very nice guy. go to class as often as you can. nearly all information is available online. provide multiple extra credit oppertunities. attend class on every friday, there is a fairly simple short quiz on weekly primary documents good way to keep your grade up. be prepared for the first exam ask teaching aid about essay questions.
All he does is put up Pictures and tries to crack jokes all the time. He needs to talk about the material and try to let us know more whats on the test by narrowing it down.
Class was really easy, just go to class, take notes, study the study guide he gives you and you will make an A. The hardest part are the quizes, since you have to read some primary documents that are hard to understand sometiems.
Easy class nice guy. Take him he does not have any papers to submit and won't waste your time. He's pretty funny during class too.
Great professor and nice guy. Tests are easy as long as you take notes and show up to class. Missed a week of class once, and the following test was that much harder (still managed to pull of an A though). Take this guy for World Civilization and I guarantee a passing grade.
I love Dr. Faust, cool and funny guy! He is helpful and easy to talk to. Loves history and gets boring. His test and quizzes are pretty easy because he will usually give 2 ridiculous choices and two possible ones. Take this class.
Dr. Faust is a great professor with a great view on Western civilization! He is funny and great entertainment during the lectures.
His test are easy if you study he is a pretty relaxed guy and helps if you ask!
He is pretty easy going. Obviously loves his class. The tests are extremely easy as long as your were awake in class and read the docs.
he's a good teacher but his teast are way to hard and he grades them hard. he gives you primamry documents to read along with the text book so its a ton of reading but if you read it all and mainly focus on the primary documents you should do okay. i just thought the test should be graded a little easier.
I barely made it to any lectures, however when I did go my notes helped tremendously with the study guides for the exams! As long as you know the study guide exams aren't too hard. You just have to study, but there is only four exams. The "random" quizzes are always on fridays.I am taking him again in 102. I highly recommend him!
Very jolly guy. He's gifted in the ability to explain history from a humanistic point of view. Great class. However, he is FILLED with information - have the ability to distinguish "exam info" from "small talk". Sometimes the line is really fuzzy. Try to record everything he says.
Great teacher although his lectures dont always contain only information needed for the test it always contains all information needed for tests so you have to discern between test info and fyi info. awesome guy and attitude!
An absolutely AMAZING professor!Makes the class very interesting and has very obvious.I took him for 101&102. But sometimes FYI info and test info from his lectures are hard to tell apart. Its great to learn from a professor who loves what he teaches. It makes it much easier to learn. Plus he is very understanding and lenient with late exams, etc.
Terrible online Prof! Doesn't answer direct questions via email. His replies are too general. He doesn't give individual feedback. All students get the same messages in their "grades section". He hardly ever participates on the discussion boards. Maybe he is better in the traditional classroom environment? He should stop teaching online or improve.
Terrible online Prof! He hardly ever participates on the discussion boards. Maybe he is better in the traditional classroom environment? He should stop teaching online or improve.
Dr. Faust is very interested in the subject and you can tell. There is a lot of online readings, and weekly readings from the book. He also gives online tests and "weekly surprises" in class.IF you READ you should do well.
He is super nice guy. There is toooo much reading in the class and the test are super hard. I would not take his class again:(
Dr. Faust is extreamly helpful. I had many questions and was always able to get an almost immediate response to my many email that I would send him. Very personable and wants you to do well. You have to attend class and do your online readings to suceed.
Took Faust for 101 and 102. Was never really interested in history until his class. Attend lecture, take notes and an A is easy to get. He teaches history as a timeline of ideas as opposed to a traditional chronology of events. Thanks to Faust, I am now a HUGE history buff. TAKE HIM!!! Great Professor!
I hated his class. Even though he was a cool, fun teacher teacher, his tests were really hard and he doesn't let you make up quizzes. If you don't like history DO NOT TAKE HIM
Take good notes and you should ace the class. However, Dr. Faust's class requires a lot of reading.
The man is a God, he focuses on ideas as the builder of Western Civilization and brings the history into an entirely new light. The lectures are highly stimulating and full of information.
Funny, very smart.
he's a cool man with a funny sense of humor! you should attend class every day, as he gives powerpoint notes and some of his in class notes are not in the text book. you must read the text book and study in order to do well. he has primary documents to read as well. i hate history and i almost have a B-, so it's an okay level class.
Very easy class as long as you read what he tells you. He is a very nice guy and cracks me up. Im pumped i got him again next semester for 102. He is very interesting and i have learned so much. P.S. im not that studious at all and i didnt struggle at all in his class
Doesnt take attendance, but he does give pop quizes. He can be pretty funny when he lectures which are accompanied by power points. Make sure u pay attention to wat he says & take extra notes or else pp isn't very helpful. Gives a lot of extra credit. Tests r short answer, essay, & multiple choice. He gives a sg, but they are still extremely hard.
I really enjoyed Mr. Faust's class even though I had to work for my A.This is NOT a slacker's class, you really need to know your stuff to make A's or B's on exams. To do good: go to class everyday, listen to what he says(not just the p.p.)and write it down, read the text, take the quizzes, and go to EVERY study session so you're forced to absorb it
Pay attention, attend class, and he will help you pass. Awesome! Wish I had more electives to take more of his classes. Only instructor to make history anything other than a chore.
Test format is difficult, but if you fill out the study guide and go to review sessions , it is not that hard. He gives A TON of extra credit, because it looks good and really helps. Weekly quizzes in class and online so as long as you keep up with them, you will do fine! He is an awesome teacher who really cares about his students
Dr. Faust is one of the most helpful teachers I have encountered at South! He replies to all emails and replied to all of mine within an hour. He gives study guides for all of his tests and his weekly online quiz is very easy. Do well on the assignments, do the extra credit, and you will breeze through his class! Go to class, there may be a quiz!
He is a really great person and gives you a lot of extra credit so take advantage of that! The weekly quizzes are worth a lot of your grade and they're really not that hard. Even if you don't do well on the exams, which are really hard, you can still end up with a good grade
while he does give A LOT of extra credit his test are unrealistically hard. in class he explains things to where you can understand if you can stay awake long enough to hear him. he gives an online quiz EVERY single week read or you will fail. i will not take his classes again. take advantage of the extra credit you WILL need it.
Dr. Faust is hilarious! However, your grade reflects how much effort you put into the class. All online quizzes are straight out of the book, so they're super easy. 2 exams, 1 final, & all with study guides; mainly prepare for the short answers and skim your notes/book. Do all extra credit, they help tremendously!
This course was so easy if you are serious about school. All you have to do is show up, pay attention, and take detailed notes on his main lecture points, which he makes VERY clear. take advantage of all extra credit. My final grade was a 100. Has pop-quizzes almost every week on the readings that are assigned each week. The test are not difficult
He was very clear on what he expected, even though class was not mandatory he often gave pop quizzes and handed out worksheets that you could only receive in class. He gave study guides to the test, know them backwards and forwards that's the only time you will use your book. I came out of western civ 1 and 2 with a b+. And he gives extra credit.
Dr Faust is the best if you can take him! I took him this summer online and he was very helpful coursework was manageable. The book was mandatory. He allowed us to make up a quiz by doing an extra credit assignment! He was GREAT!
Me faust is awesome! The tests are very hard but with All the extra credit u can basically bomb the tests. He has 16 online quizzes the answers are online click show feedback BAM correct answers!! He is hard but I passed 101 with a 92, and 102 with a 99 :) and history is not my thing. Make sure u do study guides they help some what
Dr Faust is great!! He makes class so fun and it goes by so fast. I don't like class usually but he changed that! Be sure to do the online quizzes though.
Dr. Faust is an outstanding teacher who is probably one of the best professors at South. He doesn't belittle you if you have an opinion/comments to add about history to his lectures. Definitely attend class and do the online quizzes and you'll do fine.
Dr. Faust is my favorite professor. I've taken him 3 times already and have passed every class. As long as you pay attention and study, you will pass. Plenty of extra credit opportunity and quizzes are very easy. Pass all those and pass the class no matter what you make on exams.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. His test are pretty much impossible to pass, and his lectures are all over the place. I will not take him for 136, or ever again.
Dr. Faust is a pretty good teacher for History. He explains everything well without expecting you to remember all of those dates. Gives a lot of extra credit. Lectures can be a bit dry and boring at times though.
Whatever you do folks, DO NOT start packing up before the lecture is over. He's a great guy, and if you disrespect him I think you'll feel his wrath. Last week, the majority of people packed up while he was still talking. This week our test was near impossible. The first test was many times easier. I think that was his retribution.
Test are tough but you only have a few. Lectures are long but very helpful. Stay awake. Take detailed notes not just the power points write down what he says. Over all good teacher
Dr. Faust is a very good teacher. he gives you ALOT of extra credit opportunities and offers multiple optional study sessions the week leading up to his test. His test are easy if you have good study habitspay attention in class. oh did i mention hes hilarious? he always finds some way to insert some joke into his lectures to catch your attention
Tests are mainly essays. A lot of extra credit. Very few tests. Very boring class.
TAKE HIM!!! If you somewhat listen to his lectures, take a few notes, and do the study guide you will make As and Bs on his tests!! Go to the review sessions he offers they give you essay answers and he gives TONS of extra credit that weighs a ton in your Sakai!! He is not afraid to really say anything in the classroom making him pretty funny!!
He is quite possibly the best professor on campus. He's willing to work with you if you willing to take the time to go to his office. He offers two study sessions before each exam (which I recommend) he also gives weekly online reading material and quizzes to help boost your grade. As long as you pay attention in class you'll come out with an A.
Dr. Faust is a good teacher. His lectures can get kind of boring, but he tries to connect with the class and attempts to crack jokes. There is an online quiz every week, usually a quiz in class every week, and four tests.. No midterm or final. He give a ton of extra credit and if you don't do it, that's your loss. Does not do make up quizzes.
He is really funny and loves his job so that really helps... He is hard but gives plenty of opportunities to bring your grade up. I had a 47 and he helped me bring it up to a 60 in 2 weeks. ***ALSO*** MAKE SURE TO DO THE ONLINE QUIZZES! CLICK FEEDBACK AND IT GIVES YOU THE ANSWER!
History western civ 101-102. One of the best professors I've ever encountered here at South. He provides extra credit and there is a quiz given every week online to help with your grade. His test can be tough if you don't study each term on the study guide. Start on it as soon as you get it to do well because it is pretty lengthy. Google everything
Random pop quizzes. He forgets and crams them at the end of the semester. Daily Clicker Questions so go to class! Always willing to help. Four tests(FINAL NOT CUMULATIVE!!) Gives study guides! DO THE STUDY GUIDE! YOU WILL FAIL IF YOU DON'T! Great teacher! If you aren't gonna study don't take him otherwise totally take him! He is so awesome!
Dr. Faust is one of the best professors i have taken at USA! He is so helpful and will work with on anything. He always gives opportunities for extra credit and Gives various grade boosting online and in class quizzes. Very funny guy and gives great lectures. If you are willing to study and show up to class hes an easy A.
Best teacher ever for the first year experience course
He is very helpful, also he try to give confident to students ,,,,,very useful class,,,,,He is so nice EASY A
Awesome guy! His lectures are pretty interesting, throws a couple of jokes once in a while. Attendance is very mandatory for not only he checks it every class but he also gives out random pop quizzes that you can easily pass without studying. Gives a ton of extra credit. Always try to help whenever you need to. Sets study sessions before tests.
Mr, Faust was a great teacher and it was clear that he enjoys what he does but the only thing that I feel like he needs to change is the way his study guides, power points, lectures, and tests do not go hand and hand. Other than that I feel he is a great teacher that loves to give extra credit to students that actually work in his class.
Gives good lectures, but be sure to pay attention and sit at the front whenever you can. Be sure to take good notes, it will pay off. Tests are hard, study guides are long and tedious. Frequent random, but usually easy pop quizzes. A lot of good extra credit oppurtunities. Do NOT skip class, pay attention, and take good notes. Should be an easy A.
Gives great lectures, every lecture is very important. He gives pop quizzes, but his extra credit is easy and could probably raise your grade a whole letter. Very funny and easy if you study hard.
Not the easiest class, you have to pay attention and show up or read the book. His tests have a lot of essay questions and he grades them pretty tough. I studied hard for both tests and aced the first but failed the second so be prepared to anything on the tests.
If you read the material and show up to every class, you'll have no problem. Even if you slack in some of the readings and make sure to study the material outlined on his study guides, you can make an A. There are only 3 tests, though, so you have to do well on all of them. His extra credit is a good padding though.
His lectures could get kind of boring, but most of them were interesting. Go to class because he has random pop quizzes and clicker questions before every class as well. His test can be very difficult if you do not take notes! They include essay, short answer, and multiple choice questions. And also do all the extra credit because it helps a lot.
good professor
I love this professor. I was a transfer and had him for HY 101. Then chose to take him again for 102. His tests are tough, but if you follow the study guide you'll be fine! He is also very understanding; my father passed away while I was in his class and he made every accommodation necessary for me.
Dr. Faust is hilarious! While I wasn't a fan of his tests and quizzes, his lectures were extremely easy to follow. If you do not take notes though you won't pass this class. His tests are really heavily reliant on notes and the slides he goes over in class. His lectures are very interesting and fun to go to. I just did not like the quizzes he gave.
Dr. Faust is the best professor I have had so far. I passionately hate history, but his lectures make the class incredibly interesting. He does give a lot of extra credit (so take advantage of that!). He also gives pop quizzes and tests with mult. choice, short answer and essay sections but they are really easy if you attend lecture. Great teacher!
He is a very smart, and good professor. His class is very interesting and he seems to enjoy what he does. His tests are very hard so you have to study and go to class to do well. However, he has a lot of easy quizzes and extra credit opportunities that can help your grade immensely. Good professor.
I didn't know much about history going into this course as a science major, but it turned into my favorite class of the semester. I actually looked forward to going to the class because his lectures are so interesting. He looks at concepts, not dates or details. Know the weekly terms and lecture material for tests and you'll be fine.
His lectures were easy to understand and the quizzes he gave were fairly easy if you listen to him and take good notes. But his tests were so hard. Some of the questions were easier to answer because he gave crazy answer choices, but the short answers sucked and the essay questions. The fill in the blanks were confusing too. disliked it very much.
Not gonna lie, it is a hard class. He's a really cool person, but his test are very hard.
His tests come straight from lecture. The only thing that comes from the book is the online quizzes.
Not a fan of history so I didn't really like this class. Teacher was ok, wouldn't take him again though. Not a hard A, just have to study a little bit.
Dr. Faust is a great professor but be ready for his tests(TOUGH). Take Notes! Random quizzes. Gives many extra credit opportunities.
pretty good teacher. do the work and you'll be fine
Mr. Faust is a GREAT History lecturer! I highly recommend BUT he does have random in class writing assignments and quizzes, and weekly quizzes we take online which are all super easy. His exams consist of fill in the blanks, short answers, multiple choice and 4-6 essay questions. He also gave 4-5 different opportunities for extra credit
I would not take him again. TAKE AMERICAN HISTORY DO NOT TAKE WESTERN CIV
He is the antichrist.
Dr. Faust is a great teacher. If I could take a second class taught by him I would. His classes are very much lecture based, so you need to take good notes because you use the notes for the exams. I haven't used the book once.
Apparently when I was in his class it was his first semester doing IRATS and they are ridiculously hard. The questions of the test are all open ended and if you are not specific enough in your answer you will get it wrong since he is such a tough grader. Also he only gives you like 15 out of the 30 minutes he's suppose to give you to take it. Awful
AWFUL! Along with the hard tests, he gives you 2 questions you respond to in two 5 paragraph papers that you have 2 days to write. If you are not specific enough he will not give you a good grade. Also if you use the primary documents improperly then he will not give you a good grade. Overall his class is VERY HARD!!!!!!!!!
For tests, you receive two essay questions that are graded ridiculously hard. The questions are vague and if asked, he'll tell you to influence the answers with your own opinions--though, I'm not sure this is the case at all. IRATS are taken every three weeks and 50-70 term guides are given where only like 3 terms are used on the quiz. Bad grader.
If you don't attend every class and take notes on EVERYTHING he says in his lectures, you won't pass the tests or essays
Dr. Faust is a very good professor. You do have to pay attention and attend class, but the exams and IRATs are fair, and use material provided. It is essential to try and read and understand the primary sources he provides on the website. The exam papers are required to include them.
save yourself and don't take this class. He gives IRATS every couple weeks and even if you get the answers right, he's looking for very specific answers and will count it wrong because it's not right enough. I have been a mostly A student throughout my 2 years of college and i have a D.
He makes the class seem like a graduate course.
If you're a full time student with a job as well, do not take is class. I had 6 classes this semester, & out of of all my classes, including my major specific classes, his was the most time consuming by far. He packs on more work than some 300 level classes and expects everything you do to be worded exactly how he would word it. Take anyone but him
He literally is the worst professor I've had so far. All he does is lecture for 50 minutes and only gives 5 quizzes the entire semester. The midterm and final are both papers with two prompts and he expects you to be an expert on all things history. I'm an excellent writer and this course was very hard for me because he sets the papers up to fail.
He treats the course like a graduate level course. You can write the rights answers down and he will still say its not right enough. Do not take this class if you dont have the time to work just on this class and nothing else.
only lectures for 50 minutes and usually goes over time. only gives a few quizzes that are mostly written. midterm and final are papers that he grades extremely hard. will not take again...
Dr. Faust is impossible if you have other hard classes. He assigned two essays that is impossible to finish within a week. He acts like he cares, but he absolutely don't. Drop his class if you don't want to feel bad about yourself.
I enjoy his lectures but he grades for his specific answers not necessarily the correct answers. If you value your grades i do not recommend.
He's an amazing lecturer and I really enjoy listening to him, but he is the toughest grader I've ever seen and his mid term and final are 2 long essays each that he grades with extreme prejudice. I don't think I would take his class if he has creative freedom with the curriculum like he does in Western Civ, but if he didn't, ABSOLUTELY
Good person and very funny. He knows his subject very well, but tends to be heavy on his lectures than notes. Also his grading is tough and there is never anything multiple choice. Be prepared to know everything even though quizzes are very short and only ask about a few of the topics covered.
Interesting lectures but extremely hard grader.
Awful at putting in grades and attendance. You get five absences and you won't know if you have used them until the end of the semester when grades are due. His readiness quizzes are awful, and are answering the prompt in 2- or more sentences. Wont take him again.
you can write the correct answer on his tests but he'll mark it wrong for "not having enough detail". Dropped my grade from an 86 to an 82 because I missed one assignment, he wouldn't let me make it up. My 400 level courses are easier than this class. And he definitely isn't "funny". Extremely tough grader.
This class was probably the hardest class Ive ever taken due to the fact that you dont know what is going to be on his quizzes.
Mr. Faust's class is extremely lecture heavy and BORING. He's funny but it doesn't help. Going to his office hours did not help and neither did tutoring. He makes you read a lot also. It was overall really difficult for me. would never take him again bc this was my worst history experience ever
A lot of people don't like Faust's classes because he is such a tough grader, which can be true. He really does seem to care about history and his students, but it's not a super easy class, all you have to do is study and go to class to pass. He gives a TON of extra credit!!! The final and midterm were take home exams! I ended the class with a 98:)
This class is challenging and hard work, but he is an awesome professor and he cares about his students so much! If you want an interesting class and want to challenge yourself I would recommend taking Faust's class. But if you are looking for a class where you don't try or do any work and pass this isn't your class...I would definitely take again!
I gave him a chance even after reading his reviews and the ones that say he is awful are right. He isn't just making you work for your grade, he grades too hard on everyone it is ridiculous. One of the worst professors I have taken at South, if you can avoid his class please do.
If you get this guy get ready to be treated as if youre a history major.
You will sit through awful 50 min lectures everyday and have no clue what is going on. Quizzes are very hard and obscure. He is also an extremely hard grader, even if you put the right thing down it will be marked wrong for having not enough detail. The midterm and final are both 2 essay papers that usually come out to be 6-8 pages long.
The TAs do most of the grading Quizzes are NEVER multiple choice Attendance is worth 200pts of your grade and you cant miss more than 5x. Your midterm and final consist of a 7-10 page paper that includes his sources he puts online and are 200pts each. He rarely sends out video quizzes or bonus points. - Ive had him for HY 101 & 102
Midterm and final are the worst.
he's all over the place and his readiness quiz study guides are so long and most of the time u need 5 out of 20 terms. it's a lot of busywork. note-taking helps a lot.
His slides are pointless with little info on them. I did best by taking notes of what he says. Test/quizzes are discussion and fill in blank ques. I never used the book but maybe itll help. Terrible at teaching hes just mostly chit chat and thinks everyone is a history scholar. Also there will be papers and the exams are hard take home papers
AVOID THIS MAN AT ALL COST!! If this class is required for your major, choose another professor because this man is not it. His lectures are very long and boring. His readiness quizzes are absolutely INSANE. The midterm and final are both long essays that are 9-10 pages long. The sources that he gives online have nothing to do with the prompts.
Love his personality but his class is HARD !
im currently having a mental breakdown over the midterm and needed to vent. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. i am a junior and the midterm exam is one of the most ridiculous assignments i have done in college. we have barely learned anything. He wants a ten paragraph paper answering one specific question w/o outside sources & no textbook/notes
As long as you take notes and pay attention in class, you will do fine. When he gives you a study guide, make sure you know other materials that arent listed. His midterm is given 2 weeks prior to the due date. All sources that you need to use are provided in the modules. This is my third time taking his class and i would do it again!
He had long lectures was lazy when teaching, he mostly read off the slides, and his testes were hard
Definitely take Mr Faust! he gives lots of extra credit and covers everything on his quizzes and test. he give lots of recourses to use to study. He does require lots of reading but if you get the basic understanding you will pass! he is very approachable and is always willing to help!
Okay, I am only a freshman here in my spring semester. I do NOT recommend taking him for your History course. Assignments are unnecessarily difficult and the content we read has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with our assignments. The Midterms and Finals are the worst things I have ever done in school. Please save yourself and take another professor.
all of his tests are open response with paragraph. very momotoned and dosen't explain well.
I love Dr. Faust. He is so nice and the class is fairly easy. The exams are a bit challenging but if you study you'll be fine (everyone I know that complains about him just doesn't study lol). He's a great teacher and gives lots of extra credit
The class itself is not hard but the way he teaches makes it hard. The test are really hard and he grades them strictly. Talks the entire class and doesn't stop for questions. Just rambles on for one topic the whole class. Lectures are hard to follow and he just talks and talks. Would recommend picking a different class.
The tests are not multiple choice they are fill in the blank which makes them extremely difficult
Lectures make no sense. Assigns super long readings of like books in the bible outside of class. He puts like 3 random sentences on the board and rambles about something completely different. Absolutely no way to keep up and take notes. His tests are all fill in the blank and essay questions. Assigns a big paper not even the second week of school.
Everyone complains about Faust, but in my opinion he is a good professor. You must work for the class. I ended with a 96%. In total, he offered 35 extra credit points that helped my grade. When studying for exams, there is A TON of material to study but if you study the study guide he gives, you are fine. He is helpful when you ask questions.
I took Environmental History and loved the class. Dr. Faust is truly an amazing person and excellent educator. I am using all the information he taught me in class currently. Thank you Dr Faust!
Pay more attention to what he is saying than what is on the screen during his lectures. He gives you a study guide and his tests are pretty straightforward. They are all open-ended/ fill in the blank, but if you utilize the study guide, then you'll be fine
This teacher makes it very obvious where he stands in politics and he does shove it down your throat. If you lean right, I would avoid this class entirely.
Great professor if you love history. His lectures can be boring if you simply dont like history, but he is very good at relating things to modern times, which is what I like. He is also very neutral in political and religious discussions, which is very good considering every other professor at south tries to push liberal views on the students.
midterm/final prompt given at least 1 week before. gives sources for papers, grades on how you defend your point. attend classes, write notes on what he says. look up terms in the study guide in textbook. teaches history bluntly, no personal views. approachable for questions, willing to help. oh no! teaches history course like a history course,
If you are conservative or Christian, DO NOT take this professor. His views are very clear on each subject and you will hate his class. Very lecture heavy, I have taken level 400 history classes that are easier than he makes the 101 class.
The only way that you can do poorly in this class is if you really don't try. He gives you everything you need to know in order to succeed. The tests are very heavy on the readings that he assigns on canvas so just do the readings !! He's such a kind professor and really cares about the students.
Read and answer the review questions they are on the test. You definitely have to put work into this class but you can end with a good grade. He has the objective questions on canvas, do them they are on the test.
Dr. Faust is ok, if you are just trying to get through a history credit I don't recommend. His tests are several short answer questions and two essays. You HAVE to study if you want to pass this class, but if you study the study guide and the reading review questions you'll be set. He does tons of bonus and some homework that helps your grade.
I am an honors medicine senior and took this class in 2020. This class was harder than any classes in my major. I had to take an history elective and decided to sign up for this class without the knowledge of what kind of menace this professor is to society. - Pop Quizes (impossible) - 1 Midterm Paper and 1 Final Paper (impossible). Drop Rate HIGH
I loved how passionate he was about teaching and I enjoyed his class. I did not do so well on the test and they were mostly based off the readings. Just be ready to study and read.
This class is very difficult and if you don't study you will not do well. We had 4 exams and for each exam, we had to read 4 chapters of the book plus extra readings with questions that appear on the exams. His study guides are helpful. However, I have studied a lot for this class and I still don't think I will get an A.
So, it says HY343 but this was actually HY310 and I can't figure out how to change that. ANYWAY, I took this class as a summer course. That turned out to be a very bad decision. He had us reading over 100 pages a week, doing 500 word discussions, a quiz every week, and a 3500 word paper. He stopped being attentive to grades about a month in.
As much as I like Dr. Faust, I did not like his class. It was very lecture heavy, and as someone with ADHD, it was not a fun time for me. The readings are required in order to understand what he's teaching, and his tests reflect it as well. It's hard to retain all the information necessary for exams if you don't spend lots of time studying.
lectures are long and have nothing to do with exams.TAs grade everything and grade SO HARD. so much reading and its all boring. test are all writing but no other papers. gives "study guide" but its not helpful at all. taught the same thing for 4 weeks but it was never on a test. he will talk to you if you have issues but leaves it up to the TA
This course is not easy if you are not prepared to read A LOT and take A LOT of notes. I was lucky to get a B thanks to extra credit. Other than the class itself Professor Faust is a very nice person.
Please do not take this professor if you're looking for an easy A for a history credit. He lectures all class and it's not interactive, His slides have little information on them but he expects you to take notes so you'll have to listen to everything he says. He is a nice guy but grades kind of harshly and has plenty of quizzes.
He's a cool guy. However, his lectures are super long and very boring. His tests are all short answer and essays. No multiple choice.
honestly, i dropped this class the second day of taking it because i noticed how unhelpful his lectures would be to my learning style in the near future. usually he talks in circles or gets off topic from the main point. he seemed like a decent guy but his lectures did not grasp me at all. good luck to anyone who chooses to stay in faust's class!
I had Faust fall and spring semester for 101 and 102 respectively. I really enjoyed his class! He was engaging and talked about history like it was a story, rather than just giving off a boring lesson. My only note is that he can talk about religion a little callously. Have to go to his lectures to understand the material but he gives extra credit!
Professor Faust's lectures can be long, but engaging if you stay focused. Lots of reading and note-taking required, but using study tools like Unstuck study helps prepare for the essays and short answers. Overall a challenging but rewarding class.
I know a lot of people who didn't enjoy the class, but I honestly didn't have a problem. He is a very lenient teacher and is pretty laid back. This class is VERY content heavy and there's not many grades so you have to do well on them. Pay attention in class because it's a lot of information. He was an interesting teacher and I have taken worse.
Does not post lectures, attendance is a grade, would not take again. Tests are not multiple choice btw.
I Took Dr. Faust's Before 1877 U.S History Course and it was great. I recommend recording the lecture and truly listen. his TAs are very helpful and if you approach him with questions he will answer them. DO THE STUDY GUIDES VERY HELPFUL. :) 10/10
Dr. Faust's lecture slides were just a basis, so you really had to listen to what he was saying. Sometimes he would take a long time on some slides and end up having to rush others. His "study guides" were more so just a list of topics you needed to know. All his tests are open response, about 8 single word, 4 short response, and 1 long essay.
this class is quite difficult, but Faust is very caring and willing to help out. the tests are what really get you
There is no multiple choice. The study guides were absolutely horrible. He would talk about things in lecture for one minute then expect you to write entire paragraphs about it on the test when it was barely even mentioned in class. You will have to read a lot and the reading won't even match up with the lectures. Attendance is mandatory.
Super nice and incredibly wise. Great as a person. As a professor...lectures were boring. LOTS of historical readings you have to do. The small quizzes before the exams are far easier than the actual exam, so much so that you think you will not have to study which is not true. Lesson learned. You have to study or else you will fail the exam!!
By far the worst class I have ever taken. I don't know how people are rating him good. His tests were horrible, all essay questions about stuff not even on the study guide at all. He is also not helpful at all with grades. I sent multiple emails and spoke in person about a quiz I did but received a zero on and he never looked at it or helped me.
I didn't like history before Dr. Faust, but I looked forward to his lectures. He's kind, respectful, and creates a comfortable, engaging environment. Clear expectations w/ fair accommodations for students who put in effort. Exams require real studying. Offers lots of extra credit and makeup work. Low ratings likely come from poor attendance/effort.
I love Dr. Faust. I love his lectures and teaching style. Tests are the majority of your grade, and there are quizzes taken on your own time with the book. Don't just study the study guide!! He posts readings for each module, and about half of the test is from those readings, not just the study guide!! He gives tons of extra credit, though. STUDY!
He was a very nice professor. His lectures were mandatory, he answered my emails, and met with me. I found it hard to study for his tests, nothing was multiple choice. He would give out the study guide a week before but it was very broad. You not only needed to know the study guide but you had to read and know the reading review questions.
