He's a great prof., but don't expect to slack off...

You'll love him or hate him. Personally I thought he was hilarious as well as being one of my best and fav lecturers.

He will either be the best or worst professor you will ever experience. One cannot fully comprehend the UCSB experience without taking this class.

Great teacher. Kind of crazy and has been known to cancel morning classes due to hangovers. Brilliant guy and knows his ****.

scary to approach, but knows his material! you MUST go to class to do well, but if you listen he explains everything pretty clearly. his comments take a little getting used to, but i found them hillarious.

Just memorize the essays. You have to start studying early, but if you go to lecture and listen carefully, you'll be fine.

Hard class but you will learn a lot. Rides a harley, was one of reagans advisors and can be found at the elephant bar having a few drinks before class. He is a very smart man and teaches a difficult class. Study hard!

This is the best and hardest class you will take at ucsb. You HAVE to come to class to do well but he is very clear if u pay attention and really knows his stuff!plus, his comments are hilarious!!!

Make flashcards for the essays with a friend. And don't wear a hat in class or he will pick on you. He's hilarious though, one of the only non-liberal professors on campus.

Crouch is the most qualified teachers I have had at UCSB. He knows his Econ and he will make you know it too. Learn the essay questions and try to make study groups whenever possible. If you go to his office hours don't expect him to be your best friend.

He is hilarious and very well educated in economics. He knows what he is talking about but is rather intimidating to approach. He also will call on people in lecture and totally bash you if you get the question wrong, but it is a worthwhile class.

One of the best teachers I've had at UCSB. He is ruthless and challenging, but has a great sense of humor. You will know economics when you leave the class.

I love this man as much as I can love a bad suit-wearing brit with an attitude. He is like a very well-educated Dennis Leary. Not very easy, not very clear, just a great teacher. If you don't get it though, forget asking for help.

Knows his ****, and he gives his **** to you. As long as you do the reading and all the problems, ur set to go. Awesome man!

Crouch is an awesome teacher. People that don't like him, just don't like him because they don't study. If you study, and do your problems, you'll do well in the class. Crouch explains things really well, you just have to listen and take notes.

crouch really knows what he is talking about. his class makes the other econ 1 class seem like a joke. this class is really hard only if you make it hard. if you read the book and do the questions and go to lecture, you'll do fine. dont get TA ying sun.

Professor Crouch is really hilarious! One essay option was about legalizing cocaine! Just don't sleep in his class or he'll wake you up in front of the whole class. If you go to lecture and take good notes it's fine.

crouch knows his economics. go to lecture and study...you will do well. avoid the TA ying sun at all costs. if reed johnson is an option, get him. overall, not a bad class.

This guy was awesome. He talks**** about his students and his TA's, drinks vodka in class (allegedly), and was part of the Reagan adminstration some time ago. What's not to like about this jolly fat Brit?

As a freshman class can seem very difficult, but a good TA can help alot. Not hard once you get into the class.

Prof. Crouch is by far the best Econ prof. ive had @ UCSB...if you really pay attention he's easy too. he gets straight to the point and teaches you the theory you need to know. does not waste time with stupid math junk like other econ profs..

he's a crazy old man, don't come late to class and don't wear a hat or bright colors to lecture unless you want him to **** with you.

not the easiest class around but certainly one of the most entertaining classes i've had. he's very knowledgable about economics and if you attend all the lectures/discussions then you'll do fine. hearing him insult other countries' economy is priceless

This guy is bloody hilarious! It makes for interesting times hearing him insult students and make rude comments, he's very smart, just make sure u pay attention and read the reader

hard but good teacher

Probably not for first year students, but anyone who knows a little about math and science, like CS or ECE majors, should do well. Other majors may want to stay away.

You need to take this teacher, he is a nut, but knows what he is talking about.

Knows his stuff. If you want to learn take Crouch... if you want someone you can get along, he probably isn't the professor you want to take.

This class is amazingly easy. Plus he talks about the economic rationale for legalizing drugs. Go Crouch!

Crouch is great! He's like a historical landmark on this campus. His lectures are thorough and he just rambles on fast & furious...it's like he doesn't even have to think about what he's saying since he's been teaching since the stone age...

His classes are hard as hell, but he knows what he's talking about. Plus, he likes yell at stupid people. And he's British. Didn't do so well in his class, but one of my favorite professors.

This guy is insane! But out of all of the econ teachers i would take him, oddly enough I really like him. His class is hard, but crouch knows his stuff. He looks kinda like a mad scientist. I prefer him over all of the other econ teachers

Crouch knows the material for these classes REALLY well. It's true that he criticizes those who don't know the material but overall he's an excellent professor. The grading scheme is a little odd though, and it doesn't reflect knowledge on his exams. Would definitely take more classes with him.

These people are babies. Crouch is brilliant in econ. and it comes thru in his lectures. Was helpful when i sought him out. The TA's suck, except for Libby, who's great. The essay is impossible to fail if you study at all (you only need a C-) Overall, Crouch was a really good prof, and FUNNY

anyone who cant pass this class should just drop from the university. its really not that hard. go to lectures, the essays are directly from lecture. the text isn't very good, but overall the class isn't bad. and crouch is hillarious. a little scattered, horrible hand writing, but genius.

This is college. He is a tough professor, and hard to follow, but if you put forth an effort some of his genius might rub off on you. Definately don't take this class your first quarter of college.

awesome Prof.. he may seem a bit overwhelming at first because he tends to growl instead of speak, and writes worse than a three year old. He called on students when I was in his class, don't wear bright colors! But he's a brilliant guy. The essays aren't hard..just write them down and study them!

Great class. Go to every lecture and study, it's not that difficult. Even a monkey could get a C in this class with his curve. Besides, where else do you hear phrases such as "congress spends money faster than a ****en sailor in a TJ **** house." You heard it first in crouch's class. Welcome to college, high school is done.

Funny guy, but no ****. The material can be tough, but it depends on how much time you devote to it, but that shouldn't be a problem considering there are no take-home assignments. The tests are short and to-the-point. The essays on the tests are crucial. He goes over a preset list of essays, but you have to go to class to get the answers.

For some reason there are horror stories floating around about this guy. He's very intelligent and gets the job done. He's not fun or anything except he rarely knows whats going on in class. Great econ teacher

An incredibly intelligent professor. He really knows his stuff and if you try you will know your stuff by the end of the quarter. Once you get over his arrogance then you can learn to like him. Every Econ major will have him eventually.

This man is quite a character. IF you don't understand the principle of Economics and you don't study you're screwed cuz he will pick on you forever. One of the few people that can sense fear and lazyness in a 500 studen lecture hall and who WILL call on you. I enjoyed his class. Very refreshing and quite a personality

I hear people ****ing about the class because its too hard, Crough is mean, and lots of people fail etc. Well, the class is supposed to weed people out of economics who shouldn't be in it in the first place. I found the class clear and interesting and if you don't sit in the first 6 rows he won't ask you a question.

"Take a 30 second break (4 secs later) ceteris paribus that was 30 seconds." Funny old brit, very straightforward. Can be hysterical. Reader sucks, everything is learned in section and lecture. Grading is tough, must perform well on tests. Watch out in the first 4 rows, you'll get called on, and might get called a bloody fool. I liked him.

Don't listen to all the fools who didn't like the class or the professor because it was hard. I agree that the class is hard, but if you go to lectures, read the text, you will do fine. Most important, you will know more economics than people who didn't have Crouch. He teaches everything you need to know. Very good professor, and funny too.

Lecture quality is good. Picks on people in class which I find to be beneficial since being on the spot makes people think. Test can be hard depending on the taker. Pretty funny. "By no circumstances do you want the French protecting your left flank," classic line. The man drives a 1967 mustang and always wears a pair of slippers. Enough said.

Take this guy during the summer; in smaller classes, he tells entertaining stories about his RAF days and what they eat in Scotland. His appreciation of Keynes is beyond me, but at least he doesn't use (ugh) PowerPoint.

Hilarious. Great teacher. If you follow his simple instructions you will learn quite easily. Every single one of his political opinions was hilarious. And mostly right. TAKE A THIRTY SECOND BREAK.

Crazy old Brit, pretty straight forward lectures but the reader is horrible. Class wasn't hard if you read along with the lectures. Don't sit in front and wear bright colors if you do not want to get asked a question.

He is one of the best econ professors on campus. If you are scared of going to class, just take CLAS. His tests are not hard as long as you study for the essay questions. He goes over all the essays questions in class...repeatedly. So if you want to learn something about econ and do not want to read, his classes will be the best choice.

Crouch is not all that bad, I actually find him funny and very clear. Just keep up with the readings and the test questions will be easily answerable.

Crouch makes econ pretty interesting, does he not? If you go to lectures, which are fairly entertaining, you shouldn't have a problem, will you not? His crazy anecdotes and quirks made this class memorable, did they not? Take him, he's a legend.

His class is not as horrid as past people have made it seem. Difficult at times, but if you study hard, you will do well. Now, take a 30 second break......

Professor crouch is one of the most intellectually and sexually stimulating individuals that I have ever encounter. He literally gets me soaking wet for an hour and 15 minutes straight. His voice makes my body get all hard. His lectures always gets me to my climax. The class is overall great. It's a must for all UCSB.

Professor Crouch is the best thing that has ever happened since the penguin from the batman. He is also as witty as Ben Franklin. The best part of all this is that he is able to sensually show that he is as hot as both of them combined. I cannot believe that I have never met a man that is able to make me so wet in just over an hour of talking.

If you actually listen, he's very knowledgeable.

I don't understand why people dislike him so much. He is not only brilliant but can and does relate economics to our every day lives. May come off as intimidating, however, is very nice and helpful with any questions you may have. Crouch is a classic, you should definently take Econ 1 with him. Attend lecture, and essay questions are a breeze since he gives you all the answers to them before the test. MC is hard if you don't study but I got a 14/15, 15/15 on the two tests, but i studied for a while. If econ is absolutely not your subject then don't take Econ with him.

One of the best lectures ever. However tests were of great difficulty. Made going to class very interesting. One of the best.

As far as UCSB goes, taking Econ 1 with Crouch is a RIGHT OF PASSAGE as an Econ student. I've met UCSB alumi from the 60s, 70s, & 80s and they all had Crouch for Econ 1. In Economics, he is truly a member of the old-guard and it's reflected in his awesome historical examples. If Hogwarts had an Economics department, he's be the head professor.

Crouch is a total Badass. He tells the class to take "30 second breaks", then takes a two second swig of his coffee/vodka and continues lecturing. I saw him make not one, but two girls cry by calling them out in front of the class. Ceteris Paribus, he is the best prof at UCSB. Take him if you think you can handle his awesomeness.

Professor Crouch is the greatest teacher of all time. His lectures were amazing. Anything and everything you needed to learn from this classes comes from his lectures, calling on students randomly during class, and his reader! I've been out of school for almost two decades and I still appreciate him to this day. Thank you for being my teacher.
