Do not take unless you plan on wasting your time and learning nothing.
He just moved from Idaho and he isn't familar with much yet. Sometime it seems as if he doesn't know what he's talking about, but he's a really nice guy. My friends & I loved him. The tests were hard, but majority of the labs were pointless. We wasted $30+ on plants we only needed for a day. The garden plots were fun, though.
Great professor-very helpful, funny. Has done some awesome landscapes, very passionate about plants! I heard that in intro to Hort although he reviews before a test his questions are obscure
hes is the most coooooooolest guy ever!!!!!
TAKE THIS TEACHER! only two tests. final and mid term. VERY EASY. 70's looking hippie. best teacher ever. the labs are super easy and fun too.
EASIEST TEACHER!! take him. only 2 tests. labs are fun and easy. he's very funny. one of my favorite teachers ever!!
He is one of the best teachers at Saddleback! No homework, no reading, only a midterm and final that are easy. The lab is so fun! He gives u everything in class all u need to do is take notes and it's the easiest A+ ever! He is so nice and funny! I loved coming to class! I was actually sad when the semester was over.
Best teacher I have ever had. Very kind and very passionate about what he teaches. If you do or do not plan on majoring in horticulture you will learn a lot from this professor regardless. He makes the learning environment mellow, laid back and super informative. A great mentor to have if you plan on majoring in the hort sciences.
Cool professor. Very laid-back and funny. You have 2 exams only. The midterm was hard even though I studied but the final was decent. Offers extra credit for papers. You get to work outside on a garden plot every class or in the lab. Doesn't hold you till the bitter end of the 5 hr class like some teachers... I'd take him again.
Good class. A very good class. But, the lectures can be very boring if you are not majoring in Horticulture. It is a bit interesting just gets repetative after a while. Good thing is that the labs are very informative and FUNNN!!! The tests (only 2) were a bit tough. You have to study and take good notes. But, the final was easier than the midterm.
Professor Farnsworth is a knowledgeable and funny instructor. He gives very thorough lectures and if you are a good note taker, you will benefit from it on your midterm and final exam. You are guaranteed an "A" if your attend every class and every lab, study your lecture notes and definitely show up at the review nights before the tests.
I appreciated Professor Farnsworth informative and knowledgeable teaching, and patience when further explanation was asked. His classes were interesting and fun.
This teacher is clear about NOTHING!!! (i.e. assignments, tests, lectures etc. He needs to get his facts straight and stick to the syllabes. He changes almost everything at the last minute. If you want to be completely frustrated the whole semester, take him.
Extremely helpful and encouraging. I took every class he offered, and would take any he taught.
Make sure you do well on the midterm, it is actually quite hard. The bulk of the class grade consist mainly of the midterm/final. The lab work is more like free labor for the school, over all funny and nice guy. Would recommend. DO WELL THE THE MIDTERM.
He is a great teacher, friendly person, he makes you want to do your best.
Prof. Farnsworth is an easy going teacher who obviously loves horticulture. He was very helpful and his labs were awesome. I wish I had more time to take his other classes. He's great! Grade consists of midterm, final and participation. Extra credit opportunities are available as well. Study and you'll get an A :)
Farnsworth is one of the best teachers ive ever had! He gives great detailed lectures and makes it really easy to take notes. He is passionate about HORT.The lab was fun make sure the peps u group with 4 the plots r sharing. He gives points for good note takers SO DO IT!Tests rnt easy if you dont take nots. Offers xtra credit.
Well if you like remedial learning and lectures out of a book, plus labs that so basic that an earthworm may earn the highest grade, then this class is for you. You may want to try something else if you want to really learn.
Native Plants is a great topic, but the instructor as terrible. Excluding the interesting places we visited and fellow students, the information was at best superficial and very shallow. DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR!!!!
GREAT TEACHER. he knows so much about plants and water conservation, and he is incredibly funny. i thoroughly reccomend horticulture with farnsworth. hands down one of my favorite teachers ever!
I love Mr.Farnsworth! Best class ever i wish i could take horticulture again. Labs are mandatory and tests are kinda hard but he is AWESOME!
I love Mr. Farnsworth! He is such a nice teacher and really tries to help everyone succeed. His lab is the best, it really makes you interested in horticulture. I want to take it again! The midterm is hard but study and you'll do fine. He also gives extra credit and he's funny too. take it!
great class! was fun and interting. Didnt know much about plants and such before taking this class, learned lots about convervation and native CA plants. lab was fun, really got your hands dirty. dont forget to study- need to pay attention take notes. highly recomend.
Loved this class. Don't need book if you take good notes. Fun lab growing vegetables, etc. and learning how to make cuttings. Great tips for gardeners. Lots of EC to help students. Need to really study for the two tests. Lots of memorized plant info. Still eating produce from my plot. My son has him now and loves the class too.
Great all around teacher who's passion for what he does is apparent. He inspired me and encouraged me to pursue a career in horticulture. A great man.
After finishing several horticulture classes at OCC and CalPoly, I found this class very elementary. Also the students were very immature and lazy (The textbook should be called Hort for Dummies). Would not recommend this class to those who which to learn details and principles of horticulture.
Really enjoyed this class. Professor Farnsworth is cool? True. Need to be present for lectures which can be monotone. He can be funny but also absentminded. Overall great class.
Did not enjoy all the weeding in the garden and the number of students assigned to each plot. Lectures were disorganized and the tests were very hard.
The hardest thing about this class is waking up for it if you take the morning class. The first half is lecture, and the second half is spent in the greenhouse, so you don't get an overload. He is very helpful and his puns are endless. I would definitely take his class again.
awesome class, very itersesting.
I really enjoyed this class, although his test were somewhat hard. Just remember to be on time because you will take a lot of notes. Professor Farnsworth is very helpful and will help you pass his class. He has a weird sense of humor, but overall he is a really good professor. I recommend taking any of his classes.
He is a cool guy, tests aren't too easy. Be present for the labs, lecture is dry but informative. Field trips are common. Take the class it's worth it
Instructor is a nice guy. Found the lectures boring and the labs short and simple. Would not recommend this class.
This is not a science class; I'm not sure what the instructor was doing or teaching most of the time. Tests were hard!!
A great teacher. One of the best. He is kind hearted with a great sense of humor. He is passionate about his work, has a great appeciation for nature, environment, and plants the seed of love for horticulture in his student's hearts.I strongly recommend him. we learned a lot both in the class and Lab.
Farnsworth is a rad guy and if you want an easier science class this is it. I was skeptical at first taking a "gardening class" but it was fun in the end and he is corny and cool and makes it enjoyable and usually dont stay the full lab period which is nice but he is very helpful and kind. points are lab and midterm and final. Tests are reasonable
Professor Farnsworth is an awesome teacher. He is passionate about Horticulture and particularly California Natives. His enthusiasm for plants and nature is contagious. You'll learn a lot of useful information and have fun too. If you come to class daily, take GREAT notes and participate in discussions, you'll do fine. Tests aren't easy.so study.
Farnsworth rules! I loved this class and totally miss it. Super laid back and if you take notes, write down the stuff on the board and study you'll get an A! California Native Plants rule!
I regretted taking this class the very first day! dont take unless you want to stand outside in the garden for a few hours once a week. this class sucked but farnsworth was actually really cool. show up to lab, take notes in class, and study for the two tests (midterm and final). careful! easy to pass and just as easy to fail! STUDY!
Yes he is a nice teacher and all,but his tests are hard. Most of his tests are based on lectors and it's hard to pass the class even though you did the extra credit.
Farnsworth is really a chill teacher and knows what he is talking about, and if he doesn't know an answer or something, he's real with you about it. coolest teacher I've had so far
Professor Farnsworth knows what hes teaching. He is very clear in his teaching methods. He gets to the point and helps his students succeed. Take his classes you will love them.
Farnsworth is the coolest guy! He's super chill and loves what he does. I took his lab class and if was really cool being able to have a plot to grow your own plants! Easy class, great teacher, great guy.
Mr. Farmsworth was not as informative and helpful as other students write online. Was too general in lectures and lab.
Farnsworth is one of the coolest teachers at saddleback. If you want to have fun take his class. Very helpful and cares a lot about his students. I highly recommend
Easily one of the best teacher I've ever had. I recommend this class to anyone.
loved the class - Professor Farnsworth is a great instructor and loves what he teaches. I would take him again. I got an A on the class. You do have to attend class and study tests are not easy. Highly recommend his class.
I love Farnsworth!! He is amazing, and beyond passionate about what he does!! He mad me fall in love with horticulture! In this class you get down and dirty, but it is very rewarding being able to grow something beautiful. He is fun and laid-back his lectures some times can get boring but his lab is amazing!
Not offered very often, so take it if you can. Attendance important. Class is series of field trips to awesome native plant gardens & preserves. Grade based on attendance & large final project and presentation. Prof is a natural born teacher who makes learning easy.
I thoroughly enjoyed Robert's ability to spread his love and passion for horticulture to his students as well. I felt truly inspired to continue with my major based on his insight and wisdom. He has great knowledge on the subject matter and many accomplishments, I am lucky to have had him as a teacher. If you'd like an A, take him.
He's honestly a super cool teacher, I took his summer course and his class was really fun.
R. Farnsworth is the bees knees. He really cares about what he teaches about and his lectures are clear. He doesn't get upset if you're late, and it's optional to get the text book he suggests getting; definitely can pass the class without it. The lab part isn't bad at all if you don't mind getting dirty and he lets you take plants home!
If you are not a big fan of science classes but you need to take one to fulfill your GE requirement, this is the best choice! You learn about plants and gardening, you have a lot of fun in the lab & you can apply what you learn in your daily life. Professor Farnsworth is a great person, but tests are not easy, just two tests, you should study hard
This man was hilarious. He really cares about his students and seems to enjoy being teacher. Take good notes and the test will be easy. This class has been one of my favorites by far.
He is a great Professor! But do not think you are going come in to the class and just get a good grade. He gives two test a mid-term and a final both are pretty hard. But if you study you should be fine.
Exams are hard but he gives the class a study guide and plenty of time to study and ask questions. Almost everything on the study guide is on the tests (which are not easy) so study. He is an easy-going teacher. He notices when students are rude so be respectful. I learned a lot more in this class than I was expecting. Lab was fun but hard work.
Farnsworth is a great guy. I took his class in the summer and he made that 7:30am class fun. You have to actively keep up with him in class, otherwise you will have to use the book. I slept during the movies most the time and he didnt seem to care.
He is the nicest, funniest guy ever! So nice to all of his students and always cares about students' inputs. I absolutely loved HORT20 and learned a lot. Wish I could have a teacher like him for all my other classes.
Grades are based on Lab attendance, midterm, final, and a project. Even though the subject can be boring at times, he's enough of a character to liven it up. It's clear that he cares about the subject, and wants to see his students succeed. Test questions come from lecture, so show up and take good notes or you won't pass. Lab can be hard work.
Farnsworth is the best professor I've ever had. He truly cares about horticulture and wants his students to love it too. I would highly recommend this to anyone. I have a new found respect for plants after taking this class.
Professor Farnsworth is a really great guy. I loved this class. Only takes roll during lab but i highly recommend attending his lectures. He is super funny and easy going. He wants you to do well! Only gives two tests (midterm and final) and requires no homework. Offers opportunities for extra credit and if your garden does well then so will you.
Robert is really a great guy. He is calm and really is nice. He isnt strict at all and he really tries to make the class enjoyable. The lab is very casual and he usually doesnt keep you the full 3 hours. If you come to class and write what he writes on the board the test is a piece of cake.
Easiest lab class you could take! Just a midterm and final, only easy if you attend class and take notes. The book was not needed at all to pass the class. Lectures can be very boring, but Farnsworth tries to make it fun!
Professor farnsworth is an amazing professor he cares about the environment is class is easy and lab
Farnsy is one of the coolest people I've ever met! His passion for horticulture is contagious and his teaching is easy to understand. I have taken his Intro to Horticulture class and am taking him again for Intro to Landscape Design and they're not too difficult. Just show up and take good notes. Study for midterm and final but don't buy the book.
Farnsworth is my favorite professor. He is the man. He loves his job and loves horticulture. The only bad thing is that the tests are hard. If you know the study guide you'll get an A, don't even need to show up to class.
He knows what his class is and exactly how serious he needs to be about it, just a good guy.
Just a nice guy really loves horticulture. He never yell but always calm.
One of the best class Ive ever taken in my career.
He's a really chill professor. He's not a sarcastic professor either, and he'll answer as many questions as you need without getting sarcastic or mad of you not knowing the material. In his labs, all you need to do is to try. his lectures are nice and easy (though i would do with i couple less slide shows). He is caring about his classes.
Incredible professor. He is kind, genuine, and passionate about horticulture. His tests are more challenging than youd expect, so make sure you study and attend each lecture so you have good notes. He wants you to pass as much as you do and finds ways to work it out. Labs are pretty easy as long as you help and participate. Favorite professor!!!
Really funny, does what he can to make sure you pass/have a good grade. Keeps the class interesting (since its just plants) he specifies what is on the tests directly which is nice. overall recommend you choose him
Currently take his class and I have to say who wrote the he tells what's directly going to be on the test? He gives a study guide, but the questions are not completely how they are on the test. You are best going through every chapter he lectured on than to focus only on the study guide. His textbook chapter are short, but not super easy to follow.
Prof. Farnsworth is the best! I loved taking his class so much. Taking this class literally changed my perspective on how I view the world! Hes such a nice and genuine teacher, he really just wants to help students! He offers quite a bit of extra credit. Labs are super easy. I really enjoyed this class!! Take good notes and show up to lecture!
he's a really cool and genuine guy! i must say i do care a lot more about plants then when i first started the class. lab is fun, show up and work on your gardens it's not too bad! the hard part is lecture, it can drag on but take notes since it's really helpful. midterm is quite difficult but we got extra credit for good notes! i loved the class
This man is the chillest teacher Ive ever had! Super cool. Must take horticulture, seriously youll be sad when the class ends.
Honestly had the best time with this teacher! Super chill, and very approachable with questions. As well as very understanding! Definitely take this one, hes worth it! (I took it to fulfill my lab science requirement, but this class can seriously change your life.)
Lectures are unorganized and uninformative; extremely general and seems to not apply to what will be on the very few exams in course. Does not take roll. To reiterate, boring, uninformative, unorganized lecture with what feels like no point in attending. The professor is easy-going and nice. Haven't taken exams yet -- 7 weeks in. Strange.
Rob Farnsworth is an amazing person and an even better teacher. Lectures are very clear and concise, offers plenty of extra credit opportunities. Study the review sheets for midterm and final and you will do great. He is very accessible and is willing to accommodate. Definitely an easy A if you study. If you wanna learn and do well, take Farnsworth
Professor Farnsworth is a nice guy, but I fell asleep almost every class. He lectures at a snail's pace. Attendance to lectures is technically not mandatory, but lab attendance is for credit.
This class was super easy to pass (amazing because it can count as a lab class). I enjoyed the way that Farnsworth allowed the students to freely plant and prune. I really liked this course because the teacher is very relaxed and informative. Tests are easy to pass. Homework and journals are there for participation (very simple.) Found a new hobby!
Took his online class. Easiest class I've ever taken. No exams, one essay for midterm, and one small assignment for final. DB and short lab every week. He seems like a very nice guy over the discussion boards and is very committed to his profession of horticulture. I don't think you could ask for anything more. I would totally take his class again.
His lectures were slow and gave very little relevant information. He would forget to assign projects to the class and then become confused when no one would turn them in. He also put in the wrong final grade for me. I had an A for the entire semester but he put in a C, if I hadn't caught this mistake I would have lost my financial aid.
Professor Farnsworth is very understanding and extremely reasonable. His course is easy to navigate with very clear grading criteria. Participate in the weekly discussions and monitor your plants and you will pass this course.
Great teacher. He is funny and insightful. Assignments were very easy to complete and honestly pretty interesting. If you are going to take Hort 20 I recommend doing it with Farnsworth.
Easy class, DB each week (no responses), 1 lab assignment. You get to grow plants from seeds and guides you through the process. Do the work, it's super fun and you will pass no problem. He is very passionate about horticulture which is great! One of the best professors I've had, highly recommend.
This class was okay but it would have been better if I didnt choose the first lab slot in the week. The labs are already very long (3 hours) and if you take the first lab of the week, you're just removing weeds or setting up the landscape for the other classes the whole time. Only actually planted anything one time which was disappointing.
Easy A. Maybe an hour of work for the week. 1-2 hw assignments during the week but really easy and a discussion. Fun taking care of your plants. You do have to visit some nurseries. Easy grader just do the assignment. You do use the book a little bit. Keep pictures of your plants progress so you can use them for your final assignment.
Professor Farnsworth is awesome. This class is an easy A, and he gives excellent feedback: weekly lab assignments and discussion posts. I enjoyed the simplicity of this course, and he made it fun!
There is a lab, a quiz and a discussion every week which are all quite manageable if you read the syllabus. The quiz and discussion answers are in the book and this class is an easy and enjoyable A. He gives feedback and is very kind and reasonable!
This had to be one my easiest classes this semester. Discussion and written assignment each week, but you could do it all in 30 minutes tops. The professor was also nice and gives great feedback. There is a midterm written assignment and final assignment, but it's mostly about the environment and the progress of growing your own plants.
Hands down the best online class I've taken at Saddleback! While it is an online class, it makes you travel and visit places like nurseries. I felt more involved and immersed in the class because of this. There are usually 3 assignments a week, a lab, a discussion board, and a quiz. Very light workload and take pics of your plants, you need them.
This online class with Professor Farnsworth is a breeze. Weekly assignments are manageable, and the plant project is fun. Utilize unstuck study for efficient study prep alongside the textbook. Highly recommend for an easy A!
