He is a Great teacher if you want to learn think and expand. If you choose otherwise, find another professor.

Mr. Furstoss has an excellent command of the English language. His speaking rate is relaxed (some might say a bit slow), yet elegant in diction and excellent in paraphrase. A philosophical man with an English reserve in manners. Penetrating essay critic.

All he talks about is Thailand and how he met his wife over there and it is great. Plus he is against all wars, so if you write a paper about war, he will automatically fail you. If you want to take him, go ahead, but beware......

Intro to comm. was a breeze! All we did was write like 4 lousy essays i got an A!!

I thought he was an awesome teacher... he was very helpful and will let you slide if your late. A little crazy, but anything is better than Dr.Byrne!. I got A's in english 1 & 2 and im not a good english student. Everything in his class is common sense.

I acually enjoyed taking his class. He is very political and likes to talk a lot about it. The class itself (besides politics) was fun, you just need to show up and take half-way decent notes. Others in my class didnt like him but I enjoyed it!

I don't know what these other reviews are about. My fondest memories of OCC are in Prof. Furstoss's class. Don't expect literature. Focus on current events and news articles. If you have any interest in politics or current affairs, you while enjoy his class.

Furstoss is...well, Furstoss. Honestly-don't take this class if you can't write papers very well. He wants "deep" answers for everything and overanalyzes from every angle. If you can BS well and write good papers and be (or pretend to be) interested in his political rantings, you'll do well in this class. Took his class online - got an A. Very helpful in weekly chats, nice enough guy it seems. Not easy, but not hard either - just do the work. My only complaint is that i didnt get ONE grade through out the course sent back to me - the only grade i got was for the semester.. that's a little annoying, but otherwise.. i would take him again.

I took INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION class with Prof. Furstoss. He is very knowlegable and intelligent. He speaks about issues related to the present time. We wrote about 4 essays. The only downside is we didn't get our papers back until the end of the semester. If you want to learn tak him!

I learned so much in this class. He really knows his stuff, but is a tough grader. He reviewed our essays one-on-one, discussing strengths and weaknesses, which I got a lot out of. However, He is EXTREMELY politically charged. No room for different opinions. Lots of Bush Bashing... thumbs DOWN!

He's a decent teacher and is very articulate. Likes to talk about current events and politics. I had him fall '06 and we had only had 1 quiz and 1 essay, which he has yet to give back to us. He seems to actually know his stuff and sometimes the class is even funny.

ummm... nice guy and helps go over work one-on-one. it seemed lik all we talked about was POLITICS POLITICS POLITICS! and i have never been into that. on top of that hes very anti- pres. bush.... if u cant stand politics like me or if you like pres. bush like me... the i suggest you DONT take the class

I thought his class was very interesting. He is a bit of a tough grader but i managed to pull an A out of it. Very nice guy. All politics and many people complain that there is no room for an opinion different than his. But! there is, if your will is strong enough to stand up for your opinion. If not, then you will not enjoy this class.

He really wasn't that bad. He is really tough. But we read several short stories that were actually interesting and one novel that he actually let us explore on our own instead of him beating it death. He expects you to write as if your a 2nd yr college student and not a hs jr if you can't do that then take someone that doesn't care about their job

I took his online class. It wasnt that bad. Theres a paper due every monday around 600 words each. Requires some reading. You need the book at some points but not really that much. More online articles then anything. It wasnt too difficult

I took him online and loved him. Maybe if you are confused about how you did poorly in an English class you could start by looking up the definition of coherent in the dictionary...thats the big book of words.

waste of time and money. take a politics course before thinking about taking any classes furstoss teaches.

This is the 2nd online class i've taken with him. The assignments were political but that's part of our culture so it made sense. I learned alot about otehr cultures through this class as well. Papers were all about 600 words.

All in all, Professor Furstoss's class was fair. Throughout the semester he cancelled class 5 times, showed up late sometimes but always ended class on time. No tests, no quizzes, no homework, just 4 essays that he varied from 500-1000 words each. You will need to buy the book to use it for the essays along with the many handouts he gives.

Bob Furstoss is a fine instructor. He strives for clarity in both premise and composition. If you can meet his standards, you will be well served as you move on to larger institutions.

Really smart guy, a pleasure to listen to. Classes were extremely thought provoking. DO not take this class if you are not comfortable with your writing skills. grade is based only on papers. I found myself getting lost in my own brain because the topics were really interesting. Talk a lot about politics, philosophy.

Have to admit with a previous post. I learned a lot in his class, not only does he talk about proper ways of writing an essay but also talks about current issues, makes you think, use your brain.If you're not interested in anything, don't want to do the work and want to text the whole time-go back to high school

He began the English II course as an enthusiastic and prominant scholarly professor. His teaching style is confusing and although I enjoyed many of his class discussions he definetly graded on a curve. I began working very hard in his class and ended his by not showing up and not completing the final two essays and still pulled out the B.

Honestly, if you don't really love politics then do not take this professor. He's a great teacher and a very interesting man, but every single topic was some form of politics that we had to analyze and write about. He's fair and lenient and always has a story to tell. Sometimes class is boring...but it's class it's supposed to be.

Although he would bog down a single paragraph with too much interpretation and subtext, he was generally an amazing professor. He actually makes you think. Essays were easy, quizzes were a pain, but you can maintain a C/B in his class if you're good at analysis of literature. Yes, you need to be able to put together a decent essay for this class.

I thought Furstoss was a genuinely good professor. We're in college and this man takes it to the next level of learning from high school. His wide range and appreciation for language was impressive, so your brain didn't rot during his lecture if you paid attention. His quizzes are so easy just as long as you read what he assigned. And as for his essays, they are lengthly topics, however all you have to do is break it down and read it over and you'll be fine. Great and intriguing professor.

Prof. Furstoss is a shining example of what a college professor should be. He is accessible, available and more than willing to help you through what you do not understand. What struck me about him, however, was in the midst of his obvious brilliance, he is a humble man. Take his class, you'll be a better THINKER if you do!

This Professor does not deserve the low rating he has. He is an incredibly intelligent man and you can tell he really values and cherishes language. I was able to easily get an A in his course, as well as my sister and a friend. He will make you write, but it is a writing course after all. Excellent professor.

He really deserves much better ratings than he has. He is extremely intelligent and meticulous, and cares so much about his profession. He is extremely helpful and friendly. He is perhaps the best teacher I've ever had. Anyone who dislikes him probably isn't intelligent enough to take his course.

Prof. Furstoss is an excellent English teacher. He'll make you a better writer. I don't think I would have been as prepared for my BA program if it wasn't for him. I think the negative comments are from people who don't realize how important English is if you want to succeed in college. Anyway, if you care about growing as a writer, take him.

One of the best teachers ever! he may be boring at times but when he keeps you up its a really interesting class. Essays are sometimes confusing but he is a easy grader so don't worry. He is also charming and funny. :)

A great English teacher, very insightful, inquiring and caring about his students. He takes FOREVER to give you your (required) feedback on assignments, but once you get it, it is very helpful. In a nutshell: You'll probably get an A if you take his class, but not because he's a pushover, but because you deserve it.

Furstoss teaches students how to open their eyes and notice the injustices going on in the world while still tying this in with the reading and assignments. Very great teacher. This was the most useful class i have ever taken.

Professor Furstoss is an amazing individual. His choice material in the class is quite unique, but all really good subject matters. He is quite insightful, and every sentence he said sounded like it could be straight out of a well written novel. Great Teacher so far, I'm taking his course now and his vocabulary is genius level. He makes me want to look up new words and explore deep meanings within the writings. I almost withdrew because of the negative comments, but I'm glad i didn't judge a book by its cover. Take him...You will actually learn something.

Professor Furstoss is one of the best professors that I have encountered at Ocean County College. He isn't an "easy" professor and don't take his class if you want to slack off and receive an A. He helped me become a better writer and I always looked forward to his class. I wish I could have had more than two classes with him!

I actually really wound up liking him in the end. at tiems, he can come off arrogant but you just have to be confident with your answers right back to him! let him know that your answers are worth it too! he's not the only one to be heard.pretty lienient though.quiz questions weren't so great. a bit misleading and tricky. but, honestly not bad guy

Took Fursoss for both English 1&2 , he's really a great professor. Is understandable & takes his time with the class doesn't rush assignments if important things occur. Don't think this makes him an Easy teacher cuz he's not!! He expects the best out of his students & if you want an A you need to complete all his assignments!

He lectures all of class but expects participation. Some classes were pretty boring and he is strange but there were some classes that I thoroughly enjoyed. I also liked his use of language. We don't have too many assignments, he will help you improve your writing though. Overall I recommend him if you plan on learning. just b prepared to write.

One of the best teachers at OCC, his teaching style is a bit too advanced for some students, however I don't have English as my first language and I was still able to understand every word he said. I also remember how he makes things sounds a lot more interesting. He is definitely an inspiring teacher, A MUST TAKE!

great guy when he actually shows up. Which is not often. ended up getting a new teacher due to his absences. Don't need text book which is a money saver! Just short stories and plenty of time to write papers which we only had about 2 anyway. homework was to read and quiz on what we read the next class. Lots of class discussions and debates. EASY!

He is a very good professor, gives you tons of extra time on assignments and has very flexible due dates. Doesn't take off points for late assignments either. For some, his syntax is too hard to understand, but if you're not an illiterate idiot he is excellent!

He's an intelligent guy and very entertaining. You can tell he's the kind of person that loves what he does. A few quizzes and tons of time to do assignments. Only issue I have is that he's extremely slow when it comes grading.

Prof. Furstoss has a broad vocabulary, using language that is deliberate and precise. To some his lectures may seem tedious, but, personally, I absolutely loved listening him. Be prepared to think critically and to articulate those thoughts both verbally and in writing. Insightful, open-minded, experienced, and loves feedback in group discussions.

I loved Professor Furstoss' class and I'd definitely take him again. He made you think outside of the box and changed the way we thought. I took a lot out of the class actually. There are some reading quizzes about articles, but we never had to actually read a book thankfully. He's an interesting guy with a lot of knowledge in what he teaches.
