Professor Duerst is HANDS DOWN the best professor I have ever had. He wants every single one of his students to succeed and his powerpoint lectures are amazing. 110 percent recommend taking him!!!
Professor Duerst is very knowledgeable about what he teaches. He is a good lecturer and puts some humor into lectures, so class is interesting. Exams cover a lot of material, but his expectations are clear.
Great professor that explains ideas and concepts well. It is a tough course, but well worth it. Go to class and listen to his lecture recordings and you will be good.
This class is just really hard. Mr. Duerst is a good professor, but you need to study everyday for this class. This paired with lab is the most work I have ever done in for a class. He really cares about students success, and sets up review and practice quizzes. Go to class every day, and pay attention.
He is very energetic and enthusiastic about teaching a&p. He tends to rush through content really really quickly so at times you don't really know what you don't know. The course in general is pretty difficult with a lot of specific processes and terms, so study study study and you will probably do fine.
I was a little scared to take him at first because he was new to the campus, but he ended up being one of my favorite professors! He is 100% transparent with what he expects and what you need to know. I feel I deserved the grade I got with how much effort I put in
This is not an easy class because it is memorization-based, but he does everything he possibly can to help you succeed. He is accessible with office hours if you have questions, the practice exams really help and so does crash course anatomy and physiology videos. He also records his lectures so if you ever miss a class period you can watch it.
He is a very funny professor and always has a good story to relate to the content. He has printable lecture slides that you can print out and fill out during class. He gives practice questions and worksheets before every test, so if you study and go through them you should be set.
For being his first year teaching at a university I thought it was very well. Showing up to class and answering the questions will help boost your grade a lot. However, does post lectures and online practice assignments you can do. Go to open lab even though it sucks, definitely worth is.
a solid prof, LECTURE HEAVY, you need to learn how to study off of solely powerpoints. he goes pretty quickly through material, but thorough & uses personal stories to relate to us. kinda condescending if you go to his office hours sometimes, but don't be afraid to ask questions. tests are 50% of grade, takes attendanceicipation points too.
Prof. Duerst's lectures were actually not bad to listen to. He tells stories and relates to the material well. Tests are hard, but that's more due to the difficulty of the content than anything. Not many chances for points other than tests, quizzes, and attendance. Be sure to study TopHat review questions since copies of the ?s will be on exams
This class is more challenging than BIOL 214 but he makes it incredibly interesting. The things that helped me do well in this class were to study the TopHat review questions before exams, read/highlight/write out his powerpoint materials to comprehend it, watch crash course A&P videos on YouTube, and email him extra questions I had on content.
Professor Duerst is a great professor who makes lectures very interesting! This is a challenging class with challenging material but he make the class manageable. TopHat practice questions, open lab, and out of class studying will allow you to succeed in this class!
Professor Duerst is the best professor I have ever had. Anatomy is a very challenging class but if you establish a relationship with him and put in the extra work (open lab, office hours, supplemental instruction) it will benefit you! This class is hard but it is not impossible, especially with a professor like Duerst.
If you study hard & really understand the material you can do fine on his lecture exams. For lab exams, he is a stickler on them & he made them much harder, during COVID semester, without offering help. He also kept prelab quizes, as worth 15% of your grade, while only taking 2 of the 5 we took so far. Very arrogant & difficult to deal with.
He's such a good professor. He gives extremely detailed information and teaches it to you very well. There is mandatory attendance through the website TopHat. It tracks your location so you can't just click "I'm here" from your bed. The first test was easy for me, but the rest was more challenging. Overall great prof!
I have taken this professor during the time of the COVID-19 crisis, and overall he was not as understanding nor helpful. He did not take into consideration to show lab models that are used on lab exams prior to giving the exams, which ultimately makes you depend on the lab manual to study. Be prepared to study A LOT.
This is a challenging course, but it also helps when the person is teaching the material to actually teach and be helpful. As hard as you study for the lecture and lab exams, your grade ultimately depends on how well you do on them. If you have Mr. Duerst for lab pray that you actually have a good TA also.
Took the class over the summer. All i can say is, take everything you thought was enjoyable about summer and completely void it from your mind. This is needed because duerst sets unrealistic expectations for his students over a time for which many need to work to pay tuition. He is a bit egocentric, and the rigor required will consume your life.
Overall Mr. Duerst was an okay professor. He sometimes was very confusing in his lectures but when it came to the tests he gave u good study material. The thing that really upset me and made me dislike him is when I was going to take BIO 314 in the summer, I was going to miss a test because I was going on vacation and he told me to cancel my trip..
I was enrolled in this class while COVID happened so we had to switch to online. He was absolutely horrible, both online and in class. All he did was read from his slides and tell random stories that were not relevant. I personally hate the way he teaches. There were no study guides and you were graded only on tests only and the tests were not easy
I spent a whole summer driving around without my seatbelt on because I wanted to die before having to do this class. I didnt even have to meet the man in person to get his vibe. He spent more time over complicating the platform for which the class was delivered than he actually did teaching it. The devil is in the details with this guy. Good luck.
There are no study guides for any of the tests so be prepared to memorize all of his slides. DO NOT leave the testing area for any reason during a test because you will be heavily penalized or even have the test zeroed whether or not a viable excuse is provided. Ask lots of questions and be prepared to study a serious amount of hours for each exam.
Oh so you want to be in healthcare, have fun getting through this class. Unless you enjoy reading for hours and studying 40 hours a week, you will hate this class. Sure learning anat and phys is cool, until literally all you is read lecture notes until your brain feels like mush. I hated every second of this class and the way it was taught.
What is expected of you is very unclear. During his lectures (especially his online videos) he is very unprofessional. It is a difficult class and his teaching style does not make it any easier. The lecture exams are easier than the lab exams. You have to be specific on your answer during the lab portion but he doesn't tell you that until after.
Mr. Duerst is a good professor teaching a hard class. A&P has so much content that it is hard to learn everything. He gives good explanations and helps his students as much as he can. You will have to do a lot of studying and the lecture videos do take forever. Overall he is a good professor, better than the other A&P professors at UWEC.
If you can, do not take A&P and UWEC. Take these courses somewhere else. You will have a better chance at succeeding. I personally took this class online and let me tell you LOCKDOWN BROWSER will ruin you if your not careful. Theres very little room for error so I recommend finding another school to take these courses.
Caring? Not at all. I understand he has a job to do, but I had a fam member pass and my father fell ill and he showed no empathy. He doesn't care about your grade because he is still getting paid. 200+ slides to learn for an exam and then he puts ?'s not even taught in class. Many of my peers have had similar issues and had to retake the class 0/10
Definitely the worst professor Ive had at UWEC. His exams are extremely difficult no matter how hard you study (especially lab)! He is extremely arrogant and lacks empathy for his students. He was satisfied with class averages being a D or F. He simply would say study smarter. He made me question how much I love A&P. Literally awful. Dont take.
Every other review thats a 2 or under are correct. Get ready to drop an extra 270$ on a lab manual and website subscription. over 200 slides are put up for review giving barely ant context to what to expect. Tests forget about them impossible.
Worst professor at UWEC. His lecture exams are tough but lab exams are IMPOSSIBLE because they are so hard to understand with confusing questions that are never covered in lecture & you have to use LOCKDOWN BROWSER. Super arrogant & lacks sympathy for his students as well as being satisfied about the class averages being Fs & Ds. 0/100 recommend
I understand this course is difficult but he did not make it any easier, he is the worst prof i have ever had. The exams are extremely difficult, class is all self taught, he is okay is class averages under 70%. A Lot of people will have to retake the course due to it being so difficult! Would never take this class again unless required.
If there was an award for the worst professor ever he would win hands down and if that doesn't tell you enough about him then I don't know what else to tell you but good luck.
if you plan on having a social life as a freshmen do not take this course. there are about 7-10 videos a week ranging from 7-25 minutes each. he is not very helpful when you ask him about material and picks the slightest details from lecture to test you on even if he spent 5 seconds talking about it.
Be prepared to spend the majority of your time devoted to this class if you are looking to get a B- or higher. Each point matters, and it is possible to boost your grade with practice points. Content is interesting yet overwhelming so use your resources(textbooks, online, other classmates)to your advantage. Wished the class was fully in person.
Mr. Duerst teaches the lecture and some labs, with lecture online he reused his same videos from the previous semester and seemed very lazy when it came to teaching. He is not open to helping students with their grades. Make sure you get ahead in lecture and give yourself the MOST amount of time you can to study and practice for the material.
This class is almost entirely graded on exams and lab participation, so if you are not a great test taker or have really bad test anxiety I would not suggest this class. There is very little homework, but if you do not study for an hour or two every day then you will not pass.
This class is extremely hard and I understand it might be difficult to teach but each exam covers 300 slides worth of information and he doesn't give review time His exams are unfair and don't make sense. It's hard enough to learn all the information given to us at lecture, but he makes the questions so hard and they don't come from the notes
He is not a good professor! His exams are very difficult and rarely contain information that we focused on during class. He puts the smallest details on the exams. In addition, there is so much information yet he doesn't give any review time before exams. SO frustrating. In addition, he is not very helpful when it comes to having questions.
The grade you receive in this class will almost entirely depend on how you do on exams. There is almost no homework, and the homework he does have barely affects your grade. Duerst is very bad at answering questions directly. I usually feel more confused after asking him for help. He seems knowledgeable, but doesnt know how to teach very well.
Hands down worst teacher I've ever had. blabbers nonsense, treats us like 2 year olds, and prides himself on failing u. He has creepy tendencies and I believe he is very inappropriate. If youre reading this as a student, take bio online, and if youre uwec, no chance u can call yourself a nursing school with this donkey running bio. make a change
If you want to get into the nursing program, DO NOT take this class with Duerst. Be ready to drop an extra $200+ on a lab manual, iClicker, and access to homework. Your grade is reflected by exam scores and assignments do nothing to help. Forget using the "unit breakdown" to study, never relevant. Be ready to study in every free moment you have.
Whatever you do, don't take anat & phys with Duerst. This class absolutely plummeted my mental health and my GPA. You can study for hours and weeks and still not do good on the exams. Your grade is mostly reflected by exam scores and if you're a bad test taker, you are screwed. His class literally makes me rethink my entire career
Duerst is a terrible professor. He really only reads off of the slides of his powerpoints, and when he does go off topic it is both mildly inappropriate and mostly irrelevant. He also gets behind during lectures, so the last week or so of each unit he reads incredibly fast, which was very frustrating and did not help me learn the material.
Yeah, everything on this page is very accurate about Duerst and I have nothing really else to add. If you want a stressless semester, I advise you to take the course next semester online with the other professor or simply take the class at the tech. Highly inappropriate, uncaring, rude, and wants his students to fail.
Agree with everything everyone said, although I did well in his class it is very difficult. Lecture tests definitely the hardest part of this class. Not very friendly when I have talked to him outside of class, and somewhat inappropriate with in-class stories too, it's kind of weird.
Yes this class is hard but I think It could be easier if it was taught differently. There are irrelevant details on all the lecture tests and there are only 50 points on each. It feels impossible to actually be prepared for lecture tests because you have to study every piece of information for every side. Should have been more review questions+help
This class is going to break you down. Your self-esteem, mental health, and GPA are going to suffer. Duerst is arrogant, harsh, unengaged, and inappropriate. This professor prides himself on you failing his class. Grades are based on very difficult exams. Lecture exams= 50 ?s & 50 minutes to complete. Lab exams= 60-80?s & 30 sec per question.
If you want your self-esteem and GPA to tank, this is the professor/class for you. Tests are extremely difficult and have misleading wording in lab and lecture. I spent 2+ hours every day studying the content and attended SI group and it didn't help my grade much. He wants his students to fail and I stand by that. Take this class at CVTC instead.
Hardest class I've taken yet. If you don't know every single bit of information, you will not do well. Also, exams alone are weighted and account for 80% of your final grade. Avoid this class (& Duerst) if you can. This class made me feel more stupid and incompetent than I've ever felt before.
This class is hard but you must put in the time and work. Duerst is a very nice professor! He is always willing to help and explain concepts until you understand it. Exams were straight forward as long as you actually studied and had a strong grasp of material. Duerst gives you all you need to be successful but you need to put in the work!
Hardest class ever, I cried almost weekly. Duerst makes this class impossible. He mispronounces words and then expects them spelled correctly, puts info on tests that was only briefly discussed, and makes it incredibly difficult to get points. Lectures were interesting and I enjoyed the models in lab but the exams were ridiculously hard
As a college student, you need to take initiative and put in the work outside of class to succeed. Duerst follows this model, however he has amazing and engaging lectures that really help you learn. He is an all around great professor who is so passionate about what he teaches!! He will make sure you understand the content if you just ask for help!
I honestly haven't met one person that actually enjoyed Duerst or his class, which is terrible because A&P should be an amazing learning experience. I cried weekly because of this class. Be prepared to memorize the SMALLEST of details on both lab and lecture exams. It is unfortunate that UWEC doesn't have more A&P professors.
BIO214 with Duerst has been my worst experience at UWEC so far. Exams practically make up your entire grade, and lecture exams present content almost completely differently than lectures. He mispronounces a shocking amount of terms, yet expects you to spell them perfectly. Unless you have a spare 20+ hours per week, I would avoid him at all costs.
I can't rate Mr. Duerst low enough. He truly wants students to fail. This class is significantly harder than Bio214 which I didn't think was possible. You can study all of the lecture slides and lab models and still fail his exams. He doesn't care about his students and their success but just loves to brag about his knowledge in A&P.
He copies his slides straight out of the textbook and then reads them. So in going to lecture you are basically just having the textbook read out loud to you. He goes on inappropriate personal tangents that makes the class uncomfortable. If you have to take this class either wait to take it next fall with the new professor or take it through CVTC.
Duerst is the most unprofessional professor I have ever had. He goes on the most random tangents and shares very personal details that no one wants to hear. He is rude, misogynistic, can not pronounce the simplest words, and has a surprising limited knowledge of A&P to be teaching. His tests are very random, he quizzes you on the smallest details.
Professor sucks. Ask tons of ?s in lab because he will not go through much. Use the Anatomy Zone as much as possible. Keep an eye on lab objective sheets, change a lot without announcement. Read the textbook and watch Youtube videos to help with lecture. Staying on top of the content is key, easy to get behind. It is a hard class but you got this.
Professor Duerst is horrible. A&P is hard class but doable. We had a lecture exam and a lab exam every week. He tests on the smallest details, most not covered in the lecture videos. I emailed him on the first week of class and told him I was feeling overwhelmed and he told me unless I had 60 hours per week to spend on the class I should drop.
Please trust what we say. I got a tutor & went to the Anatomy Zone. Got a study group & yet everything I studied and worked very hard for failed. The book is exactly like the PowerPoints. U have to know the smallest details. This class is stressful & going to see him doesn't help. Study as much as U can & you be disappointed with the results...
Duerst is judged harshly by 1st and 2nd semester freshman and students who do not know how to study / lack the work ethic to study. His course was the hardest course I have ever taken, but I am so thankful I took it through him. As an aspiring medical professional, you want a professor like Duerst who has high expectations and does not cut corners.
Just take this class at CVTC or a different professor. Going to office hours doesn't help but you can try to get close to him to see if you can do better on the exams. The labs are straight on with spelling. Although, the lecture exams are very board. Make friends in the class. Very drained and not worth the stress. You can try but we warned you :(
This course is very hard and I'm not the type to give up easily. I will do my best I can knowing I at least tried. I went to get the help I need from the professor. I gave a lot of my time with this course. I study the materials very well. I don't recommend this class with Duerst. You are smart. Class is not worth the effort you put into. Terrible.
You could do a lot for this class and still fail. I don't recommend this class but if you think you can take the shot then be prepared on the exams. I don't want you to stress out doing all you can and not get the grade you deserve. Take this class with a different professor. You'll save a lot of time and won't stress on what to expect on the exams
Durest gets a bad reputation however his classes are very organized, with all the the content for the whole semester laid out on a google sheet. He answers any questions you need, and will give credit where it is due. This class will make you learn how to study, and yes it is challenging. However this class takes effort and STUDYING.
I know everyone complains about Duerst, but he is actually SUPER organized and very passionate about the topics. A&P is gonna be hard no matter the professor, but I don't think he makes the class needlessly complicated. That being said, you HAVE to study otherwise YOU WILL FAIL. Invest in Quizlet, it helps sooo much for the lab portion! Good luck!!
Attendance isnt mandatory but I believe showing up everyday to lecture saved my grade because of easier iClicker questions. There is honestly way too much information on every slide, especially with only 50 question lecture exams. However, as you push through, it gets KIND OF easier once you find out your learning style for this class. 5/10
He's gonna make you work really hard and is definitely a little quirky, but you can tell he's very passionate about what he teaches. I don't like that he purposely puts his office hours at 7 am, but thankfully you can ask him questions after class. Be ready for a lot of tests and a lot of studying. A&P isn't easy, but it's absolutely fascinating
Basically your whole grade in the class is weighted on tests. The tests cover A LOT of material, which makes them difficult. I think that A+P is a hard class in general, which makes it hard to like a teacher. Duerst seems to care about students learning the material but he doesn't always teach in a way that people have an easy time comprehending.
Duerst is a good professor teaching an incredibly difficult class. He is very tough but fair, and as long as you put in good work outside of class you should be able to do fairly well in his class.
Save you some troubles just don't take this class with this professor and someone else. You won't be satisfied with how hard and long you studied for. Long PowerPoints and study guides don't help. Good luck and best wishes. 0/10. He may be nice but not good with his learning style of teaching. It was a pain.
This class made me stressed and cry every week. Professor may be knowledge with his work but does a poor job making us ready for exams. Pointless PowerPoints, study guilds and help with office hours super early in the morning.
He teaches a very fair class and is a great prof. If you do not understand something, go to his office hours, which he offers at times that are great for students. He often will give hint to what to focus on for exams when you go because he notices effort. If you put in the time, you will get a decent grade. This grade will reflect work effort.
Avoid him. I studied 20-30hr/wk & barely passed. Awful teacher, can't even pronounce/spell words from lec/lab right. He does not want you to pass. He intentionally makes questions vague & difficult, you get 0 pts if you misspell 1 letter. Plus he'd call me (f) a nurse (he knows thats not my maj) & tell inappropriate personal stories in lec & lab.
He goes through notes in lecture insanely fast. Impossible to keep up if you are writing notes. Much better as a lab professor, however lectures were rough. Tests are almost all of your grade and the lecture tests were very hard and had super specific questions that were extremely hard to study for.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! Has so much in his lectures and when it comes to the tests, he puts the tiniest details into the test. Doing the study guide is almost a waste of time given that the stuff he has on there, the majority of it isn't even on the test! Tries to be funny but ends up just being annoying. Try to take with someone else if you can!
Worst lecturer ever! His lab exams are fine, but his lecture exams are super hard. His study guides don't even help that much as half the stuff on there doesn't show up on the exam. He tries to be funny but ends up just being annoying. Don't take him unless you really have to!
Wow. This class was so difficult and Duerst did not make it easier on anyone. He made this class impossible and took a subject I was very interested in and made it one of the last things I want to learn about. If you plan on taking this class with him GOOD LUCK, you need it.
He is ok, but I wouldn't take him again. I took this online and it was a 16 week course in 4 weeks, so yes there was a lot of material but in the end it was do-able. He did offer quite a bit of extra credit which was nice and was good at responding to emails and questions. He wasn't as bad as others made him seem.
Took online during the summer and wasn't "too" bad given it was condensed into 4 weeks. There is A LOT of material to go over and it was overwhelming but as long as you review the power-points/study guides and complete the post labs it will be fine and is doable. He wasn't as bad as I had anticipated based on previous comments.
*Online 8-week - A&P I and II sequence* Coming from a rigorous student, the difficulty of this class was expected considering I learned two semesters' worth of anatomy in 8 weeks. Students may be turned away due to the previous negative reviews-don't be. Pro: graduate early, balance work/course/relaxation. Con: time-consuming, MUST STUDY
Unnecessary sexist comments and targets students. Does not prepare students for materials that will be on exams.
Duesrt's method of teaching is not for everyone, but this course is fascinating and once you learn how to study for it you can most certainly succeed. This is not an easy class, but he gives out extra credit. If you use Quizlet to get the spelling of terms down and study with friends you can pass. It's all a matter of dedication.
Mr. Duerst is very knowledgeable on most topics related to anatomy and physiology. I think with A+P being a hard class, he gets a bad rap. BIOL314 seemed easier than BIOL214, just because I knew how to prep and study better. If he is the only option other than online, I would take it with him because you will learn more.
Duerst is a nice guy that has to teach a difficult class. Bio 314 consists of 7 exams, 4 lecture and 3 lab, which are all a challenge to do well on. He covers lecture material very fast making it challenging to understand some concepts; however, if you have questions and would like further explanation, he is more than happy to answer questions.
Dr. Duerst has a bad wrap, but hear me out. This man has great lectures that makes even the most boring stuff somewhat interesting. But do not get me wrong, if you do not study a lot, you will fail this class. There are a lot of free points, and 6% of final grade extra credit. I suggest to definitely spend some time in the anatomy zone for lab!
You're in a hard class, expect the ratings to be low. There are many other things he offers that can help you learn, but you should study for his exams. He claims every question was written straight out of his powerpoint from class, so study that. His office hours are at 7am or right after your lecture at 8am He has his inappropriate moments...
Instead of using the FREE website called canvas and rental textbook...he forces you to buy a $30 website, $50 website, $16 website, and a $70 manual that he wrote. It's not even optional because that's where all the homework and tests are. He makes the lab and lec feel like the same class, all we do is work on his manual he wrote...nothing fun.
This is my first class with him, and so far he seems like a really nice guy and a great professor. I wish we were able to just use canvas, but instead had to buy 4 other websites to do our homework on. The class has a lot of homework, but based on his lectures, he helps with the content very well, and makes it engaging and interesting.
His lectures are okay. The lecture slides are all very long, over 100 slides. He often remarks, "It's only 100 slides." Lecture exams are challenging. He includes the littlest details you usually pay little attention to. He tries to be funny but is annoying. He says lab doesn't mix with class, which often it does. Hates when you pack early.
very organized but the class is super difficult and sometimes he can be blunt with things
Dr. Duerst is a good teacher that teaches his lectures well. It just sucks that the content that he has to go through is intense. But if you continually study through this course you should be good.
He is open to recommending ways that will help you study and is good at lecturing but you must go over the material multiple times in order to understand it. Overall he was a good professor but his class is very difficult and requires HOURS of studying.
I studied hard for this class and barely passed, it takes up hours and hours of study time just to get the mean. Would not recommend taking at the same time as other hard classes, but if you have to, prepare to have no free time anymore as he says u never run out of study material, you run out of time.
A&P is very hard, get ready to study a LOT, many people have to take multiple times, Duerst is great in lab, lectures are alright not great, goes very fast, some people do just fine others are overwhelmed (me). He is a good teacher, just a content heavy subject, he is funny tho. GO TO CLASS for participation or you will fall behind.
The class material really isn't that difficult, there's just A LOT of it. Be prepared to look over material every day and find a good study method that's not just rereading slides. He seems nice but his lectures weren't anything special. If you know the material tests aren't that difficult (multiple choice). You have to pay for a lot of stuff too.
Just drop the class and don't even think about taking it over the summer. If you want to do well, or even pass, be prepared to study 40-50+ hrs per week. Class is abhorrently unorganized, and seems more like a collection of randomly accumulated photos and facts, yet his exams will expect you to know the most specific of details. Take another prof
TAKE ANYONE ELSE!
I don't think you understand how much I genuinely don't like this professor. He ZOOMS through slides in lecture and lab is just like a self-study session. He gives you a "list" of what will be on the quizzes/tests but there is so much he either doesn't put on the list or go over at all. It's crazy how awful he is, crazier than soul ties #loveisland
All you complaining are lazy a*s students who don't want to put any effort into a tough class. Dr. Duerst is a great professor, and the class is hard because it's supposed to be. If you can't handle basic anatomy, switch majors. Show up, take notes, study regularly, and stay organized—you'll get a B or even an A-. Stop whining and put in the work.
The material is difficult but not impossible. My big issue was with the Prof. He is unprofessional. I found his "stories" offensive. He commented when talking about female sexual response, saying he heard, "Females have appreciated the shape of their bike seat during spin class." Incredibly unprofessional and inappropriate.
Mostly everything you've heard about Duerst is true, he's pretty unprofessional, his comments and stories are inappropriate, and it's a tough class. However, he gives plenty of extra credit that can boost your grade by at least half a letter grade. You have to study and actually put time into this class, and it should be your highest priority class
Anat and phys is a difficult course as a whole but Duerst does a good job teaching it. It's a very lecture heavy course but if you show up, listen to what he says, and write down the information the exams won't be bad at all. Also, do the extra credit and go to office hours and you can more than likely get points back on both lab and lecture exams!
This class is tough but doable with diligent studying. The professor explains concepts well, but it requires hours of review. Platforms like unstuckstudy and the textbook are helpful supplements to the lectures. Attend every class and be prepared to put in the work.
He requires so many textbooks that you use once. The lecture exams have very little to do with the content from class and more to do with a single side comment he said
I know that Duerst has received many hateful comments on here, but I can say that he has been one of the best professors I've ever had. There is no doubt that anatomy is a hard class with hard material, but he does the best at trying to explain the content in an understandable manner. He is also such a sweet person and super kind!
He was my lab professor and wasn't great at explaining topics or preparing you for the quizzes. The quizzes were altogether awful and actually do have quite an impact on your grade. I HAD to study for these quizzes every week as the questions were so out of pocket. He also doesn't do a very good job of relating the labs back to the lecture.
This class is hard, but Duerst does his best to break down topics in an easy to understand way. Don't be afraid of all the negative reviews on here. In reality those people are not the ones willing or interested to put in the time to get a good grade in this course. I had friends who had difficulties in this course and it was 100% on their studying
He knows what he is talking about and shows passion for the class, however it is such a difficult class and he jams it up in so many slides
hes literally not that bad its just a hard class!!!
This class was very difficult content wise but I enjoyed Duerst overall as an instructor. He gave us a good amount of extra credit assignments some of which went towards the lecture exam portion of our grade which was a nice grade booster.
A&P is a class that shows how much effort people are willing to put.The content itself isn't extremely difficult, rather the fact there's just so much of it. Duerst gives out plenty of extra credit, is helpful in office hours, and provides additional study materials. I took my C from A&P1 to a B+ in A&P2. It's not the prof, it's your effort.
