenging class of all my courses. The class was primarily Collins lecturing. I had a hard time understanding what he taught and he failed to teach it in a way that made sense. I cannot recall anything I learned in the class. Overall bad experience. Take another class..
Robert Collins was the worst teacher I have had at Marquette. Several students have had to drop his class due to the intense work load and have to end up taking a different professor the following semester. He is very hard to learn from and you will have to teach yourself everything. If you take him I wish you luck.
Robert Collins has been the single worst professor I have ever had. His grading doesn't make any sense and he assigns an unreasonable amount of work. Exams require an absurd amount of studying and are graded extremely tough. If he is your only option, wait a semester and get a different Prof. It's not worth it.
Worst Teacher I've ever had at Marquette University by far. Please avoid. Very Boring Lecture, Tons of HW, Extremely hard exams, and honestly just throws a grade at you when grading. You could have everything right and miss one thing and he'll give you a 4 on a 10 point quiz. Terrible. Jokes aren't funny and brags about catching students cheat.
Professor Collins is definitely ranked in my book as the hardest professor with a course that isn't easy. He relies on you to do all the homework that is in the book after every lecture. Doing homework for one night has taken me up to four hours to complete. The only thing semi easy about this course is the excel portion that he doesn't teach.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Miserable class and extremely confusing grading process. DO. NOT. TAKE!!! PLEASE, SAVE YOURSELF!
Mr. Collins is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Most teachers want the best for their students and want them to succeed. He actually hopes his students fail, it makes him laugh. He is rude, makes jokes about inappropriate topics, and treats you like you're stupid at office hours. Overall terrible teacher, and terrible person.
Most useless prof at Marquette. The only reason he's still teaching is tenure. I took this class and was at his office hours non stop and at least 2 hours a day studying and still failed the class. He says "you get what you put into this class". False. USELESS. If he is your advisor, I am so sorry. Email Krey now to switch.
Clearly thinks that he knows everything and was the slowest talker I have ever heard which was so frustrating, especially in a long class. He seemed like he didn't really care if we passed or failed, even made fun of students who received "shoe size" grades on exams. He did allow us to drop one test but had pop quizzes almost every class.
This class has a lot of work, but it is very manageable if you put in the time. The amount of work you put in will determine your grade. He has lots of opportunities to drop low grades. Every class is half lecture half group work. The class is also 4 credits instead of 3 so you should be spending a bit more time devoted to the class.
Funny and wacky dude.. but he warned he is the hardest teacher you will take. Im literally and engineering major now and Ive never taken a harder class than this business class. I spent close to 20 hours outside of this class each week doing his stupid online quizzes and his tests are extremely difficult. Average test grades were VERY low.
Avoid taking Bob at all costs. Do not get me wrong, he is a good guy. However, he makes the class much harder than it really is. Weekly homework assignments and multiple tests throughout the semester. Tests are really long and does not give you enough time!
CHANGE PROFESSORS ASAP. Collins does not care about you or your grade. The effort he puts into his lectures is minimal. The only reason I got a decent grade is because I took AP Stats in high school. Worst professor I've had BY FAR.
He is honestly a very sweet guy and he DOES CARE about you and your grades. He just does not put up with lazy people. He could explain things better which would make the class a lot easier but it is a class that YOU have to put the most effort in. He drops 2 of the 12 quizzes and he ALSO allows you to do an extra quiz to substitute one if needed.
Bob Collins. To start I will say avoid any of his classes at all costs. This man is extremely disrespectful and makes jokes about inappropriate topics. He is also a very terrible teacher. He does not explain topics, but rather just expects you to know them as he goes through class. Horrible professor, horrible person. Save yourself kids!
He gives very long homework that you might not finish before the next class, then there's a quiz each class on that homework. On top of take home quizzes. Exams are very long and tough. Sometimes the lectures feel even longer than the exams. If you've never taken a stats class before don't take him and try to get another professor or drop ASAP.
He is sweet but his class is unbelievably hard. I am not a good test taker, and that was our only grades for the class. He also gives quizzes every single class to "reward people for doing homework" rather than just having homework count. There are way easier professors, I would recommend trying to take this class with a different professor.
If you want to be miserable take his class. If you want to be sane avoid him at all costs. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
I rather go to prison than take his class again :(
Bob is a menace to society. He will burn down your families home to make sure you fail his class. Marquette should be embarrassed to employ this man.
Professors are supposed to be smart, but Robert Collins is as air-headed as they come. I sit in class wondering if he fell on his head as a child.
A lot of pressure is placed on you as the student to learn the criteria yourself. He makes no effort to simplify material that is difficult to understand. He moves very fast and does not teach with enough depth.
This is my last favorite class of all time. The teacher is horrible, and he makes perverted jokes and comments to the girls in class. This man should be fired
Super confusing and very heavy on small tedious assignments.
READ THIS REVIEW People have it all wrong about Collins, so here's what you need to know: Pros: explains material VERY clearly, allows questions, caring, drops tests and quizzes you do poorly on Cons: lecture heavy so stay focused all the time in class, homework frequent, quizzes frequent This man CARES about you. Don't sweat the class, j keep up
Do not understand the hate for Mr. Collins, almost dropped the class because I saw the reviews but am glad I did not. Only thing I disliked about the class was the extremely long lectures which got boring towards the end. Make sure to pay attention and do the homework and you will be fine. Also is available outside of class is easy to talk to
I feel that Robert Collins was a good professor. But after hearing how easy the other professor are it is really upsetting knowing I could've gotten an A in the class. He defiantly taught the class well. But also made the written test unnecessarily hard. I had any advice, I'd say to make sure you go in to see him during office hours. He loves that.
Took this class over the summer, and it was difficult to do it with the amount of information. However, Professor Collins gave us a lot of support in terms of grades and providing us with information. I would recommend not taking this class in the summer because it is alot but there are some benefits to it.
Avoid this professor. Talks incredibly slow and cracks unfunny jokes every other minute. The way he "teaches" his hour and 45 minute lecture is by writing on a singular piece of blank paper while using the recording projector to show the paper on the board. He uses no slideshow or any sort of technology to support the lecture. Do not take.
Bob is detrimental to society and should consider a different profession where his lack of skills is tolerable. He laughed, telling me that only 1 person passed his summer class.Marquette aims to maintain a high quality experience while employing individuals who lack the capabilities to teach.I envy those who never had to interact with him. AVOID
There were only 5 things that were graded in the class being the homework and 4 tests. He drops your lowest grade which is really nice. The lectures are very long and boring, but if you are able to pay attention in class it's easy to understand. The homework looks a lot like the tests, so its important for you to do the homework to do well
The GOAT. Super chill dude, and cares about your well-being. Don't believe the haters Bob Collins is the MAN.
Provided no help after class and was horrible at clarifying content during class. If one student understood the content, he would assume everyone does and moved on. There was constant homework and we moved through units so fast that we never had true time to comprehend what just happened.
Bob Collins has a specific teaching style, but engaging with it pays off. The long lectures can be boring, but stay focused and the content clicks. Homework and Unstuck ai were key for acing the exams. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
