He is a nice teacher. He speaks soft tho. So be sure seat in front. Ask him for help during lab hour. He is helpful.
sigh, mr. conover was great. sure, there is work involved, but come on, he'll help you every step of the way. doing a little bit of work isn't so hard. if you're not so good at biology, he is the teacher to take because he is kind and loves his subject.
he looks like bill gates, and teh class is hard man.
He's very good at making general biology as uncomplicated as possible without dumbing it down. Do the study guides and pay attention in lab and you'll do fine. He's a nice guy, and great at his subject.
ANY TEACHER THAT GIVES YOU A STUDY GUIDE FOR ALL THE TESTS SHOULD BE EASY COURSE, AND IT IS. IF YOU DONT GET A GOOD GRADE IT IS YOUR OWN FAULT. AS FAR AS THIS TEACHERS ABILITIES TO ENGAGE A STUDENT IN HIS FIELD--BORRRRIING.
bill gates #2 is sooo kind. hes not hard at all compared to the other bio teachers... the only bad thing is that its really easy to fall asleep in his class but the labs are fun. hes not a bad teacher at all.
I didn't get a good grade in his class, but that was my fault. His looks remind me of Steven King. He's a decent teacher, boring, but decent. He gives you a study guide before every exam which is awesome, too bad i didn't take advantage of it.
WOW Can u say boring? He's not a bad teacher but it's hard to get an "A" or a "B" in that class. Every four chapters he gives a test, which makes it hard. But overall, he's hard, boring, looks like Bill Gates, and thinks his Bio jokes are funny. :( I really don't think so!!
This guy is a total science nerd. He's dedicated his life to science and he knows his stuff. The study guides he gives for the tests are life savers. You're stupid if you don't take advantage of them. Overall, he's a bit boring, he's helpful and not too hard. Good teacher!
He is an awsome professor and explains very well. He's knowledgeable and very intelligent. This instructor loves his subject and is very good at it. He is NOT boring at all. GREAT PROFESSOR!
Class is the best, labs are interesting especially the one at the zoo, also Conover is cool and looks like Bill Gates
This class is b-oring. If you can sit through a lab, you can sit through ANYTHING. Take advantage of the study guides and drink plenty of red bull; you should have no problem. Class is not a breeze, but still do-able.
exelent teacher.
I was very scared in taking Bio, but Mr. Conover made it an excellent experience for me. He gives you study guides and they're VERY helpful. STUDY THEM! Read the lab manuel before going to labs, you'll have a quiz every lab session. I loved this class.
Conover is a very nice man. He really knows biology and teaches it well. But I think he is a little too hard on students, cuz this is not a major class. He really does expects students to know the smallest details and elements in bio, which is not cool. Other than that, u gotta work to get on A.
The thing to know about this professor is that he knows what he teaches. My advice is to sit close to the front so one doesn't fall asleep. Study the notes. I cannot express how important they are. study also the questions in the back of the book. He is a fair grader, and if one doesn't pass is for not trying.
I took Biology 122 in the summer. I went in expecting the worst and came out with the best. Dr. C is an excellent professor, he knows what he's doing and he is always willing to help. In fact, he appreciates students who ask questions and seem to be interesting the subject. The study guides are super helpful, study them! Study notes, pass calss
I got like a 99.4 in the class, go to class, listen to him, read the chapters and you will easily get an A.
this guy is the most boring teacher ive ever had in my entire life. i kept falling asleep. he's an ass to people he doesnt like. my favorite moment in his class was when i proved him wrong on an experiment. have insomnia? take his class
OK. Look, this guy is an ****. I'll tell you why. he's too much into himself, he looks at you like you're stupid, and he's the smartest person in the world. Just because you have memorized everything verbatum out of the book, doesn't meen you're a good teacher. And i hate it when he moves his upper lip, what's that all about dude? Get a life.
THE WORST TEACHER EVER!
Im the one that got 99.4 %, I had to write back to these comments. Biology is hard, just kus you get A's in English or Comp Science, u wont get an A in Bio. Its Hard! Try hard and you will get an A. Dont try hard and you will have a bad grade and ****. If your dumb, dont take the class. If you are serious about school than you will love this class
This guy may be boring, but he teaches the material well. He does go thru the lectures quickly, but its in the book. When it came to labs, it was boring in the beginning b/c he'll explain everything altho u know it already. Just read the book & dont copy everything from his notes & u'll do fine. Depending on how hard u work, it can be an easy A!
He treats bio 122 like its 101. HELLO! THIS IS BIOLOGY FOR NON SCIENCE MAJORS, RELAX. He overloads us non science majors with all this pish posh we will never use. I hate this class even though i am doing well.
Umm yeah. First thing when I talked into the class was I thought the teacher was going to teach Microsoft 101 or something cuz the teach looks like Bill Gates. But the teach goes pretty fast through all the notes and stuff and he uses Power Point a lot. Lecture is boring, but the labs are pretty fun. And tests are pretty hard.
non-science majors class.. info overload.. but this teacher knows what he is talking about and he is funny in a sarcastic way.. looks like bill gates :P
One of the best biology instructors ever. The class requires lots of reading but hey its Bio. I would recommend him.
He is a good teacher and he teaches well. his tests are clear and straight forward with extra credit on the tests. mostly its multiple choice with some essay Qs. this class requires lot of reading and memorizing, if you do that you'll be fine.
Super nice. Super helpful. Extremely patient. This class requires a lot of reading and memorization. It is kind of hard for non-English speakers. But, He makes this hard class easy for them by helping them during office hours. If non-English speakers study everything in the book and study guides, you will get an A for 100% sure.
Not a hard teacher, but there are so few tests that just one slightly lower grade will make a big impact on your entire grade. Very monotonous so it's hard to pay attention in his class. He gives out study guides to the lecture examinations so that helps. Good teacher but he makes it quite boring.
All you need to do is go to class and pay attention. Class can be boring if you aren't 100% focused but your doing biology as a major, what did you expect? If you understand what he is talking about in his lecture reading the book will be much easier. I went to class everyday and used the book as a supplement to what I learned.
boring class just read and ull be good ,didnt learn a damn thing from him though ur book is everything,he tries to screw students over alot though so be careful on tricky questions he wants alot of details
Lectures can get really boring.
one of the easiest teachers. lectures can gwet boring, but just pay attention you don't have to take notes, listen in class, read the book, do the study guide (in detail), go over the study guide with him, and I guarantee your "A". lab comes with its own lecture-thats the most boring-, but the lab isn't hard
This guy is so boring im in his class right now and if my laptop was not here id die of boredom. he does not know anyithing he just memorizes the book if any 1 is a bio major, and u take him u will lose hope this guy is HORRIBLE k class ended the best time of the day
Dr.Conover is a nice guy, he could be weird at times, but i guess , he is not that bad compared to some of the other instructors. Lectures are boring, and you will have to read the book, beacuse his notes won't help as much. His tests are very easy, it's multiple choice, short essays, and one long essay. Just make sure to read the book.
Don't blame the prof. The fact is that many students don't care 2 learn how life works. If it is more important 2 go home early, don't register, leave room 4 those that care 2 learn.I enjoyed his class & is not my major. It's amazing 2 know that while I'm writing this post 100s of things are happening in my body and those organisms around me.Got an A
I dont know why people are complaining about the class being boring. It's all biology and science. do you expect to feel like you are in a striptease club? The guy is dull, but his tests are easy if you study. OVerall good class. Take him, spend time studying the chapteres and A is guaranteed if you study well. By the way, He is Bill gates' cousin.
Dr. C is a good guy, but his lectures do get a little a dry sometimes. His jokes are lame, but the tests are easy, given that you study for them. Lab lectures are super long, but extremely helpful when it comes to taking the practicals. Be specific when answering test questions, though -- he's a stickler for points. Overall, a decent teacher.
Dr. Conover is a very nice guy and very knowledgeable. His tests are not chellenging if you come to class and actually listen to his lectures. yes, the lectures may seem useless and boring but that's just the nature of the class and if you can't stand a bio 101 lecture for an hour then i would suggest changing your major!.
Boring. You need to bring a pillow during the lectures because you definitly gonna need it.
Dr. Conover is one of the best professor I had at GCC. If you listen and study, you will do well on the exam. His lectures are extremely important so attending class is MUST. His tests are very reasonable if you study. Got high A percentage in class.
I don't know why the hell are you checking this website? Is not there only one teacher for this class? This class is fair, if you study well, you will get you A! The teacher is boring! whenever you go to his office, he kinda wants to kick you out! All i can say is its just fair. THe teacher sucks and he is not guilty for that.he was meant to be.
U have to attend every single lecture..sit all the way in the front n write every single word u see or hear and ull do great.. he is cold blooded but he makes things very simple and understandable. he is wonderful. p.s. i had an interesting dream bout him lol
He isn't very helpful. The book will be your best friend. Go an A in his class.
Read the book and take notes. Fair grader. Class is boring if you're not interested in biology but he's really not that hard.
I think this class is extremely difficult for people who doesn't have much background with Biology and Chemistry. Bascially class is divided into 3 groups: AP students, foreign students who already knew the material, and those who really try hard to pass the class. By the end of the term, only the first two rolls in the middle section was filled.
Its an extremely hard class?!! common guys give me a break. you don't need any background, i mean i hope you know that there is a such thing as a cell. Its not hard, its bio 101 for crying out loud. Just read a little and if you have a tiny amount of curiosity (i hope u do) you'll ace the tests. And don't tell me its boring, your a bio major!
He is so hard. He stares at you the whole time during tests to make sure your not cheating. He gives so many quizzes, tests and labs and they are soo hard. Half the class was dropped by mid semester. He has no facial expression and his class is extremely boring, you always get sidetracked.
Conover is really boring and he makes students memorize more than they should for tests. He gives study guides and if you study off of those and read you will do good in the class. He can be anal at times. Avoid taking him for 122 because you will be so drained, especially in the summer. Take someone easier like Cornish or Kretzmann.
This class is really easy-- it's biology, not physics! I had over 100% in the class. There is extra credit on every exam. The final is weighted the same as all other exams. Go to class, read the book, and you'll get your A. I really learned a lot and enjoyed the class too.
He is a great teacher but should not teach in the summer because he is too difficult. It is just too much information to learn in a short matter of time. He can be very boring at times and is very picky. His tests are not very hard and he gives a study guide before each test which really helps to prepare for tests. Memorize the guide and do great.
I really enjoyed his class - I took it during the summer and it was really interesting. I've heard past reviews that he's boring, but the individual must have lacked interest in the subject itself.
Semi-hard class, but you do have to work for your grade. He gives study guides before each exam. If you do those, read the chapters in the book as well as the many notes you take during class, you will do well. He is extremely helpful and funny. I'd recommend him.
The most boring teacher...his tests and quiz are very hard. He quiz you every week. Basically your grade depends on your quiz and test score..DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
someone please ask gcc to hire a new bio professor!
Dr. Conover is an excellent professor; if you're looking for an easy "A", want to skip a few classes, or text, Twitter or check Facebook during lecture, then find someone else. If you want to learn some cool stuff and have a good time, he's your man.
If you study really hard, know the book inside and out , take alot of notes you still will have trouble taking his exams. He asks you question that you would not even imagine. Boring, condescending,etc... Labs are long and semi hard. TEST are50 multiple choice,10-7 shorts answers and big essay(has to be in detail and whatever he thinks is right).
Dr. Conover is a pretty chill teacher. A bit of a dork at times but in a fun way. His study guides for the exams are pretty much on the money. Like any other Biology class it is hard have 2 be discipline read the book to understand the material and take plenty of notes but he makes the class fun and easy to comprehend. I highly recommend him....
Took bio 122 during the summer. The class itself is hard but his notes help. Just study and you'll do ok. His test are not that hard... at least for me they weren't.
Dr.Conover is one of the best professors in GCC. I mean if you want to know what Biology is, he is your answer. One you take his class, you can see the world of organisms, evolutions, revolutions, etc. If you expect to get A without studying hard, do not bother to be a student. His exam is reasonable enough for a good student to get A.
Dr. Conover is very intelligent and knows his biology inside and out. That being said, his lectures can become very monotonous and boring. Additionally, he can seem condescending to students who ask him questions. He lacks the social skills required to be an engaging professor. However, the course, lab, and his exams are fair and straightforward.
all powerpoint slides in class, no handwritten notes. his lec is more like presentations.never use book in class.tests are 50 multi chiose+ abt 4 short answers+1 essay question. if you can remember every single detail in the book, you dont even need to go to the lecture. there are 2 lab practical exams which are easy.a very hard class.i dropped
This professor is useless, condescending, and a sorry excuse for a human being. I LOVED biology until I took his class. I dropped this class because of his attitude toward his students. Sadly GCC doesn't have another bio 101 professor so if you have to take bio 101 GOOD LUCK! I plan on taking this class at a later time elsewhere.
wowww boring teacher ever and does not make learning fun. has a bad attitude wen asking ?s or if u need help. hard class and tests as well. I would not recommend him especially if u r not a bio major
Honestly, after reading comments on here I was reluctant to take the class, but looking back now I can say... he's not THAT bad. If you think he's really hard and you're a bio major, SWITCH MAJORS. Getting an A is challenging, but achievable. His tests are fair & straightforward, lab is easy, not a great lecturer, but he's their to help just ASK.
First of all Dr. Conover is a great human being, and he is very inteligent. The only problem with his class is his tests; if Bio is your major than you should be fine, but if this class is just part of your GE, than try someone else,
This man is very hard and he does not curve. I felt like my will was being challenged while being in this class. I find him to be very difficult and hard to learn from. He will trick you by adding more information that was not taught in the class. I suggest to have a different bio teacher. Biology is not suppose to be that darn hard. It's life.
Dr. Conover may be a good scientist but definitely not a good professor. His tests are tricky and he expects you to write a formal, detailed essay on top of 55+ multiply choice questions and few short answer questions. If you have other things to do than dedicate your whole time on bio, I suggest u to take the class somewhere else
To Below Commenters: If you want to criticize your professor, at least "try" to be appeared as an intelligent person. Your grammar is very lousy, and it makes the reader disagree about what you'd like to confer. Dr. Conover's class is very challenging. However, it is possible to get an A, if you dedicate reasonable amount of time to study.
The person commenting below was probably Gago.
Don't get discouraged by the stupid comments. In the beginning I was so scared of this class bc of the comments I read here. But, its not THAT bad !..if you're willing to put time and study, you will get an A !..Record him since he actually gives out most of the multiple choices' answers in his lectures which so many ppl found boring and useless an
This professor is good, his notes are clear...Pay attention. He enjoys what he teaches. therefore if you have questions and are interested not just in the subject but in actually learning to pass the class he's helpful.
Quite possibly the best teacher at GCC. He is tough, but he gives out all the answers during class IF YOU PAY ATTENTION. I've learned so much from him. I decided to take the USMLE for fun to test my knowledge and I answered 7/10 correct and all 7 of those answers I learned because of him. This man is brilliant when it comes to Bio and is helpful!
If you can manage to stay awake in his class, you should be fine. He talks in monotone, its as if he just blabs on and on, and he'll never look you in the eye. Again, if you can manage to stay awake and take notes then you'll pass with an A easy... I kept falling asleep because of his monotone voice, but managed to pull through at the last week
I don't know why students are complaining he's difficult. He is one of the easiest biology professor. He gives you a study guide on every test, that tells you exactly what is on the test. If you think he's hard, you will have a lot more troubles in the higher classes. Just take him, you won't regret it.
I loved bio until I took his class. It's not that he makes thing hard, it's just that he drains all the excitement from you so you start to hate the subject. Its hard to stay awake during lectures so the book was my only source. Good luck!
Stares to the left while he teaches.. he will drain the BIO out of you. super boring and does not take the subject like a fun subject the way Bio should be. dont take him. you will regret like i did. :((
He knows his stuff, but he's rather boring. He is very picky about the answers and short answers especially have to be very specific. Also his voice is soft, so pay extra attention or sit in the front. His tests Can be hard, but getting an A is certainly doable if you put in the effort. Study guides for every test, noncumulative final.
If you've taken AP bio in high school or an intro class, then go ahead and take him. Unlike me, bio Is a new thing for me and he bored the living heck out of me. Bio is supposed to be fun and exciting. Don't take him he is the worst teache at GCC. He may be knowledgeable but gesture can't teach anything.
I'm confused how could GCC choose this guy to be the division chair. I didn't know with whom should I talk to complain about him. He's extremely boring, unhelpful, doesn't care about the students. He gives study guides for every test which is basically the whole material. Maybe ha has good information, but he doesn't know how to teach.
He is not that bad. Listen to his lectures carefully, and you will be fine.
Please do not take this instructor. I have studied a lot, but I ended up with a B. His class is very boring, and he does not care about his students. If you care about your academic success, do not take him.
The bio textbook will be your best friend. You have to read it more than once. Record his lectures. He gives away some questions from the test. READ the chapters before lecture so you know what he's talking about. This class is gonna be a challenge. I dropped this class last year and retook him again and got an A. Hard work truly does pay off.
This is a science course & requires a lot of focus & hard work. If you are pre-med you need to expect these types of classes. Pay attention to details, read read read & read. Do the study guide, go to SI & make sure you really understand everything. Do this and you'll get an A. You haven't chosen an easy profession so get used to the difficulty. GL
It's a hard class but if you study really hard an A is possible. I had no bio background but ended up with an A. I used to read and highlight the book sentence by sentence because you just don't know whats gonna be on the test. I would highly suggest recording lecture and lab because he does give away test questions!
Listen to his lectures.
He is uncaring. If you have a confusion, and he feels like not helping you, he won't. Lectures are very monotonous; he won't say what to study. I took an intro bio class at GCC with a different professor (much harder than him); it was enjoyable, it made me wanting to learn bio. Conover is just uncaring. Avoid if you can. Low quality.
He's extremely monotone, so you will fall asleep in class. I changed my major because of this class. But, he actually explains well if you ask him questions in person.
Take this course at a different college or else you will change your major and get discouraged.
It's a bio class, required lots of reading and memorization. His lectures are monotone and boring most of the times, but it gives you some exam questions. The study guide for each exam is useful. Although you've to spend lots of time for lab report and his very restricted to sign it complete, it only worth 1% of your grade!!! Study, study, Study
Cannot say enough bad about this professor. STAY AWAY FROM HIM IF YOU LIKE BIOLOGY. He made me (and pretty much everyone else in my class) change my major. He is monotone, unwilling to help, and nearly impossible to deal with. READ READ READ each section multiple times to barely understand. LAB is even worse. Take this at another school.
TERRIBLE grader. He knows his subject, but you're going to have to literally read his mind and give him the answer he's thinking to get full credit. He'll find any excuse not to give you full credit. Even the textbook "isn't specific enough." Definitely doesn't treat it like an intro class. Cool guy to talk to, horrible professor to take.
He knows what he is doing. Exactly. You need to know what you are doing. Exactly. If you could drive, then you might want to take Nora Sullivan's biology class in Glendora, CA. A friend of mine took his 10 units of biology at CSUN, and he graduated from NYU with a radiology residency. Try CSUN. Or take this class Pass/No Pass just for IGETC.
Your book is your bible this semester. Every sentence matters. I read every chapter twice and literally memorized every word. Do not underestimate lab exams as there are only 2 and worth 30 percent of your grade. Sit in the front. Don't rely on anyone's word. I worked very hard for this class. I did get an A. BOOKBIBLE can't emphasize that enough.
No care for students at all, it's so inhuman to act such a way. So discouraging, that my major is now changed although I love biology. GCC needs to re-evaluate their biology chairman actually start caring about their student population!!
For Conover's class, you should study intensely!!!!!!!!!! The grading rubric is a bit on the picky side. Post-bachelors premed programs might be better for the native freshman here, due to the nature and rigor of Conover's class. I recommend the Baja program for IGETC, or the MARC program, because that could be much more fun than just a class.
Hes not as horrible as people make him out to be, had a few interesting moments in lecture.. Hes kind of unapproachable, but if you ask questions he'll be helpful. He knows the material well but doesnt care to try and engage the class or make it interesting. His tests are not easy but hes clear enough about what you need to know. Read the book obvi
Worst professor. Grades harder than 4-year uni professors. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Wants super specific answers, expects you to read his mind. Memorize book, do study guides, take his lab exams seriously. Only half the class got about 70 or more on first exam, no curve at all. Inhuman, boring, egotistical, awful professor. Take it somewhere else.
Biology is going to be tough. Remember, it is your job to read, memorize, and learn the info, not his. He might not be the most approachable prof, but he is helpful. For those saying this class is hard, then u will never survive a biology class. If you read the text, take notes, and do the study guides you will do just. (takes effort)
He is not nearly as bad as everyone says. He does have a monotone voice and might seem unapproachable (go to office hours, he will help you) but he knows biology very well and prepares you for upper division classes. Most importantly, pay attention to his lectures, he hints on most of multiple choices AND essays from the tests. A is def doable.
Changed my major after taking him. I studied A LOT!! read every word in the book still couldn't get a good grade so i ended up dropping the class. Exams are so hard and he is a tough grader.
Lectures are basically useless. Makes it VERY hard on you because you need to memorize small details. On essay questions and short answers grades very toughly and takes points off for the most minor things This isnt meant to discourage but get ready to read a lot. Doesnt drop lowest test or curve. lab exams are your lab grade and lab reports r not
It doesn't matter how hard you work, he will work harder to grade in a way where he can make sure you don't get the grade you deserve. He doesn't drop exams or curve even when the highest score on one of the exams was an 88. Good luck, you'll need it.
Professor Conover honestly gets a bad rap. He's a great professor who will answer your questions if you have them and emphasizes what he will test on. Honestly, as long as you pay attention in class and take decent notes, you should be fine. His exams are straightforward and they follow the study guides he gives you.
In office hours he was interested in having conversations about the class. That's a plus. During the lecture, I got a vibe that biology is a detached, dry, impersonal, objective reserved, undemonstrative subject that is going to be extremely time and labor intensive and unrewarding. An impassive class. Any other prof teach? Ecology is better.
You know how gross and revolting a gangrene infested big toe looks? Prof Conover tries his absolute best to present the subject of biology to his students as if it was that effing toe. I've never met a more egotistical and unapproachable prof in my life. I think this SOB goes into every lecture with the desire to hurt and discourage his class.
This class was the hardest class I have ever taken and I am a biochem pre-med major so school is kinda my thing. Work and study your butt off. Read and memorize every word in the book, know all the lab material inside and out, go to ALL of his office hours to show him you care, and go to the SI. Its possible to pass but it will NOT be easy.
Professor Conover May be monotone but he is an incredible biologist. He knows the subject very well and he is willing to repeat himself over and over in office hours to anyone willing to stop by. I talked to him one on one on several occasions and he is a great professor! Of course I read (and memorized) the book as well.
Professor Conover is very helpful and nice if you go to office hours. However, he makes you critically think for the answer. He won't give it to you. He kind of makes you struggle then once he sees you struggling he helps. Tests are tough but he does provide a study guide. Cant stress this enough, if you are struggling go and see him. He is nice.
He isn't the best teacher. Honestly, just memorize & read the book. Idk what else to say about this man. However, he is completely difference person in office hours. Record lectures and lab reviews. Whatever he repeats is going to be on the exam. He basically verbally tests you on what you need to know during office hourscture so pay attention
I would recommend if you are a Bio major change your community college. Because he is the only one teaching the basic 101 class and he is the worst professor ever.
One of the hardest classes I took. I came in thinking I would do well because of my Bio background, but between the essay questions odd grading and the very obscure details in the multiple choice I was always borderline A/B. I found the study guide too broad and useless. The best was recording lectures and pay attention to detail, and the SI leader
Hardest class I have ever taken but I managed to get an A so IT IS doable. He is not a bad professor. Memorize every detail in the book and GO to office hours to show him you are trying. He's caring and willing to help out even if it comes to rounding your grade. Be prepared to sacrifice everything and study your hardest but hard work will pay off!
Dr Conover is one of the best professors who can teach Biology, this was my first semester taking Bio course at GCC, I came to US 3 years ago i have never studied Bio here and in my country i was a math major, his lectures are so complete and he likes students who work hard, getting an A is doable.
Conover has a terrible reputation, and I know he can be difficult to approach but once you talk to him he's actually a really nice person. His tests are difficult because they require lots of memorization, but any biology class is like that. I could've honestly gotten an A if i tried harder, but it was my fault I didn't. Take this class seriously!
Professor Conover's exams do not follow the study guide that he shares with us. I do not recommend taking him, because he just goes through the material by reading everything off from his slides. He does not upload his slides online. Tough grader, and marks you off for simple spelling errors.
Terrible!! Although A is doable but only couple of students received it. The rest either dropped or got low grades. I know Biology is not easy and youre gonna have to study a lot but he makes it harder!! Hes a tough grader and he marks you off a lot over simple things. So many people changed majors because of him. Good luck!
Worst professor in GCC that I have ever taken. I love biology, and it is interesting for me but professor Conover made it a huge challenge, and he marks you off for tiny mistakes. 60% of class dropped it.
Honestly just take the class at PCC
Robert Conover was the worst professor I have ever encountered throughout my college experience. Because of him, I changed my major. If you want to pass this class you need to study all night long and before he even lectures. He does not care for the students if they are struggling with something instead he makes your blood pressure rise.
The most bland and boring man you will meet in your life. Terrible class and an emotionless professor. Don't know the answer? Don't worry cause he won't tell you.
Don't take this Professor because he has hardest exams I have ever seen and my first bad professor. His study guides are useless don't rely on them! Never dropped a class until now so please go take bio101 at a different college!
I worked so hard for this class and I had to drop. Just when you think you understood and studied everything its a sign you should probably study more. You need TIME for this class. If you work full time and plan to be a full time student, think carefully. Expect to be in the lab for the entire class period. Attend SIs and read the booK!!!!
Contrary to others I think Conover is a great professor compared to some of the other at gcc. His tests are difficult but what else would you expect from a biology class, reading the book in-depth is more than enough to pass this class. Don't expect an easy A in any science class.
Ok if you want an A you NEED to read and take notes, his lectures cover surface level stuff only while his exams for both lecture and lab are incredibly detailed. Go to the SIs if you get a chance because they tell you what to expect and what to focus on. For lab, take extensive notes when he talks, on everything, trust me it will pop up in theexam
Unapproachable, doesn't answer your questions nor cares to answer. Instead, he goes around bothering other professors one by one in their offices, moving swiftly from one office to the next until he reaches the end of the hallway. Rather than being friends with his students, he follows Gago and Kretzmann around, which is funny but sad to watch.
qUiEt PlEaSe (you guys will know what I'm talking about once you enter the class). This class will just elevate your blood pressure.
Just know the book inside and out for lecture exams. Don't just rely on his lectures, they're not detailed enough. Don't underestimate the lab exams!! Take extensive notes during lab intros bc he asks very detailed questions. Go to SIs, they help a lot. Overall not a bad professor, the class just requires a lot of work on your part.
Don't even look at the study guide because it won't help you at all. Go to lectures; record them and write down everything he says. He's also nitpicky about your answers on the exams.
He is one of the worst professors at GCC. I have never seen in my life such an indifferent person. Don't expect him to explain you the topics or answer your questions. His lectures are waste of time as well as study guides.
He is awful !!! I can't stress this enough - DON'T TAKE HIM. Go to another community college. Safe your nerves and your time. He is very unpredictable and rude
By far the rudest professor at GCC. He's condescending and it seems like he doesn't care at all whether you fail or pass. Know his lectures by heart if you wanna get a good grade.
The worst professor ever at GCC. Unapproachable, and doesn't care at all. SIMPLY SAVE YOUR GPA AND TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE IF YOU WANT TO TRANSFER TO YOUR DESIRED UNIVERSITY. VERY boring lectures and covers only the surface of the whole material and you do not know what to expect on his exams.
This class will test your patience and dedication if you really want to be a Bio major. Read the book and don't slack off in lab. Yes, he makes you stay for the entire time, sometimes even longer. I had to drop because I did not do well on the lab midterm and that basically determines your grade in the class. Btw, I'm no longer a bio major.
I was warned not to take him and did not want to go through the hassle of taking this class somewhere else. Please take my advice and do not take this class. You will regret it. He is horrible and does not care about students. Took this during the pandemics and he was in no way understanding.
One of my favorite professors from gcc. He pauses during the lectures to make sure everyone is following along and asks if anyone has questions or wants him to elaborate. He's the head of the science department so he's definitely not gonna cut corners, but you can rest assured you'll be well prepared for the next level
Not respectful or helpful. Lots of ambiguity. Seems to play favorites. Too bad he's the only biol 101 professor right now at GCC. Not too tough of a subject but tough enough that discrepencies with rewarding a good or bad answer will hurt your grade. Monotonous. Not cool that his lab exams focus on little covered details!
I never rate professors, but I had to put in a review for him. He is absolutely as hard as everyone says he is. Your going to have to end up teaching yourself and good luck passing.
I would not recommend taking him. He never answers questions regarding the exams nor would answer emails about them. The labs were extremely difficult to get 100% on it. If you need this class, I recommend you take it somewhere else.
Professor Conover thinks will give an F on a whole lab assignment for missing a sig fig. He is just as blunt as others say. Goes quickly over the important info, but talks extremely slow the whole lecture. This class was basically a conversation between Robert & Robert.
WORST PROFESSOR, DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! Professor Conover is simply awful and if you want to dave your GPA, do NOT take his class. He simply does not care for his students and makes you feel stupid for asking questions during lecture. His study guides that he gives are not helpful whatsoever. Simply awful, do not recommend.
He is an alright instructor. Make sure to take good notes and go over the book and study guides to do well in the class.
The Professor of this class is actually the textbook and not Robert. He just talks and talks and talks and somehow rambles for 2 hours about his powerpoint which has 2 sentences per slide. He then asks the most minute detail possible from the book, you must read the entire chapter every page, don't even bother showing up to class. Good luck to you!
Watch his lecture recordings twice and take notes on what he actually says. Overall, it wasn't too bad. It just required a lot of self-teaching and studying on your own. It's not an easy class, but definitely manageable.
