Very awesome professor! I love how he gives up quiz/exam hints during lectures. When I took peds, there were no PAL tutor for peds so he had a virtual review session online to review for the quiz. He drops questions on the quizzes when too many people get that one question wrong. Highly recommend!
Initially, his exams are tough, he gives a lot of tough love. He cares for his students and actively advocates for your rights. He's well organized, but his lectures are monotone. I suggest reading the textbook because it helped with the proctored and his final. He's like an Arizona Robbins (from grey's). I would honestly retake his class.
The previous "good" ratings were most likely written by Geisler himself. There is no way anyone would take his class again. I regret taking him along with the 20 other students in my class. His questions had nothing to do with how we studied, and his powerpoint were a waste of time. also, he chooses which classes to give points to, not fair.
Professor Giesler is truly a gem. Initially, I had heard he was a difficult professor, and I cannot emphasize in how true that was haha, but my goodness I learned so much. He cares about his students. Go to office hours!!! They SAVED me. I can attest that my peers and I love how much he cares out our education and about us. Awesome professor!
The first 3 quizzes are harddd. Go to his review sessions they are superr helpful and participate in lectures. He will give extra points. His lectures are boring and all his quiz questions are from the book. Questions are phrased strangely, but he is there to help. Not an easy A.
This professor is amazing. He isnt an easy A, you have to work for it! However, he is always willing to help and give his time to ensure struggling students can succeed. He is devoted to his students and is passionate about what he does. I dont understand any negativity toward him. He is a special professor and I am so happy I took his class
i was weary about this professor due to the lack of reviews but now that this term is coming to an end, I can truly say how amazing this professor is. I don't leave reviews on here but i felt he deserved one. Professor geisler is truly caring for his students and is not as difficult as he offers help and is accessible. He prepares you well promise.
This professor PURPOSELY creates his quizzes in a way to trick and confuse you. He will give you a study guide and then ask questions related to the topics but that have nothing to do with what he supplied. He is caring and understanding, but intentionally makes it hard for you to pass the quizzes. I do not feel like I learned anything.
Amazing professor, I would take his class again in a heartbeat. He wants to see you succeed and will give you all the tools you need to do so. He gives words of encouragement and he will help you if you are struggling. His class is not hard and he does not try to trick you with his test questions, take him I promise you won't regret it!
Professor Giesler is amazing! If I could take him again I would in a heartbeat! He makes you read but that will make you a great nurse! Go to his TUTORING & participate in his lectures. He was amazing!
Professor Geisler is a real gem and is truly there for his students. Attending his tutoring sessions was the best thing I could have done. I needed to deo well on he final to pass the class and the professor and my fellow classmates were there for me when I needed it. Such a great experience with a great professor.
Don't take. Questions are super long and confusing. ATI protored was way easier compared to his finals. Just glad it's over
Don't do it..... Tests are so hard and he makes the confusing on purpose. Laughs and is condescending when we do poorly on his quizzes. Yes, most of his class regularly fails his quizzes.
He is a great instructor and he really wants his students to learn.
I would take Dyer if you can, the students in her class seemed much less stressed. If you end up with Professor Giesler, make sure to get the text book right away. His quizzes are based off the textbook but his lectures are based off something else, so values and other things may not match up. He credits your hard studying to his 'good' teaching.
Try to avoid. He doesnt care if you pass or fail. His test questions are long and confusing. His lectures have nothing to do with the tests. I got an A on the proctored that I studied for myself but barely passed his final. And he asks you to leave him a good review and says he "doesnt know why" he gets bad reviews
By far one of the worst if not the worst professor I've ever had. Is an insult to actually teachers calling this person a teacher. Your book does all the work, memorize, reread the book and read again because this "teacher" is useless. Demeans his students and takes egotistical pride in his logic.
In my one-on-one with the professor, he practically said that students who do well don't leave good reviews, the ones who struggle and do poorly leave bad reviews. He's absolutely hard no doubt, but think about it; the people complaining, would you want these people as "nurses" if they didn't know the material? Looking at the comments, I wouldn't.
Someone said the people who leave bad reviews did poorly/failed his class. I would disagree. I ended with a B+ and worked hard for that but no thanks to the professor.
I loved Professor Giesler. He was very helpful for me in this course. I struggled the entire course but he managed to help me every step of the way. We reviewed the questions I got right and wrong on my quiz. I continued to do horrible in medication math, but Professor Giesler provided a better, simpler understanding. His humor kept me interested i
I believe Dr. Giesler is misunderstood. While he may come off as harsh at times, he genuinely tries to help his students succeed. If you are in his class, just know he is book heavy and you will likely have to study more than other classes. Regardless, you will learn a lot and he is a valuable resource if you're looking into PEDS or ICU nursing.
Professor Giesler is good in his own way. You cannot survive without the textbook and you need to work harder than other classes. With that being said, he makes you get up on your toes and it gets overwhelming because of the workload combined. He gives great study highlights for his quizzes and exams, you just need to spend more time on it.
Read before and after. Attend tutoring and read again. Great professor
I really just want to say I had a really good experience with Dr. Giesler. He's funny, helpful very encouraging. He really wants everyone to do well and it shows. You have to read and study and be present for lecture of course. I feel his quizzes and exam are fair and reflect lecture. Do the reading and study and you will learn alot and do well
If you want to pass his class you NEED TO READ THE TEXTBOOK! He makes his own test questions and they are word for word from the textbook. If you do not read, YOU WILL NOT PASS! It is hard to pay attention when he lectures because he won't put a powerpoint on the screen. You have to follow along yourself. Reading the book is the key to an A+ here.
I dont understand at all where these bad reviews came from. Professor Giesler is truly a great professor and he really cares for his students!! Study hard and read the book, you will be fine!!
Prof. Giesler is one of a few prof. in campus encourage you to push your limit to success, follow instruction as written, take advantage of 1 to 1 session and read the book and you will do great.
Professor Giesler challenged me and many other students in a great way! he truly cares for your success. Make sure to read the textbook!!! he will sometimes pull random questions in the quiz straight from the book so make sure you understand the concepts in the lecture! Overall, great professor, his quizzes are fair!
Dr. G is the best! He's funny, his PowerPoints are easy to follow along, and he wants to see his students succeed! Pharm is not an easy subject and you definitely need to study and put the work in, but it's definitely doable to get an A in his class, and Dr. G will help you if you're struggling. Can't wait to take him for Peds! Take him if you can!
He is the best professor, very helpful, caring and fair. He is all about his students. I just studied the book for his class and it was enough.
I heard a lot of bad things about Dr. Giesler. However, after having him, I can say he is an excellent professor. Definitely a challenging class, but it's doable as long as you apply yourself. He is book heavy and you have to read. I think most people want to be spoon-fed and that is why they are unhappy with him but he is fair.
Professor Giesler is awesome. His lectures are very funny and engaging. He makes learning pharm easy. I highly suggest taking this professor. You will learn alot. Everything he lectures about is on his quizzes. He is very straightforward. Read the books and study and you will pass his class.
This professor has been the best one that I have had at WCU so far. He is very understanding and is clear on what he expects from the class. If you are willing to put time and effort into the class you will pass with no issues. He really cares about his students. I will be taking him for PEDS as well!!
Professor Giesler is great! I read some bad reviews before taking him, but he is by far one of the best professors I have encountered at West Coast so far. I look forward to taking him again for PEDS. I appreciate how caring he is about his students' success. Don't be nervous by bad reviews he is a great professor.
His powerpoints are helpful since he gives emphasis on things that may be included in the quizzes and tests and he gives a study guide which can be overwhelming but very helpful. He kept great energy in the class. We felt comfortable joking around with him but there was still discipline in the class. I will definitely be taking him again for Peds.
Dr. Giesler is an amazing Pharmacology professor! I learned so much from him. He really cares about his students and wants you to succeed. I am looking forward to taking him for Peds.
After the first exam, I knew this wasn't going to be a good semester. He is extremely tough at grading. You'll never understand what you did wrong on exams. When you ask, he is very rude about it. Overall, he is incredibly rude and extremely unhelpful. To me, it seemed like he wanted to fail as many students as possible.
Dr. G can be intimidating at first, but give him a chance and you won't regret it. Pediatric nursing is his passion, so if you have ANY questions, reach out to him and ask for help! You must work for your grade and put in the time to study. Also, utilize his office hours (1:1)! YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK AND ASSIGNED CHAPTERS OR YOU WILL NOT PASS.
Dr. Giesler is a caring professor that will challenge you throughout peds but is also very understanding. Attend his 1:1 for better clarification on his exams! He is honestly an amazing, unique professor who cares so much about his students. Not an easy A!! But completely doable but YOU MUST DO THE ASSIGNED READINGS! THERE IS NO WAY AROUND IT! :)
Professor Giesler is a great and understanding professor. When you attend his first class, he definitely comes off intimidating and tries to scare you off, but he's actually really nice and listens to his students. He is very passionate about nursing and truly wants you to succeed. Tips: He is textbook heavy, so you definitely have to read the book
Doc G is solid. Can be intimidating at first but actually cares about his students, A LOT more than most professors. Actually takes time to set his students up for success and ensure they're understanding the material. Will be stressful but you will pass and come out with confidence in pharm.
Amazing. Difficult (very difficult) don't get me wrong. You're basically going to marry the textbook in his class but he's probably one of the best professors I've ever had in my entire WCU career. The key is to attend his reviews with questions about the lecture and he will help. Study hard - an A is very achievable. You'll learn so much!
An amazing professor! Easy? Not so much, but completely doable. You will learn your material. He truly cares about his students success and is very helpful. Attend his 1 on 1s. Take good notes, put the time in and you'll be fine. One of my favorite professors at WCU. Thanks Dr. G!
His lectures weren't helpful for quizzes. You HAVE to read the book for this class. This class requires a lot of time for studying if you want to pass with a good grade. Sometimes he curves and understands its a tough subject, but I simply would not recommend this professor to anyone.
Avoid at all cost, very condescending. You ask for clear instructions and he'll tell you just memorize everything. Lectures have barely anything to do with the exams, test are word for word from the book so read everything 100x. Doesn't use ATI so you'll be at a loss for proctored. tutoring's can be helpful so try and go to them
He says the class is textbook heavy & emphasize wanting students to read the textbook. However, its possible to get by by reading through his slides and skimming the book. I wouldnt say this class is easy but it isnt hard either. He cares about us & hes got stories to tell! I was nervous coming in bc of bad reviews but im glad i took his class.
Honestly after seeing all the reviews, I was a little nervous and he told us on the first day, his class is hard, but at the same time I felt so supported by him and he pushed us to do our best. He is available outside of class, but his quizzes can be hard, but it is doable. He is very supportive and helpful, one of my favorite professors!
Second time taking Doc G. He may be intimidating at first, but is seriously someone who cares about his students. The class is difficult, but he definitely helps if you seek it. Reading the text, PALS tutoring, and 1:1 tutoring are the keys to success here. Show up to class, participate, run some jokes, and enjoy.
At first, I was afraid to be in this class as I heard he's one of the hardest professors to have, but he's been very supportive and offered one-on-one tutoring to explain any topics I had questions on. If you do your readings and utilize your resources, you'll be fine in this class. Good of luck!
He may seem scary at first but he's actually really nice. His test can be tricky but he tends to focus a lot on the charts in the textbook. If you don't want to attend one on one tutoring Pals will be your second biggest help. He is willing to make time for you as long as you reach out. He might take attendance more than once sometimes.
At first, I was intimidated since I've heard PEDS is a difficult course. However, Professor Giesler passionately teaches the subject and truly wanted the best for his students. He has office hours and is always open to helping his students succeed. To do well in his class: make sure to read, listen carefully, and participate! Amazing professor!
He is not a good professor. He walks in reads 20 pages of a 195 page powerpoint back to you and then proceeds to give you questions that the the powerpoint and book never go over. He tries to trick you on his test and is inconsistent as well. Even says "I gotcha" as if he derives some pleasure from people failing. He does not deserve to teach.
Idk what everyone is saying here but this guys is the worst. He will give you a vague "list" of topics to study where half won't show up on the test and then asks stuff about the other half of the list that is literally never talked about anywhere. get ready to read hundreds of pages in 6 days with nothing but a vague list of topics to guide you.
He does not teach at all. Be
Honestly, I thought he would be okay, but indeed, I've never seen so many students fail a class before the 5th week. His quiz questions are very confusing, and he does not care about his students failing at all. I don't think he should teach this class at all
It's so upsetting and unfair to see many amazing students drop the class because of him. He has an expectation of students doing good, but doesn't do anything to help them succeed. He will test you on things that he never mentioned. You have to teach yourself the content and pray every exam.
Avoid taking his class at all costs. It's week 6 now, and the majority of people I've spoken to are either failing or are close to failing. His tests are extremely confusing, and none of the material he talks about in class appears on the exams. He isn't ATI-based, and he admitted to using AI software to write his test questions.
I am not sure what had happened throughout the months but the reviews of him before October seem to be outdated. He has changed completely. I don't see where he is caring about his students anymore. His exams don't make any sense considering he uses AI to create his exams. I have never seen so many students failing. He also seems proud of it
He likes to talk big and is extremely condescending to the class but in reality he does not know what he is doing. He expects you take make wild assumptions on the test with no info or he tries to trick you. Basically forget everything you've learned in the past everything he asks contradicts everything we've been taught as nurses.
I came here to write a review about him but I see my classmates got here before me. What everyone is saying is true. He does not teach, his tests are barely related to the book. He talks down to the class and is very hostile when you ask questions. Pretty sure he has some prejudice towards guys. He's always rude to them in class but never to girls
I accidently gave him a good rating and this is to counter that. Do not take him he is the the absolute worst. He does not deserve to be a teacher. His lectures are a waste of time and he says the test are based off the book but they are not. You're better off skipping the entire semester than taking his class. He will take your sanity. Don't do it
This is easily the worst professor in all of WCU. He actively tries to make people fail and is very rude even when the only one not doing their job is him. If everyone in a whole class is failing your tests then they are not the problem, the prof is, and he fails to grasp that concept. He chooses to blame his students instead of doing his job. L.
I would advise all students not to take his class. I'm really surprised when students say that he is nice because I don't see that at all. He's not a professor who wants to see his students succeed but enjoys it when they fail. Too many people are failing or on the verge of and he does not seem to care at all about it
Peds is hard! No matter who you take. Prof G. does his best but even he said "you need more than 3 hours for this class." The content is very heavy. Attend his 1:1, Do NAS, PALs, READ the book! He cares about the students that participate and are respectful. You must read the BOOK!If you need help just ask nicely.Goodluck prepare to have no life :)
This guy does literally nothing. He doesn't prep you for his tests, he doesn't prep you for the proctor, he doesn't prep you for the NCLEX and he doesn't prep you to be a nurse. All he does is sit there and read the book back to you like the class is illiterate. He said himself he doesn't teach for "content mastery" whatever that means. Horrible.
PEDS is already a heavy class and instead of doing what he can to help his students he misleads them and tries to trick them. Reading the book doesn't matter when he gives questions that have multiple interpretations. The book doesn't teach how to think like him and thats what he wants, which is is impossible as we are literally DIFFERENT PEOPLE.
This man, if you can even call him that. Is the epitome of bad professors. He does not teach and gives tests that literally expect us to know information we don't have access to. He is completely unfair and his "help" is him just misguiding you. You spend so much time studying only to see questions that are completely foreign to the class.
I have never hated a person more in my entire life. This person literally does nothing but talks down to everybody. PEDS is a 2 unit class. He knows we don't have much time for lecture. Does he make an informative lecture that teaches the material he thinks is important? No he doesn't. He sits and reads 15pgs of a 200pg pwrpnt as if we cant read.
He does nothing but torment his students for 2 months. His powerpoint is literally a table of contents for the book and his lecture is him reading the book back to you. His tests however, are not based off the book but off some arbitrary train of thought you're supposed to somehow know even though it's never mentioned anywhere. Just stay away.
He is completely evil and pretends that he teaches but all he does is sit in the front of class reading the book. He is very rude and talks down to the whole class when they are struggling. He gives you false information to mislead you and waste more time. When you ask for help he ignores you. He sees people failing and you'll catch a smile on him.
Never try again
I am currently in Dr. Gieslers class and I am not too sure why there are so many negative reviews. Personally, I believe he is a great professor and VERY resourceful. He is very easy to reach, have MULTIPLE hours available for 1:1 tutoring/exam review to go over past quizzes. You just have to read which should not be a problem in nursing school.
He plays favorites and helps out the ones he likes. Clearly the one good review is someone he favors. If he doesn't provide an objective teaching to everyone in his class and instead helps out a few people. That makes him a horrible Prof. Obv your going to have bias because HE'S HELPING YOU. I tried going 1:1 but he ignored me and many others.
He doesn't know how to teach and hes aware of it. He gives the morning and afternoon class the exact same test fully well knowing the afternoon class will get answers from the morning class. He allows it to occur to protect himself. If one class does good and one bad it looks like the students fault, but if both classes do bad hell be at fault.
Other than the few students he likes and helps out he does not care about the success of his students. I tried talking to him after class, messaging him to set up a 1:1, but he just ignores me. Meanwhile there are people he just straight up tells them what to study. Idk if you can that favoritism but it's definitely not fair and not right.
He constantly talks down to the class as if we are the problem. He expects you to make wild assumptions we wouldn't make unless you are literally him with his experience and his knowledge. Forget everything you learned in the last year cus you wont need it in his class. Least invasive? no way, the answer is something that was never talked about.
I'm currently in Professor Giesler's class, and I don't understand the negative comments about him. His lectures are clear, he's approachable, and genuinely wants students to succeed. If you're failing, it's likely due to lack of effort or not reading the textbook, which he directly uses for tests. I'm grateful with all the support he provides.
Giesler is an outstanding Professor, and it's clear that he likes teaching. His enthusiasm is contagious, and you can tell that he loves what he teaches. I think it's important to recognize that success in his class requires effort and dedication. He offers all the resources needed to succeed, and if you put in the work, you'll do well.
Professor Giesler is one of the few at WCU who truly teaches. He explains the material clearly, not just reading slides, and genuinely cares about student success. As for the few negative reviews—it's obvious they come from someone who didn't put in the work and is now bitter about the outcome. One bad experience doesn't define a great professor.
I don't quite understand the negativity directed toward Professor Giesler. In my experience, he was consistently kind, respectful, and had a great sense of humor. He often shared insightful examples from his personal experience that directly connected to the course material. In my opinion, Professor Giesler is one of the best instructors at WCU.
He was tough. His technique for quizzing was different than any previous instructor. Heavy on interventions because "that's what nurses do." Expects a lot from his students but it's beneficial because you learn so much. If you are struggling, reach out, he is very helpful. Don't ask about stuff already mentioned.. he doesn't like to repeat himself.
TAKE HIM DO NOT LISTEN TO THE RATING HES THE BEST PROFESSOR IVE HAD SO FAR
THIS HORRIBLE EXCUSE FOR A MAN. He is literally the most disrespectful, cold-hearted, insufferable, uneducated, and unprofessional man ever. Is he even qualified to be an instructor? HE WILL NOT HELP YOU PASS AND HE BLAMES THE STUDENTS WHEN THE WHOLE CLASS FAILS. He has his favorites and will retaliate against you. RUN DONT WALK.
If you are not religious, pick one and start praying.
I never wore a seatbelt on my way to class, hoping I would not make it, rather than go sit there and look at his evil face while he insults his students. I hope this administration checks his digital record because I have never been met with such disrespect from a text on remind. Run. This man came straight from the deepest darkest pit of hell.
All I have to say is this class will make you want to admit yourself into a mental institution. This instructor is the reason I am on antidepressants and recently had an overdose.
I get where people come from when it comes to him, but I've noticed that when u ask for help he helps & guides you. I understand that a lot of people struggle on his tests, especially bc he has so many slides & it's hard to focus on so much at once, but he does really want to see his students succeed and will help u if u ask. Attend office hours!
He saved my term from the other pharm profs bc our OG instructor got let go week 1. Slide heavy and tbh prob doesnt need to be, but he teaches and if you study and know your meds you will pass. Pharm is all ab if you know your stuff or not so you need to put in the work & that is on u not him. Hes sarcastic sure but not evil? Def want him for peds
