doesnt answer questions when asked. doesnt review. notes are irrelevent tests are ridiculous! Dont take him unless majoring in biology.
only 4 exams and a final , a few lab quizzes.. exams are KILLER and the average for classes are ALWAYS low.
At first I thought he was awful...but ast time went by I realized he is a hard teacher, but definetly worth taking.
i was looking forward to bio before i got into this class. his lectures are alright sometimes.. just long and drawn out. he doesnt know the exams are EXTREMELY hard and they dont curve them. they dont review or give study guides. at least his lectures were better to listen to than dr cross's.
He was teaching with Cross and they're easy going. but it was a very hard class. he's a good teacher and is always available for help. but bio is not easy
Great teacher. Had him and Cross for Bio I. Great teachers if your interest is Bio or science. For the rest of you, find an easier class. Always available to help, exams were tough but this is college folks, grow up. Not a whole lot of room for error in this class but they kept it interesting and I would recommend them to anyone in a science major
this teacher was okay he's a pretty funny guy but the class was rediculous. the only grades you got were tests and they were impossible to pass unless you study evry single day for over 4 hours. and the lectures.... long
cool guy. tests are hard. don't take it unless you're willing to study and get help. SI helps a lot. doesn't take attendance but you have notes every day. study the notes and the book for sure.
VERY DIFFICULT! I study about 20 hours a week and still have a C. I think Erdman is very intelligent I just believe the exams are really difficult. My class started with 81 students and right now we have 41 :( Be prepared to study like crazy!
Hardest class! Do NOT take! The professor is nice and all, but there are only 5 tests and if you don't study 8 hours a day then you don't have a chance for a passing grade. He doesn't realize how hard the tests are and since they are almost the only grade in the class, if you don't do well you don't have a chance to pass. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!
Very nice professor but very difficult. Tests are hard! If you pass this course, you'll know practically everything you'll ever need to know in this course.
Hard Class! But You learn A LOT! Test are hard! You MUST read the Chapters prior to taking the test to understand the lecture notes. First test EVERYONE fails but grades get better.
Took with Cross, terrible idea to have two teachers teaching a Bio class!! ended up getting a D , I never knew what exactly what to study and HATED the subject. Retook with another teacher, currently have an A. Avoid this prof. if teaching with another teacher!!
Yeah, it's a hard class. But you're also a science major if you're taking this class. So obviously, expect a lot. It's not that you need to study hours upon hours, but you really need SI for this class. Five exams make up 90% of the grade -- so you can't take two weeks off in the middle of the semester.
Hard class but you learn A TON!!!! He has a great personality. Even though he lectures a lot he makes it fun. Very useful and is available when you need him. Hard tests and lots of reading but totally worth it. I would recommend this professor if you want to get a great understanding of biology.
Hard class but you learn A TON!!!! Erdman is very funny and even though he lectures a lot he makes it fun and entertaining. He's available for help at any time and is very helpful. I would totally recommend him!
Great professor! Very helpful! I learned a ton in this class! He is willing to help you if you ask for it. It is hard but if you study you will be fine!
A great teacher! The class is hard but he is always available to help you, and if you study it is easy to get an a or b
great prof. a little scary at first but he's really nice and easy to follow in lecture. Very helpful if you don't understand something. uses great analogies. bio is gunna be hard no matter who teaches it so just plan on studying hard and you'll do great.
Erdamn is a good teacher, makes the lectures interesting. Notes do not help and most of the time are irrelevant to the test, used the book if you want to pass. Class is just arduous in general, 4 exams and 1 final - bomb 1 and you are done.
Doesn't test you on stuff not on his powerpoint. but you have to study! Don't even bother buying the book, he doesn't use it at all. Online quizes are easy, tests are hard. hard to get a good grade but you learn alot. interesting lectures. highly reccomend.
If your not ready to study I would not recommend this professor. I studied basically every day. It is an extremely hard class but he is a very helpful professor. He was always there for my help whenever I needed him.
Erdman is very knowledgeable in his field, and always willing to try to answer your questions. Your grade is based on online quizzes at the end of almost every week, four exams, and a comprehensive final. If you take this professor it is in your best interest to attend class and take good notes. Exams and quizzes are straight from his powerpoints.
His tests are challenging, but his course is worth it. His powerpoints are always interesting, and his tests come mostly from what he goes over in class. Just study the notes each night, and you'll do fine. Completely recommend.
Erdman is a really cool guy, lectures are interesting. he doesn't use the book at all everything from the test comes directly from his powerpoints. but he expects you to KNOW everything that he covers in the powerpoints so you have to take good notes and study them. very good teacher i learned alot. highly reccomended. *not an easy class*
Professor Erdman is a good professor but go to class, and study your notes (his powerpoints) they aren't word for word on the test but if you understand the concepts you'll do just fine. He'll help you outside of class also.
Erdman and Saverese team taught the course (invert zoology) and I found both them of them very good instructors, they relayed the material very well and were always eager to help if necessary, They were both very enthusiastic about the subject and this made the course a very fun one!
Co-taught Invert Zoo with Savarese and it was an awesome class. Bring your laptop to class, take notes on the ppts and add figures to your notes and study like crazy the few days before the exam. Go on the field trips and participate - you get a lot more out of the class. Would definitely recommend the class!
very funny guy and he wants you to do well. he loves what he teaches, especially when you get to inverts and verts. online quizzes every week are extremely easy. just make sure you study your notes every night for the tests and you'll do fine
He is a really great teacher. Great personality and he really loves what he does. Lots of cooking references. Take him if you see his classes available!
Prof. Erdman's attitude is rather pompous, but his lectures are interesting. The tests are pretty difficult and focus more on the wording rather than the knowledge taught. Take another Professor if possible.
His classes are difficult, but he's a great teacher. He makes jokes the whole time. He explains everything and plays good videos that relate to the lecture. You need to study for his tests. It's not an easy A class. He won't dumb it down for anyone. Great teacher if you want to learn a lot about Biology and have a funny teacher.
I had him for Bio II and was nervous going into it but he is a really great professor. He makes the class fun and I loved his videos. Unlike most classes, I actually retained my knowledge. Tests are hard, but then again its Biology. If you study, then you'll do fine. Loved this class! Take him if you can!
Interesting Professor and an easy Class. He makes sure you understand the course with analogies, funny videos, and a humorous lecture. Quizzes are taken every week that are from the lecture notes, and if you write down the questions and answers, study them plus all the lecture notes, you are guaranteed an A in the class. I'd take his class again
Awesome Awesome AWESOME! Great teacher. i would take his class again in a heart beat! at first i thought i wouldn't like this guys teaching methods, but wow! i have never been so high in a science class.
Sucks. Dont take this professor even if you have to. He's got an annoying attitude and is quite a jerk. He makes his tests very tricky.
Just took him for Biology II. Not a bad teacher, he cracks a few jokes, he answers every question in lecture with depth, and has quality notes. The tests are tricky though, so be ready to study his notes through and through. You really have to know what belongs and what doesn't.
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! just had him for bio2. he says attendance isnt mandatory but go to class. if he knows u participate in class he'll help you out when it comes to ur final grade. tests are kinda tricky but questions come straight from the notes. dont need the book that much except for some diagrams. got a B. take him! hes funny!!!!!!
His tests are mainly composed of his weekly quizes, look over them before his tests and you'll pass. do it now, thank me later!
He is a tough professor. Some students love him because they think he's a great guy and others hate him because they think he's a terrible professor. You will have to work your butt off to get an A, much less a B in his class.
Great teacher, really makes you think on his tests. Study the notes, attend class and visit during office hours are the keys to success in his class! Very knowledgeable with a pinch of sarcasm.
One of the best professor's I've ever had. FGCU doesn't have top quality, but he surpasses any other teacher. He is super helpful, truly cares about his students. Attend office hours, and try, I promise you he'll become one of your favorites too. I STILL KEEP IN TOUCH WITH HIM, since freshman year and I'm a junior now. TAKE HIM.
Awesome professor! Really helpful and truly cares about his students. His classes are not mandatory but you should not miss any classes. Exam questions come straight from the lecture notes and he makes class interesting with sarcasm and jokes. Take his class for Bio 2!
I would and have recommended. Everything is fair and straight forward. This is one of those subjects you have to be interested in, if you are its almost easy.
Would recommend. Tests are easy if you study the right material. The only bad thing is that he does not give a study guide for test.
Professor Erdman is a fantastic professor! As long as you are good at biology and like the subject, you'll be fine. Just makes sure to read the book and go to class.
Prof. Erdman's class was not easy.. His exams are very tricky and no reviews are given. Online Quizzes are really easy and some questions are on the tests, as well! Go to classss, and study A LOT!!! He's great in explaining and has a funny kinda sarcastic personality!
Choose the other Biology professor!!! Erdman is way harder. I got a B on his class and with the other professor for sure I would get an A! His tests are insane. Very cocky too, he thinks he is king of the world1
YOU MUST take notes, he is a very difficult proff. to have.
Bio II is actually a very interesting subject for me, the professor knows what he's talking about thankfully but I swear his online quizzes and exams are aimed at tricking you. I understand you need to know the material to master it but really the trickery is ridiculous. I think I would have faired better with another professor.
He is very sarcastic and can say rude or mean comments. He stressed office hours, but once you go in he is very sarcastic with everything he says. His exams are BRUTAL. I know all the material, got an A in the lab but a D in his class. Explain that? I am retaking the class next semester with Dr. Allman he is way better!
Very good speaker, but does not post his power point slides. He says to just pay attention to the big picture, but his tests are written so that you need to know every detail of everything he taught.
Dr. Erdman is an absolutely incredible professor, full of knowledge and passion for biology. He is very helpful during office hours and I can't stress this enough; you should use his office hours to go over the quizzes. If you want to be challenged and if you're passinate for biology, take HIM! There aren't two like Dr. Erdman.
took him for bio II overall good teacher can be very cynical at times but also hilarious, careful with his questions you need to answer the question you think he Is asking you. THOSE QUESTIONS WILL TROLL YOU.
Professor Erdman is by far the greatest professor I've ever had. He is very hard with his tests and can be extremely tricky, but he forces you to learn the material. I remember everything we have gone through as a class because he drills it into your brain; I even got an A on the final because of it. Definitely need to study, no slackers belong.
When people talk about good professors in college, it's probably this guy they are referring to. Has fun with the class, but makes sure you learn exactly what you need to for his tests. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he tests on his lectures, so just come to class. Be sure to not go hungry, he loves talking about food
Great teacher, but it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you listen and pay attention in his class. His quizzes and tests are difficult but if you study you should be fine. His office hours are helpful and he is a nice guy.He is also very funny and sarcastic, so sensative people beware.
I took bio 2 the first time with professor Alman. I barely studied and got a D. I took the class again with Erdman, studied my butt off and got a high C. I definitely learned more from Erdman and he is a really great professor. You will have to work for your grade. Office hours and going to SI WILL benefit you. I worked my butt off for my C.
This was a hard class. I studied my butt off and went to SI and ended up with a low A. He makes the class fun but he expects you to really learn the material. If you're going to take this class, go to EVERY lecture and fill in the powerpoints. His tests were hard, but the final was easier. Review your old exams in office hours before the final!
He's a decent teacher. Not amazing not horrible. All the power points were given online and you had to fill them in during lecture. I personally didn't like his way of teaching. I received my first B during his class. Test were harder then expected, he makes you think and interpret so don't just study his study guides. Final test was SO easy.
Trivia pursuit questions on tests are not uncommon. That is... your notes need to be written in "narrative form" , his questions and provided choices on tests rarely reflect the course provided lecture outline. Idealize many ways to question one talking point when studying.
Erdman is a funny man. He's great for BIO2. Tests are pretty straight forward. He takes his questions from the textbook answer banks. Show up to class and pay attention and you should be good.
Funny and entertaining lectures. He makes an hour and 15 lecture less painful than the average. His tests are tough and you do need to study hard. He does present the information in ways that can help you remember things easily though. Not easy subject material so you will work for your grade!
Dr. Erdman's class is tough, especially if you're taking his class as an elective for a pre med degree and have no interest in inverts. He is not clear on what should be studied. His suggestion, "Study everything" Atleast 3-4+ chapters per exam and be prepared to memorize A LOT. His practicals are all phylum and class, not naming body parts.
Dr. Erdman is my favorite professor at FGCU. I had him for Bio 2, Invert Zoology and Comparative Animal Physiology. He is hilarious but sarcastic. His exams are exactly off of the notes. Really study those and you'll be ok. This class also has a lot of labs that help you understand the material he is covering. I highly recommend Dr. Erdman.
As long as you show up to class, fill out the power points, and do they study guides before the exam you will be fine.
Fantastic professor who truly makes a difference in the lives of those who seek to continue in the field.
He's a pretty average professor. He knows his stuff, but he just presents it in a way that makes it difficult to remember. I still haven't figured out how to study for this class. His test questions are pretty specific on the details in the unit. Online quizzes aren't that difficult and some of the questions are on the tests.
He makes his own PowerPoints so you do not have 80 something slide long lectures. He picks out the most important concepts. He tries to be funny a lot of the time to keep students interested throughout the class, he does keep you there the whole time most days. The tests are pretty tough, you need to be able to apply info, he gives study guides
Professor Erdman provided power points in his lectures that heavily corresponded to the tests. It is important though not to just memorize the information, but to understand how to apply it in test questions. His tests were challenging but if you really study hard, you will get the grade that you want. Review tests in office hours for final!!!!
Sarcastic personality, can be funny. Hard to get used to him at first but he cares about his students and wants to see you succeed. He keeps his lectures entertaining. Tests are VERY hard-be prepared to study A LOT. He is willing to help in any way. He DOESN'T like tardiness.
Erdman is a wonderful professor. However, what makes his class so difficult is the quantity of information you have to learn and his tests. His tests are 85% of the grade, so if you fail one, you're toast. No homework. Weekly quiz. Start studying for the tests a week in advance and you'll pass.
A teacher who is stuck in the past when it comes to teaching. Only provides poorly organized power points that do nothing to enhance learning. Treats students as an annoyance instead of the reason he is working. Talks about cooking way too much. In two years, this is the first time that I received a grade below a B on any assignment.
Don't take comparative Animal Physiology with this professor. The lectures are fill in the blank and very boring. The professor is all over the place during lecture and gets off point. Not good.
He's cool but you have to show up to class for the notes and attendance grade.
Professor Erdman is the one of the worst professors I've ever had. He just reads off of his PowerPoints and rambles about cooking and beer. He is super sarcastic and rude. His exams are usually about 60 questions and they're very hard. Exams make up most of your grade, but they're almost impossible to pass. His study guides don't help.
I like Dr. Erdman. He's funny and an overall average professor. His powerpoints are exactly what's on the tests and he give's out study guides which cover the concepts. Tests can be hard and you need to work for it but as long as you study for his tests in advance you'll be fine. For my semester he gave extra credit for doing study assignments.
Dr. Erdman was a great professor in my opinion! He was engaging, and cares if you care. Exams are based off his Power Points, and he provided us with study guides for our exams, including the final. If you study & put time time, you can definitely ace the class. It's college, people! You gotta study if you want a good grade. Simple as that!
Dr. Erdman is a great professor for bio 2. If you show that you care (attending class, talking to him during office hours) he is totally there to help. His has powerpoints that are an overview of the unit but you need to read the textbook. He also gives extra credit from doing quizzes on MasteringBio which he uses questions from for the exam.
Dr. Erdman is a good teacher he has powerpoints that outline the chapters for Bio 2 and if you get the mastering biology he gives you extra credit which is SUPER helpful because his tests are very difficult. Definitely read the book and definitely expect a decent workload from this course but overall I thought it was fun.
Dr. Erdman is a very tough professor. His powerpoints are fill in the blank which are nice as long as you go to every class. He will not post any answers. I did not go to his office hours because he would make me feel stupid. His tests are worth a large percentage of the grade so there is no wiggle room. This class is possible, but you have to work
Very FUNNY!! I love attending his lectures and he actually makes them entertaining. If you listen to his lectures and read the power points you will pass. Mastering biology is not required but he gives extra credit if you do those assignments. one of the best lecture teachers in my opinion. The class is just extremely difficult.
He does weekend quizzes (15%), unit exams(85%), each exam is 17%. Completing mastering biology is extra credit points on exams. He is really fun and chill guy. Powerpoints are fill in the blank so better to go to class. Textbook helps out a lot. Powerpoint Notes help out ALOT very similar to test. USE THE STUDY GUIDES in canvas.
Excellent teacher. Engages with students during lecture with fill in the blank power points. He gives great feedback and answer any questions you have. Always available during office hours. Fair grader in assignment and exams. i would take another class with him. I definitely recommend.
He cool as a person and he kinda funny to talk to, but His test are extremely hard and they are worth 85% of your grade. he talks a lot about drinking wine and recipe's during his lectures. His class is fun though. He play funny biology videos every once in a while.
His powerpoints are hard to follow sometimes and the test are worse. The exams are very wordy and confusing.
If you are a bad test taker like me really think about take this class. His test are worded in a difficult way that is really unclear. He is not a bad professor. He gets distracted by talking about wine and his love for food a lot.
The one positive is that you can earn half a letter grade of extra credit per exam by doing mastering biology. What I hate is that Erdman a jaded man who would rather go out of his way to make you feel like trash for not knowing something and hiding behind the excuse "My bark is worse than my bite." It's counterintuitive to learning and inexcusable
Studying hard for the tests was essential since they counted for 85% of the grade. The other 15% was weekly quizzes. The tests were based on the powerpoints. The lectures seemed a little long and boring at times but they weren't bad. For my class, if you had at least 93% after the last exam you didn't have to take the final.
He is the meanest professor I've ever had. Due to covid, the class is online. Lecture is a power point & during class time he holds a canvas conference for any QUESTIONS you may have. If you ask a question, you get bullied. He's told someone to drop out because they don't know how to read and is just so grumpy. Very glad I had this class online
He tries to trick you on the multiple choice. He's not very understanding, nice, or reasonable. He acted like the class was stupid. I might have caught him on a bad day, but one time I went in DURING OFFICE HOURS and he got mad because I was disturbing him when his door was wide open and all I did was lightly knock on the door frame?? Dont take him
Took this class online and didn't really show up to the "lectures" but still got an A. He is a bit mean when you ask him a question though.
