To begin with Accounting is not very easy, but this guy will make the first 5 weeks seem like horrible hell. You might get used to his miserable jokes and maybe even laugh sometimes, but you will never get used to the 2 hours of work a night.
Evil !
Do not take this guy, you will regret it after the enormous aount of work, and Jesus Christ himself could not have passed his test.
He sucks! He doesn't go over the notes very well. He says oh it's in the book so I don't have to go over it. I do not recommend him, he's hard and seems unapproachable, tests are mad hard too. Stay away if you can!
This guy is the worst professor i have ever taken in my life. If the two and a half hours of work a night wasnt enough... you can study for his tests for days and still fail miserably. Stay away from this terrible human being.
Hard teacher, but decent when it comes to fairness in grades and extra credits given. Do not take him unless you had a fair amount of accounting in high school!
He expects a lot from students, but if you read the book, do homework, and take notes in class, the quizzes and homework will be easy A's. For tests, the Study Guide is a good book to purchase and use. He will clarify material in class and in his office.
Awful. Stay away if you can !!
Very mean, grumpy, unapproachable man. I advise you to choose someone else
This man will ruin your life, insanely hard and unreasonable.

If you took Acc in high school or now your way around the basics take him. It'll all make sense on your way to an easy A.
Funny guy, but he is the devil, doesn't care about you or what you have to say. He does go over everything tho. Test are what he goes over but you gotta be on your game.
The worst teacher ever. He acts like he hates the world and wants to punish students for it. Dont take him.
This teacher is something else. He has this weird limp which he walks with and it is awkward. His teaching style is very tough... you need to be ready to hit the books and outsmart him to do good. I am doing A work in the class, but I am pointing out every mistake I can. He is hard to work with.
He seems tough in the begining of the semeseter but his class gets easier as time goes on. He is a very reasonalbe man. You can go to his office any time he is there and he is very helpful. There is homework due every class but as long as you have a buddy to do it with you are fine.
this man will make your life hell. This class is like taking 5 classes in one. His tests are an injustice and he is just plain miserable.
Do not really have to go to class. Only 3 tests all semester and his grading is really fair. Failing is below a 50. Not that hard to pass.
What a PAIN in the tush! He is a horrible teacher. You wanna be nice because of the limp but he is just uncontrollably mean and it ain't worth your time. If your gonna teach at a Catholic school don't you think they'd have devil sensors at the door?
I thought Dr. Davis was a hard teacher. This doesn't mean he was a bad teacher. On the contrary I think he was one of the best teachers I have had at Canisius.
classes are very hard and tests are long... he is very knowledgeable and has a funny, but disturbed sense of humor. amusing once you get used to him, but intimidating before that. don't take what he says personally, or you'll never make it.
Tough, but a good teacher. You learn a ton
STAY AWAY FROM DR. DAVIS, AVOID HIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS, MAKE YOUR SCHEDULE AROUND NOT TAKING DAVIS FOR ACCOUNTING
Just a horrible class !!
If accounting is not your major dont take his class. It is very difficult. For major students Id recommend taking him as you will learn a great deal about accounting. He is a very smart man.
Greatest.........Teacher...........Ever
Dr. Davis is the only good teacher in the accounting department. Although you have to work hard, he treats his students with respect and always is will to help.
Very helpful teacher, you really learn a lot

Worst professor ever! Avoid taking at all costs!!
sucks
worst teacher ever for accounting. i was going to be an accounting major but this class made me think otherwise. basically, class is really hard.
biggest POS ever.. wish he would retire... average test scores are in the 50s and doesn't grade on a curve.... avoid him at all cost
He hobbles into class always pissed off. He will use powerpoint slideshow 100% of class time, and speeds through slides so you have no time to copy them or even read them...Study every word in every chapter because it will be on the exams...BTW I hope everyone drops out so an accounting job is easier for me to find
He makes sure you know your stuff. But be prepared to work. Make sure you read the chapters and know the homeworks inside and out and you should be alright. VERRRY interesting guy
I'm 38 years old & Davis treated me like I was 18. I was going on vacation during the second test and he wanted me to PROVE that I take my family on vacation every year around that time & that I booked my trip before class started. I already have my MBA, two kids, a spouse, and a house. I wasn't trying to get & give answers to the other students
I am not sure what the problem is. He is a VERY GOOD teacher, people are pretty hard on him. He makes sure you learn the material, and if you don't want to put in the work, don't take this class. He is very reasonable and one of the best professors I have had at Canisius.
I love this guy!! He totally gets a bad rap.. He explanis everything so well and yea tests are hard but if you do the homework and pay attention in class then you will do okay.
Dr. Davis is not concerned with student's progress or grades. Does give extra credit opportunities throughout semester, but tests are nearly impossible. Final exam was not comprehensive and plan on attending nearly all classes to do well.
He is a terrible terrible man. LISTEN TO THE BAD COMMENTS ON THIS PAGE. PLEASE!!! IF HE IS THE ONLY TEACHER LEFT TO TAKE ACCOUNTING, WAIT A SEMESTER, YOU WILL FAIL IT ANYWAY! He is very old and very angry. He has a limp and i feel he takes it out on his students. You will leave this class learning nothing, and with a GARUNTEED F!!
He is a tenured teacher, and he cannot be fired, but he needs to be. HE DOESNT GIVE A SH#T ABOUT HIS STUDENTS AT ALL. He is not a teacher anymore, he's an old man who enjoys the extra money and personal pleasure he gets from watching students suffer through an impossible course. It's not too late for you, DO NOT take this course with davis!
All Hail Lord Davis
This guy is absolutely out of his mind for a Principles of Accounting class! Maybe he needs to be reassessed for this class and reconsidered for being the instructor of a higher accounting course!

I really like Dr. Davis. He is a little intimidating but he really knows his stuff and you will learn a lot.
Very comes off as a bit scary in the beginning, but he gets slightly better. Tests are very hard, directions are often strangely worded, homework is obnoxious because you haven't covered the material yet; do all your homework and study and maybe you'll do okay. Try to avoid at all costs. Overall I would rather have genital **** than take him.
He seems like a really mean guy at first, but hes really not too bad. the only thing is every other word he says is "as such" "etc. etc." its annoying. Homework is easy, but theres alot. Just read the book. Answers are in the back or on the books website. he gives you the powerpoints but he changes things and tests you on that. so go to class.
Tough
Dr. Davis comes across as a tough guy that doesn't care about his students, but it's a front. He's a great professor, you'll learn a lot, but you have to work hard. The only drawback is that he doesn't grade on a curve and his final exam is extremely difficult.
There was homework due on the very first day of class. Homeworks typically take about 2.5 hours to do, sometimes more. Quizzes are tricky. The lecture isn't that helpful since it happens only AFTER you've done the homework already. The final was extremely difficult. Study and put your time in and you'll do fine, but don't even dream of an A.
The class is fairly difficult and there is no grading on a curve. Tests are much more difficult than the homework assignments and the in-class examples. The course project was quite easy and is a good opportinmity to raise your overall grade. You will work very hard in this class and will most likely not get an A. ..As such.
Have you ever seen the movie SAW? IF you have consider him John.
Mr. Davis is the worst professor I have had in my time at Canisius. He flips through slides and gets off on giving people bad grades. He turns everyone off of wanting to be an accountant in their last semester before graduation. Get luck getting a job when they see your D or F in his class. Hes asks irrelevant questions on exams
Prof. Davis is probably one of the best professors I have had at Canisius. It is true, this class is not for the faint at heart, but if you put the time in, you will learn. Attendance is mandatory and the tests are extremely difficult. He is passionate about what he does and he is credited for the supreme passing rates on the CPA exam.
Dr. Davis was the worst professor I have ever had. He apparently hates teaching & made it clear that he thought we were all idiots. We had to group together outside of class to learn the material that he didn't teach. You work for hundreds of hrs on a project but if you don't pass the last part you get a zero on the whole thing. What a waste.
This class is NOT an easy A, you have to work hard with Dr Davis. He is a tough teacher with a sarcastic dry sense of humor. He does come across a bit scary at first but then once you get used to him its not that bad. Read before coming to class, take notes, ask questions.
Absolutely horrible teacher, gives 5 hours of homework each night that is only worth 5% of your grade. Doesn't care if you are confused or have a problem. Extremely hard tests. Caused me to switch my major from accounting. As such, etc, etc.
This is the most miserable man in the universe. He is not helpful and does not care if you understand the course material. Go ahead and read the textbook and do the homework but then when you get to class he will tell you that "his way is the only way, how could you people not know what I want just b/c it wasn't in the textbook.. as such, etc. etc.
This class is truly the worst experience you may ever have at school. I really do enjoy accounting, but this man could make you change your major. Incredibly angry and jarring. Intimidating to say the least, and creates the WORST atmosphere in his classroom. Unbearable...
Dr.a Davis is the man. His power points are hilarious and he may be the most approachable prof. I've ever had. Extremely fair grader and he never tests on anything that he does not go over in class. With the Apple Blossom Audit Case he clearly outlines the assignment and there are little to no surprises. Overall a great experience and great prof.
Ignore the review below; only the mentally deranged would think that about this man. His tests are extremely difficult and have a lot of irrelevant questions, flies through powerpoints and expects you to know it all, directions are unclear at best and so is he in what in wants. Miserable, ancient, and unapproachable. As such, etc etc
You get what you put into it. Obviously, people who get it will have less work to do than people who struggled through principles. That's life, deal with it. He is approachable, and not this monster people make him out to be. If you want to learn, seek him out. If you want to be a zombie and get an "easy A", there are other teachers...
Very much the monster people make him out to be. His mission is "weed people out", but he doesn't stop here. He demoralizes students, tests on whether or not you can decipher the wording of his questions, not on how well you know the material. I don't care if Canisius students have a 100% CPA pass rates. Don't treat people like this.
For those of us in the evening MBA program because we work full time, this class is impossible. The amount of time that Apple Blossom requires drastically cuts into the time necessary to prepare for exams, and it's only worth 10%. Either make it worth more and cut out other homework assignments,or require only some parts to be done.
Gave a zero if you didn't get 60% on the final apple blossom case. Gave a zero for MBA assignments and homework if you didn't get 60% for the semester. Gave a zero if you didn't do assignments his way, without telling you, so gave a zero for not reading his mind. Gave a zero for using pen, staples, short-hand, having a bad day, as such, etc. etc.
Not meant to be an easy class...but Davis will make you do the work and in turn your going to learn a lot despite most likely not getting an A...prepares you well for the rest of the accounting courses at Canisius
If you enjoy being told how dumb you are then this is the class for you. Apple Blossom is the biggest joke, he takes off 1 pt for missing a tick mark, as such. He does not teach anything and you could put a monkey in place of him and learn more. He laughs at the amount of work he assigns and thinks it is fun to demoralize students.
Homework and lecture notes didn't prepare you well enough for the exams that counted 90% of your grade. Felt confident on the second test and got the same result as I did on the first, a 40.
Your goal going into this class needs to be to LEARN. If your aim is to just get by then you're lucky if you pass. Davis is a great teacher in that he teaches you real world applications. If something is unclear and you're afraid to visit him at his office that's your own fault. As others have said, he's incredibly approachable. I got a B-
Dr Davis knows what he is talking abt & his class is actually not bad to attend. Dry humor, but funny @ times. Outside work for audit is insane. If you have a full-time job forget abt it, you will have a full time job when you get home too & its your prob, not his. Grad students also get extra papers. Final Project grading is pretty unfair.
Tough class. Tough Exams. Fast lectures. Really hard to pass. This makes or breaks you for accounting. Lots of students changed majors after this class. Even if you take the class with Gress, just as tough of a class. It only will get worse. Be prepared to struggle for staying in the accounting program. Definitely buy the textbook and read!
He's an intimidating guy, his class is hard, but I respect him. Homework and reading are a must, but the homework is so much easier than the work given on the tests.
Better off just taking 211 in the spring and 212 in the summer. Save yourself from his ridiculous expectations, he's not a good professor.
If you arent smart do not expect to pass the class. Only 5 of us got above a B. Started with 100 students in accounting and after his class 23 were left. His tests are hard and you better know what youre doing. He knows what he is talking about and has high expectations. Canisius' ACC program is top in country and this is why. Definetaly respecthim
Toughest course I have ever taken. You will spend 15+ hours a week chipping away at the course long project, which at the beginning and end will require 30+ hours. Overall the course is very challenging, but not impossible - you can succeed and doing so is very rewarding. Will set you up nicely for the CPA exam material.
Tough grader and makes you work for your grade. Helps make your decision to be an accounting major concrete and prepares for other professors later in college career.
Dr. davis is a freaking angel sent from the heavens above. He is adorable and the best professor I've ever had. I respect him a lot and he will help you with any questions you have about the material. I highly recommend him he's perfect.
Dr. Davis is the best professor ever. He has a great sense of humor and is very friendly in class. His exams are really easy so I would recommend studying for 15min before class. He rarely assigns homework. He expects you to show up to class on time or else you have to say sorry. I wish he taught all my classes he is the best. #bless #besteve
Dr. Davis is an extremely intelligent man. His class is a lot of work, but he really prepares you for the rest of your accounting classes at Canisius. He is a very nice man and is willing to help any student if that student shows he/she is making an effort to do well. Dr. Davis is well respected
I'll be honest, I didn't like Dr. Davis when I took his class. I graduated this past May, and I can't emphasize how happy I am to have taken his class. I struggled, but I absolutely am prepared for my job. In the end, stick it out, grow up, and if you can't hack it, change majors. Accounting at Canisius is hard, but you will have a job.
Dr. Davis' exams are not meant to prepare you/learn the material. They are meant to make you fail because his grading policy is unclear, different grading on each problem, and all over the place, hard to understand. He is just simply not nice in class, and EXPECTS YOU TO KNOW EVERYTHING BEFORE EVEN TEACHING THE LESSON. Awful professor. Hate him.
Dr. Davis gets an unfair reputation from many students because he is a tough teacher that expects his students to be prepared. He is easy to talk to outside of class. As long as you read, do homework, and study for exams you can succeed in his class. Many of the reviews that are negative come from students who are lazy and just don't want to work
This class is the toughest I have taken. The Apple Blossom project will consume any time you may have. Tests are very difficult, study alot. Graded materials are tough to decipher what you got wrong with random green lines through things. Advice: Never use pen, only use a 1" binder for Apple Blossom, work with a group, and stick the course out.
Davis is way too smart to be teaching basic accounting. When you ask a question, he tells you to read the book. I went to the tutoring center to ask questions about the homework and even they couldn't help me. 85% of your grade is exams but they are nearly impossible. This is the hardest class I've ever taken.
