You really write a lot in his class, but you definitely learn a lot. He's very funny, and he will definitely help you learn how to write well. I've known some people to get an A in his class, but for the most part I think most people got B's.

He's intelligent, witty, and willing to impart his knowledge to others. Take him, you won't regret it. If you listen, you will learn.

His class is interesting. His motto is that he likes being a student himself. During group discussions, which are everyday, he lets the class talk about what they feel is significant, listens, and gives his own feedback which is all effective teaching.

This guy is great. His enthusiasm is as high as his knowledge. He's interesting, funny, and call him Cho-Cho Boy, he'll never admit to you what it means, but he's great!!

If you like discussion, he's your guy. I found all the discussions to be highly insightly and intriuging. He's not your typical English teacher, he's a rare find. You'll walk out learning more about yourself everyday. Dont miss out take Prof. Dickerson!

He's a really cool guy, really funny and makes learning fun; however, I have to agree that he grades more difficultly than others, and his horrible handwriting doesn't help (but maybe if you talked to him he could clear that up)

nicest guy ever! his classes are chill and relaxed. mainly open discussion of reading and sometimes get to watch movies. very FAIR grader.. i was thee worst writer when i took his class, got all Bs on my papers and he still gave me an A :)

Awesome lectures, engaging, insightful. Most of his reading selections are still my favorites. This is the only english prof I've taken who's had the balls to give me a C. And I loved him for it. He challenged me to actually improve the quality of my writing instead of letting me be lazy.

this is definitely an awesome class. lots of reading (but they're good books/short stories). He also challenges you to improve your writing. He gets you to think by asking tons of questions in class, and his enthusiasm for literature is contagious.

I love this man. Great teacher, excellent comments on your essays, and really interesting lecturer. A bit of an uber-left wing liberal though. Anyone who thinks this man is hot has very low standards and needs to get out more.

His Honors English class exceeded my expectations. The class was challenging, but he got me involved in class the first time in my life. He appreciates different opinions, so for the essays, it's okay to write about your own ideas as long as you can back it up. You REALLY learn how to write. He made me want to choose EWRT 1B Honors for next quarter

funny guy, but sometimes sarcastic. he's a great teacher and i love the group discussions. i was really able to speak my mind without feeling judged. great class, just stay on top of your homework. there a re a couple of essays, but it's an english class so what else can you expect?

Good teacher because can respect other people's opinions and doesn't let his own affect his grading.Knows how to open your mind to new things/ideas during his lectures.I greatly respect and admire his ability to admit his own faults inspite of his stature.Just needs a bit of structure and toning down on sex talk sometimes.Otherwise,is outstanding!

Bob Dickerson has a sense of humor, and likes class discussions and makes them fun. This class was about Shakespeare, and every possible pun and sexual innuendo in those plays was pointed out to us over the course of the class. Anybody with a sense of humor or an interest in Shakespeare should take this class.

Hands down,best teacher I've ever had in my entire life!His passion and ego-less character helps a lot in his teaching.Even finds time to organize alternative classroom learning sessions in poetry.I thinked I reached moments of self-actualization in some of his classes.Very concerned with the potential of each student.

Greatest English class I've ever taken. I aspire to be as awesome as he is. I finally enjoy The Great Gatsby. If you don't like English, you will after you've taken one of his classes.

One of the best shakespeare professors on campus. His wit and insight is what makes his classes the fun they are. Not afraid to clown on students and still creates a friendly, open atmosphere in his classes. Definitely recommend this guy. Remember to point out every phallous symbol in every book you read! ;)

This guy is god-like! He'll work you, but you'll see your writing improve before your eyes. There's a big emphasis on reading the material, but that's expected for English classes. There's never a boring lecture and it pays to listen to what he has to say. TAKE HIM!

Mr. Dickerson is probably THE best english teacher at de anza. There were about 5-7 essays on topics that he gives you. Every class is basically about reading some passages from a collection of stories then discussing them. REALLY REALLY great discussions. I got about an 88 on every paper and I still got an A in his class. TAKE THIS CLASS!

LOVED THE CLASS! GREAT teacher! You do have to work your a** off for an A but other than that I do not believe that the grading was too overboard. Pretty much the man makes you want to write, and by the end of the course you will see essay topics everywhere you go, but maybe it is just me :D Highly recomended for kids of all ages.

Great teacher! Very easy going and laid back. Just read materials ahead of time and prepare for in class discussion. About 5-7 essays, many topics to choose from. Allows you to leave room for in-class essays (can go home/library to do it). I got solid B's for all essays and ended up with an A in the class. Perhaps he grades on improvement.

Aaawesome teacher! He's laid back and easy going but you have to work on your essay to earn your grades but otherwise he's very helpful and makes student engage in classroom discussions. In-class essays can be taken home or done at the library or anywhere you felt like! He also encourages us to be creative and experiment on title and essay format.

Funny and cool teacher. Challenges you to look below the surface in stories and makes you elaborate on your answers in class discussions. Hard grader, but is always available for help. Lots of readings, but they're fun short stories, and not the typical english class stories either.

Bob Dickerson is the most exceptional professor I have ever had. I took many of his courses and found each one absorbing, intellectually challenging, and wholly valuable. Through his guidance I learned to be a stronger writer. I am indebted to his insight and greatly appreciate the invaluable contributions he has made to my college career.

A god among english teachers. funny, outrageous, involving (i took the 2hr 40min class, i could do it with no one else but him), class oriented like all english. He has a goodtime teaching and talking and that reflects on the class and helps the creativity and writing ability. He is one of those teachers you'll remember forever.

Bob's amazing. He really is with his laid-back, funny self. We did a little too much reading, though. I barely had time to read everything but still got a good grade in the class with most of my essays being B's, I got an A overall! =]

Mr. ****erson HAS to be one of the BEST English teachers EVER! I took his Shakespeare class and his EWRT 1B class because he truly is phenomenal. Mr. ****erson is absolutely amazing. Not only does he love literature, he enjoys film and theater and is very knoweledgeable about history. He's hilarious and charming. You will learn a ton in his class. I've had great teacher's before.. Mr. ****erson made me want to be an english teacher. I might have a crush on him. <33

I tranferred from DeAnza to UC berkeley back in 1992. I always knew I would be a literature major but Mr. D really inspired me and showed me a new world of American Lit. I am glad he is still teaching.

The experience you get in Bob's class is definitely one to remember. His lectures are impressively interesting and his course was life-affirming and helpful. That said, I think he probably wrote some of these responses himself... The "girl" who had a "crush on him" for example... ah well, that's a little taste of his sense of humour for you.

EWRT 1A with Bob was my first ever college course. I took him again for ELIT 17 just because he was the teacher. He is an amazing person who pushes you to be creative and take risks. His lectures and entertaining and hilarious. Show up, do the work and participate and you're sure to get an A.

I was dreading taking 1A but I liked Mr. ****erson so much that I am now taking 1B because he is teaching it. He doesn't have rigid guidelines on essays so you are able to develop your own style but at the same time, he is really good at explaining different ways to organize your paper so that it is fluid. Also, great sense of humor!

Great teacher. The class was more than an English class, it was inspirational. The class was an experience. Loved his free way of teaching. Bob really encourages his students to explore different styles of writing, and expand their ideas. Recommend to those who actually want to learn!

Do not take this class expecting to get an easy A. You DO have to read the materials and write your papers. However, an amazing teacher. Brilliant, exciting, knowledgeable. Helpful with writing and understanding the text! Highly recommend if you want to improve your writing and analytical skills!

Bob is a beast!!!!! hard teacher but you learn alot from his class about writing. lots of essays so be prepared but he really helps u write better. better read what he assigns cuz it will really help. funny like hell too. all exams are essays but he usually lets you take it home. take him hes cool

1B with ****erson was a good class but he grades hard. He is a great teacher though, but he will tell you (really he said this) that for him to give an A on an essay it has to be so good that he falls out of his chair and spills coffee on himself. He's funny but a little perverse and makes girls feel uncomfortable sometimes.

it's true this class is easy and i love the books read, but this is one of those classes where people will say things just for the sake of discussion. students in this class try to find meaning where there is none and receive praise for it. once you find out that he likes that kind of thing, its easy to get an A

Bob is top notch. Not the easiest, but if you want to learn, Bob is a great teacher to have. To the person below, Bob is trying to teach you how to be analytical and think for yourself, you might not think that's important, but it's more valuable than anything else you can learn at school. Class participation is important, stop being a Nancy.

Maybe the best English teacher I had since learning English. Engaged, enthusiastic, crazy, interesting, original, a very cool teacher. Class is actually fun to come to even if he picks on you its usually funny. The books we read are lets just say "interesting".

we read several short stories a week and write an essay based on 1-2 of them once a week 6-7x. you need the read the books/he explains them thoroughly in class. i loved the stories he assigned/ temporary matter/after the quake/breakfast of champions/six degrees of separation.. take the course, his commentaries changed my life :)

LOVE BOB!!!! he is so laid back and funny.. so many life experiences to share with you.. to the person who said it's hard to get an A.. it's really not.. do you reading and try to write a good paper.. it's not impossible i got A's on most of my papers. TAKE HIS CLASS YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

He kept class really interesting with his funny little comments and jokes. He's really into the subject, no official textbook but we interpreted poems (you don't have to write your own). Heavy class discussion, few assignments. It's great if you have opinionated people in your class. I loved this class! take him if you can!

Its my 3rd time taking his class. What more can I say? He's one of the best Elit teachers at Deanza PERIOD! He's charming, insightful, cleverly humorous and he makes class fun! Very few assignments, he's become an easier grader on essays. We ended up not having any finals! Love Mr D! students who are taught by him are very fortunate!

Awesome awesome awesome! By far the greatest english teacher I've ever had at de anza. He is inspires you to want to read and write more (opposite of all the dry boring teachers). Makes class really fun, his great personality is what keeps the class going. Def take him he is probably one of the best teachers at de anza!

Bob is passionate about english, literature, and teaching students to think for them selves,that said... this was the most fun I've had in school in a long time. Bob is a riot!!! You will want to be at every class meeting there will be work, the readings are relevant, and the class conversations are awesome. ask him about a pencil stuck in the neck

Dickerson is the best English teacher I've had so far! I heard his grading was really tough but I managed to get a B in the class which wasn't too bad. He is really clear on what he wants from you, and he is always willing to help! Great teacher!! Take him if you can!

I had him for Shakespeare and he is an awesome teacher. He wants everyone to learn something and is very passionate. He gets mad when people don't show up to class but if you do, he makes it fun and interesting!

Amazing teacher. I absolutely loved his class. He really cares about his students and takes an invested interest in them. Highly recommended, especially if your writing is decent-above average and you really want to improve.

Funny guy, makes writing interesting. Very hard on grading though. Majority of the class mostly got C's on their essays. A lot of in class writing and almost 1 essay a week. Not my type of teacher, too opinionated on media and politics, has the tree-hugger/hippy character. If you a passion for writing and see it as an art, take the class.

Take his class. You will become a better writer, if you're willing to put in the work. He's a hard grader, but once again, if you put in the effort, you'll learn a lot. I know I did. I wish he taught every English class.

Great professor, makes writing interesting. Analyzes every little detail; all the books I bought were constantly used throughout the class. Lots of discussion!

Take him!! I thought he was weird at first but his sense of humor grows on you, he really is a funny guy and his class is not as hard as everyone says it is.

Dickerson is not for everyone; no absolutes or memorization. He loves using sarcasm and playing devil?s advocate. Graded only on essays, but they are FUN. He teaches you to THINK and ask questions about yourself and the world. You want a class about facts, look elsewhere. You want a class that will ready you for real life, Dickerson all the way.

He's an awesome, very sarcastic funny guy. You must read though. I didn't read sometimes and got lost. Participate in his class and you'll be good. He likes people who talk because then he makes fun of you and relates to you, in a nice way. Take him if you can.

He's a smart guy, free thinker and sometimes off the charts. But what I want to point out is that he's a extremely hard-grader. The last "A" he gave out was 12 years ago(No kidding, he said it) So, if "A" is what you want, shun. If not, take him.

Hard Grader(only because he wants you to learn!), but great teacher! I love his class although i'm not the best writer but he gets you to think and improve more on writing. although i might get a C or B it's okay cause I won't regret it. btw he loves his students so he brings us snacks :)

Bob is great! He's hilarious and very insightful! Attendance and participation is super important in his class. His grading system is a bit ambiguous. I was expecting to get a B in the class based on what I heard, but I got A's on most of my essays. You'll definitely improve as a writer and a thinker! Not an easy A, but still a great class to take!

Intro to Poetry with Bob was great! I had him before for English and learned a lot from him. I feel like I improved my writing with his help. Easy A if you show up to class and listen to the sarcastic yet brilliant things he has to say! I recommend taking him.

Hard grader in terms of structure. He's helpful during his office hours so go see him and get to know him, he's lovely. This class is not an easy walk in the park if you want a good grade. I had to rewrite all of my take home essays to earn my "A." Uses all the books on his website so buy and read them because your essays are based off of them.

Tends to go off topic during discussions but they become thoroughly enjoyable anyway. His reading choices are quite nice and his class definitely helps you think and learn lessons about life so it's definitely recommended.

AMAZING!Bob not only made the beginning of a long school day easier but he was also very helpful! He is absolutely hilarious and witty. He knows what he is talking about and cares a lot about his students. The best part about him is that he only cares that you write from your heart, not the standard formatted essays we were always taught in school.

Bob is a very nice teacher. the class is really fun. he is a pretty chill teacher. he has brought us chocolate chip cookies and candy. i would recommend this class.

Hilarious guy and lectures are always interesting. I love that he encourages creativity. He tends to go off topic during discussions and can be a tough grader but he's very helpful.
