This is the guy not to take if you're trying to improve your gpa or goof off. You will have to put alot of effort into it. He is one of the best professors when it comes to teaching, however.
Not a good chem teacher at all. Then tests are just problems, no multiple choice.
Hard to follow in class, tests are equally confusing. Like the rest of the chemistry dept he has no problem with failing the whole class. The don't call him the Great White Death for nothing.

Dr. Donnelly is a really nice man & tries to me helpful. P-Chem is confusing anyways but he does a good job of being pretty straight forward & answering questions.
He is overall a good teacher. His tests are difficult if you do not understand the material or do not study, but he only tests what he goes over in class and narrows down what will be on the tests(sometimes even saying specific topics/questions that ARE)
Dr. Donnely is extremely smart and vary helpful in class. the course is tough, but if it were easy it would be boring.

He is probably one of the easiest of the lower Chem teachers. He is hard, but his old test are good study guides. Tests on the homework probs. a lot. If you go to class and try he's not too hard. I made a D b/c i didn't study.
Dr Death is not so bad. He helps you when you need it. The subject he teaches is the hard part. He has very poor eyesight, but that means you can cheat during the tests. There's always a plus to the bad qualities in a teacher.
the class is honors human odyssey..never participates in the class discussions, pulls random questions outta his pants for the tests/quizzes...not a very good teacher in this class

dr donnelly is not that bad if you study at all you should be fine. i had a tendacy not to study till the night before and i have made A's on every test so far. i would def try to get his class if you plan on going onto a higher chem class.
Probably one of the worst teachers ever. Test are very hard and he doesn't explain the info. very well. I practically had to teach the class to myself. I don't advise him.

He is an awful teacher or should I say teacher? He does not teach the class. His test are hard! He tells us that something is going to be on the test and it is not on there. Chemistry is a hard subject, and it is even harder to teach yourself.
this prof. drives me crazy!most of the time i just want to scream at him!if you do ask a question he makes you feel really stupid. he does not belong in a freshman chem. class at all!
Really boring, dumb jokes, but fairly easy tests. He will give "pop quizzes" and go over the answers in class. The cool part is that these quizzes comprise the exams!!

The lecture is pretty boring, but if you read the sections in the book that discuss the material he went over in class then you will do okay.

Unbelievably hard! I studied harder than I've ever studied and made a D in the class and I'm an A student. If you want to pass, get a professor who actually teaches.
He tells you what will be on the exam then its not! He wants you to fail so he can be lazy and not teach...Oh and dont ask him a question because he will make you feel stupid...GOOD LUCK IF YOUR IN THERE!

Dr. Donnelly isn't very helpful in class. He often flies through notes without explaining anything, nor does he review for test at all!
Eh... he's okay. Sometimes I feel kinda lost and I have to go back and look in the book, but today he went really slow and explained everything pretty well. The last few classes I've been confused though, and I'm trying my hardest to get an A.
Dr. Death (His fellow professors call him this)allows you to have a one page cheat sheet (8.5x11 front and back in pencil) for the final exam. If he didn't allow this, I would not have passed with my "D". Save yourself now. Don't even sign up for any of his classes. A in lab, D in class.
The class is not hard if you know the equations and how to name compounds. The notes are not very organized and his tests are from all of the possible material. If you are not good at chemistry, don't take his class.
professor is really unclear but his tests are okay. HE gives us a practice exam before each test and thats pretty much where the test comes from. Just know how to do your homework problems and know the equations and concept and you will be fine.You'll have to study on your own a lot.
the only reason i have an A is that i knew the subject inside and out before taking his class. DO not, i repeat do not sign up for him if you can take another prof. He just throws up papers and does not explain them, and his tests could be about anything, and sometimes he doesnt even give u info
Oh wow, this guy is awful. He can not see nor can he hear, nor can he teach. His tests have random surprise questions like how much does a baseball weigh?!?! What does that have to do with chemistry. Hope you never have to take this guy for chemistry... EVER

From a SR in ECPE: Dr. Donnelly is disrespectful and demeaning to students and interrupts his lectures for petty annoyances, which ends up distracting more students than he intends to punish. He contradicts terminology from the text and it is impossible to speak to him, as his arrogance is stifling.

Dr. Death is so hot and deserves the name the tests are hard but easier with LOTS of studying. Final is much easier that the other tests. Need to go to class cause the book is a little confusing and he explains the stuff...kinda. His side notes are often and many and come right out of the blue.
Dr. Donnely, (AKA DR Death)to put it bluntly, needs to retire. He knows what he's talking about, but he's very arrogant and is hard to talk to. I went to see him in his office and he turned his back on me. If your taking him, STUDY!Don't get behind.Stay ahead and always know what he's talking about.
Great teacher and a very nice person. Physical Chemistry is difficult no matter what, but Dr. Donnelly does a good job of putting it on the students' level and making sure everyone understand what is going on.
He is not clear at all. When a lecture is ovre on some days you just sit there and ask what in the world did he just say. STAY OUT if you can!
Dr. Death was a pretty crappy teacher. He lectures to you like you are a chemist and expects you to know what he is talking about. His tests are similar to his practice tests, but you will have to read the book and do all the exercises he assigns just to make a B.

Kind of intimidating at first. He expects you to come to class. Pay attention and get a good seat. His tests are lengthy and very hard. Make sure you do the practice problems. It is tough for him to bring it down to a beginners level when I haven't had Chem in 3 years.

He Sucks!!! do not take him!!! I studied so hard and only got a c. the tests are on stuff he never went over. He thinks we are the smartest people ever and it is only a beginning class. Also the tests are long and you run out of time and get counted off!
Don't expect any chemistry to be a breeze. Dr. D won't spoonfeed you the material, you have to do work on your own. Made lectures entertaining, and is good with giving bonus points for those who come to class. We were allowed a cheat sheet on the exam. Won't respond to e-mails.

This guy sucked!Do not take him. He teaches on a graduate level, makes it way harder than it has to be, and overall does not explain material well enough to understand it. He doesn't allow enough time to complete a test. Overall, he is a terrible teacher, but he has tenure.
Dr. Donnely is the most difficult professor I have ever taken for anything. He is a truly brilliant man, but cannot convey the information from his head to yours. His class is hard as heck. Please save yourself some trouble and don't take him. Please. Please. Please.
Extremely hard class, on top of him not being a very good teacher. He has an attitude towards the students that you should already know the material, and it is just way to much to understand in a short amount of time. Be prepared to memorize equation after equation for each test. This was by far the hardest class I've taken so far at AU.

Donnelly has to be the worst teacher I have ever had. I am a senior and I have NEVER had a grade below C in any class I have taken but I failed his class. He is so notorious for failing people that professors in the other schools(liberal arts, engineering, etc.) know his reputation. If you take any class of his, MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOU!
This class is impossible! I went to every class, did all the homework, and read the book and didn't manage a C in there. If you email him about help, he won't respond. His office hours are convienently during the lab...so you can't make them. The avaerage on every test was in the 50's.
The hardest class I have ever taken. Not becasue of the material but becasue of the professor. He is the worst professor at AU. Do not take him. He will not help you. If you have him save your GPA and drop the class. You can't understand a word he says. I had a 100 in Chemistry I and I failed this class. Don't take him.
You MUST be a serious student to do well. I had him for both CHEM's. He's a tough professor. He doesn't seem to enjoy teaching or care about his students. I made an A in CHEM 1 and a B in CHEM 2 (not easy to do). If you fail the 1st test, consider dropping the class. You must be dedicated to survive this course. Don't rely on grade curves.
Thinks he's some sort of transcendentalist or great thinker and tries to act like one. But he's just a teacher whose ego is overbearing and ideas are lacking in depth.
A terribly hard teacher. I am a biology major with a 3.79 GPA and classes are usually not a problem for be, but no amount of studying did me any good. I came out with a C after the curve and was so thankful. He can be rude, but as a rule he is very enthusiastic. If you can, avoid him. I'm sure he would he better for higher level classes.
Great guy and solid teacher. Not interested in research or keeping many office hours (piano?), but is very fond of mathematics. I sleep better knowing that he weeds out many "questionable" pre-meds and engineers. If you did poorly in his class and have a 3.5+ GPA, your other teachers lied to you: you're neither brilliant NOR a unique snowflake.

This guy is the worst teacher ever! Is he even a teacher? His notes were everywhere, he was hard to understand, grumpy, and changes the test dates and times on you to accomodate his schedule... and he didnt exam on his notes, or on the book for that matter. I studied my ass off and I had a hard time answering some of those questions. Dont take him!
HARD, VERY VERY HARD! Drop him if you can, but if you can't, it is possible to pass his class. You will just have to teach yourself and pray that he is in a good mood so he will make an easy test. Good Luck.

Please. This guy isnt that hard. You just have to apply yourself. Auburn students as a whole just are not that bright. If you have any bit of intelligence you figure out how to study. You basically teach it to yourself, and you do well. Do not rely on his notes.

Donnelly couldn't teach his way out of a paper bag. His lectures are scattered and irrelevant. His tests are completely random, and he doesn't make much of an effort to help you. I will probably make either a B or C in this class, but it isn't easy. I never know what to study for his tests. I don't recommend him unless you like teaching yourself.

Dr. Donnelly is the worst teacher ever. He seems to take pleasure in seeing his students fail. I studied HARD for every test, and never did well. The only good thing is that he will give you BS quizzes to help raise your Quiz grade, and that is the only thing good about him.

I can't help but think that if I had taken any other class that I would have gotten an A. Donnelly is nice enough as a person, and he does give free quizzes and a few bonus points to help grades, but he practically has to because everyone would fail otherwise! I ended up with an A (a 90), a B, and 2 Cs on my tests, and I studied hard for them.

This semester I made an easy 4.0 while taking CHEM 1111. I took Dr. Donnelly as a freshman and barely pulled a C. On his final I only answered one page (seriously). The final was so ridiculous that students went to the dean and complained. It had to have been dropped because I would have failed the course. He does have a sweet beard though.
Not as bad as people made him out to be. Gives tons of bonus.

Although I made an A in his class, Dr. Donnelly is not a very good teacher. I had to teach myself the material. If there are no other choices, set up an outside tutor and really do well on the first test because that's as easy as it gets! Also, check his answers; if I hadn't I wouldn't have made an A. Go to class on Fridays and take the quizzes!
Class is very hard and the tests are harder. Donnelley makes you derive all the formulas on the test. He used a different book to lecture from than what was assigned for the class reading, making some of the symbols different.
This guy's class was outta of control..I have never failed a class before and this class became the first. Tests were extremely hard. Book is waste of money. Take notes because they will help on quizzes and a LITTLE on TESTS..I went to study sessions, did the homework and still failed. The only good about the class are the free quiz grades.

this guy is a total goof, i hate how he brings up his really contorversial opinions and then makes a mockery of you if you don't agree, he made me feel horrible in human odyssey and i will not be continuing because he is such a nut. not a good teacher...AHHH. so much reading and then the quizzes aren't on the reading, tests are unbelievable hard.
I think most of the people who do not do well think that this is just high school chemistry.it is hard. But he tells you that when you start the class.he's very honest about what you need to expect.He tells you what you need to read in the textbook and hw problems you should do.do that,and you'll do well in the class. Plus he gives tons of bonuses
This guy's not all that bad of a teacher. He has quizzes every Thursday which makes you study alot so you're familiar with stuff when tests roll around. His attendance policy is REDICULOUS.. I had an 84.9% after the final and everything but got an FA for missing 4 classes, 1 more than allowed.....
I got screwed on the first exam, which was basically a 1030 review, which I wasn't expecting. I bounced back and he is a pretty good teacher who definitely loves what he does and doesn't appreciate people who halfass it through the semester. He wasn't very helpful 1 on 1 b/c he was always kind of a smart a**, but if you study you will learn.

His chem 1040 class is really hard. Make sure you do the homework problems and know how to work out every problem he gives on the weekly quizzes and you should do good for the tests. His final was ridiculously hard and everyone failed or got a D. Try not to get him!!

Check for correction on your graded test but even then he will blame you for cheating if you catch one of his errors.
This man is the meanest professor at Auburn. I had a 4.0 before his class. I'm pre-Med and suggest to anyone else applying to a professional school not to take him. He enjoys destroying your GPA. There was one test where the whole class was laughing because no one remembered covering anything on it. Everyone failed it and he didn't care.
He actually said this: "A D in my class is like a B from another instructor." How awesome is that? It certainly doesn't affect your GPA that way, does it? Do not take him even if he has the only section of CHEM still open for enrollment. This Christmas send him gift cards to a tanning salon.
