Knowledgeable, articulate, honest, straight-forward, very good man!
Good, intelligent,a good man. Though his material is Twilight Zone-like

He is very interesting and he makes you think. Fair grader, really nice guy!
Brilliant. Humble. Enjoyable. Friendly. The last gem of St. John's.
Kind man and very fair grader. The material is a little out there but as long as you prove you understand it you'll do fine.
Excellent professors. He's one who really cares about his students.
really kind sweet man, very very smart and fair grader
Presents a very original and interesting curriculum for Discover New York (Honors section). On exams, he is interested in student's thoughts and opinions, not restatement of facts. Very friendly and helpful. If you can, please take Dr. Forman's class.

Dr. Forman's command of the material is his greatest strength in this course. His knowledge of the readings and ability to make insightful correlations keeps the class lively and interesting. I would recommend Dr. Forman to anyone who wants to learn.
Dr.Forman is one of the best professors teaching here at the university. In my openion, his lectures are the most productive once and because they are so interesting, they continually keep your attention. He is one of the kindest professors here!
He is one of the best teachers here.He is very knowlegable and wants everyone to understand. He cares greatly for his students. He is interesting and fair. This is the third class I have taken with him.You will learn a lot.He is a good man.
Excellent professor. You won't be sorry you took him. His command of the subject is astounding. He's very humble and always happy to help his students.
He's great easiest teacher in the college will writ letters of recomendation for anyone. You don't have to write much of anything either

He is by far on of the best professors I have had yet at SJU. He is eccentrically brilliant and has a deep, genuine passion for his profession and students. His tests are fair and after his class you will definitely think in a new light. Highly recommend!
He is horrible. Dr. Foreman cannot maintain focus. His lectures are mindless, pointless, and boring. Totally irrelevant to the course.

Take him only if you like to think. If you do, he's great
Absolutely crazy...doesnt make any sense....avoid him for Discover New York
Take him if you like to think. However, half of his theories are from the left of the Twilight zone. Otherwise a good guy, and a good professor. This IS his life.

A kind man, always avaailable for his students
He's a wonderful teacher and always makes himself available for students. Contrary to what the ignorant fools who leave rude remarks on this site say about him, he is the kindest man you will ever meet. Take his class! You won't regret it!
A brilliant,down-to-earth,man you won't regret taking.Always avaiable to help and will go out of his way for you.He lives and breathes his work-his passion for his students is his greatest asset. You cannot complete an SJU degree without a Dr. Forman class
What a passionate teacher! I've never seen a professor so dedicated to his students! What could have been a boring class turned into a wonderful and incredibly interesting course. I absolutely recommend Dr. Forman to anyone! By far one of the best at SJU.
While most English courses at St. John’s reiterate common analysis of texts and literature, Forman’s classes are unusually brilliant and innovative. I don't think I've seen a professor at St. John's show more dedication and willingness to help students. I
Dr. Forman is an insightful, intelligent teacher who is both kind and genuinely interested in helping his students in every way possible--a combination of traits that is rare among professors.
One of the most insightful and intelligent professors. His command of subject matter is astounding. You won't regret taking his class.
In four years of my HS career, I never enjoyed English as a subject. However, upon meeting Dr. Forman,I miraculously grew to appreciate literature more than ever before. His dedication and passion in teaching inspire us to do our best. We love him!!!
TAKE THIS MAN
Dr. Forman is the best professor I have ever had. He is not only extremely intelligent, but kind. Every class I've had with him has been insightful. He is always there for his students, a great man.
he is a really undestanding professor. he is kind and he knows what he is talking about in class. he is well educated. he is very good if you are new in class.
Prof. Forman is a great Professor whom is extremely passionate about his his area of teaching, he is always well prepared, and available when you need questions answered or have a problem. I learned a lot in this class.
He is a great teacher. He is always there to help whenever you need it. He loves to do what he does and he is good at it! If you dont like english once you take his class you will appricate it a lot more
I love Dr. Forman. He is a pleasure to have as a professor.
brilliant. you can learn things from him that cannot be learned from anyone else.
He's not all that bad, doesn't take attendence but hates when you don't read the stories, uses the internet, but he says he is resigning this year.
Outstanding professor. He really cares about his students. He makes sure that students leave his class infused with enough knowledge to get through life. A little soft-spoken though.
Dr. Forman is in fact one of the best Prof's that I have had here at this University. Unlike others he honestly cares for us the student body. I think it was horrible for an individual and or individuals to come on this site and talk negatively about him.
He is a great teacher!!...he shouldn't leave because we'd be losing probably the most caring teacher on the campus...he is a fair teacher and he doesn't get mad at his students(maybe alittle annoyed when they dont read, but thats it)...he's GREAT!!
An excellent professor. Most importantly, really cares about his students and wants to help them and enlighten them. The content of his courses is actually valuable- also much better than anti-White European junk that has become fashionable in colleges.
Eccentric, but often very interesting. My core section had almost fifty students, but he held our interest.
Excellent teacher! Must go to class- NOTES IMPORTANT. You read 3 bks, all good. 3 tests- NOT EASY- u need ur NOTES! Gives possible ?s ahead of time, reviews in class, puts 7/8 on test, u answer 5. No surprises, but u have to study! ALWAYS HELPFUL!!!!!
Dr. Forman is a role model. He is always rethinking his subject matter and applying his knowledge in new ways. He always made me feel special and supported. Now that I'm a teacher, I hope I make that kind of impact on my students.
The best professor SJU has. brilliant, kind, caring, clear....do your work and you'll be fine. The day he leaves will be a sad sad day for that school.
HE IS SO CUTE! He plays wonderful music for everyone, very calm, very relaxed, very sweet professor. Deep, can be a bit much sometimes, but he really tried to get to know students and help them out however he can! Wonderful professor!
Though a bit eccentric (by his own admission), he knows New York and is very interesting. Wants his students to do well, but it's a bit of work. If you do the work, take notes, and study, you'll probably do well, and you'll learn a lot in the process.
Only 2 tests in the semester and he gives you the essay questions before them, hardly any work; only 3 essays and a final project. May bore you to death with nonsense, but it is an easy A.
The purpose of this course is to acquaint students with various aspects of NYC. Dr. Forman did this. He is a good teacher who sincerely wants to help his students.
Used art and music with the literature-a good course.
Great man who truly cares about his students and the subject. Tries to make it interesting, which can be hard. 3 papers on trips to NYC which can be annoying, 2 exams - given the questions and a paper. Do the work, show him you care, and you'll get an A.
Great Professor! I'm a graduate student now, and I have to say meeting Dr. Forman was one of the best things that happened to me at SJU.
Everyone else who has rated him is nuts. The class is an easy A, but it's really not worth how much you're going to want to kill yourself sitting through his lectures. Basically I just caught up on all the sleep I missed last semester.
Great Professor who sincerely enjoys teaching but you have to be willing to learn. He makes learning enjoyable and presents the best to his students.
I am an alum, who had Bobby Forman(that is a play on words his real name should Dr. Robert J. Formal), jokes aside. Dr. Forman is a profeesor who cares, he gave me a letter of Rec. for grad school, show up study hard and be nice.
One of the most kind, helpful, and unique persons I have ever met. His teaching method comes from the heart and he is passionate about what he does. Not only a great professor, but a reliable friend. Nothing less than the best learning experience.

great teacher, great guy, tests are fair, loves chaos theory, but most importantly he is a greta human being
Dr.Forman is a rare find! He’s enthusiastic about what he teaches and it is evident in how he prepares for class that he really enjoys teaching. He gives his students the full benefit of his expertise not only in literature but also in other related subje
I have had doctor Forman as a teacher for DNY and Global Literature. I am also taking his class on Greek and Roman Drama. Dr. Forman is not only one of the best professors I have encountered during my short time at St. Johns’ but also one of the most good
An amazing professor! Extremely knowledgable and so willing to help any student. He is there any time you need him. I highly recommend for any of his classes!
He is knowledgeable, sweet, & caring--I really don't think you can find another professor like him. He is a bit traditional, but you get to learn & really appreciate the literatures that many English classes abandon. It's not easy, but it is worth it.

professor forman is so down! hes really cool and loves to help students out. he loves teaching and he def. loves his students. take him if u can cuz hes also an easy grader.

Such a nice man, very intelligent and interesting, his mind is amazing. However, I thought i was going to die on his gyres, and his tests are hard because you need to remember a lot, and he has a tendency to pick on little things when he grades, which is good for your skills..and bad for your grade
Excellent teacher. A true original. This class will change you. It will be strange and seem overwhelming at first but it will get easier. Do exactly what he says and pay attention to details because he does. Do extra credit even though he is an easy grader. You won't regret taking this course. :)
My friend was in Dr.Forman's DNY & English class. I was able to take a DNY trip with that class and i had a blast. He welcomed me to join the tour when i showed up [unlike other DNY teachers who throw fits]. Dr.Forman is an incredible human being. He loves his work and it shos in his students.
As one of the other students mentioned, Forman is an original. This class is essential for every English major and his off beat modern comparisons to the plays will get you thinking. He is one of the most dedicated professors at SJU and will answer your questions at anytime of the day.
One of the GREATEST professors I have ever had at St. John's. He is always there to help his students. He is such a great man. Dr. Forman is a true example of a dedicated professor and outstanding human being. Keep up the great work Dr. Forman :-) You are the best!
Dr. Forman is a dedicated, helpful, and kind man. But he likes the texts read in class interpreted and discussed a certain way. You dont have an opinion in that class because he will tell you its wrong. You have to agree with him to get credit on the essays. But I got an A. 3 essay tests. He gives you the questions in advance.
Awesome Prof! Very straightforward, knows a ton about what he's teaching. He loves all of his students alot and is a very fair grader. Definately take him if you get the chance. He doesn't assign homework or projects, just take alot of notes, do the readings, and 3 tests... that's it. I'll def take him again if I can.
Dr. Forman is without a doubt the sweetest and most caring professor at St. John's. Besides being brilliant, he is so dedicated to every one of his students and will do anything to help them. Being in his presence is truly a blessing, and I'm so thankful I was able to take him. Dr. Forman, you are truly an amazing man..

He's a godsend as a professor! He's intelligent, sweet, kind and willing to help you out. He gives three exams, no homework, and a very fair grader. I would take him again if I ever have a chance.
took him last year for DNY, which was awesome. the trips were all gr8. again takin him next semester. is very helpful. i always go to him for advise. he is way better than the advisors in Freshman Center. he is born to teach. for him his students are everything. classes are easy and fun.and is willing to help u understand everything.
OMG Prof Forman is the nicest professor you'll ever meet. As stated before, he lives for his students and for teaching. Sometimes you might feel light falling asleep cuz he rambles a bit, but hes a very easy and sweet teacher. Id take him again if i had the chance!
Ok, so a friend recommended him and I took the class. He's a great guy, sweet & nice or whatever and I came away with an A... BUT you really have to be careful when picking a professor that another friend recommends. The teaching style that appeals to your friend may NOT appeal to you is all I'm saying...
A really good teacher-always available, even gives you his home number, checklist and reviews before tests.
If there is anyone who is born to teach, it's Dr. Forman. He is truly and amazing professor, ALWAYS there when you need him. He's so helpful and would do anything to see his students succeed. I'm actually appalled anyone would say anything negative about him.
Miserable old man who likes to come and class and sing. Class is somewhat uninteresting and if u dont agree with what he is saying better watch yuh mouth. Passable class but if you can choose another professor do so simply cause hes annoying.
No one could have worked harder. Dr. Forman took us on walking trips all over the city. I learned alot and I'm from NY.
Dr. Forman is the sweetest professor. This classis a challenging class that teaches you so much about classical epics. Dr. Forman does so much for his students, and is truly a thoughful and kind professor. One of the best!
Dr. Forman is a rare professor in SJU, he cares about his students, AND their opinions. He is probably one of the few professors who does not have an over developed ego and there is no limit to his knowledge. The person who wrote the incrediably FALSE statement about Dr. Forman needs to come to grips with reality:Dr. Forman is a WONDERFUL PROFESSOR
One of the best teachers this university offers, you can tell he loves to teach. He truly cares for his students. The only time he is not avaliable to his students is when he's sleeping. It is a pleasure going to his class. I'll be taking him for the 3rd time next semester, and I would recommend him to anyone.
Professor Forman is a sweet professor who cares a lot about his students. He treats the students like his own kid. Although at times I feel the class is useless when we do nothing but stare at the screen but overall he is a good english professor....Thanks Professor Forman for everything....
Dr. Forman is such a wonderful professor. He was born to teach English and truly cares about his students and their progress. Everyone should be lucky enough to take one of his classes. Dr. Forman is the model of what a real teacher should be.
sweet and caring prof; passion for NY, for teaching, for his students; can be finicky about the response papers to the field trips, otherwise, good prof
Had him for about 4 classes including American Lit. I have to admit, I wouldn't be able to follow everything he said, but he gave me good grades! If you're a sensitive person going through alot, just tune out when he goes into life being depressing, boring, pointless etc because it just may give you manic depression! caring & if you need help, ask
wonderful professor! class goes so well when people participate and its not just the professor talking. but forman is wonderful. he's around when you need him to be and he is very helpful and understanding. one of the sweetest professors EVER! do the reading and participate and you'll do fine!
He is a very nice man- just be in class and hand in assignments in time and u will do fine.
Dr. Forman is one of the sweetest professors at SJU. He truly cares for his students and is always on campus (which is way more than I can say for most profs). He has his own opinions, though, but don't let that discourage you. We had a great time with the Iliad and Odyssey, the Greek tragedies, etc. Come to class, read- three tests including final
one word, WIERDO.. This guy is the weirdest and lonliest professor in the world. ALways telling you to call his house. Puts you on the spot in class and comes to your face and spits all over while he talks. Do not take him if u want a "normal" ez professor to get a A in the class with.
He's very eccentric and interesting and his bright and cheery attitude does brighten up the class. He's very easy-going and patient, but he still manages to take teaching very seriously. He doesn't give out much homework and is a pretty fair grader.
The material was interesting, but he wasn't. Never really went in-depth, just focused on overall themes. Very weird and boring lectures. Didn't really make sense and talked about things that had little to do with the actual material.
It really is necessary to read the work. Dr. Forman's lectures assume that you have done this. He is always on campus and willing to help.
I think its pretty difficult to get below a B+ in his class and hes an extremely genial guy. He always asks students whether they are fine and is someone you can simply relate all your troubles or feelings to.He always wants them to succeed. He gave us 6 essays & final project which are a bit difficult to get A's in but A-'s are easy to get on them.
Certainly an unusual course--combines art, music, literature and just about everything else.
The best professor and st johns, hands down. He's funny, intelligent and cares about his students. Always available for advice and an easy grader. He makes the most boring topics interesting.
extremely nice man. great passion about new york is obvious. likes participation in class, but it seems like he loves his students to much to give them bad grades.
Great Professor and even greater human being. By far one the greatest on St. John's campus. He really does have tremendous passion for his work and students, and it always shows. Great integrity too.
This was a great class. He didn't require you to buy one of these ridiculously expensive textbooks. We took three non-cumulative tests. But his lectures were so mesmerizing and intriguing. It was a true pleasure to be in his class, for he was truly one of the best professors I've ever had.
Dr. Forman is one of the most knowledgeable professors at St. John's. Three exams, in-depth lectures accompanied by music and art. He is THE professor to take if you love English and the Classics. Very helpful - you can always find him and talk to him. He might get a little too excited every now and then, but that only shows that he cares.
He is by far one of my favorite teaches at St. Johns. He's such a nice and genuine guy. I always looked forward to attending his classes. He also cares alot about the Honors Program. Kudos to him. I will always remember "gyre" and "paradox" from this guy. Go alph the snail! Woohoo.
he teaches the honors DNY. very easy class. early morning trips to manhattan every other saturday that take time out of sleep. he likes to play favorites too.
Nice man, some times tends to care too much about the student and might get offended if you skip his class or tours for whatever reason. Easy Class, not much work. He's a great professor, very smart and energetic.
I really appreciate his unabashedly different perspective on things. The morning classes are hard just because they are in the morning. If you need extra help understanding a requirement or anything else he is very helpful.
He's OK, but very boring. One minute he can be really nice and then the next he'll embarrass the crap out of you. Also tells jokes that are NOT funny, they are so dumb you don't even know that he's telling a joke. Then he gets mad if you don't laugh at his cornball jokes. He's an easy grader though, on the brightside.
He's not boring if you remember that you're in college and you're there to learn something. He's very enthusiastic about the material and knows everything and anythinga about it. If you're a serious English major, TAKE HIS CLASS but please not for an easy A because you're wasting Dr. Forman's time and everybody else's as well.
A great teacher who is very helpfu.I would recommend taking him if you are an English Major. His untraditional way of teaching things definitely help keep the class from becoming boring. As for his jokes, sometimes they can be hard to understand, especially in the morning, but he is a very intelligent man who knows a lot about what he is teaching.
this professor is outstanding; He has vast knowledge of any subject he teaches and presents his material in an exciting and extraordinary manner utilizing many references both in literature and on the internet....Fascinating, extremely intelligent and very concerned about the and caring about his students....Always willing to help and assist those i
I can't imagine a person who cares for others as much as Dr. Foreman does. Excellent class, excellent professor, wonderful person.

Great professor - he is what real, university teaching is about. Scholarly and learned, with a real caring heart for your progress. Take his classes. You will not regret it.
AMAZING, JUST AMAZING. i've had 3 classes wit him n he is wonderful, a pure delight. he care so much for all his students. if u ever need a shoulder to lead on he is there. im happy to have met him. he introduces many new aspects to the course work so u will not get board. plz take any of his classes. if u think hes bad, U HAVE A PROBLEM!
awesome professor and person. however i feel like he would be a better english prof than DNY. i got an A- from busting my rear end on the exams. the class was a great experience even though it was so early in the morning. plays favorites but if u show effort and limit ur skips hell work to help u.
A wonderful professor who is able to blend all different types of art with what he's teaching. A lot of challenging reading but he makes the class fun and very painless. Recommended for all. Always has the time to answer questions and very approachable. One of the best.
dr. forman is the kindest, most caring prof at st. john's. he is enthusiastic about NYC and (rightly so!) expects his class to be, too. his walking tours are awesome - he seems to know everything. he'll go out of his way to help you, but he gets offended easily when you don't appreciate him. great prof, but greater person. is always there for you.
I didn't expect to learn so much in his class! Very smart and loves his job. His lectures can drag on occassionally, but for the most part they are interesting and entertaining. I found the three tests very easy (I didn't even read everything) but I got A's on all of them. Simply go to class, listen and take notes. He's always there to help!
Dr. Forman is quite possibly the most magnificent man to grace the planet. He is my own personal vessel of wisdom and I'm quite certain there is nothing that he does not know. Sometimes I like to imagine that a dinosaur was going to attack the class, which is when Dr. Forman in all his glory would pull out Excaliber from behind his desk in order
to defend his beloved students, while nimbly hopping and flipping around the classroom in a manner reminiscent of the great Jedi Master, Yodo.
I took Classical Epic-decent class, but Dr. Forman is more opinionated (and defensive) than he thinks he is.He's extremely kind, extremely knowledgable, extremely energetic, and extremely easily insulted. He repeats his jokes until someone has pity on him and laughs.I know them all by heart. No work, but I also learnt close to nothing. But he's very nice
Dr. Forman really cares about his students and the content of the class. He always makes the class interesting and you will take a lot away from it without realizing it until later on. Definately take him!
the guy cares about his students, but in all honesty if you don't want to go on his walking tours, he tries to lay on the guilt trip. i personally have no interest in the history of ny, and he does not seem to understand in grading that your own views do not necessarily fall in line with his own.
Dr. Forman is an astounding teacher. He puts his students above all else. You can't find a teacher more eager to help each and every pupil. He continuously goes out of his way to make sure you are receiving everything you need from the school and programs here.
Honors DNY was a great class. Dr. Forman goes above and beyond for his students and is easily accessible. The walking tours were the perfect supplement to the class. Passionate about subject material and knows what he's talking about.
Quite possibly the nicest old man ever, but he makes a lot of mistakes during his lectures. Read the book and you can pick them out. Knows a lot, but has trouble communicating it sometimes. Class is easy: 3 take-home essay exams. He doesn't mind getting late work. Develop your theories thoroughly in the essays.
I wanted so badly to enjoy Forman's class but found it to be pretty mediocre. Your grade is made up of three take-home writing assignments.
Funny, because I really enjoyed this class. I think you have to be willing to see connections beyond the obvious.
I think that this class is great if you're the creative type. three papers, based on our conversations in class and easy to write. When you show up to class he has classical music playing and paintings to show you. don't need to buy the book but it helps a lot, especially if you don't want to look up the right translation in the library. love him
Great teacher and even better person. Wish I participated more. With the essays, it seems as though he looks for a certain type of writing style. Make sure you are in sync with this style (go to his office hours). If you like classical music and out of the blue connections to anything and everything, take him!He tries hard to make it interesting
I got the worst grade throughout the entire year in this class(B+).im a pharm major nd not very good with writing essays.if u find reading burdensome nd is taking this class just for hon credit, dont take it bc ur gpa drops nd will quit honors starting sophomore year like me.overall, what others say is correct.just doesnt fit certain ppl.
Dr. Forman is simply put, a genius. you MUST know before hand if this class really fits you. If you like reading and think creatively, this is a class that you should take. if u are pharm major and is far from lieterature type, ur gpa will drop and ull even quit honors like me. through 2 sem, i got all A's. but B+ in this class is my biggest regret
it is an online distance learning class. i c his syllabus i thought it was impossible but then when the class start it, he makes everything so clear and send him email whenever u need it he will respond to u n i am chinese english so so yet he gave me an A!!! totally recommend him
He has a lot of knowledge and wisdom but his opinionated beliefs keep his students from expressing and progressing fully. If you want to do well, just simply agree with him. However, if you want the freedom to express your own opinions seek another teacher.
Disappointing... I know him as a nice man but I didn't like being in his class. HE would flinch and stop teaching every time the door opened and closed in the classroom.. it got annoying and interrupted the course. I didn't like how the ENTIRE grade was based on 3 papers. I asked for help and he said he would not read papers beforehand... so w.e.
Dr. Forman was the most inspiring teacher I have encountered in my education. He is one of the most knowledgeable professors at the university, but more importantly, genuinely cares about each one of his students. I hated having to wake up early every day, but I always walked out of the classroom a wiser and better person.
I was in that archaeology class and that student has it completely backwards! How can you be mad at a professor for getting distracted instead of being mad at the students who are the ones coming in late and being distracting?! I loved that class. Dr. Forman was so funny and interesting. Plus he truly cares about his students. I HIGHLY recommend!!!
A great class! I have to admit that prior to it I had zero interest in arch. I only took it b/c I needed the credits, BUT Dr. Forman could make any subject interesting. The best part about him is how much he cares though. He goes above & beyond for his students & he has helped me out on more than one occasion with the Dean & with recommendations.
He is a very caring and understanding professor; he wants his students to learn the most from his class. I had him for latin and I think he's a very good instructor, if you need help he's always in his office. He's always trying to make the class laugh from his little jokes or stories, its entertaining though.
Love Dr. Forman! Ask for help when you need it and he will do everything in his power to help you. Be respectful and do the homework and you'll have no problem.
Dr. Forman is a great man and is truly so passionate about what he teaches. He tries to incorporate art and music into everything, which makes the class more interesting. If you are an english person you will love it, if youre a science major it might be harder but just participate and have a good thesis in your essays
Class is very boring. You must do readings, he puts you on spot if he thinks u didnt read. few essay sets. read, participate, have good understanding of the point of the story and you should do well. he's an amazing person outside of class though.
Do you like writing two 2000 word essays in 17 days? Neither do I. While kind, he is scatterbrained and gives far too much reading and work. Way. too. much. work. Do not take if you are a hard major such as PA. do not take.
He is a great professor with an interesting outlook on classical literature. I never did like classical literature but he definitely changed that. Definitely take him. One of the better professors on campus.
kind, understanding professor. if you are pharmacy, he gives a lot of work (4 essays and readings) you do not have to buy the books. I did ok considering I never read 1/2 the books. Use sparknotes/summaries. He likes to make connections between literature and life. Interesting person, his lectures are boring if you are not into english/literature.
Take him for Global Lit! I've never read so much Literature in one semester. so much wisdom in his lectures. You'll learn a lot about life from literature. OH& if you get lower than a B on an essay he lets you rewrite. Very fair, because the point is you learn and understand.
You will never meet a teacher in your life that cares as much about his students as he does. End of story.
Quite simply, my favorite Professor at St. John's. Very caring, knowledgeable and makes class fun. Passionate about education and it shows. I am very happy I had this man as a teacher, as he is a great role model for how all College Professors should ideally be.
My only regret is that i did not take him sooner. Dr. Forman was the best professor I took at St. John's. Smart, Kind and Caring are all understatements.
great professor. in another class i would've found the readings boring but he made connections between the readings and to relevant stuff
While there is a few writing assignments due, he gives an ample amount of time to complete and he is a fair grader. There is nothing negative I have to say about this professor, he was one of the best I've had. Don't think twice about taking him for any class, he'll teach you a lot and help you immensely along the way.
one of the best professors, super helpful, always there to make sure you're learning and doing well. will help you out to make sure you get the highest possible grade, and such a sweetheart.
I took his Classical Archaeology course, which is also registered as a CLS and ART course, and loved every second. He is a wonderful teacher and his lectures are incredible.
The best class I've ever taken. His lectures are different from anything else you'll take in college. All his work and assignments are pretty clear and not difficult, he's a lenient grader when it comes to final grades. He just really wants his students to maximize their potential and learn all they can. Cares a lot about each and every student.
If you put a little effort, its not hard to get an A-. But even if you put a lot of effort, it is really hard to get an A. There are 3 essay sets (each of which are 3 essays long) and midterm and final.
This class is an easy A. Make sure to read the books they're fun to read. If you need help go to his office hours, if you show you put effort, he recognizes that, but he cares about his students. Therefore, getting an A is possible, just read the books LOL! Also, enjoy the class, I learned a lot in this class. :)
Excellent lectures. Very friendly and helpful. Really wants students to learn from lectures and incorporates vast knowledge he has into explaining hard/new material. Highly recommend him!
Not only a great prof. but a great individual. Genuinely cares about his students and is very knowledgeable both as a person and of the scholarly profession.
Great professor who truly cares about his students. We had about 4 books to read this semester and they were quite interesting. The midterm and final were very straightforward and got to pick 5 out of 10 questions to answer. He can be very blunt with students but overall a great guy. Lectures can sometimes be boring but learned a lot from them
Dr. Forman is a man with a great knowledge of nearly any topic. He is a very easy grader and loves his students. I don't have much interest in the class because it is not my major, but it's not because he' s a bad teacher, it's becasue I dislike the topic. Would reccommend him to anyone.
This class is easy. Dr. Forman really cares about his students and wants to see everyone do well. Read what he assigns and you'll be fine for the tests. The class can be boring at times but he is super nice and inspirational.
Dr. Forman is honestly the best professor. Not only is he the sweetest guy, he makes 7:30 am Global Literature enjoyable. He recognized that this was going to be many people's last English class, so he tried to make it not only simple but as enjoyable as possible. You only have 3 tests all year and he helps you know exactly what is on them.
Great professor. You have to pay attention in class and take notes to do well.
He is the cutest man ever. The only thing I would say is that he moves really fast so make sure you are caught up with the books. Just pay attention and take notes and you'll get an A. There are 3 tests and he is very clear about what is on them.
he gives three exams on the five books you read for the class. he never seems to take attendance since i never actually saw him writing anything down. the text are 10 short answer questions to which you choose five. you can get by with not reading the books if you plan on listening to the whole lecture and not zone out.
Professor Forman is amazing!!! I took his Honors Global Literature course and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. There's no homework in this class (except for reading the books to keep up with the discussions). We only had 3 tests and they were solely based on his lectures so make sure you pay attention and take good notes!
Absolutely take him. He's an absolute gem of a professor and really cares about his students. He is very passionate about the material and wants to share that passion with you. He is really sweet, so you better be nice to him! Tests are really straightforward. Try to participate because he really appreciates it.
Forman is a very nice guy. He is one of those professors that I feel lucky to be able to say I got to take him during my time at SJU. Read the books and show up to class to do well on the exams. He really values participation. He is getting older so if you have the opportunity to take him do so before you miss it
Professor Forman is such a caring man. You either need to go to class and listen to his lectures or read the books, don't have to do both. Three tests in a semester, five questions each. 100% would recommend.
I'm so happy I had the opportunity to take him for this class. He is very clear-cut, so no surprises on the 3 exams we take in the class. Just show up, do the readings (or don't), understand the themes he's talking about and you're good to go. He genuinely cares and puts effort into his lectures when it comes to real world connections. Best prof!
Dr. Forman might be the greatest professor at SJ. He teaches many different courses, each interesting in its own way. Dr. Forman also runs the Honors program which exposes students to culturally important places/things in NYC. A great man who is passionate about what he teaches. If you have the opportunity to take him, do. Also, cracks great jokes.
Very sweet man who loves his students. Loves to crack jokes. Just read the books and he will help you pass the quizzes for them.
you have to read 6 books (this is the worse part of me) and then you get two tests and a final. Each test is two essay questions on the book. Make sure you dont wake till the last minute to do the assignments because they start pilling up
Professor Forman is passionate and enthusiastic about everything he teaches, and his classes are clearly focused. I've taken him for a few courses and he makes the most of each class time and helps every student understand and enjoy the material as best as he can. He really cares, and he is one of the best professors I've taken at St. John's.
Robert Forman is a very sweet man who is passionate about what he does... being about in his 80s and still showing up to do classes during a pandemic. He will help you with any questions. Readings can be tedious but it is really only one question per book you read for the three essays. Definitely take while he is still here or you will regret!
Professor Forman is one of the sweetest professors I have ever had. The class itself involves a lot of reading, but he makes the reading easier to understand through his notes. He grades very quickly and gives good feedback. I will say there is quite a bit of reading but if you keep up and take notes, you will do fine in this class.
Professor Forman is truly one of the kindest and passionate professors I've ever had. I know the classes sound boring, but I promise he makes it so enjoyable and loves to hear original thoughts. The readings really aren't that bad and he's very lenient. No exams, just 3 very fair papers. Please take him! All you have to do is go to class and read!!
Professor Forman is great when it comes to providing insight on literature. However, he expects you to read at your own pace which can sometimes be inconvenient. He also provides very little to no feedback when it comes to reading essays. On the bright side, he is a quick grader. P.S. you can get through this class without listening to the lectures
To say Professor Forman is an asset to the university is an understatement. He is incredibly generous with his time and is very accessible outside of the classroom. Any question or concern you may have will be addressed with a thorough explanation filled with kindness. I have learned much from him. Do not miss an opportunity to take his class!
What a gem. Makes class interesting, extremely kind, understanding, and explains everything thoroughly. The class is based on weekly readings and three "exams" which are written short essays. Not a tough grader and will help with whatever he can.
Only 3 exams, no assignments, but a lot of readings that would time to read. He's very enthusiastic about his work. Though, he would assume you have preexisting knowledge of Greek mythology. Half the texts focused heavily on Greek mythology, so in addition to reading those texts, you'd have to research their references to fully understand it
He's a great teacher and fairly easy grader. English is not my strong suit but luckily Forman talks ALOT so just take notes and you'll do okay. A lot of reading in a short period of time. He does call on you randomly but it's only for the first few weeks of class.
I truly dreaded going to his class because he made me feel my lack of understanding was a big problem and a shame. He is genuinely a caring guy and is passionate about the subject, but it's too much in certain situations. YOU NEED TO STUDY !! You slack off even a little and you're done. GL
Very nice person, very reasonable grader. Classes were soooo boring. Would talk for 1 hour 20 min straight and I couldn't help but fall asleep. A lot of reading, but you might be able to get away with reading summaries as long as you pay attention to the points he makes in class. Only graded based on 3 tests and you need to write 3 essays on each.
He is truly one of a kind. I love his humor and his jokes in class. He really cares about his students. It really breaks my heart to see him struggling to get to classes. He told us he suffered a stroke in the summer so he's partially blind in his left eye. Yet despite this, he manages to come to class excited to start the lesson.
He's such a sweetheart! His class may be boring but if you just listen to his lectures you will easily understand the readings. About 6 books/readings and gives three exams which were essays on the given texts (including final). Just take notes and you should be fine. He's a fair grader as well! Just show him that you care!
Lecture heavy 100%!! You can get lost if you miss a lecture. The texts are easy reads and his lectures are interesting and insightful. He is a kind professor who highly appreciates (and takes note) of participation. He dislikes lateness and people leaving his classroom during lecture, but overall I definitely recommend his course.
Lecture-focused class, but engaging if you participate. Textbook readings are manageable. Use unstuck study and take diligent notes - it really helps with the essay exams. Overall, a fair grader who appreciates effort.
Dr. Forman is the gem of St. John's! He is an amazing professor who is passionate, knowledgeable, and caring. He loves to crack jokes during his lectures and appreciates class participation. His lectures and readings were fascinating. He cares so much for his students and St. John's, he really is there for his students.
Professor Forman is super sweet and welcoming, and his class was wonderful. He only used canvas for a couple of assignments, and we had paper exams but those were relatively easy. He goes over a lot of readings and shows videos in class, and everything is easy to follow along. Would definitely take again.
