His video lectures are very useful and not longer than 24 minutes. He is easy to contact on campus-wire if you need help. Two Concepts Review test. Gives study guides and if you do the study guides you will get a good grade. Homework is due Fridays every week but only 11 questions and you have all week and the lecture videos help you answer them.

I took Furrow with Gerhart-Barley for BIS2B. Long lectures but easy quizzes and midterm. If you absorb information well through listening this class will be easy, I never used the textbook once. Listen to the lectures, do the study guide, take quizzes and tests, and that's an A.

Furrow was a good professor. For me, his style was a lot more slower, which was good since he taught the evolution part of the class, which could be confusing. He had a lot of examples and answered questions during office hours. He was very active on CampusWire and answered our questions. He also had study guides, which definitely helped

I think Rob is actually a really great teacher. I could learn easily from his lecturing and thought he was also really good at answering any follow up questions students had in OH or on Campuswire. I took him with Laci Gerhart-Barley and they were both super accessible outside of class and also just really nice people! I would recommend him!

I took Rob and Laci together during Fall Quarter 2020. They worked really well together! Rob was very quick at responding to questions, holding office hours, and being active on Campuswire! His portions of the lectures had harder content in my opinion, but as long as you watch lectures carefully, it'll be a breeze. 2 midterms, 1 final, hw, labs!

BIS 2B is a five unit class and Rob made it tolerable. He provided TONS of practice quesions for the test which were very helpful and reponded very quickly. Prof Rob was very helpful when I reached out for help. He made sure that I understood the material. Make sure to study the study guids well and attend office hours.

Prof Rob's lectures can be boring and not very thorough in explaining some concepts. Although he's very knowledgeable in his field, he doesn't have much experience teaching students. However, he's very caring of his students and easily accessible if you need help. As long as you do the practice problems and contact him, you'll do fine!

Had 0 experience with Biology beyond 9th grade. General tips: Textbook not needed, HW + Study guides are useful. Teacher: Furrow was good overall knew his material and was easy to contact at all times. This class is not a handout (no curving, average midterms C-) Watch lectures as soon as possible to understand the concepts (many things relate).

His lectures weren't incredibly interesting and not everything was given on the slides but still an amazing professor. Not a crazy hard class.

Why his score is only 3.1? He is fully deserved at least a 4. Step-by-step presentation of materials, understandable, and finish all slides just on time. Much better than Susan Keen.

He was very good. Some explanations in the lecture were confusing but were later explained in more detail. I took with Gerhart-Barley. Tests were aligned with homework. Lots of examples to help you understand.

His classes were places for students to escape Susan Keen's mess. Coming from WFC, his lectures were amazingly clear. Slides had just right amount of information. Love his lectures. Put it to 4, not in the range of 3.

Incredibly clear and concise. I would recommend him if you are taking Bis2B, even if he is with another professor. There were times where it could be difficult understanding the material, but not his fault.

Furrow's lectures were great and clear. He answered questions quickly and clearly. Taking AP does not give you the right to complain. Without AP Bio and Envi Science, you can still get A in his class. Hope his score can be raised to 4 out of 5.

Dr furrow is really passionate about the topics he is explaining. He explains in a very clear and comprehensible way. He replies fast and gives very helpful feedback on the Campus wire (the discussion board for questions). Go to office hours!! They are helpful!! Study the study guides and you will be fine. This class was really hard for me and even though I got an A, I still really had to work for it. Doesnt matter if youve taken APES or AP Bio, if you study you can still do good but its hard :( The homeworks were really unfair in my opinion too. My tip is to focus on the learning goals and Examples in lecture.

Prof Furrow was amazing! His lectures were concise and informative; the material discussed in class reflected exam questions very well. He responds promptly through Campuswire and email, so it was easy to discuss potential concerns, exam format, etc. Extra credit was offered in each midterm and the final, it was a very achievable A. Solid Prof.

Took Winter 2021 During COVID (taught alongside Prof Keen) Professor Furrow has amazing lectures. He is very good at breaking down complex topics. He always responded to my e-mails within 30 minutes regardless of the time I sent them. He was very accommodating during the pandemic, and I would highly recommend taking a course with him if you can.

Loved having Prof Furrow! His lectures are easy to follow and well explained; the material was well reflected within exams. He is very caring of his students and quickly responds to questions. Focusing on the learning goals will help you greatly!

Prof. Furrow did great at lecturing and explaining complex concepts. He doesn't making anyone feel bad for asking questions and answers them in a way that makes sense. The only con are his lecture slides, he tends to mainly say the information out loud which required a lot of annotation on slides but it's not a huge deal bc it I grasped the info.

Professor Furrow is an amazing lecturer and is good at clarifying the topics that Keen lectures (badly) about. The midterms are not bad, except the first one which had too many short answer questions. The lecture slides correlate directly with the exam questions so if you just review them before, you will do fairly well. The labs are also fun!

I loved Prof Furrow. As someone w/ accommodations i found him super accommodating and he lets you retake quizzes and turn in anything w/in 12 hours with no grade drop. He was also super approachable and i found his lectures engaging and easy to understand. He kept my focus which is rare haha. One of my fav professors!!

Lectures were clear and to the point. The questions in the slides helped to understand the concepts better. Midterms weren't too bad; took it with Furrow and Keen and they allow an index card for all exams. Do the practice exams, they're useful.

He has very clearly structured lectures. Very easy to follow and understand. Beware that he might teach with another professor though. Don’t recommend if the other professor is Keen. She’s extremely hard to follow during lectures.

Professor Furrow was just sort of an advisor since there were guest lecturers most weeks. Labs were not long and straightforward. He was very understanding of students' situations. Gave good feedback on assignments and answered all questions to the best of his ability. If he couldn't answer your question he'd send you to someone who could.

Decent Lectures (recorded), awesome vibe for each class. The early pre labs are kind of annoying and hard, but they get a lot easier later on. I got a very nice TA, so your lab experience may vary. I did very minimal studying (attended lectures and studied couple hours before exam).

He is super nice, and caring and the overall class was pretty easy. Based on a point system but the material was easy to understand. The exams were pretty easy as well. Can slack but still study. Very fun class as well.

Had him for both WFC 50 and BIS 2B and he was very flexible and actually cared about students and their needs. Has a rather engaging lecture style and seems to try to make it so. Has a pretty nice curve in BIS 2B and once in WFC 50 granted everyone an extension because it was requested/given to a few people. A professor that wants you to succeed.

I was worried about taking bio but he was a great professor. I just used his posted slides and paid attention in lecture and I didn't really need to study to do well on tests as he laid out info and gave good practice tests. There is a textbook but I never looked at it. Would highly recommend him as a professor.

I took Prof. Furrow for Winter 22-23 and he is by far an amazing lecturer. He breaks down biological concepts very well and includes many examples in his discussions, all of which prepare you for the midterms and final. He is also very accommodating and responds to emails fairly fast.

This class was AMAZING! If you are interested in animals or environmental science this is definitely an easy, fun class for you. Effort is needed when it comes to projects, studying, and taking notes during lecture so its not effortlessly easy, however, putting in some time gets you pretty far. Lab is super interesting, grading depends on TAs.

WFC 50 is an awesome course and Furrow is great. The writing component was a little heavy for it being a 3 unit course but the tests were not very difficult and he gives you all the resources you need to succeed. Labs were great and so were the guest speakers. Take this course, its great.

I always enjoyed attending Dr. Furrow's BIS2B lectures! His passion for ecology and conservation amidst climate change really shows in his lectures, and he is incredibly knowledgable during office hours. Would highly recommend taking him for this class!

Great lectures. Class was a bit harder than expected (maybe bc I hadn't taken a biology class in 6 years). Midterms and final were somewhat similar to study guides. Class covers LOTS of concepts but the concepts aren't super difficult. Lab practical was extremely similar to the in person practice lab practical. Last minute cramming not recommended.

Dr. Furrow is the absolute best. His lectures are clear very engaging. He's attentive and makes time for questions. He provides study guides for each unit and practice midterms (which are very similar to the actual exam). His exams are very simple if you study. He had a textbook, but I didn't read it. If you get the chance to take him, DO IT.

Furrow is a great lecturer, you can tell he likes biology. His grading standards are very clear: no curve and he's on a strict 500 point scale. His exams are similar to the practice exams he gives out; there was generally no surprises on the exams. He responds to emails quickly and has in-person office hours which is nice.

Rob was a good teacher. No curve so that was tough, but he is a pretty decent lecturer. Not a hard class to pass but beware of lab practical at the end of the year.

After midterm 1 there is ALOT of content that can be hard to grasp which hurt my grade, so take advantage of midterm 1. Final was fair, no curve, but watch out for the lab practical at the end.

I took Furrow Fall Quarter 2024. He's a very good lecturer &very kind & passionate about ecology, especially birds. Hardest part of this class is the pre- and post- labs. Exams are easy if you prepare, if you don't study, say your prayers. Attendance doesn't matter for lecture (does for lab) but if you skip watch the recording. Not a curved class.

only got a C- cuz i went to Europe for a week. Midterms were nice similar to practice and got a 70% on the final. Lab is difficult but with a lot of effort it is easy. Study hard don't procrastinate and i promise u that u can get an A/B. Wish i studied harder and put in more effort could've gotten such a better grade :/

my actual GOAT. literally the best prof I've had at Davis, his lectures are really well organized and he's very clear on what you have to know. honestly if you pay attention in lecture the exams should be relatively easy. MT 2 was harder but doable. not a curved class.

Lectures were fun and engaging. Lab and discussion grades depends on how strict your TA is. Unfortunately, I had a tough grader for discussion, so my grade is a letter lower if I had an easier grader.

Loved the way his lectures were structured. Overall easy class, but no curve and strict on deadlines. Also pray that you have a good TA bc they grade hella harsh sometimes. But other than that, it was great.

the GOAT. he was always very caring and clear about what he needed us to know for the midterms. just study the terms and how they can be applied before the midterms and you should be fine! TA's can be strict (specifically discussion TA about being on time) but he drops the lowest discussion score so its fine. highly recommend

Furrow is such a kind and caring professor! He always makes times for students to ask questions, which he answers very well. The class itself is about as you'd expect for a stem class. It's not a weeder class, but there is no curve so it's important to put in the effort! I took this class along with 2 other stem classes and a ge and still got an A!

Straightforward class and prof. Lectures are super boring but straightforward. Nothing is weighted, class isn't curved, but it should be easy to get a good grade in the class as long as you keep up with the material. Lab difficulty just depends on your TA, I had a lenient TA so I always left early and got full points on almost all assignments.

Dr. Rob is super awesome!!! His midterms/final reflect exactly what is discussed in lecture. I didn't need to study as much because his lectures were actually helpful. He also makes the study guides harder than the actual midterm, and that really helped me with understanding the concepts.

Helpful practice exams and study guides. Dr. Rob is very kind and accessible if you go during office hours. Lab assignments are fairly simple, heavy on Excel, but depend on the lab TA. Discussions also depend on the TA but are generally very straightforward. Would definitely take Dr. Rob again if he taught subjects I needed.
