You gotta like BUDDY LEE~easy A
@#$% hard teacher...do not take him...its horrible!
Not a bad class as long as you put in some effort.
EASY A. You're just plain dumb if you don't do well in his class.
if it wasn't for the help lab, i never would've learned a thing.
Excellent teacher. He's friendly, dedicated, and sincere. One of the best.
He is much better than Casiple.
It's a hard subject, but he makes it fairly easy. Very helpful.
He makes stats so easy and chomprehensive-he's a very very sweet man and really wants his students to do well and learn the material. I definitely recommend him for stats.
pretty good teacher! he's little and funny, makes stats somewhat bearable. you learn a lot about hot dogs though, but that's really the only downfall. he's probably one of the best stat teachers.
A little corny at times, but really nice and he makes sense. His lectures aren't the most exciting in the world, but it's hard to do that with stats. You do learn a lot, and his tests are reasonable. The homework isn't a required, but it will help you.
Compared to the stats teachers my friends have i think lee is the best. he explains everything that he tests on, gives you the equations on the test and has in class review sessions before the test. he's really nice and makes stats easier
if you have to take stats, take him...bottom line! he's so funny and nice...just a laid back southern guy...i suck at math, but his class doesnt murder me.
Kinda not groomed. someone brush his hair...please!!! other than hes a nice guy and will really make you laugh
i took this class in high school and he gave a good refresher course. should get an a or a-. he's a really nice guy and i highly recommend him.

Buddy Lee is the man. Take good notes and do the homework, this man will take care of the details. Take him.
He is a very sweet, genuine man who wants you to do well in his class. He does make Stats bearable, and is the best professor you could get for the class...period. You'd be a fool to take anyone else.
Good class, very willing to go over problems and explian problems in different ways if you dont understand. Class is very bland but a very good teacher.
Wont lie here people, I didnt do a single problem in the book and got a C in the class. Smart guy but has problem with spelling. Good professor who wont let you down
Very nice guy. very BORING!!!! hard to stay awake. gives you last years tests to study, but the tests are not the same. many differnt types of problems. good class. probably best stat teacher
Very booooring class. He teaches it very well, though, and if you take good notes from class you don't really even need to read the book (though you still need it occasionally for a few things) because he teachers you how to do it the easy way instead of the book way.
Boring...found myself falling asleep a lot but very nice guy. Def. knows his stuff and will teach it to you in a clear manner. I suggest him if you need a stats class. He is very willing to help you and give 2nd and 3rd chances if you do not like an exam grade. He works with you on it.
ok, so the class is boring, but overall it was not difficult.
again, very boring class. i didn't feel that he was clear in his teaching and had a very hard time on his tests. go to the math help center when you start getting in trouble with grades
if you sign up on blackboard for his 4-credit class, this has gsci104 attached to it. i recommend this class because it focuses on using a computer to solve stats problems rather than pencil & paper math. if youre bad at conventional math like me, maybe itll be easier.
i don't know what everyone is talking about. i found his teaching style confusing, unclear, and evasive. i never go to class, buti get A's on the tests, because i teach myself at the math help center the day before tests. his directions on how to use the computer program are terrible!
im particularly not strong in math so i found it difficlut. BUT go to his office hours & he'll help u out. 3 tests & the final but if u get higher on the final than 1 of the test then the final counts twice got to use a 'cheat sheet' on the last test and final...take if you wanna put the effort in
Dreaded going to this class. Tests are made needlessly difficult, but then again I didn't care to learn the material.
Lee is an AWESOME teacher. I hate math and I suck at it, but I got an A in his class. Tests are kinda hard, just STUDY and you will be ok. Rounds grades up at end of semester. Very nice man; really wants you to understand the material. I've heard the other math220 teachers are HELL, so TAKE LEE!
VERY HARD CLASS. Too much information at once. He tries to explain it well but it's just too much info to digest, but that's not his fault.
I am absolutely horrendous in Math, but Lee is a good teacher. Seems to get impatient sometimes if you ask a question in class, but overall I reccommend. No attendance policy and a nice guy. Hasn't made one joke about his name, though. Not one....which is disapponting to me.
This class with the lab component is a joke it's so easy. If you have to take stats this is the guy to take. All tests done on computer, no attendance, doesn't collect homework. Will replace your quiz average and lowest test score if you do better on the final, can't be any easier than that. If you have a pulse you'll get a B in this class
Very easy class. Very nice guy. If you are more the practical type instead of the "memorize and complete all these equations" type, this is for you. As far as I've heard, the Lab related math work in this class makes this the easiest section of 220
Lee is a really nice guy, but slightly confusing in the way he teaches- and how it relates to his tests. With the gsci 104 mixed in; you would think it would be easier- but its actually much more confusing. The upside is that he's always willing to help you during office hours.
He's a nice guy and the class isn't that hard if you do the work. HOWEVER, I know many people who can't pay attention to him because he is SO BORING. You need the book, but you don't need to go to class and you might be better off teaching yourself sometimes to save time and the brutality of sitting thru his class, but all in all a good class
very nice guy...awkward...but nice. if you dont do too hot on his tests dont worry cuz ur final pretty much determines your grade anyway cuz he drops low test and quiz scores if you do better on the final. too bad i didnt do well on the final...
This class is incredibly difficult. the only way to possible do well is to go to every one of his office hours. he is only a good teacher during office hours. i think thats because he is afraid of the class. however no homeworks or attendance required so thats awesome.
Seriously, do not take him. He IS a nice guy, he IS an okay teacher- but his tests are impossible- and the informations with gsci mixed in is extremely hard. Don't expect a good grade in this class, and if it is required for your major- avoid his class.
I don't know why others call Dr. Lee confusing. He's crystal clear about his expectations and the presentation of the material. I never had any problem in his class. If you have to take statistics, Dr. Lee is the guy you want to take it with.
out of all the other stats teachers that i've heard about, you should take Dr.Lee! it gets you an extra 1 credit class- (gsci) and it's just stats added with a computer-- it makes stats a hell of a lot easier to do, since you just plug it in to the computer. if you don't understand, he'll help you at office hours. easy B/C
great teacher. explains everything extremely well almost to a point where its annoying. i never did homework and missed a ton of class and still pulled a B. open note quizes, and he lets you use cheat sheets on tests. tons of blackboard handouts that tell you EXACTLY what to do. i cant stress enough... TAKE HIS CLASS
TAKE THIS CLASS! Dr. Lee is so cool he lets you out really early all the time. Just keep up with the homework it piles up at the end but overall really easy if you stick with it and do a little studying. He teaches the 4 credit stats which is SO much easier thanks to SPSS and dr lee is great at explaining how to use it.
He is easy to understand and he explains the subject matter very well. You MUST do the HW!!! Otherwise you'll be screwed. Pop quizzes on lab days, so always study the day before you're in the computer lab. Practice using SPSS, and take good notes in class. He's a good guy, but kinda goofy. He's very willing to help if you go to office hours.
he is horrible!!! i'm good at math and i went into this class thinking it wouldnt be too hard. i looked at his ratings on this site an a lot of them say to take him. DO NOT TAKE HIM! i did the hw and went to class and i still failed. i went to his office hours and he told me that he can't help me, i just need to do better and try harder. beware.
Very nice professor. He writes EVERYTHING on the board, and gives a supplemental for every chapter. A 4 credit class, 1 credit in a comp lab using SPSS. Make sure you attend the labs, for he shows you how to approach every problem. Allows cheat sheets for tests, quizzes. Cancelled a class because the weather was nice. Pay attention, youll get an A.
Such a nice guy. Classes were pretty boring...and the material is tough. But he is really helpful and organized. I didn't do well on most tests and came out with a B, so if he can see you are making the effort to do well, he'll definitely help you out. He lets you bring in cheat sheets, which saved me.
Great professor! He explains things better than any math teacher ive ever had. make sure you practice the hw problems bc he often puts the exact same question or one extremely similar to it on the test/quiz. the material is still hard though. final is hard.
Honestly if math isn't your strongest suit take him! He gives you notes word for word, you don't even need your book.. I never did homework, just reviewed his lecture notes and examples and never got below a B. Lets you use cheat sheets on tests, never really holds a full class period TAKE HIM HES SO SWEET AND AWESOME!
Dr. Lee is heavy on the practical applications of stats, and the class reflects that. There's almost no formula memorization, tests are open note, and SPSS. As a psych major, I liked it. Take Dr. Lee if you like stats but don't have a great math background. If you're a math major, you'll probably find the class really dull or really easy (or both).
Dr. Lee is a nice man and ok professor. HW is not mandatory but you must do it in order to do well on tests and quizzes. You must teach yourself a lot of Stats. If you are not the best at MATH do not take. Test averages are usually in the 70s!
Professor Lee is a great Professor. Most of the people who struggle in this class are the ones who do not take the time to read the handouts and who do not do the hw. The tests are directly based off questions from the handouts. If you study the handouts and do the work, should be an easy A!
Easy class if you go and do the homework, neither which is mandatory. he is a great professor who explain things well and tells you what will be one test and quizzes. Easier than regular stats because you use spss and that does most of the hard math for you. from hearing about other stats teachers I would HIGHLY recommend. do the homework, get an A
TAKE HIM! I am terrible at math and he makes everything really easy to understand and he is the sweetest man ever. He is very helpful and genuinely cares about his students. Great professor.
such a good professor. Made everything really clear and easy to follow. Now an "easy A" but if you pay attention and do the homework you should do well.
Amazing and helpful notes on blackboard. He writes everything he says on the board in class. Heavy emphasis on SPSS (computer program) but notes have pictures and step by step examples. Never took stat before and paid attention in class but ended up with a good grade. Also a very nice man
Love this guy!! The SPSS makes the class even easier than regular stat b/c it does the math for you. 3 tests and a final, plus 4/5 quizzes to help boost your grade. His notes are excellent and explain how do everything perfectly. I never thought I'd get an A in stat, but I did and I actually learned a lot! Great class, highly recommended.
He will help you succeed in this class, even if you are just horrible at math. I'm going to get a B, and I attended all the classes, but that's good for me. I think it's possible to get an A, as long as you do all the homework and study for tests (which is basically your grade). He'll change your grade if you do better on the final then the class.
Hes a nice guy and lets you use cheat sheets but i really hated the way he would have class for about 30 minutes and then have nothing else to say and wed leave. one time we had class for less than ten minutes... basically you teach yourself online. I suck at stats and got a C. Kinda sucked but not that bad. Better than other stats
nicest man ever but so boring, difficult, and a lot of effort required
He goes through his lectures slowly, clearly, and repeats things often for clarity. He is boring yes, but he tells you what you need to know. You are also allowed a sheet of notes front and back for tests. 3 pages for the final. The class is 4 credits because it uses a computer program for all the math. Time commitment is no different than 3 credit
SUCH a nice guy, take him! I hate math and always do poorly and got an A with him. You can usually bring notes to exams to help you, he goes over everything slowly and in depth, always open for helpful office hours, and most everything is done through a computer program so if you struggle with "typical" written equations this is a great alternative
Take Lee at all costs. Exams are open note, he'll explain stuff as long as students need, very easy and you learn the material
He's a nice, cool guy. This was the first time he taught this class in a couple years and you can tell. He was disorganized throughout the semester. Also his class has three tests and that's your grade. If you bomb the tests your done. The test normally have 10 questions on it - which isn't great for your grade. Not an easy class.
Lee is a great guy. I went to maybe half of the classes and did very well. Open note (can bring a cheat sheet for tests) and some pop quizzes. You WILL learn a lot though. I think maybe 4 tests and he gives these amazing outlines to prep you. BEWARE, lecture is extremely boring though. prepare to teach yourself some stuff outside of class.
He is very nice and wants you to do well but is not clear and the tests are only a few questions and difficult
Dr. Lee is amazing. He is extremely organized with his handouts, and everything is written out for you in easy to follow steps. He teaches his class with real world examples, so sometimes you have to teach yourself how to simply do the problems. You will definitely learn a lot in his class. Flexible grader too!
For those who never took stats before, I would recommend Lee. He is extremely helpful and really wants everyone to do well. Attendance is not mandatory but definitely go to class or else you will be lost. If you want a good grade, do the examples and homework problems. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK.
It is really hard to pay attention, but all his notes are online and he allows 1 page front and back (sometimes 2) of notes for tests and quizzes. Drops a quiz grade and the final can replace your lowest test grade. Do the hw even though it's not graded. It's not an easy A, but it's not a hard A either. Do not buy the book.
He types up the book on a word document, posts the word document on canvas, then reads from the word document during class....I'm not really sure how he thinks that is a good way to teach math. Math is learned and understood through practice (problems). His lectures are pointless and you don't learn anything from this class.
He doesn't teach well (spends most of class saying WHY he's going to teach you something instead of actually teaching it.) Lost track of the semester and crammed two tests and the final into the last month and a half of classes. Awkwardly brings up politics in a statistics class, where politics does not belong. Not helpful or nice with questions
He wasn't a bad teacher but he is definitely a stat and not calc teacher. He pretty much just did examples of even problems in class and gave odd problems for homework. He was fine up until someone asked a question and then he got very confused and had no idea how to answer. Test weren't bad. Very easy to get at least an 80 but hard to get an A.
The only grades for the class are his 4 exams and the final which I thought were fair, he also allows a handwritten cheat sheet. He's very caring and understanding but sometimes not very clear in his explanations. There is HW but he doesn't collect it so it's basically at your discretion. If you can get over his monotone and awkwardness he's good!
The homework needs to be done for this class if you want ANY chance for a good grade. He gives quizzes as "practice tests" to see what we need to improve, and these quizzes don't count for very much. Let's each student know what they need to improve, which is really helpful. No textbook, only handouts he makes. Will go out of his way for his class
Definitely do not have to show up to class to do well, but he only drops your lowest test if you don't miss class more than 3 times. Everything you need to know is in the handouts he gives out - don't need the textbook. If you read through the handouts and do all of the HW problems (which aren't graded) you're guaranteed at least a B.
The class is structured in an easy way but as a teacher Lee isnt great. TOUGH grader and will mark up everything on your tests. I learned nothing from his lectures only from doing the homework with a math tutor. He does let you bring cheat sheets to the tests though and provides quizzes that basically mirror the tests but dont count as much.
ALERT: DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!! He is the worst professor I have ever had. Compared to every other professor at JMU he makes math 220 impossible. You have to teach yourself EVERYTHING and it is extremely hard to do that considering it is all confusing handouts. Only 3 quizzes and tests and he doesn't even count the quizzes at the end. SAVE YOURSELF!
IF YOU DO NOT LIKE MATH DO NOT TAKE DR. LEE. He is an incredibly tough grader and his tests and quizzes are way harder than the homework/in-class examples. He does not explain things well. Do not take him unless you've taken a statistics class before.
If you struggle with math this is not the professor for you. He gives you very confusing handouts with homework in them. Yes, he posts the answers to the homework online but doesn't explain how to get the answers. He tells you not to go to the math center and to go to him but when you ask a question he answers you as if you are dumb.
You learn through packets and its is very challenging. On top of that he is an insanely hard grader. He wants you to do well but your gonna need outside help if you take him. He teaches it different than the other 220 courses because he loves his computer program. Overall, you learn you just need to work super hard for it and seek outside help.
I loved Dr. Lee as a person, he's a sweet, old man. But I hated his lectures and his class, I struggled to stay awake every day. He just kinda talks for an hour and 15 mins and you just sit there. I could tell he wanted us to pass but his class just wasn't fit for me and it effected my grade. MUST BE GOOD WITH A COMPUTER TO PASS
This professor is the worst. DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. He is does not help when you go to his office hours nor help in class. All based on SPSS software.
Lee is cool, however you are graded on few things. He gives handouts instead of using the text book, but all work on quizzes/test/in class HAS to be done on SPSS (no handheld calculators). He is monotoned and can be hard to follow but is accessible outside of class. There is not dated syllabuses so quizzes/tests come out of no where...
He is a decent guy but I wouldn't recommend taking him if you aren't the best at math. He thinks everyone should know what they're doing at all times. I was doing poorly in the class and went to his office hours and he didn't give me the time of day. The only way I would say to take him is if you are proficient at math.
Professor Lee is a very nice professor and extremely smart, but I feel that sometimes he has trouble relaying information to his students. The class is extremely test heavy (Worth 90% of your grade) and if you fail to show up, you are certain to not do well. At times he would also go on political rants so that became a little frustrating.
You are graded by 4 quizzes and 4 tests and all homework is optional. He makes it very clear on the first day that if you dont do homework, you will not pass and its the truth. Class is very SPSS heavy but he lets you use a cheat sheet on all quizzes and tests so if you take advantage of that this class will be an easy A
He is the worst, if you learn by examples in a math class DO NOT take his class. He teaches based off a computer program, SPSS, and he has been told by other professors not to do it. He also just reads off of a lecture handout and doesn't do examples in class. You only get 5 grades in the class, so you better do well on tests and quizzes.
Professor Lee knows the subject matter but presents it in a way that is so difficult to understand. He is HORRIBLE and so unhelpful during office hours but also recommends not going to the math center. His whole class is based off an online program (SPSS) and there are only 5 grades for the whole class. Good luck...
Dr. Lee is one of the nicest, most caring professors I've had at JMU. It was his first time teaching this course, so it was a tiny bit disorganized but Dr. Lee was always accessible. The homework in the course is not for a grade, but if you want to succeed you should do it.
WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! Specifically, if math is not your subject. I'm warning you, my whole class is struggling and there's even a facebook group that talks about how bad this professor is. SPSS sucks and I am way too lost in this class.
Dr Lee is a very nice man, but bases his class off of SPSS which is SO difficult to understand! Please do not take this class if you arent good at math. This is the first class that Ive ever failed before in my life.
Dr. Lees class is not for everyones learning style but overall I think if you pay attention, do the homework, and review for assessments youll be fine. The class relies on SPSS and you NEED to do the homework to learn how the software works. Very few grades but you can use one paper of notes on the tests and he drops your lowest quiz score
Honestly awful. He is possible the worst teacher I have ever had. He manages to make everyone fall asleep. Had him for MATH229, and it is the hardest class I've ever had, not only because he cannot teach for the life of him but because his notes are the most cluttered, godawful POS I've used. 15-20 hours of studying per test netter me 70s.
The worst professor I have ever had at JMU. If you are not good at math DO NOT take his class. He is so rude and acts like you re dumb if you don't understand something. Tests are so hard and all on SPSS which he doesn't explain how to use at all. He only gives 5 grades .... DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Really nice and wants you to do well, but if you're not good at math try someone else. Goes straight off handouts he's made. DO THE HOMEWORK or you'll do terrible. Lets you bring a sheet of notes for each quiz/test and 4 for the final, don't stress about quizzes because they're dropped at the end. Put in the work and you'll get the grade you want.
The quizzes and tests for each unit were similar and one time he let students skip the test if they got above an 80 on the quiz. You can bring notes for exams and for the final but the final was WAY harder than any test/quiz we had. I got As all semester but a C on the final. The class was easy if u can teach yourself just don't expect him to help
He was a really nice professor, definitely willing to help you if you have the time to individually ask him questions. He posts his own study guides instead of using a textbook, and allows cheat sheets for every test.
Professor Lee is extremely approachable outside of class for extra help when needed. He creates handouts covering the material, so a textbook isn't necessary. Homework is optional but you won't do well on the exams without doing it. Cheat-sheets are allowed on every test, but you still need to know how to apply the material.
I was a math major when I took this class and ended up having to take the class twice. His lectures are super boring and actually really difficult to listen to. When I went to office hours, he was pretty rude and basically told me it was my fault for not understanding simple concepts. If you can avoid this class, AVOID IT. Worst class I have taken
Most boring class I've taken. I put a lot of effort into the class and still ended up getting a C/C- on almost every test. He is a hard grader in the sense he takes a lot of points off for smaller details. He does not use a textbook and writes all of his handouts which are difficult to understand. He seems like a nice person, but DO NOT TAKE!
Honestly, this is the worst class I've taken at JMU. If you have taken a stat class before and have a solid understanding of it, you will probably do ok. He makes his own handouts which are complicated and kinda hard to understand. His tests are hard and he takes off a lot of points for small mistakes. Very boring lectures.
