Funny guy, although I do not recommend taking a summer class with him. There are a few papers in a short amount of time.

He is an excellent teacher. BUT take his course only if you have a lot of time(taking 9 credits max) at your disposal....very strict abt. attendance....assignments(very particular)...

Took his SUMMER Amer. Lit. course. Only a 6 week class. Handouts and syllabus are mostly web-based. He usually drops lowest grade and optional final (based on prev. grades) He likes in class essays. Gives extra pts for in class discussions & attendance

6-week summer class requires focus and dedication. Excellent teacher, will help you if you ask, but clear enough that you shouldn't have trouble. Take his class if you want to LEARN, do not take it just to fulfill a requirement. He is FAIR, not an easy A.

Professor Como has very interesting lectures, and actually is willing to help students with concerns. He will make exceptions for students if they actually deserve it and work for their grade. i got a B (i could have had an A, but i got lazy on the last essay). dont take if you cant write essays

Como is AWESEOME! Out of my fours semesters at NOVA I took hime for three because he is a really great teacher...especially for literature. He makes things interesting and tells some really cool stories...he's also really fair and explanitory with grading.

Great Teacher! I thought he was an easy grader! If you have an A and you miss less than a certain number of classes you do not have to take the final! A lot of essays!

Took him for summer class, was very helpful and very cooperative with students. His class was not that hard, you had to do a lot of assignments in a real short time, but its a summer class so it was okey. His grading was very fair, and he is lenient incase you get a bad score. Overall, he is one of the best Professors at NOVA.

i hate english and i'm horible at it but dr. como made it fun. i learned so much in that class and i would highly recommend him.

Como is a fun teacher. Show up to class, listen to him, read the assignments, and try your best on the essays and you will do great. He really wants you to learn the material and understand it - all while having a good time.

I had personal problems the first week of classes (Murphy's Law), and Dr. Como has been nothing but helpful about helping me ease into his curriculum... Very blunt and to the point... Great teacher, will take the time out to help you if you need it...

This is the best english teacher (if not overall teacher) I have ever had. I hate englsh but I got my first A in his class and I have gotten A's in english since. He helped me so much and was very fair. Read the assignments and work on your essays. He is great.

The Best Eng teacher ever. Very helpful. Eventhough you are going to be lost for the first week with his CPO'S, FWA'S, CD'S, RV'S, AWR'S, and etc. dont worry TAKE him. its only the first week that you be lost just a little. youll get used to it.

This is a great teacher, very helpful. He listens and cares about whether or not you pass the class. He is not easy, you do have to work for a good grade. But this is one of my favorite teachers, ever.

Very nice teacher, he's probably one of the best English teacher you will find. His online syllabus and other assignments can be a bit confusing at times, but after the first few weeks you catch on and the class turns to cake. Very helpful to the students, you also do cool group responses which help with your papers!

I had Dr. Como three yeares ago, and it still seems like yesterday I was inhis class. I am a senior at George Mason University, and everything I learned in english is from Como! Professors at Mason keep asking me who I had english from, because they are impressed with how well I write...that is thanks to Como!

Como is by far the best teacher ever. He is what all other teachers should work to be. I took lesmen for 111 and got a D. Took Como for 112 and got an A. He's not too big on attendance but it helps, he keeps you entertained in lectures and shows you what he wants and how to do it. Very clear, very helpful, very fair. Awesome teacher!

Professor Como was the best english teacher I have ever taken. He really enjoys his job and will help anyone out. He makes the class interesting and does not waste it either.

Dr. Como will tell you on the first day of class that nobody gets an A on his class and will try to convince you that a C is a good grade. He is also very strict and likes to surprise you with quizes. I felt like I was in the military at times. Class is boring since he reads the syllabus to you every day. I learned a lot though. Make your decision.

So easy. All you do is read stories, books, etc. and then you write your opinions and analisys of them. That's the exams. As long as you read and comprehend the material you'll get an A. With my extra credit I finished with like 130%. He loves the material too and makes the lectures very fun and interesting. Great teacher!

Como is an awesome teacher who actually cares about what he teaches. His lectures are great and he incorporates the students feedback into his teachings for discussion. He isn't an easy teacher but more importantly he's fair and thats what really matters. You actually come out feeling good about the "A" you earned instead of it just being given.

Dr. Como is awesome. I had him for 241 and 242. The reading is a little boring but he makes it very interesting. You have to read the readings which are boring but class goes by a lot faster if you do. Hes a great teacher

Dr. Como is awesome. Eng 242 is basically storing reading. If you can read stories and understand them, you will get a good grade in his class. If you wanna be his fav student(like I was) you MUST always comment on stories you read-participate(honestly I got a B in the class without even havin a text book)do this and he will love u.

Dr. Como is a mature diligent, helpful, and commendable instructor. I took his English 212. If you follow his instruction and do your reading and writing as specified, you can be sure sure of "A" Grade in his class. He prepares you from the first day. Just take him serious.

Dr. Como is the best professor ever. He is stricky, however, if you follow his syllabus, guide line, attendance on time, submit on time all assignments, show your effort to study in his class, you will be fine. He organizes every thing very well carefully. He grades easy. I love him. I wish every teacher in this NVCC wonderful as he is.

Dr. Como is a strict teacher. He is excellent at teaching and gives you plenty of opportunities to improve your papers. If you really want to learn something in english, take him.

Como is a cool teacher..i love his class..he is super orangized...first week of school is alot to take in but don't be discouraged..u only write 3papers in his class. if u do group response and instructor reviews you will do well.he tries to make the class fun but he talks alot.Overall i think hes one of the best english teachers i have ever had!!

For those who say you cant get an A or B in his class is lying!! I got an A and a lot of people in my class got A's and B's! Yes he is a strict teacher but he is really nice and his classes are fun when you read and join in the class discussion!! If you read you will get A's on the quizzes and he gives extra credit on EVERY quiz!!

he is very nice and easy in grading. Just make sure you get the idea and read what he told you to read. As long as you follow him, you will get an A even though you might be a international student like me. Very good class to take

Dr.Como is a tough one.please go to the learning lab for assistance,it will help.Ask him to also review your paper before you turn it to me.He is helpful and very friendly.His grading on the other hand is hard,you'll have to do like 5 or 6 reviews to receive an A.Overall,he is a great teacher.

Hes a very good teacher. expects you to do the reading and participate. exams are very simple and straight to the point. do everything that you're suppose to do and you won't have a problem passing with an A. but if you're lazy-stay away

I took Dr. Como's class a few semesters back for my general English classes. Looking back, I think he was probably one of my best professors. His tests were really good, they tested what you took from the material and made you sort-of argue your case. It was a good class.

I loved his class. I did receive an A also. I also took the honors option. He's very interactive with his class and I enjoyed it very much.

Fantastic teacher! Do the reading because there are surprise quizzes that are pretty easy as long as you read the reading assignment. Attendance, and being on time are important to Dr Como, don't be late! He's also very generous, in my opinion, in grading the exams.

Great teacher. Really enjoyed his class. Dr. Como gives you every opportunity to excel. Do the work and attend class and you will get an A.

Fantastic teacher. Straight forward on assignments, generous on exams, and generous on grading in general. Didn't even need to take final exam. makes literature interesting.

I wouldn't say this class is an "easy A" but if you put a good amount of effort you will do well. Como tells you what he expects. Do the reading and he drops 5 lowest quizzes. The exams are essays. I learned a lot about lit in this class. I would definitely recommend him!

He is a great teacher, but for eng 111 he can be real tough. If you work really hard and attend class everyday, you'll be fine. If your a person who is not willingly to work hard on his essays don't take him. His quizzes were easy though and his class is not an easy A. You must put work in his class. This class was the most time-taking class for me

Great Class!I learned a lot!There is a lot of reading!Class is discussion based so Dr.Como makes it interesting.2 tests n 12 pop quizzes-true/false and fill in the blank answer.He takes the 8 highest quiz scores.The reading can be boring at times but you leave the class with an appreciation for three time periods.Got an A!Take him he loves eng 241

He is a very strict and hard teacher. Difficult to get an A in his class. It is only a 3 credit course but it will take up A LOT of your time to do well in his class. Avoid Como if you care for your GPA. Otherwise you'll learn by sacrificing your grade.

GREATEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. If you put forth the effort, you will do well. Read the stories, pass the quizzes. Final isn't mandatory and up to the students. I LOVED Dr. Como.

Wonderful instructor! Take the time to read the syllabus and other material very closely. He is crystal clear about his expectations and requirements. Follow his guidelines, especially about revising your papers and undergoing peer review multiple times, and you will do fine. There are no surprises here--if you pay attention to details.

Awesome teacher. Reading can be boring and long, but he makes it interesting. 2 tests, final is optional as long as you are happy with your grade. Had 15 "SUQ's" (pop quizzes) but he dropped 8 of them. 3 Study guide, takes highest grade. Very passionate about his class. Got an A, loved this class.

GREAT PROFESSOR! I hate to read let alone breakdown material. But Prof. Como is very interactive with the class and made Eng Lit FUN! I would say the reading is moderate. His sneaky quizzes were simple if you read the stories. (can't just skim over). Takes top 7 quiz grades out of 12 and Final is optional if you are happy with your grade!

Great professor, loved his class. He pretty tough on paper grading. He also gives a lot of grammar quizzes and sneaky announced quizzes. READ!READ! READ! and you'll do great! He's awesome! Taking him for 241.

He is a very easy. All you have to do is attend class & read the literature. He will give pop quizzes and you only have to take 2 of 3 exams. Very easy class

Professor Como is very eloquent in class. We talk about the short stories that we have read and he keeps the discussion very interesting. He hasn't made me sleep in class so far. His pop quizzes are not difficult as long as you read the assigned hw.

Dr. Como covered for my ENG 125 professor for 2 weeks and all I can say is that he is one of the nicest professors on this campus!! He was very clear on the assignments he wanted us to do and was very involved and helpful!! I'm going to miss him covering for my class!!

He is an amazing teacher. He made me love attending class, and actually put some effort into his class. I recommend a 100%

Great professor and person. Numerous quizzes based off of readings from the book. Very easy to pass if you read the stories and understand the characters, plot, setting, etc. Two tests with the third test being the final exam which is completely optional. No papers or essays during the semester. Highly recommend.

Very nice professor however his grading scale is not the best. I did very well on all quizzes and even if you score well on all of them he still drops 3 quizzes. By him doing so I went from a high B to a C. I was only 4 points away from a B. I attended every class except for one. Good professor but bad grading system.

The professor is really clear at describing the literature that we are given to read. His assignments aren't hard, you just have to read the material. If you read the assignments and try to read some analysis you will pass the quiz he gives out easily and pass the course.

Dr. Como is an excellent professor, I enjoyed participating in his class every week. As long as you keep up with the readings you won't have a problem. He does give you SUQ's (sneaky unannounced quizzes), 2 exams with the third as optional. Probably one of the best American Literature professors on campus.

Dr. Como was always prepared for class. Most of the grade was from a quiz given nearly every class- which helped motivate me to read all the homework. Lectures were great, he really knew how to guide the students to have a discussion about the reading assignment. Outstanding feedback. Charming man who cared for his students. Did the work got an A

Overall, a great professor. Dr. Como wants to his students to succeed - but he will make you earn your grade. He gives a quiz almost every class and has a strict attendance policy. He is a tough grader on the final essay but offers several chances for revision before the final deadline. He is upfront and clear from day one.

All you need to do is read the assigned stories before the class, and ready for pop quizzes and discussion. He respects your opinion about your readings, and gives good feedback. There're only three exams, and the final's optional. There'll be many quizzes about the readings, but you should be fine as long as you read the story. No paper.

Read the book and show up the class. He gives quizzes on reading assignment every week, and drops the lowest from each segment: fiction, drama, poem. He also respect student opinion, and gives you good feedback. It's well organized introductory literature class. No paper. Just quizzes and exams.

Dr. Como is a really great professor. He gives Sneaky Unannounced Quizzes almost every class, so reading is a must, but he lets you drop your lowest grade. Two exams, optional final, and many quizzes. All part of your grade. Highly recommend him.

Professor Como was awesome. He's absolutely hilarious and makes reading old literature enjoyable. Make sure you read and be prepared to discuss. During discussions, mention your interpretation of the literature and its meaning/relevance. Overall, he was an excellent professor and I would take him again.

I took ENG241 American Lit with Dr. Como. It was a little difficult at first because we read from 1600 English, but it got easier as we got into the 1700's and 1800's. There is almost a quiz every class on the readings, however he only takes your highest three scores from each time period. There are two exams and the third is optional.

I took him a few semesters back and this one of those teachers that absolutely influences and inspires. He got me so interested in the stories and really just opened my eyes to things. Great professor!

Dr. COMO is an awesome educator, he truly cares about his subject and his teaching, he gets the students engaged in classroom throughout the class. I learned about Literature tremendously in his class and I hated reading and specially Literature. TIPS, READ the Material, 10/10 you will have a Sneaky Unannounced Quizzes or SUQs.

Don't expect to skid by without doing the reading. Classes are discussion-based from the homework we read every night. Lots of pop quizzes (not that difficult) you can't make up so be ready & attend regularly. Dr. Como is a very sweet and intelligent man, I enjoyed the class.

Professor Como is a very nice, caring, and laid back professor. He tells you at the beginning of the semester of the do's and dont's. You dont have to write at all. You literally show up to class, talk about the story you read and go home. There are no essays and the stories he assigns are short. I highly recommend taking this professor!

Dr. Como is a sweet professor who just loves literature. He hands out reading guides, do these and you'll get an A. His quizzes are little specific so take your time reading. The tests are more general.

LOVED HIS CLASS! He's great! He's as strict as high school teachers about attendance, tardiness, cell phone use, and leaving the class. The SUQs are the ONLY way you can earn points. READ CAREFULLY. Read the story the night before the quiz so its fresh in your mind. Then go to class early & reread it/read sparks & anticipate possible questions

Great professor, great class. I learned a lot in his class. No need for the book. 10 Qzs & 2 exams. Clear grading and 10 points of extra credit. Go for him and I HIGHLY recommend him.

I would adopt him as my grandpa if i could, but he's retiring so i don't think that's possible :(

I loved this class so much. Professor Como is amazing , caring, and very passionate about what he does. He is such a great professor who truly cares about his students and what he is teaching. He invites questions and discussions and never thinks anything is a dumb question. I would take him again if I could.

Mr. Como is truly an amazing educator. He's what every professor at NOVA should try to be like. He is passionate, caring, and makes his lectures interesting. He actually cares about the student unlike most teachers at NOVA. He's retired now. BEST PROF !

His lectures are simple and interesting, his quizzes and tests have few questions and are easy, homework and reading assignments aren't too much and are also manageable, class was fun. There are many pop quizzes but, as long as you don't miss too many classes and you pay attention you don't have to worry. They're very simple. TAKE HIM!!!
