very nice teacher, a little boring zzzz
this class sucks i dropped his class. there are so many easy teachers out there like duasso and logan they are the easiest
he was ok. as long as you do your work, youll be fine. aslo, he completely changes everything you ever learned about writing.
This guy is cool. As long as you do the portfolio assignments, and actually try when writting the essays, you'll get an A. The class is easy as hell, you just need to put forth effort. Beware though he is a little boring.
The Class shouldn't be too tough, just as long as you do all the portfolio assignments, and read the material...however, the class is very boring, and his monotone voice doesn't help the learning environment at all.
he rambles a lot. and i personally didn't like him because he wasn't into my writing style. he takes attendance first few classes only. he talks so much he gets off topic and behind in lectures. i would say take someone else.
Hi! I thought this teacher, although he sounds like the Clear Eyes guy...was pretty cool. I took him during my FIG days. :) I got in a car accident midway through the semester and he was very helpful in calculating my final grade.
Really helpful if you partcipate in class and talk to him he will help you pass. Great teacher
This guy plays favorites so make sure you make a good first impression on him with your first writing assignment... participate in class and get on his good side... even though I did all the portfolio assignments on time and didn't half-ass them, i got a B+... the class is very very boring though, I suggest you take it with an easier teacher
Don't leave the portfolios for the last minute. Man knows alot and is willing to help students in and out of class. He really helped me out alot
ask for help deciding a topic & before you turn in the paper you write like 3 or 4 papers during the term thats 5 or 6 visits. he can smell **** topics and he'll tell you what he wants. turn things in on time act proffessional and you'll be shure to get an A and yes hes got the monotone Mr. Macky feel to him but he's a good teacher.
Its like being in high school again. He's kinda boring but he's a nice guy. The class is kinda slack since he doesnt take attendance very often and cancels classes so you can work on the portfolios. Make sure you do them on time and not wait till the last minute. Do not write your papers in formal tone or how you learned in high school. He has a completely different style. Write about something that grabs his attention (sex is a good one) and write it very informally but make it interesting and funny.
Professor Saba is one of the best professor's I've had at FIU. He's great. I highly recommend him for the ENC classes!
A good teacher, I don't really rate dudes appearances, so I put not.
wow... do not take this class... and if you do, make sure you do the portfoilios as they come, cause when they pile up at the end, it sucks!... and he contradicts himself on things he grades saying one thing is good, and then restaing it differently and saying its bad and lowers your grade... no good... dont take!
This guy expects you to write based on his own belief on things. If he doesn't agree with you (which is most of the time)he will put your writing down. This is the kind of teacher that if you just agree with him and he likes your fist essay you can easily pass with an A but if he doesn't then you are in for a challenge
I wouldnt recomend this class to anyone. The lab was verrry easy but the class itself was not. The class is very boring, and his voice doesnt help. There is no homework other than the project due at the end of the semester. He is pretty easy when he grades the project but the tests are very hard. The material has nothing to do with the book and are
I toook this class in summer a. he was pretty easy. yeah his voice is boring but he has a website that is really helpful and he lists assignments and due dates and updates them very often. he is really good about late work as long as you go to him honestly.
Only grades on his personal opinion. Doesn't care about good writing if the writing doesn't apply to him then he doesn't care. He says "who cares"
Good professor, but he knows his stuff. The schedule is often postponed. Always available for his student!
One of the best professors I have had. He is a straight up guy. If you give him real, honest, from the heart work and don't BS him, you will get an A. He could pick on students a little, but it is funny as hell.
He is nice guy and great professor! His class is not that bad. There isnt a lot of literature reading and not an overwhelming amount of writing. His essays are pretty easy and he tells you what he expects from you. There are 2 major essays, one in class essay and a research paper. His porftfolio assingments are short but the portfolio should be don
This class is sooo BORING!!!! attendence is mandatory, which sucks!! but overall the class is real easy and doesn't require much work, PS- DONT LEAVE YOUR PORFOLIO FOR THE LAST MIN.!!!
he grades funky, he might be a little biasbut if u have a good argument and plenty of detail ur good, the last two assignments, the research paper n add paper r fun. make n effort in the jornal, do it all and make a good presentation even ifhe says u dont need it, makerough drafts and type everything.
this guy is very unclear. he gives a lot of assignments, and they are all boring. and he gives grades off the top of his head.
He's a bit delusional. He starts off every class by telling us how lucky we all are to be FIU students and that we should appreciate it more. After all, since we're paying thousands of dollars, why wouldn't we want to have more work and "holistic" grading.
If you want to improve your writing, take him. Attend peer editing sessions. He will tell you exactly what your essay is missing to get an A. Make sure you choose interesting topics. He won't waste his time reading boring papers past page 1. The lowest grade I recieved on a paper was an A-. He seems a bit scary at first, but definitely is not!
hes allriiight
Good Professor. A lot of the classes are peer review sessions...and he splits the class in half. So alot of days off. If you want to be a better writer, take him. Paper topics aren't too bad. Portfolio is a huge portion of your final grade...so do not leave it all for the day before. Overall, good class.
Really good class because he taught in relation to business writing.
He might be a bit boring and he kind of speaks in monotone but he is a really nice guy and he is extremely helpful, he gives work regularly but it tends to be really easy. Personally he's always been willing to help me a few minutes after class even when he knows I've been sleeping or on facebook through most of it. He's really nice...Take him
The class is really easy! you got this whole portfolio thing on turnitin.com. basically busy work which involves drafts for your essays, peer reviews and minimal usage of the book to answer some questions. Easy but time consuming. 4 essays, one turned in at turnitin.com. Really monotone voice but ull live. I think ima end with an A. we'll c
he studders a lot but grades pretty easy
He is extremely BORING!! I recommend you to bring your laptop with you and work on homework while he goes on and on talking about your next essay assignment. Classes are helpful in the sense that they give you an idea on how to write the essay, what to write it about. He also dedicates some time to edit essays as a class and is really helpful
Easy class, just do porfolio assignments on time and write a decent essay (doesn't have to be great) and u'll get a good grade... BORING TEACHER tho
His class is easy. explains exactly what he wants. do it! u can miss 3 classes. no more. definetly one of the few classes i actually learned something in. half is class is busy work (online portfolio) (45 % of grade) he will bore u though. his monotone voice will make u wish u stayed in bed.
Super easy class but the professor is VERY boring. Go to class because he takes attendance, do all the online work and you'll be fine.
Saba is to the point and straight up. Awesome professor. Has strong opinions though and can be biased when grading. Take it only if you're disciplined enough to keep up with all the online work. It might seem dumb but its a big part of the grade.
Saba knows how to teach English. He will help you form a very constructive essay, and provides points so you know exactly what he wants on each paper. A lot of TurnItIn work that collectively counts for 50% of the class. Though his monotone could make the class boring sometimes, it's worth taking it with him. Easy A.
Makes you read a lot but gives great feedback and lets you submit revised versions at end of semester. I took him in the summer, strongly reccomend it...but he does say that his regular 16 week classes are required to read novels which can be a drag..but overall great teacher!!Aced his class!
i took the summer class, which had a lot of reading(songs, poems, and short stories) the writing is a killer, at least 3 times a week a written asgmnt was due, all of them based on reading, but as long as u read they are a piece of cake, for the essays just follow his guide line and u'll do fine. i recommend his summer class, easy. grade: A :]
Going to class is a waste of time, but you still need to do it because he bases part of your grade on it. He rambles A LOT. But overall, a good teacher, ready to help when needed. There are a lot of assignments, but they aren't terribly hard.
His class is like one big chat with you on what he expects you to write about in your next essay. He doesn't really teach you. You ask him a question and he probably won't give you a straight-forward answer. Sweet guy but boring. Do the portfolio assignments and write good essays(don't have to spectacular) and you'll be fine.

He is nice. I got an A. You should take him. And oh yes, he looks like Mr.Mackey from South Park.
I took him for advanced writing, not 1102. Saba is an awesome dude. He can ramble a bit, but overall he is really passionate and EXTREMELY approachable. The assignments are consistent but easy, and he chooses an interesting and diverse mix of reading for you to write about.
Awesome!! Long live Saba!!
I took him for both 1101 and 1102. He is suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper boring BUT once you get the hang of his class, it's easy. The online portfolios are the heart of your grade, the essays are also important but if you miss a couple portfolios you will fail. He is very open-minded and liberal, you can basically choose your essay topic. But he IS boring.
He is kind of boring at first but you learn to adjust just try no to fall asleep he has a monotone voice but his class is super easy and so are his assignments
Very Disrespectful. Tells you to rights essays and then AFTER you right it he tells you that it is boring to him. Unless your essays are about golf, he doesnt want to read them. Bends rules for some and not others who deserve it.RUDE and monotoned. I have to retake the class because he is very unfair when grading essay. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!!
okk this guy is super boring and completely gets off topic about everything. i dont like the way he teaches at all and not to mention he thinks his class is super important when we spend half of it or more talking about irrelevant subjects to english! i do not recommend him.
He is a cute old man, really nice. He does spend an necessary amount of time talking and going off on tangents so the class goes by quickly. Its easy to pass his class as long as you keep up with online portfolio assignments and you can handle his monotone voice.
The class is boring and there is a writing assignment almost every other day. The class is not hard if you can keep up with the online portfolio. He is a nice guy, and will help if you ask.
He gives a lot of homework, you have to keep up with daily portfolio assignments which are inconvenient if your taking other hard classes. He can be rude. But if your willing to keep up with all the work and handle his opinions, then take him.
Awesome professor! Lots of homework but it's not hard at all. He cancels classes to do group conferences and gives amazing criticism during them.
THE BEST TEACHER!!!! Very nice and helpful!!!!
He expect a high level of writing ability. If your looking for an easy ENC 1102 class I would recommend you find someone else
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS! he is terrible, he is rude, puts you on the spot, excepts you to write to his liking. there is homework due everyday on turnitin.com his class is super boring, he rambles about pointless things
He is a very nice guy even though class is boring almost all the time. He is a bit of a hard grader but it is very doable. The whole class is the process of writing a 10 page report, but since thats all you do all semester it is not hard to do. If what you want is to learn, you should definitely take him! because he actually teaches
I highly recommend this professor! The class consists of two papers and an oral presentation, which are completely doable. He's very nice and will give you help when needed. The only downside the the portfolio- the assignments are easy but it needs to be kept up with.
I suggest not taking ENC 1102 with this professor. Personality he was very rude to me and when I would ask him to explains something he would find a why to "lecture" me about the question I was asking. If he does not like you, which happened with me, he will not help you and will grade how he feels.
I passed the class, but one thing I never understood was the fact that he had us write the 3 main papers in parts and would give me A's on every section of my essay then when I turned in the final paper he would give me a C and comment something like "the intro doesn't make sense" or "your topic seems over-exaggerated" WHY NOT TELL ME THAT BEFORE?!
Everyone complained that he was really rude to them, but personally he was always nice. The only real problem I had was that no matter how hard I worked, it always seemed like he LOOKED to deduct points. In the ETERNAL portfolio assignments, which I did all off, he did not give me the full points and instead graded things like 94.3 instead of 95
1 exploratory essay, 1 public writing, 1 oral presentation, and the final research paper. All on one topic so pick one you like. Aside from that, almost daily homework. It sometimes helps you not procrastinate on the essays, though. Overall helpful, just changes his opinions on your work after you submit it. TAKE HIM IF YOU DONT MIND WORK
This class is so exhausting! there is homework every single day on turnitin like we don't have other classes and assignments to do! I don't understand why there are so many great reviews I mean I don't expect to have no work at all but papers do every single day is a bit unrealistic. I'd take another professor to be honest
Ridiculous class, homework every single day and he is extremely rude when giving feedback on projects but never replies to emails if you have questions about something. If you're taking other classes and have a life don't take him
I see a lot of bad reviews for Robert Saba and I wonder why he gets these. He isn't a 10/10 teacher but he definitely teaches well and gives excellent feedback. The lectures are a little boring but they definitely teach you. If you pay the class the attention it deserves he'll like you. If you don't expect him to not like you.
he is easily the best teacher i have ever had in college. the guy is super helpful and really cares about teaching u the material. the essays are kinda hard but if you ask for help and put effort u will get an A for sure. i took him twice and got an A both times. i high recommend his class. just make sure not to skip class.
Great teacher, took him for two back to back semesters. I ecommend doing the hw in one sitting with no editing besides your basic spellcheck. He just wants you to write for practice, theres no need to take hw too seriously (just do it) or you'll fall behind in other classes. Focus your energy mostly on the three major papers.
This man is honestly the worst professor I've ever had in my experience, get used to reading from the book because it's equally just as boring and monotoned as him. The work-load was way too high for an ENC1101 class and he goes on and on rambling about random things in life that seem to be intertwined with the actual class itself. DO NOT TAKE!!!
I think Robert Saba was an excellent teacher, and honestly I didn't even pass his class. He does give a lot of work, so expect to be on your A game at all times and does give a lot of lectures. He is open to listening to your opinions and gives good feedback; I didn't pass because I didn't feel very motivated in his class so I rarely did any work.
Honestly one of the best teachers at FIU. I took him for both ENC1101 and ENC1102. There is a lot of homework, almost everyday, but its really easy. He just wants you to practice writing. You'll definitely notice an improvement in your writing skills after taking his class.
Regardless of all the homework he gives (something due almost everyday) and how he is a really tough grader, he really cares about your writing development and gives really really great feedback. His lectures can get boring though. You don't HAVE to get the textbook but I recommend it, it gives good writing tips.
He is a writer thus he has a lot of knowledge but gives way too much homework. if you have a lab, dont take enc 1101 with him. i had his class for this fall and he gives 3 portfolio assignments per week which are not that easy.
Professor Saba is a sweet guy that talks a lot. There are at LEAST two assignments on a weekly basis. He can be very understanding and he is willing to work with you once you are willing to put in the work!
Do not let the amount of homework deter you from this professor. Professor Saba really cares about the material and his students. One of the few professors I felt I had a good relationship with. As long as you provide something interesting for the projects, his grading isn't too bad. I got an A the first time I took him and a B+ the second.
As long as you do the homework, there is zero chance of you failing. Pretty easy class.
If you really want to learn how to write this is your guy. Although he gives a lot of hw, it helps with your grade and he gives very good feedback on your papers. Very accessible outside of class and a nice guy
Took him Spring '18 for ENC 1102. His class really helped me become a better writer, and gave us a good opportunity to become knowledgable on a topic of our choice. He is very accessible, easy to talk to, and actually cares. Would definitely recommend.
He gives way too much homework but he's accessible outside of class and he gives good criticism on your papers.
Good class, but he could be more open minded and try To understand different points of view.
My favorite professor of the semester. He gives homework every other day, but it's only a page long, and if you do it, you're guaranteed to get an "A". There are 3 big assignments of the semester which you can easily get an "A" on since he gives feedback on everything and explains the assignments.
Gives about a week to read assigned personal essay (but if you don't, it's ok), then we discuss them in class and answer questions in groups. Homework 1-2 page reflections on essays. Sometimes, 1-2 pages of your own personal non-fiction on related topic. 2 projects your own personal essay (I like writing stories, so worked out for me).
He notices the students efforts towards the class and will work with you if you try. Sometimes he can be a tough grader but talk to him about it!! It's better to go to the lectures since he explains almost everything in person.
This class wasnt hard to pass but extremely annoying. Try to get another professor because there is an unnecessary amount of homework
He was a nice professor but the amount of homework was way too much. Not only that some assignments were extremely repetitive. 2-3 assignments per week. He gives really good feedback on the assignments but I wish he would take into account some other perspectives. If writing isnt your best subject or you do not like it then do not take this prof.
Very easy, no late work, no extra credit. Only 2 essays and the rest of the assignments were 100-200 word responses. Assignments are actually interesting and not boring. I recommend taking him as a professor.
