Hard class but you will learn a lot. Rides a harley, was one of reagans advisors and can be found at the elephant bar having a few drinks before class. He is a very smart man and teaches a difficult class. Study hard!

Make flashcards for the essays with a friend. And don't wear a hat in class or he will pick on you. He's hilarious though, one of the only non-liberal professors on campus.

Crouch is the most qualified teachers I have had at UCSB. He knows his Econ and he will make you know it too. Learn the essay questions and try to make study groups whenever possible. If you go to his office hours don't expect him to be your best friend.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS: Freshman year,if you aren't required to or want to retain your sanity. Crouch knows his **** but gives the hardest tests you will ever take in your life EVER. If you get Reed Johnson as a TA you might as well not attend section.

This class was soo hard! Sometimes lectures would be amusing, esp. when he goes off on legalizing cocain...but most of the time I just sat there in fear that he would call on me. Don't worry too much though, even I manged to pass.

Professor Crouch is really hilarious! One essay option was about legalizing cocaine! Just don't sleep in his class or he'll wake you up in front of the whole class. If you go to lecture and take good notes it's fine.

This is a very hard class--i read the chapters at least three times and did EVERY question in the reader and i still had a hard time. Make sure you get a good TA or your screwed. avoid micheal wood at ALL costs--he is the worst TA ever!

Crouch is a funny guy and you have to love him. Lecture is an option. Not really all that helpful because he mostly goes through the essays. TA's are the key. Avoid TA Wood and go for Reed or the Irish guy, they are awesome.

Crouch as a professor is an **** for picking on students in his 8am lecture. His tests are fair...read the questions carefully and understand what they are asking because you can easily be tricked if you rush through his exams. Plenty of time for exams

I had him for econ 1, so i'm used to his teaching. I think he's great! He knows what he's talking about! Definitely go to lecture and write fast. His writing is really bad though, and he goes over things pretty fast sometimes. But if you ask him to clarify, he'll definitely try to make it clear.

Crouch knows the material for these classes REALLY well. It's true that he criticizes those who don't know the material but overall he's an excellent professor. The grading scheme is a little odd though, and it doesn't reflect knowledge on his exams. Would definitely take more classes with him.

One of the hardest classes that I've ever taken. The professor talks very quickly in class and sporadically calls on students to see if they're paying attention. The tests are extremely difficult. If you don't pass the essay portion you automatically fail the exam. TAs are impossible to understand.

These people are babies. Crouch is brilliant in econ. and it comes thru in his lectures. Was helpful when i sought him out. The TA's suck, except for Libby, who's great. The essay is impossible to fail if you study at all (you only need a C-) Overall, Crouch was a really good prof, and FUNNY

Great class. Go to every lecture and study, it's not that difficult. Even a monkey could get a C in this class with his curve. Funny guy, but no ****. The material can be tough, but it depends on how much time you devote to it, but that shouldn't be a problem considering there are no take-home assignments. The tests are short and to-the-point. The essays on the tests are crucial. He goes over a preset list of essays, but you have to go to class to get the answers.

Although he's a tough professor. This guy cracks me up. In terms of teaching style I think he's a little crazy, but in terms of learning economics he is awesome. He was a good professor overall.

This teacher is really hard on his students, but he is entertaining in a morbid sort of way and keeps one interested in the material. A little tip, if you don't like being called on don't where bright colors and sit far away from the front.

The guy is a very intelligent man. He worked alongside Regan, implementing his own trickle-down economic theory. He's most definitly not your average professor at UCSB. This is one of the classes where you should show up sober. He talks fast and waits

For some reason there are horror stories floating around about this guy. He's very intelligent and gets the job done. He's not fun or anything except he rarely knows whats going on in class. Great econ teacher

An incredibly intelligent professor. He really knows his stuff and if you try you will know your stuff by the end of the quarter. Once you get over his arrogance then you can learn to like him. Every Econ major will have him eventually.

This man is quite a character. IF you don't understand the principle of Economics and you don't study you're screwed cuz he will pick on you forever. One of the few people that can sense fear and lazyness in a 500 studen lecture hall and who WILL call on you. I enjoyed his class. Very refreshing and quite a personality

Robert Crouch is Australia's answer to Gallager. Except, instead of smashing watermellons he smashes your confidence. Don't wear bright colors to class as he will call on you. Explains that a question is easy by citing the fact that "even a retard could answer this." Hold impromtu office hours at the E-bar over a J&B on the rocks. Class reccomended for masochists only.

It was the most excrutiating class I had to drag myself to. The chicken scratch he had on the projector was wretched to follow and he mumbled through his lectures. If not for the TA, I would have been completely in the dark about what was going on... or perhaps I'm just really, really, really stupid.

As a freshman this is the worst possible set of classes you can start off with. This professor is very old and very bad. He has his way of teaching and hasn't changed it in years although it is in desperate need of it. All possible exam questions given prior to exam, but learning them is relearning the entire class. Do not recommend, unless nec.

Delightful british accent, haughty neoliberal prick, antiquated ideas on women, ciggarettes, and the poor, but oddly, I love him. You will learn economics, if you study. He also great arguments such as the validity of cocaine legalization and why the minimum wage hurts poor people. Take him.

Says random things like "...a ****en sailor in a Tiajuana ****house on New Year's Eve". Prof. Crouch loves talking about bombs. He mumbles when scribbling things on the overhead and then randomly shouts for a student to answer questions. He also grades Midterms at happy hour at Ebar or can be spotted drinking at OTT and being lurpy. GOOD LUCK

I hated his class. His gradingpolicy was horrible! And I will definately believe he drinks while grading midterms/finals since I only wrote one sentence for my final essay (since I thought I was failing the class anyway) and still passed! I'm still waiting to take Econ 2 becuase he's the only one ever teaching it. I refuse to take his class again!

I hear people ****ing about the class because its too hard, Crough is mean, and lots of people fail etc. Well, the class is supposed to weed people out of economics who shouldn't be in it in the first place. I found the class clear and interesting and if you don't sit in the first 6 rows he won't ask you a question.

I took this class because Pol. Sci Major requires it. Unfortunately, i could not have had a worse Econ 1 experience than i did with Crouch. His attitude towards teaching is repulsive. I think he should NOT be teaching a beginning Econ class because he just makes his students hate the subject. Avoid. I'm also waiting to take Econ 2 with someone else

"Take a 30 second break (4 secs later) ceteris paribus that was 30 seconds." Funny old brit, very straightforward. Can be hysterical. Reader sucks, everything is learned in section and lecture. Grading is tough, must perform well on tests. Watch out in the first 4 rows, you'll get called on, and might get called a bloody fool. I liked him.

You either love him or hate him. I had Bergstrom for Econ 1, and that was terrible. Crouch is way better. Talks way too fast, but as long as you listen in lecture you get the idea. Study hard for the midterm and final. He's really not as bad as everyone thinks he is.

Okay, I'm graduating in couple of days and I have this to say about Crouch: In hindsight, he's the best professor I've had in UCSB. Was he the nicest? no. Was he the most helpful? no. But what he DID was he taught me the material inside and out. If you get an A in this class by genuinely studying hard, Economics will only get easier as you progress

Don't listen to all the fools who didn't like the class or the professor because it was hard. I agree that the class is hard, but if you go to lectures, read the text, you will do fine. Most important, you will know more economics than people who didn't have Crouch. He teaches everything you need to know. Very good professor, and funny too.

The class is fairly hard, but if you go to all the lectures and read the text you should do good. Getting an A in the class I think is fairly hard. Crouch knows the subject insanely well! I have learned a ton from him - even though he is not the easiest professor, you will learn a lot! After all, he was the economics advisor for Regan in the 1980s

Classical theoretical econ, as slurred by a hilarious, vitrolic, sometimes mean-spirited coot. Intimidating, but not too hard, just relax and study early, go to lectures, and don't miss quizes in section (I missed all of them). We have polar opposite political views, though people just need to lighten up and enjoy his brand of entertaining madness.

Lecture quality is good. Picks on people in class which I find to be beneficial since being on the spot makes people think. Test can be hard depending on the taker. Pretty funny. "By no circumstances do you want the French protecting your left flank," classic line. The man drives a 1967 mustang and always wears a pair of slippers. Enough said.

Take this guy during the summer; in smaller classes, he tells entertaining stories about his RAF days and what they eat in Scotland. His appreciation of Keynes is beyond me, but at least he doesn't use (ugh) PowerPoint.

Mr. Crouch slurs and rambles on throughout his lecture... very hard to understand. Extremely messy writing. Cannot follow what he is talking about. Very rude to students. Told one student she was "stupid" in front of the entire lecture. While I'm sure he is knowledgable on the subject I would avoid him if possible.

Crazy old Brit, pretty straight forward lectures but the reader is horrible. Class wasn't hard if you read along with the lectures. Don't sit in front and wear bright colors if you do not want to get asked a question.

this guy is very fast. he doesn't pause to let you copy what he has written on the overhead, and his handwriting is usually illegible anyways. Tutoring helped me pass this class, not the lectures.

hard to understand him, he talks fast and his writing is illegible. i skipped out on most of the lectures but when he talks about the essay questions GO! i did all the multiple choice questions from the reader (thats the only text he follows) and went to 4 lectures and studied the essay questions like mad.

By far one of the sexiest teachers Here at UCSB let me tell you... He is a little hard to follow but pay attention and study and you'll be fine... BUTT nice is kinda not in his vocabulary... Try not to fall asleep I did 1 time and was told in front of everyone basically I'm worthless... if its not you its kinda funny haha well at least I'm famous

tough class.Questions r tricky.Writing is terrible!He calls on kids in class and if u get answer wrong he makes fun of u.Only uses a reader.its very helpful so read it!midterm/final consist of essay and 15 MC.if u fail essay u fail the test so be sure to study essay questions.go to review and do practice tests.hated him @ 1st but learned 2 like him

he's a funny chap. your entire grade over the quarter is based on 30 mc and 2 essays. if you fail the essay, you fail midterm and final. a lot of pressure, which is why i learned a lot but he isn't too terribly helpful or interested in the students...like most prof's.

He is one of the best econ professors on campus. If you are scared of going to class, just take CLAS. His tests are not hard as long as you study for the essay questions. He goes over all the essays questions in class...repeatedly. So if you want to learn something about econ and do not want to read, his classes will be the best choice.

Crouch makes econ pretty interesting, does he not? If you go to lectures, which are fairly entertaining, you shouldn't have a problem, will you not? His crazy anecdotes and quirks made this class memorable, did they not? Take him, he's a legend.

The class itself is not nearly as intimidating as people make it seem, unless you have trouble with maintaining work ethic. So do ALL reading, take ridiculous notes, and study essay questions for the test. I only go to half of the lectures and I'm doing well. Lastly, he gives no care for you or your grade, so it's all about teaching yourself.

Professor crouch is one of the most intellectually and sexually stimulating individuals that I have ever encounter. He literally gets me soaking wet for an hour and 15 minutes straight. His voice makes my body get all hard. His lectures always gets me to my climax. The class is overall great. It's a must for all UCSB.

Professor Crouch is the best thing that has ever happened since the penguin from the batman. He is also as witty as Ben Franklin. The best part of all this is that he is able to sensually show that he is as hot as both of them combined. I cannot believe that I have never met a man that is able to make me so wet in just over an hour of talking.

May come off as intimidating, however, is very nice and helpful with any questions you may have. professor crouch is not that bad. His writing is terrible but he explains all the information you need pretty clearly. The reader is horrible but do the multiple choice at the end of each section and youll be fine. your whole grade is pretty much 30 MC questions so beware

Crouch is a classic, you should definently take Econ 1 with him. Attend lecture, and essay questions are a breeze since he gives you all the answers to them before the test. MC is hard if you don't study but I got a 14/15, 15/15 on the two tests, but i studied for a while. If econ is absolutely not your subject then don't take Econ with him.

He is very clear about what he's talking about and relates everything to real life. It's not that hard to follow, people just don't pay attention. He gives you all the answers so just go to lecture and do the practice questions and the class will be a breeze.

As far as UCSB goes, taking Econ 1 with Crouch is a RIGHT OF PASSAGE as an Econ student. I've met UCSB alumi from the 60s, 70s, & 80s and they all had Crouch for Econ 1. In Economics, he is truly a member of the old-guard and it's reflected in his awesome historical examples. If Hogwarts had an Economics department, he's be the head professor.

Crouch is a total Badass. He tells the class to take "30 second breaks", then takes a two second swig of his coffee/vodka and continues lecturing. I saw him make not one, but two girls cry by calling them out in front of the class. Ceteris Paribus, he is the best prof at UCSB. Take him if you think you can handle his awesomeness.

Professor Crouch is the greatest teacher of all time. His lectures were amazing. Anything and everything you needed to learn from this classes comes from his lectures, calling on students randomly during class, and his reader! I've been out of school for almost two decades and I still appreciate him to this day. Thank you for being my teacher.
