If you see his name on the course calendar, run in the opposite direction. He is the hardest prof in terms of tests- even the TAs feel bad for the students. Even if you have a genuine interest in economics, prepare for that to end as the tests and problem sets are brutally discouraging. Unless you're a genius, take ECO105 if you value your soul.
In an already demanding subject he adds another element of difficulty in his tests. Knowing the material will not help once you see his test questions. He should teach test-taking, if anything, probably shouldn't even be teaching. He will ruin your academic hopes if you are a first-year. DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSES.
His slides are difficult to understand if you don't listen carefully in his class and never ask him questions. He is willing to answer you questions. He bell curved his tests. His Mcs are hard but his short answer questions are easy. Just make sure you know everything on the slide, know the intuition and do well on problem sets.
The average mark of each test is about 45% (there are 1000 students in one class), and professor curves about 15-18% EACH TIME EXCEPT FINAL!!!! So if you are a top student and get 70%, you will win. If you are a normal student and only can get 50%, you will get only 65% after curving.
His tests are insanely difficult and trick you as much as possible. Several students have failed his class and take it again and again. Stay very clear of him, he will ruin your experience unless your ready to give your life in studying for the class. DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE unless you like failing and b.s.
It is recommended that your guys take his ECO100 summer session.
Very underrated prof.
Fisrst thing, he is always jumping in class. Second, he makes simple economic terms seem confusing. Third, he takes quizzes and MARKS THEM even before teaching that particular chapter!! Fourth, His exams are SUPER TOUGH. I HATE HIM! WARNING: DON'T TAKE HIS SECTION!!
Had to retake this course in summer, though I had a different prof during the year. Underrated prof for sure. Lectures may not be fun, but definitely gets the point across. Easy prof to talk to and re-explains confusing parts well. Most people probably give him bad ratings b/c they're lazy and won't look at the readings before the weekly quizzes.
Makes economic concepts more difficult than they need to be. Using the textbook is basically useless. Tests are full of trick questions.
tests are just brutal. Each term test`s average is around 45%. If you aren`t super genious, you won`t be able to major/minor in economics.
First off, I don't know why it says his class average is a B+ because it's not even a C... This man makes you bleed for the passing grade, like you really need to dedicate your life to economics to pass. I'm sure he is a very smart guy and maybe he is very nice and helpful in his office hours but he's horrible at explaining concepts.
Textbook and lecture slides do not reflect the test questions at all. It's as if the test questions are pulled out of a graduate-level course.
Has a peculiar way of explaining concepts. Tries to be witty and ends up making simple concepts confusing. Loves counter-intuitive questions that trick students (actually pumps his fist when he tricks you!) Studying the textbook is ineffective and his lectures are confusing. Very Difficult Prof
worst prof. ever.
He is honestly such a helpful professor. Most first year profs who teach big classes are not helpful, whereas Prof. G is always, always willing to help. His tests are honestly NOT as hard as people say, as long as you do the work, attend lectures, and do thoroughly understand the problem sets.
Great Prof! Honestly, you should have no problem with this class if you do your share of practice questions and follow in class as he explains his slides. The slides/handouts are clear and helpful, and Gazzale is entertaining. He bell curves his tests up by 10-15%. I suggest practicing past exam questions over and over to overcome Gazzale's tricks!
Sometimes the questions he gives you on the lectures won't even reflect the questions on his tests
Definitely an underrated professor. To all first years, his tests are a real kick in the teeth. He's a real eye-opener to how tests actually go. Study, and it'll be worth your while! An extremely interactive and approachable prof.
Pay attention to his examples in lecture, he puts it on the test.
Prof G. is one of the best teachers I have ever had! he was extremely helpful when I went to his office hours and further helped me beyond his office hours. His tests are EXTREMELY difficult... only if you never do his problem sets. Honestly, a student who tries hard and understands his concepts is guaranteed a good grade.
I did not understand his class at all. HIs tests are just so hard. Every time I asked his test question to others, they were always surprised that why his test was so hard, and some of the material were beyond first year level. Really didn't like his class
Tests/Exams are so far from the material taught in class and the textbook.
My least favourite class and professor of first year. I did not find his lectures or explanations to be clear- in fact, it seemed that he complicated many concepts and made them much harder to understand. If possible, I would avoid this professor because his section is MUCH harder than that of other professors.
good!!! love him so much!!
Before I took this course I didn't know a dime about economics, now I'm heading into a specialist program. Don't expect him to make things easy, people tend to struggle in his class. But if you manage to keep pace with him your second year classes will be a joke. I had easy 4.0s in eco206, eco208 without going to any lectures thanks to him.
"Hard to get, but I like."
bad: extremely difficult tests good thing: always willing to help, answer emails, and curves the tests grades up 15%. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF NOT WILLING TO WORK ALMOST EVERY DAY FOR HIS COURSE.
Really tough professor, but an amazing teacher. If you don't do your work, you will probably fail. If you keep up to date with his readings and pay attention, you will do very well. Super funny and entertaining too!
Unnecessarily difficult and dense for a first year economics class. Right off the bat he'll tell you that he speaks really quickly. That's not exactly true, but for teaching purposes the pace is indeed too fast.
tough professor teach tough class and make tough test
If you have this Prof for first year Economics, your life is just done. His tests are really difficult and this is coming from a math student good at Calc. Compared to previous test papers, his tests really get harder and harder.. Don't see the point of going to his class because he just briefly explains the concept.
Quizzes, tutorial problems& homework are extremely easy. However the term tests are nightmares. Too many long answer, multiple choice and TFU questions. Not only are the the questions extremely difficult, but the amount of time given is way too short to answer! His lectures are also way simpler than the textbook, and the help sessions are useless.
Great lectures, places too much focus on poor performing TAs. Don't recommend taking with a full course load.
won't take again
He curves up a lots
tests are hard but bell curves are even bigger. His examples in class really help your understanding. Only people complaining are the ones not doing the reading. Wait until eco204...
I don't get why some people are saying that he is quite manageable because his tests are so hard. Go to other sections; they are much better. Terrible first year experience for many people.. Note: He never bell curves finals, so don't think that bell curving for tests will help a lot in the semesters.
lack of explaining on problems by topics
good prof
Whoever who reads this will think I have exaggerated because of seemingly the professor is lowly rated. But take it from me, if you want marks and to actually feel like economics knowledge is like one basic need for all human beings, take his class. The Professor is indescribable using mere words. Take his class see it for yourself.
Going to class is pointless - he wastes too much time on the easy stuff. He then brushes past the difficult material in a span of a few seconds.
Jokes guy, and pretty charismatic. Will get you to laugh at least once a class. Tests are a bit tough but he's really bro about posting old tests with solutions as well as practice problem sets with solutions.
Gazzale's lectures can be a bit dull, but he uses many examples and tells the odd joke. His tests are difficult so get ready for trick questions, but if you take the time to understand it then he is a good teacher. Do your quizzes and homework online will make sure that you don't fall too far behind in class.
great prof!!!
I think the professor was amazing and I went to him in my first week to ask how I could pass the course and I literally went to him twice a month since then. Guess what, I aced the course. He is just amazing.
I got Gazzale for ECO100 2014-2015. His exams and tests are extremely hard you have to really know what you're doing but with this being said he curves his grades to make the average 64 if its under (in my year he curved it by 8,10 and last test 0%). You have to use all his problem sets and exams to do well.
Great prof! Just make sure you go over all his problem sets and tutorials before the tests.
I have to be honest that I have mixed feelings about this prof. In the beginning, I was getting mediocre grades in ECO100 and was about to drop out for summer school, but I held on and studied all problem sets and tests and ended up with up 80. You really have TO STUDY and INVEST YOUR TIME in this course under GAZZALE, because his tests SO HARD
great guy, always willing to help. Nevertheless, make sure you have your lube when walking into one of his tests.
Love his teaching style.
His tests are really tough, but overall, my experience in that course was not that bad. His lectures are pretty interesting, and he is pretty willing to answer all your questions.
Gazzale made this class exceptionally difficult for an introductory economics class (ECO100). His tests were definitely much harder than the material learned in class or in tutorial. He also contradicted himself in teaching material which made the principles extremely difficult to understand.
He is really into what he teaches and makes sure you understand something if you ask questions. His grading (of term papers, mid terms and finals) is strict. At the same time, he also gives very intensive guidelines (you'll know when you see it) for all assignmentsexams. Overall my experience with the course was great - would take again!
I had prof. Gazzale for three years, I also had other profs, but I think he is the best. Yes, his tests are tough, but you will learn a lot. Eco331 Behavioral economics is really the best course ever, even though there is a lot of readings, the materials are fun and interesting. Overall, if you want a high mark, you need to work hard.
He says "right" way too much in his lectures, its super distractive and annoying. He also is terrible at explaining things properly. He also part takes in fraudulent acts, he forces you to buy a subscription to moblab which he is employed by. This is fraudulent because it is deception for financial/personal gain. Someone needs to report this.
If you're coming to Rotman Commerce, SAVE YOURSELF AND DO NOT JOIN HIS CLASS. His explanations are terrible and you don't understand anything in lecture. His questions are ridiculous and you're better off somewhere else.
Great Professor
I went into his class very scared because of all the reviews I had read about him. Honestly he is a great prof, sometimes confusing to understand his lectures, but if you do his solved problems and past tests you will do well in this class.
If you're an incoming Rotman Commerce student, heed the warnings. Definitely a really hard course even if you did AP or IB econ. Lectures are really difficult to understand and he over complicates alot of the material. Read the textbook, do the problem questions and past tests and hope for the best. THIS IS NOT A WALKOVER CLASS.
Right?
I LOVE THIS GUY SOOO MUCH! I was honestly so scared for eco100 and I had the opportunity to take it with another prof but decided to take the risk because I loved his teaching style!
Very engaging lecturer. If you pay attention in class and take good notes you don't need to do much work to do well on the tests. Very good at explaining the concepts and showing real world applications.
1)Difficult in comparison to the other profs, but this is because he respects his students enough to challenge them. 2) designs his test to reward understanding over memorization 3) heavy self-teaching for 1st year lOVE THIS MAN! I'm a procrastinator and his intense workload made me develop time management. I will take any class he teaches!
Consensus from all ECO100 students: Hardest eco100 prof. I would consider the textbook optional. He is more math based than other profs. You will NOT get by by knowing the basics, you really have to do HIS type of questions on Blackboard (the textbook only teaches you the basics). ECO100 w/ 67% req. is separating into ECO101/102 w/63% req. Lucky u
he is so brilliant. I mean his lecture is fun but I just cant help sleeping because I chose the section btw 12 to 1pm. his lecture notes are clear but if you don't attend the lecture, it would be hard to catch on. Important! you'd better finish every problem solved and multiple choice each chapter to understand better and achieve higher grades.
He was great
I was nervous about ECO100 after reading reviews about Prof Gazzale. He does have tough exams but he is an absolutely excellent teacher. You will learn so much about economics by taking his course. Best prof I have had up to this point in my UofT career. Do your homework, go to lectures, review past tests and you will be more than fine!
The truth is, the exams are tough, but you will actually learn something from him. Great lecturer and his problem sets are really useful. Do a lot of practice tests and follow the advice he gives you for studying. (Always do more exercises than you think you need!) Remember that he wants you to do well in his class, so ask him for help.
I really like Gazzale and his class. Yeah his tests are tough and workload is heavy but I think he is very responsible and I can gain a lot from his lectures. Love him!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gazzale is a great prof provided you follow up everything every day. If you slip even once you're dead. But regardless his tests will be the hardest amongst all your other courses and If ECO101 is a prerequisite for your desired major, I'd suggest you avoid Gazzale.
He teaches economics
great lecturer actually learned stuff from his class but he is a harder prof than others. since eco 100 is now split into two its easier. but dont fall behind if you do it will be hard to catch up
Super tough course and I basically failed but honestly Gazzale is such a great teacher-- he is passionate about economics and the pre-test review sessions are very useful. His weekly open-answer quizzes really reinforce the content learned for that week, and even though I suck at economics, I still appreciate his efforts.
I have to retake ECO101 in the summer but he was hands down one of my favourite professors so far. He really makes class fun and although he is hard, he gives TONS of practice work online and he is great at office hours so I know me not doing well is on me not working hard enough.
They give you practice problems, past tests, and exams for a reason. Doing those along with quizzes made tests and exams much easier.
He is tough but offers many resources. You have to put work in to get a good mark out. It is no where near impossible to succeed in this class but YOU have to hold yourself accountable for studying and keeping up. His lectures are good (even though I sometimes zone out), and they feel like TED talks. He videotapes them and puts them online.
His tests are absolutely hard, but if you keep up with his lectures are the problems he provides for you, it will be possible for you to get a decent grade! Additionally, I can assure you that he is a nice guy, last semester he even sent me a email to tell me that my feat of getting an A in both of the two term tests was noticed by him!
Went from Pesando to Gazzale and the transition was quite smooth. Gaz is a lot more problem-based, which helps for midterms and exams. His lectures tend to get very content-heavy and sometimes hard to absorb, though. It's a little annoying that there are constant quizzes, but it helps you stay up to date with the content.
One of the best lecturers I have had. His class is very manageable, and anyone who says its hard is obviously not working hard enough. He is funny, and keeps his lectures engaging. If you attend lectures there is no need to ever open the textbook.
Great prof. Would take again
Great lecturer and very helpful but way too difficult. Take him if you wanna continue in Econ in specific, otherwise pick another professor.
Tough prof, but a great prof. He makes economics clear and you enjoy his class. He is very smart and cares a lot about his students. Always has time to listen to you. You HAVE to go to class as readings won't do. I really recommend taking him.
He posted all his lectures online, which I found very helpful as I could not attend the lectures in person. He had weekly tutorials and quizzes which were great practice for the tests as well as helped spread out the grading, and all the lecture material was very relevant to the tests.
Best ECO101/102 prof ever!
A good professor
He is a great prof to take for 101/102 as his lectures are amazing and help you understand the topics. The recordings saved my life
Honestly my favorite professor of all time. I got to know him and he is now one of my most helpful connections in terms of longevity. He will give you really good advice on pretty much anything you ask him about, whether it's Economics or not. His classes are tough, but that's mostly because of the grading system at U of T. Keep up though! It helps
Make sure you're ready to work hard. Not a bad prof, but not my favourite. Goes through material quickly during lecture.
A very good professor for a difficult course. Doesn't dumb down what is an intensive introduction to economics. Provides TONS of practice material, which you WILL need to use to get a good grade. Excellent office hours, a really approachable person. Textbook is helpful, but non-essential as all material is repeated in lecture.
Prof. Gazzale is an amazing lecturer but gives very difficult evaluations. ECO101 is definitely not an intro course for someone who has never taken microeconomics.
The tests of ECO102 are really hard. Tough work if you want to get good grades.
Had him for eco101/102. Amazing class and great lectures. Very achievable to get a good mark if you WORK FOR IT. Go to his office hours - ALL OF THEM- even if you dont have questions. He gives a lot of support and practice problems and quizzes to keep you on track. Do all of them and do them over and over.
Professor Gazzale is a solid choice for your first year Economics course. He speaks very clearly, and is helpful with questions. He also cracks the occasional joke. Grades across sections are very similar, since this is a Rotman-required first year class. I would definitely recommend him.
This professor has a reputation to be horrible: he is indeed a tough grader, expects a lot from his students and you will not pass if you think skipping lectures will be fine. I however found him very interesting. You will probably hate his weekly quizzes until you realize if you do them well/ on your own you are going to do great on finals!!
Professor Gazzale is overrated. This course is difficult for the level. I think many students without an Econ or Math background tend to struggle in this course. Gazzale is a really nice guy and generally accessible outside of the classroom but doesn't teach math concepts very effectively.
If you're not at your A-Games from day 1, get ready to bomb this course. Bottomline, you have to work really really hard. He's a tough grader. Don't expect to just memorize a bunch of definitions because you won't pass. You have understanding and know EVERYTHING!! Personally, I hated him. (P.S : I did get a B and I didn't like him at all)
Tip for doing well in his class: rewrite your notes! Don't rely on hastily scrawled annotations on powerpoint slides, Economics is something you need time to digest; focus on understanding the logic, not memorizing stuff. Gazzale is a great lecturer and is always happy to answer questions. His enthusiasm for economics is infectious
Good prof: difficult tests which really require you to grasp concepts. Found him to be very good at teaching concepts, and lecturecasts helped a lot.
Absolutely the best pro Ive ever had in my UofT career. Eventhough you see people post that tests are hard but it is much harder than you think! I am a genius so I got an A+
very efficient and straight-forward with lectures. covers all the important points for the quizzes that he puts up. You MUST keep up with the readings and keep doing practice papers otherwise you're not gonna get a satisfactory grade. if you don't have prior experiences with econ, you CANNOT afford to slack off for this course
The theory behind Economics isn't tough to understand but the way he phrases his true, false, uncertain questions makes it a guarantee that you will get the answers wrong.
Prof. Gazzale is a super amazing lecturer. Yes the test of his lecture will be more difficult than other prof's section. However, his lecture was very straightforward and he explained the concept super clear. It is a challenge to take his course, but worth it. Don't miss any class otherwise you may feel lost in the test.
This class is mostly online. it is fancy w/diff. tech. but, no clear explanation. weekly online quizzes even in tutorials. you are mostly tested even before professor thought in the class. He mostly skips teaching fundamental concepts but teaches more than textbook. There are too many readings. info is so scattered( need +0.5credit to gather info
Go to office hours, hes very helpful if you make the effort to get help. Hes a good person so getting a bad grade in this course makes you want to work harder to do well. Don't fall behind!
Listening to his lectures helps you understand the topic perfectly. His exams are pretty hard.
GOOD. VERY GOOD. AMAZING. WONDERFUL. BEST PROF EVER.
Prof G is an amazing lecturer: funny, engaging and almost always clear. He often delves deeply into the concepts which is interesting and useful, but can at times be distracting. He gives harder tests and exams than other profs, but your grade will be curved up accordingly. He also provides lots of out of lecture resources if you look for them.
Great prof. Really funny and very clear in lectures. You will do great if you attend all lectures. Readings are not that important.
If you want to pass ensure you attend all lectures, participate in tutorials, finish practice questions and understand the fundamentals of what's being taught. The average is always a C+, not necessarily based on class merit but because they grade tough and bell-curve to the desired average.
He's a pretty nice guy even though his tests are unreasonably difficult. I like that he films the lectures so even if I do have to miss them I can catch up later. The course was hard but he does bell curve the tests so as long as you get around the average you'll make the Rotman cut off. The TFU are difficult but you can usually get part marks.
Skip class? You will pass. Bob doesn't really use a textbook and posts lectures online - saving you time and money.
Lectures well and has a nice personality. However, depending on who you are, his tests can be brutal and this course is going to be a huge timesink. You learn some cool stuff, but extremely tedious and difficult course, to the point of being unnecessarily so. If you want to challenge yourself, take this course.
Gazzale is a strong lecturer with an outstanding ability to convey information clearly and present economic concepts intuitively he inspires learning and connects concepts to real-world applications. The posted problems were incredibly useful. If you do the work and go to lecture, this is not a difficult course. Best ECO101/ECO102 Prof by far
Great lecturer cannot stress that enough. Posts all lectures online for you. His class can be a challenge at times though.
There is recording for all of his lectures so you don't even have to go... Just sit back at home at watch the recordings
The tests are very hard, the course is super heavy, and a majority of the class gets a grade within a C range. However, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! They are like mini review sessions he hosts on a white board and he will answer practice exam questions! Lectures are also video recorded so dont worry about attending the actual lecture.
The course is very demanding but the professor is very good and he made me really passionate about behavioural economics. Attendance is quite important and if you do all the required work getting a good grade is very easy!
Don't underestimate macro, even if you did well in micro, the topics are very different. I would 100% recommend going to office hours. I went from a 53% after first test to an 81% overall due to the extra help. He will answer all questions about previous tests, and will sometimes hint at possible questions or rule out certain topics for the test.
A tough but fair grader. Makes good use of class participation (participation in quizzes and mini experiments, basically) to help illustrate the points he's trying to make. Will hopefully not make future classes pay $25 for a glorified message board.
His tests and exams are far more difficult than other profs. Avoid him if you have other choice of section.
The best option for ECO100 courses, if you really want to know the material...
A Nice prof.
my fav prof so far. he's super nice and caring and even got special office hours for your personal stuff rather than the course itself. there's no need for the textbook if you just read through all his slides. as for his test you really need to work hard and 'think like an economist' to get a 70+. overall he's the best prof I've met so far.
Gazzele is a very good prof. A lot of people complain about how difficult the course is but the key is to really take the time to understand the concepts since most of his questions on test will require you to well understand the material instead of pure memorization. His weekly quizzes really help to put in practice what's being taught in class.
Friendly, fair, good lectures, everything you would want out of a professor. Really excellent in office hours, you're missing out if you never go to those.
Gazzale gives amazing lectures and breaks economics down very clearly because he actually cares about you understanding the material. He also has his lectures recorded so you can watch them back to try and understand. Honestly just figure his system (all the homework questions he posts), follow it religiously, and you will do fine after the curve.
Prof G is a great person and a great first year professor, but he could approach his 3rd year courses with a little more clarity and organization. Stats and readings heavy, if you are not a stats person you will fail this course like me!
well gazzie is definitely not the person to go to if u want higher marks. He is GREAT at lecturing and he posted lectures online. But at the same time, his tests are much harder than other profs. I could barely understand the questions on final.
great lecturer . heavy work but it works on grades. tough test but curved a lot. strongly recommend !
He is a nice guy and a good lecturer. Problem is his lectures, homework, and tutorials DO NOT prepare you for his midterm. Beware of his "true, false, uncertain" midterm questions. Good news is if you can get through his midterm, you'll be fine for the exam since it is written by him + other eco profs. Good luck if you have him.
First time I took this class I got 60% and needed a 63% for a Rotman pass, took it again and got 90% lol. He's pretty good at explaining things but his tests are hard. Team up the quizzes and study for them! Team up and try to figure out the correct answers to the MC final, for my summer course he reused MC questions.
ABSURD amount of writing each week. Term assessments that are asking you to write ESSAY-LONG answers, every 2 weeks.
Seems like a very nice person, does not care for the individual student. He doesn't teach you everything that he puts on the quizzes and tests. Despite doing all the readings and practices he has assigned, there is a very good chance that half of the material hasn't been covered on each quiz.
Is an engaging professor but he is terrible for your GPA. He makes lectures fun and engaging but makes fairly simple concepts unnecessarily difficult when it comes to testing. I'd go as far as to say that he can be almost a bit sadistic when composing his tests. For the sake of your GPA, I'd suggest avoiding Prof Gazzale.
His tests are brutal comparing to other Prof, especially during the pandemic when school is running online. Some of the hardest tests that Ive ever took. If you want your GPA, avoid him as possible.
Honestly I have to say, the quizzes are really really really hard!!!!!!!
Prof. Gazzale (from what I could tell online) seems like a nice professor. He seems to care about his students and conveys that very well. I found him to be a good lecturer, with the concepts coming across quite easily. That being said, the weekly quizzes and bi-weekly tests are quite difficult. It is more about application than memorization.
Not recommended. Killed my interest in Economics. His lecture is good organized however he likes to use plenty of examples that does not make much sense instead of talking straight to the point. His quizzes and tests are definitely not easy. I takes me forever to understand what the question is trying to convey. Anyways he seems to be a nice person
I doubt he could pass his own weekly quizzes.
Thanks to Gazzale, now I absolutely HATE economics. If you are someone who have not studied econ in high school, DO NOT take Prof. Gazzale. Choosing him is not a good way to get introduced to econ. His teaching style is very fast paced, his tests are brutal ( expects you to know way more than what he teaches ) and he's a tough grader.
Unfairly difficult tests and assignments. Enjoys overcomplicating simple concepts. Lectures help for weekly quizzes but don't prepare for term assessments at all. Really not, someone, I would've liked to introduce me to economics.
He is extremely funny but strict. Makes the lectures really fun to follow but is not flexible with deadlines at all. His tests are usually harder than the other sections, but you would also probably be more satisfied doing them as they make your education feel worth it. Take him up if you love a challenge and some dad jokes!
Great prof. Explains the confusing concepts really well, super patient with questions too.
I did econ in high school for 3 years, 2 years of HL eco actually, and finished with a level 7. Loved eco thanks to my high school teacher. Took Gazzale eco and now I hate it. Insane expectations for written assessments (gotten better recently), and doesn't cover all the content you need for them in his lectures. Overcomplicates concepts a lot too.
No matter how hard I work and hours I spend studying for his class, I never get where I need to be. This class in an online environment has not been managed well. Emails never get replied to, no contact leaves students confused. Way too difficult. Lectures are informative, but the tests and quizzes do not let me demonstrate my understanding well.
Just gonna say, youre not gonna get good grades even if you memorize every single word he said in lecture videos cuz there are always things that you have never seen before appear on a test.
testing, for the most part, was not based on the lectures and textbook
People seem to love him or hate him. I took 101/102 with him in 2018-19 and thought he was strict but a great lecturer. I enjoyed his sense of humour. Provided lots of extra help for students. Quizzes and tests are HARD for first-year but he curved a lot. Focused on understanding, not just memorizing. Overall he inspired me to do an Econ major.
Lectures are fine, enjoyed them - but did I learn what I need to learn? No idea at all to be honest: his tests are structured completely differently from tests, some of those very clearly involve materials not yet taught in the course. Thank goodness it was a teaching tea, and he went first - other I might never want to talk about econ again.
I enjoyed some of Professor Gazzale's lectures and he taught the microeconomic topics well. However, due to it being online, he changed the way assessments work, rather having a midterm and final, we were given 6 assessments (each worth 10.5%) which was sometimes hard and sometimes reasonable. Will curve you up to keep the average at 63%
ECO101 with Gazzale was a difficult course, but I found his teaching style and explanations to be top-notch. Don't skip over his problemsets, though, lengthy as they are (1.5hrs/wk); his solutions are incredibly detailed and cover content not discussed in lecture. To do well on his admittedly tough tests and quizzes, doing all the HW is a must.
Prof. Gazzales lectures were amazing; not too boring, neither too confusing. The course itself was pretty brutal, but he made it interesting. So I wasnt too happy with the prof switch in the middle of the semester. The written term tests were personally my weak point as they required explanations which were graded with heavy criticism
Lectures are hard to understand
Found the concepts hard personally, but there are plenty who do really well. The online environment wasn't a benefit with the 6 assessments over the semester. Never caught a break. As soon as one was over, it was prep for the next. Gazzale is a great person in general, but you will def need to bust your ass for an A
The class overall was hard and the way the questions were phrased was even more complicated. Professor Gazale definitely needs to look into making his question less complicated and more to the point.
TFU is no joke, practice using past tests you will get an insight into what to expect for the test. Problem sets, quizzes, tests and exams on different levels. Problem sets allows you to understand the concept, quiz is application of problem sets, tests is about quiz material and TFUs. Very knowledgeable prof that is great for intro eco
prof gazzale is a great prof and great person. eco101 is designed to be difficult and i only feel bad when he gets entirely to blame for the impossible-to-do term tests. and well, the term tests aren't actually impossible, they're only impossible if you don't internalize the info being taught
Overall,eco101 was a challengling one(no background in economics). If you're taking it,prepare to study a lot and be patient(it takes forever to get your marks back).Although many people hate Gazzale,I think that he's a great prof(although my mark sucks lol).Yes,you'll struggle with his tricky questions, but you'll deeply understand the concepts
The course sometimes be fine, but sometimes something that can be explained in a few words is gonna take him for twenty minutes, some simple sample will get complicated. And the test, just as other's said, hard like hell. If you get his course enrolled, well, get ready for it, find yourself some online classes, cuz' he won't let your term be easy.
strongly recommended. Tough grader but really helpful. excellent lectures.
Look, Prof Gazzale is a tough grader, has an unclear marking scheme, and is nearly impossible to reach. But that's not saying his class is impossible. Just watch his lectures (his most redeeming feature is his good lectures, actually), and do the practice problems. You'll do fine if you put in the extra work (and ace the final if you can)
The average was always around 63% for tests, but quizzes, tutorial and packback (online discussions) will boost your grade. His lectures were interesting and clear.
Lectures always extremely clear and useful. Test questions extremely difficult at times. You must fully understand the concepts because the tests will really make sure you understand the concepts by pushing their limits at times.
Least accommodating professor I have had regarding COVID-19 this year. He is a good professor; however, its not worth the grey hairs. Huge disconnect between the lecture content and how he grades you on tests and exams; very condescending. However, is helpful in office hours
Do not take this course with this prof at all. He never puts full solutions to past exams & teaches stuff that wont be tested. He gives pretty brutal tests&exams too with 30-40 avg range with no bell curve. Seriously, take ECO105 if you want a better learning experience and fair tests. At least in 105, they don't trick you.. Worst course seen
ECO101 is the hardest course I took in my first year; it's an unexplainable amount of hard work BUT it was still one of the best courses I took. Prof Gazzale's lectures were great. He's hilarious, the material is super interesting, & you genuinely LEARN. Having said that, consistency is key. If you slip, it'll cost you. If you work, it'll pay off.
Great
He was nice and understanding. His lectures were also very good and clear.
SOO inspirational and great lectures, but hard tests definitely. Tip: do all practices he gives and explain the solution to yourself to fully understand
Worst prof ever had. He absolutely brutal. He posted a bunch of material and they were useless and not helpful at all. His test was unfair and much more difficult than any questions we ever seen before. If you dont want him to ruin your GPA intentionally, I suggest you find another prof for this course and avoid him at all costs
In terms of personality, he seems to have none. Lacks empathy in his attempt to be 'fair' to students, doesn't seem to want to help and doesn't answer piazza posts leaving massive threads of concern. If you want to be treated like some rag doll, provided with no help and still fail, this class and this prof is for you
Believe me, choose another prof whose last name started with F. Don't choose this prof unless you learn eco before and got a really good mark on that. One of my friend took AP ECO in his grade 12 and he got only 70 percent on his mid-term. The quizzes are pretty tough. The prof gave you practise problems, but the quizzes are 200% harder than that.
Hard, hard, hard. I cannot emphasise this enough. Gazzale tests are infamous for being the hardest it ever gets. His notorious quizzes will try to confuse you just because he can. Not even rigorous, the course and evaluations are just hard for the sake of being hard. The man is funny and respected for sure, but that can't justify the torture.
GOATED Prof. Made me want to pursue Econ. Content is extremely challenging but if you watch the videos and practise the problem sets, you're set for life. Go to office hours! He'll work out the problems with you (step by step). Has a witty sense of humour and integrates that in lecture vids. If you're a 1st year who's up for the challenge, take it.
Amazing prof, horrendously difficult exams. The midterms and quizzes are infinitely harder than the practice questions put out, and although it is possible to get above 85 in this class, you have to work your butt off. Having said that, one of my favourite professors so far and genuinely enjoyed his lectures!
Terrible prof. Don't recommend this prof at all to incoming 1st Years. His midterms are just brutal and messed up. He just reads slides; doesn't really explain much detail and made mistakes.. waste time teaching stuff that wont be tested. . Being someone who has never saw this material, he made me develop a hate towards it! Worst experience.
Worst experience and worst prof ever had. He leaves his slides blank the entire lecture and talks on and on about vague concepts. Run, students, run. Doesn't care one bit about his students, impossibly confusing lectures. THE EXAMS ARE LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE. Also no transparency on marking. He tries very hard to screw your mark in this course.
To be honest, my GPA without ECO101 is 3.75, but my GPA with ECO101 is only 3.39. Therefore, you will know whether you should take this course.
DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSES. WEEKLY QUIZZES SUCK!!!!!!!!! QUIZZES EAT TIME THAT COULD'VE BEEN SPENT ON OTHER COURSES. QUIZZES DUE ON FRIDAY, NOT EVEN WEEKENDS. TWO MIDTERMS! DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSES.
One word defines everything: Useless
Really funny guy, fun to talk to, but an insanely hard course. I took this course with no econ background - would not recommend. The weird thing is that I would go into examinations pretty confident in the material, but the exam questions don't reflect what we've been taught. You're expected to do a lot of self-learning, which I'm not a fan of.
This course was a lot - per week, 5-6 20 minute lecture videos (covered 7 minutes of actual concepts in 20 minutes), plus practice problems, discussion forum, and 1 hour quiz, with problems that tested extraneous details over concepts. Prof. G is nice... outside of his grading scheme - do attend his one-on-one office hours, as he loves to chat!
Beware: in this course, they do not really teach you economic math well, and they will certainly test heavily on this. The weekly quizzes are over material that Gazzale skims through, and the tests are designed in a way to not actually test what you know but to trip you up on things unrelated to economics.
Unorganized, poor communicator. Bad lecture. And refuses to help... His midterms and final exam are insane, and not related to what anything he provided. He was seen by many others in the exams smiking and laughing when students couldnt attempt any of his questions. You better off sleeping than take his couse. This is completely meaingless
Gazzale is an absolute economics legend. As a total econ rookie, having never taken it in high school, he introduced the topics well, in a meaningful and logical way. The online videos were, as far as videos go, good, but his in-person workshops were always helpful and frequently fun. Tutorials are structured very well, and tests are hard, but fair
A really difficult class, unless you have taken ECO101 courses before. Unless it's a mandatory course, I would suggest not taking it. Extremely difficult term tests, and they determine your final grade. The Prof was actually really nice, but the material was just too challenging.
Dr. Gazzale is great. I never thought I would take economics before, and now I found out I actually liked it. People say his grade is tough, although I have always been an "art" person instead of a "science" person, I don't find it as hard as they say. However, the course does get harder towards the end. Outside of classroom he was also nice.
Pretty good, clearly knew his content and the lectures in my opinion were pretty clear and transparent. In my opinion, he makes the content very interesting. The tests are decently hard and you do really need to know your stuff if you want to do well, more theory based than the weekly quizzes which are computationally based.
Fun class but not easy.
Good teacher, but really hard course. Would not recommend taking it if you don't need it, as you will spend a lot of your time on this.
Professor Gazzale is an awesome professor! He explains all the concepts clearly, and he's humorous in class. He's tests are hard but fair, and he gives a lot of curve (eg. a 11 points curve on the term test) when students don't do well. Not as hard as I thought the course would be.
Prof G. is really a good prof even though his tests are always hard. I like the way he taught and all contents are well organized. The grade I got is over my expectation, and of course, I worked hard for this course.
Absolute legend in teaching. Course is well organized and his lectures are just wonderful and logical. TBH tests are brutally hard but the curves are really juicy. Work hard and you will do well in the course.
Be sure to go to lectures because some of the materials are only given in lectures. Overall, OK professor.
He is really good
ECO101 was hard, but the professor was AMAZING! His lectures are nothing close to dry but filled with humor. I really do love his humor, he is an awesome teacher, although the course is made extremely difficult, as grasping the material was hard but manageable. The course was amazingly organized with LOTS of past test for practice. - From 2021 Fall
I can't stress enough that this should not be a class that you take just randomly. The tests were extremely difficult and the average for the second midterm was around a 45%. Unless you are going into a field related to Economics, do not take this class. I had to drop last second so that my GPA didn't get destroyed. Lectures were funny however.
Professor Gazzale is a fantastic teacher, really great at explaining the concepts in ECO101 and provides us with plenty of resources to practice, practice, practice. ECO101 is a notoriously hard course, but the professor provides you with everything you need to succeed (in my opinion, at least).
Gazzale was by far my favourite professor of the year. He made learning the course enjoyable with his amazing lecture videos and all-around great personality. The course was not easy, but if you understand everything in the lectures (not just memorize, but genuinely understand) you can do great in the course.
He was a great professor and very good at explaining concepts. He also provided a lot of materials to use to study off of, unlike the other econ professors. It is a very hard course, but if you put the work in, you will succeed.
Tough course but really good professor. Explains everything well, and is easily approachable. Funny and not so hardo. Exams are made hard and graded tough so even if you don't achieve a good grade like I did you still feel like you understand the course. Best Prof so far at UofT.
I must admit Robert's lectures are amazing actually, because his teaching ability and knowledge are outstanding among professors. However, his tests and exams are harder than normal introductory courses. If you want to get good grade, you must learn much more beyond his teaching.
Pretty good, everyone who complains about him literally never reads the textbook. Just do that before lecture and you will survive the course.
His lecture was very fun and he was amazingly careful with all grades/exams. I can always find practice materials that i needed. the course was hard but with him and all the TAs it was fine
Tests were very difficult but he curves your mark up so that it reflects how much effort you put into studying. In this way, the marking scheme was fair. Just study a lot. Gazzale is a great prof. Go to his OHs.
The lecture videos on Quercus were easy to follow and the practice questions gave me more than enough practice needed to do good in the class. The in person lectures were not the best because a lot of times it would be hard to hear. Properly watch the videos and go to tutorials.
Great professor! While ECO101 is definitely not an easy course, Professor Gazzale is an amazing person and very accessible outside of class! Still waiting for that ECO101 limited-edition hoodie though...
Professor Gazzale has the sort of energy that makes you excited to learn, despite teaching a hard course. He is by far the best prof that taught this course in my semester. Even though he can "be a bit of a jerk" when it comes to making test questions, he is actually able to explain concepts well enough to be understood with some time and effort!
The lectures were big "workshops" where you solve problems with a few of your peers. They were definitely helpful but moved pretty slow and could have been done better. The work is totally manageable and doing the homework/readings is all the prep you need for the tests. Not nearly as bad/hard as some say.
It was a bit challenging doing eco101 without any prior knowledge in economics. However, the lectures were engaging and the prof was passionate and energetic. Overall, if we didn't have weekly quizzes I would've enjoyed the class more, cause the content is really interesting, but it was constant stress.
ECO101 with Prof. Gazzale was a great experience. His pre-recorded lecture videos were very clear, the weekly quizzes were reflective of those videos, and the TA tutorials are helpful for quiz/exam prep. Be sure to complete the provided past exams for both midterms and final as that is a great way to study. Overall, a very good prof!
He is one of the best profs at UofT
Prof G is an amazing prof and is very caring. He holds entertaining lectures and is good at his job.
Gazzale is a certified beauty. I had him for first semester of university and he did not disappoint. So good at explaining and also extremely charismatic. Take him at all costs.
prof Gazzale is good
great professor, teaching style made for success of the course. prerecorded lectures were nice since you could replay parts you dont understand. grading is nice, they like to see why and how you got to an answer rather than having you simply write an answer. your effort in this course matters. wish i was quicker at understanding econ :/ lovely prof
One of the best profs you will get at UofT. The teaching style isn't for everyone but gave numerous resources to study and was consistent with answers. Lectures were always good, he teaches concepts well and you will never know what you lost after losing him.
Oneof the greatest profs at uoft, but eco101 is notoriously hard course.I would never take it with anyone other than him.He is very caring, funny, and provides a lot of materials and resources to work with. The only problem with him is EDdiscussions because there is no information on expected work and grading criteria.ECO101 is very unrewarding course
i love him
I love love loved his classes. Even though the course is notoriously hard, the prof gives ample resources in the form of recorded lectures, solved and unsolved problem sets, workshop questions etc. The weekly quizzes and packback did seem a bit much during the course but in hindsight studying for it really helped my learning.
Everybody knows Gazzale is a tough marker. He assigns a lot of readings but doing them really helps. Test papers were similar difficulty to the past papers he posts. He's a very good lecturer and explains the concepts in the course very well.
Great lecturer. Always made the class engaging with in-class assignments/group work. He's passionate about teaching and has lots of energy which made class interesting! Many weekly readings and assignments. Tests are not hard if you review all the papers a couple times and pay attention in class. Enjoyable econ course if you are into psychology.
He's definitely a fantastic professor with great enthusiasm for econ. Many senior students rated his course as hard, but if you are hard-working enough, the transformation rate of your input into output is incredibly high. Unlike some professors who are teaching nonsense, his lectures are clear and diligent students can always get good grades.
It's not an easy course, but this guy makes everything fun and everyone loves him!!!! I have to say I did struggle at first but then I practised a lot and succeeded. Lectures are worth attending. Students from Freith borrow lecture videos from us. Fair test.
Professor Gazzale can present complex ideas with clarity, while also engaging the class admirably. ECO101 is a tough course with demanding subject matter; students often let this influence their perception of the professor. If you come to class prepared and do the past exams, you will be fine.
He doesn't teach microeconomics, he teaches what he "thinks" and "believes" it to be. Exams are always based on random questions that are not related to the weekly topic, quizzes, or practice problems. If you don't know the way he thinks, you definitely will not be able to do his tests or get a good grade. Don't bother taking ECO101 with him.
Not a typical intro economics course. The course focuses more on Gazzale's own interpretation of economics rather than general microeconomic knowledge and so on. This means to do well you need to think the way he does on tests, which is difficult. He and UofT also refuses to ever lift the average for the course above a C+, which is completely dumb.
He doesn't actually teach in class. Everything is done BEFORE class (& class is on a Monday...) In the lecture, we do in class graded problems (crowdmark problems) Midterms are crazy difficult. Might be better than the other professor though - take that into account. Ask upperclassmen for who the other prof is to compare.
Gazzale is an incredible professor, truly one of the greats. People complaining about difficult midterms are most likely lazy and not putting in the work, eco101 concepts are so easy to understand as long as you are willing to put in the time that is needed for courses at uoft. As a third year student who already has good study habits, easy course
Great professor, his lecture videos are very well organized and hilarious. People always complain about this course but I actually found it quite doable. All I did was watch prof Gazzale's lecture videos, attend the "workshops" and do the weekly quizzes myself without any outside help. This course requires consistency. Prof Gazzale is the GOAT.
Prof Gazzale did a great job teaching eco101 this semester. He is a very smart guy, and explains things extremely clearly, he has an answer for everything. Gazzale himself is great, thought it is a tough course, the tests are quite difficult and having to watch lectures online beforehand is a bit annoying.
You will do well if you go to class and keep up with lectures. He's super engaging during workshops despite how confusing the material is. However, his tests r pretty tricky, and he tries to throw you for a loop, but as long as you are aware and notice them, you will do well. Also, do practice tests from prior years; it helps SM!!!!!!!
Definetly the best prof out of the 2 options. He has a weird sense of humour but a good prof nonetheless. This class is one of the hardest first year courses and is mandatory for most students, but Gazzale does a good job of introducing students to Microeconomics.
Eco101 is a very difficult first year class. However, Prof Gazzale made it much better. He was engaging and interesting in lectures and he always has an answer for everything. He is funny, thoughtful, and clearly passionate about teaching and economics. If you have to take this class, try to get it with Gazzale.
I believe Prof.G had graduated for so long time so he does not understand why students gets stuck or get confused with. He tried to explain everything artistically bc that's what he had been researched for years, but he forgot his students are mostly freshman just began studying economics, it is hard for me to digest his ideas. However great lecs
An amazing but difficult introduction to microecon. Lectures have work for credit in them, and are essential.
Great prof. Amazing lectures!
these 5.0 reviews are crazy, his lectures are confusing. it feels like a rollercoaster ride
Great prof. A- or even A is entirely attainable with a reasonable amount of effort.
gazzale was a very organized prof that delivered information in an engaging way. this course really depends more on the individual; all lecture videos are online, along with practice tests. students that want to do well should complete these on their own; gazzale will use in class sessions to apply knowledge from the videos on practice problems.
all the low ratings got removed lol. idk how I survived this class honestly!
I like his lecture so much!!! He's a nice person. He is the best professor in UofT.
Very upbeat and fun, ECO101 is a very hard course and requires a lot of effort and organization. His lectures can be messy when it comes to answers but definitely fun and mandatory. He is very well organized and kind as he takes off bad grades and rounds up A LOT. He is making the best out of a very hard course. As a professor he is top notch.
Professor Gazzale was a super funny yet informative lecturer. ECO101 had a flipped classroom, which meant that the course relied on a lot of self-studying, but the textbook readings were not relevant to the exam material. Overall, Gazzale was very caring towards his students and offered lots of help during office hours outside of class time.
Definitely best professor for first year Econ, he made things very interesting, and was very engaging.
I have never hated a course or professor more than gazzale. DO NOT take his class bc he makes everything complicated ESP if you never have taken economics before. I seriously wish on his downfall everyday. This class made me cry so many tears I could flood every coffee shop on Earth so that I can make him feel how I felt during his class. Terrible.
He is a great professor who makes his lectures fun and engaging. 10/10
Amazing professor! Tests are really hard but TAs mark very nicely (lot of benefit of the doubt). Truly a weeder course but what I learnt from this course without a doubt benefitted my work ethic in other courses. Would highly recommend if you want to be challenged and come out the other end an improved student.
Great, entertaining teacher, but the course was beyond difficult. You have to learn a majority of the material on your own time, as he posts the lectures before class. This class made me fight for my life the entire term.
A super tough course for sure, and relies on a lot of self-study, as the lectures are posted before class, and the actual "lectures" are basically just group assignments. Gazzale's actual instruction is really great though! If you are willing to put in a lot of time and work, you can definitely succeed in this course.
Pretty hard class, but the tests are fair. He has a good vibe and is interesting, with a clear passion for his field. I was pretty engaged with the material. It is definitely a hard class, but if you put in effort it is fine.
Great lecturer, very engaging, but his way of explaining concepts were hard to understand for me. The ONLY way to do well in exams, is doing practice papers. Tutorials are pretty important too.
He is an amazing professor! He explains everything clearly even though content is hard to understand. This a very hard course for someone who has not studied economics before (in high school). So make sure to attend every lecture and tutorials!
Wonderful professor who is very engaging during lectures. His system of making pre-class videos and weekly quizzes forces you to systematically work on the course, which is helpful. He grades fairly and requires an understanding of metrical. The class is not difficult and if you have taken some economics in high school it should be relatively easy.
He just gave up on actually teaching and makes you watch about 3+ hours of lecture materials per week. Not including the time it would take you to make notes.
Caring and accessible prof. Tests are hard but fair.
Tough but engaging class. Gazzale's lectures are informative, but require a lot of self-study. Using tools like unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook and tutorials really helped me stay on top of the material.
I don't like this course cuz I feel awful when taking the first mid term. The workshop questions, tut questions, homework and exam, these are four completely different types of questions. When I want to review for my mid term, I found nowhere to find any past exam with answers.
Nice!!!!!!!!!
In my 4th year now and i realise that Gazzale was the worst professor i have ever gotten, he gave me PTSD and i cannot see why he is so highly regarded
Great prof difficult course
His lecture videos make it seem like the course is accessible but it really isn't. Even if you did IB Economics SL or HL and got a 7, be prepared to struggle. Test questions are unnecessarily brain twisting and requires you to remember way too many formulas (he's the math heavy prof in this course). Great guy but his course is just not for me.
Great Prof with great lectures and super accessible outside of lectures.
great prof. did not realize this until my fourth year at university. it was a fair class and taught me how to study
good professor but tough course
The Arizona resting beneath the waters of Pearl Harbor is holding up better than he is these days. Even the ecosystem at Bikini Atoll is in better shape than this class right now.
prof gazzale is a nice prof for sure. js DONT take eco101. it is sm work & i can say for everyone in the course that evb is traumatized from eco101. its very time consuming. lectures aren't lectures - you get workshops instead. and u have to watch sm lecture videos per topic. his tests and overall material r very thinking based.
Prof. Gazzale himself is a good professor, but the class was very difficult. Lectures were prerecorded and posted for you to watch before class, meaning that class time was used to go through examples. However, the examples taught in lecture and tutorial were not reflective of the difficulty of test questions. Overall a very difficult class.
Prof G makes this difficult course somewhat more manageable. While the class itself is demanding, he's genuinely very accommodating and kind, and goes out of his way to help his students personally. He connects with people outside of the lecture material, and wants to be more than just someone there to teach. A great guy despite a hard course.
Love this guy!! He explains concepts really well and you can tell he puts in a lot of effort. Always super kind and funny. The only con is that his tests/exams are much harder than any other prof's and really require a clear understanding of the concepts under many contexts because he loves twisting the concepts around.
Super fun and memorable professor, his behavioural economics course was such a treat to be able to take. He is so engaging and often has us play online games in class to learn about selfishness and altruism and other course concepts. Exams and assignments are very reasonably graded, but be prepared to read a lot of academic papers.
ECO101 is a hellish course for first years but Prof Gazzale is hands down the best one who teaches it. He keeps the class engaged in each lecture/workshop. Everything in the course is very organised and he provides past tests and question banks to practice from which is v useful. That being said it'll take a LOT of work to get a good grade
prof G is awesome 👏
ECO101 might be hard (depends on the person), but that is what a good course in a top university will be like. An extremely fun professor whose humor made the course more easygoing. Prof. G also gave review sessions before each midterm, and his office hours are always open for any questions. Wonderful experience for my first ever uni term!!!
Professor Gazzale is an incredible teacher, ECO101 is designed to be hard but his way of teaching and organizing the course have helped me survive the course. He helped me understand all the concepts and I say that is the important part. There are no easy professors in ECO101, but Prof G rewards anyone who puts in the work.
Professor Gazzale is an awesome professor. At the beginning I must admit the course was difficult for me but if you do what is required and take more time towards studying you can actually pass the class. He is vey kind and hilarious and his classes are easy to follow. I'll definitely recommend his class. Goodluck in ECO101, you'll need it.
He's a funny and passionate guy which makes microeconomics less boring and easier to comprehend, but his tests and content are notoriously hard.
I think he's my 13th reason.
While I definitely let out some chuckles watching his pre-lecture videos, I dreaded having to watch 1.5 hours of content before class. His reverse classroom structure didn't really work for me. He's definitely passionate and experienced though and I eventually got the hang of his infamous devil's work ELVIS (S)TFU questions. Need to put in effort.
Professor Gazzale is the best professor you could have for this course – you'll have to work hard but you'll actually learn things and be prepared for tests if you study. Lectures are recorded and classes are for solving questions, but make sure to watch and take good notes on the lecture videos. Prepares you well for future micro and macro too
are these reviews talking about the same gazzale bro?
Worst professor ever.
I love professor gazzale because he makes ECO101 a bird course. His test questions are super easy and he's assignments are easy to receive good marks. WITH PROF GAZZALE, ECO101 BECOMES A GPA BOOSTER! All of the complaints that Gazzale is hard is all lying. He's actually extremely easygoing and lenient to everything. Especially game theory is easy.
"Master of dominant charistma" He is EXTRAORDINARILY CHARISMATIC. HE IS SUPER DUPER CHARISMATIC AND SCARY. HE IS SO FUNNY AT THE SAME TIME THAT HE'S 2 HOUR LECTURES IS LIKE A SATURDAY NIGHT SHOW. LOOK I NEARLY FAILED THIS COURSE BUT IT WAS BECAUSE I FOCUSED SOLELY ON ROBERT THE GOAT GAZZALE BECAUSE HE WAS TOO CHARISMATIC THAT I ONLY STARED AT HIM.
you could just call him "yo" or "hey" and he loves that. He loves giving up free marks. For instance let's say that you wrote an optional paper about economics that gives u an addiontal 3%. He also loves the Blue Jays. If you just go up to him and say "Go Vladdy" that's another additional 2%. He curves up the final like 10% and midterm by 8%
He is so kind and super nice
WARNING : FINAL EXAM BONUS MARKS AND CURVE UPS AHEAD
Strength : His unmatched unrivaled hostess Weakness : too kind that there's always people trying to sneak into his lecture room who aren't actually enrolled.
IN GAZZALE WE TRUST
THE GOD OF ECONOMICS AND ECO101
TBE the best ever
Easygoing and easygoing
GAZZALE IS TOO EASY THAT LAST YEAR HIS CLASS AVG WAS A 87%
he curves up the final significantly so most of time you will get 63 or higher
For ECO101 it's a lot of online lecture videos that you have to watch before class (to do the Crowdmark).
Prof. Gazzale is truly a gem and is so funny and charismatic! He's very approachable and is super knowledgeable in his field. The workload is a lot, especially for a first year course, but my best advice would be to attend office hours. He runs them super well, and even if you don't have questions you can sit in and listen to the explanations!
He had a good personality, he once said we were twinning because we had the same nail color. However, I wanted to get hit by the streetcar every time I had class. This class took years off my life. My blood pressure was so high I am surprised I didn't have a heart attack. Wouldn't recommend for first years.
