WORST TEACHER EVER! DO NOT TAKE! He sits at the front of othe classroom all hour and lectures about small details that are totally out of context. Relies heavily on readings! DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY! WORSE TEACHER I HAVE HAD AT NCC so far!!! RUN PLEASE!
He is the best teacher. i dont get bored in the class i enjoy going every day
He is definitely unique. He teaches on ideas instead of facts which I thought was odd for history. But it actually makes the class more interesting. He does talk a lot, which makes the class drag on at times, but he can be pretty funny too. The majority of your grade is based on papers that you write. He says that he's not a harsh grader, but he is
He is not a very good teacher;we had to read 5 books in that class. He lectured for 2 full hours and its' so boring. PLEASE, do not take this teacher; he tells us that he is not a hard grader but he is; trust me! One more thing, when we had to write essays, he would get very picky on spellings, sentence structure, etc. and took out many points.
LOVED this professor. He will accomodate to your needs. I was never very interested in history but he had group discussions and that made class go by quicker. I took this class as a night class and I think I missed it only one time due to illness! I reccomend him if you are ready for a challenge though.
He spends the two hours giving notes that he projects onto the screen-- what stinks is that he won't put them on D2L before class, so if you're like me and need to write down explanations in the margins, you have to write down all his notes.Gives you a 10 minute break if you take his 2-hr class. Non-tolerant of talking, passing notes, cheating, etc
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Of course he was none tolerant of cheaters, talkers, note passers, but a teacher shouldn't have to put up with that it and neither should the students that are there to learn. I took all of his classes, and learned so much from them that I decided to major in history. I would recommend him for sure!
He's very specific on what he wants but gives way to much homework. grades pretty easily except for exams.
He is very knowlegable, funny, quirky, interesting. He has high expectations and you should be serious. Lots of reading, tests are easy if you are prepared (essays). I liked this class a lot!
He is good but very demanding...and give lot of work...
Great Instructor! I never liked history and he made it much more interesting and tolorable. Definately recommend
A lot of writing and reading in this class. Very particular with the writing assignments. Tests are not too tough if you're prepared.
I loved his class.
This class is an easy A if you are prepared to write. There is a writing assignment every week and two large papers. I went to every class and never read the book, just take good notes.
Excelent teacher and overall class. I have learned a lot about Mn History from this class and would recomend it to anyone. Fair amount of reading for the class but the reading will give you an A in the class.
Sets a high standard for submission of written work (grammar and content). Class points divided well between minor writing assignments, major writing assignments, exams, and lecture participation. Lecture and Q&A style present as somewhat intimidating & critical but you may find it kind of funny and insightful by the end--then again, you may not.
R. Frame = talented historian and teacher. he will require that you READ and WRITE a good deal... Oh Dear, who could have predicted THAT! It's a HISTORY CLASS you jagoffs! Slackers take your lazy arses elsewhere - this is COLLEGE. I found his self-deprecating style thoughful, charming and very engaging. your milage may vary.
He should be teaching alongside David McCulloch (the great historian). Anyway, I learned what I supposed to learn...college level thinking! He makes you think---you are not just memorizing historical data, you are using some cristical thinking. THIS IS COLLEGE FOLKS!
amazing teacher, and a very fun class! a lot of reading and writing, but he grades pretty easy. and he is hilarious!
Was always unclear about the way he wanted assignments done. Was a really hard grader - and was hard to get a good grade on papers when his instructions were very unclear. So glad this class is over with and I got a good grade -- moving on!
It didn't really matter if you came to this class or not because the stuff he talked about never prepared you for the tests!hard to figure out what to do for assignments& tests because the directions were unclear. Would not reccommend taking the 4 hr night class it took forever to go by! I liked him as a person just not his teacher bad teaching st
Did not care for him at all. very confuseing and judging. did not like the fact that i have a family and wast able to make it to every class or that i might have to leave early because of a job or family.
Very confusing, rambles on a lot and makes it more confusing. When you try to engage in class he tells you that you are wrong but then get frustrated that you don't participate. felt like the homework was useless. learned most of what I needed to know from the textbook and felt like it was pointless to show up to class. longest 4 hours of my life.
Worse class of all time. All he does is talk and what we do in class in pointless, the his grading on the hw is a joke , every movement you make in class he gives you the stink eye. He only gives us one day to do the online quizzes when most teachers give you at least a week. His test are tricky, don't take this class. He judges you and is hard.
This teacher is one of worst teachers I have ever had. his class is boring and the homework is useless. If y a single noise he freaks. his opinion is the only thing that matters. Yours doesn't.
A LOT of assignments. Discussions take up a lot of your time. He is very precise about grammar - even in discussions. Will take off points for minor mistakes. This class is hard, but if you put in effort you will pass. He is very clear in directions, which is nice. Would recommend to those who are willing to work HARD. Not an easy class.
Frame knows his stuff and expects his students to as well. This was a difficult, but educational class. I learned far more than I expected to. The class was challenged to think critically instead of just memorizing names and dates. I recommend this class for someone who actually wants to learn, but be forewarned that it is not a slack-off course.
This class was difficult but I learned more than a typical class. You have to actually read and think. Not just memorize dates. Mr. Frame does expect students to write at college level (is that really bad?) and I appreciated that. It helped me improve my writing skills. It was an honor taking him! If you're looking for an easy A, don't take.
Not a good teacher. I had to end up withdrawing from this class because he graded so harshly. Do not take him as a professor.
I learned more about writing in his class than from my freshman composition class. Excellent teacher. He asks that you critically examine the reading material, not just read the words. He can seem challenging for slackers. However, I would recommend him.
Professor Frame is by far one of the best history professors! AVOID Chuck Chalberg he is horrific and has serious ego issues. I switched to Proffesor frame and learned more in his class rather than chuck. STRONGLY SUGGGEST PRFFESSOR FRAME!!
Class was very interesting and my writing improved significantly. You learn to analyze the material instead of just skimming over it for a summary. I would take this class again!
Not traditional history class - be prepared - goal is not to just learn dates, but learn WHY things happened and how/why history was changed. I loved it! Great guy, if you read and pay attention you will do fine! If you prefer classes you just have to memorize dates, and not learn the full picture, this is not the class for you.
I loved this class! Professor Frame makes history interesting. He doesn't care if you remember names or dates as long as you can understand why something happened. Be prepared to do all your homework- he has no hesitation calling you out in class. Nonetheless, I loved the class (US History I) and I would love to take another class with Frame.
I took this class as a hybrid course, and we met for four hours on Saturdays. Homework was an okay amount. Typically it was one or two chapters a week, with a ten point open book quiz, a few primary documents with one analysis and summary, and two online discussion posts. There was one paper and two exams, but we took both at home. Must participate
He is the best online teacher I've ever had. Super responsive and keeps the class interesting. He wants you to succeed. The work is decently challenging, as usual, but I looked forward to seeing the class discussions. Very clear cut schedule and grading - easy to fit into a busy lifestyle. If you need to take an online course, take it with Frame!
LGBT U.S. History was a discussion based classed so participation mattered a lot. He isn't afraid to call students out and ask them questions. He's super nice and helpful if someone needs to speak to him. By far one of my favorite professors at Normandale.
He words things so hard to understand and if you ask a question he just copies and pastes from the syllabus or some other paper. He has things due three different times a week. He also takes forever to grade anything so you never know if your doing the work right.
You have assignments due every week (except for exam weeks) and he doesn't grade ANYTHING so you have no feedback on whether you're doing the assignment correctly so you have no chance to get better as the semester goes on. Its so stressful! If I had known earlier I definitely would have dropped the class. Definitely would not recommend to anyone!!
Doesn't give feedback on homework for months, instructions are unclear, changes assignments a lot. Would not recommend.
Robert is an amazing professor. He is clear, concise, funny and he asks you to think outside the obvious. I appreciated this method very much. You write a paper a week, but this is college and they are not long nor hard. I would take any of Roberts classes if given the opportunity.
I took Prof Frame in my first semester back in years. He's not easy to be sure, But my study and writing skills improved dramatically from him.
Extremely rude and disrespectful to anyone. WILL call you out if you talk at all or if your phone is sitting on your desk. I would recommend not taking ANY of his courses.
He grades you on participation, but if you're an introvert, like me, you can still get an A in the course if you do well on the homework, quizzes, and tests. A lot of reading and writing. He's a nice guy. This was a 4 hour night class, and the class can be a little boring at times.
He was an ok professor. Everything is laid out on the syllabus so you know what your homework will be and what is due and when. Quizzes are online which is nice but you have to do all the reading and note taking yourself. Then we went to class and did some group work but 90% was him lecturing and we sat there. There was no powerpoint to look at.
It took a long time to get scores feedback on homework completed. The midterm was expected to be like the previous papers but you did not get feedback until the day the midterm paper was due. Difficult to build on old assignments when you don't know if you did a good/bad job. He was quick to respond to emails and reasonable in class and discussions
Don't take this course as an accelerated course! We met 3x a week for 5 weeks as opposed to 15, each class was a weeks worth of stuff. You will be writing a paper or more each class, and large amounts of reading. He's rude and will call out students for flaws infront of class. Said it would be a pape for the final, but changed it to a group project
He was VERY fair on his grading of papers. The condensed summer course didn't allow me time to edit before submission. His feedback was INCREDIBLE & helped me become a better writer. His teaching style forces you to learn! You won't come to class unprepared as his teaching style forces your involvement. Sometimes a bit snippety, but I found funny
Professor Frame is an amazing professor. He is sincere and gives solid feedback on papers. He is also very approachable and can be pretty funny during class (prepare for quite a few jokes). I'd definitely take one of his classes again. Also, be sure to read your textbook when it's assigned. The information learned will be invaluable for tests.
Lectures could use visual aid Very funny Extremely nice, I had a difficult time at home with discrimination/transphobia and was unable to finish a paper on time, so I emailed him about it and he gave me another full week to finish the paper for full points.
Class and lectures are extremely mundane, usually mostly consist of him talking about topics we already read about in the textbook with no powerpoints to look at.
He took over this class, I wouldn't take this class with this prof. He is very rude to the students that don't know the answer, he doesn't have a clear view, homework is confusing, tough grader, lecture heavy VERY heavy, doesn't give feedback or answer emails in time, if you dont answer the question he asks correctly you don't get credit.
You will probably fall asleep in class but you'll make it through. Heavy on dry lectures with lot's of repetitive information. If you did fine in this subject in high school you'll be fine here. Lot's of writing and reading but just pay close attention to what he wants. He's pretty rude but he's nice if you know the info and PARTICIPATE!
Weekly quizzes AND weekly 1-2 page summaries on readings. You don't have to really put that much effort into them to get a good grade, but still time consuming. Tough papers, fair grader. Seems extremely rude when you first meet him, but you get used to his "sense of humor." Only two exams throughout the semester, but they have essay portions.
Frame is a super nice guy but I don't like his teaching methods. Almost every class we read from a book in class and then he calls on people to analyze it. Super boring and I have learned nothing new about US History. I do not recommend taking him for this class. He's pretty funny but most days its boring as can be. He's also a super harsh grader.
Has weekly assignments and online quizzes, but gives helpful feedback. His information during lectures is clear and easy to understand. Tests and paper can be stressful, but not impossible.
Kind and funny professor. I Took a learning community class with him and Anna meek, you will be doing a fair amount of homeworks but its not something too difficult. Hes always willing to help and is very understanding . Also worth mentioning most of the work you're doing is based on your understanding , so there isnt a right or wrong answer.
After looking through the syllabus, the class wasn't right for me. He would introduce a project where you have to do community service for 20 hours, write a paper, and then do a 10 minute presentation. In that class, students teach each other instead of him teaching. I had to withdraw that class due to those reasons.
The course itself wasn't difficult, but his grading style largely affected my grade. He was very particular in what he wanted but wouldn't be very specific in feedback unless you asked specifically about it. The course is mainly talking about historical events and context, with textbooks being used every class. He isn't a bad guy, bad grader.
Professor Frame is a decent guy. He's humorous and makes the classroom a place where students work together. Be ready to do group work. I dislike his teaching but,Nothing he assigns would be a surprise, but he is a harsh grader. His lectures are wordy + time-consuming. You won't get much from them but it is important to show up and speak your mind.
This class was just ridiculous. Never in my life has a history class has been more of a struggle, especially in an introductory level course. I did not enjoy this class at all. The professor is very stubborn about what he wants and cares more about the students' performance. Not everyone is as interested in history as him, only grades his favorites
This class was just ridiculous. Never in my life has a history class has been more of a struggle, especially in an introductory level course. I did not enjoy this class at all.
The worst professor I have had yet. Only cares about correct answers rather than you trying your best. He is very rude in class, creates a hostile environment, and tries too hard to be funny. Be prepared for a lot of reading every week, you need to come to class ready to have discussions on every primary source. Instructions are sometime unclear.
he is nothing like what other people describe him to be on this site. He is very caring and wants you to participate. He looks like he loves teaching and is very knowledgeable on American history. When switching online classes, he made the transition very smooth and gives feedback on EVERYTHING. If you do everything, he will treat you with respect.
He really does care about the students and will give good feedback. Just gotta show up to class and pay attention and you will do fine. Theres a decent amount of reading and a pretty funny guy. I personally felt like I learned a lot about not only history but even writing itself.
I took this class online and was unaware that I needed 3 textbooks (because it was hidden in the syllabus) until late into week 1. I asked if I could make up the work that I was unable to do when I got my textbooks later the following week and he would not allow it. The goal is to help student succeed! Not to fail them! Do not recommend!!!
I took this class online, we had 4 books we needed to buy. He made us do SSA's, Class discussions with two AP's and a quiz every week. Our exams were 4 page essays. He is easily the worst teacher I've ever had. He never tought us anything when we had class and only ever used that time for us to discuss last weeks work. He doesnt care about us.
I loved this class, it was LGBT History. It was a great class taught by a great professor! He was very clear about the things we needed to do and how they needed to be done. He was respectful of students and our ideas, he was engaged with us and the discussions (online, because of COVID). I learned a lot in this class and would def recommend.
Genuinely the worst teacher I've ever had. He supplied a rubric, but never graded off of it. No lectures AT ALL. Everything I "learned" I learned from the textbook. Would get visibly upset with students over zoom, and create an uncomfortable atmosphere due to his temper. Wouldn't accept late work, even with an excuse too. Don't take this class.
There was a decent amount of assignments per week but sometimes he would drop an assignment if he thought it was too much. It takes some time to get used to his requirements but they are very manageable. There were two papers and you get a chance for peer review. Overall, if you do the work it is easy to get an A.
My biggest issue with Frame is that he does not enter grades or give feedback in a timely manner; most assignments took him over a month to grade! He showed some flexibility, but he does not accept late work. LOTS OF READING! Instructions for assignments are sometimes unclear and I think his expectations are too high. I'd take someone else.
Robert Frame made history fun, which is hard to do. A decent amount of work in the class, but if you participate and use the resources given, it is an easy A. Would definitely take the class again
History can be a nightmare but Frame makes it enjoyable. You'll read a lot because that's where the information is, in the text book. You'll get great writing feedback from him. See him during office hours and you'll learn so much more. He loves talking but that's his job.
He has a lot of knowledge and I like that his course focussed a lot on groups that have been so often forgotten or parts of history glossed over in the past. He brings in a lot of great resources and grades fairly. For my class there was a lot of writing and quizzes were pretty specific and could be difficult, but not overly difficult.
Nice teacher, long lectures, lots of reading expected but every test or essay is easy because he gives Clear instructions and well prepared
I see why a lot of students in my class were not too fond of Professor Frame. He expects quality work and respect from students; he was not happy when students were late or when participation was low. Yet, he was a leader. Pushing students to analyze history themselves. He is willing to help any student, he ensures that all students are learning.
You pretty much do the same thing every day. read a million pages and then have to write an essay about it. He is a super tough grader and will not budge on anything. His communication clarity is also horrible. My fellow classmates and I never knew what was due and when. I do not recommend taking this professor.
Overall great teacher, you can tell he cares about his job. I had no problem getting an A, just do the work and pay attention in class. Lectures are a little long but not too bad. He is a little pretentious in the way he talks but that's okay, he is very knowledgeable on history.
This class has a lot of homework and readings. 3 discussion posts a week, usually with a SSA or quiz. The textbook chapters are long and there are many primary sources. There are a total of 3 essays, be sure to explain throughly and cite where you got your info from. If you decide to take this teacher, be prepared to read and think long and hard.
By all means, do not take this teacher. It is not worth it, this class is hard and teacher has a very stand off attitude. He isnt the kindest nor understanding, youre better off taking someone else.
Robert Frame is the worst professor I have ever had. His assignments are super long which is fine but he doesn't do any teaching. It is all reading from a textbook. He will literally be mean in his feedback and he is just an overall HORRIBLE professor. DO NOT take his course!!!!!!!
The in person portion of the class was VERY lecture heavy. They were super boring and Frame tends to go over things that he said in the last class. I would usually just take notes on the assigned chapter for the week during this time. One discussion due (post and reply) and a quiz (online) due each week. A few SSAs, 1 essay, and 2 exams.
I took this class in 2019 when I was a high schooler doing PSEO, & it honestly isn't that hard if you put at least some effort into the class. Prof Frame is very clear about what he expects & even gives you an exam study guide. Spend a few hours outside of class & you'll pass with an A. Do the practice problems, it's exactly what's on the exam!!
Honestly just show to class on time and do the online work and you will get a good grade. Assignments were not necessarily hard as everything was open textbook and it was relatively easy to find answers. Professor Frame was also super nice and helpful whenever I needed help! He lectures a lot, but the lectures are important and you learn a lot.
Frame was nice and cared about our learning. I didn't understand his instructions from the start and he didn't explain things clearly. Around the end of the semester, I was able to understand his instructions by looking at examples, and comparing my first assignments that I didn't do well on to the examples. He also did discuss with me to help me.
Took USH1 hybrid, one 5 page essay, 2 written exams, 5 short quizzes, but most your grade is in weekly discussion posts (1 paragraph) grading is lenient. easy a if you turn everything in, need to do a fair amount of reading though. frame is super nice, taking USH2 this year. he takes attendance but it doesnt rly mean anything, no phones in class.
prof frame is great!! in us1, your grade is based of source summary and analysis assignments, quizzes, weekly discussion posts, and 3 essays (midterm, slavery, final). he often drops the source assignments if he feels like people need a break or just for the fun of it for thanksgiving break or whatever. he's great, would def take again!
Super passionate about LGBT history, but this class is NOT an easy A. He's great with assignment feedback and responds to emails quickly. 3 discussion posts per week + you have to read everyone else's posts. Discussions were interesting, but can be difficult. Coursework has both quality and quantity - do not fall behind!
Professor Frame's instructions were just a little confusing for a lot of the assignments or discussions. He would answer his emails pretty fast and would try to help clear up the instructions that where confusing to me when needed. But besides that he was a pretty good professor and I would take a class of his again.
This class is ridiculously hard for being a level 1 history class. His instructions rarely make sense as he tends to be extremely vague and then he will harshly grade you on every little thing. He tells you to look at his feedback and learn from that, but it is very hard to do so because he is a very slow grader. DO NOT TAKE.
Professor Frame was an amazing professor, he will respond and is very helpful however grading is strict, you may not understand his directions at first but will eventually. There is a lot of reading out of the American Yawp and other sources which are very informative listening to an audio version helped a lot. u will do 2 discussion post a week.
Not very strict with dates, IF you tell him ahead of time for an extension. This class is really easy, just do the readings and discussions required and you're good to go. I only had to do 2 essays overall, BUT all the readings from beforehand help with the prompts given. Would recommend it to PSEO students and take notes!
Professor Frame could be very intense. Lots of discussions in class that felt more like lecture because he talked through most of it. Lots of reading, 5 1-page papers, 1 or 2 chapters from American Yawp weekly, as well as an essay + final essay (the 2 essays themselves made up like 40% of the total grade). Was a nice guy but not a great professor
I'm a PSEO student and took this class for my history requirement. His classes while informative are also a bit of a snooze fest, mostly 1-2 hours of just talking with little to no engagement with the class during lectures. He did some activities to help with content knowledge which was good, and he gave great feedback.
He provided a very clear outline of what to do each week and when it was due, but the sheer amount of work was unbearable. Compared to an AP class, this was twice as worse and I started to drop grades in all my other classes because of how often I was trying to get an A in this one.
There's a few papers but LOTS of discussions. He is an average grader, follow the instructions and you will be fine. With my class, he took off a bigger essay and changed the final points from 50 to 20. I haven't had any personal connection with the guy but he seems so understanding and nice and I get the feeling he genuinely cares about you.
Before the semester began I heard that he gives a lot of work. But at one point he had us: - Reading a very long chapter (like ~2 hours) - Read a bunch of primary sources - Work on our final essays - Write a discussion post - Read ALL of our classmates' posts - Respond to one of our classmates' posts all in the same week. Not fun.
Professor Frame is an outstanding instructor who excels in clarity and feedback. His grading criteria are straightforward, ensuring students know exactly what's expected. He provides detailed, constructive feedback on assignments, helping students improve. I would 100% recommend a class with professor Frame for positive learning experience.
Professor Frame runs a structured class, but engaging with the system pays off. Textbook readings and discussion posts are key, and Unstuckstudy can help streamline study prep. Overall a solid course.
do NAWT take him! VERYY strict grader.
He's so condescending, I hate asking him questions. But the work is not hard and it's easy to do well in the class. The textbook chapters are long though.
