A dedicated, inquisitive, and generous teacher who has the ability to make students think critically, work hard, and enjoy themselves. Br. Durning is one of Iona's greatest assets.

amazing professor

Durning is the coolest dude on campus. If you do what he tells you and follow his sheets, you will learn more than you have in all your years at Iona. He really makes his students become involved and passionate about material that can be considered old and boring. Amazing at what he does.

One of the finest teachers at the school. One of the most intelligent teachers I have ever had. If you're looking for a class that will actually teach you about classical literature, I recommend the humanities course (he's easily the most well read professor I've ever had). If you've ever had any questions about Christian sexual ethics, this man is the guy to see (he's read just about every piece of Catholic literature published on the subject). And an amazing person on top of everything else.

This is my first semester with Br. D and i must say that i'm so glad i switched sections in the humanities sequence. It was definietely worth it, Br. D is hilarious

Speaking from experience, even if you have a tiff with him, you can always go to him and work it out. He's always willing to help you and he's very giving with his time. He's a great and caring teacher.

BD is a character but is by FAR the best teacher at Iona. I've had him 5 times in my Iona career, nobody cares for students more than him and nobody is more available. He is ALWAYS willing to offer extra help. Make sure to go to EVERY class and do the readings bc he may be a nice guy, but he won't think twice about making fun of the ill-prepared.

Br. Durning is by far one of the best Religion professor at Iona. He is very devoted to his teaching, understanding and want the best for his students. He makes class fun to learn and he is very serious with his students always showing up to class. He is a fair grader. He will make fun of you if you're absent, but it's only because he truly cares.

Make sure to register for Durning's Moral Theology class. He tries to act strict but scratch the surface and you find that he is a loveable Christian Brother who cares deeply about the education of all his students. No other prof at Iona holds two optional review sessions before every test. I really love the guy.
