Mr. Coyle is great! He is funny and has a great sense of humor. I really love history because of him. I have finally found someone who makes it make sense for me. Keep up the good work!
This guy is awesome! His sense of humor will make you enjoy history. And there is only a midterm and a final with other online quizes in between. Smooth sailing class.
He teaches Hist 1 and 2 and Western Civ, and I took him for all 3..awesome teacher..lots of fun! :)
his class is bad no help what so ever..online quizes were taken in class with no help..online quizes were held every class day, u get one more chance to retake it but its avg. with the other quiz...had to read two novels both books were quized over and we had to write a paper on both as well.
Too many quizzes. A lot of reading. I thought it was going to be easier. It is not hard, but too many quizzes.
OKAY TEACHER
He was too political, showed more interest in having fun and watching lame travel videos than in teaching his subject. His notes (when he bothered to give them) were directly out of textbook, and the tests were taken online, which was very frustrating. Not a very learning-oriented atmosphere.
kind of monotone but overall a good professor
I made an A by working my butt off. However, he is a very good teacher. He has strong knowledge of the topic and willing to help if you need any.Tests are done online and so are quizzes.
He gives a lot of reading, but if you do the tests in the practice test book, you shouldn't have to do much reading for the quizes. He also gave us the option of taking each quiz twice. He was very imformative and the made the class interesting.
Mr. Coyle is my boy he is the coolest because he always gives you a story eveytime you go in the class. The only drawback is that you have to write the story down.
He was a pretty decent teacher, apparently he has gotten a lot easier than he used to be, so some of the old comments might be out dated. He tried this online thing with us that fell through, so he is gonna try it again but different next semester. He is decent if you wanna try, but there is A LOT of note taking.
alot of note taking, and the notes are NOT on the tests! the tests are difficult, you actually have to read the book you bought and you have to do additional reading with that! i think the notes we take should be on the tests rather than read the book and then read the notes! too much! too much! take him if you want a challenge! i made a B
his class he has a quiz for every chapter which is hard. has some internet thing where you have to post your notes. but cy fair data based messed up some how so we didn't do it. had like 1 at least 800 word essay and some essay on test. Quizes were difficult and you'd have to do some deep studying to find some of the answers. kinda challenging!
mini mester. a lot of info to absorb b/c in 3 wks he taught EVERYTHING a 14 wk course would cover. just take notes, pay close attention to his lecture, & read as much as you can. he grades fairly. i would recommend for a mini mester but i am not sure about a regular semester, he may be a lot more difficult... i can't see it being too bad though.
Prof. Coyle is a very nice and down to earth teacher. I took West Civ I with him and he wasn't a hard grader, just on the tests. The 3 class presentations are easy and so are the journals. I didn't put much effort in his class and I got a B, imagine if I would've!
Mr. Coyle is very nice and funny. I took Hist. 1302 with him and the class was challenging because his tests were pretty hard, well only the essay part, but if you read the chapters you will do fine. I got a B in his class!! Oh and I have to admit that I learned A LOT in his class.
Class was very hard, but you definitely learned a lot. He knows so much about History its unreal! We took a test every friday.. which weren't so bad except for the essay part. We had a midterm and extra credit. Somehow I ended up with a B for the semester. If you are looking to learn a lot about History he would be the teacher for you.
He is a very knowladgeable and teaches in a typical lecture style. if you take notes you will do great in his class
Mr Coyle is a great teacher and makes history bearable :) I took him for 8 wks of history one and 8 wks of history 2 and made an A in both classes. He prepares you well for your exams and if you are good at essays you will do well. Prepare for a fair amount of homework in the fast paced course. He is very fair and helpful to students
Did not stick with the textbook.
Very cool teacher. But very boring subject. Assignments are fairly easy. Some reading is required. He is very easy-going and laid back. Mostly power points and him reading off of them.
Coyle is a great teacher! he knows so much about history. Attendence is important because he covers so much info in class. TAKE NOTES! his test are essays with a quiz every week over the next chapter. LOTS OF READING! i hate history but he makes it fun and interesting! i would definatly take him again!
His class is really easy if you study the notes you take. You have 2 essays plus one final essay. You also have weekly quizzes over the chapters. Plus quiz over two books
One of the best professors I have ever taken. I took his class in study abroad 2010 and I loved it! I love the way he teaches, and being with him for a month ..I never got tired or annoyed at all he had to say. There are very few people in this world that really deserve the world Teacher and he is one of them!! This class is worth every penny :)
Took his new study abroad online course. VERY interesting. As long as you stay on top of your work youll do great. It was really a virtual study abroad and the material was interesting. Great personality too!
Awesome professor. Very relatable and cool personality. Just pay attention and you'll make a A. Very clear instructions on what he wants. I've taken him twice and would do it again :)
Wonderful, personable teacher that was, if anything, too easy! I learned much and recommend him highly. If you are interested in history and expanding your horizons take this professor. This class is so much more than names and dates.
Expect a lot of work. However, you will find the challenge to be stimulating and fun at times. I took him online for West Hist. and as long as you do your assignments and are decent at writing essays you should get an A. He is not tough on grading. I enjoyed his virtual tours. This class is different from any class I taken at Lone Star! Great Prof!
he is on but a lot of work. have to be awake.
Very good teacher, he explains a lot of stuff. Should've taken him for my 1302 class. He explains things and has his sarcastic jokes that make things funny and memorable. He really teaches from the book and you have to pay attention. I actually felt like I learned something, and that's hard to do because some teachers don't care.
Took him for both 1301, 1302. Highly recommend him! I hardly read the text but if u like to, he follows and teaches the material corresponding with the text!! Just listen to his stories and that is key to getting an A. All I did was echo back his material for the exam, easy A. Of course lectures can get boring so best if your class participates!!!!
I really enjoyed his class, I didn't get the grade I wanted but I also didn't do the major essay so it's my own fault. Coyle is fun and explains everything really well, he stays on track pretty well. He is invested in his students which is nice. Just do all the work and you'll be fine.
I took him for U.S. History I & II and Western Civ. He is honestly the best professor I've ever had at Lone Star. He's a fair professor and genuinely passionate about the subject. I recommend him to everyone.
I took him for online winter minimester - Western Civilization. The class was really easy and he was super helpful. He is very clear in what he expects of out the students. As long as you read everything you are told to you will get an A for sure!! I highly recommend him.
Great Teacher!!! I made an A with no problem. He has essay for test but he give you the answers in class. therefore there is no reason for you to fail, unless you do not do anything and I mean "ANYTHING"
Professor Coyle is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I have never been interested in history, especially European history but he is so passionate about it and makes you want to learn more. I highly suggest taking him his as a teacher. He does not grade hard and teaches just like he is telling a story. Highly recommended!!
Professor Coyle is amazing! i started liking history more after taking his class. All his tests consist of essays but you get the prompt in advance so theres no reason why you should fail... he is extremely passionate when it comes to teaching others. I highly recommend him
Loved this class! Really enjoyable and professor made sure to keep it that way. It is evident that he enjoys the subject and teaching it which is rare these days it seems. The textbook is a must and the class is pretty straight forward.
I loved this class, it was pretty easy. weekly discussions and journals and a quiz every week BUT at the end of the semester he opened all the quizes back up so you could retake them another 2 times. 2 book quizes - relatively easy, I got b's on both and didn't read them.
He actually makes history interesting and it is a pretty easy A class, I would definitely recommend him!
Professor Coyle makes this class an adventure. We went on "online field trips," which were a lot of fun. There is a lot of work to do with homework due every week, but it is all pretty simple stuff. He is an easy grader, and he is funny. This class is great. Take this class from Professor Coyle!
Very admirable in his knowledge of the course keeps you interested in the lectures. If I could I would take him again; such a great man that he even offered the whole class his help if we ever needed a recommendation letter or any help that he could assist us with.
Had him online, straight read chapter, quiz, a paper here and there, seems very fair.
Professor Coyle was definitely one of the best professors i have ever taken throughout my college career. He cares about his students and want to make sure that each and everyone of us pass. He gives you reviews before every essay test and gives you a chance to make any of them up. He understands we have life and accepts late work
Mr Coyle was a great Professor ! His tests are really easy and they're all papers so it so easy to just write and expand on the topic. He grades really easily and sometimes he will just give you an A if you attempted to show up and do the tests. Great professor and very nice and Knowledgeable
There is A LOT of writing(weekly journals, 3 maj essays, and 6 short essays) but I highly recommend Professor Coyle! He's put together 'virtual' field trips that are detailed and engaging. His passion for history comes through in his lessons-truly a rare find in online courses. He has no interest in failing you, put in the effort and you'll pass.
This was one of the best classes I have ever taken! I absolutely loved the virtual field trips. Grades easy and cares about your success. Test every week over a chapter, Journal over the virtual field trip, and short essays. 3 major essays. Do your work and you will pass
Love this teacher. His class is awesome, lots of reading but he has developed an online field trip for everything he teacher- which gives us a fun new way to learn! Always stays in contact. WOULD TAKE AGAIN!!!!
Great teacher & great class!! History is my least favorite class but he makes it so easy to understand. WOULD TAKE AGAIN. 10/10
The virtual field trips are really cool and easy. The thing some people may find negative is having to read two shortish books, but I found them to be pretty interesting and enjoyable. Most of your grade is based on essays as well which were easy to write.
There is a lot of writing in this course including weekly essays and a research paper, but nothing is really all that hard. I really recommend him for his virtual field trips, they are cool and if you like history you will love this class. This is also the second class I have had with Coyle and I really enjoyed both.
Easy but lot of work. Every week there is either a 500 word writing assignment or a virtual tour with questions and a quiz for textbook. 2000 word research paper which isnt too bad coming from a somewhat lazy person. Lectures arent detrimental but if majoring in history i recommend going every day. Final didnt have essay but might change in future.
Every week is very similar so it is good to know what to expect. He is so awesome because he takes you on a virtual field trip to Italy the entire semester, since this class is usually taken abroad. Very interesting course. Weekly quizzes, good amount of short essays, and weekly journal entries. Very doable!
Professor Coyle really knows his stuff; you can ask him anything and he can churn out interesting, detailed information. His class is all lectures and essays. You'll write 10 papers, 2 of them over books, which have a 500 word minimum. He also does virtual field trips, which are a completion grade and add great context to what you've learned.
You have to read two books, had a test over one (Marx) and wrote on essay over the other. You will also write a number of papers in this class, minimum 500 words. Lots of quizzes but they're easy if you've been paying attention. There are also "travel" journals that are a lot of fun to do. 2000 word term paper over whatever you want. Soft grader.
He seems to be an easy grader on the weekly journal assignments, but he is SUPER strict on the bibliography. Even though I followed instructions, he gave me a zero on the bibliography. I expected him to appreciate my effort.
You'll have to write a few papers of minimum 500 words. A research paper that your should start early on, a test over one book and an essay over the other. There are also some travel journals that feel like your writing a paper too but I found those very fun. He's was an easy grader. Easy to reach out to and great at communicating any changes.
He really is a good professor. I'm not a fan of online classes and I first thought this would be hard but I really enjoyed the class. I took it online in the summer so the workload was heavy as you needed to do something every day to stay on top of everything but I really enjoyed the experience. He does an online field trip section which is amazing
Great professor that constantly stays in touch with students, some of the work is a lot, but I the end it all ties in together. Never assigned work without explaining it first, does lectures, provides videos, provides flashcards, and different websites to help on your essays. Highly recommended!
His class was fun, different, and enjoyable. His field trip part was great, loved each week and being able to see Italy from my computer was really fun. I found this course very well orgaized, instructions on what is expected were easy to follow and each week flowed well into the next. Would absolutely take again. Easy A.
I enjoyed taking this class with Professor Coyle. As long as you do the work and participate you will get a good grade. I took this class for the first 8 weeks. The book is necessary, reading is a must to get you familiar with the content. He gives 4 unit tests and 2 essays. I would for sure consider taking him for your history courses.
I took Prof. Coyle this semester in an 8-week course and he was super understanding and very helpful! I am actually taking his 2nd western civ next semester and would highly recommend him! Be prepared to read and write a lot but other than that not super heavy on course work besides 4 tests and the study abroad assignment.
Mr. Coyle is a super nice guy. I took his 8-week class. It wasn't an "easy A", but if you do the work and do the readings, you'll do totally fine. We had 4 tests, and 2 papers, but nothing crazy. The tests were open note, open book. You need the book, Lots of reading required to be familiar with the info, but it was a good class overall.
TAKE HIM YOU WON'T REGRET IT ! I was pretty nervous starting this class since it was an 8 week course. This professor made it easy, only 4 unit tests, 2 essays, and also gives out an extra credit opportunity. I would definitely recommend him !
8 week class is very busy , lots of reading. 4 tests and 4 written assignments. Fairly organized professor. Would take again.
he is a tough grader he will make you fail my suggestion would not take it all if you don't have the option don't do it please I got a grade of C in his class, a lot of work, and he did even doesn't reply to his emails at all.
Good professor if you plan on taking 1301 for credit. 15 chapter reading quizzes are not too difficult as long as you read the chapter. Easy grader, not very strict. Lecture heavy, most of the information is unnecessary as long as you only read. Very good communication. I recommend taking him.
Dr. Coyle's class was fairly straightforward, the class was divided into 4 units, at the end of each unit an essay, a "field trip" report, and a unit test was due. There will be a project which you can choose any historical event prior to 1648 to write about.
Professor Coyle is an amazing history professor, if you are able to pick him, TAKE HIS CLASS! I took his fall HIST1301 and his summer HIST1302 class, and I am very glad I did. If you show up, he will make sure that you do not fail the class. You do have to read the textbook for every unit, but he will actually teach you about the impact of history!
Hands down the best history teacher. Made history a lot easier for me. HW and quizzes aren't bad unless you didn't read. Very understanding of everyone's situation and is flexible. A lot of notes but they're useful. Not much homework, maybe twice a month. Easy grader. No midterm, the final was an essay you can prewrite. Don't hesitate to take him.
Perfect for students with busy schedules! Read the book, do the journal, and boom, you are done! Best taken with Prof. Buck Buchannan's GEOG class because they both have worked together and are both super cool guys. Only drawback: low communication, but you really won't need to contact him a lot, the class is set up that way. Take his class!
Took his 8-week hybrid class where assignments were online and his lectures were in person. His lectures were great and very easy to digest. Assignment-wise, there was only one 500-word paper + test each week. He wasn't harsh when grading the papers and he even helped to explain how to write in CMS style. Overall, great and respectable professor.
Avoid the mini if you work full-time or take week 1 off. Spent several hours a day reading & could barely keep up, although the last week was easy. All work is due daily. He grades easy and wants you to pass. Easy A if you can keep up with the work. So much reading...
winter mini: 1chapter/weekday. Virtual study abroad program was really fun and added to what was being learned, making it memorable. Professor graded things on content, not grammar! One novel to read with a nonstrenuous essay. Final exam was open answer with a study guide provided that was identical- so you can be totally prepared. Great professor!
Professor Coyle is THE BEST. If you participate in class and manage your time, you'll do well. There is a lot of reading, so don't fall behind. This professor truly cares about his students and their success. I was going to take HIST 1302 next fall semester, but he was only teaching it in the summer, so I changed my schedule. He's that great!
Let me start off by saying I have never enjoyed history. In fact this was my second time taking the class. Everything changed once I got to his class! It was very easy to understand and he made it clear on what we needed to do on any essay or homework! Professor Coyle is very caring and super understanding! Take him!!
Simple design for the class. 3 Unit tests, 1 final exam. 2 essays, 1 book to read w/ quiz. Please read your textbook. The only thing I wish was that there was more guidance on what the multiple choice questions were going to be on because it was impossible to study that broadly. Kind and fun teacher, who gave me a good attitude toward history
Most amazing professor I have ever had in college so far (sophomore). He is passionate about history, and it shows. He cares about his students and creates an excellent learning environment. You will need to read the books that are required for class, but they're interesting. I already signed up to take HIST 1302 with him - he's great!
This was the 2nd class I took w/Professor Coyle because he is just one of the best professors at LSC. He is passionate about history and makes it relevant and interesting. I took this during the summer, so it was a LOT to read and also writing intensive, but I would gladly take any course Professor Coyle teaches. Gives valuable feedback.
Professor Coyle was overall a good professor. Was not a fan about the fact he made us hand write two essays for each exam like if computers didn't exist. He also makes these dumb liberal comments all throughout the lectures but just ignore them. Do your work and you will get an A easy as that.
INQUIZITIVE! I absolutely hate that there's so many quizzes and the multiple essays that I had to write.
I took his HIST 2312, 8-week online course and it was easy, just lots to read. He answered all my questions on a timely manner!! Taking again for a 3-week mini semester for 2311!!
Class was set up very nicely. Each chapter had chapter questions and an inquisitive. There was a unit test for every 3 or 4 chapters and then a journal. Easy to pass as long as you do the homework. Prof. is very understanding and is willing to work with you if you are struggling.
Great professor who does not overwhelm you with assignments, and makes learning fun. Very easy to do well in this class as long as you stay on top of assignments and put in the effort. He is very nice and understanding and also has a genuine passion for what he is teaching.
Professor Coyle follows the syllabus and is lenient on due dates. For this course, there were 2 papers (book reviews). The papers were easy, and he gave specific instructions on what you needed to write about. You will be reading a lot because the majority of the assignments come from the textbook and InQuizitive.
Extremely easy, so if you need history credit, take his class. There is ONE TEST, and it's the final exam, for which you have to write some paragraphs about historical figures, but it's short. All homework is through inquizitive, so lots of reading. Two book reviews that are pretty simple if you plan ahead or a few days before, so yeah, very easy.
I was enrolled hybrid for this course and this course doesn't require much work. It's just inquizitives, 3 unit journals and 3 unit tests. Professor Coyle provides with vocab and practice quizzes before tests and also have them as bonus for the tests. He grades everything on time and is understanding. I would recommend taking him!
Took him for Western Civ II, you're going to write essays and journals. So be ready to write. Oh, and its not just material in the textbook you have to write about. He does this virtual travel thing where he has all the trips he took to Europe provided for you to look over, and you must tie in the book material to his trips. Would never take again.
I took his hybrid class which was his first try and it was great! His lectures are good and there's inquizitives, Ebook questions, and in-person tests on paper. Those tests were a bit hard but he gives bonus point sometimes and the tests were mutiple choice questions and unit IDs. His class is easy if you do your work on time. TAKE HIM!
Save yourself and don't take him. He must be ready to retire because his lack of teaching during class makes this course impossible. You're teaching yourself by reading the textbook, which is so dense and word heavy that you're not going to retain any of it in time for the test. 4 units, which means 4 essays, 4 tests, and 4 reports, plus homework.
Open-minded and realistic history professor. The course is straightforward and easy if you do the readings and study. Studying is the most important. The lectures were funny and connect back to real world events. 10/10 Professor and course!
He is a very good professor, very into his job. The tests are kind of hard, but you just need to study!
Would not take again. The course itself was perfectly fine, as it was online and straightforward. But as is known, the professor makes or breaks a course and I personally did not appreciate my experience in 2311. Dry and curt over email, as well as unfriendly in course announcements. If this isn't a concern of yours, then you should be just good.
His class was really boring so it was hard to focus, but his work isn't that hard so honestly its not that bad. Its your normal history class, which he seems really knowledgeable so if you're into that, this class could be a good pick for you.
This class has a LOT of work. I took this as a 3 week mini meager so it was intense. Even in a regular semester it's a lot. 14 chapters with ebook, inquisitive and historic assignments. Then 15 virtual field trips to write about and another 10 essays and a final. The work wasn't hard but very time consuming.
I loved this class, I still think about what I learned. Professor Coyle taught the material easily digestible. He also gave many antidotes about his personal travels which also helped the learning. The homework was doable, the first semester he did inquizative went smoothly, and it was fun. The final was also doable with studying.
